Grade 10 IB MYP Tutor in Dubai

A grade 10 IB MYP tutor in Dubai is being hired at the most expensive moment in the middle years, usually all at once and usually late. Year 5 carries the Personal Project, the hardest criterion work in the programme, the options decision and, in some schools, an external eAssessment. This page prices that honestly in AED, says which months the spend actually lands in, and sets out what the two Diploma years ahead will add. Lessons are one-to-one and live online.

  • Year 5 costs laid out by month, not as one hourly rate
  • Market AED bands published with the source named

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The year everything is bought at the same time

Grade 10 is where Dubai families spend most of their middle-years tutoring budget, and they spend it in the wrong months. The pattern is consistent: nothing through Grades 6 to 9, then a Personal Project crisis in the autumn, then a subject panic before options, then a second burst in the summer because somebody has mentioned that the Diploma is harder than this. Each of those purchases is made in a hurry, and purchases made in a hurry are made at the top of the band.

The band itself is public and nobody in this market publishes it, which is strange given it is the first thing a parent asks. A qualified subject tutor working online in Dubai sits at AED 150-300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Below that, EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52, which buys supervision rather than criterion-level diagnosis. Above it, named specialists run AED 200-450 and upward, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. In-home visits carry a travel premium that Bestimate puts at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500.

Converted to the figure a family actually budgets, Bestimate's Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240-600 a month at the budget end, AED 600-1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages visible in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those are market figures with their sources named rather than a price list of ours; our own quote follows a free trial lesson.

What makes Year 5 expensive is not the rate but the simultaneity. The Personal Project needs process coaching on a school-set deadline. The criterion B and C work is the most demanding in the programme. Options require a decision that shapes two more years. And in schools offering the MYP eAssessment route, there is an external examination to prepare for on top. Bought all at once in October, that is three or four parallel engagements. Bought in sequence, with the Personal Project in the autumn and the Diploma preparation in the summer term, it is the same work at a lower monthly peak.

There is one more number worth having in view. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. With the school fee held flat, tutoring is the variable line in a Dubai education budget, and the Grade 10 decision is where that line is largest in the middle years.

All IB Gram tuition in the UAE is delivered one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is an India-only service.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Grade 10 closes the MYP and opens the post-16 decision. The cost profile of each destination differs enough that the options choice is partly a budget decision, which nobody says out loud.

MYPAges 15-16 · Grade 10

Middle Years Programme, Year 5

The final MYP year, carrying the completed Personal Project with its process journal and report, the most demanding criterion B and C work in the programme, and in some schools an optional external eAssessment leading to the MYP Certificate. Subjects remain assessed against four lettered criteria scored 0-8 and converted to a 1-7 grade.

In Dubai, Year 5 is also the year the school's advice on the Diploma or an A Level route becomes concrete. Because the advice rests on performance across Years 4 and 5, a family spending heavily in Year 5 is partly buying a better options conversation — which is a legitimate reason to spend, provided it is named as such rather than disguised as general catch-up.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Every subject carries an internal assessment marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB, with external examinations in the May session for UAE schools and grades from 1 to 7 plus up to three bonus points.

The expensive destination, and worth costing before choosing it. Six subjects with coursework in every one means more parallel tutoring opportunities than an A Level route, and the final two terms sit in the exam-year band that Bestimate puts at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month. A family choosing the Diploma should know that the Grade 10 spend is the smaller half of a four-year picture.

IGCSEAges 14-19 · Years 10-13

IGCSE and the A Level route

Single-subject qualifications at 16 assessed largely by external written examination, followed by three or four A Levels. Cambridge International offers Core and Extended tiers in many subjects and runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November.

Usually the cheaper route to support, for a structural reason rather than a quality one: fewer subjects and far less coursework means fewer parallel engagements. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 against IB from AED 200, which reflects the same pattern. That is not an argument for choosing it — fit matters more than cost — but it belongs in the conversation honestly.

CPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma subjects paired with a career-related study, plus personal and professional skills, a reflective project, service learning and language development. Fewer Diploma subjects than the full Diploma, with a different core.

Rarely offered in Dubai, so a family interested in it has a short list of schools rather than a choice. Where it is available it carries a lower parallel-tutoring load than the full Diploma simply because fewer Diploma subjects are taken. Check the IB's programme finder and then the school directly, as school websites in this market are often a year out of date.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Year 5 subjects Dubai families most often pay for, with the specific reason the money goes there. In Grade 10 the spend concentrates in a small number of predictable places.

Mathematics (extended route)

MYP Year 5

The commonest single Year 5 spend, because the extended route is the gateway to Diploma Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. The money goes on criterion B generalisation and on algebraic fluency under time, not on topic coverage.

Mathematics (standard route)

MYP Year 5

Usually bought to secure a good MYP grade rather than to change route, since by Year 5 a route move is rarely granted. Worth being clear which of those two you are paying for, because they need different work.

Chemistry strand

MYP Year 5 sciences

Quantitative chemistry at its most demanding in the MYP, with every calculation resting on a correct balanced equation. A frequent Year 5 purchase and often a Year 3 gap being paid for at Year 5 prices.

Physics strand

MYP Year 5 sciences

Waves, electricity and energy with real calculation, graph interpretation where gradient and area both mean something, and unit discipline assumed. The underlying spend is usually on algebraic rearrangement rather than on physics.

Biology strand

MYP Year 5 sciences

Content-heavy and accessible, with the marks concentrated in criterion C: evaluating one's own method honestly. Cheap to fix with taught sentence patterns, which makes it the best-value science purchase in Year 5.

Language and Literature

MYP Year 5, English

Sustained analytical essays at the top of the MYP range. Criterion B, organising, decides most grades here, and essay architecture is faster to teach than insight, which makes this a good-value block rather than a standing slot.

Individuals and Societies

MYP Year 5

A student-formed research question, source selection and evaluation, at full independence. The closest MYP analogue to Extended Essay work, which makes Year 5 spend here a direct investment in DP1 rather than a Year 5 cost only.

Personal Project

MYP Year 5 core

Process coaching against school-set checkpoints. The spend is front-loaded into the autumn and should be a defined block with a deadline attached, not an open slot. A tutor coaches and gives feedback; nothing is written or produced for the student.

Design

MYP Year 5

A full design cycle with a student-identified client and documentation across four criteria. Marks are concentrated in the specification and evaluation stages rather than in the product, which is where the money should go.

Arabic, Islamic Education and UAE Social Studies

KHDA mandatory subjects

Required in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students and KHDA-specified languages of instruction. Support works from the school's own material, as additional content requires prior Ministry of Education permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format below is priced differently because it buys something different. All are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Personal Project block, autumn term

A defined number of sessions against the school's own checkpoint dates rather than an open slot. The tutor explains each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, tests the viability of the goal and the specification, and gives written feedback on the student's own journal entries and report drafts.

  • A fixed session count agreed against a known submission date
  • Criteria explained by letter, with the marks attached
  • Feedback on the student's own journal and drafts only
  • Nothing written, produced or corrected to completion

Single-subject block for the MYP grade

Where the aim is a better Year 5 grade in one subject, usually mathematics, chemistry or English. Priced as a term rather than a year, targeting the criterion that actually caps the grade rather than the subject in general.

  • One criterion targeted, identified from marked work
  • Written work set and marked against the descriptor
  • A term at a time, reviewed on criterion evidence
  • Honest when a better grade is not realistically available this year

Diploma transition block, summer term

The best-value purchase in Year 5 and the one families most often skip. Work in the final term on the specific gaps between MYP Year 5 and DP1 in the subjects the student has chosen, so DP1 starts from a secure position rather than from a standing start in September.

  • Targeted at the chosen Diploma subjects, after options are settled
  • Covers the actual gap: algebraic fluency, command terms, IA conventions
  • Six to ten sessions in the summer term, not a year-long slot
  • Cheaper than the same work in DP1 at the exam-year band

eAssessment preparation, where the school offers it

For students in Dubai schools that enter the optional external MYP eAssessment route. This is examination preparation rather than criterion coaching: timed practice, question-type recognition and written technique under time, which is a different purchase from everything else on this page.

  • Only relevant where your school actually enters students; confirm first
  • Timed practice rather than content teaching
  • Question-type recognition and written technique under time
  • A short block before the assessment window, not a year of work

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Dubai

Grade 10 tutors are usually brought in for two jobs at once: finishing the Personal Project properly and closing the gap into the Diploma. Those are different briefs and they are worth pricing separately rather than buying as one open-ended slot.

01

What a Grade 10 year costs in Dubai, month by month

The useful question in Year 5 is not what an hour costs but which months the money lands in, because the four main purchases do not compete for the same term. Families who buy everything in October pay the highest possible monthly peak for work that could have been spread.

The autumn term belongs to the Personal Project. It is a defined block against school-set checkpoints and it ends. At the mid-market band, a block of six to eight sessions is a predictable cost with a date attached, and it should not run past submission. Buying an open weekly slot for the project in September and still paying for it in March is the commonest waste in this year.

The spring term is where a single-subject block makes sense, aimed at whichever criterion is capping the grade that matters most, and where the options decision is taken. Options work is two or three sessions, not an engagement. The summer term, after options are settled, is where the Diploma transition block belongs — and it is the highest-return money in the whole year, because the same gaps addressed in DP1 sit in the exam-year band that Bestimate puts at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month.

A note on the rate itself. The Dubai market sorts into recognisable tiers: supervision at the bottom, where EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 and Tutopiya from AED 33-52; qualified subject teaching in the middle at AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; a travel premium above that, with Bestimate putting in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500; and a specialist band at AED 200-450 and upwards, TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. In Year 5 almost all the useful work sits in the middle tier.

The Personal Project: what it costs and what cannot be bought

  • Buy process coaching, timed against the school's own checkpoint dates
  • Six to eight sessions is the usual shape; agree the count and the end date first
  • The journal must be running evidence; a reconstruction loses marks on its own
  • A tutor coaches and gives feedback and does not write the report or the journal

The Personal Project is the MYP's culminating piece: a self-directed project with a goal the student sets, a process journal kept throughout, and a report assessed against lettered criteria, submitted in Year 5 against checkpoints the school sets internally. It is also the single artefact in this year most likely to be bought rather than produced, and it is worth being precise about where the line sits.

What can legitimately be bought is process coaching, and it is genuinely useful. A tutor can explain each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, test whether the goal is viable, ask the questions that sharpen a vague specification into one that can actually be evaluated against, read the student's own journal entries and report drafts and say what is missing, and teach referencing. Six to eight sessions of that, timed against the school's checkpoints, is a well-defined purchase.

What cannot be bought is the project. A tutor may not write the report, produce the process journal, design the project or correct a draft into a finished state. The journal is the specific trap, because the criteria reward running evidence of planning and reflection across the whole project and a journal reconstructed afterwards reads as exactly what it is, losing marks across more than one criterion. A reconstructed journal written by someone else loses them while also being a malpractice exposure.

The cost discipline here is simple: the block has a submission date and it ends at the submission date. Families who buy an open weekly slot in September for the Personal Project are frequently still paying for it in the spring, with the project long submitted and the slot drifting into general support that nobody diagnosed. Agree the session count and the end date before the first session.

03

The MYP eAssessment question, and whether it changes your budget

Some Dubai schools enter Year 5 students for the IB's optional external MYP eAssessment, which leads to the MYP Certificate; many do not. The first thing to establish is whether your child's school does, because the answer changes what Year 5 preparation looks like and families routinely spend money against the wrong model.

Where a school does not enter students, Year 5 assessment remains internal and criterion-based, and preparation means criterion coaching: understanding the descriptors, producing work of the type the criterion rewards, and getting written feedback against it. That is the work described everywhere else on this page.

Where a school does enter students, there is an external examination component on top, and preparing for it is a different activity. Examination preparation means timed practice, recognising question types, and writing to time — skills that are only loosely related to criterion coaching and that are typically bought as a short block before the window rather than across the year. A student can be strong on criteria and still underperform under examination conditions, which is precisely the thing timed practice addresses.

The budget implication is that a family in an eAssessment school has one more purchase in the spring term and should plan for it rather than meeting it as a surprise. The family in a non-eAssessment school does not, and should not be sold examination preparation for an examination that does not exist. Ask the school in writing whether their Year 5 cohort is entered, and for which subjects, before agreeing to anything described as exam preparation.

04

The MYP to Diploma gap, and why the summer term is the cheapest place to close it

This is the central cost argument of the page. There is a real gap between MYP Year 5 and DP1, it is specific and nameable, and it costs far less to close in the summer term of Grade 10 than in the autumn of Grade 11. Almost nobody does it, which is why DP1 tutoring demand in Dubai spikes in October.

In mathematics the gap is fluency under time plus notation. MYP criterion work rewards investigation and justification; Diploma Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator and rewards fast, accurate, correctly notated manipulation. A student can be excellent at MYP mathematics and slow at exactly that. Six sessions in the summer term on non-calculator technique is cheap; the same work in DP1, alongside five other subjects and an internal assessment, is not.

In the sciences the gap is the internal assessment genre and the quantitative step. The MYP criterion B and C structure prepares a student conceptually for the Diploma investigation, but the Diploma expects more sophisticated uncertainty treatment and a far longer, more formal write-up. A student who has seen what a Diploma-standard investigation looks like before September approaches their first one differently from one meeting the format cold in November.

In the humanities and English the gap is command terms and volume. The Diploma's instruction words set scopes the MYP does not use in the same way, and the reading load steps up substantially. In Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay there is no MYP equivalent at all beyond the Personal Project, which is why a student who did the Personal Project properly has a genuine advantage and one who outsourced it has a double disadvantage.

Online, in-home or group: what the premium actually buys

In the year with the largest middle-years budget, the delivery decision has real financial consequence and it is usually made on instinct. The instinct says a tutor in the room is better. The arithmetic says the difference is the commute.

Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Across a Year 5 that includes a Personal Project block, a single-subject term and a summer transition block, that premium compounds into a significant sum for no additional subject expertise. What it buys is proximity, and in Year 5 proximity is not the binding constraint.

The binding constraint is specialism. What a Grade 10 student needs is somebody who can read a Year 5 criterion descriptor against their work, or who knows what a Diploma-standard investigation write-up looks like. The pool of people who can do that in one Dubai community, at the hour the student is home after a long Year 5 day, is narrow. Over video it is not, and it does not shrink when the family changes address or travels.

Group formats deserve a word because they are genuinely cheaper and genuinely limited. An online small group costs less per student and works reasonably for shared content. It does not work for a Personal Project, which is by definition individual, and it does not work for criterion diagnosis, which is about one student's specific work. IB Gram's position on delivery is fixed: all UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, and we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are an India-only service, and if presence in Dubai is your requirement we will say we are not the provider.

Academic honesty, and why it is a financial question too

  • Allowed: criteria by letter, goals and questions interrogated, drafts read, feedback written
  • Not allowed: writing, dictating, producing a journal, correcting to completion
  • The test: could the student explain every decision unaided, without notes?
  • Official syllabus documents and mark schemes are linked, never reproduced or supplied

In the year a family is spending most, somebody will offer to solve the problem rather than teach it. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at Diploma level. That is an IB malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student, who can be excluded, not on the seller, who keeps the fee. The Personal Project is the Grade 10 equivalent and the pressure is the same.

What a tutor may legitimately be paid for is substantial: teaching the content, explaining each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, modelling how a piece of that type is structured using a different example, interrogating the student's research question or project goal, challenging an investigation design, reading the student's own drafts and journal entries and saying what is missing, and teaching notation and referencing. That is the work this page prices.

What a tutor may not be paid for is writing any part of a submitted piece, dictating a general rule or an evaluation, designing the investigation, producing the process journal, or correcting a draft into a finished state. The practical test is whether the student could explain every decision in the work unaided, to their supervisor, without notes. If not, the family has bought a liability.

On materials: we do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. We reference them and link the official source, because the official source is correct and legally ours to point at. A provider offering a private library of mark schemes as an inducement is telling you how they handle the rest of it.

07

MoE equivalency: a Grade 10 decision with a Grade 12 consequence

If there is any prospect of a UAE university application, the Ministry of Education equivalency requirements should be read before options are chosen in Grade 10, not in the final year. Parts of the requirement concern which subjects were taken, and by Grade 12 that is settled.

For the British track the published requirements are specific: passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. At least one page ranking in this market states that six IGCSE subjects are required, which is wrong.

For the American track, English proficiency is met by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB we will not publish a points threshold, because we have not read one on moe.gov.ae and an unsourced number here would be a liability rather than a service. Ask the Ministry or the school's university counsellor and get the answer in writing.

Two cautions. Equivalency and attestation are processes the Ministry and the emirate attestation authority run; they are not services IB Gram performs, influences or guarantees. And nothing about tutoring is required for equivalency, admission or progression — any provider implying otherwise is manufacturing urgency about a regulatory process they have no part in.

Permits, availability and the Dubai Year 5 calendar

  • MoHRE permit: free, valid two years, two working days, no published fine schedule
  • Do not seek an arrangement with your child's own school teacher
  • Year 5 demand peaks in the autumn and pre-options spring across the whole market
  • The post-options summer term is the cheapest place in four years to close the Diploma gap

On the legal position of whoever you pay: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted amount as unverified. A provider building a permit fee into a rate is inventing it.

There is a restriction worth knowing while comparing quotes. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. So an arrangement built around your child's own teacher is not one to seek. This is press-reported rather than read from the policy document, so verify against current ADEK guidance.

On availability, the honest position: Year 5 demand concentrates in the same months across the whole Dubai market, which means the autumn Personal Project window and the pre-options spring are when specialist slots are hardest to get. Mathematics, English and the sciences at Year 5 level are reasonably covered; a specific evening hour in a loaded month sometimes cannot be filled immediately. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India, delivered identically by live video on Gulf Standard Time. No home visits happen in the UAE.

On the calendar, the UAE working week runs Monday to Friday with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, so Friday evening is a school night. During Ramadan the school day shortens and the productive window moves, for many families to after Iftar, which is better agreed in advance than renegotiated weekly. And the summer term, after options are settled, is the window this page keeps returning to: it is the cheapest place in four years to close the Diploma gap, and it is almost entirely unused.

Where we tutor

Dubai communities and what the commute costs you in Year 5

In the busiest MYP year the commute is a budget item, because a session that cannot reliably start is a session paid for and lost. Where you live decides which hours are real.

Dubai Hills Estate

Schooling inside the community keeps a 4.30pm weekday start viable, which in Year 5 means two sessions a week without encroaching on the evening. The most forgiving area in Dubai for a heavy tutoring term.

Al Barsha and Tecom

Central with short drives to several clusters, so a twice-weekly pattern holds through a Personal Project term. Useful when mathematics and the project need attention in the same months.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Short runs to the older school belt, with activity commitments rather than traffic competing for the hour. In Year 5 that competition is usually resolved in favour of the academic work, which is worth deciding deliberately.

Arabian Ranches and Mudon

A long run along the Al Khail corridor for some schools, so 5pm or later. A weekend session is often the more dependable half of a twice-weekly Year 5 arrangement here.

Mirdif and Al Khawaneej

Short commutes and a dense school presence, so earlier starts are achievable. Families here usually place the harder subject in the earlier slot, which is the right way round in a loaded year.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment living with a drive to most schools, so the evening slot is standard and weekend work is more productive during assessment weeks. Budget for the fact that a 6.30pm Year 5 session is lower-yield.

Silicon Oasis and Academic City

Close to several institutions with short journeys, supporting earlier weekday starts and a twice-weekly pattern through the Personal Project term.

Business Bay and Downtown

Few schools nearby and outward commutes, so 6pm or later on a school night. In Year 5 the realistic answer here is one weekday session plus a longer weekend one rather than two weekday slots.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai schools running MYP Year 5 into their own Diploma

Where the school carries students from MYP into its own Diploma, the transition gap is usually smaller and better managed, which reduces the summer-term spend. The Personal Project checkpoints also tend to be better communicated.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • Uptown International School
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS International School Al Khail

Dubai schools where Year 5 students split across routes

Where MYP students move into A Levels, or into a different school for the Diploma, Year 5 carries an extra cost: an application or entrance process alongside the Personal Project. Worth factoring into the autumn rather than discovering it.

  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Deira International School
  • Universal American School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • South View School
  • Arcadia Global School

Schools are named as Dubai market context only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement from any school or school group listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the Personal Project checkpoint dates in writing

Not the IB submission window, the school's own internal checkpoints. They determine when the autumn block runs and when it ends. Without them the project block has no end date and tends to drift into an undiagnosed general slot by spring.

  2. 02

Decide which of the four Year 5 purchases you are making

Personal Project coaching, a single-subject block for the MYP grade, options sessions, or the summer Diploma transition block. They are different purchases in different terms. Buying them as one open-ended weekly slot is how a Year 5 budget doubles quietly.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson before any payment

One session, no charge, with the tutor matched to the subject and the job. By the end of it you should have a named criterion or a named gap, not a general impression. If the match is wrong you say so, and we match again before any money changes hands.

  4. 04

Ask whether your school enters the eAssessment

In writing, and for which subjects. If it does, there is an extra short block of timed practice in the spring. If it does not, nobody should be selling you examination preparation for an examination your child will not sit.

  5. 05

Book the summer transition block when options are settled

Six to ten sessions in the final term, targeted at the gaps between Year 5 and DP1 in the subjects actually chosen. This is the highest-return money in the year, because the same work in DP1 sits in the exam-year band alongside five other subjects.

  6. 06

Close each block on its date

The Personal Project block ends at submission. The subject block is reviewed on criterion evidence at the end of term. The transition block ends when DP1 starts. Named end dates are what separates a Year 5 plan from a standing subscription.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We publish the AED bands with sources

Three of the six competitor pages measured in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote dollars. Every figure here is attributed to whoever published it, with the review date, because a family comparing quotes needs the market rather than a brochure.

Four purchases, four terms, four end dates

Year 5 is expensive because families buy everything in October. Sequenced properly — project in the autumn, subject and options in the spring, Diploma transition in the summer — it is the same work at a far lower monthly peak.

We will say when a better grade is not available

By Year 5 a mathematics route move is rarely granted and some criterion ceilings are genuine. Saying so is more useful than taking a term's fees for a campaign that will not land, and it redirects the budget to the transition block where it does work.

The summer term argument, made plainly

The MYP to DP1 gap is specific: non-calculator fluency, the Diploma investigation format, command-term scope, research process. Closing it in the Grade 10 summer costs a block. Meeting it in DP1 costs the exam-year band alongside five other subjects.

Honesty where the pressure is highest

The Personal Project is the artefact most likely to be bought rather than produced, and a journal written by someone else loses marks on its own terms as well as being a malpractice exposure. The boundary is on the page: coached, read, fed back, never written.

Clear about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, no KHDA approval or regulator accreditation, no UAE office. We publish no IB session or results date anywhere on these pages, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and a wrong date is worse than none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much should a Dubai family budget for a Grade 10 MYP year?+

Plan by term rather than by hour. Market rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150, and Bestimate's Dubai monthly estimates for a weekly session run AED 240-600 at the budget end and AED 600-1,200 in the middle. Year 5 typically involves a Personal Project block in the autumn, a single-subject block in the spring, two or three options sessions, and a summer transition block. Bought in sequence, the monthly peak is far lower than buying all four in October.

Why is Grade 10 the most expensive year of the MYP?+

Because four things are purchased at the same time, not because the rate is higher. Year 5 carries the Personal Project on school-set deadlines, the most demanding criterion B and C work in the programme, the options decision, and in some schools an external eAssessment. Families who did nothing in Grades 6 to 9 meet all four at once in October and buy them in a hurry, which is always at the top of the band. The same work spread across the three terms is markedly cheaper and produces better results.

Can I pay someone to help finish the Personal Project?+

You can pay for process coaching and you cannot pay for the project. A tutor may explain each criterion letter by letter with the marks attached, test whether the goal is viable, sharpen a vague specification, read your child's own journal entries and report drafts and say what is missing, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write the report, produce the journal, design the project or correct a draft to completion. The journal is the specific trap: the criteria reward running evidence of planning and reflection, so a reconstruction loses marks on its own terms.

Is the MYP eAssessment something we need to prepare for?+

Only if your school enters students for it, and many Dubai schools do not. Ask in writing whether your Year 5 cohort is entered and for which subjects. Where it is, there is an external examination component and preparing for it means timed practice, question-type recognition and writing to time — a different activity from criterion coaching, usually bought as a short block before the window. Where it is not, nobody should be selling you examination preparation for an examination your child will not sit.

What is the single best use of money in Grade 10?+

The summer term transition block, after options are settled, and almost nobody buys it. Six to ten sessions on the specific gaps between MYP Year 5 and DP1 in the subjects actually chosen: non-calculator fluency and notation for Analysis and Approaches, the Diploma investigation format and uncertainty treatment for the sciences, command-term scope and reading volume for English. The same work met in DP1 sits in the exam-year band that Bestimate puts at AED 1,000-2,000 or more a month, alongside five other subjects and a first internal assessment.

What is the actual gap between MYP Year 5 maths and DP1 maths?+

Speed, notation and the calculator. MYP criterion work rewards investigation and justified generalisation, which is valuable and slow. Diploma Paper 1 in Analysis and Approaches is sat without a calculator at both levels and rewards fast, accurate, correctly notated manipulation under time. A student can be excellent at MYP mathematics and genuinely slow at that, and the fix is non-calculator technique practised repeatedly. Six to eight sessions in the Grade 10 summer term is cheap; the same hours in DP1 compete with five other subjects.

Does choosing the IB Diploma over A Levels cost more in tutoring?+

Usually yes, for a structural reason rather than a quality one. The Diploma means six subjects with an internal assessment in every one, plus Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which creates more parallel tutoring opportunities than three or four examined A Levels. Unitors' own published rates reflect the same pattern, with IGCSE from AED 150 against IB from AED 200. That is not a reason to choose A Levels — fit matters far more than cost — but it belongs in the conversation honestly rather than being discovered in DP1.

Can my child still move up a maths route in Grade 10?+

Rarely, and it is better to know that before paying for a campaign. By Year 5 the standard and extended routes have diverged in content rather than only in pace, and most Dubai schools decline moves on those grounds rather than on ability. If a route move is what you want, Grade 8 or Grade 9 was the time. What is still worth buying in Year 5 is a strong grade in the current route plus the summer transition block, which protects the Diploma options that remain genuinely available.

Do you come to our home in Dubai for Grade 10 sessions?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one, live over video, on Gulf Standard Time. The cost side is worth seeing plainly: Bestimate puts in-home visits at AED 180-350 and independent home tutors at AED 200-500, against AED 150-300 for a qualified online subject tutor. Across a Year 5 with three separate blocks that premium compounds into real money, and what it buys is proximity rather than subject expertise.

Is an online group class a cheaper option for Year 5?+

It is cheaper per student and it is limited in ways that matter in Year 5. A small online group works reasonably for shared content delivery. It does not work for the Personal Project, which is individual by definition, and it does not work for criterion diagnosis, which is about one student's specific marked work against a specific descriptor. If the budget is tight, the better economy is fewer sessions of one-to-one targeted at a named criterion than more sessions of group content the student may already have.

Which subjects should we read the equivalency rules for before options?+

All of them, before the choices are made rather than in Grade 12. The published British-track requirements are five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade — with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. For the IB track we will not publish a points threshold we have not read on moe.gov.ae. The Ministry runs this process; IB Gram has no part in it and nothing about tutoring is required for it.

When in the Grade 10 year do tutor slots get hardest to find?+

The autumn Personal Project window and the pre-options spring, because Year 5 demand concentrates in the same months across the whole Dubai market. Mathematics, English and the Year 5 sciences are reasonably covered overall, but a specific evening hour in a loaded month sometimes cannot be filled immediately, and we will say so rather than booking a generalist. Where no UAE-based specialist is free, matching extends to our wider base including IB specialists in India, delivered identically by live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Should a Year 3 science gap be fixed now or left alone?+

Fixed now, and it is usually cheaper than it looks. Year 5 quantitative chemistry rests entirely on being able to write a correct balanced equation first, and Year 5 physics rests on automatic formula rearrangement. A student struggling with either is often paying Year 5 prices for a Year 3 gap. Four to six sessions taking the earlier skill to automaticity frequently recovers more Year 5 marks than twenty sessions of Year 5 content, because the Year 5 content was being attempted on a foundation that would not hold it.

How do we avoid a Year 5 tutoring slot drifting on after it is needed?+

Name the end date before the first session. The Personal Project block ends at submission. The subject block is reviewed on criterion evidence at the end of term. The transition block ends when DP1 starts. The commonest waste in Year 5 is an open weekly slot bought in September for the project and still being paid for in March, by which point nobody has diagnosed what it is for. A block with a session count and a date is a purchase; an open slot is a subscription.

Do private tutors in Dubai have to be licensed, and does it affect the price?+

They need a permit and it is free, so it should not appear in a quote. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through a MoHRE private tutor work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze change our tutoring decision?+

It makes the biggest number in the budget predictable for a year and leaves tutoring as the variable one. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total. With the fee held flat, the Year 5 question becomes where in the year to place the tutoring spend rather than whether to make it, and the answer this page keeps returning to is the post-options summer term.

Sequence the four purchases rather than buying them in October

Grade 10 is the most expensive year in the middle years, and most of the excess comes from timing rather than from rates. The Personal Project belongs in the autumn as a block with a submission date. The subject work and the options decision belong in the spring. And the Diploma transition block belongs in the summer term, where six to ten sessions do work that costs the exam-year band if it waits until DP1. Book a free trial lesson, bring two pieces of marked work and the school's Personal Project checkpoint dates. Sessions are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time; we do not send tutors to UAE homes.
