IB Tutor near me in Al Furjan

Typing IB tutor near me in Al Furjan is a search for convenience, and convenience is the most expensive thing you can buy in the Dubai tutoring market. Proximity adds AED 100 to 200 an hour and subtracts from the pool of people who know your child's subject. This page prices both sides honestly, with every figure attributed, and explains how IB Gram runs one-to-one lessons over live video instead.

IB & IGCSE in Al Furjan

What the word 'near' is costing you

Al Furjan is a villa and townhouse community between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Yalayis Road, with Discovery Gardens to the north and Dubai Investments Park to the south. It is residential rather than academic. The IB Diploma specialists in Dubai cluster around the schools that run the programme, and in this corner of the city those schools are thinner on the ground than they are in Al Barsha, Al Khail or Jumeirah. So the pool of people who will drive here for a 17:00 lesson is genuinely small.

That scarcity has a price, and the market publishes it. Visiting one-to-one tutors in Dubai charge roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour with travel priced in, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The gap is the drive. It is not a quality premium, and in a community like this one it frequently buys the opposite of quality, because the nearest available tutor is being chosen over the right one.

The second cost is harder to see on an invoice. When the pool is small, a Chemistry Higher Level student gets taught by whoever is free, and that is often someone comfortable to Standard Level but not past it. The lessons look fine. The Internal Assessment criteria never get read properly, the Paper 2 extended responses never get marked against a real mark scheme, and a term goes by. That is a far more expensive mistake than an extra AED 150 an hour.

IB Gram runs every UAE lesson one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. We say that in the first screen of every page because a family who needs someone physically present should stop reading here rather than find out after a phone call.

What this page does is price the alternatives properly. It covers what the Dubai market charges by provider model, what a two-year Diploma support plan actually totals, where families in this corridor waste money most reliably, how group classes compare on the arithmetic rather than the brochure, and what a free trial should tell you before you commit a fee. Every figure carries its source and the month it was read.

One figure to hold onto before the detail. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge. If a tutor adds a licensing or permit cost to your monthly invoice, they are billing you for something with no price, and that tells you more about the arrangement than any rate card. The permit is granted for two years and the ministry lists a two-working-day turnaround, so there is no administrative burden being recovered either. Ask the question once, before the first invoice, and the answer will tell you how carefully the rest of the arrangement has been put together.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost behaves differently at each IB stage, because the thing being paid for changes. These are the three programmes Al Furjan families buy support for, and what the money is actually for in each.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units, continuous teacher assessment and no external exam. What a parent buys at this stage is early diagnosis: reading fluency, number fact recall, written structure and the ability to explain a method aloud. Short sessions work better than long ones and twice-weekly beats once-weekly at the same total cost, because retention at this age depends on frequency rather than duration.

In Al Furjan this is the cheapest stage to buy and the one most often skipped. Primary children on Dubai Investments Park routes are home by 15:30, so a forty-minute session at 15:50 costs less than an hour and achieves more. Families with two primary children often run consecutive slots, which keeps the evening to one block and one device rather than two separate disruptions.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criteria A to D in every subject group, each marked on an eight-point scale and converted to a 1-7 grade. The money here buys a criteria diagnosis, because the commonest reason a capable student sits at a 4 is that nobody has shown them what the criterion actually rewards. One session reading a marked task against the strand descriptors frequently finds in forty minutes what a term of general support missed.

Middle Years students in Al Furjan are home between 15:40 and 16:30 depending on the route, so a 17:00 slot is the usual fit. This is the stage where spending early is measurably cheaper than spending late: a weekly session in MYP 4 costs a fraction of a Diploma 2 rescue block, and it decides whether Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is realistic in two years' time.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal Assessments carry roughly 20 to 30 per cent of each subject grade. This is where spending concentrates and where it is most often mistimed: money spent in the autumn term of Diploma 2 protects internal marks, while money spent in the spring can only chase exam technique on marks already banked.

Diploma students from Al Furjan travel furthest, usually to the Al Barsha or Al Khail corridor, so they are home late and book 18:00 or 19:00 slots. Two-year planning matters more than hourly rate here: a weekly session across both Diploma years at a mid-market rate costs less in total than one intensive term at specialist rates, and it protects the Internal Assessment marks that an intensive term cannot touch.

COREAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

The Diploma core: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, CAS

The Extended Essay is 4,000 words of supervised independent research and the Theory of Knowledge assessment is an exhibition commentary plus an essay from prescribed titles; together they carry the bonus points. Support here is bought in short blocks rather than weekly sessions, typically four to six, and the highest-value session is the earliest one, where the research question gets interrogated before months of work rest on it.

The core is where Al Furjan families most often overpay, by buying help late and at premium rates to rescue a research question that was unanswerable from the start. A single early session on the question costs one hour; rebuilding an essay in the final term costs several and still scores lower. Tutors give feedback on the student's own drafts and never write any part of the submission.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price varies by subject in this market because scarcity does. These are the subjects Al Furjan families ask for most, with a note on what makes each one expensive or cheap to support well.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested subject in this corridor, so the easiest to match and the most competitively priced. Higher Level adds Paper 3, worth 20 per cent, where sustained reasoning rather than question recognition earns marks. Money is wasted here on general maths tutors who cannot mark Paper 3 style work.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and calculator-led methods. Cheaper to support than Analysis and Approaches because the content is narrower, but the route choice itself has a cost: some engineering courses will not accept it, which is a Diploma 1 decision with a price tag years later.

Chemistry

HL and SL

One of the scarcer Higher Level specialisms in this part of Dubai, which makes it one of the more expensive to staff in-home and one of the strongest arguments for online matching. Energetics sign conventions, organic mechanisms and the Scientific Investigation are where the marks sit.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty propagation and graph gradient interpretation cost more marks across a cohort than any single topic, and both are fixable in a handful of sessions. That makes Physics unusually good value to support, provided the tutor teaches the current theme structure rather than an older syllabus.

Biology

HL and SL

Punishes imprecise language more than weak content: a student who writes that a value increases without naming the mechanism scores nothing. Statistical treatment of data, standard deviation and error bars are reliably under-taught and reliably examined, which makes them cheap marks to recover.

Economics

HL and SL

Three Internal Assessment commentaries on published news articles plus diagram-led extended response. The commonest waste is paying for content revision when the problem is article choice: a commentary built on an article with no clear economic concept cannot score well however good the writing.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study papers where command-term discipline decides the grade, and a Higher Level research project needing a real organisation and primary data. The project is where families overspend late, because arranging access to an organisation takes longer than writing about it.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the Individual Oral and, at Higher Level, a 1,200 to 1,500 word essay. Marked essay practice is what moves this subject, and it is time-intensive to deliver, so it is priced at the upper end of the mid-market band.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Scarce at Diploma level in the Dubai market, so harder to match and slower to arrange than any science. Dubai private schools must teach Arabic to all pupils under KHDA rules, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, and support works from the school's own prescribed material.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A 1,600-word exhibition commentary on three objects and a 1,600-word essay from prescribed titles. Bought in short blocks. The highest-value hour is the first one, spent choosing objects and a title that can actually carry a knowledge argument rather than an opinion.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of supervised independent research. Essays that fail are nearly always answering a question too broad for the word count, and that is diagnosable in one session. Paying for a rescue in the final term is the single most expensive pattern in Diploma support.

Visual Arts and Design Technology

HL and SL

Both are portfolio and process subjects, marked on documented development rather than finished polish. Support is bought in blocks around deadlines. Students who make impressive work without recording iterations score below students who document modest work properly.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

How you buy matters as much as what you pay per hour. These are the three patterns that work for Al Furjan families, with the cost logic of each stated plainly.

Weekly session across the full year

One sixty-minute session a week in a fixed slot, from September. Spread across a Diploma year this is the lowest total-cost option that actually changes outcomes, because it protects Internal Assessment marks rather than chasing exam technique afterwards. It is also the pattern that makes the hourly rate least important, since fewer hours are needed overall.

  • Lowest total cost per grade moved, in our experience of this market
  • Protects internal marks, which an exam-term block cannot
  • Same tutor and slot all term, with written notes each week
  • Can pause over long holidays without losing the slot

Defined block before an assessment deadline

Four to six sessions attached to one piece of work or one mock window, bought as a block with an end date. This is the honest way to buy short-term help: you know the total before you start and nobody is on an open-ended monthly commitment. Families use it for Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay question, and pre-mock paper drilling.

  • Fixed number of sessions with a stated end point
  • Total cost known in advance rather than month by month
  • Used for Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and mock preparation
  • Converts to weekly only if you choose to continue

Two shorter sessions a week in a tight period

Two forty-five minute sessions instead of one ninety-minute session, at the same weekly cost. Retention is better and set work actually gets done, because there is a Thursday check on Monday's task. In Al Furjan it also fits the afternoon better, since two short slots can be placed around fixtures where one long one cannot.

  • Same weekly spend, better retention than one long session
  • Work set in one session is checked in the next
  • Fits around sports fixtures and revision clinics
  • Used through mock windows and deadline clusters

Sibling slots back to back

Two children taught consecutively by different tutors matched to their own subjects and levels. This is not a discount mechanism and we would not pretend otherwise; it is an evening-management one. One quiet room and one device serve both sessions, and the household loses one block of time rather than two.

  • Separate specialists for each child, not a shared session
  • Consecutive slots so the evening is interrupted once
  • Each child gets their own written session note
  • Common pairing: a Middle Years and a Diploma sibling

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Furjan

01

The Dubai market priced by provider model, not by adjective

Comparing tutoring quotes is hard because providers describe themselves rather than their model. The useful comparison is structural: an agency with a managed roster, an international marketplace, a freelance tutor found through a community group, a tuition centre running group classes, and an online one-to-one service each have a different cost base and a different failure mode. The rate follows the model, not the quality of the teaching.

At the budget end, published online rates run from AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik, generally with university-student tutors. A qualified subject tutor online sits around AED 150 to 300, and Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one including travel runs AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate's Dubai table, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. IB and IGCSE specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner end.

Three of the six most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. That is why the figures above carry a provider name and a reading date of October 2026. A rate without a source is not information, and in this market the absence of a source is usually deliberate.

None of these is an IB Gram rate card. We do not publish one on a landing page, because a price without a subject, a level, a slot and a number of weeks attached is a number that misleads. What we do publish is the free trial: one lesson, no payment, after which there is something concrete to price.

A two-year Diploma support budget, written out in full

Hourly rates hide the only number that matters to a household, which is the total. So here is the arithmetic for a Diploma student from Al Furjan, using the published mid-market online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour. One weekly session in one subject across a thirty-six week school year is thirty-six hours, or roughly AED 5,400 to 10,800 a year. Across both Diploma years in one subject, that is AED 10,800 to 21,600.

Most families do not buy one subject for two years. The common pattern in this corridor is a weekly session in the hardest Higher Level subject through Diploma 1, two subjects through Diploma 2, and a short block on the Extended Essay or an Internal Assessment. That totals somewhere between sixty and a hundred hours over two years, and at mid-market rates it lands between AED 9,000 and AED 30,000 depending on rate and intensity.

Compare that with the alternative pattern, which is doing nothing until the spring of Diploma 2 and then buying an intensive block at specialist rates. Twenty hours in six weeks at AED 300 to 450 is AED 6,000 to 9,000 for a package that cannot touch Internal Assessment marks, because those are already submitted. The spend is lower and the ceiling is lower with it. That is the single most important cost fact on this page.

Context helps as well. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. A family planning tutoring is therefore working against a stable fee base this year, which makes a planned weekly commitment easier to carry than an unplanned emergency one.

03

Where families in this corridor waste tutoring money

  • Specialist rates paid for homework supervision rather than teaching
  • Ninety-minute sessions bought for a child who concentrates for fifty
  • Spending that starts after Internal Assessments are already submitted
  • A travel premium that narrows the tutor pool instead of widening it

The first and largest waste is paying a specialist rate for homework supervision. A tutor at AED 250 an hour sitting beside a student who is working steadily through set questions is an expensive invigilator. If what the household needs is someone to make sure the work happens, that is a different and much cheaper service, and conflating the two is how a monthly invoice doubles without a grade moving.

The second is session length chosen for the invoice rather than the child. Ninety-minute sessions are common because they feel substantial, but a Middle Years student concentrating hard for fifty minutes is doing nothing useful for the last forty. Two forty-five minute sessions at the same total cost retain more and let the tutor check set work. Families buy the long session because it looks like better value per booking.

The third is timing, and it is the one unique to the Diploma. Internal Assessments carry roughly 20 to 30 per cent of each subject grade and are submitted months before the exams. Money spent after those submissions cannot reach those marks. A family spending nothing until March is buying from a smaller menu at a higher price, and the Al Furjan pattern of discovering this in Diploma 2 is common enough to be predictable.

The fourth is the proximity premium itself, which brings this page back to its first point. Paying AED 150 extra an hour for a tutor who can reach the villa districts by 17:00 is paying for a drive. In a community with a small local pool of Diploma specialists, that premium frequently buys a less well-matched tutor than the same money spent online. Convenience is a real benefit; it is simply not an academic one.

04

Group classes against one-to-one, on arithmetic rather than brochure

Group classes are genuinely cheaper per hour and sometimes the right purchase. A tuition centre running a Diploma Standard Level group of six can price well below any one-to-one rate, and for a student who is broadly on track and wants structured revision alongside peers, that is a sensible use of money. The question is what gets lost, and the answer is diagnosis.

In a group, the pace is set by the group and the content is set in advance. A student whose Paper 2 marks are falling because of command-term errors in extended response will sit through a syllabus review that does not address it. One-to-one, that is the whole of the first session. The cheaper per-hour option is more expensive per grade moved when the problem is specific rather than general.

The honest split looks like this. Group classes suit broad revision, motivation and structure. One-to-one suits a diagnosed gap, Internal Assessment work, Higher Level depth and any case where the student's errors have a pattern nobody has named yet. Many families in this corridor use both: a group revision course in the holidays and a weekly one-to-one session on the one subject that is not moving.

A note on small-group pricing in the market. Small groups of two to four are sometimes offered at a lower per-student rate than one-to-one, and that is a real saving when the two students are at the same level in the same subject with the same gaps. When they are not, one of the two is paying to watch the other get taught.

The permit question that changes what is on your invoice

  • The permit is free and valid for two years; no fee can be passed on
  • Ask directly whether a tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition permit
  • No published fine schedule exists, so no amount is quoted here
  • A teacher may not privately tutor students from their own school

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the terms are worth knowing precisely because they affect what a tutor can legitimately charge you for. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on private tuition work permits and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The ministry's own service page for it is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing.

The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system. So there is no permit fee to pass on to a parent, in any amount, in any form.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so this page quotes no amount; a figure circulating online could not be verified against a ministry source. For a parent the useful action is a single question asked before the first invoice: do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit?

There is one related rule that closes off an arrangement many families consider. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Hiring your child's own class teacher privately is the one option the rules specifically exclude.

06

What a free trial lesson should tell you before any money moves

  • Bring real marked work, not a general description of the problem
  • Ask what pattern connects the lost marks, and listen for component-level detail
  • Expect a stated number of sessions, not an open monthly commitment
  • No payment is taken for the trial and there is no obligation to continue

A trial lesson that functions as a sales call is worth nothing, and most of this market treats it as one. A trial worth taking does three things: it puts your child's own marked work on the screen, it produces a specific statement about where the marks went, and it gives you a plan with a number of sessions attached. If you finish the call without those three, the tutor has not been tested.

The test question is narrow. Hand over a marked Paper 2 or a returned Internal Assessment draft and ask the tutor what pattern connects the lost marks. A specialist answers at the level of the component: the extended responses are describing rather than evaluating, or the uncertainty treatment is missing throughout, or the criterion D reflection strand is unaddressed. A generalist answers at the level of the topic, which sounds reasonable and tells you nothing.

The second thing to check is honesty about scope. A tutor who says that eight weeks is enough for exam technique but cannot recover submitted internal marks is telling you the truth. A tutor who implies that everything is recoverable in any timeframe is selling. In a market where some providers sell completed Internal Assessments outright, a frank statement of limits is a useful signal about everything else.

IB Gram runs the trial free and takes no payment for it, with no obligation afterwards. If the match is wrong, say so and we will try one more tutor or stop. The families in Al Furjan who get the most from this treat the trial as an interview with a prepared question, which takes ten minutes to think about and saves a term.

07

What the money cannot buy: coursework, and why that protects you

There is a part of this market where money buys something a family should not purchase. At least one UAE provider advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price. The transaction looks like a shortcut and is in fact a transfer of risk: the IB treats submitted work that is not the student's own as malpractice, and the exposure falls on the student and their Diploma, not on the seller's revenue.

What a tutor can legitimately be paid for is wider than parents often assume. A tutor can read the assessment criteria with the student and explain what each strand rewards, interrogate a research question or hypothesis until it is answerable, teach the statistical or practical technique the work requires, model how a published study structures its analysis, and give written feedback on the student's own draft against each criterion. That is teaching, and most of the recoverable marks sit there.

What a tutor cannot be paid for is writing, rewriting, drafting, outlining for the student to complete, or supplying content that then appears in a submission. IB Gram tutors state that boundary at the first session of any Internal Assessment or Extended Essay block and give their feedback in writing, so that a school asking what support was received gets an answer that holds up to scrutiny.

The same rule covers materials. We do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. We cite and link the official sources and work from what the school has issued. That is a copyright matter for published material and a malpractice exposure for anything unreleased, and neither is worth risking to save a download.

08

Availability, and the price of asking in January

  • Maths and sciences at MYP and SL are usually matched within days
  • Arabic B, Design Technology and smaller HL options take longer
  • January and February are the tightest weeks in the Dubai Diploma year
  • Booking in September costs less in total than booking in March

Scarcity moves price in tutoring as in anything else, and the Dubai calendar makes scarcity predictable. In September, specialists in most Diploma subjects have space and a family in Al Furjan can have a choice of tutor and slot. In January and February, when every Diploma 2 household in the city is looking for the same Higher Level subjects in the same evening window, the choice narrows to whoever is free and the rate reflects it.

Subject matters too. Mathematics and the three sciences at Middle Years and Standard Level are usually matched within a few days. Arabic B, Design Technology, Music and the smaller Higher Level options take longer at any time of year, and in the peak weeks they may not be available at all. That is a real limit and this page states it rather than implying a bottomless roster.

When the specialist for your subject and slot is not free, you get one of three answers: a different time with the right tutor, a short wait with a date attached, or a straight recommendation to look elsewhere. We do not place a tutor one level below the one your child sits and let the family discover the difference over a term. In Higher Level subjects it becomes obvious in about two sessions anyway.

The practical consequence for budgeting is simple. Booking early costs less for the same outcome, because you are buying from a wider pool in a quieter month and spreading the hours across a year instead of compressing them into six weeks. Nothing on this page saves a family more money than that single decision about timing.

Where we tutor

Al Furjan and the communities that share its price band

Tutoring prices in Dubai vary by travel distance more than by neighbourhood prestige. These are the communities quoted at similar rates to Al Furjan, because a visiting tutor reaches them on the same drive.

Al Furjan

Four districts of villas and townhouses with two Route 2020 metro stations. Quoted in-home rates here sit at the upper end of the Dubai band because the drive from the Al Barsha and Jumeirah tutor clusters is long in evening traffic.

Discovery Gardens

Apartment blocks directly north, reached on the same drive and quoted at the same rates. Families here often choose online for a practical reason rather than a financial one: there is no spare room to put a visiting tutor in.

Dubai Investments Park

Several of the schools Al Furjan children attend sit here, so some teachers already work in the area during the day and quote slightly lower travel premiums for an immediately adjacent evening booking.

Jebel Ali

South of Al Furjan and further from the tutor clusters, so quotes run higher again. Parents working in the free zone often need a 19:00 start, which is the slot visiting tutors price most aggressively or decline outright.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest districts and the furthest from the city's tutor supply. In-home quotes here are the highest in this corridor, and availability for a specific Higher Level subject is the thinnest.

Green Community

Inside Dubai Investments Park, close to several schools, with the shortest school run in the cluster. The one place in this corridor where an in-home booking at a reasonable rate is genuinely easy to arrange.

Dubai Production City

Townhouses and apartments along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, closer to the Al Barsha tutor cluster, so quotes land nearer the middle of the published Dubai band.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the budget shape

Not just Chemistry, but Chemistry Higher Level, Diploma 2, Internal Assessment due in February, and whether you are looking at a weekly session or a defined block. Knowing the budget shape lets us say honestly whether what you want is achievable in those hours rather than discovering it in month three.

  2. 02

We match a specialist and name them

You are told who the tutor is and which components they have taught before any session is booked. For an Al Furjan family the match is made on availability in UAE evening hours rather than on who lives nearby, which is the whole point of delivering online.

  3. 03

Free trial with marked work on the screen

Bring a marked paper or a returned draft and ask what pattern connects the lost marks. Forty to sixty minutes is enough to judge the answer. No payment is taken, and if the match is wrong you say so and we try once more or stop. That is the cheapest hour in this process.

  4. 04

Agree the pattern and the number of sessions

Weekly through a term, or a defined block of four to six attached to one deadline. The total is agreed in advance either way, so the commitment is a known number rather than a rolling monthly charge that nobody reviews until the term ends.

  5. 05

Written session notes you can audit

A short note after every lesson naming what was covered, what was set and what to practise. Over a term it is the record of what the money bought, and for internal work it is the evidence that the support given was teaching and feedback rather than anything else.

  6. 06

    Review against the deadline calendar

Every few weeks we check progress against the school's internal deadlines rather than against hours delivered. Before a mock window that usually means two shorter sessions a week; afterwards it goes back to one. Hours follow the calendar instead of accumulating by habit.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries a source

Each AED rate on this page names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Three of the most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all and two quote US dollars, which is not what a Dubai family transacts in.

No travel premium in the rate

Nobody drives to Al Furjan, so nobody prices a drive into your invoice. What that removes is the AED 100 to 200 an hour gap between the published online and in-home bands, and what it adds is a tutor chosen from everyone free in UAE evening hours.

A known total, not a rolling charge

Sessions are agreed as a weekly slot for a term or a defined block with an end date. You know the number before it starts. Open-ended monthly arrangements are how tutoring spend grows without anyone deciding that it should.

The free trial is genuinely free

One lesson with your child's own work on screen, no payment taken, no obligation afterwards. If the match is wrong, say so. The condition is stated here rather than discovered later, because free with conditions attached is the oldest trick in this market.

Honest about what spending late cannot buy

Internal Assessments carry roughly 20 to 30 per cent of a subject grade and are submitted before the exams. Money spent afterwards cannot reach those marks. A provider who tells you otherwise is selling, and that is worth knowing before you choose one.

Limits stated before any payment

No tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is India-only. There is no IB Gram office in the UAE. If no specialist is free for your subject and slot, we say so rather than substituting one and hoping.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Furjan: your questions answered

In Al Furjan, how much more does a tutor who comes to the villa cost?+

Roughly AED 100 to 200 an hour more, and the gap is travel rather than teaching. Published Dubai rates put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. From Al Furjan the drive from the Al Barsha and Jumeirah tutor clusters is long in evening traffic, which pushes quotes to the upper end. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

Is there any IB tutor actually based in Al Furjan itself?+

Al Furjan is residential rather than academic, and Dubai's IB Diploma specialists cluster near the schools that run the programme, which in this corner of the city are fewer than in Al Barsha, Al Khail or Jumeirah. So the genuinely local pool for a specific Higher Level subject is small. That matters more than it sounds: choosing from a small pool means taking the available tutor rather than the right one. Online delivery replaces the map with a calendar, which is a much larger space to choose from.

What does a full two-year IB Diploma support plan cost from this part of Dubai?+

Using the published mid-market online band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, one weekly session in one subject across a thirty-six week year is about AED 5,400 to 10,800. The common pattern here, one subject through Diploma 1, two through Diploma 2 and a short core block, runs sixty to a hundred hours over two years, landing somewhere between AED 9,000 and AED 30,000. A spring-only intensive of twenty hours at specialist rates costs AED 6,000 to 9,000 and cannot reach submitted internal marks.

Which is the single biggest waste of money in Dubai tutoring?+

Paying a specialist rate for homework supervision. A tutor at AED 250 an hour sitting beside a student working steadily through set questions is an expensive invigilator, and the grade does not move because nothing is being taught. If the household needs someone to make sure work happens, that is a cheaper and different service. The second biggest is buying ninety-minute sessions for a child who concentrates for fifty; two forty-five minute sessions at the same weekly cost retain more and let the tutor check set work.

Do group revision courses make sense alongside one-to-one for an Al Furjan student?+

Often, yes, and many families here use both. Group courses price well below any one-to-one rate and give structure, pace and peer motivation, which suits broad revision for a student who is roughly on track. What they cannot do is diagnose: a student losing Paper 2 marks to command-term errors will sit through a syllabus review that never addresses it. The sensible split is a group course in the holidays plus a weekly one-to-one session on the one subject that is not moving.

Can a tutor charge me for their UAE licence or permit?+

No, because it has no price. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time. If a permit or licensing line appears on your invoice, you are being charged for an item with no cost, which is worth asking about directly.

When is the cheapest time of year to book an IB tutor in Dubai?+

September, and the saving is both in rate and in choice. Early in the year specialists in most Diploma subjects have space, so an Al Furjan family can choose the tutor and the slot. By January and February every Diploma 2 household in the city is after the same Higher Level subjects in the same evening window, and the choice narrows to whoever is free. Booking early also spreads the hours across a year instead of compressing them into six weeks, which lowers the total spend for a better result.

Why can money spent in March not fix an IB grade?+

Because a large part of the grade has already been submitted. Internal Assessments carry roughly 20 to 30 per cent of each subject grade and are completed and uploaded months before the papers are sat, along with the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. Tutoring bought after those deadlines can only work on exam technique for the remaining marks. That is useful and often worth doing, but it is a smaller ceiling, and any provider implying otherwise is selling rather than advising.

What should I bring to a trial lesson to judge whether a tutor is worth the rate?+

A marked paper or a returned Internal Assessment draft, and one question: what pattern connects the lost marks? A specialist answers at component level, naming extended responses that describe rather than evaluate, or missing uncertainty treatment throughout, or an unaddressed reflection strand. A generalist answers at topic level, which sounds reasonable and tells you nothing. Also listen for honesty about scope: a tutor who says eight weeks can fix technique but not submitted internal marks is telling you the truth.

Are small-group sessions of two or three students better value than one-to-one?+

They are when the students genuinely match: same subject, same level, same gaps. Then the lower per-student rate is a real saving and the shared practice helps. They are poor value when the levels or the weaknesses differ, because one student spends the hour watching the other get taught at a rate that is only slightly below one-to-one. Before agreeing to a pairing, ask what the other student's current grade and specific difficulty are. If the answer is vague, decline it.

Does the AED rate I am quoted in Dubai include VAT?+

Ask, in writing, before the first invoice. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page because doing so would need a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not going to paraphrase from memory. What a parent can reasonably require from any provider is a clear statement of whether the quoted figure is the amount payable or the amount before tax, and a tax registration number if one is held. A provider who will not put that in writing has told you something useful.

Which IB subjects cost the most to support properly in Dubai?+

The scarce ones rather than the hard ones. Arabic B at Diploma level, Design Technology, Music and the smaller Higher Level options are harder to staff anywhere in the city, so they are slower to match and priced at the upper end. Chemistry Higher Level is scarcer in this corridor than Mathematics, which is why online matching matters more for it. Mathematics and the three sciences at Standard Level are the most competitively priced, simply because supply is widest.

Can both of my children share one session to halve the cost?+

Not usefully, unless they are in the same subject at the same level with the same gaps, which siblings rarely are. A Year 8 Middle Years student and a Diploma 2 student need different specialists and different content, and a shared hour shortchanges both. What does work is consecutive slots with separate tutors, which keeps the evening to one block and one device. It is an evening-management saving rather than a financial one, and we would not pretend otherwise.

Why do so many Dubai tutoring sites refuse to publish a price?+

Because a quote is easier to defend in a conversation than on a page. Of the most visible competitor pages in this market, three publish no AED figure at all and two quote in US dollars, a currency Dubai families do not transact in. One even asks the price question in its own list of frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it. This page takes the other approach and publishes the market bands with the provider and the reading date attached, while keeping our own quote to a conversation after the free trial.

What exactly cannot be bought, however much a family is willing to pay?+

A completed Internal Assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project. At least one UAE provider advertises completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; the risk in that transaction sits entirely with the student, because the IB treats submitted work that is not the student's own as malpractice. IB Gram tutors teach technique, question a research question, and give written feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, rewrite or supply submitted content, and that boundary is stated at the first session.

Is a tutor at AED 650 an hour ever worth it for a student in this corridor?+

Rarely, and almost never before the final two terms. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the examiner-experienced end of the Dubai market. That depth has a use: a Higher Level student already scoring well who needs component-level marking insight to move the last few marks. For a student with a diagnosed content or method gap, the same money buys three times as many hours at the published AED 150 to 300 mid-market band, and hours are what closes a gap. We also do not describe tutors as examiners without evidence of current status.

Price the alternatives before you pay for proximity

If you are searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Furjan, the figures on this page should let you judge any quote you receive. Published Dubai in-home rates run AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included; a qualified subject tutor online runs AED 150 to 300. The gap is a drive, not a grade. Tell us the subject, the level and the earliest time your child is realistically at the desk, and we will match a specialist in that component and run a free trial with your child's own marked work on screen. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and nothing is paid until you have judged the match yourself.
