IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai Marina

Families hiring an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Marina almost always want the same reassurance before they pay: that this person works from the Structure and Reactivity course their child is actually sitting rather than from the numbered topics they themselves remember. This page gives you the means to check that for yourself. It maps the course, names where chemistry marks genuinely go, and states plainly that lessons reach a Marina household one to one over live video.

  • Taught against the Structure and Reactivity organisation of the current guide
  • Mechanism and reaction-pathway work drilled on paper, step by step
  • Mole and limiting-reagent calculations taught as a method, not a formula
  • Free trial lesson spent on a question your child already got wrong

How to check a chemistry tutor without taking their word for it

The question underneath this search is one of verification rather than availability. There is no shortage of people in Dubai who will teach Diploma chemistry. There is a shortage of ways for a parent who did not study chemistry to tell which of them knows the course their child is sitting. So this page is written to be used rather than read: it sets out what the current course contains, in the language the current guide uses, so that you can put three or four specific questions to anybody you are considering and judge the answers yourself.

The first check is organisational. Diploma chemistry content is now arranged under two headings, Structure and Reactivity, each with three numbered strands. Structure covers models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Ask a prospective tutor to describe the course and listen for that shape. Somebody who answers with a list of eleven numbered topics and a set of options is describing a course that is no longer the one being examined.

The second check is diagnostic. Ask where students on this course lose marks, and the answer should be specific enough to act on. Organic mechanism arrows drawn from the wrong place. Mole calculations where the limiting reagent was never identified. Equilibrium questions answered by reciting Le Chatelier instead of reasoning about the equilibrium constant. Energetics questions where the sign convention collapses. Explanations written as descriptions. A tutor who answers with 'the harder topics' has told you they have not marked enough of this paper.

The third check concerns the internally assessed investigation, because that is where the rules matter most and where the market behaves worst. A tutor may teach the chemistry, explain what the criteria reward, discuss whether a proposed investigation can generate data worth analysing, and comment on a draft your child has written. A tutor may not design it, write it or edit it to completion. One provider in this SERP sells completed internal assessments as a product; the consequence of buying one falls on the student and can reach the whole diploma. Ask the question directly and listen for a direct answer.

Finally, the delivery, since the search phrase implies something we do not offer. IB Gram does not send a chemistry tutor to a Marina address, and does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we offer only in India. Diploma chemistry tuition for UAE families is one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. On a subject where the right tutor might be the one person in the emirate who has marked three hundred organic mechanism questions, removing the travel radius is the point rather than a compromise.

At a glance

  • Content sits under Structure 1-3 and Reactivity 1-3 in the current guide
  • Organic mechanisms and mole calculations are the two biggest sources of lost marks
  • The data booklet provides some relationships and not others; know which
  • A tutor coaches the investigation and never writes any part of it
  • Delivery is one to one over live video, not at a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry around the Marina cluster is taught on two parallel senior routes and reached through two different middle-years systems. Knowing which combination your child is on tells you what the next assessment actually asks for.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Chemistry

Two years at Standard or Higher Level, assessed on two written papers plus an internally assessed scientific investigation. The content is organised under Structure and Reactivity rather than numbered topics, and Higher Level extends the same strands further rather than adding separate ones. A data booklet is provided in the examination; confirm with the school which papers it is available for in your child's session.

Chemistry Higher Level is the subject most Marina households are reluctant to drop, because medical and pharmacy routes commonly expect it. That makes the April or May level decision in the first Diploma year unusually tense here, and it makes an evidenced diagnostic before that point more valuable in chemistry than in almost any other subject.

ALAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

A Level Chemistry, the parallel senior route

Offered by the British-curriculum sixth forms in the same communities. Content overlap with Diploma chemistry is substantial but the assessment is differently shaped: more extended calculation, a different treatment of practical skills, and no internally assessed investigation of the Diploma kind. A student transferring between the two mid-course needs the differences taught rather than discovered.

Several families in this cluster are choosing between an IB sixth form in the Meadows or Al Sufouh and an A Level sixth form a short distance inland, for the same child, in the same term. The chemistry comparison usually comes down to whether the student prefers sustained calculation or breadth across six subjects, and it is worth taking advice on before the Year 11 options form is signed.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

The route into Diploma chemistry in continuum schools. Assessment is against four criteria per subject group rather than by examination, and the quantitative demand is lower than Diploma chemistry assumes. Students arriving from MYP are usually comfortable with scientific writing and underprepared for stoichiometry.

The specific gap we see from Marina continuum schools is the mole. MYP sciences can be completed strongly without ever having to carry a two-step mole calculation reliably, and Diploma chemistry requires exactly that from the first month. It is a short, closeable gap if it is identified in the summer rather than in a December test.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the entry route

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 are the usual codes in British-curriculum schools near the Marina. Extended or Higher tier is effectively the prerequisite for Diploma chemistry at Higher Level, because the mole work, the electrolysis products and the organic series naming assumed in Year 12 sit in the Extended content rather than the Core.

A student who sat Core tier chemistry and then joins a Diploma school in Year 12 carries a specific, identifiable gap rather than a general weakness. An hour of diagnostic work will name it. Closing it over a summer is straightforward; discovering it in a November assessment is expensive and demoralising.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry marks are lost in identifiable places. Below is each part of the course that generates enquiries from this cluster, what Higher Level adds to it, and the error that recurs most often in marked work rather than a general note on difficulty.

The mole and stoichiometry

SL and HL

Moles from mass, from concentration and from gas volume, with limiting reagents, percentage yield and atom economy. The dominant error is attempting a two-step calculation without first identifying which reagent limits it. Students who can state the definition of a mole still lose whole questions here, which is why this strand is worth drilling before anything else.

Atomic structure and electron configuration

SL, extended at HL

Isotopes, mass spectra, ionisation energies and electron configuration. At Higher Level the treatment of orbitals and the explanation of ionisation energy patterns go further, and the marks sit in explanations that reference shielding and nuclear charge rather than in reciting the order of filling.

Bonding and structure

SL, extended at HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic models, intermolecular forces, and the relationship between structure and physical properties. The reliable failure is explaining a boiling point by naming a force without saying which particles it acts between. Higher Level adds formal charge and a fuller treatment of hybridisation.

Periodicity

SL and HL

Trends across periods and down groups, and the chemistry of selected groups. Trend questions are marked for the explanation rather than the direction, and a student who knows atomic radius decreases across a period but cannot say why in terms of nuclear charge and shielding scores partially.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL, extended at HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies and calorimetry. The sign convention is where most marks go, followed by using mean bond enthalpies where a Hess cycle was required. Higher Level adds entropy and spontaneity, where the arithmetic is simple and the reasoning is not.

Kinetics

SL, extended at HL

Collision theory, rate measurement and the effect of temperature and catalysts. At Higher Level rate equations, order of reaction from data, and the Arrhenius relationship appear, and the commonest loss is determining order by inspection rather than from the data as presented.

Equilibrium

SL, extended at HL

Dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier's principle and the equilibrium constant. The failure pattern is answering a quantitative question qualitatively: a student recites Le Chatelier where the question required reasoning about the magnitude of the equilibrium constant, which earns little.

Acids, bases and proton transfer

SL, extended at HL

Strong and weak acids, pH, titration curves and indicators. Higher Level adds buffers and the calculations around them. Titration curve questions reward precise reading of the equivalence point and the half-equivalence point, and both are routinely misidentified.

Redox and electron transfer

SL, extended at HL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrochemical cells and electrolysis. Balancing half-equations in acidic conditions is a mechanical skill that improves rapidly with supervised practice. At Higher Level electrode potentials and the calculation of cell potential appear and the sign conventions cause the usual trouble.

Organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms

SL, extended substantially at HL

Functional groups, nomenclature, reaction pathways and, at Higher Level, the mechanisms themselves with curly arrows. This is the single largest source of enquiries from this cluster. Marks are lost on arrows drawn from the wrong origin, missing lone pairs, missing charges and incorrectly represented intermediates.

Measurement, uncertainty and data

Both levels

Significant figures, absolute and percentage uncertainty, and the evaluation of experimental error. Examined directly in the data-based section and essential to the investigation. It is under-taught relative to the marks it carries and it responds quickly to focused work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Chemistry support takes three shapes, all of them one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The choice depends on which part of the course is failing, and the free trial exists to establish that rather than to sell a package.

A short calculation block

Four to eight sessions aimed only at the quantitative strands: moles, limiting reagents, titration arithmetic, energetics sign conventions and, at Higher Level, rate equations and equilibrium constant work. For a student whose written chemistry is sound and whose calculations collapse, this is the most efficient purchase available and it has a visible end point.

  • Method taught as a sequence, not as a set of formulae to recall
  • Limiting reagent identified before any calculation begins, every time
  • Sign conventions in energetics drilled until they stop being a coin toss
  • Ends when the block ends; no standing commitment

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

A dedicated run through functional groups, reaction pathways and, at Higher Level, the mechanisms with curly arrows drawn on paper and checked line by line. Mechanisms are a drawing skill as much as a chemistry one, and they are learned by producing them under correction rather than by watching them produced.

  • Arrows checked for origin, destination, lone pairs and charges
  • Reaction pathways built as a map the student can reproduce from memory
  • Intermediates drawn explicitly rather than implied
  • Past question stems used so the phrasing becomes familiar

Fortnightly pacing through the Diploma

A slot every two weeks that follows the school's own teaching order, intended to catch misconceptions in the term they are formed rather than in the final year. Chemistry is cumulative in a specific way: a shaky grasp of bonding in Structure 2 reappears in organic chemistry, in energetics and in the data-based questions.

  • Follows the school's scheme of work rather than imposing another order
  • Reviewed at the April or May level decision in the first Diploma year
  • Uncertainty and significant-figure habits built early
  • Written note after each session naming the next priority

Structure and Reactivity: the shape of the current course

The current Diploma chemistry guide organises content under two headings with three strands each, and knowing them is the fastest way to establish whether somebody is describing your child's course. Structure 1 covers models of the particulate nature of matter, which is where the mole lives. Structure 2 covers models of bonding and structure. Structure 3 covers the classification of matter, including the periodic table and the organic functional groups. Reactivity 1 asks what drives chemical reactions and holds the energetics content. Reactivity 2 asks how much, how fast and how far, which brings together stoichiometry, kinetics and equilibrium. Reactivity 3 asks what the mechanisms of chemical change are, covering proton transfer, electron transfer and the electron-sharing reactions that include the organic mechanisms.

That arrangement is not cosmetic. It deliberately links ideas that the older numbered topics kept apart, which changes how questions are set. A Reactivity 2 question can legitimately require stoichiometry, a rate argument and an equilibrium judgement in a single item, and a student taught the three as separate units will handle each part competently and fail to connect them. A tutor who teaches to the current structure prepares for that; one working from an older topic list usually does not.

Higher Level extends the same strands rather than adding new ones, and the table below indicates where that extension causes the most trouble. Use it to orient yourself, not as a specification: the authoritative document is the subject guide your child's school issues, and the IB publishes its own course information at ibo.org. Ask the school for its scheme of work as well, because the order in which strands are taught varies and a tutor should follow the school rather than lead it.

Organic chemistry: the arrows are worth more than the theory

  • Mechanism marks attach to arrow origin, destination, intermediates and charges
  • Drawing under correction is the only format that fixes an arrow habit
  • Reaction pathways are better learned as a reproducible map than as a list
  • Higher Level organic extension is where the Standard to Higher gap is widest

Organic chemistry generates more enquiries from this cluster than any other part of the course, and the reason is specific. At Higher Level the mechanisms are examined as drawings, and drawing is a skill distinct from understanding. A student can explain nucleophilic substitution fluently in words and still lose most of the marks on the mechanism because the curly arrow starts at the wrong place, the lone pair is not shown, a charge is missing, or the intermediate is implied rather than drawn.

Markschemes for mechanisms are itemised. Marks attach to the arrow origin, to the arrow destination, to the representation of the intermediate and to the charges. A student who has never had their own mechanism marked against that itemisation does not know which of those four they are getting wrong, and no amount of re-reading the textbook will tell them. This is a correction problem, and correction needs somebody watching the pen.

The method that works is unglamorous and it is why chemistry suits one-to-one video better than parents expect. The student draws the mechanism on paper or on a shared whiteboard, the tutor watches it being produced rather than seeing the finished product, and the error is caught at the moment it is made. Then the student draws it again. After twenty mechanisms the arrows go to the right places without conscious effort, and that transfers to mechanisms the student has not seen before, which is the actual test.

The second organic skill worth naming is the reaction pathway. Examiners ask for a route from one compound to another, and the student needs a mental map of which reagents and conditions effect which conversion. That map is memorisation, but it is structured memorisation, and building it as a diagram the student can reproduce is far more durable than learning a list. For a Marina student with a full Diploma week, a map that can be redrawn in ninety seconds before a paper is worth more than a revision guide.

03

Three kinds of chemistry question, three different failures

Parents often describe the problem as 'chemistry', when in fact a marked paper will show the losses concentrated in one of three distinct question types, each needing a different response. Treating all three with the same weekly hour of general revision is why a term of tutoring can pass without the grade moving.

The first type is the calculation. It demands method discipline: identify what is given, identify the limiting factor, work in a fixed sequence, keep full precision until the final line. Failures here are procedural rather than conceptual, and they respond to drilling within a few sessions. The second type is the explanation. It demands command-term discipline and a stated mechanism: explain requires why, not what, and an answer that restates the observation scores as a description. The third type is the data question. It demands uncertainty handling, graph reading and the confidence to interpret an unfamiliar experiment, which is a skill set rather than a body of knowledge.

The practical consequence is that the first session should be spent on your child's own marked script and nothing else. Twenty minutes with a real paper will place the losses into those three buckets, and the bucket determines everything: how many sessions, what they contain, and how progress should be measured. A student whose losses are all in bucket one may need six sessions and no more. A student whose losses are spread across all three has a content problem underneath, and that is a longer job honestly described.

The table below sets out the three types side by side with the fix for each. It is also a reasonable thing to hand to a prospective tutor and ask which bucket they think your child is in, because the answer will tell you whether they have looked at the evidence.

THE THREE CHEMISTRY QUESTION TYPES AND WHAT EACH FAILURE ACTUALLY NEEDS
Question typeWhat it demandsHow the failure looks on a scriptWhat fixes it, and roughly how fast

04

The data booklet: what is given and what must be in your child's head

A surprising amount of chemistry anxiety comes from students not knowing what the examination will provide. A data booklet is supplied, containing constants, selected relationships, the periodic table and reference data. Which papers it is available for, and exactly what it contains, should be confirmed with your child's teacher for the session they are sitting rather than taken from any website, including this one. What is worth saying generally is that the booklet is not a formula sheet for everything, and the gap between what it gives and what a student assumed it gives is a reliable source of panic in the hall.

The useful exercise, and one a tutor should do in an early session, is to go through the booklet with the student and mark it up: this is given, this is not, this is given in a form that still needs rearranging. A student who has done that once sits the paper knowing where to look and, more importantly, knowing what they have to carry in. The definitions, the sign conventions, the solubility and colour observations and the organic reagent and condition pairs are generally in the second category.

There is a related point about resources that belongs here. Subject guides, past papers and markschemes are IB copyright, distributed through schools and the IB's own channels. A tutoring provider should not be handing you a private library of them, and if a provider's main selling point is exactly that, it is worth asking how else they operate. Work from the material your child's school supplies and reference the IB's published course information at ibo.org.

The table below is a practical division rather than a reproduction of anything: it names the categories of information, whether they are typically provided, and what to do about each. Confirm the specifics for your child's session with their teacher.

Chemistry at Higher Level, and what medical routes actually expect

Chemistry Higher Level is carried by a lot of Marina students who do not especially enjoy it, because of what it keeps open. Medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary routes commonly expect chemistry at Higher Level, frequently paired with biology, and that expectation is the reason the level decision in the first Diploma year is more fraught in this subject than in any other. Dropping to Standard Level is sometimes the right academic decision and it can close doors the student has not yet decided whether they want.

The honest advice is to separate two questions that families tend to merge. The first is whether the student can achieve a reasonable grade at Higher Level with support, which is an evidence question answerable from a marked paper and a diagnostic session. The second is whether the stated ambition genuinely requires it, which is a question for the school's university counsellor and for the published entry requirements of the specific courses and countries in view, because they differ. Answering the second question first often changes the first one.

What tutoring can legitimately contribute is the evidence rather than the decision. A short diagnostic block before April or May of Year 12 establishes whether the losses are procedural, which is fixable within weeks, or conceptual across several strands, which is a longer job. That turns an anxious guess into an informed choice, and it is useful whichever way the choice then goes. It is also the point at which the honest answer is sometimes that Standard Level plus a strong grade serves the student better than Higher Level plus a struggle.

On the UAE side, recognition of a Diploma for local university entry runs through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process and not through any tutoring provider. The Ministry's published British-track requirement is specific: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. No equivalent IB points figure has been verified from the Ministry's own publications, so treat any such number you see quoted on a tutoring site as unverified and check the current requirement with the Ministry or the emirate attestation authority directly. Tutoring is not required for equivalency and nobody should suggest otherwise.

06

What chemistry tuition costs here, and what you can verify yourself

Everything in this section is checkable, which is the point of presenting it this way. Each figure below was published by the provider named and recorded in October 2026, and you can open their pages and confirm it rather than take our word for it. That matters because three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

At the entry level, EdFlik advertises tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. In the qualified-tutor band, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150, and TutorChase lists AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 with home tutors reaching AED 500, and BartyED quotes AED 650 at the named end. Monthly estimates in that same table run AED 240 to 600 for a weekly budget session, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packaged offers seen in the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions.

Two further things are worth verifying before you commit to anybody. Whether a quoted rate includes VAT, because the published figures are inconsistent on that and the difference compounds across two Diploma years. And what the rate includes beyond the hour: marking of written answers against the published wording, a session note, and a replacement if the match fails are either in the price or they are not, and they are worth more than a twenty or thirty dirham difference in the rate.

For context rather than persuasion, it is worth knowing that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are the larger number in any family's education budget, and a tutoring decision sits inside that context rather than beside it. IB Gram publishes no rate card on these pages; the figures above belong to other providers, and the honest starting point is a free trial lesson and a realistic estimate of how many sessions the diagnosed problem actually needs.

07

Examiner claims, qualifications, and the questions worth asking a provider

  • Ask where marks go on your child's paper rather than whether somebody has examined
  • A self-published star rating is a warning sign rather than evidence
  • No tutoring provider is KHDA, ADEK, IB, Cambridge or Pearson accredited; ask for the document if claimed
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, lasts two years, and is a fair question to ask

This market has a vocabulary problem that works against parents. Tutors are routinely described as examiners, and the claim is impossible for a family to check and rarely qualified with a date or a board. Current examiner status, where it genuinely exists, does not come with access to marking in progress, to grade boundaries or to unreleased paper content, and any suggestion otherwise should end the conversation. The useful question is not whether somebody has examined but whether they can tell you where marks go on your child's specific paper, which is a question they either answer in detail or do not.

Self-asserted ratings are the second thing to treat carefully. One competitor in this market publishes its own aggregate rating of 4.9 in its structured data; another displays two different review totals on the same page; a third shows five stars from twenty reviews beside a student-numbers claim orders of magnitude larger. Review markup a provider has generated about itself is against Google's own structured-data policy and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, it is a consumer-protection exposure. A provider that publishes no rating is being more careful than one that publishes an unverifiable one.

The third thing is accreditation language. No tutoring company should describe itself or its tutors as approved, accredited, licensed or partnered by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson unless it holds the specific thing it names and can show the document. A KHDA Educational Services Permit, for instance, is a particular permit issued to training institutes with premises, requiring initial approval first, with a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram does not hold one and does not claim one. Nor do we operate a UAE office or centre.

What a parent can reasonably verify is the permit position for the individual. Private tutoring in the UAE requires the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, with eligibility extending to registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so disregard specific amounts quoted at you. Ask the question; a permitted tutor will not mind it.

08

The investigation, and the one question that separates honest providers

Every family with a Diploma chemistry student eventually asks what help is allowed with the internally assessed investigation, and the answer is the clearest test of a provider you will find. The supervisor of record is your child's school teacher, who confirms the work is the student's own. A tutor operates outside that relationship and must stay outside it.

Legitimate help is substantial. A tutor can teach the chemistry the investigation rests on, explain what each criterion rewards and in what language, discuss whether a proposed research question will produce data that can actually be analysed, teach uncertainty treatment and graph work, and read a draft the student has written in order to give feedback the student then acts on. In chemistry specifically, the viability conversation is where most value sits: students choose investigations with a dependent variable that barely moves across the available range, or that require equipment the school does not have, and three weeks can go into that before it becomes obvious.

Illegitimate help is easy to describe. Choosing the research question. Designing the procedure. Processing the data. Drafting, rewriting or editing any part of the report. A provider that offers any of those is offering academic malpractice, and the sanction falls on the student rather than the seller and can reach the whole diploma rather than the single subject. One provider in this market sells completed internal assessments outright. Ask any prospective tutor the direct question about drafts, and treat a hedged answer as the answer.

There is a version of this question that is harder and worth asking too: what will you do if my child sends you a draft two days before the deadline and asks you to fix it? The honest answer is that the tutor will give feedback the student has to implement themselves, and that two days may not be enough time for that to help. A provider who promises to turn it around has told you exactly what they are selling.

Where we tutor

Communities served by this page

Chemistry enquiries from this part of Dubai have a particular shape, because so many of the students involved are aiming at medical, pharmacy or dentistry routes. The notes below cover what differs between the communities rather than what they have in common.

JBR

Diploma students here are concentrated in the Al Sufouh and Meadows schools, so chemistry mock weeks and investigation deadlines arrive simultaneously across the beachfront towers.

JLT

Feeds both IB and A Level sixth forms, which means a JLT household is often comparing Diploma chemistry Higher Level with A Level Chemistry for the same child in the same term.

The Greens and The Views

A common transfer point at 16 from an IGCSE school into a Diploma school, which is precisely where a Core-tier chemistry background becomes visible.

The Springs and The Meadows

Beside a long-established continuum school, so students here more often arrive into Diploma chemistry from MYP sciences, with the mole as the first obstacle rather than the concepts.

Emirates Hills

The highest concentration in the cluster of students carrying chemistry and biology both at Higher Level for medical applications, which makes the weekly timetable genuinely tight.

Al Sufouh

Senior schools sit here and laboratory clubs run late, so a chemistry session often has to be placed after 6:30pm on two days of the week.

Bluewaters Island

One causeway in and out. For a subject where the right tutor may be a single specialist, a lesson that needs no journey is the difference between a weekday slot and none.

Palm Jumeirah

Long internal distances mean a visiting tutor loses time at both ends. Households here report the largest practical gain from a session that follows the laptop.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Marina

Diploma chemistry in and around the Marina cluster

The Diploma schools most often named on chemistry enquiries from this area. Higher Level chemistry sets in these schools are frequently small, which is why asking other parents in the year group rarely turns up a specialist.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills

A Level chemistry schools serving the same communities

The sixth forms a Marina family is usually comparing against the Diploma route. Chemistry content overlaps heavily between the two but the assessment shape does not, and a mid-course transfer needs the difference taught explicitly.

  • Regent International School
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School
  • Brighton College Dubai
  • Repton School Al Barsha

Schools are named only to describe the senior-school landscape around this neighbourhood; IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or contract with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the level and a marked script

Standard or Higher Level, which strands the school has taught, and a photograph of a recent marked chemistry paper. The script is the single most useful thing you can send, because it sorts the losses into calculations, explanations, mechanisms and data questions, and each of those needs a different response.

  2. 02

Say which evening is genuinely free

A Higher Level chemistry student in a Dubai school often also carries Higher Level biology or maths, plus the mandatory UAE subjects, plus laboratory clubs that run late. Give the quietest evening and a backup, and name the days that are already committed, so the slot is not placed where it will be cancelled.

  3. 03

Use the trial to sort the losses

One free session spent on questions your child already got wrong rather than on introductions. By the end you should have a written note placing the losses into categories and naming what the first few sessions will target. If the honest answer is six calculation sessions and nothing more, that is what the note will say.

  4. 04

Buy a block with an end point

Chemistry problems are often narrow enough to fix in a defined number of sessions. A calculation block or an organic mechanism block has a visible finish, which makes it far easier to judge than an open weekly commitment. Where the problem really is broad, we will say that instead.

  5. 05

Review at the level decision and each mock

The April or May Higher to Standard Level decision and every mock afterwards are the review points. The target list is rewritten from the mark breakdown rather than from impressions, and where chemistry has stabilised the sessions stop or move to another subject.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Taught to the current organisation

Tutors work from the Structure and Reactivity strands of the guide your child is sitting. That matters for more than vocabulary: questions in the current style deliberately combine stoichiometry, rate and equilibrium in one item, and a tutor teaching from an older numbered topic list prepares each part separately and misses the connection.

Mechanisms corrected as they are drawn

Organic mechanism marks attach to the arrow origin, the destination, the intermediates and the charges. The only way to fix an arrow habit is to be watched while drawing, which a shared whiteboard does as well as a shared desk, and to then draw it again. About twenty mechanisms under correction is usually enough.

Calculations taught as a sequence

Most calculation losses are procedural: the limiting reagent was never identified, or the rounding happened too early, or the work went straight to the answer. A fixed sequence, drilled, removes the whole category. It is a short job with a visible end point rather than an indefinite commitment.

The investigation line stated in writing

A tutor teaches the chemistry, explains the criteria, tests whether a research question can produce analysable data, and comments on a draft your child wrote. A tutor does not choose, design, process or write. Your child's school teacher remains the supervisor of record and nothing we do touches that.

Every price figure attributed and checkable

The AED rates on this page belong to the providers named and were recorded in October 2026, so you can open their pages and verify them. We publish no rate card here and quote no figure as ours. Three of the best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all.

No journey, and a wider specialist pool

Published in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 online for comparable qualifications, and most of that gap is travel. For Higher Level chemistry the more important effect is that dropping the radius makes a genuine organic specialist reachable on a weekday evening.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Marina: your questions answered

How do I check that a chemistry tutor knows the current Diploma guide?+

Ask them to describe how the course is organised. The answer you want names Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3 and can say what sits in each: the mole in Structure 1, bonding in Structure 2, periodic and organic classification in Structure 3, energetics in Reactivity 1, stoichiometry with rates and equilibrium in Reactivity 2, and the mechanisms in Reactivity 3. Somebody who replies with a list of eleven numbered topics and a set of options is describing the previous arrangement. Then ask where students lose marks on this course, and listen for specifics rather than for a comment about the harder topics.

My son understands organic chemistry but loses marks on the mechanisms. Why?+

Because mechanisms are assessed as drawings and markschemes itemise them. Marks attach to where the curly arrow starts, where it ends, whether the intermediate is drawn rather than implied, and whether the charges and lone pairs are shown. A student can explain nucleophilic substitution fluently in words and lose most of the marks on the drawn mechanism. Re-reading the textbook will not fix it, because he cannot see which of the four elements he is getting wrong. What fixes it is drawing mechanisms while somebody watches the pen and corrects at the moment of the error, then drawing them again.

Where exactly do Diploma chemistry calculations go wrong?+

Most often at the limiting reagent, which simply never gets identified before the arithmetic starts, so the whole calculation runs off the wrong quantity. After that: rounding at an intermediate step, which makes the final accuracy indefensible; sign conventions in energetics, where a student guesses the direction; using mean bond enthalpies where a Hess cycle was required; and answering an equilibrium question qualitatively by reciting Le Chatelier when the question asked about the magnitude of the equilibrium constant. All of these are procedural rather than conceptual, which is good news: a fixed method, drilled over a handful of sessions, removes the category.

Is Higher Level chemistry much harder than Standard Level?+

The gap is widest in two places rather than spread evenly. The organic extension at Higher Level introduces mechanisms in detail, which is a new skill and not simply more content. And the quantitative extensions, meaning rate equations, order from data, equilibrium constant work, electrode potentials and entropy, demand sustained calculation of a kind Standard Level does not require. The pattern we see is a student coping for two terms and then meeting those extensions. That is why a diagnostic before the April or May level decision is worth more in chemistry than in most subjects.

Can a tutor help with my daughter's chemistry investigation?+

Within limits, yes, and the limits matter. A tutor may teach the chemistry it rests on, explain what each criterion rewards, discuss whether the research question can produce data worth analysing, teach uncertainty treatment and graphing, and give feedback on a draft she has written. A tutor may not choose the question, design the procedure, process the data or write any part of the report. Her school teacher is the supervisor of record. We put this in writing before the first session, because at least one provider in this market sells completed internal assessments and the sanction for that falls on the student.

What is the most common mistake in choosing a chemistry investigation?+

Choosing a dependent variable that barely changes across the range the student can actually achieve, or a design that needs equipment the school does not have. Both look fine on paper and both produce data that cannot support a conclusion, usually after three weeks of work. The second most common is an investigation where the uncertainty swamps the effect being measured, which the student only discovers at the analysis stage. Having somebody read the proposal before the practical work begins is the cheapest useful intervention on this component, and discussing viability is advice rather than design, so it stays inside the rules.

What does the chemistry data booklet actually give us?+

Constants, the periodic table, selected relationships and reference data, but not everything a student assumes. Definitions, sign conventions, organic reagents and conditions, and observation and colour facts are generally not provided and have to be carried in. Which papers the booklet is available for, and precisely what it contains, should be confirmed with your child's teacher for the session they are sitting rather than taken from any website. A worthwhile early session is going through the booklet with the student and marking it up: given, not given, and given but still needing rearrangement.

Does chemistry Higher Level matter for a medical application?+

Commonly, yes, and it is the main reason Marina families are reluctant to drop it. Medical, dental, pharmacy and veterinary routes frequently expect chemistry at Higher Level, often with biology alongside. Two questions should be separated, though. Whether your child can achieve a reasonable grade at Higher Level with support is an evidence question, answerable from a marked paper. Whether the stated ambition genuinely requires it is a question for the school's university counsellor and for the published requirements of the specific courses and countries in view, which differ. Answering the second first often changes the first.

What does a Diploma chemistry tutor charge in Dubai, and can I verify it?+

Every figure we quote is attributed so you can check it. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase lists AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above and in-home visits at AED 180 to 350, with home tutors to AED 500, while BartyED quotes AED 650. Those were recorded in October 2026 and are the providers' own figures. IB Gram publishes no rate card on these pages.

Should I be suspicious of a tutor described as an examiner?+

Be careful with it rather than suspicious. Current examiner status, where it genuinely exists, is rarely qualified with a board and a date, and it is almost impossible for a family to verify. It also does not confer access to marking in progress, to grade boundaries or to unreleased paper content, and any suggestion that it does should end the conversation. The more useful question is where marks go on your child's specific paper and why, because that is answerable in detail by anybody who has marked enough of it, examiner or not. Judge the answer, not the label.

Do you send a chemistry tutor to our villa or apartment in the Marina?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and home visiting is a service we run only in India. Diploma chemistry tuition for UAE families is delivered one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For this subject the format is an advantage: Higher Level chemistry sets in Dubai schools are small, the number of people who have marked three hundred organic mechanism questions is smaller, and the subset of those free at 6pm within a short drive of a Marina tower may be nobody at all. The in-home rates quoted on this page are other providers' market figures, not an offer.

My daughter came from MYP sciences and is finding Diploma chemistry hard. What is the gap?+

Almost always the mole. MYP sciences are assessed against criteria and can be completed strongly without ever having to carry a reliable two-step mole calculation, while Diploma chemistry requires exactly that from the first month. The concepts are usually fine and the scientific writing is often better than average; it is the quantitative work that stalls. It is identifiable in one session and closeable in a short block, and the summer between MYP 5 and Year 12 is the cheapest time to do it. Found in a December assessment instead, it costs considerably more to repair.

How many chemistry sessions will my child need?+

It depends entirely on which of four buckets the losses fall into, which a marked script settles in twenty minutes. Procedural calculation losses are often fixed in four to eight sessions and then done. Mechanism drawing is roughly twenty mechanisms under correction. Data and uncertainty work is a focused block of four to six. Explanation and command-term discipline is slower, because it needs volume of marked writing across a term. A student whose losses are spread across all four has a content problem underneath, and that is a longer job that we would describe as such rather than sell as a quick block.

Can one tutor cover chemistry and biology for the same Diploma student?+

Sometimes, but it works less well than parents expect. The two subjects reward different things: biology marks depend heavily on precise terminology and on structured extended writing, while chemistry marks depend on calculation discipline and mechanism drawing. A tutor strong in one is often merely competent in the other, and the weaker half quietly gets less attention. Where both subjects are genuinely weak at Higher Level, two specialists is the honest answer even though it costs more and takes two slots. Chemistry with maths is a better pairing, because the calculation habits transfer directly.

Do tutoring fees in Dubai include VAT, and should I ask?+

You should ask, because the published market figures are not consistent on it and over two Diploma years the difference is material. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a general fact on these pages, because that would need a Federal Tax Authority citation to be worth anything; the useful question is narrower and specific to whoever is quoting you. Ask whether the figure quoted is inclusive, and ask what else is included beyond the hour: marking against the published wording, a written session note, and a replacement if the match fails are either in the price or they are not.

Three questions, one marked script, then decide

You do not need to understand chemistry to choose a chemistry tutor well. Ask how the course is organised and listen for Structure and Reactivity. Ask where students lose marks and listen for specifics rather than for a comment about the harder topics. Ask what they will do if your child sends a draft investigation two days before the deadline, and treat a hedged answer as the answer. Then send a photograph of a recent marked script and take the free trial lesson, which is spent on real lost marks rather than on introductions. Lessons are one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, so the slot can sit where a full Diploma week has room.
