IB DP French B Home Tutor in Dubai

Most pages selling an IB DP French B home tutor in Dubai will not tell you a price. This one does. Dubai has a large francophone population, so French speakers who will teach are plentiful and cheap; tutors who can mark a French B Paper 1 against language, message and conceptual understanding are neither. That gap is the whole story of what you pay, and the tables below set out the AED bands, their sources, and what actually moves the number for a Dubai family.

  • AED bands published with the source and the month attached

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The price of French B in Dubai is a supply story

Dubai is an unusual market for French tuition because the supply curve has two humps. The city holds a substantial francophone population, several French-curriculum schools and a steady flow of French, Lebanese, Maghrebi, Belgian, Swiss, Canadian and West African families. Native speakers who will teach are therefore easy to find and comparatively inexpensive. Tutors who have taught or marked the current IB French B assessment are a much smaller group, and the price difference between the two is wider in French than in almost any other Group 2 subject here.

That gap is what families are actually choosing between, and it is usually invisible on a listing. A native speaker can improve a student's spoken fluency and will often charge at the budget end of the Dubai market. What they generally cannot do is look at a Paper 1 script and say that the language marks are fine, the message marks are thin and conceptual understanding has been forfeited because a blog post was written where a formal report was asked for. Those are three different problems and only one of them is a French problem.

So this page is organised around money rather than around syllabus. What the Dubai market charges, with sources and dates. What moves the number: level, component, how close the school's oral recording window is, how many sessions a week, whether travel is priced inside the hour. What the realistic session count is for each component rather than a vague term-long commitment. And what the whole thing looks like next to a Dubai school fee bill, which is the comparison families actually make at the kitchen table.

Two framing points before the tables. Every AED figure on this page is a market rate from a named source with the month attached. None of them is an IB Gram price list: we start with a free trial lesson and a consultation, and quote against level, component and session length, because an oral intensive and a two-year HL programme are not the same purchase. And nothing here is a claim about any competitor's quality or legality, only about published rates in a market.

The delivery model is also a cost factor and we state it plainly rather than burying it. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. French B is taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The practical consequence for your budget is that no part of the hour you pay for is spent on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the tutor you get is chosen for French B rather than for postcode. That is a cost argument rather than a convenience one, and it is the reason the rate tables below compare usable minutes as well as headline figures.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family pays for French B depends heavily on where the student is coming from, because that decides how much of the course is new. These notes describe the three routes into French B that Dubai schools produce, and what each one leaves to buy.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

French B occupies the Group 2 slot at SL or HL, framed by five prescribed themes. Paper 1 is a written task in a named text type. Paper 2 is listening and reading and carries half the grade. The individual oral is internally assessed. Higher Level adds two literary works, a longer Paper 1 and a longer listening component, with around 240 recommended teaching hours against 150 at SL.

Dubai families choosing French B at HL often do so for a European university application, which raises the stakes on the grade and therefore the realistic session count. That is the main reason an HL French B plan in this city costs more over two years than an SL one: it is not a higher rate, it is more hours against a harder internal component.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

French appears as Language Acquisition across six phases, assessed on listening, reading, speaking and writing criteria. A student leaving MYP5 in phase 4 or 5 is well placed for French B HL. Phase 3 points to SL, and the difference in required support hours between those two starting points is substantial.

Dubai IB schools generally offer French as the main alternative to Arabic in Group 2, so French B classes here are large and mixed. A student at the lower end of a wide class is the commonest reason a Dubai parent starts pricing tutors in DP1 term one rather than in DP2.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

IGCSE French

British-curriculum students in Dubai usually arrive at French B from IGCSE French, which trains accurate short answers and controlled writing tasks under tight constraints. It trains comparatively little extended argument and almost nothing of the conceptual framing that Paper 1 rewards.

This is the route that most often leads a Dubai family to buy fewer hours than they need. An IGCSE grade 7 in French looks like a secure base, and the student's accuracy usually is secure. The gap is text type and message, which is cheap to fix and invisible until the first DP1 mock comes back.

FrancophoneYears 10-12

Students from French-curriculum schools

Dubai has several French national curriculum schools, and students occasionally transfer from them into an IB school. A first-language francophone in French B is in a course below their level, in the same way an Arabic heritage speaker often is, and French A should be examined as an option first.

Where a transfer student is placed in French B for timetable reasons, the honest tutoring answer is usually very few hours: exam technique and text type conventions rather than language work. We say so, because selling a two-year programme to a native speaker would be taking money for teaching them their own language.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Pricing a French B plan means pricing components, since each one takes a different number of sessions to move. The entries below are the units we quote against, with the weighting or mark allocation attached.

Paper 1 written task

SL 1 h 15 min - HL 1 h 30 min - 25%

One task from three, in a named text type on a prescribed theme, marked out of 30 across language, message and conceptual understanding. Typically three to five sessions to move if the problem is structure or text type, and considerably more if it is range of expression.

Conceptual understanding, criterion C

6 of 30 marks

Audience, purpose, context and register for the text type requested. The cheapest component on the page to fix: two to three sessions on the conventions of letters, blogs, speeches, reports, reviews and diary entries, then enforcement on every subsequent piece of writing.

Paper 2 listening

SL 45 min - HL 1 hour

Recorded French at natural pace with comprehension questions. Usually the most expensive component to shift because it needs exposure hours rather than teaching hours, which is why we set it as homework drilling and use session time for technique and review.

Paper 2 reading

SL and HL - 1 hour

Authentic texts with questions that reward precise location of information. Responds quickly to question-type work: four to six sessions sorted by question type generally produces more than a term of reading passages end to end.

Individual oral, SL

SL - 25% - 30 marks

A visual stimulus on a prescribed theme, a conversation on it, then at least one further theme. Four to six sessions on unseen images in the weeks before the school's recording window is the standard block families buy, and the one with the most visible return.

Individual oral, HL

HL - 25% - 30 marks

Starts from an extract from one of the two literary works studied. Preparation has to begin while the works are being taught, so the HL oral is a DP1 cost rather than a DP2 one. Starting it in DP2 is what makes HL plans expensive.

The two HL literary works

HL only

Studied for the oral rather than for the written papers, which is why students neglect them. Commonly set texts in Dubai schools include short contemporary novels and twentieth-century classics. Two or three sessions per work, done in DP1, removes most of the HL oral risk.

French grammar that carries marks

All levels

The subjunctive, the distinction between passé composé and imparfait, past participle agreement, pronoun order with y and en, and relative pronouns such as dont and lequel. A finite list, which makes it a costable piece of work rather than an open-ended one.

Register and the tu or vous decision

All levels

A formal email written in the second person singular undermines the register marks no matter how accurate the French is. One session, applied thereafter. Among the highest returns per AED spent anywhere on the course.

Spoken fluency and hesitation control

All levels

The one area where a non-specialist native speaker at the budget end of the Dubai market genuinely delivers value. Where fluency is the only gap, we will say that a cheaper conversation partner is the better purchase for part of the plan.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying French B support in Dubai, priced differently because they contain different amounts of work between sessions. The first is cheapest per week and the third is cheapest overall if bought at the right moment.

Weekly session, no work between

One live hour a week with no marking in between. This is the pattern most quoted rates assume and it is the cheapest per week. It suits a student whose gap is fluency and confidence rather than written marks, because conversation improves inside the session itself.

  • Lowest weekly cost of the three patterns
  • No marking turnaround, so no written feedback between sessions
  • Best fit where spoken hesitation is the main problem
  • Easy to pause during school exam weeks

Weekly session with fortnightly marked writing

The standard plan for a student losing Paper 1 marks. One session a week, with a timed written task every second week marked against language, message and conceptual understanding. Marking takes tutor time outside the lesson, which is why plans like this are priced above a conversation hour in every market we surveyed.

  • A marked script with three criterion scores every fortnight
  • Session agenda set by the lowest criterion, not by the course order
  • Grammar worked from a list of the student's own recurring errors
  • Progress visible as criterion movement rather than as a feeling

Component intensive, bought at the right moment

A short block of four to six sessions aimed at one component: the oral before the school's recording window, or reading technique before mocks. Higher per week, lower in total, and the pattern with the clearest return. It only works if bought before the deadline rather than after the result.

  • Four to six sessions inside three weeks
  • One component only, with a defined finish point
  • Oral blocks use unseen stimulus material every session
  • Cheapest route to a visible grade change if timed correctly

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What French B tutoring costs in Dubai, in AED

A qualified subject tutor teaching online in Dubai costs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour. An IB or IGCSE specialist costs roughly AED 200 to 450 and above. A budget tutor, typically a university student or a generalist, starts between AED 45 and 150. An in-home one-to-one visit runs AED 180 to 500, with travel priced inside the billed hour. A premium named tutor can exceed AED 500. Those bands come from published rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026.

Monthly packaging is common and worth reading carefully. The market shows online packages around AED 799 a month for eight sessions, and in-home packages around AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A package is cheaper per hour and less flexible; the trade is usually the cancellation terms.

None of these are IB Gram's prices and we do not publish a tier list, because the honest quote depends on the component, the level and how much marking sits between sessions. What we do publish is the free trial lesson, which requires no card, and a consultation in which the session count is estimated per component rather than sold as a term. The table below is the market, with the source attached to each row, so a quote you receive from anyone can be checked against it.

A French speaker and a French B tutor are different purchases

This is the distinction that decides whether money spent on French in Dubai produces a grade change. The city has many fluent French speakers willing to teach, and at the budget end of the market they are good value for what they do, which is conversation, vocabulary and confidence. What they typically cannot do is mark a Paper 1 against the published criteria, explain why an otherwise good piece of writing scored two out of six on conceptual understanding, or prepare an HL oral from a literary extract.

The practical test is to ask a prospective tutor a question about marks rather than about French. How many marks is Paper 1 worth and how are they split? What is the difference between the SL and HL individual oral? How many literary works does HL require and what are they for? A French B specialist answers all three in a sentence each. A fluent speaker who has not taught the course will answer the first vaguely and the other two not at all, which is useful information rather than a criticism.

There is a sensible hybrid that almost nobody suggests because it reduces the sale. Where a student's written marks are adequate and the gap is spoken hesitation, the right purchase is a cheaper conversation partner for part of the plan and a specialist for a short component block, not a specialist weekly for two years. We will say so when the evidence points that way. The table sets out what each model actually delivers against what the Dubai market charges for it.

What moves the number for a Dubai family

Five variables account for almost all of the spread in quotes a Dubai family will receive for French B. Level, because HL carries two literary works, a longer Paper 1, a longer listening paper and around 240 recommended teaching hours against 150. Component, because marking written work between sessions costs tutor time that a conversation hour does not. Timing, because a block bought three weeks before the school's oral window achieves more per session than the same block bought three weeks after the result.

The fourth is frequency, which cuts both ways. Two shorter sessions a week usually produce more movement than one long one, particularly for listening, but they cost more in total and are harder to schedule around a Dubai school day. The fifth is delivery format, and this is the one families underweight. An in-home rate in the AED 180 to 500 band prices travel inside the hour, and in this city a 16:30 start in Al Barsha South or Academic City can mean a meaningful share of the session spent arriving.

Set all five against the thing that does not move. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package. A fixed fee bill makes the tutoring line easier to judge: it is a marginal addition to a known total rather than a competing unknown, and families in our experience then decide it on whether the criterion marks move rather than on the hourly figure.

04

How many sessions does French B actually need?

  • Text type and criterion C: two to four sessions
  • Reading technique by question type: four to six sessions
  • SL oral block before the school window: four to six sessions
  • Listening: technique in session, volume as homework, measured in months
  • Range of expression: not purchasable in a short block

Open-ended tutoring is the most expensive kind, and the commonest in this market, because nobody commits to a number. Here are the estimates we work from, stated as ranges and derived from component rather than from optimism. Conceptual understanding and text type conventions: two to four sessions, then enforcement at no extra cost on every later piece of writing. Paper 1 structure: three to five. Reading technique sorted by question type: four to six. The SL oral block before a school window: four to six.

Two components resist this. Listening does not respond to session count because it needs exposure hours, so the sensible plan uses sessions for technique and review and pushes the volume into homework drilling the student does alone. Range of expression, the difference between accurate French and interesting French, is a function of reading and writing volume over months. A tutor who implies either can be bought in six sessions is selling something that does not exist.

So a realistic French B SL plan for a student losing Paper 1 and oral marks is something like fifteen to twenty sessions spread across DP1 and DP2, not a weekly booking for two years. An HL plan with the two literary works and the HL oral runs higher, perhaps twenty-five to thirty-five, and costs materially less if the literary work is done in DP1. We put the estimate in writing at the consultation so it can be checked against what actually gets booked.

05

In-home French tuition in Dubai: what the AED 180-500 band buys

The in-home band exists and families should understand it even though we do not sell into it. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, with home tutors more broadly at AED 200 to 500, and the premium over an online rate is substantially travel. In-home packages around AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour sessions appear in the same market, which is a different product again: two-hour sessions suit some students and exhaust others.

What that premium buys is a tutor who is physically present, which genuinely helps some students, and a tutor drawn from whoever will travel to your community, which helps none. For French in Dubai the second effect is milder than for Arabic A, because fluent French speakers are widely distributed across the city. For French B specialists it still bites: a parent in Motor City choosing from tutors willing to drive to Motor City at 17:00 on a Tuesday is choosing from a short list.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. French B here is taught one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. What that means for cost is simple: the full hour is teaching, the tutor is selected for French B rather than for proximity, and a session can be held at 19:30 on a weekday without anybody calculating a journey. Whether that is worth more than physical presence is a judgement a family should make with the trade stated, which is why it is stated here.

06

Where the French B marks actually are, and what each is worth fixing

  • Paper 1: 12 marks language, 12 message, 6 conceptual understanding
  • Paper 2 listening and reading together: 50% of the grade
  • Individual oral: 30 marks, internally assessed and recorded
  • Register and the tu or vous decision: one session, applied thereafter

Paper 1 is 25% of the grade, marked out of 30: twelve marks for language, twelve for message, six for conceptual understanding. Paper 2, listening and reading together, is 50%. The individual oral is 25% and marked out of 30 on language, message and interactive skills. Those numbers decide where money should go, and they usually contradict instinct, because the component students enjoy practising is writing and the component carrying half the grade is the one they skip.

The cheapest marks on the page are the six for conceptual understanding. A student who writes a well-argued essay where a formal letter was requested keeps most of the language marks and loses those six outright. Each text type has a short list of conventions: how it opens, how it addresses the reader, whether it carries a heading or a sign-off, whether the first person is appropriate, and whether tu or vous is correct. A page of notes and a fortnight of enforcement.

The French-specific grammar that carries real weight is also finite, which makes it costable. The subjunctive after particular triggers. Passé composé against imparfait, which is a meaning distinction rather than a tense choice. Past participle agreement. Pronoun order with y and en. Relative pronouns such as dont and lequel. We build a numbered list from the student's own marked work rather than teaching French grammar from the top, and the list shortens over a term as items stop appearing.

07

Tutoring cost in context against a Dubai school fee bill

Families decide tutoring spend relative to what they are already paying, so the context is worth setting out. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with UK curriculum accounting for 37% of enrolment, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7%. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no fee increase for 2026-27, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

Against a fee bill that is fixed for the year, the arithmetic on tutoring becomes a marginal decision rather than a competing one. A weekly specialist session at the mid-band market rate across a school year is a visible but modest addition. A component block of five sessions before an oral window is smaller still, and it is the purchase with the clearest attributable effect, because the oral mark is recorded on a known date and either moved or did not.

The context cuts the other way too, and should. A family paying substantial fees is entitled to ask what the school is already providing for French B before buying anything: whether there is a clinic, whether past papers are marked, whether the oral window is published, and what the teacher's own diagnosis of the gap is. Several of the things families pay us for are available free inside the school if someone asks for them, and we would rather say that than sell around it.

What we will not charge you for

The free trial lesson has no card requirement and no obligation, and it is spent on a diagnostic rather than on a sales conversation: a marked piece of the student's writing, a criterion breakdown, and an estimated session count per component. The written estimate is yours whether or not you book, including if you take it to a cheaper tutor, which happens and is a reasonable thing for a family to do.

We will not sell a two-year weekly booking where the evidence points to two component blocks. We will not sell French B support to a native francophone placed in the course for timetable reasons beyond a few sessions of exam technique, because teaching someone their own language at a specialist rate is not a service. And we will not quote for listening improvement as though it were a six-session fix, since the volume that moves listening is exposure the student does alone.

Two further things that are not for sale at any price. No tutor will write, redraft or complete an assessed component: a French B oral is delivered by the student and any written coursework is theirs. And IB Gram claims no approval, accreditation or licence from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE or the IB, holds no UAE office, and sends no tutor to a UAE address. Private tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years; ask any tutor to show you theirs.

Where we tutor

French B across Dubai, and what each area does to the bill

Where a family lives changes the cost of tuition in Dubai more than it should, because in-home rates price travel inside the hour and because session timing is set by the commute. The notes below say what each cluster means practically.

Oud Metha and Al Jaddaf

The historic centre of Dubai's francophone school provision. French speakers are easy to find here, which holds the budget end of the market down, but French B specialists are no more common than anywhere else in the city.

Academic City and Al Ruwayyah

Campuses clustered together at the eastern edge, forty minutes from most residential districts at the wrong time of day. In-home rates quoted into this area usually carry the longest travel component in Dubai.

Jumeirah 1 to 3

Established villa districts with a long-standing French and Lebanese presence and short distances to several IB schools. Early-evening sessions are feasible here, which widens the pool of tutors willing to quote.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

Central, well served by schools, and the area where families most often compare an in-home quote against an online one directly. The travel component is small, so the comparison comes down to specialism rather than to logistics.

Za'abeel and Trade Centre

Apartment living with parents working nearby, so sessions can start earlier than the city average. Students here are often juggling French B against a demanding HL grid, which argues for shorter, more frequent slots.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Dense newer communities with large school catchments and heavy late-afternoon traffic on the Al Khail corridor. Any in-home quote for a 16:30 start in this area is pricing a journey as well as a lesson.

The Lakes and Emirates Living

Villa communities with established Diploma cohorts and a high proportion of HL French requests. HL plans bought in DP1 cost less in total than the same plan bought in DP2, and this cluster tends to buy early.

Motor City and Green Community

Western communities with limited school choice nearby and long cross-city school runs. The second journey of the day is the one that gets cancelled, which is the practical reason online delivery holds its schedule here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Oud Metha, Al Jaddaf and Academic City

Dubai's francophone education centre. The French national curriculum schools here do not produce French B candidates, since their students sit the French baccalaureate, but their presence is why native French speakers are abundant and inexpensive in this city. The bilingual IB provision nearby is a different matter.

Jumeirah, Al Safa and Al Barsha South

Where most of our French B requests originate, from IB and British schools offering French as the principal Group 2 option. Classes are large and mixed, and the students who need paid support are usually at the lower end of a wide ability range rather than struggling in absolute terms.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send a marked script and the school's oral window

Two documents settle most of the pricing conversation: the most recent marked French B written task and the date the school plans to record the individual oral. Together they say which component to buy and when the block has to happen to be worth buying.

  2. 02

Free trial, used for a criterion breakdown

The trial session re-marks that script on language, message and conceptual understanding and produces three numbers. No card is required and the breakdown is yours to keep, including if you use it to brief a different tutor.

  3. 03

Get the session estimate in writing

The consultation produces a range per component: text type, Paper 1 structure, reading technique, the oral block, and whether listening belongs in sessions or in homework. A written estimate is checkable later, which an open-ended weekly booking is not.

  4. 04

Buy the component, not the term

Sessions run live online in Gulf Standard Time, usually after 18:00 on a Dubai weekday. Blocks have a defined finish point. Where a block ends and the marks have moved, we say so and stop rather than rolling into a standing weekly slot by default.

  5. 05

    Review against the estimate

At the end of each block the criterion marks are compared with the estimate given at the start. If the plan underdelivered, we say which assumption was wrong. If a cheaper arrangement would now serve better, including a conversation partner for fluency, we say that too.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with sources and dates

Three of the six pages ranking for this kind of query publish no price at all and the two that do quote US dollars. Every AED band here carries the source and the month it was read, so a quote from anyone can be checked against the market rather than against a feeling.

Session counts estimated per component

Open-ended weekly tutoring is the most expensive kind. We estimate a range per component in writing at the consultation, including the two components that cannot be fixed in a short block, so a family knows what they are committing to before they commit.

A straight answer on whether you need a specialist

Where the only gap is spoken hesitation, a cheaper fluent conversation partner for part of the plan is the better purchase and we will say so. Dubai has plenty of them. What they cannot do is mark Paper 1 to criteria, which is the work we are for.

The in-home premium explained rather than ignored

In-home rates in Dubai price travel inside the hour and narrow the tutor pool to whoever will drive to your community. We do not sell into that band, so we set out the trade in plain terms and let a family weigh presence against choice of tutor.

Delivery and status stated without hedging

Lessons are one-to-one and online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. No tutor is sent to a UAE address, there is no UAE office, and no approval or accreditation from KHDA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE or the IB is held or claimed.

Things the school may already provide free

Marked past papers, a subject clinic, a published oral window and the teacher's own diagnosis of the gap are often available inside a school for the asking. We would rather point a fee-paying family at those than quietly charge for them.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does a French B tutor cost per hour in Dubai in AED?+

Published rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, read in October 2026, put budget or university-student tutors at AED 45-150, qualified online subject tutors at AED 150-300, IB and IGCSE specialists at AED 200-450 and above, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-500 with travel inside the hour, and premium named tutors above AED 500. Monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 budget, AED 600-1,200 mid-band and AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work. Those are market figures, not IB Gram prices.

Why is French B tutoring in Dubai cheaper at the bottom than other subjects?+

Because Dubai has a large francophone resident population and several French-curriculum schools, so fluent French speakers willing to teach are abundant. That holds the budget end of the market down in a way it is not held down for, say, Arabic A Literature. The specialist end behaves normally: tutors who have taught or marked the current IB French B assessment are a small group and priced accordingly. The unusually wide gap between those two bands is the single most important thing to understand before comparing French quotes in this city.

Does a native French speaker make a good French B tutor?+

For fluency and confidence, often yes, and at the budget end of the Dubai market that can be good value. For marks, usually not on its own. Paper 1 is scored out of 30 on language, message and conceptual understanding, and the six conceptual understanding marks turn on text type conventions rather than on French. Ask a prospective tutor how Paper 1 is marked, how the SL and HL orals differ, and what the two HL literary works are for. A specialist answers each in a sentence; a fluent speaker who has not taught the course generally cannot.

Is French B HL more expensive to support than SL?+

In total, yes, though not usually at a higher hourly rate. HL carries two literary works, a longer Paper 1 and a longer listening component, with around 240 recommended teaching hours against 150 at SL. The HL individual oral starts from a literary extract rather than from an image, so preparation has to begin while the works are being taught. An HL plan started in DP1 typically runs twenty-five to thirty-five sessions across two years. The same plan started in DP2 costs more and delivers less, because the literary work has to be compressed.

How many French B sessions will my child actually need?+

Estimated by component rather than by term. Text type conventions and conceptual understanding: two to four sessions. Paper 1 structure: three to five. Reading technique sorted by question type: four to six. An SL oral block before the school's recording window: four to six. That puts a realistic SL plan at fifteen to twenty sessions spread across both years rather than a weekly booking for two. Two things resist estimation: listening, which needs exposure hours rather than sessions, and range of expression, which builds over months of reading and writing.

What does the AED 180-500 in-home band actually buy in Dubai?+

Physical presence, plus travel priced inside the billed hour, plus a tutor drawn from whoever is willing to drive to your community at that time of day. Bestimate's 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350 and home tutors more broadly at AED 200-500, with monthly in-home packages around AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Presence helps some students genuinely. The narrowing of the tutor pool helps nobody, and in Al Barsha South or Academic City at 16:30 the travel component is not theoretical.

Are monthly tutoring packages in Dubai better value than paying per hour?+

Cheaper per hour and less flexible, which is the usual trade. The Dubai market shows online packages around AED 799 a month for eight sessions and in-home packages around AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour sessions, as published in October 2026. The thing to read before signing is the cancellation and rollover terms, because a DP timetable contains mock weeks, school trips and exam leave that will collide with a fixed eight-session month. Where a package has a condition attached, that condition should be visible on the same screen as the price.

What are the cheapest marks to win on French B Paper 1?+

The six conceptual understanding marks, which turn on audience, purpose, context and register for the text type requested rather than on the quality of the French. A student who writes a strong essay where a formal letter was asked for keeps most of the language marks and forfeits those six. Each text type has a short, fixed set of conventions: opening, form of address, heading or sign-off, whether the first person fits, and whether tu or vous is correct. Two to four sessions of work, then enforcement on every later piece at no extra cost.

Which French grammar points are worth paying a tutor to fix?+

The finite ones, because they can be costed. The subjunctive after its common triggers. Passé composé against imparfait, which is a difference in meaning rather than a choice of tense. Past participle agreement. Pronoun order with y and en. Relative pronouns including dont and lequel. Register and the tu or vous decision, which is one session and applies to everything afterwards. What is not worth buying as a short block is range of expression, the gap between accurate French and interesting French, because that comes from reading and writing volume over months.

Can a French B tutor visit our home in Dubai?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. French B is taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, which usually means a weekday evening or a weekend morning. The cost consequence is straightforward: the whole hour is teaching rather than partly travel, and the tutor is chosen for French B experience rather than for living near you. Whether that outweighs physical presence is a judgement we think families should make with the trade stated.

When should we book a French B oral block to get the most from it?+

Three weeks before the date the school intends to record the individual oral, which means asking for that date in DP1 rather than hearing about it in DP2. Specialist availability tightens before the May session and in the weeks around schools' internal recording and submission windows, which is when demand for French B oral blocks concentrates. Published rate bands do not generally change, but choice does, and a block booked late is a block taken at whatever times remain. The planning answer is to ask the school in DP1 for the date it intends to record the individual oral, then book the component block three weeks ahead of it. Same number of sessions, materially different return.

What is my child's school likely to provide for French B at no cost?+

More than many fee-paying families ask for. Marked past papers, a subject clinic or drop-in, the published date of the individual oral window, the two HL literary works with the department's own notes, and the teacher's specific diagnosis of where the marks are going. Dubai private school fees were confirmed by KHDA in May 2026 as not rising for 2026-27, so the fee line is fixed and already paid. It is worth asking for those four things before buying any hours, and we would rather say so than quote around them.

Is paying for a French B tutor worth it if my child is already at a grade 5?+

It depends which component is holding the 5, and that is a cheap thing to establish. If Paper 1 is losing message and conceptual understanding marks, a short block is good value because those marks are technique rather than language. If the 5 is held down by Paper 2 listening, the honest answer is that no small number of sessions will move it, and the money is better spent on structured daily exposure the student does alone with a tutor reviewing method monthly. The trial session's criterion breakdown tells you which case you are in.

My child is a native French speaker placed in French B. Should we pay for tutoring?+

Very little of it. A francophone in French B is in a course below their level, and the useful work is exam technique rather than language: text type conventions, how the oral is structured and marked, and how Paper 2 reading questions want their answers framed. That is a handful of sessions, not a programme. The larger question is whether French A is available and appropriate, which is a conversation for the Diploma coordinator in DP1 while the timetable can still move. Selling a native speaker two years of their own language at a specialist rate is not a service.

Do private tutors in Dubai need a permit, and does that affect the price?+

A permit is required and it is free, so it should not affect the price. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through MoHRE's smart app, website and e-services system. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Any tutor quoting a fee for their own licensing as part of your rate is quoting for something that costs nothing. Ask to see the permit; IB Gram holds no regulator licence and claims none.

Get a criterion breakdown and a session estimate before you pay anything

The expensive mistake in French B is not the hourly rate. It is buying two years of weekly sessions when the evidence pointed to two short component blocks, or buying a specialist for fluency work a cheaper conversation partner would have done better. Send the most recent marked task and the date of the school's oral window, and the free trial produces three criterion scores and a written session estimate, with no card required and no obligation. Sessions run one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time. If a cheaper arrangement would serve your child better, we will put that in the estimate.
