IB IGCSE Tutor for Hartland International School Students in Dubai

An IB IGCSE tutor for Hartland International School students in Dubai should leave a paper trail a parent can read without taking anyone's word for it. Here that means a dated record: what was worked on each week in Sobha Hartland, what the marked evidence showed, and what changed. Lessons are one-to-one, live online, in Gulf Standard Time.

  • A dated weekly record of what was taught and what the marking showed
  • Draft trails kept, so a student's authorship is documented
  • Lessons delivered live online; no tutor attends a UAE address
  • Honest indicative scores against published criteria, never grade promises

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

The question a tutoring record has to answer

Three months into a tutoring arrangement, a parent should be able to answer a simple question without asking anybody: what has changed. Not whether the sessions feel productive, not whether the student likes the tutor, but what specifically is different in the work. Most arrangements in Dubai cannot answer it, because nothing was written down at the start and nothing has been marked and kept since. The sessions happened and left no trace.

The alternative is a record, and it is not elaborate. A dated note each week saying what was worked on, what the marked work showed and what the next task is. A baseline document at the start naming the failing component. A closing document at the end testing whether it moved. For Diploma students, a kept sequence of drafts showing how a piece of work developed. None of that requires special software and all of it can be read by a parent who does not know the subject.

Hartland International School families have a particular reason to care about the record, because the school runs a British route into the sixth form with an IB Diploma option. That means a student can sit IGCSEs marked question by question against a published scheme and then, two years later, be assessed against lettered criteria on work they produce themselves. The evidence that counts changes shape at that transition, and a family who has been collecting one kind suddenly needs another.

There is also a harder reason. Diploma work that a student produces independently has to be defensible as their own, and a documented drafting trail is what makes it defensible. A student with three dated drafts showing a question narrowing, data arriving and an argument forming is in a strong position if anyone ever asks. A student with one polished file and no history is not, even when the work is entirely their own.

So this page is about documents rather than promises. What a weekly record should contain. How to read a mock grade against the mock script, which tell you different things. What evidence a school actually uses when it forms a predicted grade. What a drafting trail looks like at each stage. And where the published examination dates sit, so the record has fixed points to measure against.

One caution about records, since they can be done badly. A log full of topic names proves only that somebody wrote a log. The entries that matter are the ones carrying a number: marks out of a total, a count of marks lost to a named cause, a criterion score with its descriptor. Those can be compared with next week's entry, and a comparison is the only thing that constitutes evidence. Everything else is a description of an hour that may or may not have achieved anything.

Delivery, once: tutoring for Dubai families is one-to-one, live, over video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. For a record-based plan this helps, because marked scripts, dated notes and draft versions accumulate in one shared place instead of in a folder somebody left at school.

At a glance

  • A dated weekly note: what was taught, what the marking showed, what is next
  • A baseline document at the start and a re-test document at the close
  • Draft versions kept, which documents the student's authorship
  • Mock grades and mock scripts answer different questions; read both
  • No predicted grades from a tutor, and no guaranteed outcomes at any price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Hartland International School families need evidence of three kinds: progress in Key Stage 3, mark-scheme evidence through IGCSE, and criterion evidence in the Diploma. The documents differ at each stage.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external examination, so school assessments are the only evidence available and they vary in form between subjects. The useful habit at this stage is collecting one timed paper a term from the board the student will eventually sit, which gives an external reference point years before it matters and costs almost nothing.

At a Dubai British-curriculum school this is where method habits are cheapest to install. Writing working out so it can be credited, and reading command words precisely, are both habits rather than knowledge, and both take weeks in Year 8 and months in Year 11 when they compete with revision.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Terminal papers graded 9-1 or A*-G, marked against a published scheme with marks allocated question by question. This is the cleanest evidence in school education: every lost mark attaches to a question, so a script shows exactly which topic, which method and which command word failed.

Dubai candidates sit the June series as the main window and November as the resit route. Tiering in several subjects caps the available grade before the paper is written, and the decision is made by the school on internal evidence, which is a reason to generate evidence at both tiers in Year 10 rather than accepting an assumption.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal Assessments are marked against lettered criteria with published descriptors; final papers are externally marked. The evidence is therefore half script and half draft trail, which is a different filing problem from IGCSE.

UAE schools sit the May session. No IB examination or results date appears here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and an unverified date on a page a family schedules around is worse than silence. Confirm each one with the school's Diploma coordinator, whose internal deadlines sit ahead of the IB's.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What the evidence looks like in each subject: what a marked script shows, and what a draft trail should contain. These are the courses most often brought by families in Sobha Hartland and the surrounding communities.

Mathematics (IGCSE and Diploma)

Core, Extended, HL and SL

Scripts show whether method was written out, because method marks cannot be awarded for an unwritten step. The clearest before-and-after evidence in any subject: the same question type, before and after four sessions of enforced written working, with the mark difference visible.

Chemistry

HL, SL and IGCSE

Evidence of improvement shows in units, significant figures and completed mechanism arrows rather than in whether the chemistry is understood. The Internal Assessment draft trail should show a research question narrowing and an uncertainty analysis appearing, which is what the criteria reward.

Physics

HL, SL and IGCSE

Recall questions usually score well while graph and extended-response questions cluster the losses, which is visible on a script as a geographic pattern rather than a topic one. Progress evidence is a second script with the same cluster filled in.

Biology

HL, SL and IGCSE

Command-word failure is the most legible thing on a biology script: accurate content answering a different question from the one printed. Four sessions of answer-shape drills produces one of the most visible mark changes available, which makes it good first evidence that a plan is working.

English Language and Literature

IGCSE and Diploma HL and SL

Progress is read from annotated drafts rather than scripts. The measurable change is whether quotations are interrogated or merely placed, and whether a summary task selects well. Both are visible to a parent comparing two drafts side by side.

Economics

HL, SL and IGCSE

Diagram errors repeat identically across a script, which makes them easy evidence: an unlabelled axis or a shift drawn the wrong way, three or four times. Higher Level evaluation has its own mark allocation and its appearance in a draft is a documented change.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study scripts show whether the stimulus was used at all. A paper of accurate theory with no reference to the company is a specific documented failure, and the improvement is countable: references to the case per answer.

Computer Science

IGCSE and Diploma

Pseudocode to the specification style is a documented skill distinct from writing working code, and trace tables show reasoning explicitly, which makes them unusually good evidence. A script reveals immediately whether a student is answering in the specification's notation.

Geography

IGCSE and Diploma

Case-study recall and data-response technique are separately assessed, and a script shows which is missing. Fieldwork or Internal Assessment components need a draft trail showing method decisions, which is also the protection against any authorship question.

Arabic as an Additional Language

KHDA mandatory stream

Required in every Dubai private school whatever the licensed curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, so the stream must be confirmed before a plan is written or the material will be wrong.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes, each producing a different document set. All are one-to-one live video with a named tutor who marks the work personally; none involves travel to a UAE address.

Diagnostic block with opening and closing papers

Four to six sessions bracketed by two timed papers under identical conditions. The documents at either end are the point: a written diagnosis at the start and a measured result at the close, so the decision to continue is made against evidence.

  • Baseline paper marked against the published scheme
  • Written diagnosis naming component, topic and command words
  • Dated weekly notes of what was worked on
  • Closing paper, unseen, same conditions as the first

Weekly one-to-one with a kept record

One subject, one hour, same slot, with marked work returned and a dated note each week. Over a term this builds a readable history, which is what makes a conversation with the school about a predicted grade a factual one rather than an impression.

  • Same tutor throughout, marking personally
  • Marked scripts returned rather than described
  • A short monthly summary naming what changed
  • Pauses during the school's own mock weeks

Draft-trail coaching for Diploma coursework

For Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, the work is staged and dated: question narrowing, plan check, first draft read against criteria, second draft read again. The student writes every word and the trail documents it.

  • Each stage dated and kept, so authorship is evidenced
  • Indicative criterion scores with the published descriptor quoted
  • Examiner-style questions about the student's claims, never supplied text
  • Timed to the school's internal deadlines, which precede the IB's

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a weekly tutoring record should actually contain

A record is only useful if a parent who does not know the subject can read it. That rules out lesson plans full of topic names and it rules out reassurance. Four items do the work: the date, what was worked on, what the marked evidence showed, and what the student is doing before the next session. Written honestly, that fits in five lines a week and accumulates into something genuinely informative by week six.

The entry that matters most is the second one, because it is the one that can be checked. Saying that a student worked on quadratics is a description of the hour. Saying that the student scored eleven of twenty on a set of extended-response questions with nine marks lost to unwritten method is a measurement, and the following week's entry can be compared with it. The first kind of note can be written without the session happening; the second cannot.

The fourth item, the between-session task, is where most of the available progress actually comes from and where most arrangements are silent. A plan that assumes all the learning happens in the paid hour will always look as though it needs more hours. Thirty minutes of targeted practice between sessions makes one weekly hour behave like two, and the record is what makes it visible whether that practice is happening.

A monthly summary on top of the weekly notes is worth asking for, because it forces a judgement rather than a log. One paragraph naming what has changed, what has not, and whether the original diagnosis still looks right. A tutor who cannot write that paragraph after four weeks has not been measuring anything, which is useful information in itself.

02

A mock grade and a mock script answer different questions

Mock season produces a grade, and the grade is the least informative thing in the envelope. It tells a family roughly where the student stands against a boundary that may itself be provisional, and it tells them nothing about why. The script tells them why, and most families never see it because nobody asks. Schools generally return scripts on request, and the request is free.

Read side by side, the two documents support different decisions. The grade supports a conversation about subject choices, tiering and whether a target is realistic. The script supports a decision about what to do on Tuesday. A family holding only the grade can worry accurately and act vaguely, which is the state most Dubai parents are in during the mock term.

There is a specific trap worth naming. A mock grade that is one boundary below target invites a plan of broad revision, which is usually the wrong response. If the script shows nine marks lost to unwritten method and six to a single topic, the efficient plan is four sessions of enforced working plus a topic rebuild, not a general sweep through the syllabus. The same grade can require quite different work depending on the script behind it.

The second trap is reading one mock as a trend. A single paper under unfamiliar conditions is a data point, not a trajectory, and students who are nervous in a hall produce scripts that understate them. Two papers under the same conditions, a few weeks apart, is the minimum for a trend, which is another argument for a termly timed paper rather than waiting for the school to produce one.

03

How schools form a predicted grade, and what evidence influences it

  • Predictions are a teacher's professional judgement from the evidence available
  • A kept record of marked work turns a parental assertion into a contribution
  • No tutor should issue a competing predicted grade
  • Evidence produced after the prediction is formed cannot change it

Predicted grades matter because university applications depend on them, and they are formed by teachers from the evidence in front of them: internal assessments, mock performance, coursework drafts and classroom work. They are a professional judgement rather than a calculation, which means the evidence a student generates in the months before the prediction carries real weight.

This is a place where a tutoring record has a practical use beyond the sessions themselves. A parent arriving at a conversation about a prediction with a kept history of marked work and measured improvement is making a factual contribution. A parent arriving with the view that their child has been working hard with a tutor is making an assertion, and teachers hear a great many of those.

What a tutor must not do is issue a predicted grade of their own. No tutor has the body of evidence a school has, and a competing prediction from outside helps nobody; it also tends to anchor a family's expectations to a number with no standing. What a tutor can legitimately provide is an honest indicative score against published criteria or a mark against a published scheme, which is a measurement rather than a forecast.

The timing point is simple and often missed. Evidence produced after a prediction is formed cannot influence it. If the prediction is made in the autumn of the final year, the work that shapes it happened in the preceding spring and summer, which is the argument for starting a record early rather than in the term when it would be most useful to have one.

04

The drafting trail on Diploma coursework, stage by stage

Diploma coursework has to be the student's own work, and a documented drafting trail is both the best way to produce good work and the best protection if authorship is ever questioned. The stages are the same across Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay: a question, a plan, a first draft, a revision, a submission. Keeping each stage dated costs nothing and produces a history.

The first stage is where most of the marks are won or lost. A question broad enough to feel interesting is usually too broad to answer within the word limit, and the consequence appears at the end, when the data is collected and the argument will not fit. Narrowing a question takes a conversation. Narrowing it after the work is done means discarding work. This single stage is the highest-value hour in the whole process.

At draft stage, legitimate feedback is an honest indicative score against each lettered criterion, the published descriptor that justifies it, and the questions an examiner would ask about the student's own claims. Does this graph show what the sentence says. Is this limitation weighed or merely listed. Is the conclusion supported by the data presented. The student answers those questions in writing; the tutor does not answer them for them.

What the trail demonstrates, read later, is the shape of genuine work: a question that narrowed, data that arrived and then surprised, an argument that changed in response. Fabricated work does not have that shape. A student with three dated drafts is in a strong position if anybody asks, and a student with one polished file and no history is not, even when the work is entirely their own.

The examination calendar as the record's fixed points

A record needs dates to hang on, and the examination calendar supplies them. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February and March series is offered to India only, so a Dubai candidate sits June or November, and any page giving a UAE parent a March window is giving them a date they cannot use.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those past dates are cited precisely because they are checkable. For any future series, read the live official timetable on the board's own site, since provisional timetables are revised.

There is one administrative risk larger than any tutoring decision. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. The zone belongs in the record, in writing, from the exams officer.

For the Diploma, UAE schools sit the May session, and no IB examination or results date appears on this page because ibo.org blocks automated verification. The dates that actually structure a Year 13 record are the school's internal Internal Assessment and Extended Essay deadlines, which sit ahead of the IB's. Get those in writing at the start of the year and build the drafting trail backwards from them.

KHDA, inspection evidence and the limits of a rating

  • Read the subject and phase commentary, not the headline band
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools
  • Content in those subjects is prescribed; tutoring works within it
  • IB Gram holds no KHDA permit and claims no regulator endorsement

Dubai private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which the UAE government describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate, inspecting annually across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education.

As evidence, an inspection band is coarse. It describes a whole school across all phases and subjects, and a parent deciding what to tutor needs something finer. The valuable section is the subject and phase commentary, which names attainment and progress by area and is written by inspectors rather than by a school's marketing team. A line stating that attainment in secondary mathematics is below expectations is independent evidence worth more than any provider's claim.

Two regulatory facts sit alongside. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs because curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ, and combined classes strictly prohibited. The use of different or additional content in those subjects without prior Ministry permission is prohibited, which constrains how tutoring in them can work.

And on approval claims: a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit issued to training institutes, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and describes no tutor as KHDA-approved or IB-approved. A regulator inspects schools; it does not endorse tutoring providers.

07

Why the record is also the honesty protection

  • A dated draft trail is what documents a student's authorship
  • Purchased coursework has no history, which is what invites a question
  • Criterion scores, descriptors and examiner-style questions are legitimate
  • The test: could the whole record be shown to the school coordinator?

The academic-honesty boundary and the evidence trail are the same subject viewed from two sides. Work that is genuinely the student's leaves a history, and a history is what demonstrates authorship. That is the practical reason to keep dated drafts quite apart from the quality benefit, and it is worth explaining to a student in those terms, because it makes the rule feel like protection rather than suspicion.

The context in this market makes it more than theoretical. At least one provider competing for these searches sells completed Internal Assessments. The fee is real and the mechanism is a risk transfer: the academic-honesty finding, if it comes, attaches to the student's record while the seller keeps the money. A purchased piece of work also has no drafting history, which is exactly the absence that invites a question.

The legitimate boundary is specific. A tutor may teach the content an assessment rests on, explain what each published criterion rewards, assign an honest indicative score and quote the descriptor behind it, help narrow a question until it is answerable in the word limit, confirm a method is viable, read the student's own draft and ask the questions an examiner would ask, and teach referencing conventions properly.

A tutor may not write, rewrite, restructure or supply text for submission, choose the question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit until the sentences are no longer the student's. A tutor should also not distribute syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; those are linked at source. The useful test for a parent is whether the whole record, including every draft and every piece of feedback, could be handed to the school's coordinator without discomfort.

08

Getting started, and what a straight answer on availability sounds like

  • The first paid hour produces a diagnosis, not a lesson
  • Weekly dated notes plus returned marked work, then a closing re-test
  • Scarce components are named rather than covered by a generalist
  • The free trial is one session with the actual specialist, no card required

The first step produces a document rather than a lesson: the most recent marked work, and a timed paper from the correct board and syllabus code sat under exam conditions and marked against the published scheme. From that comes a written diagnosis naming the component, the topic and the command words, with no predicted grade in it. If the proposed plan does not visibly follow from that document, that is the moment to ask why.

After that the shape is a block with a defined end, dated weekly notes, marked work returned, and a closing re-test on an unseen paper under the same conditions as the first. Either the component moved or it did not. If it did not, the diagnosis was wrong and the plan changes rather than extends, and the record is what makes that conclusion available by week four instead of at results.

Specialist supply is finite and the scarcest combinations are the ones families need most urgently: Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level Paper 3, Chemistry Higher Level mechanisms, a less commonly taught Diploma language, IGCSE Computer Science pseudocode to the specification style. No provider in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is worth noticing when every request receives an immediate yes.

Here a family is told the realistic timescale and the alternatives. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable, the tutor may be based elsewhere and working to Gulf Standard Time, which is disclosed before booking. The free trial is one session, free with no card required, with the specialist who would actually teach and mark. Lessons are one-to-one online; IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE.

Where we tutor

Sobha Hartland and the Mohammed Bin Rashid City side

Hartland International School sits in Sobha Hartland within Mohammed Bin Rashid City, a newer district between Al Khail Road and the Dubai Water Canal. Communities here are recently built, which means local tuition supply is thin relative to the number of school-age children.

Sobha Hartland

The school's own community, a compact mix of villas and towers. Journeys are short, so a 4.15pm session is realistic and a student can bring that day's returned work while it is still current.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

A large newly developed district with growing school-age numbers and almost no established tutoring supply, which is why the online pool is the practical route to a Higher Level specialist here.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities with a long-settled population and several schools nearby. Families here often hold children in two curricula at once and need the evidence from each system explained in its own terms.

Meydan and Dubai Hills

Villa and townhouse communities either side of the district. Diploma-age concentration is high, so Internal Assessment draft work is the most common request rather than paper technique.

Al Quoz and Business Bay

Mixed residential and commercial with difficult afternoon traffic. Any in-home arrangement here loses the first part of a session to arrival, which is the part meant for reviewing marked work.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Apartment districts on the creek side with a mobile population. Continuity of tutor through a family relocation or a long trip matters more here than in more static communities.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Sobha Hartland, Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

The cluster around Hartland International School is newer than most of Dubai's school stock, with British-route provision dominant and IB options in the sixth form. Families here are often making the IGCSE to Diploma decision inside one school rather than between schools.

  • Hartland International School
  • Kings' School Nad Al Sheba
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • GEMS Modern Academy

Business Bay, Al Jaddaf and Al Quoz

Denser apartment districts nearby with a broad curriculum mix and a mobile population. Students moving in mid-year from other systems are common, and the first task is usually translating their previous evidence into the new assessment's terms.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school for the script, not the grade

Request the marked mock or assessment paper itself. Most Dubai schools return them when asked. The grade supports a conversation about targets; the script supports a decision about what to do next week, and only one of those is actionable. If no script exists for a subject, ask what evidence the grade was formed from.

  2. 02

Sit one timed paper and keep it

A past paper from the correct board and syllabus code, under exam conditions, marked against the published scheme. This is the baseline document, and it is the only thing that makes a later claim of progress checkable. File it; a plan without a baseline cannot be evaluated at any point in its life.

  3. 03

Agree what the weekly record will contain

Date, what was worked on, what the marked evidence showed, and the task before the next session. Agree it at the start rather than hoping for it later. A tutor who declines to keep a four-line note each week is telling you something about how the sessions will be evaluated.

  4. 04

Take the free trial with the tutor who will mark the work

One session, free, no card required, with the specialist who would actually teach and mark. Ask what they made of the baseline paper and listen for specifics: a topic, a command word, a count of marks lost to method. Encouragement without a measurement is the signal to keep looking.

  5. 05

Re-test, read the record, then decide

At the close of the block a fresh unseen paper under the same conditions as the baseline, read alongside the weekly notes. Either the component moved or it did not, and the record will usually have shown which by week four. If it did not, the plan changes rather than runs on.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A record a parent can read

Four lines a week: date, what was worked on, what the marked evidence showed, and the task before next time. Written that way it can be read by someone who does not know the subject and compared week to week, which is the whole point of keeping it.

Marked by the person who taught

The tutor who teaches the session marks the work and returns the script. A different marker each week makes the marking incomparable, which destroys the evidence trail even when every individual session is good. One named specialist throughout is what makes a record mean anything.

Draft trails that document authorship

Diploma coursework is staged and dated: question, plan, first draft, revision. That history is both how good work gets made and what demonstrates it was the student's. Purchased work has no history, and the absence is exactly what invites a question later.

No competing predicted grades

No tutor here will issue a predicted grade. Schools form predictions from a body of evidence no outsider holds, and a competing number anchors a family's expectations to something with no standing. An honest indicative score against a published scheme is a measurement and is offered instead.

The honest entry when nothing moved

If a block closes and the component has not shifted, the record says so and the plan changes rather than extending. That entry is the one most arrangements never produce, and producing it is the difference between a term that cost something and a year that did not.

Delivery and coverage stated plainly

One-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. Where a UAE-based specialist is unavailable the tutor's location is disclosed, and there is no UAE office or centre to attend.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

What record will we get of my child's tutoring at Hartland International School?+

A dated note each week containing four things: what was worked on, what the marked evidence showed in measurable terms, the error pattern seen, and the task to be done before the next session. On top of that, a written diagnosis at the start of the block, the marked scripts themselves returned rather than described, and a short monthly paragraph naming what has changed and what has not. Ask for this at the outset rather than hoping for it. A tutor who will not keep four lines a week is telling you how the sessions will be evaluated.

How do I get my child's mock script rather than just the grade?+

Ask the subject teacher or head of department directly; most Dubai schools return scripts on request and there is no cost. The grade places a student roughly against a boundary and supports conversations about targets and tiering. The script shows which topic failed, whether method was written out so marks could be awarded, how far the student got before time ran out, and whether command words were read correctly. Those four facts determine what the next four sessions should contain, and none of them is visible from a grade alone.

Can a tutor tell me what grade my child will get?+

No, and you should be wary of one who offers. Schools form predicted grades from a body of evidence that includes internal assessments, mocks, coursework drafts and classroom work, which no outside tutor holds. A competing prediction anchors expectations to a number with no standing and can complicate a conversation with the school. What a tutor can legitimately give you is a measurement: a mark against a published scheme, or an honest indicative score against each published criterion with the descriptor that justifies it. That is checkable, which a forecast is not.

Does a tutoring record help with predicted grades at a Dubai school?+

Indirectly but genuinely. Predictions are a teacher's professional judgement from the evidence in front of them, and a parent who brings a kept history of marked work and measured improvement is contributing something factual rather than an assertion. Teachers hear a great many assertions about how hard a child is working. One timing point matters: evidence produced after a prediction has been formed cannot change it, so if the prediction is made in the autumn of the final year, the work shaping it happened the preceding spring and summer.

Why keep dated drafts of an Internal Assessment?+

Two reasons, and the second surprises people. The first is quality: narrowing a research question early, before data is collected, is the highest-value hour in the whole process, and a staged trail forces that to happen. The second is protection. Work that is genuinely a student's own leaves a history, with a question that narrowed, data that arrived and sometimes surprised, and an argument that changed in response. A student with three dated drafts is in a strong position if authorship is ever queried. One polished file with no history is harder to defend even when it is entirely honest.

What does legitimate feedback on a Diploma draft look like?+

An honest indicative score against each lettered criterion, the published descriptor that justifies it, and the questions an examiner would ask about the student's own claims: does this graph show what the sentence says, is this limitation weighed or merely listed, is the conclusion supported by the data presented. The student answers those in writing themselves. Nothing is inserted into the draft, nothing is rewritten and no sentence in the submitted work belongs to anyone else. A reasonable test is whether the feedback and every draft could be handed to the school's coordinator without discomfort.

My child's mock grade was one boundary below target. What now?+

Read the script before planning anything, because the same grade can need quite different work. If nine marks went to unwritten method and six to one topic, the efficient plan is four sessions of enforced written working plus a topic rebuild, not a general sweep through the syllabus. A broad revision plan is the usual response to a near-miss grade and usually the wrong one. Also treat a single paper as a data point rather than a trend: students who are nervous in a hall produce scripts that understate them, so a second paper under the same conditions is worth having.

What evidence should we be collecting in Years 7 to 9?+

One timed paper a term from the board the student will eventually sit, marked honestly against the published scheme and filed. It costs an hour and it gives an external reference point years before anything counts, which is the only way to notice a method or fluency problem while it is still cheap to fix. Writing working out so it can be credited, and reading command words precisely, are habits rather than knowledge, and they take weeks to install in Year 8 and months in Year 11 when they compete with revision for the same hours.

How does the evidence change between IGCSE and the IB Diploma?+

It changes shape entirely. IGCSE evidence is a script: marks attached to individual questions against a published scheme, so a lost mark has an address. Diploma evidence is half script and half draft trail, because Internal Assessments are marked against lettered criteria on work the student produces over months. A family who has spent two years collecting marked papers suddenly needs to collect dated drafts instead. Both are readable by a parent, but the filing habit has to change at the transition, and the time to set it up is the start of Year 12.

Who marks the work if sessions are online?+

The tutor who taught the session, personally, with the marked script returned to the family rather than summarised. This is worth confirming with any provider, because marking passed to a different person each week makes the marking incomparable, and a record built from incomparable marking is not evidence of anything. Ask who teaches each session by name and who marks. A named match at sign-up that quietly becomes a rota is the most common version of this problem in the Dubai market and the hardest to spot from an invoice.

What if the record shows nothing has changed after four weeks?+

Then the diagnosis was probably wrong, and the plan should change rather than extend. That is the entry most tutoring arrangements never produce, because nothing was measured at the start and so nothing can be shown not to have moved. The common causes are a misread failure pattern, a content gap larger than the block allowed for, or an underlying reading or processing issue that needs the school rather than a subject tutor. Extending an unchanged plan because the sessions feel productive is the most expensive mistake available in this market.

Do you provide tutoring at homes in Sobha Hartland?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Lessons for Dubai families are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For a record-based plan this is an advantage rather than a compromise: marked scripts, dated notes and draft versions accumulate in one shared place instead of in a folder left at school. It also means the tutor is chosen for the component in question rather than for willingness to drive into Mohammed Bin Rashid City at four in the afternoon.

Can the record be shared with my child's teachers?+

Yes, and it is usually worth doing. The record belongs to the family, and a subject teacher who can see a baseline paper, four weeks of measured notes and a closing re-test has something concrete to weigh rather than a parental impression. It also removes a suspicion that occasionally attaches to private tutoring, which is that work being submitted has had more help than it should. A complete, shareable record is the straightforward answer to that, which is another reason to keep the drafts and the feedback together.

How quickly should the first evidence of change appear?+

For a technique or command-word problem, within three or four sessions, because answer-shape habits respond fast and the change is countable on a script. For fluency work such as algebraic manipulation, expect six to twelve sessions before a measurable shift, since automaticity is built by repetition over weeks. For a genuine content gap, longer, and the first visible change should be in the specific topic rather than in the overall mark. If a plan predicts no visible change for a whole term, ask what intermediate measurement it offers instead.

Start the record before you start the sessions

For a family at Hartland International School, the useful first move is to collect two documents: the most recent marked script from the school, and one timed past paper from the correct board and syllabus code, marked against the published scheme. Together they form a baseline, and without a baseline no later claim about progress can be checked. Agree what the weekly record will contain before the first session, keep the drafts dated for any Diploma coursework, and set a closing re-test at the start rather than at the end. Book the free trial with the specialist who would teach and mark; lessons run one-to-one online in Gulf Standard Time.
