IB DP Hindi B Home Tutor in Dubai

Most families looking for an IB DP Hindi B home tutor in Dubai are dealing with the same puzzle: a child who speaks Hindi comfortably at home and is being marked at a 4. This page explains what Hindi B actually assesses, which marks the Devanagari script and the register system quietly take away, and what a single session can and cannot fix. IB Gram teaches it one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Script, register and reading tested separately before any teaching starts
  • Half the Hindi B grade sits in listening and reading, not in speaking
  • Delivered online over live video; IB Gram makes no UAE home visits

Why fluent Hindi at home produces a 4 on paper

A Dubai parent whose child has spoken Hindi since birth reasonably expects Hindi B to be the easy subject on the Diploma timetable. It frequently is not, and the reason is specific rather than mysterious. Hindi B does not assess whether a student can hold a conversation. It assesses writing in Devanagari to an academic standard, reading unfamiliar text under timing, listening to speakers the student has never heard, and sustaining a recorded discussion in a register they almost certainly do not use at home. Household fluency covers one of those four and partially covers another.

The script is the first place marks go. A student who speaks fluently and writes rarely produces Devanagari with inconsistent matras, missing nukta where meaning depends on it, and anusvara and chandrabindu used interchangeably. Each of those is a small deduction, each is invisible in speech, and together across a written task they add up to a grade. It is also the single most fixable thing in the subject: a few weeks of dictation and copy-correction clears most of it, which is why a marked written sample is the only sensible way to start.

Register is the second. Spoken Hindi at home in a Dubai household is informal, often mixed with English, and frequently a family dialect rather than standard Hindi. The written task expects consistent formality appropriate to the text type, and the discrimination between aap, tum and tū has to be maintained across a whole piece rather than chosen sentence by sentence. Students slip mid-paragraph, and the examiner reads that as weak control of the language rather than as a small inconsistency.

The third is reading, and it is the quietest. Half the grade sits in the receptive paper, covering listening and reading. A student who speaks Hindi and does not read it has recognition vocabulary that looks adequate and collapses on unfamiliar text types: a newspaper editorial, a formal letter, a public notice. Nothing in household conversation prepares anybody for inference questions on a text they have never encountered, and nothing in a conversation-based tutoring arrangement fixes it either.

Dubai is the right city to be having this conversation in. Indian-curriculum schools account for roughly 26 per cent of private-school enrolment here, so there is no shortage of Hindi speakers. Hindi B sets inside IB schools are nonetheless small, and teachers who can mark Devanagari against the Group 2 band descriptors are scarcer than the number of Hindi speakers in the city suggests. The search phrase is home tutor, and in Dubai that usually means someone arriving by car. IB Gram does not do that in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Hindi B teaching arrives as one-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with the script on a shared screen where both parties can see what was actually written.

Hindi appears at more than one point in a Dubai student's school career, and the version studied before the Diploma determines how much ground Hindi B has to make up.

Diploma Programme

Hindi B is a Group 2 language acquisition course assessed through a written task, a receptive paper combining listening and reading, and a recorded Individual Oral. Higher Level adds two literary works originally written in Hindi, with the oral built on an extract from one of them rather than on a visual stimulus. The five prescribed themes frame the content at both levels, so the territory is defined even where the student's prior Hindi is uneven.

In Dubai the Hindi B set often mixes students from Indian-curriculum primaries, students who moved from an international school where Hindi was a two-period option, and household speakers with no formal Hindi at all. A Diploma teacher is covering all three in the same timetabled hours, which is the arithmetic behind most outside tuition in this subject.

MYPAges 11-16 · Language acquisition phases 1-6

Middle Years Programme

MYP Hindi reports by phase and against four criteria that separate listening, reading, speaking and writing. For a household Hindi speaker the criterion profile is the useful part of the report: high comprehension scores beside a low score on accurate language use is the classic pattern, and it predicts precisely the written-task problems Hindi B will expose two years later.

Dubai schools differ in how early they start Devanagari writing, and students who moved schools mid-primary sometimes skipped the year it was taught properly. Where a student speaks well and writes hesitantly, that gap in the timeline is usually the explanation, and it is worth asking about before assuming a learning difficulty.

DPAges 16-19 · SL and HL · Group 1

Hindi A: Language and Literature

The Group 1 route for students whose Hindi is a first language, studied as literature and textual analysis rather than language acquisition. It is the only Hindi route that can contribute towards the bilingual diploma, and it demands reading stamina in Hindi rather than conversational comfort. Tutoring for it resembles literature support and is a different purchase from Hindi B work.

Very few Dubai schools timetable Hindi A, because the cohort rarely justifies a set. Some can offer it as a school-supported self-taught Standard Level option, which is a serious commitment for a student who speaks Hindi but has never read a full novel in it. Ask the coordinator what is genuinely available before planning around it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11 · Pre-Diploma

Cambridge IGCSE Hindi and the CBSE route

Dubai students reach the Diploma from two very different pre-16 Hindi experiences. Cambridge IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language is an examined qualification with its own syllabus code and paper structure. CBSE runs two Hindi courses at class 10 with different demands. Neither maps directly onto Hindi B, and the mapping matters because it determines whether the student needs script work, range work, or both.

A student arriving in a Dubai IB school from a CBSE class 10 is often stronger on literature-style comprehension and weaker on the functional writing Group 2 rewards. One arriving from IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language is usually the reverse. Naming which route the student came from is the single most useful fact in a first enquiry.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A Dubai IB school's Group 2 block decides what is actually possible, and a Hindi B student is usually weighing these options. Each note is about demand rather than content coverage.

Hindi B Higher Level

HL

Two literary works originally written in Hindi, longer written responses, denser reading, and an Individual Oral built on an unseen extract from one of the works. For a household speaker who has never read extended Hindi prose, this is a reading commitment rather than a language one, and it needs a schedule from DP1 rather than a scramble in the final term.

Hindi B Standard Level

SL

The same three components without the literary works, with the oral based on a visual stimulus linked to one of the prescribed themes. For a student whose spoken Hindi is strong and whose Devanagari is unreliable, Standard Level with disciplined script and register work usually produces a better Diploma total than Higher Level thinly covered.

Hindi A: Language and Literature

HL and SL · Group 1

First-language Hindi taught as literary and textual analysis, and the only Hindi route counting towards the bilingual diploma. Rarely timetabled in Dubai, occasionally available as a school-supported self-taught Standard Level option. The reading load is the deciding factor, not the speaking.

Cambridge IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language

Pre-16 · Years 10-11

The pre-Diploma qualification many Dubai students take, with its own syllabus and paper structure published by Cambridge. Worth naming in a tutoring enquiry because the writing conventions rewarded there are closer to Group 2 functional writing than the CBSE literature route is, which changes what has to be built in DP1.

Urdu B

HL and SL

Frequently considered alongside Hindi by Dubai families, and a genuinely different course because of the script. Students who speak both and read neither sometimes assume one choice is easier; the shared spoken vocabulary does not transfer to the written assessment, where Nastaliq and Devanagari are entirely separate skills.

Spanish B

HL and SL

Listed because it is the alternative many Dubai students take when the Hindi B set is full or the timetable blocks clash. The error profile is unrelated: tense and mood control rather than script and register. A family switching a child between them should expect to start the diagnostic process again from scratch.

French B

HL and SL

The best-supplied Group 2 language in Dubai IB schools, and the usual fallback where Hindi B cannot be timetabled. Supply matters here: a student in a well-staffed French set may get more individual feedback inside school than one in a Hindi set of five, which changes how much outside help is needed.

Arabic as an additional language

School mandatory stream

Mandatory in every Dubai private school under KHDA requirements regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes organised for Arab and non-Arab students. A Hindi B candidate therefore carries three languages in the school week, and counting the total minutes is worth doing before adding a fourth commitment.

Extended Essay in Hindi B

Category 2 · DP core

A 4,000-word essay written in Hindi on an aspect of culture in the Hindi-speaking world, supervised inside the school. The tutor's role is process coaching only: framing a researchable question, evaluating sources and giving feedback on the student's own drafts. Writing in Devanagari at that length is itself a skill worth practising early.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Hindi B work splits into three jobs that run on different timescales. Buying them separately uses fewer total hours than a single open-ended weekly arrangement.

Script accuracy, short and frequent

Dictation, copy-correction and targeted writing drills aimed at matra placement, nukta where meaning depends on it, and the anusvara and chandrabindu distinction. This is the fastest-moving work in the subject and the least interesting to do, which is why it gets skipped. Short sessions several times a week beat one long one, because the skill is motor and perceptual rather than conceptual.

  • Dictation from unfamiliar text, not from memorised passages
  • Error types counted separately so progress is visible per type
  • Handwritten work photographed and marked, not typed
  • Weekly retest on the errors from the previous fortnight

Register and written task discipline

A weekly cycle built on the text types the written task uses, with register maintained across a whole piece rather than chosen sentence by sentence. The student writes, the tutor marks against the criteria and names which register decision failed where, and the next session opens on that rather than on new content.

  • One written task per fortnight, marked by criterion
  • Register tracked across the whole piece, not per sentence
  • Text type conventions modelled on topics the student is not writing about
  • Running log of formality slips with the context noted

Receptive paper clinic

Timed listening and reading on unfamiliar text types and unfamiliar speakers, concentrated near the February break rather than spread across the year. Half the grade sits in this paper and it attracts the least tutoring attention, because practising comprehension feels less like a lesson than talking does.

  • Editorials, notices and formal letters, not textbook passages
  • Speakers the student has not heard before, at natural pace
  • Inference question types isolated and drilled separately
  • Misread and misheard items listed rather than merely scored

01

What Hindi B assesses, component by component

Hindi B is assessed through three components and the proportions explain most of what goes wrong. The written task, a single piece produced in response to a stimulus in a set text type, carries a quarter of the grade. The receptive paper, combining listening and reading, carries half. The recorded Individual Oral carries the remaining quarter. The weightings are the same at Standard and Higher Level; what rises at Higher Level is the demand inside each one, plus the arrival of two literary works.

Set against the way families buy Hindi help, those numbers are awkward. The instinct is to buy conversation, because speaking is what a parent can hear and what a student enjoys. The oral is a quarter of the grade and is also the component a household speaker is least likely to fail. The paper carrying twice the weight rewards reading unfamiliar text and hearing unfamiliar speakers, and improves through volume and timed practice rather than through discussion. If a budget stretches to one component, the arithmetic says the receptive paper.

Component timings, word bands and the school's internal dates should be confirmed against the current subject guide and with the Diploma coordinator. This page publishes no IB exam or results date: the IB's own site could not be verified by automated checking for this project, and an unconfirmed date on a page like this is worse than none. The weightings are the stable part, and they are what a tuition plan should be built on.

Devanagari: the marks the script quietly takes

Script errors are the most under-discussed mark loss in Hindi B, because they do not exist in speech and so no adult in the student's life has ever noticed them. A student who speaks Hindi daily and writes it occasionally produces work with matras placed by habit rather than by rule, nukta omitted where it changes the word, and anusvara and chandrabindu used as if interchangeable. Individually small; collectively, across a written task, a grade.

The good news is the speed of repair. Script accuracy is a motor and perceptual skill, which responds to short frequent practice far better than to long explanation. Dictation from unfamiliar text, copy-correction of the student's own handwriting, and a weekly retest of the previous fortnight's errors will clear most of the pattern inside a term. Typing is a poor substitute: an input method quietly fixes some of the very errors the exam will penalise, so the practice has to be handwritten and photographed if it is to be useful.

There is one Dubai-specific wrinkle worth naming. Students who learnt their Hindi reading from signage, film subtitles and messaging apps have encountered a great deal of Devanagari in forms that are not standard: transliterated English, abbreviations, and informal spellings. That exposure builds confident recognition and unreliable production. It is not a deficiency of effort and it is invisible until somebody asks for a handwritten paragraph on a topic the student has not chosen.

Legibility under time pressure is the last piece and the one most often missed. Handwriting that is perfectly clear for a paragraph degrades sharply in the final third of a timed task, when the student is racing the clock and the hand is tired. Examiners mark what they can read. Four to six sessions of deliberately timed handwritten practice, with the last page compared against the first, usually corrects both the pace and the deterioration, and it costs very little because the language work is already done.

03

Register: aap, tum and the problem of family Hindi

  • The commonest loss is drift, not ignorance: correct opening, informal close
  • The second commonest is uniform over-formality that misses the text type
  • Write the same content twice in two registers, then mark both for consistency
  • Log where the slip happens; it is usually the same point in every piece

Hindi encodes social relationship in its grammar, and Hindi B assesses whether a student controls that system rather than whether they are aware of it. The written task requires a register appropriate to the text type and maintained across the whole piece: a formal letter does not drift into the second person a student uses with a cousin, and an article does not switch address halfway through. Students who learnt Hindi socially choose register per sentence by instinct, and instinct is inconsistent.

The specific failure is almost always mid-piece drift. A student starts a formal letter correctly, relaxes by the third paragraph, and finishes in the voice they would use at home. An examiner reads that as weak control of the language rather than as a lapse of attention. The second failure is the opposite: over-formality applied indiscriminately, where a student who has been told to be formal produces a text message to a friend written like a government notice, which misses the text type conventions instead.

Register responds fast to the right practice and not at all to the wrong one. Explaining the system takes ten minutes and changes nothing. Writing the same content twice, once formally and once informally, and then marking both for consistency, changes a great deal. A running log of formality slips with the surrounding context noted makes the pattern visible: most students slip in the same place every time, usually when the content becomes emotionally engaging and attention moves from form to meaning.

04

What one 60-minute Hindi B session can fix, and what cannot be fixed in one

Families book Hindi tuition at two moments: the start of DP1, and three weeks before a mock. The honest answer about what a single session achieves differs enormously between those two, and being clear about it is more useful than selling a package. Some things in this subject genuinely move inside an hour, because they are rule-based and the student already has the underlying language. Others are volume problems and no single session touches them.

Inside one hour: the nukta list for the words that actually matter to this student, the anusvara and chandrabindu rule, the structure of a formal letter in Hindi, the question types in the reading paper that reward scanning rather than reading, and the timing discipline for the Individual Oral so the discussion is not crushed by an over-long presentation. Each of those is a discrete fix with a visible effect on the next piece of work, and a tutor who spends a pre-mock hour on general conversation has wasted it.

Not inside one hour, or ten: reading fluency on unfamiliar text types, listening tolerance for unfamiliar speakers, structural range in writing, and the vocabulary for discussing literature at Higher Level. Those are accumulation problems measured in terms. A provider who implies otherwise three weeks before an exam is selling reassurance. The useful pre-exam conversation is about which discrete fixes remain available, which is a short and specific list rather than a programme.

The distinction also governs when a family should start. A student in DP1 with a term and a half ahead of them should be spending it on the accumulation problems, because that is the only window in which they move. A student six weeks from a final paper should be spending every hour on the discrete list, because the accumulation work will not land in time and attempting it crowds out the fixes that would. Both plans are legitimate. Running the DP1 plan in the final six weeks is the mistake that wastes the most money in this subject.

Hindi B against Hindi A, and against the CBSE Hindi left behind

Three Hindi routes get confused with each other in Dubai, and the confusion costs students. Hindi B is a Group 2 acquisition course. Hindi A: Language and Literature is a Group 1 course for first-language speakers, taught as textual analysis, and it is the only Hindi option that can contribute towards the bilingual diploma. CBSE Hindi, which many Dubai students studied until class 10, is a different qualification with a literature-weighted shape that does not map onto Group 2 functional writing.

A student arriving from CBSE class 10 Hindi is usually stronger than their Hindi B classmates on literary comprehension and weaker on the functional text types the written task rewards: the formal letter, the article, the blog, the report. They also tend to be better at handwritten Devanagari, because they have been doing it in examinations. The gap is register flexibility and text type range, and it is a term of work rather than a reconstruction.

A household speaker with no formal Hindi schooling is the opposite profile and needs the opposite plan. The question of whether a strong student should be in Hindi A rather than Hindi B is for the Diploma coordinator, and the useful contribution from outside is evidence rather than advocacy: a marked written task, a timed reading score, and an honest note on reading stamina. Few Dubai schools timetable Hindi A, and where it is offered as a school-supported self-taught option the reading load deserves a frank conversation before anyone commits.

UAE Ministry of Education equivalency: what each curriculum must show

Families studying an international curriculum in Dubai eventually meet equivalency, the process by which the Ministry of Education assesses a school-leaving certificate for use in the UAE. It is worth understanding early and it is not something a tutoring provider performs, guarantees or influences. Nor is tutoring required for it: equivalency is a documentary process about qualifications, not about preparation.

The British-track requirements are published. Students must submit proof of one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That five-subject count is worth knowing precisely, because at least one ranking competitor page in this market publishes six and families act on it.

For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the International Baccalaureate, no points threshold is published on a source this project could verify, so none appears here. Verify the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the relevant attestation authority, and treat any site quoting an IB points figure without naming its source with scepticism.

Hindi alongside the Arabic every Dubai school must teach

  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools
  • Separate classes are required for Arab and non-Arab students in the relevant subjects
  • Mandatory-subject time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with a 25-minute minimum advised
  • Count the total weekly language minutes before adding Hindi tuition on top

A Hindi B candidate in Dubai is carrying more language than the subject list suggests. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, with April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction.

That has practical consequences for a tutoring plan. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs for at least 25 minutes. Add the school's English provision and a Group 2 language, and a Dubai Diploma student can be in language lessons for a substantial share of the week before any private tuition is considered. Counting those minutes honestly is the first thing to do before buying more.

There is a second constraint worth knowing. For the mandatory UAE subjects, the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, and schools are required to ensure that all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. That is a real limit on how Arabic support can be described and delivered, and it is one reason this page treats Hindi B and the school's Arabic requirement as separate problems with separate specialists rather than something one tutor absorbs.

08

What a Hindi B tutor may and may not do with assessed work

  • Allowed: criteria explained, unseen practice, drafts read and questioned, models on other topics
  • Not allowed: scripts for the oral, writing into a draft, or finished work produced for the student
  • Not allowed: redistributed IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes
  • IB Gram claims no regulator or examination-board approval of any kind

Group 2 has two places where help can cross into malpractice, and both are relevant to Hindi B. The Individual Oral is assessed as the student's own unscripted performance. The Extended Essay, where a student chooses to write one in Hindi, is assessed as the student's own research and writing under school supervision. Offers that cross those lines are available in this market, and declining them is not caution but self-preservation on the student's behalf.

A tutor may explain how each component is marked, run practice against stimuli and extracts the student has not seen, read a draft and say where it is weak, question an argument, point to a source the student has not considered, and model a text type on an entirely different topic. A tutor may not supply a script for the oral, write into the student's draft, produce finished work, or prepare answers to the specific stimulus the school will use. The second list is academic malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student.

The same boundary applies to materials. Official subject guides, past papers and mark schemes belong to the IB and are not ours to distribute; the place to read them is through the school or ibo.org. A tutor arriving with a folder of copied papers is not providing an advantage, and for unreleased material it is a serious exposure. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any examination board, and nothing on this page should be read as implying otherwise.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Hindi B enquiries reach us from across Dubai, and what differs by area is the household language pattern and the shape of the week rather than the teaching itself.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

A long-established Indian expatriate belt where Hindi is spoken daily and read rarely. Students here usually arrive with strong listening and speaking and a script that has not been used for formal writing since primary school, which is exactly the profile that benefits from dictation work.

Karama, Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Older, denser neighbourhoods with short school runs and apartment living. A recorded oral attempt needs a planned quiet half hour here rather than a spontaneous one, and families tend to put the monthly recording at the weekend.

Mirdif and Al Warqa

Mixed Indian, British and IB catchments inside a short radius, and a high proportion of students carrying the school's mandatory Arabic stream alongside Hindi. This is the part of the city where total weekly language minutes most often turn out to be higher than anyone had counted.

International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Long bus journeys into the school clusters further west, so a Diploma student is often home late and tired. Short, frequent sessions work better here than one long evening block, particularly for script accuracy work that depends on concentration.

Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan

Apartment communities with large family networks nearby, which helps spoken fluency and masks reading weakness almost completely. Families here are often surprised by a low receptive-paper mock score, because every social signal suggested the Hindi was strong.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Villa communities with easier weekend mornings and heavily committed weekday evenings. Saturday sessions suit the slower work: copy-correction, reading unfamiliar text types and the sustained writing practice the Extended Essay in Hindi requires.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Frequent international travel in and out of term time, which leaves specific topic gaps rather than general weakness. The coverage list and the error log are what make those gaps findable instead of being mistaken for a general decline.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Nad Al Sheba, Mirdif and the eastern school corridor

Schools in this belt draw heavily from Dubai's Indian expatriate communities, so a Hindi B set here may be larger than elsewhere in the city and still contain three distinct starting points. Students we support attend schools across this corridor.

A photograph of two handwritten paragraphs on an ordinary topic tells a Hindi B teacher more than any description of how the subject is going, because matra placement, nukta and conjunct handling are all visible in it and none of them are visible in conversation or in a typed message.

  2. 02

    Name the pre-Diploma route

CBSE class 10 Hindi, Cambridge IGCSE Hindi as a Second Language, MYP Hindi by phase, or household Hindi with no formal schooling. Each produces a different profile and a different first six weeks. It is the fact families most often leave out and the one that changes the plan most.

  3. 03

One diagnostic hour before any teaching

A handwritten task, a timed reading section on an unfamiliar text type, and a short unprepared spoken turn, marked and returned with the error classes named. No teaching happens until that evidence exists, and the diagnostic is yours to keep whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

Split script work from register work from the receptive clinic

Script accuracy runs as short frequent sessions and finishes. Register and written task discipline runs fortnightly across a term. The receptive clinic sits near the February break. Three jobs with three natural lengths uses fewer hours than one weekly slot running for two years.

  5. 05

Review on error counts, and stop what has finished

A monthly count by error class, so cleared classes can be dropped from the plan rather than kept in it. When the script work is done, the hours go to the receptive paper or they stop. A match that is not producing movement is replaced, and where fewer hours is the honest answer we say so.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Diagnosis from handwriting, not from conversation

Household fluency hides every one of the errors Hindi B penalises. A handwritten sample, a timed reading section and one unprepared spoken turn locate the real problem in an hour, and the finding is written in terms a parent can take to the next school meeting.

The hours go where the weighting is

Half the Hindi B grade sits in the receptive paper, which attracts the least attention because comprehension practice feels less like a lesson than talking does. We put the time there and say so when a family asks for conversation instead, including when that means recommending fewer hours.

Script work treated as a finite job

Matra, nukta, anusvara and conjunct errors are motor and perceptual, they respond to short frequent practice, and they finish. We run them as a block with error counts per class and then stop, rather than keeping a weekly slot alive after the problem has cleared.

Accurate about the routes and the rules

Hindi B does not contribute to the bilingual diploma; Hindi A can. CBSE Hindi does not map onto Group 2 functional writing. Equivalency is a documentary process nobody tutors for, and the published British-track rule is five IGCSE or GCSE subjects, not six. We would rather correct these early than let them surface in DP2.

Honest about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no regulator or examination-board approval claimed, no promised grades, no statistic without a date and a source, and no IB exam date because none could be verified for this project. The limits of what a tutor may do with assessed work are stated plainly rather than left vague.

Reachable specialists rather than nearby ones

There are many Hindi speakers in Dubai and few teachers who mark Devanagari against the Group 2 band descriptors. Online one-to-one on Gulf Standard Time widens the pool to whoever is genuinely free at that hour, with the marked work and the error log kept in one shared file.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

My child speaks Hindi at home — will IB Hindi B be an easy subject?+

Often not, and the reason is specific. Hindi B assesses writing in Devanagari to an academic standard, reading unfamiliar text under timing, listening to speakers the student has never heard, and sustaining a recorded discussion in a register most households do not use. Conversational fluency covers one of those four. The usual pattern is a strong Individual Oral beside a weak receptive paper and an inconsistent written task, which is how a confident Hindi speaker ends up at a 4. Send a handwritten paragraph with any enquiry; it reveals more than a description of how fluent the child sounds.

Is Hindi B offered at Higher Level, and what does that add?+

Yes, Hindi B is examined at both Standard and Higher Level. Higher Level adds two literary works originally written in Hindi, longer written responses, denser reading texts, and an Individual Oral built on an unseen extract from one of the works rather than on a visual stimulus. For a household speaker who has never read extended Hindi prose, that is a reading commitment rather than a language one, and it needs a schedule running from DP1. Where reading stamina is the problem, Standard Level done thoroughly usually produces a better Diploma total.

How much do Devanagari handwriting errors actually cost in Hindi B?+

Enough to move a grade, which surprises families because the errors are invisible in speech. The recurring ones are matras placed by habit rather than rule, nukta dropped where it distinguishes one word from another, anusvara and chandrabindu used interchangeably, and conjunct consonants avoided. Each is a small deduction and they accumulate across a written task. They are also the fastest thing in the subject to repair: short daily dictation, copy-correction of the student's own handwriting, and a weekly retest clears most of the pattern within a term.

What is the difference between Hindi B and Hindi A in the IB Diploma?+

Hindi B is a Group 2 language acquisition course assessing functional writing, listening, reading and an oral. Hindi A: Language and Literature is a Group 1 course for first-language speakers, taught as literary and textual analysis, and it is the only Hindi route that can contribute towards the bilingual diploma. The deciding factor between them is reading stamina in extended Hindi prose rather than how fluently the student speaks. Few Dubai schools timetable Hindi A; some can offer it as a school-supported self-taught Standard Level option, which deserves a frank conversation first.

My child studied CBSE Hindi until class 10 — where does that leave them in Hindi B?+

Usually ahead on handwritten Devanagari and literary comprehension, and behind on the functional text types Group 2 rewards: the formal letter, the article, the report, the blog. CBSE's Hindi courses are literature-weighted and examined differently, so the transition work is register flexibility and text type range rather than a reconstruction of the language. That is typically a term of fortnightly marked writing. Naming the pre-Diploma route in a first enquiry is the single most useful fact a Dubai family can give a Hindi B tutor.

Which register should a Hindi B student use in the written task?+

Whichever the text type requires, maintained consistently across the whole piece. The commonest loss is not ignorance of the system but drift: a formal letter that opens correctly, relaxes by the third paragraph and finishes in the voice the student uses with a cousin. An examiner reads that as weak control of the language. The second commonest is uniform over-formality that misses the conventions of an informal text type. The practice that works is writing the same content twice in two registers and marking both for consistency.

Does taking Hindi B count towards the IB bilingual diploma?+

No. The bilingual diploma rests on two Group 1 language and literature subjects, or a Group 3 or Group 4 subject studied and assessed in a language other than the student's Group 1 language, subject to the IB's own grade requirements. Group 2 acquisition courses do not qualify, however strong the student's Hindi is. Hindi A: Language and Literature can contribute, which is one reason the placement conversation with the Diploma coordinator is worth having in DP1 rather than discovering the rule in the final year.

Will Hindi B help with UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency is a documentary assessment of a school-leaving certificate and no tutoring is required for it. For the British track the published rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A Level at no less than E or two AS Levels at the same grade. For the IB Diploma, no points threshold appears on a source this project could verify, so none is published here. Check moe.gov.ae or the relevant attestation authority directly rather than relying on a tutoring site.

Can Hindi B lessons work over video when the script has to be handwritten?+

Yes, and the handwriting requirement is exactly why the arrangement has to be set up properly. The student writes by hand on paper, photographs the page, and uploads it; the tutor annotates the image and both look at the same marked script on a shared screen. What does not work is typing practice, because an input method silently corrects some of the very errors the exam penalises. Any provider who runs Hindi B writing practice entirely in a typed document is training the wrong skill, whatever the format of the lesson.

Where do Hindi B students lose marks in the receptive paper?+

On inference questions and on unfamiliar text types. A household Hindi speaker has recognition vocabulary that looks adequate and then collapses on an editorial, a public notice or a formal letter, because nothing in daily conversation uses those conventions. The listening section catches a second gap: speakers whose accent and vocabulary sit outside the family's own. The fix is volume plus timed practice on text the student has not met before, concentrated near the February break rather than spread thinly across two years.

What can one 60-minute Hindi B session realistically fix before a mock?+

Discrete, rule-based things with a visible effect on the next piece of work: a personal nukta list for the words that matter to this student, the anusvara and chandrabindu rule, the structure of a formal letter in Hindi, the reading-paper question types that reward scanning rather than close reading, and timing discipline for the oral so the discussion is not crushed. What one session cannot do is build reading fluency, listening tolerance or structural range. Those are accumulation problems measured in terms, and any provider implying otherwise three weeks out is selling reassurance.

Does my child need Hindi B tuition if the school already requires Arabic?+

That is a question about total load rather than about either subject. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students, and KHDA calculates the instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit. Add English and a Group 2 language and a Diploma student may already be in language lessons for a large share of the week. Count those minutes before adding anything, and treat Arabic and Hindi as separate problems with separate specialists.

Does IB Gram send a Hindi tutor to homes in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Hindi B teaching reaches Dubai families as one-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with handwritten work photographed, annotated and kept in a shared file alongside the error log. The trade is favourable for this subject: Dubai has a great many Hindi speakers and relatively few teachers who mark Devanagari against the Group 2 band descriptors, and proximity is the wrong filter to apply when the pool is that narrow.

How many Hindi B sessions a week do Dubai Diploma students usually take?+

The shape matters more than the count. Script accuracy wants short sessions three times a week for a few weeks and then stops, because it is a motor skill that responds to spacing. Register and written task work wants one fortnightly session with a marked piece in between. The receptive clinic is a short intensive block near the February break. Run that way, most students use fewer total hours across the two Diploma years than they would with a single weekly slot held open from DP1 to the final term.

Can a Hindi B tutor help with an Extended Essay written in Hindi?+

Within the limits that apply to all supervised coursework, yes. A tutor may help frame a researchable question, discuss how to evaluate sources, explain the assessment criteria, and give feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph into the draft, or produce finished work. The supervision itself belongs to the school. One practical point: writing 4,000 words in Devanagari is a stamina skill in its own right, and students who have only ever written short pieces should practise length well before the first draft deadline.

Start from the handwriting, not the conversation

Hindi B marks fluent speakers down for reasons that never appear in speech: matras placed by habit, register drifting mid-piece, and a reading paper full of text types no household uses. All three are diagnosable in an hour and the script work is finite. Send a photograph of two handwritten Hindi paragraphs, the pre-Diploma route your child came from, the level, the school and the weekly windows that survive the school run. You will get a named Hindi B teacher, a slot on Gulf Standard Time, and a 30-minute trial lesson at no charge. Teaching runs online, one-to-one, with no home visits in the UAE.
