IB Maths Tutor in Dubai Marina

An IB maths tutor in Dubai Marina is one of the more expensive hours a family buys, and the range quoted across this market is wide enough to be genuinely confusing. This page sets out what providers around the Marina actually publish per hour, what each tier buys, and the four places the money usually leaks. Lessons from IB Gram are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the specialist is chosen by syllabus rather than by postcode.

  • Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it
  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled after the Marina school run
  • Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation matched by paper

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Marina

What the hour actually costs, and what it buys

Families in the Marina tend to arrive at maths tuition with a number already in their head, usually something another parent mentioned at a school gate in Al Sufouh or over coffee in JBR. The number is rarely wrong. It is incomplete. A rate of AED 180 an hour and a rate of AED 400 an hour both exist in this market, and they are not the same product. One is a graduate with a strong maths degree who has read the subject guide. The other is someone who has marked scripts at this level and can tell you inside twenty minutes whether your child is losing marks on method, on arithmetic, or on reading the command term.

The second thing worth saying early is that the price of maths tuition around Dubai Marina has less and less to do with where the tutor lives. It used to have everything to do with that, because a tutor driving from Mirdif to a tower on Marina Walk charged for the drive whether the invoice said so or not. Published rates for in-home visits in Dubai sit above online rates at every tier, and travel is the main reason. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, which is an India-only service, so what a Marina family pays covers teaching time rather than a car on Sheikh Zayed Road at six in the evening.

Where the money leaks is more specific than bad tutors. It leaks when a family buys a weekly hour for two years when the student needed a six-week block on sequences, series and binomial expansion before the Year 12 mock. It leaks when nobody checks whether the child sits Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and three sessions go on calculus that the second course does not assess to that depth. It leaks when the mathematics exploration is left until February of the final year and then needs six emergency hours that one conversation in September would have prevented. And it leaks when a general maths tutor is paid specialist rates for content that is really Year 10 algebra.

A Marina week makes some of this worse. Most schools these households attend finish between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and the drive back along Al Khail Road or Sheikh Zayed Road at that hour decides everything after it. A lesson booked at 4pm is a lesson the student arrives at hungry and flat. The same hour at 6:30pm or 7:30pm, after food, returns more per dirham, and over video it costs nothing extra to put it there. Households that travel over Eid or spend part of the summer abroad keep the same tutor and the same slot shifted by a few hours.

So the plan this page recommends is unglamorous. Find out which course and which paper pattern your child sits. Decide whether the problem is content, speed under timed conditions, or the exploration. Buy the smallest block that fits that problem, from someone who can name the criterion they are working on. Review at the end of term and cut it if the need has gone. That is a cheaper two years than a standing weekly order nobody re-examines, and it is usually a better grade as well.

At a glance

  • Published online rates for a qualified subject tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 150–300 an hour; specialist IB-level rates run AED 200–450 and above
  • In-home rates quoted in this market sit higher at every tier, and the drive is the reason
  • The mathematics exploration carries 20% of the grade at both Standard and Higher Level
  • Higher Level candidates sit a third paper; Standard Level candidates do not
  • Analysis and Approaches Paper 1 is sat without a calculator; every Applications and Interpretation paper allows one
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Mathematics runs through every IB programme a Marina family is likely to meet, and the spending question is different at each stage. What follows is what each programme assesses in maths and what a household near the Marina typically needs from an hour of paid support at that point.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Maths in the PYP is taught through units of inquiry rather than as a separate timetabled subject with weekly tests. Number, pattern, measurement, shape and data handling all appear, but they appear inside a transdisciplinary theme, which is why a parent can read a PYP report and still not know whether their child can subtract across a boundary. Paid tutoring at this stage is usually a short diagnostic block rather than a standing weekly hour.

Several Marina and Greens families use PYP schools nearby and then move to a British-curriculum school for Year 7. That switch is where paid maths support earns its money: an incoming Year 7 in Dubai is expected to have secure column arithmetic, times tables to twelve and fraction equivalence, and the PYP report will not have told you whether those are in place.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP Mathematics is marked against four criteria, each out of eight, and splits into Standard and Extended routes in Years 4 and 5. Extended is the route that keeps Higher Level open two years later. A student can sit comfortably in the middle of the class on Criterion A knowing and understanding while scoring poorly on Criterion B investigating patterns, and the resulting grade of 5 hides which half is the problem.

For Marina households the Standard-or-Extended decision in MYP Year 4 is the single most expensive fork in the whole journey. Choosing Standard and later wanting Analysis and Approaches Higher Level means buying a bridging block in the summer before Year 12. Asking the maths coordinator in Term 1 of Year 4 costs nothing and routinely saves a term of paid hours.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Every Diploma candidate takes one of two mathematics courses, each available at Standard or Higher Level. Analysis and Approaches is built on algebra, proof and calculus. Applications and Interpretation is built on modelling, statistics and financial maths. Both carry an internally assessed exploration worth 20%. Higher Level adds a third paper of extended problem solving. The four combinations are genuinely different subjects and need genuinely different tutors.

This is where almost all paid maths tuition in the Marina is bought, and where most of it is bought badly. The common error is hiring on reputation rather than on course: a tutor who is excellent on Analysis and Approaches calculus can be mediocre on Applications and Interpretation statistical tests, because the content barely overlaps. Ask which of the four combinations the tutor has taught most recently.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

An IB maths tutor in Dubai Marina is most often asked for one of the four Diploma combinations, but the subjects that lean hardest on mathematics are booked alongside it almost as often. These are the courses our maths-side specialists cover for students in this area.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and proof, with Paper 1 sat without a calculator. Marks go missing on unshown method, on differentiating a quotient under time pressure, and on candidates who can integrate but cannot say what the integral represents in the context the question set.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics, probability distributions and financial mathematics, with a graphic display calculator permitted throughout. The usual failure is treating it as the easier course: the statistical tests and the modelling questions punish anyone who has not practised writing a conclusion in the language of the context.

Mathematics Higher Level Paper 3

HL only

Two extended-response questions in one hour, each building across several parts so that an early slip propagates. It rewards stamina and structured working rather than new content, which is why it is best treated as a separate block of timed practice in the final two terms rather than as part of a general weekly hour.

The mathematics exploration

HL and SL

A written investigation of around twelve to twenty pages, assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Supervision means helping a student choose a workable question and read the criteria honestly. The mathematics, the writing and the conclusions stay the student's own.

MYP Mathematics, Standard and Extended

Years 4-5

Four criteria out of eight each, converted to a grade from one to seven. Investigating patterns is the criterion that most often drags a Marina student's grade down, because it asks for generalisation and proof of a rule rather than for correct arithmetic, and it is rarely practised at home.

Physics

HL and SL

The Diploma subject most often paired with maths tuition, because the algebra of rearranging equations and the calculus in the fields theme are the real obstacle for many students rather than the physics itself. A maths-led session on logarithmic graph linearisation often moves a physics grade faster than more physics.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Moles, dilution, equilibrium constants and energetics all collapse into proportional reasoning and unit handling. Students who lose marks consistently on calculation questions rarely have a chemistry problem; they have an arithmetic and significant-figures problem that a maths specialist can close in a short block.

Economics

HL and SL

Higher Level adds quantitative content that catches Applications and Interpretation students out less than it catches the ones who dropped maths to Standard Level. Elasticity, marginal analysis and diagram-reading all reward a student who is comfortable with gradients and rates of change.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Discrete structures, Boolean logic, complexity and the Higher Level content on abstract data types sit much closer to Analysis and Approaches than to anything else on the timetable. Students who find recursion opaque are usually missing the mathematical idea of a base case rather than the syntax.

Business Management

HL and SL

The finance and accounts unit is where grades are won and lost, and it is arithmetic: investment appraisal, break-even, working capital and ratio analysis. A student who can set up a payback calculation cleanly picks up marks that a stronger essay writer with weaker numeracy leaves on the table.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying maths support, priced by what the problem actually is. The point of separating them is that the weekly standing order is the right purchase far less often than it is the one families default to.

A six-week block on one named topic

The cheapest useful purchase in this market. You name the topic, the tutor runs a diagnostic in lesson one, teaches for four, and tests under timed conditions in the sixth. Sequences and series, trigonometric identities, integration by substitution and hypothesis testing are the four blocks Marina students buy most.

  • Six hours, with an end date written down before you start
  • A timed past-paper section at the end, marked against the real scheme
  • No commitment past the sixth lesson

Weekly one-to-one through the exam year

Appropriate when the gap is broad rather than topical, or when the student needs the external deadline that a standing appointment creates. Worth re-examining every term rather than renewing by default, because the commonest waste in the Marina is a weekly hour that outlived the problem it was bought for.

  • One fixed slot, usually 6:30pm or 7:30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • A written note of what was covered after each lesson
  • A term-end review that may recommend reducing or stopping

Exploration supervision across a term

Spread thin on purpose: a session to choose a question, one to check the mathematics is deep enough to score on use of mathematics, one on structure, one on reflection, and a last read before the school's internal deadline. The student writes it. The tutor reads criteria and asks awkward questions.

  • Four to six sessions spread over a full term, not a rescue week
  • Criteria read out loud with the student, not summarised for them
  • Every word and every calculation stays the student's own

01

What maths tuition costs around Dubai Marina, tier by tier

Market rates for maths tuition in Dubai run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the bottom to AED 650 at the top, and the spread is not noise. Each band buys something different. The table below collects figures each provider published on its own site, recorded in October 2026, so you can see which part of the market a quote belongs to before you accept or refuse it. These are market rates and not an IB Gram price list; our own figure comes with the consultation, after the free first lesson.

The band that matters for most Diploma families is AED 200 to 450. Below it you are usually buying general maths help from someone who has not taught the course, which can be the right purchase for a Year 8 arithmetic gap and is the wrong one for Paper 3. Above it you are paying scarcity pricing. The premium tier is real and sometimes worth it in the last two terms of Higher Level, but a family paying it from Year 12 Term 1 is spending at the top of the market for work a mid-band specialist does equally well.

One figure in the table deserves separating out. In-home visits are quoted from around AED 180 to 500 an hour, and the gap between that and the equivalent online band is the drive. A tutor coming into a Marina tower spends time on Sheikh Zayed Road, then on parking, then in a lift. Nobody itemises it, but every family in this neighbourhood is paying for it somewhere in the rate. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, which tells you the same story in a different unit.

The four places maths money leaks in a Marina household

  • Diagnose which of the four failure modes applies before booking a single hour
  • Confirm the exact course and level in writing: AA SL, AA HL, AI SL or AI HL
  • Open the exploration conversation in September of the final year, not February
  • Put a review date in the calendar at the same time as the first lesson

The first leak is buying a subject instead of a problem. A parent who books maths tuition has usually diagnosed the symptom, a grade of 4 where a 6 was expected, and left the diagnosis there. Maths at this level fails in at least four distinguishable ways: missing prior content, correct method executed too slowly, correct work presented in a way the mark scheme cannot reward, and an exploration drifting without a question. Each needs a different number of hours and in two of the four cases the right answer is fewer hours, not more.

The second leak is the wrong course. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation share a name and little else at the margins where grades are decided. A tutor who has spent five years on algebraic proof and calculus can be genuinely weak on chi-squared tests and on writing a conclusion about a correlation coefficient. Families pay specialist rates for sessions that drift into content the student's course does not assess, which feels like progress and shows up nowhere in the final grade.

The third leak is timing, and it is the most expensive. An exploration started in September needs four or five calm sessions. The same exploration opened six weeks before the school's internal deadline needs ten anxious ones, and produces a weaker piece of work. The fourth leak is the standing order nobody cancels: a weekly hour booked in Year 11 for a genuine gap, still running in Year 13 after the gap closed, now functioning as supervised homework at AED 300 an hour. Review at the end of every term and the fourth leak closes itself.

03

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation: the choice that sets your bill

Most of the money a Marina family will spend on Diploma maths is determined by a decision made in Year 11, often in a ten-minute conversation about which course looks easier. It is not a question of difficulty. It is a question of which kind of mathematics the student can sustain for two years and which prerequisite their intended degree expects. Engineering and physics courses at competitive universities commonly ask for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level. Business, design and several life-science routes accept Applications and Interpretation. Checking the prerequisite before the choice is free; correcting it afterwards is not.

The tutoring consequence is sharper than the academic one. Because Paper 1 of Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator, that course rewards drilled algebraic fluency in a way nothing else on the Diploma timetable does, and fluency is built by volume of short practice rather than by long explanatory lessons. Applications and Interpretation allows a graphic display calculator on every paper, which moves the difficulty from manipulation to interpretation: knowing which test to run, and writing what the output means in the context of the question.

That is why the same weekly hour produces different value on the two courses. An Analysis and Approaches student often does better with two short sessions a week than one long one. An Applications and Interpretation student usually needs the longer session, because a modelling question cannot be set up, solved and written up in twenty minutes. Ask a prospective tutor which of the four combinations they taught most recently and what they would do differently between them. The answer separates a specialist from a generalist faster than any qualification on a profile.

What each component is worth, and where the marks actually go

Nobody should be paying for maths tuition without knowing the weighting of the thing being tutored. A Standard Level student has two papers and an exploration. A Higher Level student has three papers and an exploration. The exploration is 20% of the grade in both cases, which means it is worth more than a full paper's difference in most grade boundaries and is the single most coachable component on the course, because it is written over months rather than performed in ninety minutes.

The papers fail in patterns, and the patterns are specific enough to buy against. On Paper 1 of Analysis and Approaches, the most common avoidable loss is unshown method: a candidate who knows the answer writes it, and the scheme awards nothing for a correct result reached invisibly. On Paper 2, it is premature rounding and a calculator left in the wrong angle mode, both of which cost accuracy marks across several questions rather than one. On Paper 3 it is time: the second extended question is routinely half-finished by candidates who could have completed it.

The exploration loses marks in a different way again. Presentation and mathematical communication are straightforward to secure with a structured draft. Personal engagement and reflection are where most of the lost marks sit, and they cannot be retrofitted in the last week, because reflection means commenting on decisions the student actually made while making them. Use of mathematics is the largest single block of marks and the one where an ambitious topic pays off, provided the student can genuinely handle the mathematics they have chosen.

One-to-one online against an in-home maths tutor in this area

This comparison is the one most Marina parents are actually making, and it deserves to be made on evidence rather than on instinct. The instinct is that a person in the room is better. Sometimes they are, particularly for a younger child who needs an adult physically redirecting their attention. For a Diploma maths candidate working through a Paper 3 question on a shared screen, the room adds very little and the constraint it imposes costs a great deal.

The constraint is the tutor pool. Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is taught well by a small number of people. If the requirement is that one of them lives close enough to drive to a tower on the Marina on a weekday evening, the shortlist collapses to whoever is available within about twenty minutes, which in practice means whoever is left. Remove the driving requirement and the shortlist becomes everyone who teaches that course on a compatible timezone. That is the whole argument, and it is a stronger one than any claim about technology.

The cost side follows from it. IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses; home visits are a service offered only in India, and every lesson for a Marina family runs one-to-one over live video. What that buys is a rate with no drive inside it, a slot that survives traffic and travel, and shared screen work that still exists the next morning when the student sits down to revise. The table sets the two side by side on the terms that matter in this specific neighbourhood.

Buying by the block instead of by the year

  • Start with six hours and a named topic, not a term
  • Put the review date in the calendar before the first lesson
  • Price the year out in dirhams before committing to it
  • If the purchase is really accountability, hire for that and pay mid-band

A block is six hours with a named topic and an end date. A year is thirty-odd hours with a direction of travel. The block is nearly always the better first purchase, and almost nobody sells it that way, because a standing weekly order is a more comfortable business than a six-week engagement that might not renew. Buy the block first anyway. If the problem survives it, the weekly hour has earned its place and you will know exactly what it is for.

The arithmetic is worth doing in dirhams. Six hours with a specialist in the AED 250 band is about AED 1,500 and a clear answer about whether the gap was content or confidence. A full year at the same rate is somewhere above AED 9,000, and families frequently commit to it without having established which of the four failure modes they are treating. Running the block first does not save money by being cheap. It saves money by telling you what to buy next.

There is one case where the block is wrong. A student who will not work without an external appointment needs the appointment, and the weekly slot is doing something real that no amount of good diagnosis replaces. That is a legitimate purchase, but it should be named for what it is, because it changes who you should hire. Supervised, structured practice does not need the top of the market. Paying premium specialist rates for accountability is the most expensive way to buy a habit.

07

The exploration: what a fee covers and what it never covers

The mathematics exploration is 20% of the grade, written at home over a term, and it is the component where the boundary between teaching and malpractice has to be explicit. A tutor can help a student find a question that is both interesting and mathematically rich enough to score. A tutor can read the assessment criteria aloud with the student, ask what personal engagement would look like in their topic, point out that a conclusion does not follow from the data presented, and insist on a draft timeline that fits the school's internal deadline.

A tutor cannot author it. Not the mathematics, not the commentary, not the reflection, not a paragraph of it. The student types every word and performs every calculation, and anyone offering otherwise is selling an academic-honesty breach with an expulsion risk attached to the student rather than to the seller. This market has providers advertising finished internal assessments at four-figure prices. That is not a cheaper route to a grade; it is a route to no grade at all, and families should treat any such offer as disqualifying.

The practical consequence for a Marina family is that exploration support is thin and spread out rather than intense. Four to six sessions across a term, placed at the decision points: topic, mathematical depth, structure, reflection, and a final read before submission. Booking ten hours in the fortnight before the deadline buys panic. Booking five across a term buys a piece of work the student can talk about confidently if a teacher asks them to explain their own reasoning, which they will.

08

Checking that the tutor you are paying is permitted to teach here

  • Ask whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and for the category it was issued under
  • Treat any quoted fine amount as unverified unless you can read it on a government page
  • Be cautious of a provider using a regulator's name as a quality badge
  • Never arrange paid tuition with your child's own class teacher at their own school

Private tuition in the UAE is a permitted activity with a permit attached. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. According to the federal government's own services portal, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE lists the service as Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutor licensing, applied for through its app, website or e-services system.

Two things follow for a parent weighing a quote. The first is that the permit costs the tutor nothing, so a provider cannot reasonably present it as a cost that justifies a higher rate. The second is that operating without one carries consequences: the portal states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts is published, so any figure quoted to you as the fine should be treated with scepticism until you can find it on a government page.

A tutoring business with premises and employed staff in Dubai is a different legal animal, requiring an educational services permit from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority for a training institute. IB Gram has no UAE premises and does not hold that permit, which is also why no page here describes its tutors with any regulator's name attached as a credential. In Abu Dhabi there is a further restriction worth knowing even from the Marina: press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that school staff may not take paid private tuition with students enrolled at their own school.

Where we tutor

Where Marina maths students actually come from

Dubai Marina does not sit on its own. The same towers, villas and school buses pull from a ring of communities along Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, and the timing and cost of a session changes a little across that ring. These are the areas our Marina-side maths students live in.

JBR

A five-minute walk from much of the Marina and sharing the same school buses. Families here book the same 6:30pm and 7:30pm slots, and for the same reason: the beach-road traffic between 3pm and 5pm makes anything earlier unreliable.

JLT

Across the tram line and a different parking proposition entirely. JLT households were the ones who most often paid a visiting tutor for the drive, and they are the quickest to see what moving the hour over video does to the rate.

The Greens and The Views

Low-rise, short school runs, and within reach of a British-curriculum school on foot for some families. Maths tuition here skews younger: Years 7 to 9 bridging work rather than Diploma exam preparation.

Al Sufouh

Close enough to the Marina that the same households appear in both, and home to two of the schools these students attend. An Al Sufouh family can often get a 4:30pm slot to work, which is unusual in this cluster.

Bluewaters Island

One causeway in and out, which does for a visiting tutor's schedule what you would expect. Small student numbers, so a specialist in Applications and Interpretation Higher Level would never be found living on the island.

The Springs and The Meadows

Villa communities with a strong pull towards the IB school on the Meadows side. Sessions here often start later again, because co-curricular activities at school run to 5pm before anyone gets home.

Emirates Hills

A longer drive from the Marina than the map suggests once Al Khail Road is involved. Higher Level maths demand here is strong, and the pool of local tutors who can actually teach Paper 3 is not.

Al Furjan and Discovery Gardens

Newer communities on the far side of the Marina with a growing Year 10 and Year 11 population. Price sensitivity is higher here, which makes the block-versus-weekly decision on this page the most useful part of it.

School ecosystem

Schools on the Marina side of Al Khail Road

These are the schools Marina, JBR and Bluewaters households most often name when they ask about maths support. The mix matters for pricing: a British-curriculum school moving into A Level needs different help from an IB continuum school running Analysis and Approaches from Year 12.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the course, not the subject

Tell us which of the four combinations your child sits: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Standard or Higher Level. If you are not certain, the school's maths coordinator can confirm it in a line. Everything after this step, including who we match and what it costs, depends on that answer being right.

  2. 02

    Say what is actually failing

Missing content from earlier years, correct work that is too slow under timed conditions, method that is not written down in a form the scheme rewards, or an exploration with no question. These need different numbers of hours. Two of the four are solved with fewer sessions than families expect.

A free first lesson with the matched specialist

One hour at no cost with the tutor we propose, who spends part of it running a diagnostic on a past-paper section rather than teaching. You get a written view of which failure mode applies and how many hours it should take. There is no obligation afterwards and no card required to book it.

  4. 04

Buy the smallest block that fits

Usually six hours on one named topic with an end date, sometimes a weekly slot through the exam year, sometimes exploration supervision spread across a term. We will say which, including when the honest recommendation is to buy less than you came for or to wait until after the mock.

  5. 05

Review at the end of term and cut what is finished

A standing weekly hour that has outlived its reason is the commonest waste in this market. At the end of each term we look at the mock marks and the school's feedback and say whether to continue, reduce, change tutor or stop. Stopping is a normal outcome, not a failure.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures carry their source and their currency

Every AED rate on this page is attributed to the provider that published it, with the month it was recorded. Three of the six competitor pages examined for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in. You should be able to check our numbers.

The specialist is chosen by paper, not by postcode

Because lessons run one-to-one over live video, the shortlist for Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is everyone who teaches it well on a workable timezone rather than everyone who will drive to the Marina on a Tuesday. That is the entire practical case for online delivery at this level.

Recommendations to spend less, when that is right

A six-week block often closes a topic gap that a family arrived expecting to pay for across two years. We will say so, and we will say when the sensible move is to wait until the mock results are back before buying anything at all. A smaller correct purchase keeps families longer than a larger wrong one.

The coursework boundary is written down

On the exploration a tutor helps with the question, the criteria, the structure and the honesty of the conclusions. The mathematics and the words stay the student's own. This market contains providers selling finished internal assessments; the boundary is stated here so there is no ambiguity about what you are buying.

No regulator's name is used as a badge

KHDA, ADEK and MoHRE are named on this page to explain what they do and what a parent should check. None of them endorses IB Gram, and no page here says otherwise. A provider using a regulator's name as a quality claim is telling you something about itself rather than about its tutors.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Marina: your questions answered

How much does an IB maths tutor in Dubai Marina charge per hour?+

Published rates in this market put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and an IB-level specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, with a premium tier reaching AED 650. In-home visits are quoted from around AED 180 to 500 because the drive sits inside the rate. Those are market figures taken from each provider's own site in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list. For Diploma maths most Marina families end up in the AED 200 to 450 band, and whether the top or the bottom of it is right depends on whether the student needs Paper 3 work or earlier content.

Why is an in-home maths tutor quoted higher than an online one in the Marina?+

Because the drive is in the price even when it is not on the invoice. A tutor travelling to a Marina tower on a weekday evening spends time on Sheikh Zayed Road, then finding parking, then in a lift, and that time is paid for by somebody. Published in-home bands in Dubai sit above the equivalent online bands at every tier for this reason. The monthly packages make it clearer still: around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so there is no drive to price.

Is a tutor at AED 150 an hour a false economy for Higher Level maths?+

Not automatically, but it depends on what you are buying. At that rate you are usually hiring a maths graduate rather than someone who has taught the course, and for closing a Year 10 algebra gap that is the correct purchase. For Paper 3, for the final two terms of Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, or for an exploration that needs its mathematical depth assessed honestly, it is the wrong one, and the saved dirhams come back as extra hours. Ask which of the four course combinations the tutor taught most recently. If the answer is vague, the rate is telling you something true.

How many maths sessions a week should a Marina Diploma student start with?+

One, in almost every case, and for six weeks rather than indefinitely. A student who takes two sessions a week from the start usually has not yet established which failure mode is costing the marks, so the second hour goes on general revision that would have happened anyway. The exception is an Analysis and Approaches candidate rebuilding algebraic fluency before Paper 1, where two short sessions beat one long one, because fluency responds to frequency. Add hours after the first mock, when you have evidence, rather than before it, when you only have a grade.

Do you charge the same for Applications and Interpretation as for Analysis and Approaches?+

The market does not consistently distinguish them, and nor do we by default, but the hours needed often differ. Applications and Interpretation students tend to need longer single sessions, because setting up a modelling question, running the statistics and writing a contextual conclusion does not fit into twenty minutes. Analysis and Approaches students often get more from shorter, more frequent practice aimed at the non-calculator paper. So the hourly figure may match while the sensible total differs. We will say which pattern we think your child needs after the free first lesson.

Does the exploration need separate paid sessions, or is it covered in the weekly hour?+

Treat it separately. Folding it into a weekly hour means the exploration gets whatever time is left after the week's homework crisis, which is how it ends up started in February. Four to six sessions spread across a term, placed at the decision points, is the pattern that works: choosing the question, checking the mathematics is rich enough to score on use of mathematics, structure, reflection, and a final read before the school's internal deadline. That is fewer total hours than the rescue version and produces a piece of work the student can defend if asked to explain their reasoning.

My child sits Paper 3 in May and we have not started. Is it too late?+

No, and Paper 3 is unusually responsive late, because it tests stamina and structured working rather than new content. A focused block of timed extended questions, marked against the real scheme and then unpicked, moves that paper faster than general revision does. What is genuinely late is the exploration, which is written over months and cannot be compressed without the reflection marks suffering. So if time is short, spend it on timed Paper 3 practice and on the two or three topics the mock showed are weakest, and leave broad coverage alone.

Can one tutor cover both maths and physics for the same Marina student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, because a good deal of what blocks physics students is mathematical rather than physical: rearranging equations under pressure, logarithmic linearisation of a graph, calculus in the fields theme. A maths specialist who has taught Diploma physics can close those in a short block. What does not work is one person covering Higher Level in both subjects across a whole year as a convenience. At that depth you want two specialists, and the scheduling cost of a second tutor is low when every lesson runs over video anyway.

What should I stop paying for once my child's maths grade is stable?+

The standing weekly hour, first. Once mock marks are where you want them and the school's feedback agrees, that hour usually converts into supervised homework, which is real but not worth specialist rates. Keep exploration supervision until it is submitted, because that is 20% of the grade and the deadline is fixed. Keep a short block of timed-paper practice in the final term, because speed decays. Drop general content coverage. Families who review each term rather than renewing by default spend a fraction of what a two-year standing order costs.

Do maths tuition rates in Dubai rise in the months before the May session?+

Availability tightens more than headline rates move. The specialists who teach Higher Level well fill their evening slots first, so by February the constraint is usually whether anyone good has a 7:30pm Gulf Standard Time slot left rather than what they charge for it. Some providers do run exam-season packages at the upper end of their published band. The practical implication for a Marina family is to book the slot in the autumn term even if you only intend to use it for a block, because the price you cannot negotiate is the one for an hour that no longer exists.

Is group maths tuition cheaper for a Marina family with two children?+

Per student, yes, and small-group rates in this market are quoted well below one-to-one. Whether it is good value depends on whether the two students have the same problem. Two siblings on the same course with the same weak topic can share an hour productively. A Year 11 and a Year 13, or an Analysis and Approaches student with an Applications and Interpretation one, cannot: the hour splits and each gets half a lesson at a discount. Where the courses differ, two short individual sessions usually beat one shared long one.

How do I check that a private maths tutor is permitted to work in the UAE?+

Ask directly whether they hold the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and under which eligibility category. The federal services portal states it is granted free of charge for two years and lists eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE handles the application through its app, website and e-services system. Because the permit costs nothing, no tutor can reasonably present it as a reason for a higher rate, and a vague answer about licensing is worth following up.

Should I ask whether a quoted maths rate includes VAT?+

Yes, and ask for it in writing. Tax treatment of tuition in the UAE depends on the provider's own status and registration, and this page will not tell you what it is because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's guidance and for the provider's own tax position rather than for a tutoring site. What you can reasonably insist on is clarity: whether the figure quoted is the figure you pay, whether it changes for a longer session, and whether a monthly package is billed differently from an hourly booking.

What does a maths tutor need to know about my child's school calendar in the Marina?+

Four dates, at minimum. The school's internal deadline for the exploration, which is usually months before anything the IB publishes. The mock window, because that is where diagnostic evidence comes from. The end-of-term assessment dates, because a block should finish before one rather than during it. And the co-curricular commitments that decide whether a session can start at 6:30pm or has to wait until 7:30pm. Schools in this area finish between roughly 2:45pm and 3:30pm, and after-school programmes often run to 5pm, which settles most scheduling arguments before they start.

Is it cheaper to book a block of maths hours than to pay week by week?+

The hourly figure is usually similar. The total is not, and that is the point of this page. Six hours on a named topic with an end date costs around AED 1,500 at mid-specialist rates and gives you a clear answer about what the problem was. A full year of weekly hours at the same rate runs well past AED 9,000, and most families commit to it before establishing which of the four failure modes they are treating. Buy the block, use what it tells you, then decide whether the year is justified.

Price the problem, not the subject

If you take one thing from this page, take the order of operations. Confirm the course and level. Work out which of the four failure modes is costing the marks. Buy six hours against that, with an end date written down, and review it when the term ends. A Marina family that does this spends a fraction of what a two-year standing weekly order costs and usually ends up with the better grade, because the hours went where the marks were. Book the free first lesson with a matched specialist, bring the last mock paper, and we will tell you honestly how many hours we think it needs, including when the answer is fewer than you expected.
