IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Furjan

Most families looking for an IB chemistry tutor in Al Furjan start with an hourly rate, which is the wrong end of the question. Chemistry support is worth buying for specific components: organic mechanisms, energetics sign conventions and a Scientific Investigation carrying twenty per cent. This page prices those honestly, with every AED figure attributed, and explains how IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video.

  • Every AED figure attributed to the provider that published it
  • Matched by level: Higher or Standard, confirmed before the trial
  • Investigation support on the student's own work, in writing
  • One-to-one over live video; no tutor visits a UAE address

IB & IGCSE in Al Furjan

Buy components, not hours

Chemistry is the Diploma subject where spending decisions are made worst, because the hourly rate is the only number most families compare. The useful question is which components are worth paying to support. In IB Chemistry there are three with a clear answer: organic mechanisms, where marks are lost for notation that can be taught in a few sessions; energetics, where sign conventions cost marks across every paper; and the Scientific Investigation, which carries twenty per cent of the grade on its own.

That last figure reframes the whole budget. Twenty per cent of a subject grade sits in a report of up to three thousand words, written at home, decided largely by the research question and the quality of the data collected. Both of those are fixed months before the writing. A family that spends nothing until the spring of Diploma 2 is buying help for the remaining eighty per cent, at a higher rate, in a tighter market.

The Dubai market itself is knowable. Published online rates for a qualified subject tutor run AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one including travel runs AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate's Dubai table, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner end. All read in October 2026.

Al Furjan sits awkwardly in that market. The community is residential, between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Yalayis Road, and Chemistry Higher Level is one of the scarcer specialisms in the Jebel Ali and Dubai South corridor. So the travel premium here buys the smallest possible pool: the tutor who will drive into the villa districts for 17:00 is frequently comfortable to Standard Level and no further. That is a more expensive mistake than any hourly rate.

IB Gram runs every UAE lesson one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30, and no tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. Removing the drive removes the premium and widens the pool at the same time, which is the only way a Masakin or Quortaj family reliably reaches a Higher Level chemistry specialist.

The rest of this page sets out what the current syllabus actually contains, where chemistry marks go, what each component costs in hours rather than in rhetoric, and where families in this corridor overspend. Our own rates are not on this page, because a price without a subject, a level and a number of weeks attached is a number that misleads. They get discussed after the free trial, when there is a component, a level and a timeframe to attach them to.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry spending behaves differently at each stage, because what the money protects changes. These are the stages an Al Furjan family will pass through.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme sciences

Assessed on criteria A to D on an eight-point scale, with processing and evaluating data the strand that most consistently costs marks. Chemistry content at this stage is light relative to Diploma demands, so the valuable work is not more content but the quantitative habits the Diploma assumes: moles arithmetic, significant figures, and writing a method with controlled variables named.

This is the cheapest stage to buy and the one skipped most often in Al Furjan. Middle Years students here are home between 15:40 and 16:30, so a 17:00 session fits easily. A weekly session in MYP 4 and 5 costs a fraction of a Diploma 2 rescue block and decides whether Chemistry Higher Level is a realistic choice two years later.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Organised around structure and reactivity rather than a numbered topic list, with continuous reference to the data booklet provided in the exam. Assessment is Paper 1, split into multiple choice and a data-based section, Paper 2 with short and extended response, and the Scientific Investigation at twenty per cent. Higher Level deepens the same framework rather than adding separate topics.

Diploma students from Al Furjan travel to the Al Barsha or Al Khail corridor for school, so chemistry sessions here usually start at 18:00 or later. Higher Level Chemistry is among the scarcer specialisms in this part of Dubai, which is why in-home hiring in the villa districts so often produces a tutor working one level below the student.

IADiploma 1 into Diploma 2

The Scientific Investigation

One independent investigation reported in up to three thousand words, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and worth twenty per cent of the grade. In chemistry the commonest failure is a question whose chemistry is sound and whose measurement is impossible with school equipment, which produces data too scattered to support any conclusion.

The cost pattern here is stark. One early session on the research question costs an hour; rebuilding an investigation in the final term costs several and still scores lower, because the data cannot be recollected. Tutors read the criteria with the student, question the design, teach the uncertainty treatment, and give written feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written by the tutor.

BRIDGESummer after Year 11

From IGCSE Chemistry into the Diploma

IGCSE Chemistry builds recall, equations and single-step moles calculations. The Diploma expects confident stoichiometry under time pressure, formal energetics with sign conventions, mechanism notation, and extended written explanation. The gap is quantitative and notational rather than conceptual, which means targeted work closes it quickly and general revision does not.

Four to six summer sessions is the normal size of this block and the best-value purchase in the sequence. It matters particularly in this corridor because families usually change schools for the Diploma, given the limited full Diploma provision nearby, so a new school and unfamiliar quantitative demands would otherwise arrive in the same term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry support requests from this corridor cluster in a few predictable places. These are the components and neighbouring subjects, with a note on what each costs in hours when it is weak.

Chemistry HL

Higher Level

The structure and reactivity framework at greater depth, with longer quantitative chains and extended explanations built from a named principle. The scarcest chemistry specialism in this part of Dubai, so the component where online matching earns the most. Usually needs a weekly session across both Diploma years rather than a block.

Chemistry SL

Standard Level

The same framework with reduced depth and the identical Scientific Investigation at twenty per cent. Families often under-buy here on the assumption that Standard Level is light; the investigation and the data-based paper make the same demands, and most Standard Level marks are lost in exactly those places.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

HL and SL

The single best-value block in the subject. Marks go to notation as much as to understanding: curly arrows drawn from the right place, lone pairs shown, intermediates represented properly. Four to six sessions typically converts a student who understands mechanisms into one who scores on them.

Energetics and thermodynamics

HL and SL

Enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs energy, where sign conventions cost marks across every paper and in the investigation. A student who is confident with the chemistry and careless with signs loses marks consistently and invisibly, and the fix is drilled convention work rather than more theory.

Stoichiometry and quantitative chemistry

HL and SL

Moles, concentration, limiting reagents, percentage yield and gas calculations. Everything else in chemistry routes through this, which makes a weakness here expensive: it shows up as poor marks in topics the student actually understands. Usually two to four sessions of pure arithmetic practice.

Reaction kinetics and equilibrium

HL and SL

Rate expressions, orders of reaction, equilibrium constants and Le Chatelier reasoning. Higher Level adds depth that catches students who learned the ideas qualitatively. The reliable loss is explaining a shift without naming which quantity changes and in which direction.

Acids, bases and redox

HL and SL

pH calculations, buffers, titration curves and electrochemistry. Titration curve questions reward reading the graph rather than recalling a shape, and redox questions reward systematic half-equation work. Both are procedural and respond quickly to practice with marked feedback.

The Scientific Investigation

HL and SL

Twenty per cent of the grade, up to three thousand words, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The research question and the data decide the mark. Four to six sessions, and the earliest of them is worth more than all the rest combined.

Paper 1B: data-based questions

HL and SL

A written examination of experimental skill: processing data, plotting, interpreting gradients, handling uncertainty and using the data booklet. Students revise content and leave this to chance, which makes it the most recoverable set of marks in the subject for a modest number of hours.

Mathematics for Chemistry

Supporting both levels

Logarithms for pH, rearrangement, standard form and proportional reasoning. Where a student understands the chemistry but stalls on the arithmetic, the correct purchase is mathematics support rather than more chemistry, and one session with a marked paper distinguishes the two.

Physics and Biology alongside Chemistry

HL and SL

Both share the investigation structure and the same uncertainty demands, so families frequently arrange two sciences. Where one tutor genuinely covers both to the level needed that is efficient; where they do not, two specialists outperform one generalist and we will say which applies.

Extended Essay in Chemistry

Core

Four thousand words of supervised independent research. Chemistry essays fail on access to equipment and on scope rather than on ambition, and that is diagnosable in one early session. Support is questioning the question and feedback on the student's own drafts, never drafting.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

How chemistry support is bought matters as much as the rate. These patterns are chosen by what is being protected rather than by budget.

Weekly session across both Diploma years

One sixty-minute session a week from the autumn of Diploma 1. Spread across two years this is the lowest total-cost option that actually changes a chemistry outcome, because it protects the investigation marks and keeps stoichiometry fluent rather than chasing exam technique after the internal work is submitted.

  • Lowest total spend per grade moved in this subject
  • Protects the twenty per cent that a spring block cannot reach
  • Keeps moles arithmetic and sign conventions in active use
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise

Organic mechanisms block

Four to six sessions on mechanism notation alone, bought as a defined block with an end date. This is the clearest value-for-money purchase in IB Chemistry, because the marks lost are notational rather than conceptual: arrows from the right place, lone pairs shown, intermediates represented correctly.

  • Fixed number of sessions with the total known in advance
  • Targets notation, which is where the marks actually go
  • Works from the student's own marked mechanism answers
  • Converts to weekly only if you choose to continue

Investigation block, scheduled early

Four to six sessions attached to the Scientific Investigation, starting with the research question and the measurement plan rather than the write-up. The earliest session is worth more than the rest combined, because a question that cannot be measured with school equipment cannot be rescued once the data exists.

  • Research question and measurement feasibility questioned first
  • Criteria read against the student's own draft, strand by strand
  • Feedback in writing so the school can see the support
  • No drafting, rewriting or supplied analysis at any stage

Pre-mock component drilling

Two shorter sessions a week from the mock window, treating Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 as three separate preparations. Timed multiple-choice sets, pure data work with the booklet open, and written answers marked against command terms. Bought as a block of weeks rather than an open commitment.

  • Paper 1B practised as experimental skill, not content revision
  • Paper 2 answers marked against the command term used
  • Data booklet used in every session so it is familiar in the exam
  • Defined end date rather than a rolling monthly charge

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Furjan

01

What each chemistry component is worth paying to support

Rather than quote an hourly rate and leave a family to guess, it is more useful to say which components repay support and roughly how many hours each takes. Chemistry divides neatly here. Some areas are notational and fix fast. Some are arithmetic and need drilling. One carries twenty per cent of the grade and is decided months before it is written. A budget built on that map goes further than one built on a rate comparison.

The best return in the subject is organic mechanism notation. Students who understand mechanisms perfectly well lose marks for arrows drawn from the wrong place, missing lone pairs, and intermediates represented loosely. Four to six sessions typically converts understanding into marks, and at the published mid-market online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour that is a known and modest total for a visible gain across every paper.

The second best is the data-based section of Paper 1, which is effectively a written practical: processing, plotting, gradients, uncertainty and using the data booklet. Students revise content and leave this to chance. Three or four sessions of pure data work usually moves more marks than the same hours spent on any single area of content, because the skills recur in the investigation as well.

The most consequential is the Scientific Investigation at twenty per cent. The cost asymmetry here is extreme: one early session on the research question and the measurement plan, against several late sessions that cannot recover data already collected badly. Any chemistry budget that does not include that early hour is mis-sequenced, whatever the hourly rate attached to it.

02

Structure and reactivity: what the current syllabus actually looks like

IB Chemistry is no longer organised as a numbered topic list. The course is built around two organising ideas: structure, covering models of the particulate nature of matter, bonding and classification; and reactivity, covering what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far they go, and the mechanisms by which they happen. Higher Level deepens the same framework rather than appending separate higher-level topics.

This matters when hiring, because a tutor working from an older guide plans revision against a structure the school no longer uses. The symptom is subtle: the content taught is correct, the sequence does not match the school's scheme of work, and the student ends up holding two mental maps of the same subject. Asking a tutor to describe the course's organisation takes ten seconds and settles it.

The framework also changes what good revision looks like. Because bonding and structure underpin reactivity, revising them as separate blocks produces a student who can describe a bond and cannot predict a reaction. The questions on the papers routinely require both at once. Cross-cutting work on why a structure produces a particular reactivity is what the assessment rewards, and it is rarely how a topic-based plan is built.

One further feature worth knowing is the data booklet. Chemistry is examined with a data booklet provided, containing constants, values and spectroscopic information. Students who meet it for the first time in the exam waste minutes locating entries. Using it in every session from the start costs nothing and saves time under pressure, which is why a tutor should have it open routinely rather than occasionally.

Where chemistry marks actually go

  • Sign conventions in energetics, lost silently in every calculation
  • Describing when the command term asked for an explanation
  • Mechanism notation: arrows, lone pairs, charges, intermediates
  • Chemical tests answered as a list rather than observation plus conclusion

Chemistry grades are rarely lost to ignorance of content. They are lost to four specific behaviours, and a parent paying for support should know which of the four they are buying a fix for. The first is sign conventions in energetics: enthalpy and Gibbs energy calculations where the chemistry is understood and the sign is wrong, which costs the mark every time and is almost never noticed by the student.

The second is describing where the paper asked for explaining. A trend stated without its cause earns little. Periodicity questions, bonding and property questions and equilibrium shift questions all reward naming the mechanism or the quantity that changes. This is a command-term problem rather than a chemistry problem, and the fix is written answers marked against the command used, then rewritten once.

The third is mechanism notation. Curly arrows starting from the wrong place, lone pairs omitted, charges unassigned and intermediates drawn loosely. Students find this unfair because they understand the chemistry, and the marker is not assessing understanding in the abstract. It is the most quickly fixable loss in the subject and therefore the best value for a short block of sessions.

The fourth is chemical tests and observations, inherited from IGCSE habits. The paper asks what would be seen and what that shows, and the answer awards credit for the observation and for the conclusion separately. A student who learned the tests as a memorised list produces one of the two. Together these four behaviours account for most of the gap between what a Dubai chemistry student knows and what they score.

04

The Scientific Investigation, and the price of starting late

  • Twenty per cent of the grade, decided before the writing starts
  • The usual chemistry failure is a question that cannot be measured
  • One early design hour outperforms eight late rescue hours
  • A tutor questions and teaches; the student designs, collects and writes

The Scientific Investigation is one report of up to three thousand words, worth twenty per cent of the Chemistry grade at both levels, assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The cost argument on this page rests on a single fact about it: the mark is largely determined by the research question and the quality of the data, and both are fixed long before any writing happens.

In chemistry the usual failure is specific. A student chooses a question with sound chemistry behind it and no realistic measurement route using school equipment. Concentration changes too small to detect, reaction times too fast to time by hand, or temperature changes within the noise of the thermometer. The chemistry is right and the data is unusable, and no amount of good writing at the end recovers it.

That is why the cost comparison is so lopsided. One session before the question is fixed, spent asking what will be measured, with what precision, over what range, and with how many repeats, costs an hour at market rates. Rebuilding an investigation in the final term costs five to eight hours, cannot recollect the data, and still scores below what the early hour would have secured. Families in this corridor regularly discover this in Diploma 2.

The boundary on help is absolute and stated at the first session. A tutor may read the four criteria with the student, question the design and the measurement plan, teach the uncertainty and graphical treatment the data needs, show how published work structures an analysis, and give written feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor may not write the report, process the data, supply the analysis, or outline it for the student to complete. At least one provider in this market sells completed internal assessments; the malpractice exposure from that falls on the student.

05

The free things to use before paying for anything

Three useful resources in this subject cost nothing, and a family that uses them buys tutoring more precisely afterwards. The first is the data booklet. It is provided in the examination and contains the constants, values and spectroscopic data students waste time hunting for. Working with it open from the first week of the course is free and removes a real source of lost time in the exam room.

The second is the school's own subject clinic. The teacher who set and marked the assessment is better placed than anyone to explain the marking of it, and in most Dubai schools that time exists and is under-used. It is limited and rarely diagnostic across a whole syllabus, but for a specific question about a specific marked answer it is both free and immediate.

The third is the KHDA inspection report for your child's school. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes reports naming subject-level strengths and weaknesses rather than a single verdict. If science attainment is flagged across the school, you are buying support for a structural problem; if the department is strong, the diagnosis is individual. That changes how you brief a tutor.

Only after those three does paid chemistry support become a well-specified purchase: you know the component, the behaviour losing the marks, and whether the school can address it. That is what we ask for at the start, and it is why the free trial is built around a marked paper rather than a general conversation about how your child is finding chemistry.

06

A two-year chemistry plan against a six-week rescue

The arithmetic that matters to a household is the total, not the hourly rate, so here it is both ways. At the published mid-market online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, one weekly session across a thirty-six week year costs roughly AED 5,400 to 10,800. Across both Diploma years in chemistry alone that is AED 10,800 to 21,600, and it protects the investigation marks as well as the written papers.

The alternative pattern most families default to is nothing until the spring of Diploma 2, then twenty hours in six weeks at specialist rates of AED 300 to 450, which is AED 6,000 to 9,000. The spend is lower. The ceiling is lower with it, because twenty per cent of the grade has already been submitted and cannot be touched, and because stoichiometry fluency cannot be rebuilt in six weeks while also revising content.

Between those sits the pattern we see work best in this corridor: a weekly session through Diploma 1 at mid-market rates, a defined organic mechanisms block, an early investigation design session, and two shorter sessions a week through the mock window. Sixty to eighty hours over two years, somewhere between AED 9,000 and AED 24,000, with the hours placed where they protect marks rather than where panic puts them.

Context is worth stating too. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's economic incentives package. A family planning chemistry support is working against a stable fee base this year, which makes a planned two-year commitment easier to carry than an unplanned emergency one.

Is there a Higher Level chemistry tutor near Al Furjan?

  • Higher Level chemistry is scarcer in this corridor than mathematics
  • The travel premium shrinks the pool you choose from
  • Level gaps appear first on extended response and sign conventions
  • January and February are the tightest weeks for evening slots

The honest answer is that Higher Level chemistry is one of the thinner specialisms in this part of Dubai, and a family should not build a plan on the assumption of a local match. Al Furjan is residential, and the Diploma chemistry teachers in the city work near the schools that run the programme, which in the Jebel Ali and Dubai South corridor are fewer than in Al Barsha, Al Khail or Jumeirah.

Requiring Higher Level specifically, in a fixed evening slot, within a reasonable drive of the villa districts, reduces the pool to a handful of people who are generally already committed. What families then do is take the nearest competent science tutor. At Standard Level that sometimes works. At Higher Level the gap appears within two sessions, usually on extended response marking or on energetics sign discipline.

This is also where the travel premium becomes an actively bad purchase rather than a neutral one. Paying AED 150 extra an hour for a tutor who can reach Al Furjan by 17:00 is paying to shrink the pool you are choosing from. In a scarce specialism that is the wrong direction, and it is the single clearest cost argument for online delivery on this page.

IB Gram matches by subject and level and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address, since home visiting is an India-only service. Where we cannot cover a request we say so rather than substituting a Standard Level tutor. Availability tightens in January and February, when every Diploma 2 family in Dubai wants the same evening slots.

08

What no amount of money should buy

  • No completed investigations, essays or coursework, at any price
  • Tutors question, teach and give written feedback on the student's own work
  • Official documents cited and linked, never reproduced
  • No grade guarantees and no unevidenced examiner claims

There is one purchase available in this market that a family should refuse. At least one UAE provider advertises completed internal assessments at a fixed price. The transaction looks like a shortcut and is a transfer of risk: the IB treats submitted work that is not the student's own as malpractice, and the exposure falls on the student and their Diploma rather than on the seller.

The legitimate alternative is not a weaker version of the same thing. A tutor can read the assessment criteria with the student, interrogate the research question and the measurement plan, teach the uncertainty and graphical treatment the data requires, show how published work structures an argument, and give written feedback on the student's own drafts against each criterion. Most of the recoverable marks live inside that list.

We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those are cited and linked, and sessions work from what the school has issued to the student. For published documents that is a copyright matter, and for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure for the student, so neither risk is worth taking to save a download.

Two further limits. We do not predict or guarantee grades, for chemistry or anything else; a promised grade is a sales device rather than a teaching plan. And we do not describe tutors as IB examiners without evidence of current status, nor use examiner status to imply access to marking, boundaries or paper content, because it confers none of those things.

Where we tutor

Al Furjan and the corridor that shares its rates

Tutoring quotes in Dubai follow driving distance rather than neighbourhood. These communities are reached on the same journey as Al Furjan and are quoted in the same band.

Al Furjan

Villa and townhouse districts with two Route 2020 metro stations. In-home quotes sit at the upper end of the published Dubai band because the drive from the northern tutor clusters is long in evening traffic.

Discovery Gardens

Apartments immediately north, quoted at the same rates and reached on the same drive. Many families here choose online for space reasons rather than financial ones.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds several schools Al Furjan children attend, so some teachers are already in the area by day and quote a smaller travel premium for an adjacent evening booking.

Jebel Ali

Further from the northern tutor clusters, so quotes run higher again. The 19:00 slot many free zone families need is the one visiting tutors price hardest or decline.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest districts and furthest from the city's specialist supply, so in-home quotes here are the highest in this corridor and Higher Level availability the thinnest.

Green Community

Inside Dubai Investments Park and minutes from school. The one place in this corridor where an in-home booking at a reasonable rate is genuinely easy to arrange.

Dubai Production City

Closer to the Al Barsha tutor cluster along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, so quotes land nearer the middle of the published Dubai band.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the component and the timing

Chemistry Higher Level, Diploma 2, losing marks on mechanisms and energetics, investigation due in February. Add the earliest time your child is at the desk after the Al Furjan bus. Those facts decide both the specialist and whether what you want is achievable in the hours you have in mind.

  2. 02

We match by level and name the tutor

You are told who will teach, whether they work to the current structure and reactivity framework, and whether they have marked Scientific Investigations. If Higher Level cannot be matched we say so rather than offering a Standard Level tutor and letting you find the gap in week six.

  3. 03

Free trial around a marked paper

Bring a marked Paper 2 or a mechanism answer and ask what pattern connects the lost marks. A specialist names behaviours: sign conventions, describing instead of explaining, arrows from the wrong atom. No payment is taken for the trial and there is no obligation afterwards.

  4. 04

Agree the components and the total

A weekly session, a defined mechanisms block, or an investigation block with an end date. The number of sessions is agreed in advance, so the commitment is a known figure rather than a rolling monthly charge nobody reviews until the term ends.

  5. 05

    Put the investigation session first

If the Scientific Investigation is ahead, the design conversation belongs before the question is fixed. One hour spent asking what will be measured, how precisely and over what range protects a share of twenty per cent that no later session can recover.

  6. 06

Written notes and a review against the calendar

A short note after each session naming what was covered and set, so you can see what the money bought. Every few weeks we check progress against the school's internal deadlines rather than hours delivered, moving to two shorter sessions a week before mocks and back afterwards.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by component, not by adjective

This page says which chemistry components repay support and roughly how many hours each takes, at published market rates. That is more useful to a household than an hourly figure with nothing attached to it, and it is how a budget gets sequenced correctly.

Every AED figure carries its source

Each rate names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Three of the most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote US dollars, a currency Dubai families do not transact in.

The twenty per cent protected first

The Scientific Investigation is decided by the research question and the data, both fixed before any writing. We put the design session early, because one hour there outperforms eight hours of rescue work later in the year.

No travel premium to shrink the pool

Higher Level chemistry is scarce in the Jebel Ali corridor, so paying for proximity means choosing from fewer specialists. Online delivery removes the drive from the rate and widens the pool at the same time.

A known total, not a rolling charge

Sessions are agreed as a weekly slot for a term or a defined block with an end date. Open-ended monthly arrangements are how tutoring spend grows without anyone deciding that it should, and chemistry is a subject where that happens often.

Clear about what cannot be bought

No completed investigations, no reproduced mark schemes, no guaranteed grades and no unevidenced examiner claims. In a market where completed internal assessments are sold outright, declining to is the most useful thing we can tell you.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Furjan: your questions answered

What does IB chemistry tutoring cost for a family in Al Furjan?+

Published Dubai market rates, read in October 2026, put a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one including travel runs AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and BartyED publishes AED 650. Those are other providers' figures, not an IB Gram price list, which is discussed after the free trial.

Which chemistry component gives the best return on a small budget?+

Organic mechanism notation. Students who understand mechanisms lose marks for arrows drawn from the wrong place, missing lone pairs, unassigned charges and loosely drawn intermediates. Four to six sessions typically converts understanding into marks, and at the published AED 150 to 300 band that is a known total of roughly AED 600 to 1,800 for a gain visible across both written papers. The second best is the data-based section of Paper 1, which three or four sessions of pure processing work usually improves.

Why is starting chemistry support in the spring of Diploma 2 expensive?+

Because twenty per cent of the grade has already gone. The Scientific Investigation is submitted months before the papers, and its mark is set by the research question and the quality of the data, neither of which can be recollected. A twenty-hour spring block at specialist rates of AED 300 to 450 costs AED 6,000 to 9,000 and can only address the remaining written marks. A weekly session from Diploma 1 at mid-market rates costs more in total and reaches everything.

How is IB Chemistry organised now?+

Around two organising ideas rather than a numbered topic list: structure, covering particulate models, bonding and classification; and reactivity, covering what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far they go, and the mechanisms involved. Higher Level deepens the same framework instead of adding separate topics. Ask a tutor to describe that organisation. One working from an older guide will teach correct content in a sequence that does not match the school's scheme of work, which leaves the student holding two maps of one subject.

What is the commonest way a chemistry investigation fails in Dubai schools?+

A question with sound chemistry and no realistic measurement route using school equipment. Concentration changes too small to detect, reactions too fast to time by hand, temperature changes inside the thermometer's noise. The chemistry is right and the data is unusable, and good writing at the end cannot recover it. One session before the question is fixed, asking what will be measured, how precisely, over what range and with how many repeats, prevents nearly all of these.

Where do Dubai chemistry students lose marks they should have kept?+

Four places. Sign conventions in energetics, where the chemistry is understood and the sign is wrong, which costs the mark silently every time. Describing a trend when the command term asked for an explanation. Mechanism notation. And chemical tests answered as a memorised list rather than as an observation plus a conclusion, which is an IGCSE habit carried forward. Together those four account for most of the gap between what a student knows and what they score, and all four are fixable.

Is the data booklet worth using in every session?+

Yes, and it costs nothing. Chemistry is examined with a data booklet provided, containing constants, values and spectroscopic information, and students who meet it for the first time in the exam lose minutes locating entries under pressure. Having it open in every session from the start of the course makes it familiar by the time it matters. A tutor who only produces it occasionally is leaving free marks on the table, and it is a fair thing to ask about at the trial.

Does a visiting chemistry tutor in Al Furjan cost more for the same teaching?+

It costs more and in this subject often buys less. Published in-home rates of AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 online reflect the drive rather than teaching quality. The problem specific to chemistry is that Higher Level is one of the scarcer specialisms in the Jebel Ali and Dubai South corridor, so requiring a tutor who can reach the villa districts by 17:00 shrinks the pool you are choosing from. Paying to narrow the choice is the wrong direction.

Is Standard Level chemistry worth paying to support?+

Often yes, and families routinely under-buy here. The Scientific Investigation is the same twenty per cent at Standard Level, with the same four criteria and the same three thousand word limit, and the data-based section of Paper 1 makes the same demands. Most Standard Level marks are lost in exactly those places rather than in advanced content. Assuming Standard Level needs little support is how a student who could have scored well ends up with a grade shaped by an unsupported investigation.

Is my child's chemistry problem actually a maths problem?+

One session with a marked paper will tell you. Logarithms for pH, rearrangement, standard form and proportional reasoning are routine demands, and a student who explains the chemistry well then stalls on the arithmetic needs mathematics support rather than more chemistry. Stoichiometry is the particular case: everything in the subject routes through moles arithmetic, so weakness there shows up as poor marks in topics the student genuinely understands. Two to four sessions of pure arithmetic practice usually settles it.

What should I do before paying for any chemistry tutoring?+

Three free things. Ask the school for the paper-level breakdown of the last mock, so you know which component is actually losing marks. Use the school's subject clinic for specific questions about specific marked answers, since the teacher who marked it explains it best. And read the KHDA inspection report for the school, which names subject-level strengths and weaknesses, so you know whether you are buying help for an individual gap or a departmental one. Then the purchase is well specified.

How many hours does a full two-year chemistry plan take?+

Sixty to eighty in the pattern that works best in this corridor: a weekly session through Diploma 1, a defined organic mechanisms block, an early investigation design session, and two shorter sessions a week through the mock window. At the published AED 150 to 300 mid-market band that is roughly AED 9,000 to 24,000 over two years. The point is not the total but the placement: hours put where they protect marks rather than where panic puts them in the final term.

Can a tutor process my child's investigation data if the chemistry is correct?+

No. A tutor may teach the uncertainty and graphical techniques the data requires, explain what each criterion rewards, question whether the processing answers the research question, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not process the data, supply the analysis, write or rewrite the report, or outline it for the student to fill in. That boundary is stated at the first session of any investigation block and the feedback is given in writing so the school can see its nature.

Is an AED 650 an hour chemistry tutor ever the right purchase?+

Rarely, and almost never before the final two terms. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner-experienced end of the Dubai market, and that depth has a use for a student already scoring well who needs component-level insight for the last few marks. For a student with a notational or arithmetic gap, the same money buys three times as many hours at the published AED 150 to 300 band, and hours are what closes a gap. We also do not describe tutors as examiners without evidence of current status.

When can chemistry sessions run for a Diploma student in the villa districts?+

Usually 18:00, and 19:00 on a day with a fixture or a CAS commitment. Diploma students from Al Furjan mostly travel to the Al Barsha or Al Khail corridor for school, so they are not home before 16:30. Students at Dubai Investments Park or Green Community schools are home by 15:40 and can start at 15:50, which suits Middle Years science. Sessions run to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time, and a session missed to a late bus moves to the next evening rather than the next week.

Will more hours guarantee a better chemistry grade?+

No, and we do not guarantee grades in any subject. Hours placed badly change very little: twenty hours of content revision will not fix sign conventions, mechanism notation or an investigation already submitted. Hours placed well change a great deal, which is why this page is organised by component rather than by rate. Ask any provider which component their hours will address and how they know. A plan that cannot answer that is selling time rather than teaching chemistry.
