IB MYP Tutor in Ajman

An IB MYP tutor in Ajman is bought for a different reason than a Diploma tutor. There is no external paper to revise for, no grade boundary published by the IB for a unit task, and nothing a parent can compare against. What you are paying for is criterion literacy: the ability to read a task sheet, see which of the four criteria carries the marks, and write to it. This page puts the AED figures on the table first, then explains exactly what changes them for a family in Ajman.

  • Market AED bands published below, each traced to its source
  • Live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time
  • Feedback written against criterion letters and 0-8 bands

IB & IGCSE in Ajman

What you are actually paying for in the middle years

Middle Years tuition is the hardest spend in the UAE market to judge, because the feedback loop is slow and opaque. A Diploma parent sees papers, weightings and a session in May. An IGCSE parent sees a syllabus code and a past paper archive. An MYP parent sees a report with numbers out of eight against letters, a comment about conceptual understanding, and no external benchmark anywhere. Many Ajman families respond by buying weekly hours in every subject and hoping, which is the most expensive version of the decision available to them.

The cheaper and more effective version starts with the structure. Each MYP subject is assessed against four published criteria, each marked from zero to eight, and those marks convert into a one to seven grade using boundaries the school applies. A student losing marks in criterion D of Sciences and a student losing marks in criterion A are two different problems with two different remedies, and no amount of general subject tuition addresses either until someone has read the actual descriptor.

Price follows from that diagnosis rather than from the subject name. Published market figures for middle-years support in this country run from about AED 45 an hour at the budget end to AED 450 or more for specialist work, and the honest answer to where a given family lands is that it depends on whether the gap is coverage, skill or writing discipline. Coverage gaps are the cheapest to fix. Writing discipline against criteria takes longer and costs more, and nobody in this market tells you which one you have before you have paid for a term.

Ajman adds a local layer. Few families here are inside an IB continuum school in the emirate itself, so most MYP students travel into Sharjah or Dubai, or sit a national curriculum while a parent researches an eventual move to the IB. That means two of the most common enquiries we take from Al Nuaimiya, Al Mowaihat and Al Yasmeen are not about a subject at all: they are about whether a child entering the MYP late can catch up, and whether MYP marks will matter to anything later.

This page answers the money question in the open, with every figure attributed to the provider that published it, and then answers the questions behind it: what one criterion actually takes to fix, when the Personal Project needs paid help and when it does not, how the jump into the Diploma changes the bill in Year 12, and when the right advice is to spend nothing. Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE, and that limit is stated here rather than discovered later.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes matter to an Ajman family thinking about the middle years: the one before, the one in question, and the one it feeds. The money question looks different in each, because what is being assessed and who marks it changes completely between them.

PYPAges 3-12 · Foundation to Year 6

IB Primary Years Programme

An inquiry-led primary framework with no external assessment and no grades in the familiar sense. Reporting is against learning outcomes and the exhibition in the final year. Tuition at this stage is almost always about a specific literacy or numeracy gap rather than about the framework, and the market rate sits at the lower end accordingly.

Few Ajman schools run the PYP, so most families who ask about it are considering a move into an IB school in Sharjah or Dubai. The useful spend at this age is a short diagnostic block on reading fluency or number facts, not a standing weekly commitment, and we say that even though it is the smaller sale.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 6-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups: language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical and health education, and design. Each is assessed against four criteria marked from zero to eight, giving a maximum of thirty-two, which the school converts to a one to seven grade. The Personal Project in the final year is assessed against its own three criteria. Schools may enter students for on-screen eAssessment and ePortfolios leading to the MYP certificate.

In Ajman the practical issue is that a child's MYP marks are generated entirely inside one school, usually across the Sharjah or Dubai border, with no external dataset to compare against. That makes the criterion descriptor the only reliable yardstick a parent has, and makes a tutor who ignores it close to useless regardless of subject knowledge.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus three core components, assessed through internal work marked at school and external papers sat in one session. This is where external marking appears for the first time for an MYP student, and where the cost of tuition in this market roughly doubles because the specialist pool narrows to subject and level.

The Year 11 to Year 12 transition is the point at which Ajman families most often start paying real money, and the size of that bill is partly decided three years earlier. A student who left the MYP able to write to a criterion arrives in the Diploma needing content teaching; one who did not arrives needing both.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The MYP subjects below are described by which criterion usually costs the marks, because that is what a quote should be built around. A tutor who cannot tell you which criterion your child is losing marks in is quoting for hours rather than for a repair.

MYP Mathematics

Standard and Extended

Criterion A knowledge questions are rarely the problem. Marks go in criterion C, communication, where correct answers appear without the reasoning or notation that earns the band, and in criterion D, where a real-life application question is answered mathematically but never interpreted in context.

MYP Sciences

Integrated and by discipline

The investigation criteria carry the risk. Hypotheses written without a scientific reason, method sections that do not control a named variable, and conclusions that restate the data instead of evaluating the method are the three recurring losses, and all three are fixable in a handful of sessions.

MYP Language and Literature

Phases by school

Analysis of writer's choices is the examined skill, not plot knowledge. Essays that summarise competently sit in the middle bands indefinitely until the student learns to anchor each paragraph to a technique and its effect, which is a writing habit rather than a content gap.

MYP Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6

Assessed across listening, reading, speaking and writing, with the phase rather than the year group setting the expectation. Students placed in a phase above their actual production level lose marks on accuracy for a year before anyone notices the placement was the issue.

MYP Individuals and Societies

Years 1-5

Source work and the investigation criteria decide the grade. Students who can describe a historical or geographical case well still lose marks when a question asks for evaluation of a source's origin, purpose and limitations and they offer content instead.

MYP Design

Years 1-5

The design cycle is the assessment, and the written documentation carries most of the marks rather than the finished product. Students who build something good and document it thinly score lower than students whose outcome is modest and whose inquiry and evaluation are thorough.

MYP Arts

Visual and performing

The process journal is assessed alongside the work. Marks are lost where developmental thinking was never recorded, which means the remedy is a documentation habit introduced early rather than extra practical tuition late.

MYP Interdisciplinary units

All years

Marked against their own criteria and frequently the lowest marks on an MYP report, because students treat them as two subjects joined rather than as a single integrated question. Explicit coaching on synthesis fixes this faster than subject revision does.

MYP Personal Project

Final MYP year

Assessed against three criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each marked from zero to eight. The product is not what is marked. Students who choose an ambitious goal and keep no process evidence lose marks that a modest, well-documented project would have earned.

Arabic as a first or additional language

MYP phases

Runs alongside the MYP in UAE private schools under federal requirements for Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies. The written register is the usual gap for students who speak Arabic at home but have only been taught formal writing conventions at school.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy middle-years support, listed from cheapest to most expensive per outcome rather than per hour. The mistake most families make is buying the most frequent option when the diagnosis called for the shortest one.

A single-criterion repair block

Four to six sessions aimed at one named criterion in one subject, usually the investigation or communication criterion where the report shows a persistent low band. Cheapest useful unit of work in the middle years, and often the only thing needed for a student whose subject knowledge is sound.

  • Priced as a defined block, not an open monthly commitment
  • Ends with a re-marked task against the same criterion
  • Suits a student scoring well in criterion A and poorly in C or D
  • Usually the lowest-cost option that produces a visible change

Weekly one-to-one in one subject

A standing sixty-minute slot in a subject where the gap is genuine content coverage, typically after a curriculum change, a late entry into the MYP or a long absence. The appropriate choice when a report shows low bands across all four criteria rather than one.

  • Same evening slot each week, Gulf Standard Time
  • Content taught in sequence, with criterion work attached to each unit
  • Reviewed at eight weeks against the opening diagnostic
  • Scales badly across subjects, so one subject at a time by preference

Personal Project process coaching

A small number of timed sessions across the final MYP year, placed at the planning, mid-process and reflection stages. The tutor questions the plan, teaches the documentation habits and reads what exists. The student sets the goal, does the work and keeps the process journal.

  • Three to six sessions placed at the school's own milestones
  • Focused on planning and reflection criteria rather than the product
  • No part of the assessed documentation is supplied by the tutor
  • Often replaces a term of weekly tuition at a fraction of the cost

01

Why an MYP report resists being priced

  • Four criterion bands per subject locate a problem more precisely than a percentage
  • The band descriptor, not the number, is what a plan should be built from
  • Low in one criterion and high in another is a short repair, not a year of tuition
  • MYP marks are never seen externally; readiness for what follows is the real test

A parent holding an MYP report has less information to act on than a parent holding an IGCSE mock result, and more than they realise. Less, because there is no percentage, no external cohort and no mark scheme in the public domain for a school's unit task. More, because the numbers are already diagnostic: four criteria per subject, each from zero to eight, which locates the problem far more precisely than a single aggregate ever could.

The reason families struggle to convert that into a decision is that schools report the band and not the descriptor. A five in criterion C of Mathematics is meaningless until you read what the band five descriptor asks for, and schools vary in how prominently they publish it. The first job in any honest quote is therefore to read the descriptors alongside the report, which takes one conversation and no money.

That one conversation routinely changes the size of the purchase. A student with sixes and sevens in criterion A and threes in criterion D does not need a subject tutor for a year; they need to learn to write an interpretation sentence after every calculation, which is a handful of sessions. A student with threes across all four criteria in Sciences has a genuine coverage gap and a different bill. Both sets of parents arrive asking the same question about hourly rates.

There is a second reason the middle years are hard to price, which is that the marks do not follow the student anywhere external. Nothing in an MYP report is seen by a university. Its value is entirely in what it predicts about readiness for the Diploma or for IGCSE, which means tuition at this stage should be judged on whether it builds a habit that survives into Year 12, not on whether a band moved from four to five this term.

02

What MYP tutoring costs in Ajman, in AED, with sources

Here is the market, as published rather than as estimated. The budget end of UAE online tuition is populated by platforms quoting from AED 33 to 52 and from AED 45 to 65 an hour for middle-school support. Qualified subject tutors online sit roughly between AED 150 and AED 300, with one provider publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist work including coursework and project supervision runs from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with one named-tutor provider publishing AED 650.

In-home visits are a separate band because travel is inside the price. Published in-home figures for this market run from about AED 180 to AED 350, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Monthly package rates seen include roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits, which is the clearest single illustration of what travel costs a family.

None of those numbers is an IB Gram price list, and this page deliberately avoids inventing one. Our own figure follows the free trial lesson, because a four-session criterion repair and a year of weekly subject teaching are not the same purchase and quoting a single hourly rate for both would be misleading. What the table below does is let an Ajman parent see what a given shape of commitment costs at market rates before speaking to anybody.

One piece of context worth holding alongside these numbers: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's economic incentives package. For families whose school fees are flat, tuition spend becomes the variable line in the education budget, which is exactly why it deserves to be bought in defined blocks with an end point rather than as a rolling monthly charge nobody reviews.

03

The six things that move an MYP quote up or down

  • Specialist versus generalist is the single largest factor in the rate
  • Scope measured in criteria, not in subjects, predicts the real cost
  • Fortnightly ninety-minute slots often beat weekly hours on cost per outcome
  • Booking a month before the report cycle buys choice of tutor and slot
  • Sibling bookings only save money where the subjects genuinely overlap

Rate cards in this market hide the variables, so here they are in the open. The first and largest is whether the work needs a subject specialist or a capable generalist. Criterion writing discipline in Individuals and Societies can be taught by a strong humanities teacher; MYP Extended Mathematics heading into Analysis and Approaches cannot be taught well by a generalist, and the price difference between the two is most of the span in the table above.

The second is the number of criteria in scope. One criterion in one subject is a short, cheap, measurable job. Four criteria across three subjects is effectively a part-time teaching programme and should be priced and planned as one. The third is session length and frequency: a ninety-minute fortnightly slot often costs less per month than a weekly hour and produces more marked work, particularly for students from Year 9 upwards who can work independently between sessions.

Fourth is timing in the school year. Demand concentrates around report cycles and the final MYP year, and families booking in the week a report lands have less choice of tutor and slot than families booking a month earlier. Fifth is the sibling question, which matters in Ajman specifically because multi-child enquiries are common here; two children in one household sharing a tutor and a slot is cheaper per child than two separate arrangements, though only where the subjects align.

Sixth, and least discussed, is format. Online one-to-one sits below in-home at every level in the published figures, and the gap is not a quality discount. It is the travel that is no longer being paid for. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE at all, since home visits are a service we run only in India, so for Ajman families the comparison is between our online delivery and someone else's in-home rate rather than between two of our own products.

04

The Personal Project: where the money is usually wasted

  • Three criteria, each 0-8: planning, applying skills, reflecting
  • The product is evidence; the documentation is what carries the marks
  • Three to six sessions at the school's milestones beats a term of weekly hours
  • The student owns the goal, the journal and every sentence of the report

The final MYP year brings the Personal Project, and with it a predictable pattern of spending badly. Families buy weekly sessions for months, because the project feels large, and most of those hours go on the product rather than on what is assessed. The project is marked against three criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each from zero to eight. The thing the student makes is evidence, not the mark.

Knowing that changes the shape of useful support entirely. What helps is three to six sessions placed at the school's own milestones: one when the goal and success criteria are being set, because an over-ambitious goal with no measurable criteria is the most common structural failure; one in the middle, to check that process evidence is being recorded as the work happens rather than reconstructed afterwards; and one near the end, on reflection, which is the criterion students most often treat as a summary.

There is a hard line around this work and it needs stating plainly. The student chooses the goal, carries out the project, keeps the process journal and writes every word of the report. A tutor teaches research and documentation skills, asks questions about what exists, and points at a section that is describing rather than evaluating. A tutor does not supply text, set the goal or build the product. Providers in this market sell finished assessed work; buying it puts the student's own qualification at risk and we refuse the work outright.

The money argument is worth stating alongside the integrity one. Six well-placed sessions at specialist market rates cost less than a term of weekly tuition and address the criteria that are actually marked. Several Ajman families arrive in the final MYP year having already spent on a standing weekly commitment that never once looked at the planning criterion, which is the most avoidable overspend in the middle years.

05

From the MYP into the Diploma: the gap that creates the Year 12 bill

The cost of Diploma tuition is partly set three years earlier, and families who understand that spend differently in the middle years. The jump is not mainly about content. It is about external marking appearing for the first time, about papers with fixed command terms and mark allocations, and about internal work that is moderated outside the school. A student who has never written to a published descriptor meets all of that at once in Year 12.

The subject-by-subject gaps are predictable enough to plan around. MYP Extended Mathematics into Analysis and Approaches needs algebraic fluency and proof notation that MYP criterion C never really demanded. MYP Sciences into any Diploma science needs uncertainty treatment and formal evaluation language. MYP Language and Literature into the Diploma equivalent needs close textual analysis at a volume the MYP does not require. Each of those is a few weeks of focused work in Year 11, or a term of expensive remediation in Year 12.

That is the arbitrage available to an Ajman family, and it is a real one. Specialist Diploma tuition sits at the top of the published bands, from roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above per hour. Middle-years work sits lower. Closing a known transition gap at middle-years rates before the Diploma starts is cheaper than closing the same gap at Diploma rates in the middle of a coursework deadline, and the student arrives in Year 12 with the writing habit already formed.

The transition table below sets out where the gap usually sits for the subjects Ajman students most often carry forward. It is deliberately specific about weeks, because vague advice to prepare early is what families get everywhere else and it does not help anyone decide what to book.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the MYP

  • Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies run alongside the MYP in UAE private schools
  • Dubai schools must separate Arab and non-Arab classes in the named subjects
  • Instructional time is built on forty-minute units, with a twenty-five minute floor advised
  • Additional or alternative content for these subjects needs prior Ministry permission

Every UAE private school teaches the mandatory national subjects regardless of which international curriculum it is licensed for. The federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. For an MYP student in Ajman, or in a Sharjah or Dubai school, those subjects run alongside the eight MYP groups and take real timetable space.

In Dubai the detail is published in unusual depth, and it is worth knowing even for an Ajman resident whose child attends school across the border. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

The language-of-instruction rules follow from that. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic is the primary language for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language applies for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies. Instructional time is calculated on a forty-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and it is advised that any mandatory subject lesson runs at least twenty-five minutes.

Two practical consequences for a tutoring decision. First, teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic in Dubai schools are required to hold the relevant KHDA approval to teach those subjects, which is a checkable credential question to ask the school rather than a tutor. Second, for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry is prohibited, so support in these subjects has to work from the school's own material rather than from an alternative programme bought elsewhere.

07

Who regulates the school setting your child's task sheets

  • Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah private schools: federal Ministry of Education
  • Dubai: KHDA · Abu Dhabi and Al Ain: ADEK · Sharjah: SPEA · Ras Al Khaimah: Department of Knowledge
  • Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah authorities approve fees, curricula and assessment methods
  • No tutoring platform holds regulator endorsement; a Dubai centre permit is a separate thing

An MYP mark is produced by a school, so the authority overseeing that school is part of the picture. Private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. Dubai sits under the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which oversees the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit under the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools there.

Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same in its own. Both of those authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so their remit extends well beyond inspection. For an Ajman family whose child attends school in Sharjah, that is the body whose decisions shape the school calendar and the fee notice, not the Ministry covering their home address.

This matters to a tutoring plan in one specific way. Inspection reports and curriculum approvals are published by the authority that regulates the school, so a parent looking for the evidence behind a school's claims needs to look at the right register. Ajman families routinely search KHDA for a school that is not in Dubai, find nothing and conclude the information does not exist.

It also matters for what any tutoring provider may claim. No tutoring platform, including this one, is approved, accredited or licensed by KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the Sharjah authority or the IB. A tuition operation with premises and staff in Dubai requires an educational services permit for a training institute from KHDA, which is a specific thing issued to institutes with premises. Any provider implying regulator endorsement without holding that permit is making a claim a parent can and should test.

08

When the honest advice is to spend nothing

  • Mid-band marks in a disliked subject are usually a preference, not a gap
  • Low communication marks across every subject are one habit, not six problems
  • A new commitment six weeks before a report cannot produce evidence in time
  • Where no specialist is free, we say so instead of substituting a generalist

Some middle-years enquiries should not end in a booking, and saying so is part of being worth hiring. A student scoring fives and sixes across all four criteria in a subject they dislike is not failing; they are a normal thirteen-year-old with a preference. Adding a weekly hour to that subject buys compliance, not learning, and the mark often does not move because there was no gap to close.

A second case is the student whose reports show low bands in criterion C across every subject at once. That is almost never six subject problems. It is a written-communication habit, and it is better addressed by one subject's tutor teaching the habit transferably, or by the school's own support, than by buying six separate tutors. Families who buy by subject in this situation spend several times what the repair costs.

A third case is timing. Six weeks before a major school report, a new weekly commitment in three subjects will not produce evidence of anything before the report lands, and the family will judge the spend against a deadline it was never going to meet. The better sequence is a diagnostic conversation now, one block starting after the report, and a decision based on the next cycle.

The fourth and bluntest case is availability. For a specific MYP phase in a minority language, or for a subject-and-year combination that is unusual, there may be no suitable specialist free in the window a family wants. We will say that rather than place a generalist, because a generalist in a specialist seat is how families end up paying twice. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is a reason to ask every provider about theirs.

Where we tutor

Ajman districts, and what the spend looks like in each

What varies between Ajman districts is not the price per hour but the shape of the commitment: how many children are involved, how late a session has to start, and whether the school that sets the task sheets is in this emirate at all.

Al Nuaimiya

Apartment-dense and close to the Sharjah line, with large day schools nearby. Enquiries from here are often for two children at once, so the comparison worth running is two short blocks against one standing weekly commitment.

Al Mowaihat

Villa sub-districts with children travelling into Sharjah schools. Session start times here sit at 6.30pm or later, which rules out most in-home arrangements priced on a two-hour minimum.

Al Rashidiya

Central and older, mixing towers and villas near the Corniche. Families here tend to budget by term rather than by month, which suits a defined block with a measurable end point better than an open-ended monthly package.

Al Jurf

Mixed residential and commercial blocks with fast access to Sharjah. The practical constraint is a late return home, so a fixed online slot costs less in cancelled sessions than any arrangement involving travel.

Al Yasmeen and Al Zahya

Newer Emirates Road communities, often families who moved out from Dubai. These are the households most likely to be comparing an Ajman online rate against what they previously paid for in-home tuition in Dubai.

Al Helio and Al Rawda

Low-rise villa areas where households usually have good internet and a spare room. The limiting factor is noise rather than bandwidth, and a pair of headphones changes the value of an hour more than a rate negotiation does.

Emirates City and Al Alia

High-rise blocks a long way from most Ajman schools, with daily travel into Sharjah. The travel load already in the week is the main reason families here rule out adding a tutor's journey to it.

School ecosystem

The criterion bands from the most recent report plus one marked unit task with the task sheet attached. Those two documents show whether the issue is a single criterion or a coverage gap, which is the difference between a five-session block and a year of weekly teaching.

  2. 02

Read the descriptors together, at no cost

One conversation comparing the band your child scored against what that band descriptor actually asks for. This is where most enquiries change size, usually downwards, and it happens before any quote exists so there is nothing to negotiate against.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on the real task

One session at no charge, with no card details taken, working on the actual piece of work rather than on a generic exercise. You receive a written note afterwards naming the criterion in question and what the tutor would do about it.

  4. 04

Buy the smallest block that can be measured

A defined number of sessions ending in a re-marked task against the same criterion. Blocks are quoted as a total, not as a rolling monthly charge, so the commitment has an end date you chose rather than one you have to cancel.

  5. 05

    Review the band, then decide

Compare the re-marked task against the opening diagnostic. Continue, change subject focus, change tutor or stop. Stopping on evidence is a legitimate outcome and the block is structured so that it is an easy conversation rather than an awkward one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Priced by criterion, not by subject

A quote built around the specific criterion losing marks is usually smaller than a quote built around a subject name. We would rather sell a five-session repair that works than a year of weekly hours a family eventually resents paying for.

Every AED figure on this page has a source

The bands quoted belong to named providers who published them, and none is presented as our rate. Our own figure follows the trial lesson, because the shape of the work changes the number more than the subject does.

Slots built for an Ajman evening

Later starts for families returning from Sharjah or Dubai, post-Iftar timing during Ramadan, and no cancellation when the roads are bad. Over a term, a slot that holds produces more marked work than a better hour that does not.

A hard line on assessed work

On the Personal Project and on unit tasks, the student owns the goal, the journal and every sentence. We teach skills, read what exists and ask questions. We do not supply text, and we turn down the work when that is what is being asked for.

Specialists reachable from a small emirate

Because teaching is online, the pool for MYP Extended Mathematics or a specific language acquisition phase is national rather than whoever will drive into Ajman on a weekday evening. For unusual combinations that is the difference between a specialist and a substitute.

Advice that sometimes costs us the sale

Mid-band marks in a disliked subject, a communication habit showing up across six subjects, or an enquiry six weeks before a report are all cases where we will suggest spending less or nothing. It is the only way the recommendation means anything.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ajman: your questions answered

What does MYP tutoring cost per hour for a family in Ajman?+

Published market figures for middle-years online tuition in this country run from roughly AED 45 at the budget end to AED 450 or more for specialist work. Platforms have published rates from AED 33 to 52 and from AED 45 to 65; a qualified-tutor provider published from AED 150; specialist bands run AED 200 to 450 and above, and one named-tutor provider published AED 650. In-home visits are quoted separately at roughly AED 180 to 500 because travel is inside the price. Those are other providers' published figures. Our own quote follows the free trial lesson and depends on how much work the diagnosis actually calls for.

Why is my child's MYP report a number out of eight instead of a percentage?+

Because each MYP subject is assessed against four separate criteria, each marked from zero to eight, giving a maximum of thirty-two which the school converts into a one to seven grade using published boundaries. The structure is deliberately diagnostic: it shows which kind of thinking earned marks and which did not, rather than averaging everything into one figure. The practical consequence for a parent is that the number only becomes useful once you read the band descriptor beside it, because a five in a communication criterion and a five in a knowledge criterion call for completely different work.

Is paying for tuition in MYP Years 1 to 3 worth it at all?+

Often not, and that is worth hearing from a provider. In the early MYP years there is no external assessment, nothing a university will see, and plenty of time for a slow start to correct itself. The spend that does pay off is narrow: a genuine coverage gap after a curriculum change or a long absence, a diagnosed literacy or numeracy issue, or a transferable writing habit that will otherwise cost far more to fix in Year 11. A standing weekly commitment in a subject where the bands are mid-range usually buys attendance rather than learning.

How many sessions does it take to move one criterion band?+

For a single criterion in a single subject, four to six sessions is a realistic block, ending with a re-marked task against the same criterion so the change is visible rather than asserted. Communication and reflection criteria tend to move fastest, because the fix is a writing habit that can be practised on any content. Investigation criteria in Sciences and Design take longer, since the student has to produce a full piece of work to demonstrate the change. If a provider cannot put a number of sessions on it, they have not diagnosed it.

Does the Personal Project really need a paid tutor?+

It needs process discipline, which is not the same as weekly tuition. The project is marked against three criteria covering planning, applying skills and reflecting, each from zero to eight, and the product itself is evidence rather than the mark. Three to six sessions placed at the school's milestones, on goal setting, on recording process evidence as the work happens, and on reflection, address what is assessed. Many families instead buy months of weekly hours that never examine the planning criterion. The student must set the goal, keep the journal and write every word themselves.

What actually makes one MYP quote higher than another?+

Six things, in rough order of weight. Whether the work needs a subject specialist or a capable generalist, which accounts for most of the span. How many criteria are in scope, counted across subjects. Session length and frequency, since a fortnightly ninety-minute slot often costs less per month than a weekly hour. When in the school year you book, because demand spikes at report cycles. Whether siblings genuinely share a subject and slot. And format, since published in-home rates sit above online rates at every level because the travel is inside them.

Can two children in the same Ajman household share one booking?+

Where the subject and level genuinely overlap, yes, and it is cheaper per child than two separate arrangements. Where they do not, a shared session usually means each child gets half an hour of attention at the price of an hour's convenience. Sibling enquiries are common in Al Nuaimiya and Al Mowaihat, so the question is worth asking properly: same subject and close enough in the programme to share a task, or different subjects that need separate slots. We will tell you which case you are in before quoting rather than after.

Is a small group cheaper than one-to-one for MYP Mathematics?+

Per hour, yes, and tuition centres in this market price group classes well below individual rates. The catch is that group teaching follows a fixed syllabus schedule, while a criterion problem is specific to one student's writing and reasoning. A group class is good value where the gap is coverage, because several students need the same content. It is poor value where a report shows strong knowledge marks and weak communication marks, since nobody in a group of eight is going to sit with your child's working and rewrite how it is set out.

Should we save the money now and spend it on Diploma tuition later?+

Partly, and it depends what the reports show. Specialist Diploma tuition sits at the top of the published bands, around AED 200 to 450 and above per hour, while middle-years work sits lower. Closing a known transition gap at middle-years rates in Year 11 is cheaper than closing the same gap at Diploma rates during a coursework deadline. So saving on broad weekly subject tuition in the early MYP years is sensible; saving on a diagnosed algebra or evaluation-language gap heading into Year 12 usually costs more in the end.

Will an MYP grade of five matter to a university later?+

No university sees it. MYP marks are generated inside the school, are not externally moderated in most years, and do not appear on any transcript a university assesses. Their value is predictive: they indicate whether a student is ready for the writing demands and the external marking of the Diploma or of IGCSE. That is the right basis on which to judge middle-years tuition. A band that moves from four to five this term matters far less than whether the student has learned to write to a published descriptor before Year 12.

How does the MYP to Diploma jump change what we pay in Year 12?+

It usually raises it, because external marking, fixed command terms and moderated internal work all arrive at once. The gaps are predictable: algebraic fluency and proof notation for Analysis and Approaches, uncertainty treatment and formal evaluation for the sciences, close textual analysis at greater length for literature. Each is a few weeks of focused work in Year 11 at middle-years rates, or a term of remediation in Year 12 at specialist rates during a coursework deadline. Families who treat Year 11 as the preparation year rather than a quiet year generally spend less overall.

Do Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies sit outside the MYP grades?+

They run alongside the programme and take real timetable space. Private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. In Dubai schools, KHDA requires these subjects whatever the licensed curriculum, requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in the named subjects, and sets instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit. Support in these subjects has to work from the school's own material, because additional or alternative content needs prior Ministry permission.

Can a tutor mark my child's unit task before it is handed in?+

A tutor can teach the skills the task assesses and can read what the student has written and ask questions about it, including pointing out that a paragraph describes where the criterion asks for evaluation. What a tutor must not do is supply text, rewrite a section into its final form or produce the analysis. The student writes every sentence and keeps the dated drafts. If the school asks what support was received, declare it accurately: honest tuition described honestly causes no difficulty, while work that appears from nowhere raises exactly the questions a family does not want.

Would a tutor travel to our home in Ajman, and what would that add to the price?+

Not through IB Gram. We do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that is a service we run only in India, and UAE teaching is delivered one-to-one over live video. If you buy in-home tuition elsewhere, the published market rates sit at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 45 to 450 online, and monthly packages have been published at around AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits against about AED 799 for eight online sessions. The difference is the travel, which in Ajman means a forty-minute to two-hour round trip from most tutor bases.

What is the cheapest honest way to support an MYP student in Ajman?+

Read the band descriptors against the report yourself, identify whether one criterion or all four are low, and buy only for the narrow case. If one criterion is low, a block of four to six sessions ending in a re-marked task is the smallest unit that produces evidence. If communication marks are low across every subject, treat it as one writing habit rather than six subject problems. If the marks are mid-range in a subject your child simply dislikes, the cheapest option is genuinely to spend nothing this term and look again at the next report.

Diagnose the criterion before you buy the hour

If you are weighing up an IB MYP tutor in Ajman, the useful first step costs nothing: put the most recent report next to the band descriptors for the subject that worries you, and see whether one criterion is low or all four are. That single comparison usually decides whether you are buying a five-session repair or a term of teaching, and it is a far better basis for a budget than an hourly rate on a landing page. Send the report and one marked task with its task sheet, take the free trial lesson, and the quote that follows will be built on what the evidence actually shows rather than on the subject name.
