Grade 11 IB DP Tutor in Dubai

A grade 11 IB DP tutor in Dubai is almost always being hired against a budget that cannot cover six subjects, which makes the real question which one to fund. This page answers it with numbers: the Dubai market rate in AED with sources, how Higher and Standard Level assessment weightings change what an hour is worth, and why DP1 money buys more than the same money in the final term. Lessons are one-to-one and live online.

  • Market AED rates published with the provider who quoted them
  • HL and SL weightings used to rank where the money goes
  • The internal assessment calendar, which is where the spend clusters
  • One-to-one online; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Six subjects, one hour a week, and a decision nobody helps you make

A Grade 11 student in a Dubai IB school is carrying six subjects at once, three at Higher Level and three at Standard, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the Creativity, Activity, Service strand. Each subject has an internal assessment marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB. Almost no family can fund tutoring in six subjects, and almost every family tries to decide which one to fund on the basis of which report line looks worst. That is the wrong criterion and it is the most expensive mistake in DP1.

Start with the market, since nobody else in this search result publishes it. A qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai sits at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Below that, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which buys supervision rather than Diploma-level subject diagnosis. Above it, named specialists run AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the examiner-positioned end. In-home visits carry a travel premium: Bestimate puts them at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500.

In monthly terms, which is what families actually plan against, Bestimate's published Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages visible in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Three of the six competitor pages measured here publish no price at all; the two that do quote US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Now the decision. The right subject to fund is not the lowest grade. It is the subject where an hour moves the most points, and that is determined by three things: the level, because Higher Level carries more teaching hours and deeper content and therefore more recoverable marks; the weighting of the component that is weak, because a paper worth 35 per cent of the grade is worth more attention than one worth 20; and whether an internal assessment is in play, because internal assessment marks are produced over months rather than in three hours and are therefore the most tractable marks in the Diploma.

The second decision is timing, and it favours acting now. The final two terms of DP2 sit in the exam-year band Bestimate puts at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, and they are the least productive hours in the programme because the student is simultaneously finishing coursework, sitting mocks and applying to universities. The same budget spent in Grade 11, when a habit can still be retrained rather than patched, buys more points per dirham. That is the whole argument of this page.

All IB Gram tuition in the UAE is delivered one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is an India-only service, and if presence in Dubai is your requirement we will say we are not the right provider.

At a glance

  • Market online rate for a qualified subject tutor: AED 150-300 per hour, per Unitors' published figures
  • Fund the subject where an hour moves the most points, not the lowest grade
  • Higher Level carries more recoverable marks than Standard Level for the same hour
  • Internal assessment marks are produced over months and are the most tractable in the Diploma
  • DP1 hours buy more than DP2 hours at the exam-year band
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27, so tuition is the variable line
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Grade 11 is the first of two Diploma years. The cost structure of DP1 differs from DP2 in ways worth seeing before committing a budget to either.

DPAges 16-17 · Grade 11

Diploma Programme, Year 1

Six subjects begun simultaneously across six groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, with Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay process starting alongside. Internal assessments are introduced and in several subjects a first draft is due within the year. Subject grades run 1 to 7, with up to three bonus points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.

In Dubai, DP1 is also the year subject changes are still possible — just. A student who finds a Higher Level choice unsustainable can usually drop to Standard Level or switch early in the year, and the school's deadline for that is internal and rarely advertised. Asking for it in writing in the first term is worth more than any amount of tutoring on a subject that should not have been taken.

DPAges 17-19 · Grade 12

Diploma Programme, Year 2

The final year: internal assessments completed and submitted, the Extended Essay finished, Theory of Knowledge assessed, mock examinations sat, and external examinations in the May session for UAE schools. University applications run through the same months.

The expensive year, and the reason this page argues for spending in Grade 11. Bestimate puts specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, and the hours are competing with coursework deadlines, mocks and applications. A family that funds one subject properly in DP1 usually needs less in DP2, not more.

CPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma subjects paired with a career-related study, plus a personal and professional skills course, a reflective project, service learning and a language development strand. Fewer Diploma subjects than the full Diploma and a different core.

Rarely offered in Dubai, so a family interested in it has a short list rather than a choice. Worth knowing about in Grade 11 for one reason: a student genuinely unable to sustain six Diploma subjects has an option other than failing at them, and in cost terms it carries a much lower parallel-tutoring load. Check the IB's programme finder and then the school directly.

MYPAges 15-16 · Grade 10

Middle Years Programme, Year 5

The final MYP year, with the Personal Project, the most demanding criterion B and C work in the programme, and in some schools an optional external eAssessment. Subjects are assessed against four lettered criteria scored 0-8 and converted to a 1-7 grade.

Mentioned here because the single cheapest version of DP1 support is bought in the Grade 10 summer term, before DP1 starts. Non-calculator fluency for Analysis and Approaches, the Diploma investigation format for the sciences, command-term scope for English: six to ten sessions then does work that costs the exam-year band later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the DP1 subjects Dubai families most often fund, each with the component the money should actually target. The ranking logic is weighting and tractability rather than current grade.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most-funded DP1 subject in Dubai and usually correctly so at Higher Level. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator at both levels, which is where the recoverable marks sit: technique and notation under time rather than additional content.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics and modelling led with a graphical calculator assumed throughout. The marks cluster in interpretation questions, which ask what a result means in context and are short compositions wrapped around a calculation. Cheaper to improve than AA, for the same grade movement.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Physical chemistry carries the load: enthalpy cycles, entropy and equilibrium constants. Higher Level is the right place to spend if funding one science, because the content depth is where the recoverable marks are. The scientific investigation is the tractable component.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty treatment separates IB Physics from most national syllabuses and is consistently where marks go. Higher Level adds rotational dynamics, the quantum topic and harder field theory, and the written explanation marks are as heavy as the calculation ones.

Biology

HL and SL

Broad syllabus and precise command terms, so the cheapest marks are in answer discipline rather than content. 'Outline', 'explain' and 'evaluate' set different scopes, and a student who writes everything for every term loses marks and time together.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries, each on a news article published inside a defined window, each applying a different syllabus unit. The commentaries are the single most tractable marks in the subject and they are deadline-shaped, so they are bought as blocks.

Business Management

HL and SL

Approachable content and an unforgiving assessment structure. Higher Level requires a research project on a real organisation with supporting documents, and Paper 1 uses a pre-released case study, which rewards early preparation more than late revision.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is a guided analysis of an unseen non-literary text, so advertisements, speeches and infographics are examinable. Technique on Paper 1 is the recoverable mark for most students; the Paper 2 comparative essay depends on reading that cannot be bought late.

English B

HL and SL

Assessed on productive and receptive skills against defined text types, so register and form carry the marks rather than fluency. A good-value subject to fund because text-type conventions are finite and teachable in a defined number of sessions.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a working solution for an identified client, documented across a development process, and the documentation carries most of the criteria marks. Students who build well and document poorly are the standard pattern and the standard fix.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Assessed by an exhibition of three objects with commentaries and a prescribed-title essay, together worth up to three bonus points with the Extended Essay. Low hours, real points, and routinely the last thing a family funds.

Extended Essay

Core

A 4,000-word independent research essay with a supervisor and three formal reflection sessions. Process coaching in DP1 — question narrowing and methodology — is a few sessions that prevent a lost term in DP2. A tutor coaches and feeds back; the writing is the student's.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format is priced differently because each buys different marks. All are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

One Higher Level subject, weekly

The default DP1 purchase and usually the right one. A single Higher Level subject, one tutor, a fixed weekly hour working a topic ahead of the class. At the mid-market band this is Bestimate's AED 600-1,200 monthly shape, and it is where the most recoverable marks per hour sit in Grade 11.

  • One subject at one level, not three subjects shared across an hour
  • Works ahead of the class so a lesson is a second encounter
  • Written work set between sessions and marked against the mark scheme
  • Reviewed each term on component evidence rather than renewed by default

Internal assessment block

A defined number of sessions against the school's own internal deadline, which is where DP1 spend naturally clusters. The tutor explains the criteria letter by letter with the marks attached, interrogates the research question and methodology, and gives written feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written or edited to completion.

  • A fixed session count against a known school deadline
  • Criteria explained by letter, with the marks attached
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • No drafting, ghostwriting or model answers to adapt

Core block: Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay process

The cheapest points in the Diploma and the last thing most families fund. Three or four sessions in DP1 on narrowing an Extended Essay question, choosing a methodology, and understanding how the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and prescribed-title essay are assessed. Together they are worth up to three bonus points.

  • Question narrowing before the research starts, which saves a term
  • Methodology chosen deliberately rather than discovered
  • Theory of Knowledge assessment structure explained, not summarised
  • Short and finite: three or four sessions, in DP1 not DP2

Subject-change consultation

Two sessions, early in DP1, for a student who may be in the wrong subject or at the wrong level. The purpose is an honest read of whether a Higher Level choice is sustainable, before the school's internal change deadline passes. Occasionally the most valuable money in the whole Diploma.

  • An honest assessment of sustainability at the chosen level
  • Timed against the school's internal change deadline, which you must ask for
  • Compares the real assessment demands of the alternatives
  • Sometimes concludes that no tutoring is the answer, only a change

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai

DP1 tutors are matched to one subject at one level, because that is how the budget usually works and because a tutor spread across three Diploma subjects is a generalist in all of them. The first conversation is about which subject earns the hour.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a Grade 11 IB tutor costs in Dubai

A qualified online IB subject tutor in Dubai costs AED 150-300 an hour at market rates, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. That band is where almost all useful DP1 work sits. Below it you are buying supervision; above it you are buying either a travel premium or a specialism you may not need in Grade 11.

The supervision band has a legitimate use even in the Diploma. EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. For a DP1 student whose problem is that six subjects of homework never gets started, that band buys structure, and paying four times more for syllabus expertise the student is not yet using would be waste. The diagnosis matters: a student losing marks on Chemistry HL equilibrium needs the middle band; a student losing marks because nothing is handed in needs the lower one.

The travel premium is the band DP1 families pay most often without choosing to. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500. The difference from the online band is the commute rather than the teaching, and in DP1 that difference is particularly poor value, because the subjects where help is most needed — Maths AA HL, Chemistry HL, Physics HL, HL Economics — have the thinnest local pools at any price.

The specialist band at AED 200-450 and upwards, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650, earns its premium for a narrow set of DP1 jobs: a Higher Level science where the content depth is the problem, and an internal assessment that is genuinely going wrong. Outside those, the same money placed as a second mid-band subject usually moves more total points. And a caution from the research: do not pay a premium for examiner positioning you cannot verify.

Which of six subjects deserves the hour

This is the decision the whole page exists for, and the honest criterion is marks moved per hour rather than lowest current grade. A 4 in a Standard Level subject with no internal assessment pending may be far less tractable than a 5 in a Higher Level subject with a weak component carrying 35 per cent of the grade.

Three tests, in order. First, level: Higher Level subjects carry more teaching hours, deeper content and more components, which means more recoverable marks for the same hour of work. If a family can fund only one subject, funding a Higher Level one is usually right, even where the Standard Level grade is lower. Second, component weighting: find out which paper or component is weak and what percentage of the grade it carries. An hour spent on a 35 per cent component is worth nearly twice an hour on a 20 per cent one.

Third, tractability. Internal assessment marks are the most tractable in the Diploma because they are produced over months, with drafts, against published criteria, rather than in three hours in May. A student with a weak internal assessment in progress has marks genuinely available. A student whose weakness is accumulated content across two years of a Higher Level science has fewer available marks per hour, and a family should know that before paying for twelve sessions.

There is a fourth consideration that is not about marks: the bonus points. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together carry up to three points, which is the difference between 34 and 37 on a Diploma total, and they are consistently the last thing a Dubai family funds. Three or four sessions of process coaching in DP1 is among the cheapest point movement available in the entire programme, and nobody buys it because it does not appear as a weak line on a report.

03

Higher and Standard Level: what the weighting difference means for a budget

Families treat Higher Level as simply harder, which is true and not the useful part. The useful part is structural: Higher Level courses carry more prescribed teaching hours, additional content beyond the Standard Level syllabus, and in several subjects an additional component. That means more assessment surface, and more assessment surface means more places where targeted work can move a grade.

It also means the same subject at the two levels is a different purchase. A Standard Level science has fewer components and a shallower syllabus, so the realistic ceiling on what tutoring can add is lower — not because the student is less able but because there is less to recover. A Higher Level science has the extra content, the additional paper in several subjects, and the same internal assessment, which is more room to work in.

The practical move is to ask the school, or read the subject guide, for the component weightings in the specific subjects funded. Every Diploma subject publishes how much each paper and the internal assessment contributes to the final grade, and the numbers differ between subjects and between levels. A family that knows a component is worth 35 per cent and that their child is weak in it has a real basis for a decision. A family working from a report grade has none.

One warning about levels and money. Where a student is in a Higher Level subject they genuinely cannot sustain, no amount of tutoring is the right answer and the honest advice is to ask the school about dropping to Standard Level while the internal change deadline is still open. That deadline is set by the school, is rarely advertised, and usually falls early in DP1. Asking about it is free and occasionally saves two years.

04

The internal assessment calendar, which is where DP1 money clusters

Internal assessment is the DP1 spending event, and it does not spread evenly. Each subject has coursework marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB, and the deadlines are set by the school rather than by the IB. That has two consequences for a budget: the work arrives in clusters, and nobody tells you when until it is close.

The first action is administrative and free. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal deadline calendar for the whole of DP1 and DP2, in writing. Most Dubai schools have one. With it, internal assessment support can be bought as defined blocks against known dates, which costs less and works better. Without it, the pattern is a panic purchase three weeks out, at whatever rate is available at short notice.

The subjects where this bites hardest in Grade 11 are Economics, with three commentaries each tied to a news article published inside a defined window; the sciences, where the scientific investigation has a long lead time and a first draft often falls in DP1; and the Extended Essay, which has three formal reflection sessions spread across the Diploma and a question that should be settled in DP1 rather than DP2. Mathematics has the exploration, usually later.

A note on value. Internal assessment marks are, hour for hour, the best marks in the Diploma to work on, because they are produced over months with drafts against published criteria rather than in an examination hall. Process coaching on them is also the help most constrained by academic honesty rules, which is why the next section sets the boundary out explicitly: what is bought is criteria understanding, question interrogation and written feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing else is available at any price.

Online, in-home or group in DP1

  • Bestimate puts in-home at AED 180-350 against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor
  • The HL subjects most often needed have the thinnest local pools at any price
  • Group formats cannot carry internal assessment coaching, which is individual by nature
  • No UAE home visits; home tutoring is an India-only service

In a year where a family may be funding one subject for twelve months, the delivery decision has real money attached. The honest arithmetic: Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor. The premium is the commute.

In DP1 that premium is worse value than at any earlier stage, because the subjects most often needing help are the ones with the thinnest local pools. A family wanting Chemistry HL, Maths AA HL, Physics HL or HL Economics in one Dubai community at the hour a Grade 11 student is home is drawing from a very small set of people. Paying a travel premium does not enlarge it; it only increases the cost of whoever is available.

Group formats are genuinely cheaper and genuinely limited. An online small group costs less per student and works for shared content revision. It does not work for internal assessment coaching, which is about one student's own question and drafts, and it does not work where the weakness is a specific component technique rather than content. In DP1 most of what is worth buying is individual by nature.

IB Gram's position is fixed rather than preferential. All UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — home visits are a service we offer only in India. If physical presence in Dubai is your requirement, we are not the right provider and will say so rather than arguing the point.

06

Academic honesty: what no amount of money buys

  • Allowed: criteria by letter, methodology taught, feedback on the student's own drafts
  • Not allowed: writing, dictating, supplying data, editing to completion, model answers
  • The test: could the student defend every line in an oral examination?
  • Official syllabus documents and mark schemes are linked, never reproduced or supplied

In a year where internal assessments are the most valuable marks available, somebody will offer to produce them. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an IB malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student, who can be excluded, not on the seller, who keeps the fee. This belongs on a page about cost because cost is the mechanism.

What can legitimately be bought is substantial and is where this page's prices apply. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain each assessment criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, interrogate and narrow a research question, teach the methodology, read the student's own drafts and give written feedback against the criteria, and teach referencing conventions. That is the help that genuinely moves an internal assessment mark.

What cannot be bought is writing any part of the work, dictating sentences for the student to transcribe, supplying a methodology or dataset as the student's own, editing a draft into a finished state, or handing over a model to be adapted. The test is whether the student could explain and defend every line of the work in an oral examination. If not, the family has bought a liability rather than a grade.

The same applies to materials. We do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; we reference them and link the official source. A provider offering a private library of mark schemes or unreleased material as an inducement is creating both a copyright problem and a malpractice exposure that lands on the student.

07

The exam calendar in DP1, and the one date error to avoid

  • UAE IB schools sit the May session; we publish no specific IB date here
  • The live DP1 constraint is the school's internal deadline calendar, not the examinations
  • Cambridge February/March is India only; UAE candidates sit June and November
  • Always work from the live official timetable for your centre's zone

UAE IB schools sit the May session, and a Grade 11 student's examinations are therefore a year away. That distance is why DP1 money is better value: there is time for a habit to change rather than for an answer to be patched. What is not a year away is the internal deadline calendar, which is the live constraint in Grade 11 and which the school sets.

We do not publish a specific IB exam or results date on these pages. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so any date printed here would be second-hand, and a wrong date in a family's planning is worse than no date at all. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the entered session and the internal deadline calendar in writing, and verify against ibo.org.

For students also sitting Cambridge or Pearson qualifications alongside — which happens in Dubai, particularly for additional subjects — the board calendars are sourced and usable. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series, and the February/March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai family should not plan around it. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November; its November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so the correct practice is always to work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

08

Permits, availability and the Dubai DP1 calendar

  • MoHRE permit: free, valid two years, two working days, no published fine schedule
  • Do not seek an arrangement with your child's own Diploma teacher
  • HL sciences, Maths AA HL and HL Economics are the thinnest subjects in this market
  • Friday evening is a school night; agree in advance that the slot moves for Ramadan

On whoever you are paying: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted to you is unverified.

There is a restriction worth knowing while comparing DP1 quotes. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. So an arrangement built around your child's own Diploma teacher is not one to pursue. This is press-reported rather than read from the policy document, so verify it against current ADEK guidance.

On availability, the honest position: Higher Level sciences, Maths AA HL and HL Economics are the thinnest subjects in this market, and a specific evening hour on Gulf Standard Time in one of them sometimes cannot be filled immediately. When that is the case we say so rather than booking a generalist against a Higher Level syllabus. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India, delivered identically by live video. No home visits happen in the UAE in either direction.

On the calendar, the UAE working week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening is a school night. During Ramadan the school day shortens and the productive window moves, for many families to after Iftar, which is better agreed in advance than renegotiated weekly. And one piece of budget context: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, which makes tuition the variable line and its placement across the two Diploma years the decision that matters.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and the DP1 evening

In DP1 the session has to survive a long school day plus homework in six subjects. Where a family lives decides which hour is actually usable, and an unusable hour is money lost.

Al Barsha and Tecom

Central with short drives to several school clusters, so a 5pm start holds and a second weekly session remains feasible. One of the better bases for a DP1 student funding two subjects.

Dubai Hills Estate

Schooling inside the community keeps the run short, making an earlier weekday slot realistic. For a DP1 student that earlier hour is worth more than it sounds, because the later ones are already spoken for by homework.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short commutes to the older school belt. The competition in DP1 is between tutoring, Creativity Activity Service commitments and six subjects of homework, which is a scheduling negotiation rather than a traffic one.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

A long run along the Al Khail corridor for some schools, so 5.30pm or later. A weekend session is frequently the more productive half of a twice-weekly DP1 arrangement here.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living with a drive to most schools. Evening sessions are standard and weekend work is more productive during internal assessment weeks, when weekday evenings are already full.

Mirdif and Al Khawaneej

Short commutes and a dense school presence, so earlier starts work. Families here usually place the Higher Level subject in the earlier slot, which is the correct priority in DP1.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several institutions with short journeys, supporting a twice-weekly pattern. Suited to a DP1 student funding one Higher Level subject plus a short Extended Essay block.

Business Bay and Downtown

Few schools nearby and outward commutes, so 6.30pm or later on a school night. In DP1 the realistic pattern here is one weekday session plus a longer weekend one rather than two weekday slots.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Established Dubai Diploma schools

Long-running Diploma cohorts where internal assessment calendars are settled and communicated. In cost terms that matters: a school that publishes its internal deadlines early allows a family to buy internal assessment support as a block rather than in a panic.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Deira International School

Newer Dubai Diploma provision

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. Newer Diploma cohorts are smaller, which can mean narrower Higher Level option blocks and a subject changed by timetable rather than by choice.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS International School Al Khail
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • South View School
  • Arcadia Global School

Schools are named as Dubai market context only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement from any school or school group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the component weightings for each subject

From the school or the subject guide. Every Diploma subject publishes what each paper and the internal assessment contributes to the grade. Without those numbers, a decision about which subject to fund is being made on a report line, which is the least informative figure available.

  2. 02

Ask for the internal deadline calendar in writing

For the whole of DP1 and DP2. Internal assessment deadlines are set by the school, not the IB, and they arrive in clusters. With the calendar, support is bought as blocks against known dates; without it, it is bought in a panic three weeks out at whatever rate is available.

  3. 03

Ask about the subject-change deadline too

Early in DP1 and in writing. Where a Higher Level choice is genuinely unsustainable, no amount of tutoring is the right answer, and the school's internal change deadline usually falls early and is rarely advertised. Asking costs nothing and occasionally saves two years.

  4. 04

A free trial lesson in the chosen subject

One session, no charge, with a tutor matched to that subject at that level. By the end of it you should have a named component and a named weakness, not a general impression. If the match is wrong you say so, and we match again before any payment.

  5. 05

Fund the bonus points as well

Three or four sessions in DP1 on narrowing the Extended Essay question and understanding how Theory of Knowledge is assessed. Together they carry up to three Diploma points, which is the cheapest point movement in the programme and the item families fund last or never.

  6. 06

Review on component evidence each term

The question at the end of each term is whether the targeted component has moved, with marked work to show it. Where it has and holds, the right advice is often to pause and keep a block in reserve for DP2 rather than to carry the slot forward automatically.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the AED market with its sources

Three of the six competitor pages measured in this market publish no price at all and the two that do quote dollars. Every figure here names the provider who published it and the review date, because a family choosing between six subjects needs the market rather than a brochure.

The funding decision made on weighting, not on the lowest grade

Level, component weighting and tractability decide where an hour moves the most points. An hour on a 35 per cent component beats an hour on a 20 per cent one, and an internal assessment in progress beats two years of accumulated content gaps.

We will say when tutoring is the wrong purchase

A student in an unsustainable Higher Level subject needs the school's change deadline, not twelve sessions. A student not handing work in across six subjects needs the lower supervision band, not a specialist. Saying so costs us a booking and is the useful answer.

The bonus points taken seriously

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay carry up to three Diploma points for a handful of coaching sessions in DP1, and almost nobody buys them because they do not show as a weak report line. On a points-per-dirham basis they are the best value in the programme.

Honesty where the marks are most tractable

Internal assessment marks are the best in the Diploma to work on and the most constrained by academic honesty rules. Criteria explained, questions interrogated, drafts read, feedback written, nothing authored — stated on the page rather than buried in terms.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no KHDA approval or regulator accreditation, no UAE office. We publish no IB session or results date, because the IB's site blocks automated checking, and where we cannot match a Higher Level subject at your hour we say so.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which of my child's six Diploma subjects should we actually pay for?+

Not the lowest grade. Fund the subject where an hour moves the most points, which is decided by three things in order: level, because Higher Level carries more content and components and therefore more recoverable marks; component weighting, because an hour on a paper worth 35 per cent of the grade is worth nearly twice an hour on one worth 20; and tractability, because an internal assessment in progress has marks genuinely available while two years of accumulated content gaps do not. Get the component weightings from the school before deciding.

How much does a Grade 11 IB tutor charge in Dubai?+

A qualified subject tutor working online sits at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. Below that, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which buys supervision rather than Diploma-level diagnosis. Above it, named specialists run AED 200-450 and upward with TutorChase at AED 270. Bestimate's published Dubai monthly estimates for one weekly session run AED 600-1,200 in the middle band. These are market figures with sources; our own quote follows a free trial lesson.

Is it better to fund a Higher Level or a Standard Level subject?+

Higher Level, usually, even where the Standard Level grade is lower. Higher Level courses carry more prescribed teaching hours, additional syllabus content beyond the Standard Level core, and in several subjects an extra component. That is more assessment surface, which means more places targeted work can move a grade. A Standard Level subject has fewer components and a shallower syllabus, so the realistic ceiling on what tutoring can add is lower — not because of the student but because there is less to recover from.

Why are internal assessment marks the best ones to pay for?+

Because they are produced over months rather than in three hours in an examination hall. Each Diploma subject carries coursework marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB, written against published criteria, with drafts along the way. That means a weakness is visible and addressable while the marks are still being earned, which is not true of an examination paper. The constraint is academic honesty: what can be bought is criteria understanding, question interrogation and written feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing beyond that at any price.

Should we spend in Grade 11 or save it for the final year?+

Grade 11, on a points-per-dirham basis. Bestimate's published Dubai estimates put specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month against AED 600-1,200 for the same weekly session in the mid-band. The final two terms are also the least productive hours in the programme, because the student is simultaneously finishing coursework, sitting mocks and applying to universities. In DP1 there is still time for a habit to be retrained rather than an answer patched. Keep a block in reserve for before mocks.

What should we ask the Diploma coordinator before buying any tutoring?+

Three things, all free. The component weightings for each subject, so the funding decision is made on assessment surface rather than on a report line. The internal deadline calendar for the whole of DP1 and DP2, because internal assessment deadlines are set by the school and arrive in clusters, and a known date turns a panic purchase into a planned block. And the school's internal subject-change deadline, which usually falls early in DP1 and is rarely advertised.

Our child is in a Higher Level subject they cannot cope with. Is tutoring the answer?+

Usually not. Where a Higher Level choice is genuinely unsustainable, twelve sessions will produce an exhausted student and a modest grade, while dropping to Standard Level produces a better outcome in that subject and relieves the other five. The school sets an internal deadline for subject and level changes, it usually falls early in DP1, and it is rarely advertised. Ask about it in writing in the first term. Two consultation sessions to establish honestly whether the level is sustainable is sometimes the most valuable money in the Diploma.

Are Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay worth paying for?+

On a points-per-hour basis they are the best value in the Diploma and families fund them last or not at all. Together they carry up to three bonus points, which is the difference between 34 and 37 on a Diploma total. Three or four sessions in DP1 on narrowing the Extended Essay question, choosing a methodology deliberately, and understanding how the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and prescribed-title essay are assessed is a small, finite purchase. They get skipped because they do not appear as a weak line on a report.

Do you send a tutor to our home in Dubai for DP1 sessions?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. The cost case is plain: Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500 against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the premium is the commute. In DP1 it is especially poor value, because the Higher Level subjects most often needed have the thinnest local pools at any price.

Can a group class work for a DP1 subject?+

For shared content revision, reasonably. For most of what is worth buying in DP1, no. Internal assessment coaching is about one student's own research question and their own drafts, which cannot be done in a group. Component technique — Paper 1 non-calculator work in Analysis and Approaches, Paper 1 guided analysis in English A — is about one student's specific errors. If the budget is tight, fewer one-to-one sessions targeted at a named component is a better economy than more group sessions covering content the student may already hold.

What does uncertainty treatment have to do with a Physics HL budget?+

It is where the marks are, which makes it where the money should go. Uncertainty treatment — propagating an error, drawing sensible error bars, justifying the precision of a stated result — separates IB Physics from most national syllabuses and is thin in many students' prior preparation. It is also finite: a nameable set of techniques rather than a volume of content. That makes it the highest-return target in a Physics HL budget, well ahead of revising topics the student can already describe but cannot quantify.

When will the IB exams be, and should we plan the budget around them?+

UAE IB schools sit the May session, and we do not publish a specific IB exam or results date on these pages because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and a wrong date is worse than none. Ask your Diploma coordinator for the entered session in writing and verify against ibo.org. For budgeting, the examinations are not the live DP1 constraint anyway — the school's internal assessment deadlines are, and those are the dates to plan spending against because they are where the tractable marks sit.

Does a tutor need a UAE licence, and should it appear in the price?+

A permit is required and it is free, so it should not appear in any quote. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through a MoHRE private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule.

What happens if no tutor is free for Chemistry HL at the hour we need?+

We tell you instead of substituting. Higher Level sciences, Maths AA HL and HL Economics are the thinnest subjects in this market, and a specific evening hour on Gulf Standard Time in one of them sometimes cannot be filled immediately. Booking a generalist against a Higher Level syllabus wastes a term, which in DP1 is the term that mattered. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India, delivered identically by live video. No home visits occur in the UAE in any case.

Can we buy an IA to take the pressure off?+

No, and the reason matters more than the refusal. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is an IB malpractice trigger, and the consequence falls on the student — who can be excluded — not on the seller, who keeps the fee. What is legitimately available is criteria explained letter by letter with the marks attached, the research question interrogated, methodology taught, and written feedback on the student's own drafts. The test is whether the student could defend every line in an oral examination.

How does the Dubai school fee position affect a DP1 tutoring budget?+

It makes the largest number predictable and leaves tuition as the variable one. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. For a Diploma family that converts the question from whether to spend into where across two years to place it — and the answer this page argues for is DP1, with a reserve block held back for the weeks before mocks.

Decide which subject earns the hour, then buy it in DP1

Six subjects and one budget is the real Grade 11 problem, and it is solvable with three free pieces of information: the component weightings for each subject, the school's internal assessment deadline calendar, and the subject-change deadline. With those, the funding decision is made on marks-per-hour rather than on whichever report line looks worst. Add three or four sessions on the Extended Essay question and Theory of Knowledge, because up to three points for that little work is the best value in the programme. Book a free trial lesson in the chosen subject. Sessions are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not send tutors to UAE homes.
