Edexcel IGCSE English Language B 4EB1 Home Tutor in Dubai

The cost of an Edexcel IGCSE English Language B 4EB1 home tutor in Dubai is mostly the drive. Published in-home rates in this city run well above online ones, and the gap is travel time recovered inside your hour. This page does that arithmetic community by community, prices the correction work that an additional-language paper actually needs, and shows how to verify a tutor is permitted to teach here. Lessons run one-to-one over live video.

  • Every AED band here is attributed to the provider that published it
  • The travel component of an in-home rate is calculated, not glossed over
  • Correction turnaround is quoted in the plan before anything is booked
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free; no rate here includes a permit fee

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What you are paying for, and how much of it is the drive

Start with the two published bands, because the gap between them is the whole of the home-tutor cost question. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring rate table puts in-home one-to-one tuition at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500, and monthly in-home packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Unitors lists online International GCSE tuition from AED 150. EdFlik publishes AED 45 to AED 65, Tutopiya AED 33 to AED 52, TutorChase around AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the named tier. Those are their figures, published by them.

A large share of the in-home premium is not teaching. It is a car in Dubai traffic. A tutor delivering a sixty-minute lesson in Arabian Ranches from an address in Deira is committing well over two hours to that booking, and that time is recovered somewhere: in the rate, in a two-hour minimum, or in a service radius so tight that your choice of tutor shrinks to whoever lives nearby. None of those three is dishonest. They are what distance costs in a city of this size.

For English Language B the arithmetic has a second layer, and it is the one that catches families out. 4EB1 is the Pearson International GCSE for students working in English as an additional language, assessed by written examination with no coursework route, so the whole grade rests on exam performance. Confirm the current paper structure on the Pearson subject page with your school. What that structure means commercially is that the work which moves a grade is correction: somebody reading timed writing closely enough to name which error family is costing marks, repeatedly, over months.

Correction is expensive because it takes real time, and it is the first thing to vanish from a cheap hour. At AED 33 to AED 65 an hour nobody can afford to spend thirty minutes on a written piece, so what gets bought at that rate is conversation about English rather than correction of it. That is arithmetic, not a judgement about the tutors involved, and it is why the cheapest option on a language paper is frequently the most expensive thing a family does.

There is a third cost, invisible on any rate card, which is time. An additional-language learner in a Dubai private school is also carrying mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies, required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed international curriculum, with KHDA calculating their instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit. A plan that assumes two free weekday evenings is a plan that will be abandoned by November, and abandoned plans are the purest waste in this market.

IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and UAE delivery is one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. What follows prices the real job: the travel arithmetic community by community, what correction costs and who should pay for it, the group-class maths, the permit position and how to check it, what a full year realistically comes to, and what to put in writing before money changes hands.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The same hourly rate buys a different thing at each stage, and for an additional-language learner the difference between spending early and spending late is larger than in any other subject. These four stages are the budget decisions, in the order they arrive.

EARLYAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9: the cheapest hours you will ever buy

Range grows fastest when there is no exam pressure and no deadline, and the hours are both cheaper in effect and more productive. A student who arrives in Year 10 with a working vocabulary and reliable sentence control needs a fraction of the support of one who does not. Families almost never spend here, and it is the clearest value in the whole sequence.

Dubai receives transfer students at every year point, and a new arrival in Year 8 with strong reading and untaught writing conventions is a very common profile. Spending a term on writing then costs less than spending a year on it in the exam years.

Y10BUDGETAges 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10: where the money does the most work

The year with enough runway for a slow variable to move. A term of weekly correction in Year 10 changes what a student can produce under time. The same spend in Year 11 can only organise what they already produce. If a family has one block of budget for this qualification, it belongs here, and that is a sequencing decision rather than a sales position.

Dubai departments commonly set the first full exam-style assessment in the spring of Year 10. That marked piece, with its band description, is the document that makes a quote specific instead of generic, and it is free.

Y11BUDGETAges 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11: paying for recoverable marks only

Range is largely fixed by now, so money spent trying to raise it buys very little. What remains available is task coverage, question operations, pacing, paper completion and the rule-based accuracy errors. A block aimed squarely at those is good value. A general English course at this point is not, and intensity does not accelerate language acquisition.

The Dubai spring term compresses mocks, entry deadlines and often Ramadan into a short run, and demand for English support concentrates into the same weeks. Effective prices rise through scarcity even where advertised rates do not.

RESITAges 16+ · after a result

Resit and private-candidate entry

Pearson International GCSE subjects are examined in a May or June series and again in November each year, so a disappointing grade is a months-long problem rather than a lost year. The tuition cost of a resit is usually modest because the work is narrow. The entry is the part to check, and the deadline sits well before the paper.

A student no longer enrolled at a Dubai school sits as a private candidate through a centre accepting external entries, and that centre sets both its own fee and its own registration cut-off. Confirm the cut-off before buying any hours, because the deadline fixes the calendar.

TESTSAges 16-18

When a proficiency test is the better purchase

Universities frequently want a test score rather than a school qualification, and published MoE guidance for the American track sets English proficiency at a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. Where a target university wants a test, some of the tutoring budget may belong there instead.

Test preparation and 4EB1 preparation overlap only partly, so they compete for the same hours. Establishing which the destination actually requires, in writing, before committing a budget is the single cheapest thing a family can do in this whole process.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This list prices the work rather than describing the syllabus: which parts of 4EB1 respond to paid hours quickly, which take terms, and which neighbouring subjects a family usually ends up funding alongside it.

Task coverage and audience

4EB1 writing

The cheapest marks on the qualification. A checklist applied to every piece, until the student checks it unprompted, recovers marks lost for not doing everything the task asked. Two or three sessions of work, and nothing to do with language level.

Question operations in the reading section

4EB1 reading

Fast and inexpensive. An additional-language student who understands a passage can still default to retrieval where inference was wanted, which scores at the bottom. A block of six sessions is the normal shape and the gain shows on an unseen timed section.

Pacing and paper completion

4EB1 examination

Cheap and frequently worth more than anything else available. A student who leaves the final task short is losing more marks than a term of range work would recover. One session plus two timed papers usually fixes it permanently.

Rule-based accuracy errors

4EB1 writing

Subject-verb agreement, irregular past forms, plurals, capitalisation. These clear in weeks because a rule can be taught and drilled. Correction is the cost here, not explanation, and a short personal list beats any general grammar programme.

Pattern-based accuracy errors

4EB1 writing

Article use, preposition choice, countability, tense consistency across a paragraph. These take a term or more and improve by falling in frequency rather than disappearing. Budget them as a long correction programme, never as a block with an endpoint.

Vocabulary range and collocation

4EB1 writing

The slowest and most expensive thing to shift per mark gained. It is why spending in Year 10 beats spending in Year 11. Reading volume does part of the work for free, which is the only genuinely cheap lever available on this element.

English Language A (4EA1) as the alternative entry

International GCSE

The first-language qualification, with a coursework option available in place of one component. A student sitting the wrong one of the two can absorb a year of paid hours without the grade responding, which makes the entry question the first budget decision rather than an academic footnote.

Written subjects across the timetable

Science, humanities, business

An additional-language limitation costs marks in every subject with extended writing. Money spent on English accuracy therefore pays in several places, which is a genuine argument for funding it ahead of a second subject tutor.

English proficiency test preparation

IELTS, TOEFL iBT, SAT

A separate purchase with partly overlapping content. Where a target university asks for a test score, some of the budget belongs here. Establish the requirement in writing before splitting hours between two programmes competing for the same evenings.

Arabic as a first or additional language

KHDA mandatory subject

Mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students. Its weekly hours are a scheduling cost on any English plan rather than a fee, and ignoring them is how plans collapse.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy 4EB1 support, each described by where the money goes. The differences are about who reads the writing and how often, which is the only variable that reliably predicts whether a grade moves.

Weekly session with correction included

The shape that works and the one to price carefully. One timed piece between sessions, corrected properly, with one error family live per cycle. The correction is the expensive half and it is what makes the session worth attending, so establish the turnaround in working days before agreeing a rate rather than after the first invoice.

  • One timed piece per cycle, sat under exam conditions
  • Correction returned within a stated number of working days
  • One error family attacked at a time, closed only when it stays absent
  • Priced as a cycle, not as an isolated contact hour

Technique block with a fixed total

Six sessions on task coverage, question operations, pacing and the rule-based accuracy errors, with a defined cost and a timed paper at each end. For a Year 11 student this is where the available marks are, and the fixed total makes it the easiest purchase in this market to evaluate honestly.

  • Defined scope, defined session count, defined spend
  • Bracketed by two unseen timed papers marked identically
  • Targets only the marks that move inside weeks
  • Repeatable on a second category if the comparison justifies it

Correction-only cycle

The cheapest useful product on this qualification and almost nobody sells it. The student writes to time, the work is corrected against the published expectations, and a short written note names the one thing to change next. No contact hour at all. For a self-directed student with a clear error profile, it buys most of the benefit at a fraction of the cost.

  • No live session: writing in, correction out
  • Priced per piece rather than per hour
  • Suits a student who reads feedback and acts on it
  • Can be combined with a session once a month rather than weekly

01

The travel arithmetic: what an in-home hour actually costs in Dubai

The in-home premium is usually presented as a convenience charge and is mostly a time charge. Work it out from the tutor's side and the published rates stop looking arbitrary. A tutor who leaves at 15:15 to reach a 16:00 lesson in the villa belt and gets home at 18:00 has sold one hour and spent nearly three. Whatever they charge has to cover the three, which is why the Bestimate band for in-home visits sits at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors are quoted up to AED 500.

This produces two effects a parent feels directly. The first is the two-hour minimum, common in the outer communities, which turns a sixty-minute need into a one-hundred-and-twenty-minute invoice. The second is the service radius: a tutor who prices travel honestly can only serve a narrow band of the city, so your choice collapses from every English specialist in Dubai to the handful who live within a sensible drive. On a qualification where the specialism is narrow, that collapse costs more than the dirhams do.

The table below works through representative journeys. The figures are a straightforward estimate of commitment rather than a traffic claim, and the point of the final column is to show what proportion of the rate is paying for teaching. In the outer communities, less than half of it is.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service is available only in India, and UAE delivery is one-to-one over live video. The reason this page does the arithmetic anyway is that a parent comparing an in-home quote with an online one deserves to know what the difference is buying. Sometimes a visiting tutor is the right answer, particularly for a younger writer who needs someone beside them. For a Year 10 or 11 student on 4EB1, the travel premium almost always buys less than the same money spent on correction would.

02

Why the cheapest hour is the expensive choice on a language paper

  • Correcting one timed piece properly takes twenty-five to forty minutes
  • At the budget tier that time cannot be bought, so it is not happening
  • Ask for the correction turnaround in working days, not for a reassurance
  • Fewer corrected pieces beat more uncorrected hours on a language paper

In most subjects a budget tutor delivers real value. Homework gets supervised, content gets recalled, confidence improves, and at AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, the rates published by Tutopiya and EdFlik, that is a reasonable purchase. On an additional-language English paper the same rate behaves differently, and the reason is time rather than talent.

The work that moves a 4EB1 grade is correction. Somebody has to read a timed piece closely enough to see that the article errors are not random but follow a pattern, that the same four verbs are being formed wrongly, that a paragraph drifts tense in the third sentence every time. That reading takes twenty-five to forty minutes for a single piece. At the budget tier nobody can afford to spend it, so what the hour contains is discussion of English instead of correction of it, and discussion does not clear an error family.

This is why families regularly report a year of affordable tutoring with no movement. Nobody behaved badly. The product simply did not contain the active ingredient, and the parent had no way to know, because the rate card does not mention correction and neither does the website. The question has to be asked directly, and the answer to listen for is a number of working days rather than a reassurance.

The honest implication is uncomfortable but useful: for this qualification, fewer corrected pieces beat more uncorrected hours. A family with a limited budget gets more from one properly corrected timed piece a fortnight than from a weekly conversational hour, and the correction-only cycle described above exists precisely for that case. Buying less of the right thing is almost always better than buying more of the wrong one.

03

Group classes and centres: the per-student arithmetic

Group tuition is the genuine low-cost option in Dubai and deserves a fair hearing rather than a dismissal. A centre class splits a tutor's rate across several students, which makes the per-head cost materially lower, and for parts of this qualification that trade works. Task conventions, exam structure, question operations and pacing can all be taught once to a room.

What a group cannot split is correction. Reading one student's timed writing closely enough to identify their specific error families is individual work by definition, and in a class of six it either happens for one student at a time, slowly, or it happens superficially for everyone. Since correction is the active ingredient on 4EB1, a group-only plan tends to teach the cheap marks well and leave the expensive ones untouched.

There is a second group effect specific to additional-language learners, and it cuts both ways. A room of students at a similar level produces useful speaking practice and normalises the experience of being wrong, which has real value for a student who has gone quiet in a mainstream English class. The same room moves at the pace of its median student, which for a learner at either end of the range means hours spent on the wrong thing.

The arithmetic below compares the models on the thing that matters rather than on headline price. Read the correction column first. The combination most families should price, and rarely do, is group work for the structural content plus a correction-only cycle for the individual writing, which keeps most of the saving and all of the active ingredient.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE, and how do you check?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and a parent is entitled to ask about it plainly. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

Because the permit is free, no component of any quoted rate is a permit fee, and a provider presenting one is describing something else. MoHRE's own service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. That page, rather than any summary of it, is the thing to check.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount can responsibly be quoted and a figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. One boundary is worth knowing before you ask anybody: a teacher at your child's own school tutoring your child privately runs against professional-ethics rules and the permit's code of conduct, which bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's rules for private and charter school staff are explicit about this.

A separate point on premises. A tutoring operation with staff and a location in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE premises, and holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from Pearson, Edexcel, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE or the Ministry of Education.

Budgeting a 4EB1 year, with the session calendar counted backwards

A year of support is the unit most families end up buying, usually without planning it as one. Planning it changes the total, because the Pearson calendar dictates when hours are worth most and when they are worth least. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects are examined in a May or June series and again in November. For the November 2026 series the final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so any plan should work from the live official timetable on the Pearson support site rather than from a date printed on a tutoring page, this one included. Your school's exams officer holds the authoritative version for your centre.

Counted backwards, the spending pattern becomes clear. Hours bought in the autumn of Year 10 are buying range growth at ordinary prices, and range is the slow variable that cannot be bought later. Hours bought in the spring of Year 11 are buying technique at peak demand, which is worth real marks but fewer of them per dirham. A family that spends the same total in the earlier window gets more, and that is the single most actionable cost finding on this page.

The table below is a planning frame, not a price list. No IB Gram rate appears, because none is published on these pages and any figure attached to our name here would be invented. What the table does is convert published bands into the shapes families actually buy, so that a quote can be checked against a pattern. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support; a quote far outside those deserves an explanation.

Siblings, shared hours and the per-child arithmetic

  • A shared session works when qualification, level and error families all overlap
  • 4EB1 and 4EA1 siblings cannot usefully share a session
  • Price a shared contact hour plus separate per-piece correction
  • Trial it once: some students work harder shared, others go silent

Families with two or three children in a Dubai school often want one booking to serve more than one of them, and the honest answer depends on how close the two students are in both level and qualification. Where the match is good the saving is real. Where it is not, a shared booking quietly becomes a group class of two moving at the pace of the stronger child.

The cases that work are narrow. Two siblings on the same qualification, within a grade of each other, with overlapping error families, can genuinely share a weekly session and the correction can still be individual. Two siblings on 4EB1 and 4EA1 cannot share a session usefully, because the expectations they are judged against are different and the teaching diverges immediately.

A better structure for mismatched siblings is a shared contact hour on the parts that genuinely overlap, which for English means question operations, task coverage and pacing, plus separate correction priced per piece. That keeps most of the saving and preserves the individual element, which is the part that moves a grade. Ask any provider to price that structure explicitly rather than assuming a sibling discount covers it.

One practical warning. A shared session changes how a teenager behaves, particularly a less confident additional-language learner sitting beside a more fluent sibling. Some students work harder; others stop speaking entirely. That is worth one trial session to find out, because the saving is irrelevant if the quieter child stops participating.

07

What to send, and what to get in writing, before any money moves

  • Send the marked piece with its band description, the section marks, and the entry
  • Ask for the correction turnaround as a number of working days
  • Get the first block's session count, total cost and exit terms in writing
  • Get any condition on a free trial stated alongside the word free

Most families ring three providers, hear three hourly rates and choose on instinct. The rates are not comparable because they describe different products, and five minutes of preparation turns three numbers into three like-for-like offers. Send the same three documents to each provider and ask the same four questions.

Send the most recent marked timed piece with its band description, the section or component marks if the school publishes them, and confirmation of which English qualification your child is entered for. Those three documents let a provider quote on your child rather than on an average, and a provider who quotes without reading them has told you something about how they work.

Then ask four things and write the answers down. What is the correction turnaround, in working days, and what will I receive? Which losses will the first six sessions target, and what in the marked piece says so? What gets reviewed, against what baseline, before I commit to a second block? And what happens if the honest answer is that the entry itself, or the school's own support, should come first?

Get three things in writing before paying: the session count and total cost of the first block, what happens to a missed or rescheduled session, and the exit terms after one month. If a free trial is offered, get the condition attached to it stated on the same page as the word free, because a conditional free trial not described as conditional is the first thing to be careful about. None of this is adversarial. It is the paperwork any competent provider already has and will send in an afternoon.

08

Spending on a slow variable without wasting it

  • Buy the fast losses first; they give early checkable evidence
  • Fund the slow correction work at a fortnightly cadence, not a weekly one
  • Reading volume is free and is a real lever on collocation
  • Fix the review date in advance, and change the method rather than the budget

Language range improves over terms, which creates a genuine budgeting problem: a family is being asked to fund something that will not visibly change for months. The temptation is either to give up at week eight or to escalate intensity, and both responses cost money without changing the outcome. There is a third option, which is to split the budget by speed.

Spend the first block on the fast losses. Task coverage, question operations, pacing, paper completion and rule-based accuracy all move inside six sessions and all of them show up on an unseen timed paper. That gives a family early, checkable evidence that the provider works, which is the thing most needed before committing to a long correction programme.

Then fund the slow work at the cheapest sustainable cadence rather than the most impressive one. A correction-only cycle every fortnight across a year costs a fraction of weekly one-to-one and delivers most of the accuracy benefit, because the active ingredient is the correction and not the conversation. Add reading volume, which is free and is one of the few genuine levers on collocation and idiom.

Finally, review on a fixed date agreed in advance rather than when somebody becomes anxious. One unseen timed paper at the midpoint, marked the same way as the first, with the error families counted. If the fast losses recovered and the open families have dropped from six to four, the money is working and slow is simply what slow looks like. If nothing has moved on either measure, change the method. Spending more on an unchanged method is the single most common way families waste money on this qualification.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

These notes are about the drive, because the drive is the cost. Each entry names what a visiting tutor is realistically committing to reach that community on a weekday afternoon, which is the figure that explains an in-home rate.

Arabian Ranches and Arabian Ranches 2

Villa districts reached from most of the city only through the afternoon peak. A sixty-minute lesson here can commit over two hours of a tutor's day, which is why two-hour minimums are common in this belt and why the quoted rate sits at the upper end of the published band.

Mudon, Town Square and outer Dubailand

Newer communities at the edge of the network. Travel in both directions is the single largest input into any in-home quote here, and families often find the available pool of English specialists narrows sharply once travel time is priced honestly.

Al Barsha and Barsha South

School-dense, so the roads between 13:30 and 16:00 are slower than the map suggests. A tutor crossing Barsha is charging for road time inside a lesson fee, and that is the clearest single illustration of what the in-home premium pays for.

International City and Al Warqa

Large additional-language populations and comparatively few locally resident English specialists at this level. The practical effect is that the in-home option is both expensive and thin here, which is where an online pool changes the answer rather than just the price.

Discovery Gardens and The Gardens

Apartment districts with students bussing out to Jebel Ali and Barsha. Short repeated contacts suit vocabulary work better than one long weekly block, and two half-hour online contacts cost less in total than one in-home visit with its travel.

Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence

Dense and well connected, so travel is less of a factor than parking and building access. The in-home premium here buys less than it does in the villa belt, which makes the online comparison starker rather than softer.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Established family areas where demand for English support concentrates early in the spring term. Effective prices rise through scarcity in this window, so a slot held from the autumn is a real saving even at an identical advertised rate.

Business Bay and Downtown Dubai

Central, reachable, and expensive in a different way: the constraint is a quiet hour in a busy household rather than distance. Money here is better spent on correction turnaround than on proximity, because proximity is not the scarce resource.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Qusais, Al Nahda and eastern Dubai

Schools in this belt teach substantial additional-language cohorts, and families here most often come with a quote in hand and no way to tell whether it includes correction of written work. That is the question this page exists to answer.

  • Our Own English High School, Dubai
  • The Indian High School, Dubai
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Al Diyafah High School

Jebel Ali, Barsha and southern Dubai

A mixed-curriculum cluster where English Language A and Language B entries both occur, sometimes within one year group. Students we support here often need the entry question settled before any budget is committed to either route.

  • The Winchester School, Jebel Ali
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • GEMS Metropole School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Star International School Mirdif

Schools are named only as context for the Dubai education landscape. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked piece and the entry confirmation

One recent marked timed piece with its band description, the section marks where the school publishes them, and confirmation of which English qualification your child is entered for. Three documents, no covering note needed, and they let a quote describe your child rather than an average one.

  2. 02

Free trial used as a cold diagnostic

The student sits an unseen timed piece with no preparation and it is corrected against the published expectations. The output is a written split of the losses into the fast ones, which move inside six sessions, and the slow ones, which take terms. You keep that document either way.

  3. 03

A block with a number attached

You receive the session count, what each session targets, the correction turnaround in working days and the total cost, before anything is booked. Where the honest finding is that the entry should be reviewed with the school first, the plan says that instead of selling a block.

  4. 04

Correction at the cadence the budget supports

Weekly where that is sustainable, fortnightly where it is not, and correction-only where a contact hour is not the active ingredient. Slots run in Gulf Standard Time and survive family travel and a Ramadan timetable shift with a calendar edit rather than a lost month.

  5. 05

A review on a date fixed in advance

At the agreed midpoint the student sits an unseen timed paper marked identically to the first, and the open error families are counted. The decision to continue, change method or stop follows from those two numbers rather than from how the sessions have felt.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every AED figure names its source

The bands on this page belong to the companies and rate tables named beside them. No figure is presented as an IB Gram price, because pricing follows a diagnostic and a written plan rather than a rate card, and a parent can check the originals.

The travel component is calculated, not glossed

An in-home premium is mostly recovered drive time, and this page works out roughly how much of each fee that is. A family choosing between formats deserves the arithmetic rather than a claim about convenience.

Correction is the product, and it is quoted

On a qualification with no coursework route, correction of timed writing is what moves the grade. The turnaround in working days and what you receive are stated in the plan before booking, because a rate without them is a rate for the cheaper half.

Cheaper structures get named

A correction-only cycle, a group class plus separate correction, or a shared sibling hour with individual correction all cost less than weekly one-to-one and suit some families better. They are priced explicitly rather than hidden behind a single rate.

The permit position is stated plainly

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, so no rate includes a permit fee. IB Gram holds no regulator or board accreditation, licence or partnership, and operates no UAE premises.

A review date fixed before you pay

One unseen timed paper at an agreed midpoint, marked like the first, with error families counted. If neither number has moved, the method changes rather than the budget, which is the discipline that stops a year disappearing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an Edexcel IGCSE English Language B 4EB1 home tutor cost in Dubai?+

Published Dubai figures put in-home one-to-one tuition at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour in Bestimate's rate table, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 and monthly in-home packages at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. Online qualified tuition is published from AED 150 by Unitors. A large part of that gap is recovered travel time rather than teaching. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and UAE delivery is one-to-one over live video.

What does an in-home visit actually add to the hourly rate?+

Mostly a car in Dubai traffic. A tutor leaving at 15:15 for a 16:00 lesson in the villa belt and returning by 18:00 has sold one hour and spent close to three, and the rate has to cover all three. That produces the two effects parents feel: two-hour minimums in the outer communities, and a service radius narrow enough that your choice shrinks to specialists who live nearby. On a qualification where the specialism is narrow, that second effect usually costs more than the dirhams.

Is a cheaper tutor a false economy for an additional-language learner?+

Often, and for a specific mechanical reason. What moves a 4EB1 grade is correction: reading a timed piece closely enough to see that the article errors follow a pattern and that the same four verbs are formed wrongly. That takes twenty-five to forty minutes per piece. At the published budget tier of AED 33 to AED 65 an hour, nobody can afford to spend it, so the hour contains discussion of English rather than correction of it. Families then report a year of affordable tutoring with no movement, and nobody behaved badly.

How much does correction work cost, and who should pay for it?+

It costs real time, which is why it is the component most often missing from a rate. The useful approach is to price the cycle rather than the hour: one timed piece corrected properly plus one session built on that correction. Ask what the turnaround is in working days and what you receive, and compare two providers on those two answers rather than on the hourly figure. A provider who will not quote a turnaround is quoting for the contact hour alone, which on this qualification is the cheaper half of the job.

Does a tuition centre group class work out cheaper for 4EB1?+

Per head, clearly yes, and for some of the work it is genuinely good value. Task conventions, exam structure, question operations and pacing can all be taught once to a room, and a group of similar-level learners gives a quiet student useful speaking practice. What a group cannot split is correction of one student's individual writing, which is the active ingredient here. The structure worth pricing, and rarely offered, is group work for the structural content plus a correction-only cycle for the writing.

Can two siblings share a 4EB1 booking to halve the cost?+

Only when the match is close: the same qualification, within a grade of each other, with overlapping error families. Two siblings on 4EB1 and 4EA1 cannot usefully share a session, because the expectations they are judged against differ and the teaching diverges immediately. A better structure for mismatched siblings is a shared contact hour on the genuinely overlapping parts plus separate per-piece correction. Trial it once before committing, because some students work harder in a shared session and others stop speaking entirely.

What does the UAE private tutor permit cost, and do we pay for it?+

Nothing, and no. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system. Any component of a quoted rate presented as a permit or licensing fee is describing something else. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule.

How do I check a tutor is legally allowed to teach privately in the UAE?+

Ask to see the permit and ask which eligibility category they applied under, since the resolution lists registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Pair that with a marking question, because eligibility and competence are different things. One boundary to know in advance: a teacher at your child's own school is barred by professional-ethics rules and the permit's code of conduct from tutoring students affiliated with that school, which in Abu Dhabi ADEK states explicitly.

What should we budget for a 4EB1 resit in the November series?+

The tuition part is usually modest, because a resit is narrow work aimed at named losses rather than a course repeated, so a defined block at the tier rate is the normal shape. The entry is what needs checking. A student still at a Dubai school ordinarily has entries handled by the school; one who has left sits as a private candidate through a centre accepting external entries, and that centre sets its own fee and its own registration cut-off. Confirm the cut-off first, because the deadline rather than the exam date fixes your calendar.

Is it cheaper to start 4EB1 support in Year 10 or Year 11?+

Year 10, decisively, and the reason is what the money can buy in each window. Vocabulary range and the pattern-based accuracy families move over terms, so they can only be bought where there is runway. By the spring of Year 11 the range is largely fixed and the available marks are task coverage, question operations, pacing and rule-based errors. The same total spent earlier buys both sets of marks; spent later it buys one. Dubai demand also concentrates city-wide into the spring, so effective prices rise through scarcity.

Do we pay for sessions missed during Ramadan or family travel?+

That depends entirely on the provider, which is why it belongs in writing before the first payment. Ask specifically what happens to a missed session, a rescheduled session and an unused session inside a monthly package, because package terms are where this usually bites. Because delivery here is online over live video, a Ramadan timetable shift to post-Iftar hours or a trip abroad is a calendar edit rather than a lost month, which removes most of the reason the question arises in the first place.

Should we buy a monthly package or pay per session for 4EB1?+

Judge it on the terms rather than the headline saving. Market packages in Dubai include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. A package is good value when the cadence genuinely matches the plan and the slot is held. It is poor value when it fixes a frequency no diagnostic has justified, or when unused sessions expire. For a slow variable like language range, a sustainable fortnightly correction cycle across a year often beats a weekly package bought for three months.

What should we send when asking three providers for a quote?+

The same three documents to each, so the quotes are comparable: the most recent marked timed piece with its band description, the section or component marks where the school publishes them, and confirmation of which English qualification your child is entered for. Then ask each the same four questions about correction turnaround, which losses the first six sessions target, what gets reviewed before a second block, and what they would say if the entry itself should be reviewed first. A provider who quotes without reading the documents has answered something.

How much should a full year of 4EB1 support realistically cost?+

Use the published monthly bands as the sanity check rather than any single rate. Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget tier, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-tier, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A year at mid-tier weekly cadence therefore sits in four figures a month for most of the year. A quote far outside those bands in either direction deserves a specific explanation, and a fortnightly correction cycle costs materially less than weekly contact.

Would paying for an English proficiency test be better value than tutoring?+

Sometimes, and it depends on what the destination actually requires. Universities frequently ask for a test score rather than a school qualification, and published Ministry of Education guidance for the American track sets English proficiency at a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. Establish the requirement in writing before splitting a budget, because test preparation and 4EB1 preparation overlap only partly and compete for the same evenings. IB Gram does not perform or influence equivalency or admissions.

Do the arithmetic before you choose a format

You now have both published bands, an honest estimate of how much of an in-home fee is recovered drive time, the reason a cheap hour behaves differently on a language paper, the group and correction-only structures that cost less, the permit position, and the windows where a dirham buys the most. Send the marked timed piece with its band description, the section marks and the entry confirmation, and take the free trial as a cold diagnostic. What comes back is a written split of the losses into the fast ones and the slow ones, with a block, a session count and a total attached. If the honest answer is that the entry should be reviewed with the school first, you will be told that. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
