IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Garhoud

Booking an IB chemistry tutor in Al Garhoud is a two-year spending decision, not an hourly one. Families here usually start by asking the rate and end up asking a better question: how many hours does a Diploma chemistry grade actually take, and which of them are worth paying for. This page answers it in dirhams, month by month. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Garhoud

Price the whole Diploma, not the first hour

Chemistry tutoring is sold by the hour and bought by the term, and that mismatch is where Al Garhoud families lose money. A parent compares two quotes, picks the lower one, and discovers eighteen months later that the cheaper tutor needed twice as many hours to cover the same ground. The useful unit of comparison is not AED per hour. It is the total cost of carrying a Diploma chemistry student from the start of DP1 to the final paper, and what that total buys at each price point.

Start with the honest arithmetic. A Diploma subject taken seriously with weekly support over two years runs to somewhere between 60 and 90 tutored hours, depending on where the student starts and whether the Scientific Investigation needs a dedicated block. At the budget end of the Dubai market, advertised from around AED 45 to 150 an hour by providers including EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52, that is a modest line in a family budget. At the specialist band of AED 200 to 450 and above, quoted by TutorChase at AED 270 and shown in Bestimate's 2026 rate table as AED 200 to 450 or more, it is a substantial one. The decision deserves more than a glance at the hourly figure.

The second thing to price is what the hours are spent on. Chemistry divides cleanly into content a student can learn from a textbook and content that genuinely needs a teacher. Memorising the solubility rules does not need paid hours. Learning to see why a particular organic mechanism proceeds the way it does, or why an enthalpy cycle has been set up in the direction it has, does. Families who buy twenty hours of re-teaching bonding have bought something available free; families who buy ten hours of mechanism reasoning and mark-scheme work have bought the thing that moves the grade.

The third is the shape of the spend across the two years. Diploma chemistry does not need the same intensity throughout. DP1 rewards steady low-volume work that keeps the student level with the school's sequence. The investigation needs a short concentrated block timed to an internal deadline that sits months before the examination session. DP2 needs a thin maintenance pattern followed by a dense run-in. Spreading the same budget evenly across twenty-four months is the most common planning error, and it costs more than it looks because the heavy hours land where they do the least good.

Lessons here are delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India, and the pricing consequence is worth stating plainly: published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online, and a large part of that gap is the car crossing the Creek at 17:00. For an Al Garhoud family that difference, paid weekly across a two-year Diploma, is a meaningful number of additional teaching hours.

At a glance

  • Compare total hours to the final paper, not AED per hour
  • A two-year Diploma subject with weekly support runs roughly 60-90 tutored hours
  • Spend lightly in DP1, densely in the run-in, with a defined block for the investigation
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee rise for 2026-27, so tutoring is the moving line
  • Every AED figure on this page is attributed; none of it is IB Gram's price list
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Garhoud families buy chemistry support at four points, and each has a different and fairly predictable price shape.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

MYP Sciences, chemistry strand

The cheapest intervention in the whole sequence, because the hours are few and the return is large. MYP Sciences is assessed on criteria rather than content coverage, so students can reach DP1 with good investigative habits and thin quantitative chemistry. Six to eight sessions on moles, concentration and stoichiometric reasoning before DP1 starts prevents a term of expensive catching up inside it.

Deira International School runs the full IB continuum, so some Al Garhoud students move from MYP 5 into DP1 within the same school. Those arriving from a British-curriculum Year 11 nearby have the opposite profile: solid calculation drill and weaker experimental design, which changes what the bridging block should cover.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Chemistry, Standard Level

Standard Level covers the common content with the same internally assessed investigation requirement as Higher Level. Budget for the lighter end of the range, around 50 to 65 hours across two years, because the usual problem is pace rather than depth. Students taking SL chemistry alongside two other sciences lose marks to unfinished papers more often than to misunderstood content.

For many Al Garhoud students SL chemistry is the third science or the pragmatic partner to a Higher Level maths load. Where a student takes both SL chemistry and SL physics, one tutor covering the shared quantitative skills can cut the total hours, which is a real saving rather than a packaging trick.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Chemistry, Higher Level

Higher Level extends the common content, with the extensions concentrated in organic chemistry, equilibrium and energetics. Budget towards the upper end, 70 to 90 hours, and expect the organic mechanism work to absorb a disproportionate share of them. This is the route where the difference between a specialist and a general science tutor shows up most clearly in the final grade.

Higher Level chemistry is the usual prerequisite for medicine and the life sciences at universities UAE students apply to, so it is rarely dropped even when it is the hardest subject on the timetable. Check departmental requirements in writing; no tutoring page should imply that tuition is needed for admission.

POST-DPAges 17-18 · DP2

The investigation block and the final run-in

Two discrete purchases rather than a continuation of the weekly pattern. The investigation block is three to five sessions timed to the school's internal deadline. The run-in is two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session, built entirely around timed papers and mark schemes. Pricing these separately makes the two-year total predictable.

Investigation deadlines are set internally by the school and usually collide with mock examinations in a Dubai Diploma timetable. Placing the block before that collision rather than inside it is free and saves hours, which makes it the most valuable piece of scheduling advice on this page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every chemistry topic justifies a paid hour. These are the strands Al Garhoud families actually buy time on, with a note on whether the money is well spent there.

Moles, stoichiometry and limiting reagents

SL and HL

The foundation everything quantitative rests on, and genuinely worth paid hours early because an insecure mole concept quietly corrupts titration, energetics and equilibrium work for two years. Three or four sessions in DP1 is a better investment than twenty in DP2.

Atomic structure and periodicity

SL and HL

Mostly learnable from a textbook and rarely worth many paid hours. The exception is explaining trends rather than stating them: a mark scheme wants the named reason, and students who can recite the trend still lose the explanation marks.

Bonding, structure and intermolecular forces

SL and HL

Cheap to teach and expensive to leave vague. Questions ask students to justify a physical property from a structure, which is reasoning rather than recall. One or two targeted sessions usually close the gap for good.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL core, HL extended

Worth paying for. Enthalpy cycles require students to set up a route rather than apply a formula, and the sign conventions defeat a large share of candidates. Higher Level extensions here add entropy and spontaneity, which carry their own set of reliable losses.

Chemical kinetics and rate

SL core, HL extended

Standard Level work is manageable independently. The Higher Level rate-law and mechanism material is not, because it requires interpreting data to propose a rate-determining step. This is a strand where a specialist earns the rate in two sessions.

Equilibrium and the equilibrium constant

SL core, HL extended

Le Chatelier questions look easy and are marked strictly: a direction of shift without the reason earns little. Higher Level calculations with equilibrium constants demand confident algebra, and that algebra is often the real obstacle rather than the chemistry.

Acids, bases, pH and buffers

SL core, HL extended

High-yield paid hours. Weak acid calculations, buffer behaviour and titration curve interpretation appear reliably and reward precise method. Students routinely lose marks by using the strong acid approach on a weak acid question without noticing the difference.

Redox, electrochemistry and cells

SL core, HL extended

Half-equation balancing in acidic and basic conditions is drillable and worth drilling. Electrode potential questions require a convention applied consistently, and inconsistent sign handling is the single most common source of lost marks in the topic.

Organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms

SL core, HL extended

The topic Al Garhoud families buy the most hours for, and usually correctly. Mechanisms cannot be memorised at Higher Level volume; they have to be reasoned from structure and electron movement. Expect this strand to absorb a quarter of the two-year total.

The data booklet and the periodic table provided

SL and HL

A skill rather than a reference habit, and almost never taught deliberately. Students lose minutes hunting for values and misuse constants whose units differ from their classroom notation. Twenty minutes of practice pays for itself inside one paper.

Uncertainties, error analysis and graph work

SL and HL

Carries marks on the papers and underpins the investigation, so work here counts twice. Percentage uncertainty propagation and deciding what a gradient physically represents are the two specific skills, and both are quick to teach.

Extended-response and command-term technique

SL and HL

The cheapest grade movement available in the final two terms. Longer questions are marked against named points, so writing the required reason matters more than writing at length. Distinguishing state, describe, explain, deduce and evaluate is an hour's work with permanent value.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy Diploma chemistry support, with the cost consequence of each. All are delivered online over live video, one-to-one.

Light weekly through DP1

One 60-minute lesson a week tracking the school's own sequence, at the cheapest sustainable intensity. The purpose is to keep the student level rather than ahead, catching misconceptions in the week they form instead of in the mock. Around 30 to 35 hours across DP1, and the cheapest version of the two-year plan because nothing has to be repaired later.

  • Topic order follows the school scheme of work, not a textbook order
  • Each lesson ends with one past-paper question marked against the mark scheme
  • Misconceptions caught in the week they form, which is where the saving comes from

The investigation block

Three to five sessions concentrated around the Scientific Investigation and timed to the school's internal deadline. Priced and planned as a discrete purchase rather than added to the weekly pattern, which keeps the two-year total predictable. The work is questioning and feedback only; the student writes every word of what is submitted.

  • The four criteria explained with their mark allocations
  • Research design questioned, never supplied
  • Scheduled before the mock collision rather than inside it

The DP2 run-in

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks before the examination session, entirely past-paper driven. The densest and most expensive phase, and the one that returns the most per dirham because the student has the content and is losing marks on execution. Families who spend their whole budget here get less than those who spread it as above.

  • Timed paper, line-by-line review, repair of named loss points
  • Command-term and extended-response technique drilled explicitly
  • A final full mock in the week before the first paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Garhoud

01

A two-year chemistry budget in dirhams, phase by phase

Here is the spend laid out the way a family actually encounters it. The figures use the published market bands, so they describe what a Dubai family would pay a specialist at the going rate rather than any price IB Gram sets. Take the specialist band at AED 200 to 450 an hour, which TutorChase publishes at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 table shows as AED 200 to 450 or more, and apply it to the phase structure that Diploma chemistry actually needs.

The headline is that the two-year total is dominated by DP1, not by the run-in, even though the run-in feels like the expensive part. Thirty-four weekly hours across DP1 at a mid-specialist rate is a larger number than twenty intensive hours in DP2. That is the opposite of how most families plan, which is to economise through DP1 and then buy heavily in the final term. The economising is false, because the DP1 gaps are what make the DP2 block long.

The second thing the table shows is how cheap the investigation block is relative to its weight in the grade. The Scientific Investigation is assessed internally against four criteria totalling 24 marks and forms part of the final subject grade, and three to five sessions is enough to make the difference between a student who understands what each criterion rewards and one who does not. Per mark, it is the best-value purchase in the two years.

The third is that the bridging block before DP1 barely registers in the total and prevents a disproportionate share of the later spend. Six sessions on moles, concentration and stoichiometric reasoning in the summer before the Diploma starts costs a fraction of the term of remedial work it replaces. Nothing else on this page has that ratio.

Tutoring in context: where it sits in a Dubai education budget

A tutoring figure means nothing without the rest of the budget beside it, and Dubai gives an unusually clear reference point. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are the largest line in most families' education spending and they are, for this year, frozen. Tutoring is the line that is still moving.

That changes the planning question. A family whose fees are flat has a clearer view of what discretionary spending is available, and the sensible response is to plan the tutoring total deliberately rather than let it accumulate hour by hour. The monthly packages advertised in the Dubai market make this easier to think about: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Those monthly figures expose the in-home premium more starkly than hourly rates do. Four two-hour in-home sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month is eight hours of teaching; AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions. The difference per month, sustained across a two-year Diploma, is a substantial number of additional teaching hours, and a good portion of what the premium covers is a car crossing the Creek in peak traffic rather than anything that happens in the lesson.

The scale of the sector gives the last piece of context. Dubai reported 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen curricula, with UK-curriculum schools at 37 per cent of enrolment and the IB at 7 per cent. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. A growing Diploma cohort means growing demand for Diploma chemistry specialists, which is a reason to settle the arrangement early in DP1 rather than in the term before the papers.

Provider models compared, and what the cheapest one leaves out

There are six realistic ways to buy chemistry support in Dubai and they differ in more than price. The comparison that matters is not which is cheapest per hour but which includes the things a Diploma chemistry grade needs: a tutor who can read a mark scheme, continuity with one person across two years, a defined position on the investigation, and a way out if the match is wrong.

The budget online tier, advertised from around AED 45 to 150 an hour, is genuinely useful for MYP sciences and for IGCSE chemistry catch-up. For Higher Level Diploma chemistry it tends to omit the specific thing you are paying for, which is diagnosis. A tutor who re-teaches bonding to a student whose problem is organic mechanism reasoning has delivered an hour of teaching and no progress, and the hour was cheap in isolation and expensive in aggregate.

Tuition centre group classes work on content coverage and cannot work on an individual's loss points, which is the entire purpose of chemistry tutoring in DP2. They also reintroduce a journey into an afternoon that was already tight, and the journey is the thing an Al Garhoud family was trying to avoid. In-home one-to-one, quoted across Dubai at AED 180 to 500 with Bestimate's common range at AED 180 to 350, carries the travel inside the rate; it is not a service IB Gram provides in the UAE, and the table includes it as the comparison it is.

The table also includes a column nobody in this market publishes: what happens if the match is wrong. That matters financially. A family that has paid for a term in advance and discovers in week four that the tutor cannot diagnose has lost the term, not the hour. A free trial before any payment, and a stated process for changing tutor, are worth more in expected cost than a twenty per cent difference in hourly rate.

04

Organic chemistry: where the hours actually go

  • Electron movement before mechanism lists; the list means nothing without it
  • Four or five sessions of reasoning makes fifty practice questions worth doing
  • Higher Level synthesis and spectroscopy are where the 5-to-7 gap opens
  • Practise with the data booklet and provided spectra deliberately
  • Budget about a quarter of the two-year total here, in two concentrated phases

If a chemistry budget overruns, organic chemistry is almost always the reason. It is the strand Al Garhoud families buy the most hours for, and in Higher Level it is the strand where memorisation stops working. Students arrive having learned a list of reactions as facts, and the questions ask them to reason from structure and electron movement to a product they have not seen before. That gap cannot be closed by repetition, which is why it absorbs hours.

The expensive mistake is treating it as a volume problem. A student who does fifty mechanism questions without understanding why a nucleophile attacks where it does has reinforced a pattern-matching habit that will fail on an unfamiliar substrate. The cheap version is slower and shorter: four or five sessions spent on electron movement, on why a particular carbon is electron-poor, and on what a reagent is actually doing, after which the fifty questions become useful practice rather than a substitute for understanding.

Higher Level extends this material significantly, and the extensions are where the mark differences open up between a 5 and a 7. Synthetic routes, spectroscopic identification and the reasoning behind reaction conditions all appear, and all reward a student who can argue rather than recall. The data booklet and the spectroscopic data provided in the examination are part of this: a student who has practised using them reads a spectrum in a minute, and a student who has not loses five.

For budgeting purposes, allocate roughly a quarter of the two-year total to organic chemistry and expect to spend it in two concentrated phases rather than spread thinly. One phase in DP1 when the functional group work begins, one in DP2 when the Higher Level extensions and synthesis questions arrive. Spread across twenty-four weekly lessons it achieves less for the same money, because the reasoning has to be built in a run rather than revisited monthly.

05

Three places Al Garhoud families waste chemistry money

  • Textbook chapter order as a lesson plan means you are buying a second lecture
  • Independent past-paper work, not lesson count, is the limiting factor in DP1
  • Three sessions on the investigation criteria early beats a rescue block late
  • Ask what the first three sessions will diagnose, not how many are recommended

The first is paying for content coverage that the school is already providing competently. A Diploma chemistry teacher in a Dubai IB school is teaching the course to a class five times a fortnight. Paying a tutor to deliver the same content again, a week behind, is the most common form of waste in this market and it is easy to detect: if the tutor's lesson plan is the textbook chapter order rather than your child's specific loss points, you are buying a second lecture.

The second is buying intensity instead of diagnosis. Three sessions a week in DP1 feels like seriousness and usually is not, because the limiting factor at that stage is how much independent work the student does between lessons. A student doing one lesson a week and one timed past paper a fortnight will outperform a student doing three lessons and no independent work, at a third of the cost. Intensity earns its keep in the final six to ten weeks and rarely before.

The third is leaving the investigation to chance and then paying to rescue it. The Scientific Investigation is internally assessed on four criteria totalling 24 marks, and a student who has never had the criteria explained is guessing at what is being rewarded. Three sessions before the work starts is cheap. A panicked block in the week before the internal deadline is expensive, less effective, and the point at which families are most likely to be offered help that crosses the academic-honesty line.

Behind all three is the same error: buying hours rather than buying a plan. The question to ask any tutor before paying is not how many sessions they recommend but what the first three sessions will diagnose and how the plan changes depending on what they find. A tutor who answers that in specifics is worth the specialist band. A tutor who answers it with a number of sessions is selling hours.

06

The investigation: a defined block, a defined limit

Diploma chemistry includes an internally assessed Scientific Investigation, assessed against four criteria totalling 24 marks. Treat it as a separate purchase with a defined scope, because that is both the cheapest way to buy it and the clearest way to keep the academic-honesty boundary visible.

What the block legitimately contains: each criterion explained with its mark allocation, so the student knows what is being judged; a research question interrogated until the student can defend it; a challenge to whether the variable control does what the student claims; an explanation of what good uncertainty treatment and good evaluation look like, demonstrated on a different investigation; and written feedback on a draft the student has written. Three to five sessions covers all of it.

What the block cannot contain, at any price: designing the investigation, supplying the research question, writing any section, or redrafting the student's text to completion. The submission must be the student's own work. A breach is academic malpractice under IB rules and the consequence falls on the student's award. This search results set includes an operator selling completed Internal Assessments outright at a fixed price, which is the offer to refuse however difficult the term has become.

Scheduling is the free part of the saving. Investigation deadlines are set internally by the school, usually months before the examination session, and in most Dubai Diploma timetables they land near the mock examinations. A block placed before that collision costs the same as one placed inside it and achieves considerably more, because the student is not choosing between two deadlines. Ask the school for the internal date in September and book around it.

07

Receipts, VAT, permits and what to ask before paying

  • Confirm per hour or per session, and the cancellation notice, in writing
  • Ask simply whether the quoted figure includes VAT; no page should assert the treatment
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No regulator approves individual tutors or platforms; permits are issued to individuals and to institutes with premises

A few practical questions are worth asking before any money moves, and they take two minutes. The first is whether the quoted rate is per hour or per session, because a 45-minute session quoted at an hourly-sounding figure is a different price. The second is what happens to a cancelled or missed session and how much notice is required. The third is whether the rate is fixed for the year or revised mid-term, which matters over a two-year Diploma more than over a single term.

On tax, the honest position is narrow. This page makes no statement about how UAE VAT treats tuition fees, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and a tutoring site is not the place to read one. What a family can reasonably ask of any provider is simply whether a quoted figure includes VAT, and to get that answer in writing before paying. A provider who cannot answer that clearly is a provider to be careful with for other reasons too.

On permits, private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists it as private tutor licensing with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, any page quoting an amount is quoting something unverified.

Finally, two claims to discount when comparing quotes. Regulator approval: KHDA issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises, and a platform without one is not approved by anybody. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE premises, and claims no accreditation from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. And review ratings: pages in this search publish self-asserted star ratings, in one case two conflicting figures on the same page, which tells a parent nothing about whether a tutor can teach Higher Level organic chemistry.

08

What an Al Garhoud parent can verify for nothing

Before spending anything, there are four checks that cost nothing and remove most of the risk from the decision. They are all things a parent can do without knowing any chemistry.

Read the school's inspection report on the regulator's own site. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and inspects schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. The report tells you how the school's science provision is actually judged, which is useful context for deciding whether the problem you are solving is your child's or the class's. Ask the school for the Diploma chemistry scheme of work at the same time; a tutor working to it is worth more than one working to a textbook.

Use the free trial as an assessment rather than an introduction. Send a photograph of a recent marked chemistry test beforehand and ask the tutor to come with a view. By the end they should be able to name two or three specific loss points: a mechanism answer that did not show electron movement, an equilibrium calculation where the algebra failed rather than the chemistry, a command term answered as describe when it asked for explain. Three statements of that kind mean the diagnosis is real and the specialist band is justified.

Then watch your child for the last ten minutes of the trial. A chemistry student who is being taught well is doing most of the talking and getting stuck in public. If the tutor is explaining and your child is nodding, the lesson is a lecture, and lectures are free. Finally, ask directly what the tutor will not do with the Scientific Investigation. An answer with a clear limit in it is a good sign about everything else, and an offer to look over and improve the write-up is the answer to walk away from.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Garhoud

Online delivery means one chemistry specialist serves the whole Deira-side cluster. These are the neighbourhoods Al Garhoud families book from, with the local detail that bears on cost or scheduling.

Al Garhoud

Small, low-rise and bounded by the Creek, Garhoud Bridge and the airport perimeter. Short school runs, but an in-home tutor arriving at 17:00 pays for the bridge approach in travel time, and that travel sits inside the hourly rate.

Dubai Festival City

Adjacent across Al Rebat Street, with its own IB continuum school. Diploma students here often share bus routes with Garhoud, so the same evening slots and the same budgeting arithmetic apply on both sides.

Deira

Older and denser, served by the Green Line. Smaller apartments make a visiting tutor at the dining table a practical problem, which is one reason online delivery costs less and works better here.

Oud Metha

Across Al Maktoum Bridge, where many Garhoud Diploma students actually study. Earlier finishing times open a 16:30 slot, and earlier slots are easier to book than peak evening ones.

Al Karama

Dense apartment living with many secondary-age students. Households here often run two children through consecutive evening slots, which is the cheapest way to cover two levels with one tutor relationship.

Al Mamzar

Northern coastal Deira with the longest bus loops to the Garhoud and Festival City schools. Fifty-minute runs push the first workable slot to 17:15, which is also the most contested hour of the week.

Al Qusais

Large corridor towards Sharjah with several schools of its own. Families travelling to Sharjah in the evening take earlier slots, which are generally easier to secure at short notice.

Hor Al Anz and Al Nahda

Inner and outer Deira, with school destinations on both sides of the Creek. Session timing is set by the school timetable rather than the home address, so the budgeting conversation starts there.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Garhoud

Al Garhoud and Dubai Festival City

The immediate ring. Between them these schools run the IB continuum, British and American curricula, and their published fee bands are the context against which any tutoring budget should be read. Fee information and inspection reports are available on the regulator's own site rather than through a tutoring page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked script and the school's scheme of work

A photograph of a recent marked chemistry test, the year group, the level and the school. With the scheme of work alongside it, the first lesson diagnoses instead of introducing, and the two-year plan can be shaped around the school's actual sequence.

  2. 02

Free trial run as a diagnosis

No payment, and the test is specificity. The tutor should finish able to name two or three loss points: a mechanism without electron movement, an equilibrium calculation where the algebra failed, a command term answered wrongly. General reassurance is a failed trial.

  3. 03

Agree the phase plan and the total, not just the rate

Bridging block if needed, weekly intensity through DP1, the investigation block timed to the school's internal deadline, maintenance through DP2 and the run-in. Knowing the shape of the spend in September prevents it accumulating by accident.

  4. 04

Weekly lessons with a written note each time

One lesson in the agreed slot, one past-paper question marked against the published mark scheme, and a short note afterwards naming what was missed and what comes next. The note is how progress stays visible without sitting in on lessons.

  5. 05

Reassess at the mock and adjust the spend

After mocks the script is reviewed and the remaining plan rewritten around what it showed. If the student needs fewer lessons and more independent past-paper work, or a different specialist for the run-in, that is said plainly rather than left to run.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A total, not an hourly rate

Diploma chemistry taken seriously runs 60 to 90 tutored hours across two years. Planning the phases in September gives a family a number to decide about, instead of a spend that accumulates one session at a time until it is larger than anyone intended.

Market rates published and attributed

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this search publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars. Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or dataset that published it, so a quote you receive can be measured against the band it belongs to.

The travel premium named for what it is

In-home rates in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online. Online delivery removes the Creek crossing from the bill, and across a two-year Diploma that difference converts into a meaningful number of extra teaching hours.

Diagnosis before hours

The expensive skill in chemistry is reading a mark scheme and naming what is missing. Buying hours from someone who cannot do that means re-teaching content the student already has, which costs the specialist budget anyway and arrives at the paper with the same problem.

A defined, limited investigation block

Three to five sessions, timed to the school's internal deadline, covering the criteria, the design and feedback on the student's own draft. Not designing it, not writing it, not redrafting it to completion, because the award at risk is the student's.

Free trial before anything is paid

The judgement about whether a tutor can diagnose is made by watching one lesson, which costs nothing. A family that pays for a term in advance and finds out in week four has lost the term; a free trial converts that risk into an hour.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Garhoud: your questions answered

What does a full two years of IB chemistry tutoring cost for an Al Garhoud family?+

At published Dubai specialist rates of AED 200 to 300 an hour, a planned two-year Diploma chemistry programme of roughly 71 to 81 hours comes to about AED 14,200 to 24,300 in total. That covers a short bridging block before DP1, weekly lessons through DP1, a three-to-five session investigation block, lighter maintenance through DP2 and a six-to-ten week run-in. The figures use the rate band that TutorChase and Bestimate publish rather than any IB Gram price. The point of the breakdown is that DP1, not the final term, dominates the total, which is the opposite of how most families plan it.

How many tutoring hours does a Diploma chemistry grade actually take?+

Between 60 and 90 across the two years for a student taken seriously with weekly support, depending on the starting point and whether the Scientific Investigation needs a dedicated block. Standard Level sits at the lower end, around 50 to 65, because the usual problem is pace rather than depth. Higher Level sits at the upper end because the extensions in organic chemistry, equilibrium and energetics absorb a disproportionate share. A student who does one timed past paper a fortnight independently needs materially fewer tutored hours than one who does none.

Is it cheaper to hire a chemistry tutor who comes to our villa in Al Garhoud?+

No, and it is not a service IB Gram offers. Published in-home rates across Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 table showing AED 180 to 350, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online. Monthly packages make the gap starker: around AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions while AED 1,599 to 1,799 buys four two-hour in-home sessions. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, since in-home tutoring is an India-only service, and a good part of the premium pays for a car crossing the Creek at 17:00.

Should we spend more in DP1 or save the budget for the final term?+

Spend steadily in DP1. It feels prudent to economise early and buy heavily before the papers, and it is usually false economy, because the gaps left in DP1 are exactly what make the final block long. A student who stayed level with the school's sequence needs sixteen to twenty intensive hours in the run-in; a student who did not can need twice that and still arrive short. The cheapest version of the two-year plan is a low weekly intensity through DP1 that catches misconceptions in the week they form, plus a dense run-in.

Where do Dubai families most often waste money on chemistry tuition?+

Three places. Paying for content coverage the school is already delivering competently, which shows up as a tutor whose lesson plan follows textbook chapter order rather than your child's loss points. Buying intensity instead of diagnosis, since three lessons a week in DP1 achieves less than one lesson plus independent past-paper work. And leaving the Scientific Investigation to chance and then paying to rescue it in the week before the internal deadline, which is both expensive and the moment a family is most likely to be offered help that crosses the academic-honesty line.

Why does organic chemistry absorb so many tutoring hours?+

Because at Higher Level it stops being memorisable. Students learn reactions as a list of facts, and the questions ask them to reason from structure and electron movement to a product they have not met before. Doing fifty mechanism questions without that reasoning reinforces pattern-matching that fails on an unfamiliar substrate. The cheaper route is four or five sessions on electron movement and on what a reagent is actually doing, after which practice becomes useful. Budget roughly a quarter of the two-year total here, in two concentrated phases rather than spread thinly.

Is a budget chemistry tutor at AED 60 an hour ever the right choice?+

For MYP Sciences or an IGCSE chemistry catch-up, often yes. Budget online tutoring in Dubai is advertised from around AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52, and for foundational content that band can be entirely adequate. For Higher Level Diploma chemistry it usually is not, because what it tends to omit is diagnosis. An hour spent re-teaching bonding to a student whose problem is mechanism reasoning is cheap in isolation and expensive in aggregate, and the aggregate is what you pay.

How much does the Scientific Investigation block cost, and what does it include?+

Three to five sessions, which at the published specialist band of AED 200 to 300 an hour is roughly AED 600 to 1,500 as a one-off. It includes each of the four criteria explained with its mark allocation, the research question interrogated until the student can defend it, a challenge to whether the variable control does what the student claims, an explanation of good uncertainty treatment using a different investigation as the example, and written feedback on a draft the student wrote. Per mark it is the best-value purchase across the two years.

Can a tutor help write my daughter's chemistry investigation if we pay more?+

No, at any price. The submission must be the student's own work, and a breach is academic malpractice under IB rules with the consequence falling on her award rather than on the tutor. What a tutor can legitimately do is explain what each criterion rewards, question her research design, challenge her variable control, show what good evaluation looks like on a different investigation, and give written feedback on a draft she has written herself. This search results set includes an operator selling completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; that is the offer to refuse.

Does a quoted chemistry tutoring rate in Dubai include VAT?+

Ask the provider and get the answer in writing before paying. This page makes no statement about how UAE VAT treats tuition fees, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation and a tutoring site is not a source for tax treatment. What is reasonable to expect is a clear answer to a simple question: is the figure quoted inclusive or exclusive. While you are asking, settle two more: whether the rate is per hour or per session, and what notice is required to cancel. A provider who cannot answer those plainly is worth being careful with.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze affect what we should spend on tutoring?+

It makes the budget easier to plan rather than larger. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the largest line in the education budget flat, the sensible response is to decide the tutoring total deliberately in September rather than let it accumulate session by session. Tutoring is now the line that moves, which means it is the line worth planning.

Is a group chemistry class in Deira better value than one-to-one?+

Per hour, yes, because the cost is shared. The question is what the hour achieves. A group class works on content coverage and cannot spend twenty minutes on your child's specific problem with equilibrium algebra, which is usually the reason you started looking. It also puts a journey back into an afternoon that was already tight, and the Creek crossing at 17:00 is exactly what you were avoiding. Many Al Garhoud families use a group class or school support for coverage in DP1 and buy one-to-one time for diagnosis and the run-in.

What should I ask a chemistry tutor before paying for a term?+

Not how many sessions they recommend. Ask what the first three sessions will diagnose and how the plan changes depending on what they find. A tutor who answers in specifics, naming the strands they would test and the question types they would use, is worth the specialist band. One who answers with a session count is selling hours. Then ask directly what they will not do with the Scientific Investigation. A clear stated limit is a good signal about everything else, and an offer to look over and improve the write-up is the answer to walk away from.

Do chemistry tutors in Dubai need a permit, and does it cost anything?+

They do, and it is free. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists the route as private tutor licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, but no fine schedule is published.

How do I judge whether a chemistry tutor is worth the specialist rate?+

Run the free trial as an assessment. Send a photograph of a recent marked test beforehand and ask the tutor to come with a view on it. By the end they should name two or three specific loss points: a mechanism answer that did not show electron movement, an equilibrium calculation where the algebra failed rather than the chemistry, a command term answered as describe when the question asked for explain. Then watch your child for the last ten minutes. If the tutor is explaining and your child is nodding, you are paying for a lecture.

When should chemistry tutoring start if my son begins the Diploma next September?+

In the summer before DP1, with a short bridging block of around six sessions on moles, concentration and stoichiometric reasoning. At published specialist rates that is roughly AED 1,200 to 1,800, and nothing else on a two-year plan has that return, because an insecure mole concept quietly corrupts titration, energetics and equilibrium work for two years afterwards. Students arriving from MYP Sciences usually need the quantitative work; students arriving from a British-curriculum Year 11 more often need experimental design. The diagnosis in the free trial tells you which.

Decide the total in September, not in April

An IB chemistry tutor in Al Garhoud is a two-year purchase, and the families who spend least are the ones who plan the phases before DP1 starts rather than buying hours as problems appear. Send a photograph of a recent marked script with the school, year group and level, and ask the school for the chemistry scheme of work. The first lesson is free and is used to find the two or three places marks are actually going, which is also the test of whether a tutor is worth the specialist band. Nobody can promise a grade, and the published AED figures on this page belong to the providers that published them, not to us.
