IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai Investments Park

An IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Investments Park is usually hired in February of DP2, at the most expensive moment and for the vaguest reason. Chemistry rewards the opposite approach: four named failures, each with a session count and a test of completion, most of them short. This page prices them. Lessons are delivered live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Four named chemistry failures, each with a session count

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Investments Park

Chemistry money is spent late, broadly, and at the wrong rate

Dubai Investments Park sits in the southern corridor, split between DIP 1 and DIP 2, mixing industrial and commercial plots with residential enclaves including Green Community and Ritaj, served by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road and its own Metro station towards Expo City. Two IB schools and a British-curriculum school sit inside the district, with most secondary students travelling out to Jebel Ali, Al Furjan or Dubai South.

Chemistry has a distinctive spending pattern in this market, and it is not a flattering one. Families hire late, usually in the second term of DP2 when internal assessment deadlines and mocks have collided. They hire broadly, asking for chemistry rather than for a component. And they frequently hire at a premium rate for work that does not need one. Each of those three decisions multiplies the cost of the same outcome.

The subject does not require that. Chemistry mark loss is unusually concentrated, which means it is unusually cheap to fix once named. Organic mechanisms at Higher Level account for the largest single block, four to six sessions. Energetics sign conventions, which invalidate whole Hess cycles, take two. Equilibrium explanation that restates the shift instead of explaining it takes two or three. Weak acid calculations where strong acid arithmetic has been applied by habit take two or three.

Then there is the investigation at 20 per cent of the grade, where the cost profile inverts: one or two sessions before the research question is fixed can change the ceiling of the whole piece, and the same money spent after the data is collected buys presentation rather than marks. Knowing that distinction is worth more than any hourly rate comparison.

The third habit worth breaking is paying a premium rate for work that does not need one. Diagnosis from marked scripts, mechanism reasoning instruction and interrogating an investigation research question genuinely require somebody who knows the mark scheme and the limits of school glassware. Rule-and-check work after the rule has been taught does not, and practice supervision needs attention rather than expertise. Buying one rate for all three tasks costs more than splitting them, in either direction.

None of this requires buying tutoring years in advance. It requires knowing which windows are cheap, so that when a family does decide to spend, the money lands somewhere it buys more. Reading a marked script in DP1 is the mechanism: it tells you then what you would otherwise discover in February of DP2.

One premise, stated plainly: IB Gram delivers one-to-one chemistry tuition into DIP homes as live online video sessions on Gulf Standard Time, with working shared and annotated on screen. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we run only in India. For mechanism work the shared screen is a real advantage: the student draws the arrow, the tutor corrects it as it is drawn, and both see the same molecule the same way up rather than from opposite sides of a notebook.

At a glance

  • Organic mechanisms at Higher Level: four to six sessions, the largest block
  • Energetics sign conventions: two sessions, and they invalidate whole calculations
  • Equilibrium explanation and weak acid arithmetic: two to three sessions each
  • The investigation carries 20 per cent, and help is decisive only before data collection
  • Market rates: IB specialists roughly AED 200 to 450 and above per hour
  • UAE IB schools sit the May session; confirm any date with the school's IB coordinator

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry support in this corridor is requested at four points, and the cost of the same fix rises sharply the later it is bought. Each stage is described below by what the assessment demands.

DP HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Higher Level

Substantially greater depth, with organic chemistry, energetics and equilibrium carrying most of the additional demand, plus the internal investigation at 20 per cent. The characteristic failure is a mechanism drawn with correct products and incorrect arrows, which earns little because the arrows are the chemistry being examined.

Higher Level chemistry is the most common Diploma science request from DIP families, and the pattern repeats: a student comfortable at IGCSE meets mechanism work in DP1 and finds that memorising products stops paying. Bought in DP1 it is a four to six session block; bought in February of DP2 it is the same block under far worse conditions.

DP SLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Chemistry, Standard Level

The same thematic structure at reduced depth, with the investigation at the same proportional weight. Standard Level students often get by on recall and stoichiometric routine, which caps them, because the marks separating a five from a seven sit in explanation and data treatment rather than in coverage.

Proportionally the best value available at Standard Level is the investigation, because it carries the same 20 per cent as at Higher Level while the content demand is lower. A Standard Level student who treats it as the subject's main opportunity often gains more from it than a Higher Level peer does.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

MYP Sciences

Assessed against four criteria including inquiring and designing, and processing and evaluating, which are the direct ancestors of the Diploma investigation. A Year 10 student who learns to control variables deliberately and quantify uncertainty writes a far better investigation two years later.

The IB schools inside DIP run the continuum, so this is locally available and almost never purchased, because nothing is yet at stake. In pure cost terms it is the best value on the page: two sessions here prevent a capped investigation in DP2 that no later spending recovers.

BRIDGEAges 15-17 · Years 11-12

IGCSE or MYP to Diploma chemistry

Prior courses reward knowing what happens; the Diploma rewards explaining why, in mechanism and in energetics. The content overlap is real and the assessment shift is sharp, which is what produces the DP1 grade fall in students who were previously comfortable.

A summer block of four to six sessions between Year 11 and DP1 on bonding, electron movement and the language of mechanisms prevents most of that fall, and the summer carries no school run so nothing competes with it. It is the cheapest insurance available against a lost first DP1 term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is organised here by where the marks go and what each area costs to fix, because that is what a family needs before spending anything.

Stoichiometry and the mole

SL and HL

The arithmetic underneath most of the chemistry marks. Errors are rarely conceptual: a ratio inverted, a limiting reagent ignored, or units dropped partway through a multi-step calculation. Two sessions with a checking routine usually ends it.

Atomic structure and bonding

SL and HL

Electron configuration, ionisation trends and intermolecular forces. The recurring loss is an answer naming a force without saying why it is stronger here than there, which forfeits the explanation mark even where the identification was right.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL, extended at HL

Enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies, and at Higher Level entropy and Gibbs free energy. Sign conventions cost more marks here than any concept, and a wrong sign frequently invalidates an entire cycle built on it. Two sessions.

Chemical kinetics

SL and HL, extended at HL

Rate expressions, collision theory and at Higher Level rate-determining steps with mechanisms consistent with an experimental rate law. Students lose marks proposing a mechanism that does not match the given rate expression.

Equilibrium

SL and HL, extended at HL

Le Chatelier reasoning and at Higher Level quantitative equilibrium work. The characteristic error is predicting the correct shift and then justifying it by restating the shift, which is circular and earns only the prediction mark. Two to three sessions.

Acids, bases and redox

SL and HL, extended at HL

pH calculations, buffers, titration curves and electrochemical cells. Higher Level adds weak acid and base work, where students apply strong acid arithmetic by habit and land several pH units out. Two to three sessions.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL, substantially extended at HL

Functional groups, pathways and at Higher Level full mechanisms with curly arrows. The largest single block of Higher Level tutoring time, four to six sessions, because students learn products and are examined on electron movement.

Data processing and uncertainty

SL and HL

Percentage uncertainty, propagation, significant figures and graph interpretation. A short finite list, about three sessions, that transfers directly into the investigation and therefore pays twice over.

Explanation structure

SL and HL

Stating the chemistry, applying it to the specific case and reaching the conclusion the question asked for. Students who know the chemistry and write in the wrong structure lose marks consistently, which looks like weakness and is a three-session fix.

The chemistry investigation

SL and HL, 20 per cent of the grade

Internally assessed work marked against lettered criteria and moderated. A research question that cannot be measured precisely enough with school glassware caps the analysis criteria before any data exists, which is why help before the question is fixed is worth most.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns, each with a price shape and a test of completion. All are live one-to-one video sessions with shared annotation, and none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Mechanism block, Higher Level

Four to six sessions on organic mechanisms alone: electron movement, curly arrow conventions, intermediates and the reasoning that connects a reagent to a product. The largest chemistry block and the one with the clearest completion test, because an unfamiliar mechanism either gets built or it does not.

  • Mechanisms drawn live and corrected arrow by arrow
  • Reasoning from electron density, not memorised reagent tables
  • Intermediates named explicitly at every step
  • Completion test: an unfamiliar mechanism built and justified unaided

Short calculation and explanation fixes

Two or three sessions each on energetics sign conventions, equilibrium explanation structure, weak acid arithmetic or stoichiometric checking. Individually cheap, collectively decisive, and the cluster of work families almost never ask for because none of it sounds like a subject.

  • A rule plus a deliberate check, practised until automatic
  • Student marks their own work against the scheme wording
  • Fits a short weekday slot after a long school run
  • Completion test: the error stops appearing in the log

Investigation design coaching, before data

One to four sessions at the design stage of the internal investigation, which carries 20 per cent of the grade. Decisive at this point and close to worthless later, which is why the stage matters more than the rate.

  • Research question tested against the glassware a school actually has
  • Uncertainty plan agreed before the laboratory session
  • Criterion wording taught so the student can self-check
  • Completion test: a design that can generate usable data

01

What each chemistry block costs and buys

This is the table to see before any hourly rate is quoted, because in chemistry the block length varies far more than the rate. One problem is four to six sessions, four are two to three each, and one is a design conversation worth one or two sessions at the right moment and little at the wrong one.

The market rates, attributed and dated October 2026, so any quote can be judged. A qualified subject tutor online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 per hour. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel per Bestimate's 2026 Dubai cost table. Budget online provision starts at Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. None of these is an IB Gram price list; ours is set after the free trial.

The useful discipline is the completion test rather than the rate. A block with a test ends when the work is done; a block with only an end date becomes a standing arrangement reviewed when the invoice becomes uncomfortable. Chemistry happens to have clean tests: an unfamiliar mechanism constructed unaided, a sign convention error absent from a full paper, a weak acid pH within range.

For wider household context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package, which makes tutoring the main variable line in most education budgets this year.

Why chemistry gets bought late, and what that costs

The timing pattern in this subject is remarkably consistent, and it is worth naming because the cure is free. Families hire a chemistry tutor in the second term of DP2, when the internal assessment is due, mocks are approaching and a report has arrived. At that moment every household in Dubai wants the same thing at the same hour.

The cost of hiring then is not a higher rate; it is a worse outcome for the same money. The investigation design is already fixed, so the cheapest decisive intervention has expired. Mechanism work now competes with four other deadlines for the student's attention, so six sessions achieve what four would have achieved in DP1. And the early-evening slots are contested, which in a southern corridor household with a long school run means the available times are the worst ones.

The alternative costs nothing but a calendar. The cheapest interventions in chemistry all sit early: criterion work in MYP, the transition block in the summer before DP1, mechanism reasoning in the first DP1 term, investigation design before the research question is fixed. Each of those is the same money spent at a point where it buys more.

This is not an argument for buying tutoring years in advance. It is an argument for knowing which windows are cheap, so that when a family does decide to spend, they spend into a window that works. Reading the marked script early is the mechanism: it tells you in DP1 what you would otherwise discover in DP2.

03

Mechanisms: the largest block and the clearest test

  • Reason from electron density, not from a memorised reagent table
  • Arrows corrected as they are drawn, which is why shared annotation matters
  • Intermediates named explicitly at every step
  • Four to six sessions, with an unfamiliar mechanism as the completion test

Organic mechanisms account for the biggest single share of recoverable Higher Level chemistry marks, and the reason is a mismatch between how students revise and what is examined. Students learn which reagent gives which product, because that is what a textbook table presents. The examination asks for the electron movement that produces it, and a mechanism with correct products and incorrect arrows earns very little, because the arrows are the chemistry being tested.

The method that works is reasoning from electron density rather than recognition. Where are the electrons, where are they attracted, what breaks, what forms, in which order. A student who can answer those five questions about an unfamiliar molecule can construct a mechanism they have never seen, which is precisely the skill the examination is built to separate. A student who cannot is dependent on recognition, and recognition fails exactly when the paper introduces something new.

Teaching it has a specific shape, and it is where online delivery is a genuine improvement rather than a substitute. The student draws, the tutor corrects the arrow as it is being drawn, and the correction lands at the moment the error is made. On paper between two people in a room, half the arrows are upside down from the tutor's viewpoint; on a shared annotated screen, both see the same molecule the same way up.

Expect four to six sessions for most Higher Level students, with a clean completion test: an unfamiliar mechanism constructed and justified without prompting. That is a defined block with a visible end point, which is how chemistry should be bought rather than as a standing weekly arrangement that nobody reviews until the May session has already happened.

04

The cheap fixes nobody asks for

Four chemistry problems cost two or three sessions each, and almost no family asks for them by name, because none of them sounds like a subject. Together they often account for more marks than a mechanism block does, and they fit a short weekday slot after a long school run, which makes them ideal for a household in this corridor.

Energetics sign conventions come first. An exothermic change reported with a positive enthalpy is treated by the scheme as a chemistry error rather than a presentation slip, and it frequently invalidates a Hess cycle built on top of it. Students find this harsh, which is why it survives: each instance looks like carelessness, so nobody fixes the underlying habit. Two sessions with a rule and a deliberate check.

Equilibrium explanation is second. A student predicts the correct shift and justifies it by restating the shift, which is circular and earns only the prediction mark. The scheme wants the change in the system named and the effect on the position of equilibrium derived from it. Two to three sessions. Weak acid calculations are third: strong acid arithmetic applied by habit produces a confident pH several units out, and the error is systematic rather than random, which makes it fast to correct.

Fourth is a stoichiometric checking routine. Inverted ratios and ignored limiting reagents produce clean wrong answers that look like misunderstanding and are not. Two sessions installing a verification habit usually ends them. None of these four requires new content, which is why they are the best value in the subject and the least often requested.

05

The investigation, costed by stage

The internal chemistry investigation carries 20 per cent of the grade, is marked by the school against lettered criteria and is moderated by the IB. Its cost profile is unlike anything else in the subject, because the same money buys very different amounts depending on when it is spent.

Before the research question is fixed, one or two sessions can change the ceiling of the whole piece. The commonest structural failure is a question depending on a change too small for school glassware to measure precisely, which caps the analysis and evaluation criteria before any data exists. Testing the question against the equipment actually available is an afternoon's work at the design stage and impossible three weeks later.

Before the laboratory session, the uncertainty plan can still be built into the method. A student who collects a single run per condition cannot subsequently produce an uncertainty analysis, and no amount of writing rescues it. That is a sequencing decision rather than a writing one, and it is worth more than any later polishing.

After the data is collected, the honest position is that the ceiling is set and the remaining scope is presentation and clarity. Help at that point has some value and is not worth a specialist rate, and any provider implying that late investigation support transforms a mark is selling comfort. The boundary also never moves: one operator researched for these pages sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, buying one is an academic honesty breach that can cost the whole Diploma, and the consequence falls on the student. We write nothing, at any price. The test after a session is whether your child could explain and defend every change in their own words.

06

Matching the rate to the task

The second commonest chemistry waste after buying late is buying at the wrong rate. Not every chemistry task needs a specialist, and paying AED 270 or more an hour for something that needs company rather than expertise is a straightforward transfer of money for no additional outcome.

Specialist rates are justified by diagnosis and by reasoning instruction. Reading two marked scripts and identifying that the loss is sign conventions rather than thermochemical understanding requires somebody who knows the scheme. Teaching mechanism reasoning from electron density requires somebody who can correct an arrow as it is drawn and explain why it was wrong. Interrogating an investigation research question requires knowing what a school laboratory can actually measure.

Mid-band rates are right for most of the short fixes, which are rule-and-check work once the rule is taught. Budget rates are genuinely appropriate for practice supervision, keeping a student working through question sets and providing company during revision, and there is no shame in using them for that. What a budget rate will not reliably deliver is diagnosis, which is the one thing that determines whether everything else is aimed correctly.

The practical rule is to buy diagnosis once at a specialist rate, then buy the execution at the rate the execution requires. Households that do this spend less overall than households who pick one rate and use it for everything, in either direction.

There is one exception worth stating, because it cuts against the rule. If a household can only manage a small number of sessions in total, put all of them at the specialist rate and aim them at the single highest-value target. Spreading a small budget across cheaper hours produces supervision rather than change, and supervision is only worth buying when the direction has already been set.

Fitting chemistry into a southern corridor week

  • Mechanism work belongs in the freshest slot, usually a weekend morning
  • Sign conventions, checking routines and explanation structure fit a short weekday slot
  • Summer carries the transition block; the winter break carries component repair
  • Ramadan sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing
  • Sessions continue across time zones because nothing depends on a Dubai address

Chemistry divides unevenly, which matters in a corridor where arrival home ranges from under four o'clock to past six depending on whether a child attends a school inside DIP or travels to Jebel Ali, Dubai South or further north.

Mechanism work is the most cognitively demanding thing in the subject and belongs in the freshest slot the week offers, which for a long-commute household is a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening. A mechanism session with a tired student produces frustration and reinforces the recognition habit the block is meant to replace.

The short fixes behave in the opposite way. Sign conventions, checking routines, equilibrium explanation structure and weak acid arithmetic are rule-and-check work, self-contained, and perfectly suited to forty minutes after a long day. That is a convenient division: the cheap work fits the constrained slot and only the expensive block needs protecting.

The holidays matter disproportionately. The summer between Year 11 and DP1 carries no school run and is the natural home for the transition block on bonding and mechanism language. The winter break sits after investigation drafts should exist and before the mock window, making it the one period in DP2 when a student can work on a component with no competing deadline. Sessions continue if the family travels, because nothing depends on a Dubai address, and Ramadan sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing for the month.

One last scheduling point specific to this subject. Chemistry has more hard internal deadlines than most Diploma sciences, because the investigation sits alongside the papers, and those deadlines are set by the school rather than by the IB. Ask your child's teacher for the investigation checkpoint dates at the start of DP1 and put them on one family calendar, because in this corridor a deadline discovered late cannot be absorbed by a spare evening that does not exist.

What to verify before paying anyone

  • A published rate, or a clear statement of how it is set, in dirhams
  • A stated position on the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • A free trial with its conditions on the same screen
  • A tutor who can name the failure and estimate a block from scripts
  • No claimed regulator or examination board approval
  • A review point tied to a school assessment, agreed in advance

Five checkable items, and they should be asked of us as readily as of anyone else. A provider who answers all five plainly is telling you something real about how they work.

One: a published rate, or a clear statement of how the price is set, in dirhams rather than a currency you do not transact in. Three of six researched competitor pages publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. Two: a stated position on the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which individuals offering private lessons in the UAE need under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and whose absence exposes the tutor to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted figure with suspicion.

Three: a free trial with any condition stated on the same screen. Four: a tutor who can name the failure and estimate a block length from two marked scripts, which in chemistry is a reliable test of whether they know the scheme rather than just the syllabus. Five: no claimed approval from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, because an independent tutoring platform holds none and IB Gram holds none either. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises and says nothing about an individual tutor.

A sixth item belongs to you: a review point agreed before the first session, tied to a real school event such as a mock or an investigation checkpoint. Without it the likely outcome is not a bad tutor but an unreviewed arrangement, which is how a sensible hourly rate becomes an unreasonable annual total.

09

Starting from Dubai Investments Park

  • Send level, school, two marked scripts, the investigation stage and a sustainable session length
  • Free trial lesson gives the failure and the estimated block length
  • An honest answer when the cheapest window has already passed
  • No completed coursework, no grade promises, no claimed approvals

Send five things: the level, the school, the last two marked chemistry scripts, where the investigation currently stands, and the session length your household can sustain on a weekday. The free trial lesson comes before any payment and produces the two numbers that make this a financial decision: which failure you have, and how many sessions it should take.

If the answer is two sessions on sign conventions, you will be told two sessions. If the investigation question is already fixed and the data collected, you will be told that the cheapest intervention has expired and what remains is worth less, which is the answer a provider has least incentive to give. And if Higher Level cover is not available in your preferred slot, you will get a realistic date rather than a substitute.

What will not be claimed. No grade promise, because nobody can honestly make one, and no claim that a number of sessions produces a particular grade. No suggestion that tutoring is required for Ministry of Education equivalency, university admission or school progression, which would be a false claim about a regulatory process. No regulator or board approval, no UAE office or centre, and no satisfaction statistics, because a figure without its sample, date and method is decoration. And no completed coursework, at any price, for any reason.

Finally, we do not publish, reproduce or supply IB past papers, mark schemes, grade boundary tables or subject guides as downloads, because that material is the organisation's copyright and unreleased content carries a malpractice exposure. We cite the official source, link to it, and work from what your child's school legitimately provides.

Where we tutor

Dubai Investments Park and the corridor around it

Location affects the session hour and the in-home travel premium. Each note gives the practical detail rather than a description of the community.

Dubai Investments Park 1 and 2

Industrial and commercial plots with residential enclaves inside a large footprint. Low residential density means thin local specialist supply, and the southern position means the highest in-home travel premium in the market.

Green Community and Ritaj

Established residential enclaves within DIP, with arrival home ranging from under four o'clock to past five depending on school and transport, which decides what a weekday session can hold.

Al Furjan

Villas and townhouses north of DIP with a Metro station and a British-curriculum school inside the community, giving shorter runs and a realistic 5.15pm start for most addresses.

Jebel Ali

Established British-curriculum schools serving the corridor, with afternoon traffic typically putting a secondary student home between 4.45pm and 5.30pm and pushing chemistry sessions towards 6pm.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest part of the corridor around Expo City, with long runs and recent schools. Senior science cohorts here are often small, so outside cover is needed quickly when staffing changes.

Discovery Gardens

Dense apartment living with nearly every child bussed out and long runs both ways, which pushes mechanism work, the most tiring thing in the subject, to the weekend.

The Sustainable City

A planned community towards Al Qudra with a school inside it and walkable access, giving the earliest achievable session starts anywhere nearby.

Dubai Production City

A mixed media and residential district north east of DIP with short runs to schools in Motor City and Sports City and a middling arrival of about 4.30pm to 5pm.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send scripts and the investigation stage together

The scripts tell a specialist which of the short fixes applies; the investigation stage tells them whether the most valuable intervention in the subject is still available. Both matter, and the second is time-limited in a way families rarely realise.

  2. 02

Ask which block and how many sessions

Chemistry mark loss concentrates in a small number of well-understood places, so a competent tutor can give a reliable estimate from marked work. A provider who will not estimate is proposing a standing arrangement, which is the most expensive product in this market.

  3. 03

Match the rate to the task

Buy diagnosis and mechanism instruction at a specialist rate because they need somebody who knows the scheme. Buy practice supervision at a budget rate because the task is attention rather than expertise. Households that split this way spend less overall.

Protect one fresh slot for mechanism work

Mechanisms are the most demanding work in the subject and belong in the best hour of the week, which in this corridor is a weekend morning. The short fixes can take the tired weekday slot, which is a convenient division rather than a compromise.

  5. 05

Review at the investigation checkpoint or mock

Tie the review to a real school event rather than a date. When the completion test is met, stopping is the recommendation, and in chemistry the tests are unusually clean: an unfamiliar mechanism built unaided, a sign error absent from a full paper.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by block, with completion tests

One four to six session block, four short fixes of two to three sessions each, and a design conversation whose value depends entirely on timing. Each with an observable test, so the spend is finite and judgeable.

The late-buying pattern named

Families hire chemistry tutors in the second term of DP2, when the cheapest decisive intervention has already expired and the best slots are gone. The remedy costs nothing but a calendar, so it is worth stating plainly.

The cheap fixes brought forward

Sign conventions, equilibrium explanation, weak acid arithmetic and stoichiometric checking cost two to three sessions each and are almost never requested, because none of them sounds like a subject. Together they often beat a mechanism block.

Investigation value costed by stage

Decisive before the question is fixed, useful before the laboratory session, and worth little in the final fortnight. We say so even though it costs us late bookings, because the alternative is selling reassurance.

Rates matched to tasks

Diagnosis and mechanism teaching justify a specialist rate; rule-and-check work does not; practice supervision justifies a budget rate. Paying one rate for everything costs more in either direction.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Investments Park: your questions answered

How many sessions does a chemistry problem usually take?+

Most are short. Energetics sign conventions take about two sessions; equilibrium explanation structure two to three; weak acid and buffer arithmetic two to three; a stoichiometric checking routine two. The one substantial block is organic mechanisms at Higher Level, which is four to six sessions because reasoning from electron density has to replace a memorised reagent table. Ask any provider for the estimate and for the observable test that will show the block is finished.

Can we arrange in-home chemistry lessons at our DIP address?+

Not through IB Gram. Chemistry is taught one-to-one into DIP homes over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with working shared and annotated on screen, and we send no tutors to UAE addresses; in-person home visits are an India-only service for us. For mechanism work the shared screen is a genuine advantage: the student draws the arrow, the tutor corrects it as it is drawn, and both see the same molecule the same way up.

Why do people say chemistry tutoring is expensive?+

Usually because of when and how it is bought rather than the rate. Families hire in the second term of DP2, by which point the investigation design is fixed, mechanism work competes with four other deadlines, and the best slots are gone, so six sessions achieve what four would have in DP1. They also ask for chemistry rather than for a component, which spreads the work thin. Both habits multiply the cost of the same outcome.

What is the cheapest useful chemistry intervention?+

Two sessions on energetics sign conventions, if that is what the script shows, because an exothermic change reported with a positive enthalpy is treated as a chemistry error and frequently invalidates a whole Hess cycle built on it. Close behind are a stoichiometric checking routine, equilibrium explanation structure and weak acid arithmetic, each two to three sessions. None involves new content, and almost no family asks for them by name.

Our child learns reagents and products but still loses marks. Why?+

Because the examination asks for electron movement, not for products. A mechanism with correct products and incorrect arrows earns very little, since the arrows are the chemistry being tested. Students revise from reagent tables because that is what textbooks present, and recognition then fails whenever the paper introduces an unfamiliar substrate, which is exactly what it is designed to do. Four to six sessions of reasoning from electron density replaces the habit.

Is it too late for investigation help if the data is collected?+

For the valuable part, yes, and we would rather say it. The design sets the ceiling on the analysis and evaluation criteria, so once data exists the remaining scope is presentation and clarity, which is worth something and not worth a specialist rate. Before the research question is fixed, one or two sessions can change the ceiling of the entire piece by testing whether it can be measured with the glassware a school actually has.

Someone offered us a completed Internal Assessment. Should we consider it?+

No, under any circumstances. One operator researched for this market advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, and buying one is an academic honesty breach that can cost the entire Diploma, with the consequence falling on your child rather than the seller. A tutor may teach criteria, interrogate the research question, demonstrate technique on unrelated data and comment on your child's own draft. The test afterwards is whether your child can defend every change themselves.

Do we need a specialist for every chemistry session?+

No, and assuming so is the second commonest way chemistry money is wasted. Diagnosis from marked scripts, mechanism reasoning instruction and investigation question interrogation genuinely need somebody who knows the mark scheme and the limits of school equipment. Rule-and-check work after the rule has been taught does not, and practice supervision needs attention rather than expertise. Buy the diagnosis at a specialist rate and the execution at the rate it requires.

When is the best time to buy chemistry support?+

Earlier than feels necessary, and the two cheapest windows carry no school run at all. The summer between Year 11 and DP1 is the natural home for the transition block on bonding and mechanism language, which prevents the first-term fall families then spend a year repairing. The winter break in DP2 sits after investigation drafts should exist and before mocks, making it the only period when a component can be fixed without a competing deadline.

Why do weak acid calculations go wrong so consistently?+

Because students apply strong acid arithmetic out of habit and arrive confidently at a pH several units from the correct value. The error is systematic rather than random, which is good news: a short deliberate block on the distinction, with practice at recognising which case a question presents, usually ends it in two or three sessions. It also tends to indicate buffer questions are being answered the same way, so the two are worth correcting together.

Is Standard Level chemistry worth supporting?+

Often, and the best value at Standard Level is usually the investigation, because it carries the same 20 per cent as at Higher Level while the content demand is lower. The marks are available on easier terms and the work can be done well with time rather than brilliance. Beyond that, three sessions on explanation structure and data handling typically move a Standard Level grade further than a term of content revision, because content was rarely the problem.

Which chemistry work needs the best slot of the week?+

Mechanisms, without question. They are the most cognitively demanding thing in the subject, and a mechanism session with a tired student reinforces the recognition habit the block exists to replace. In this corridor that means a weekend morning rather than a weekday evening after a long school run. Conveniently, the short fixes behave in the opposite way: sign conventions and checking routines are rule-and-check work that survives forty tired minutes perfectly well.

Do you supply IB chemistry past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and a provider advertising them as a feature is distributing someone else's property. IB past papers, mark schemes, grade boundary tables and subject guides are the organisation's copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. We reference them, cite the official source, link to it, and work from what your child's school legitimately provides. The subject teacher also remains the authority on exactly what this cohort sits, since the IB revises its guides.

What should we send with a first enquiry?+

Five things, and the fourth is the one most families omit. The level, the school, the last two marked chemistry scripts, where the investigation currently stands, and the session length your household can genuinely sustain on a weekday. The scripts identify which short fix applies; the investigation stage says whether the most valuable intervention in the subject is still available; and the session length determines whether mechanism work has to go to the weekend.

Buy the named block, at the right rate, in the right window

Chemistry is cheap to fix and expensive to leave, because its mark loss concentrates in a small number of well-understood places and the most valuable intervention of all, the investigation design conversation, expires without warning. Send the level, the school, two marked scripts and where the investigation stands, and ask for the block length and the completion test before anything is booked. If the honest answer is two sessions, that is what you will be told. Lessons run live online into your DIP home on Gulf Standard Time.
