Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 Home Tutor in Dubai

Parents looking for a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 home tutor in Dubai usually want one thing: proof that something is changing. This page sets out what 0610 is actually marked on, what the Dubai market charges for an in-home science tutor, and why IB Gram delivers this support as live one-to-one video lessons instead. Every fortnight you get the same evidence an examiner would work from: a scored past paper, the published mark scheme beside it, and a written note of which of the twenty-one syllabus topics moved.

  • Lessons run live over video, timed to Gulf Standard Time evenings
  • Marked 0610 past-paper scripts returned with mark-scheme annotations
  • Core and Extended tiers taught separately, never blended into one lesson
  • A free trial lesson happens before any payment is taken

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

Why a 0610 search usually starts with a disappointing mock

Almost every enquiry for an IGCSE Biology tutor in Dubai arrives in the same week of the year. The Year 11 mock results come back in late January or early February, Biology is three or four grades below the other sciences, and the comment on the report says something general about revision technique. The grade is a number with no diagnosis attached. A parent cannot tell from it whether the problem is unlearnt content, misread command terms, bad timing, or a practical paper nobody has practised. So the search begins, and it begins with the phrase that feels most reassuring: somebody who will sit in the room and sort it out.

That instinct is sound and the diagnosis it is reaching for is real. Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is a content-heavy course with twenty-one syllabus topics, and a student can revise diligently for a month while leaving the actual leak untouched. The most common pattern we see in Dubai is a student who knows the biology and still loses a quarter of the available marks, because the answers are written as descriptions when the question asked for an explanation, or because the alternative-to-practical paper has never been attempted outside a classroom. Neither problem is visible in a percentage.

What fixes it is evidence rather than hours. A scored script with the mark scheme next to it shows exactly where marks went: which topic, which question type, which command word. A second script four weeks later, under the same timing and from the same paper format, shows whether the fix held. That is the whole method on this page, and it is the reason the format matters less than the marking. A tutor who marks loosely and encouragingly in your living room is less useful than one who marks strictly over video and sends you the script.

IB Gram is an independent matching platform, not a school and not a licensed training institute. Tutoring for families in Dubai and across the UAE is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the Emirates; that is a service offered only in India. The practical consequence is worth stating plainly, because it is the trade you are being asked to accept: you give up a person in the room, and in exchange the pool of available 0610 specialists stops being limited by who happens to live within a twenty-minute drive of your community.

The rest of this page is written to be useful even if you book nothing. It covers the market rates Dubai families are actually quoted, the component structure of 0610 and where the marks sit, the Core and Extended decision that sets the grade ceiling, the Paper 5 and Paper 6 split that most parents discover too late, and the permit rules that govern anybody charging for private lessons in this country.

At a glance

  • Twenty-one syllabus topics, three assessed components, one grade
  • Half the 0610 grade is carried by a single theory paper
  • Core tops out at grade C; Extended reaches A*
  • The practical component is 20% and is the least revised part of the course
  • Entries close months before the exam, and the school submits them
  • Private tutoring in the UAE needs a MoHRE permit, issued free of charge
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A 0610 student in Dubai sits inside a longer sequence. What came before shapes how much content is missing, and what comes next decides whether the Extended tier is negotiable. These are the four stages that matter when planning support for Cambridge IGCSE Biology.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Lower Secondary science, Year 9

The year before the IGCSE course formally begins in most Dubai British-curriculum schools. Biology is still taught as part of a combined science block, often by a teacher whose specialism is chemistry or physics. Cell structure, transport across membranes and the basics of nutrition are introduced here, and the gaps that open in Year 9 are the gaps that resurface in a Year 11 mock.

Dubai schools vary widely on when the 0610 syllabus actually starts. Some begin the course in Year 9 and run it over three years; others compress it into Years 10 and 11. Ask the head of science which model your child's school uses, because it changes what a tutor should be covering in October of Year 10.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610, year one

Content year. Most schemes of work cover characteristics of living organisms, organisation of the organism, movement into and out of cells, biological molecules, enzymes, plant nutrition and human nutrition in this year. Nothing is examined externally, which is exactly why the gaps accumulate quietly. A student can pass every end-of-topic test by short-term recall and arrive in Year 11 with no retrieval strength at all.

Year 10 is the cheapest year to buy tutoring in Dubai and the year fewest families do. Market rates sit at the lower end because the work is teaching rather than exam triage, and a weekly session in Year 10 removes the need for an intensive block in the spring of Year 11.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610, examination year

The remaining topics are taught while revision of year one runs alongside. Transport in plants and animals, diseases and immunity, gas exchange, respiration, excretion, coordination and response, drugs, reproduction, inheritance, variation and selection, organisms and their environment, human influences on ecosystems and biotechnology all have to land. Mock exams fall in the winter, final entries close months before the papers, and the practical component has to be prepared separately.

This is when most Dubai enquiries arrive, usually in the fortnight after mock results. There is still time: the gap between a January mock and a June series is roughly eighteen teaching weeks, which is enough to rebuild two or three weak topics properly and to fix exam technique across all three papers.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Biology or IB Diploma Biology

The destination that makes the tier decision serious. A Level Biology and IB Diploma Biology at Higher Level both assume Extended-tier fluency with enzymes, transport, respiration and genetics. Students arriving from Core-tier 0610 can succeed, but the first term carries a real content debt, usually in biochemistry and in quantitative handling of data.

Dubai sixth forms vary in what they require. Several British-curriculum schools in the emirate ask for a grade 6 or 7 at IGCSE before admitting a student to A Level Biology, and IB schools set their own Higher Level entry conditions. Check the published entry criteria for your child's school rather than assuming the national pattern applies.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Biology rarely travels alone. A Year 11 student needing 0610 support usually has one or two other subjects under strain in the same term, and the sequencing matters: fixing the subject with the nearest paper first is often better value than spreading three sessions thinly.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Twenty-one topics, three assessed components, one grade. Marks concentrate in the theory paper at 50%, with multiple choice at 30% and the practical component at 20%. Extended candidates carry supplement content that Core candidates never see, which is why mixed-tier group teaching rarely works.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The most common second subject alongside 0610. Moles, stoichiometry and electrolysis are where Dubai students lose marks, and the mathematical demand catches out students who are comfortable with biology recall but shaky on rearranging a formula under time pressure.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Graph work, unit conversion and the long-answer explanation of a mechanism. A student who writes well in biology often scores poorly in physics for the same reason in reverse: physics answers reward compression, and biology habits produce answers that say too much and score nothing extra.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

Taken instead of three separate sciences in many Dubai schools. The biology content overlaps heavily with 0610 but is reduced in depth, so a student moving between the two syllabuses needs a map of what is kept and what is cut rather than a full reteach.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended, single award

One grade covering biology, chemistry and physics. Students who find 0610 heavy are sometimes moved onto 0653 by the school, which changes the whole revision plan and the post-16 options. Worth understanding before agreeing to a switch.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Not obviously connected to biology until the data-handling questions arrive. Percentage change, rates, magnification calculations and reading values off a graph all appear in 0610 papers, and weak number work quietly costs marks in a science exam.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0510)

Core and Extended

Relevant because 0610 long-answer marks are awarded for precise wording. A student writing in a second language can hold the biology perfectly and still miss the mark-scheme term, and a tutor who recognises that pattern treats it as a language fix, not a content fix.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology (4BI1)

Single award

The other board in regular use across Dubai. Paper structure and the practical arrangement differ from Cambridge, so a tutor must know which board the school has entered the student for. Using 0610 past papers to prepare a 4BI1 candidate wastes a term.

A Level Biology

AS and A2

The common next step. Transport, gas exchange, respiration and genetics all reappear with far more quantitative demand. Students who arrive with Extended-tier 0610 fluency spend the first term learning new material rather than repairing old material.

IB Diploma Biology

HL and SL

The alternative post-16 route in Dubai's IB schools. The internal assessment is the student's own investigation, and a tutor's role there is teaching method and giving feedback on the student's own drafts rather than supplying content.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover almost every 0610 case we are asked about in Dubai. All three run as live one-to-one video lessons; the difference is the cadence and what the evidence file is meant to show by the end.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

The standard shape for a Year 10 or early Year 11 student. One session a week moving through the syllabus in step with the school, with a short retrieval check on earlier topics at the start of each lesson. The evidence file builds slowly and the marked-paper interval is monthly rather than fortnightly.

  • Topic map updated after every session
  • Retrieval check on two earlier topics each week
  • One full past paper under timing each month
  • Session notes shared the same evening

Fortnightly paper clinic

For a student whose content knowledge is broadly sound but whose marks do not reflect it. The student sits a paper in their own time, the tutor marks it to the published mark scheme before the session, and the lesson is spent entirely on the questions that lost marks and the wording that would have gained them.

  • Paper marked and annotated before the lesson starts
  • Command-term analysis on every dropped mark
  • Rewritten model answers in the student's own words
  • Score tracked across comparable papers, not across different formats

Pre-series intensive block

Booked for the six to eight weeks before a June or November series. Two or three sessions a week, organised around the two or three topics carrying the largest measured loss rather than around a full syllabus sweep, with the practical paper treated as a separate strand from the theory papers.

  • Baseline paper scored before the block is planned
  • Paper 5 or Paper 6 preparation timetabled separately
  • Exam-timing practice at full paper length
  • A second comparable paper at the end of the block

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a 0610 home tutor in Dubai does, and what happens here instead

A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 home tutor in Dubai is, in the market's own terms, a person who travels to a villa or apartment and teaches at the kitchen table for an hour or two. That is a real service and plenty of families in the emirate use it. What you are paying for is attention and the absence of logistics on your side: no laptop setup, no screen to supervise, somebody physically present who notices when a fifteen-year-old has stopped following. For a younger child, or for a student who genuinely will not engage with a screen, that presence is worth real money.

It also carries costs that are easy to miss when you are comparing hourly rates. Travel time is priced into the hour or into the fee, and in a city where a cross-town evening run can take forty minutes each way, the tutor who accepts your booking is usually the tutor who lives nearby rather than the one who has taught your child's exact syllabus and tier. The permit position matters too: anyone charging for private lessons in the UAE needs a private tuition work permit through MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and plenty of informal arrangements do not have one.

IB Gram delivers this support as one-to-one lessons over live video, timed to Dubai evenings. IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai or in any other emirate; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The argument for accepting that is specific to 0610 rather than general. Biology at Extended tier is a precise syllabus with a published mark scheme, and the difference between a tutor who has marked that mark scheme through a full series and one who has not is larger than the difference between a screen and a chair. Removing the drive removes the geography filter from the search.

What you lose in presence, the method tries to replace with documentation. Every session produces something you can read: an annotated script, an updated topic map, a model answer written in your child's own words rather than copied from a guide. You do not have to take the tutor's word for progress, and you do not have to rely on your own reading of a teenager's mood after a lesson.

02

Online, in-home or group: what each format costs a Dubai 0610 family

Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. That is unhelpful in a city where every other education cost is quoted in dirhams, so the table below collects the published market rates we could attribute to a source, as of October 2026. None of these are IB Gram's prices. They are what the Dubai market charges, gathered so you can tell whether a quote you have been given is normal.

The pattern across the bands is consistent. Online one-to-one and in-home one-to-one overlap at the bottom, and separate at the top because travel has to be paid for by somebody. Group formats are genuinely cheaper per hour and genuinely less targeted: a class of four students at mixed tiers cannot spend forty minutes on the one topic your child is losing marks on. Tuition centres sit apart again, because a centre with premises in Dubai is a licensed business rather than an individual tutor, and the fee reflects the overhead.

Read the right-hand column before the price column. For a 0610 candidate the binding constraint is usually not money but whether the tutor has taught the tier your child is entered for. A general science tutor at AED 150 an hour who has not worked through Extended supplement content will cost you more in wasted weeks than a specialist at AED 300 who starts from a marked script. Ask any prospective tutor which paper numbers your child will sit and what the practical component is worth. If the answer is vague, the rate is irrelevant.

A note on context. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Tutoring is the part of the education budget that does move, so it is worth planning a year of support deliberately rather than buying it in panic blocks in February.

The six-week evidence file for a 0610 student

This is the part of the method that answers the question a parent actually has, which is not what happened in the lesson but whether it worked. The answer is a short stack of documents produced on a fixed schedule, all of it comparable with itself. A score only means something next to another score from the same paper format under the same timing, so the file is built around two comparable papers with the diagnostic work in between.

Week one is the baseline, and it is deliberately uncomfortable. The student sits a released past paper at full length under exam conditions and it is marked strictly to the published mark scheme, question by question, with marks attributed to topics rather than to a general impression. The number is usually lower than the school mock, because school mocks are frequently shortened or marked generously. That is the point: the baseline exists to be beaten by a second measurement, not to reassure anybody in week one.

Weeks two to four are where the work is. The topic map splits the twenty-one syllabus sections into secure, shaky and unseen, which separates the two problems that look identical in a mock result: content the school has not taught yet and content taught but not retained. The command-term work follows, because a substantial share of lost marks in Biology are lost on questions the student could answer. Then the practical paper, which is 20% of the grade and the component almost nobody revises for in a Dubai household.

Week six repeats the measurement. Same paper format, same timing, different series, same mark scheme. The movement between those two numbers is the only honest claim anybody can make about tutoring, and it belongs to your child rather than to us. If it has not moved, that is information too, and the right response is to change the plan rather than to add hours.

Marking a 0610 theory answer the way the mark scheme marks it

  • Count the marks before writing the answer, then plan that many separate points
  • Describe answers state what happens; explain answers state why
  • Comparison questions need both sides in the same sentence
  • Repeating one point in three forms still scores once

The single most transferable thing a tutor can teach a 0610 candidate is how the marks are awarded. Cambridge theory papers award marks against specified points, and an answer that contains the biology but not the point does not score. A student who writes four lines of accurate material about diffusion and never uses the words concentration gradient has written something true and scored nothing. Once a student has seen that happen to their own script three or four times, the habit changes faster than any amount of content revision would move it.

Command terms are where this lives. State, describe and explain are not stylistic preferences; they set the number and type of points required. Describe asks what happens, explain asks why it happens, and a describe-shaped answer to an explain question is the commonest two-mark loss in the paper. Compare requires both sides of the comparison in the same sentence, and suggest invites application of principles to an unfamiliar context rather than recall. These distinctions are published in the syllabus and almost never practised deliberately.

The second pattern is quantity. Dubai students writing in a second language often over-write, producing long answers that repeat one point in three forms. The mark scheme awards the point once. A tutor's job here is not to simplify the biology but to teach compression: identify the number of marks, plan that number of distinct points, write them separately. Students usually find this is the easiest change they make all year, and it shows up in the next marked script rather than in June.

None of this works without the real mark scheme. We reference the published Cambridge documents and link to them on the Cambridge International website rather than reproducing them, because those materials are the board's copyright. A tutor who offers you a folder of mark schemes and subject guides as downloads is selling you something they do not have the right to distribute, which tells you something about the rest of their practice.

05

Core or Extended: the decision that sets the grade ceiling

Many Dubai parents discover the tier system late, often during the Year 11 mock season, and some discover it after entries have closed. Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is tiered: Core candidates sit one set of papers and Extended candidates sit another, with Extended carrying supplement content on top of the core material. The grades available differ, and that is the part that matters to a family planning for A Level or an IB Diploma science.

The school decides the entry, not the tutor and usually not the parent. It is decided on the evidence the school has, which is classroom performance and mock results, and it is decided before the final entry deadline, which falls months before the paper. The practical consequence is that the window for influencing the decision is Year 10 and the first term of Year 11, not March. If your child needs a grade above a C for a sixth-form place, the conversation with the head of science needs to happen while the entry is still open.

What a tutor can do is make the Extended tier survivable. Extended supplement content is not harder in kind so much as denser, and it tends to concentrate in specific places: more detail in transport and gas exchange, more genetics, more quantitative treatment of data. Roughly a third of session time for an Extended candidate goes to material a Core candidate will never meet, so a tutor who teaches both tiers from the same plan is short-changing one of them.

If the entry is already Core and the ambition is a sixth-form science place, say so in the trial lesson. There is an honest conversation to be had about what a Core-tier grade means for A Level admission in Dubai, and it is better had in October than in August. Sometimes the answer is to work towards a strong Core grade and plan a bridging term; sometimes the answer is to ask the school to review the entry while that is still possible.

06

The practical component: 20% of the grade, and the least revised part of 0610

Every 0610 candidate sits a practical component worth a fifth of the grade, and the school chooses between a practical test carried out under supervision and a written alternative-to-practical paper. Most Dubai students we work with are entered for the written alternative, and almost none of them have practised it outside a classroom lesson. It is the cheapest grade improvement available in the whole course, because the skills it tests are a short, closed list that can be taught in three or four sessions.

What it actually assesses is experimental method rather than biology recall. Identifying the independent, dependent and controlled variables in somebody else's experiment. Reading a measurement from a diagram of a scale. Drawing a results table with units in the headings rather than in the cells. Plotting a graph with sensible axes and a line that answers the question. Spotting the anomalous result and saying what should be done about it. Describing an improvement to a method that would actually reduce error rather than just repeating the experiment.

Biological drawing deserves separate mention because it is the one skill students assume cannot be revised. It can. Marks go for clean continuous lines without shading, correct proportion, labels with straight ruled lines that touch the structure, and a magnification calculation done with consistent units. Every one of those is a rule, and rules can be practised over video with a shared screen as easily as in a laboratory, because the student is drawing from a provided image in the exam too.

The practical strand is timetabled separately in a pre-series block for exactly this reason. Mixing it into theory revision means it gets dropped whenever theory feels more urgent, which is every week. One session in four, protected, is usually enough to move this component substantially before a June or November series.

07

Entries, series and the dates a Dubai family cannot control

Cambridge International runs its IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Most Dubai British-curriculum schools enter Year 11 for the June series. The dates that matter to a tutoring plan are not the exam dates, which the school will tell you, but the administrative deadlines sitting months earlier, which the school often does not.

The two series Cambridge runs for Dubai candidates make the pattern concrete. There is a June series and a November series, and the order of events inside each one is identical: the final entry closes, forecast grades are submitted, the papers sit inside their window, results reach the centre on Cambridge International Direct a few weeks later and certificates follow after that. Cambridge publishes a separate timetable for each of its six administrative zones and says plainly that using the wrong version is the centre's risk, so the day Paper 4 falls for a school in Dubai is not a date to read off a tutoring page. What is reliable is the gap. The final entry closes months before the first paper, not weeks, and it is the entry that fixes whether a candidate sits Core or Extended. Whatever series your child is sitting, the tier and subject decisions are locked long before revision reaches its peak.

One further Cambridge rule catches families out and is worth knowing even though the school handles it. Every exam centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after working from the wrong one. If you are planning travel around the exam period, confirm the dates from your school's own timetable rather than from a generic one found online.

If your child is entered with Pearson Edexcel rather than Cambridge, the calendar differs. Pearson International GCSE examinations are available in May/June and November each year; the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

Permits, honesty and the two questions worth asking any Dubai tutor

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no amount can honestly be quoted. The official route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days.

The second question is about academic honesty, and it separates tutors from the small number of operators in this market selling something else. A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own work. For IGCSE Biology that means coaching method on a practical write-up, explaining what a results analysis needs to contain, and marking a draft the student produced. It does not mean supplying text for a student to submit as their own, and any operator offering that is handing your child a malpractice risk in exchange for a fee.

A third thing worth checking, since it is where competitor pages are weakest, is whether the tutor claims credentials nobody holds. IB Gram is an independent matching platform. It is not approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge International or Pearson, it holds no permit for premises in the UAE, and it is not affiliated with any named school. Those bodies are described on this page because understanding them helps you, not because any of them endorses us.

Taken together these three checks - permit, honesty boundary, claimed credentials - filter out most of what is wrong with this market in about four minutes of conversation. They work equally well on an in-home tutor found through a community group and on an online platform found through a search result, including this one.

Dubai is a commuting city, and for a 0610 family the practical question is what time a session can realistically start. These are the communities we hear from most for IGCSE science, with what the school run and the geography actually do to an evening slot.

High-rise apartments with families spread across several British-curriculum schools. Bus journeys home can run past 16:00, and parking access for a visiting tutor is genuinely difficult, which is why the market rate for an in-home science session here sits at the upper end.

Jumeirah Village Circle

A large, fast-growing community with a mix of villas and apartments and few schools inside it. Most secondary students travel out of JVC by bus, so a 17:00 start is realistic and a 16:00 start usually is not.

Arabian Ranches

Villa community built around its own school provision, so journeys home are short and a 16:30 Biology session is workable. Families here often run two or three subjects in the same week, which makes sequencing by exam date more important than adding hours.

Mirdif

Established family area with a dense cluster of British and Indian curriculum schools. Several run IGCSE sciences across mixed ability sets, so the Core and Extended tier question comes up here more often than almost anywhere else in the emirate.

Al Barsha

Central, well served by schools, and the one place where an in-home tutor's travel cost is lowest. That also makes it the area where the local tutoring pool is most general: plenty of science tutors, fewer who have taught a full 0610 series at Extended tier.

Dubai Hills Estate

Newer villa community with recently opened school capacity. Year 11 cohorts here are small, which means a student with a specific weakness in genetics or osmosis may be the only one in their set who needs it fixed, and group revision classes will not reach it.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

A long way east of the Marina corridor, which historically limited the choice of in-home tutors willing to make the drive. Online delivery removes that constraint entirely, and evening sessions here are among the easiest to schedule.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Western Dubai: Marina, Barsha and the Al Khail corridor

The densest concentration of British-curriculum secondary provision in the emirate, all inspected by KHDA on its six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Students we support in this corridor sit IGCSE sciences across both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel entries, so the first question in a trial lesson is always which board and which tier.

  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dubai British School Emirates Hills

Eastern and central Dubai: Mirdif, Garhoud and Silicon Oasis

A wider mix of curricula and a wider ability range in the same year groups, which is where Core and Extended entries most often sit side by side. Students we support here frequently discover in Year 11 that the tier they are entered for caps the grade they are working towards.

  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Star International School Mirdif
  • GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis
  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • The English College

Schools are named here only as market context for families comparing provision; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked paper

A photograph of the most recent Biology mock or class test, with the marks visible, tells us more in two minutes than a description of the problem does in twenty. If there is a report comment, send that as well. If there is nothing recent, say so and we will start from a baseline paper instead.

  2. 02

Confirm board, tier and practical paper

Cambridge 0610 or Pearson 4BI1. Core or Extended entry. Practical test or written alternative. Three facts, all held by the school, and all three change what the first four sessions contain. If you do not know them, the head of science will, and it is a reasonable question to ask by email.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson

A full-length one-to-one session over live video with a tutor who teaches your child's tier, at no cost and with no card details taken. The tutor spends part of it diagnosing rather than teaching, and you receive a written note afterwards saying what they found and what they would do first.

  4. 04

Baseline, then a plan with dates

A past paper under exam timing, marked strictly to the published mark scheme, with marks attributed to syllabus topics. From that comes a plan with dates on it: which topics, in which order, with the practical strand timetabled separately and the second comparable paper scheduled six weeks out.

  5. 05

Fortnightly evidence, and a change if it is not moving

Marked scripts and an updated topic map, sent to you rather than described to you. If the second comparable paper has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does. Tutoring that is not working is not improved by buying more of it, and the evidence file exists so that neither of us has to guess.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The tier is the first question, not an afterthought

Extended supplement content is a specific body of material, not a vague extra difficulty. A tutor who has taught both tiers knows which third of the syllabus an Extended candidate needs that a Core candidate does not, and plans the sessions accordingly rather than teaching one lesson and hoping it covers both.

Marked to the published mark scheme, not by impression

Encouraging marking produces a comfortable lesson and a surprise in August. Scripts are marked against the board's own published points, which means the score is sometimes lower than the school's and always comparable with the next one. You see the annotations, so you can check the marking yourself.

The practical component gets protected time

A fifth of the grade sits in a component most households never revise. It is a closed list of teachable skills - variables, tables, graphs, anomalies, improvements, biological drawing - and it is timetabled as its own strand so it does not get displaced every time a theory topic feels more urgent.

Online removes the geography filter

An in-home booking in Dubai is limited to tutors who can reach your community at the hour you need. Live video lessons mean the search is for someone who has taught your child's syllabus and tier through a full series, which is a much smaller group than the set of science tutors living nearby.

No claimed approvals and no promised grades

IB Gram holds no regulator or examination-board accreditation and does not publish grade guarantees, star ratings or statistics it cannot evidence. What is published here is attributed: market rates to their sources, regulations to the government pages that state them, exam-board dates to the board's own documents.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Can a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 home tutor in Dubai actually come to our villa?+

Tutors who work in-home do exist across Dubai and the market rate including travel runs roughly AED 180-500 an hour, according to published figures from Bestimate and independent home tutors. IB Gram does not provide that format anywhere in the UAE. Our lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Dubai evenings, and home visits are a service we run only in India. The reason we make that trade on a 0610 page is specific: removing the drive means the tutor can be someone who has taught your child's exact tier and practical paper through a full exam series, rather than whoever is available within a short drive of your community.

What does a 0610 Biology tutor cost per hour in Dubai in 2026?+

Published market rates in Dubai, as of October 2026, run roughly AED 150-300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor online and AED 200-450 or more for an exam specialist. Unitors advertises IGCSE support from AED 150, TutorChase quotes around AED 270, and Bestimate's rate table puts specialist tutoring at AED 200-450 and above. Budget online options start much lower, from around AED 45 with EdFlik and from AED 33 with Tutopiya. Those are the market's numbers rather than ours. For IB Gram's own arrangement, start with the free trial lesson and the consultation that follows it.

Which 0610 papers will my child sit at the Extended tier?+

An Extended candidate sits three components: the Extended multiple-choice paper, the Extended theory paper that includes supplement content, and one practical component, which is either the practical test or the written alternative to practical depending on what the school has chosen. The weightings are 30% for multiple choice, 50% for theory and 20% for the practical component. Half the grade therefore sits in a single paper, which is why theory technique is usually the first thing a tutor works on. Confirm the exact paper numbers on your child's entry with the school, because the practical choice is made at centre level.

How do I find out whether my child is entered for the practical test or the written alternative?+

Ask the head of science or the exams officer directly; it is a centre-level decision and they hold the entry details. It matters because the two components are prepared quite differently. The practical test is carried out under supervision with apparatus, while the written alternative asks the candidate to analyse somebody else's experiment on paper: identifying variables, completing results tables, plotting graphs, spotting anomalies and suggesting method improvements. Most Dubai students we support are entered for the written alternative, and it is the component least likely to have been practised at home, which makes it the quickest available improvement.

My son scored 42% in his Year 11 Biology mock - is that recoverable before the June series?+

Usually, yes, but only once you know what the 42% is made of. A mark in the low forties can come from two or three unlearnt topics, from command-term errors spread thinly across the whole paper, from running out of time, or from an unprepared practical component, and the remedies for those are completely different. The first thing worth doing is a full past paper marked strictly to the published mark scheme with marks attributed to syllabus topics. From a January mock to a June series is roughly eighteen teaching weeks, which is enough to rebuild two or three topics properly and fix technique across all three papers.

How many of the twenty-one 0610 topics has a Dubai school usually finished by February of Year 11?+

It varies more than parents expect, because Dubai schools run the course over two or three years depending on when they start it. Some schools complete all twenty-one topics by the winter mock and spend the spring on revision; others are still teaching inheritance, variation and selection, or biotechnology and genetic modification in February. This is the single most useful thing to establish before planning support, because unlearnt content and forgotten content look identical in a mock percentage and need opposite responses. The school's scheme of work will tell you, and the topic map we build in week two records it.

Can my daughter move from Core to Extended Biology partway through Year 11?+

Sometimes, and it depends entirely on the school and on how close the final entry deadline is. The entry is made by the centre, based on classroom evidence and mock performance, and once the deadline passes it is fixed for that series. Cambridge entry deadlines sit months before the papers in both series a Dubai candidate can sit: an entry for the June papers is submitted in the spring, and an entry for the November papers is submitted over the summer. The exact day comes from the centre, on the statement of entry, because it shifts year to year and differs by administrative zone. If a grade above a C matters for a sixth-form place, raise it with the head of science while the entry is still open, and bring marked evidence rather than an opinion.

Do you send marked 0610 scripts to parents so we can see the mark scheme ourselves?+

Yes, and that is the point of the method rather than an added extra. Each marked paper comes back with the marks attributed question by question and annotations showing which mark-scheme point was awarded or missed. You can read it against the board's own published mark scheme, which is available on the Cambridge International website. We link to those documents rather than redistributing them, because they are Cambridge's copyright. If a provider offers you a download folder of mark schemes and subject guides, they do not have the right to hand those out.

Is a biological drawing question really worth revising for 0610?+

Yes, because the marks go for rules rather than for artistic ability. Examiners credit clean continuous lines with no shading, correct proportion between structures, labels on straight ruled lines that actually touch what they point at, and a magnification calculation carried out with consistent units. Students assume drawing is a talent and therefore skip it, which leaves marks on the table in a component already worth a fifth of the grade. It is also perfectly teachable over a shared screen, because in the exam the candidate is drawing from a provided image rather than from a specimen.

Does a Biology tutor working with my child in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Anyone offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule has been published. The official application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, with a stated two working day completion time.

How does IGCSE Biology count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. Biology can sit inside that count of five like any other accredited subject. Equivalency is a Ministry process that IB Gram neither performs nor influences, so verify the current requirements through the Ministry's own channel before relying on them.

Can a tutor help with a practical write-up without breaking Cambridge rules?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can teach experimental method, explain what a results analysis has to contain, show worked examples from released past questions, and give written feedback on a draft the student produced themselves. What a tutor must never do is supply text for a student to submit as their own. That boundary protects your child: work that is not their own is a malpractice matter with the examination board, and the consequences fall on the candidate rather than on whoever was paid. Any operator offering completed work is selling a risk.

What time do your Dubai 0610 sessions run, given school finishes in the afternoon?+

Sessions are scheduled against Gulf Standard Time rather than a tutor's home timezone, and the common slots are between 16:30 and 21:00 on weekdays with weekend mornings also available. The realistic start time depends on your community: a family in Arabian Ranches whose child walks home can begin at 16:30, while a Jumeirah Village Circle family waiting on a school bus is usually better at 17:00 or later. Ramadan timings shift to post-iftar slots where families prefer that, and session times can be moved for the exam period.

What happens if the first 0610 tutor we try is not the right fit?+

You say so and we change the match, without an argument about it. The free trial lesson exists partly to catch this before any money changes hands, but fit sometimes fails in week three rather than week one, and a fifteen-year-old who has stopped talking in sessions is not going to improve by persisting. There is no grade guarantee attached to any of this and no refund promise tied to an outcome, because neither would be honest. What is on offer is a documented plan, evidence you can read, and a different tutor if the evidence says the plan is not working.

Start with the marked paper, not with the hourly rate

If you take one thing from this page, take the order of operations. Find out which board, which tier and which practical component your child is entered for. Get a recent paper marked strictly against the published mark scheme, with the lost marks attributed to syllabus topics. Only then decide how many hours you are buying and from whom. A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 home tutor in Dubai is what parents search for, and the service that answers the search here is one-to-one tuition over live video with the evidence sent to you every fortnight. The trial lesson costs nothing and no card details are taken for it.
