Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 Tutor in Ajman

A Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor in Ajman is usually hired after one disappointing mock, not after a plan. This page prices that work instead of advertising it. It sets out what the Ajman and northern-emirates market charges in AED per hour, which parts of the 0610 syllabus genuinely need paid hours, which parts a student can repair without spending anything, and how the Core and Extended entry changes both numbers. Lessons here are one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Core and Extended priced separately, because the teaching work is different
  • One-to-one lessons over live video on a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot

IB & IGCSE in Ajman

A 0610 bill is set by the papers your child sits, not by an hourly rate

Most families in Ajman arrive at this question through a report card rather than a plan. The Biology grade has come back two bands below the prediction, the science teacher has mentioned the practical paper, and the first thing a parent wants to know is what repairing that costs. No single hourly rate answers it, because Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is not one examination. It is three papers sat in one of two tiers, and the tier decides both the ceiling on the certificate and the number of hours any tutor needs to get near it.

The rates themselves are findable if you look past the brochures. EdFlik advertises online tuition from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150. TutorChase quotes around AED 270 for specialist IGCSE and IB work. The Bestimate tutoring-cost survey for 2026 places in-home one-to-one between AED 180 and 350, and subject specialists between AED 200 and 450 and above. Those are the market's own published numbers, dated October 2026, and they are the numbers this page works from. They are not an IB Gram price list; our own figure comes out of a consultation after we know which papers your child is entered for.

What those bands hide is that the same hour does very different work depending on where it is spent. An hour drilling multiple-choice recall for Paper 1 is nearly interchangeable between tutors, and the cheapest competent option is usually the right one. An hour spent marking a Paper 4 structured answer against the mark scheme, line by line, with the student rewriting it while the tutor watches, is a different product, and the price difference between those two hours is the whole argument of this page.

Ajman adds its own distortions. Private schools in the emirate sit under the federal Ministry of Education rather than an emirate-level authority, and the private-school set is small compared with Dubai or Sharjah. A large share of Ajman households have at least one parent commuting to Dubai or Sharjah, which pushes a realistic weeknight session to 7pm or later. It also means the local pool of people who have actually taught 0610 Extended to examination is thin, and scarcity shows up in a quote long before quality does.

So the sections below do four things in order: they split the 0610 grade into its components and attach hours to each, they compare Core against Extended on what each costs to teach, they publish the AED market table with sources, and they list the things that move a quote in this emirate specifically. There is also a section on what to try before paying anybody, because several of the cheapest fixes for a 0610 mark cost nothing at all.

One point before any of it. Tutoring for families here is delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. That is stated plainly because it changes the arithmetic in your favour rather than against it, and the comparison table further down shows exactly where.

At a glance

  • Core candidates sit Papers 1, 3 and either 5 or 6; Extended candidates sit Papers 2, 4 and either 5 or 6
  • Paper 3 or Paper 4 carries 50% of the grade, which is where most paid hours should go
  • The practical component is worth 20% and is the part Ajman families most often leave unrevised
  • A Core entry caps the certificate at grade C, whatever the tutoring spend
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, as published
  • Entry tier is set by the school at the Cambridge entry deadline, months before the paper
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Biology 0610 does not sit on its own. It is part of a route that usually starts in the Middle Years Programme or a British Key Stage 3 and ends in a Diploma or A Level science. Each stage below is described for what it costs a family in Ajman to support, not for what it looks like in a prospectus.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The two-year course that ends in the 0610 papers. Most Ajman schools begin it in Year 10 and finish teaching the syllabus some time in the spring of Year 11, which leaves a short revision window and a long autumn where nothing feels urgent. Biology is examined on all twenty-one topics regardless of the order a school teaches them, so a student who missed a term of Transport in Animals will meet it again in the paper.

Ajman private schools offering Cambridge IGCSE sit under federal Ministry of Education oversight, which regulates the schools rather than the examination. Cambridge sets the syllabus, the entry deadlines and the zone timetable; the school chooses the tier and the practical route. Parents in Ajman often discover the tier only when a mock paper comes home with Core printed on it, which is late in the process to be having that conversation.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board several Ajman and Sharjah schools use. Edexcel International GCSE Biology is a different specification with different papers and a different approach to practical skills, which are assessed inside the written papers rather than through a separate practical test. A tutor buying Cambridge 0610 past papers for an Edexcel candidate is wasting both of your money, so the first question in any trial lesson should be which board the school entered the child for.

Pearson runs International GCSE series in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are Pearson's own published dates and the live timetable should always be checked on the Pearson qualifications site before anyone plans a revision schedule around them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Some Ajman and Sharjah schools run the MYP to Year 11 rather than an IGCSE. MYP Sciences is assessed against four criteria rather than a timed paper, which means a student can arrive in a Diploma or A Level science without ever having written a structured answer under a clock. Families who then move a child into an IGCSE cohort mid-course usually need a short block of paid hours purely to teach examination technique.

The MYP-to-IGCSE transfer is more common in the northern emirates than people assume, because families move between schools when they move between Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai for work. The cost of that transfer is almost always underestimated: the content gap is small, the assessment-habit gap is large, and the second is the one that shows up in a December mock.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Biology

Where a strong 0610 Extended grade usually leads. Diploma Biology at Standard or Higher Level assumes the cell biology, genetics and physiology of the IGCSE course and moves straight into detail. Students who scraped a grade 6 at Extended tend to meet the gap in the first term of Year 12, which is why a family that invested properly in Year 11 often spends less in Year 12 than one that did not.

No IB session or results date is published on this page. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so any Diploma date a family plans around should be confirmed with the school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly. What can be said safely is that UAE schools sit the May session, and that the internal assessment deadlines inside a school sit months ahead of it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The 0610 syllabus has twenty-one topics. They do not cost the same to teach. The ten clusters below are the ones that absorb most paid hours in practice, with a note on where the marks actually go missing in each. A tutor who cannot tell you which of these your child is weak in after one session has not run a diagnostic.

Enzymes and biological molecules

Core and Extended

The commonest early loss. Students describe an enzyme as being killed by heat rather than denatured, and lose the mark for the change in active-site shape. Extended candidates also need the effect of pH and the idea of a specific substrate. Cheap to fix, usually two sessions, and worth fixing first because the vocabulary recurs in digestion, respiration and photosynthesis questions.

Movement into and out of cells

Core and Extended

Diffusion, osmosis and active transport. The Extended supplement requires water potential language and the energy requirement for active transport. Marks disappear in the osmosis practical questions, where students describe mass change without referring to water moving down a concentration gradient through a partially permeable membrane. It is examined in both the theory and the practical papers, so the hours here pay twice.

Plant nutrition and transport in plants

Core and Extended

Photosynthesis, limiting factors, transpiration and translocation. The limiting-factor graph is a reliable source of lost marks because students name the factor without saying what is happening at the plateau. Transpiration questions reward precise wording about the effect of wind, humidity and temperature on the rate, and a vague answer scores nothing even when the biology behind it is right.

Human nutrition and digestion

Core and Extended

The food tests sit here, which ties this topic directly to the practical component. Benedict's, iodine, biuret and the ethanol emulsion test have to be reproducible from memory, with the starting colour, the final colour and the condition stated. Students who learn only the colour change lose the mark for naming the reagent or the need to heat. Expect two paid hours, no more.

Transport in animals and gas exchange

Core and Extended

Heart structure, blood vessels, the double circulation and the lungs. The reliably difficult part is explaining why ventricle walls differ in thickness and relating the answer to pressure and distance. Gas-exchange questions want surface area, moisture, thin walls and a maintained gradient, and the fourth of those is the one most often missed.

Respiration and excretion

Core and Extended

Aerobic and anaerobic respiration, the word and symbol equations, oxygen debt at Extended, and the role of the kidney and liver. Students confuse breathing with respiration in almost every cohort, and an answer that uses the two interchangeably is marked wrong even where the reasoning is sound. Excretion is short and frequently skipped in school revision, which makes it cheap marks for anyone who covers it.

Coordination and response

Core and Extended

Reflex arcs, the eye, hormones, homeostasis and tropisms. Homeostasis questions ask for negative feedback in sequence: receptor, coordination centre, effector, correction. Students who write the parts in the wrong order lose the sequence mark even with every component named. The eye and the reflex arc are diagram-heavy, which is why they work well in a shared-screen session where the tutor can annotate as the student labels.

Reproduction in plants and humans

Core and Extended

Flower structure, pollination, fertilisation, the menstrual cycle, and sexually transmitted infection at Extended. The weakest answers describe pollination and fertilisation as the same event. The menstrual-cycle hormone graph rewards students who can name the hormone, its source and its effect together, which is three marks that regularly come back as one.

Inheritance, variation and selection

Core and Extended

The one area of 0610 with genuine method marks. Punnett squares, monohybrid crosses, codominance and sex linkage are marked on working as well as outcome, so a student who writes the correct ratio without the gametes scores less than one who sets it out properly and slips at the end. This is the topic where paid hours convert most directly into marks.

Ecology, human influence and biotechnology

Core and Extended

Food chains, energy transfer, the carbon and nitrogen cycles, pollution, conservation and genetic modification. It sits at the end of the syllabus, is taught last, and is therefore the material a February mock finds empty. It is also largely recall, which makes it the cheapest block on the list to repair and the worst use of an expensive specialist hour.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying 0610 help, with what each actually costs in hours and what each is genuinely good for. All three are delivered over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all three start with a trial lesson before any money moves.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

A fixed slot from autumn of Year 11 to the series, usually sixty minutes. The session follows the school's teaching order rather than the syllabus order, so the student is consolidating what was taught that week instead of revising something they will not meet for three months. This is the pattern that costs most across a year and the one that produces the steadiest change in a mock mark.

  • Sixty minutes a week, same slot, set work in between
  • Follows the school scheme of work, not a generic syllabus order
  • A marked written answer out of each session, not just a verbal explanation
  • Reviewed at week six against the first diagnostic

A short block before the series

Six to ten sessions bought in the weeks before a June or November paper, aimed at the two or three topics a mock showed to be hollow. This is the cheapest intervention that reliably moves a grade boundary, because it spends every hour on diagnosed weakness rather than on general coverage. It works badly if the whole course is missing and well if the gaps are specific.

  • Starts with a past paper sat under timed conditions
  • Targets the topics the paper exposes, in order of marks lost
  • Includes the practical paper, which is usually the least revised 20%
  • Finishes with a second timed paper for comparison

Practical-paper focus for Paper 5 or Paper 6

A narrow block on the experimental component alone: method, variables, tables, graphs, sources of error and improvements. Paper 6 responds well to this because it is a written paper about experiments. Paper 5 is sat in the school laboratory, so the work is teaching reliable method and write-up habits rather than rehearsing the apparatus itself.

  • Which route the school entered your child for is the first thing checked
  • Variables, controls and repeat readings drilled until they are automatic
  • Graph plotting and best-fit lines marked the way the scheme marks them
  • Error and improvement answers, where most of this paper's marks are lost

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ajman

01

What an Ajman parent is actually buying when they search for 0610 help

A search for a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor in Ajman is, nine times in ten, a search for a number. The parent has a mock result, an idea that something should be done, and no way to judge whether AED 120 an hour is a bargain or a warning sign. The published market gives a range rather than an answer: roughly AED 33 to 65 at the budget end, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for a specialist, with in-home visits sitting between AED 180 and 500 once travel is folded in. All of those are the market's figures, dated October 2026, and none of them is a price for your child's situation.

The reason the range is so wide is that the word tutor covers two different products. One is supervised practice: somebody competent sits with a student, keeps them working, explains what is unclear and gets through more past-paper questions than the student would alone. That is worth the budget rate and no more. The other is diagnosis and marking: somebody who knows the 0610 mark scheme reads a written answer, identifies which of the four or five expected points is missing, and makes the student produce the missing one in writing before the session ends. That takes subject knowledge and costs accordingly.

Which one your child needs is decided by the mock script, not by the budget. A student scoring 55% on Paper 4 with scattered partial credit across every question needs the second product. A student scoring 55% because they ran out of time and left the last four questions blank needs the first, plus a clock. The diagnostic in a first session exists to tell those two apart, and any tutor who quotes a package before reading a script is guessing.

The rest of this page assumes you want to know where each paid hour goes. It splits 0610 into the components Cambridge actually examines, attaches a realistic range of hours to each, prices the market, and then lists the local conditions in Ajman that push a quote up or down. It also names the parts you should not pay for at all.

02

The 0610 components, and which of them absorb paid hours

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is assessed through three papers. Which three depends on the tier. Core candidates sit Paper 1, a 45-minute multiple-choice paper worth 40 marks and 30% of the grade, and Paper 3, a structured theory paper of 1 hour 15 minutes worth 80 marks and 50%. Extended candidates sit Paper 2 and Paper 4, the same formats with supplement content. Both tiers then sit either Paper 5, a practical test in the school's laboratory worth 40 marks, or Paper 6, the written alternative to practical worth the same, each carrying 20% of the final grade.

That distribution is the whole argument for where money goes. Half the grade sits in one structured theory paper. A fifth sits in a practical component that many schools revise late and some barely revise at all. Less than a third sits in multiple choice, which is the cheapest thing on the list to improve because it responds to volume rather than expertise. A family paying specialist rates to drill multiple choice is buying the wrong hour.

The hours in the table below are ranges observed across students who started from a mock in the 40 to 60 per cent band, not promises. A student starting lower needs more; a student who is simply careless needs fewer than any of these. They are offered so that a quote can be checked against something. If a provider proposes thirty hours and twenty of them are aimed at Paper 1, that proposal can be read for what it is.

One component is worth singling out. Paper 4 is the only place in 0610 where the exact phrasing of a written answer regularly decides the mark, and it is also where the mark scheme is least intuitive to a student. An answer that is biologically true can score zero because it does not contain the comparative word the scheme requires. That is a teachable skill, it takes marked written practice rather than explanation, and it is the single most defensible line on a 0610 invoice.

Core or Extended: the entry that sets the ceiling before any money is spent

The most expensive mistake available to an Ajman family is paying for a year of Extended-level teaching for a child the school has entered at Core, or the reverse. The two tiers use different papers, different past-paper sets and different mark schemes. A tutor working from the wrong set is not partially useful; they are teaching a syllabus the student will not sit.

Core covers the core content of all twenty-one topics and leads to grades C through G. Extended adds supplement material in most topics and leads to grades A* through E. The practical component is common to both. The decision belongs to the school and is made against the Cambridge entry deadline, which falls months before the paper, so a mock result in March is often reacting to a decision already locked in November.

This matters to cost in a direct way. A Core student is usually buying practice and structure, which the market supplies at its lower rates. An Extended student is often buying teaching of material the school has covered quickly, which is where the AED 200 to 450 specialist band becomes defensible. Parents who do not know which tier their child is entered for should ask the science coordinator for the entry record in writing, and should do it before taking a quote, not after.

There is one more consequence worth stating without dressing it up. A Core entry means the certificate cannot show a grade above C, however well the papers go. For a student who intends to continue to A Level or IB Diploma Biology, that is not a small matter, and no amount of tutoring changes it after the entry deadline has passed. Where a tier change still looks possible and justified, the conversation to have is with the school, not with a tutor.

04

What the market charges, with the source for every figure

Three of the six most visible tutoring pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency an Ajman family transacts in. The table below collects what is actually published, in AED, with the provider attached to each band. It is a market survey, not our rate card.

Read it with two things in mind. First, an advertised from rate is a starting point for the easiest possible booking: a younger student, a common subject, an off-peak slot. A Year 11 Extended Biology student in February is none of those things, and the real quote will sit higher in the band than the headline. Second, an in-home rate has travel inside it whether or not the invoice says so. A tutor driving forty minutes each way to Al Mowaihat is pricing eighty minutes of their evening into a sixty-minute lesson, and that is why the in-home band sits where it does.

Monthly packages are common and need the same scepticism. Advertised offers in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Divide before comparing: the first is close to AED 100 an hour, the second works out near AED 200 to 225. The Bestimate survey's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

IB Gram's own position is deliberately not a row in this table. Our figure depends on the tier, the subject and how many weeks remain before the series, and it is quoted in a consultation after a trial lesson rather than guessed from a URL. What can be said in advance is that there is no travel line in it, because the lessons are delivered over live video.

Six things that move a 0610 quote up or down in Ajman specifically

  • Scarcity of local Extended Biology teachers, which raises in-home rates hardest
  • Month of booking: an October start prices differently from a March start
  • Time of day, with the post-7pm commuter peak carrying the premium
  • One tutor across two sciences against two separate specialists
  • Whether marked written work is included or only explanation
  • Core or Extended entry, which most quotes are issued without knowing

Generic rate tables stop being useful the moment you ask for a quote, because the quote is shaped by local conditions. In this emirate six of them do most of the work, and knowing which ones apply to your household lets you tell a fair number from an opportunistic one.

The first is scarcity. Ajman's private-school set is small, and the number of people locally who have taught Extended Biology through to a series is smaller still. Scarcity raises in-home rates far more sharply than it raises online ones, because an online pool is not bounded by a driving radius. The second is timing: a request made in October for a weekly slot is priced differently from the same request made in March, when every competent Biology tutor in the northern emirates is already booked through the series.

The third is the slot itself. With a large share of Ajman parents commuting to Dubai or Sharjah, demand concentrates after 7pm, and the evening peak carries a premium in any market with a fixed supply of hours. A family that can take a 4.30pm slot on a Friday is buying from a much less crowded shelf. The fourth is the number of subjects: a single tutor covering Biology alongside a second science usually quotes a lower per-hour figure than two separate specialists, though only if they genuinely teach both to examination level.

The fifth is whether marking is included. An hour that ends with a marked written answer costs more to deliver than an hour of explanation, and a quote that is cheap per hour but produces nothing in writing is not cheaper per mark. The sixth is the tier, which is the one already covered above and the one most parents do not think to mention when asking for a price. A quote given without it is a quote given blind.

06

The practical component: a fifth of the grade and the hardest hour to buy locally

Twenty per cent of the 0610 grade comes from either Paper 5, a practical test sat in the school's laboratory, or Paper 6, a written paper about experimental work. Which one a student sits is a school decision made at entry. Many Ajman families do not know which applies to their child, and a surprising number of students find out in the examination hall.

That matters commercially, because the two routes have completely different costs. Paper 6 is a written paper. It rewards knowing how to tabulate results, plot a graph properly, identify the independent and dependent variables, name a control, state a source of error and propose an improvement that is actually testable. Every one of those is teachable over a shared screen with past-paper questions, and it is among the best value blocks a family can buy, because schools routinely under-revise it.

Paper 5 is harder to help with honestly. The student handles apparatus in their own school laboratory, and no tutor can replicate that. What a tutor can do is drill the thinking that surrounds the practical work: how to record repeat readings, when to discard an anomalous result and say so, how to describe a method so another person could follow it, and how to answer the evaluation questions that carry marks at the end. Any provider claiming to deliver laboratory practice remotely is selling something that does not exist.

The practical papers also reach backwards into the theory course. The food tests belong to human nutrition. The osmosis investigation belongs to movement into and out of cells. The photosynthesis rate experiment belongs to plant nutrition. A block of practical work therefore repairs theory topics at the same time, which is the reason it tends to be the most efficient spend in the whole 0610 plan.

07

Spending nothing first: what moves a 0610 mark without a tutor

Several of the most reliable improvements in a Biology grade cost nothing, and a page that prices tutoring without saying so is not being straight with you. Start with the school. Ask the science teacher for the mark breakdown of the last mock by question rather than the total. A total tells you there is a problem; the breakdown tells you whether it is recall, application, practical or timing, and those four problems have four different solutions, only two of which need paying for.

Next, ask which tier and which practical route your child is entered for, in writing. It is free, it takes one email, and it prevents the single most expensive error described on this page. While you are asking, request the school's scheme of work for the rest of the year, so that any tutoring you do buy can follow the class rather than run parallel to it.

Then there is the student's own past-paper habit. Working through questions with the mark scheme open beside them teaches nothing, because recognising a correct answer is not the same as producing one. Working through them closed, then marking honestly against the scheme afterwards and writing out the corrected version, is the single highest-return unpaid activity available in this course. Cambridge publishes specimen and past materials through schools and its own channels; your child's teacher is the right route to them, and nobody should be supplying copies of board material outside that.

If, after all that, the gaps are specific and the student is still short, that is the point at which paid hours start earning their rate. A tutor working on a diagnosed list of three topics and a known paper is worth considerably more per hour than one hired to be generally helpful, and will usually be needed for fewer hours.

08

Entries, series and the dates that cost money when missed

Cambridge runs IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Every examination centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge is explicit that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after consulting the wrong one. For a family in Ajman whose child sits papers at a Sharjah or Dubai centre, checking the zone against the school's own timetable is a five-minute job worth doing.

The gap between entry and examination is larger than most parents expect, and it is the reason a tier conversation in March is usually too late. For the June series the final entry closes in the spring, months ahead of the first paper, and once it closes the tier a candidate is entered at is fixed for that sitting. The only route to a different tier after that is the November series, whose own entry closes in the summer. Forecast grades go to Cambridge through the centre before the papers are sat, results reach candidates in August for a June entry and in January for a November one, and certificates follow some weeks later. One warning about what a search for Cambridge key dates returns: the February and early-March sitting that comes up first, with its own published deadlines, is offered to candidates in India only, so none of those dates apply to a child sitting 0610 in Ajman. The deadline that binds your child is the one printed on the statement of entry the school issues, and the exams officer can confirm it in writing.

Pearson's International GCSE calendar runs on its own schedule, with series in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why any plan should be built against the live official timetable rather than against a date copied from a page like this one.

Counted backwards from a June paper, the useful markers are simple. The autumn term is when a weekly slot is cheap and available. The winter mock is the diagnostic that tells you what to buy. February and March are when the practical component should be addressed, because it is the part the school revises last. April is for timed full papers. May is for sleep, and for nothing that a tutor can sell you.

09

What the fee does not buy, and the line a tutor works inside

No fee buys a grade. Any provider offering one in this market should be read carefully, because a promise of a specific outcome in a public examination is a claim nobody can honour and a claim UAE consumer rules take seriously. What a fee buys is teaching time, marking and a record of what changed, and a parent is entitled to see all three.

A fee also does not buy coursework. Cambridge IGCSE Biology has no written coursework component, but the honesty principle still applies to practical write-ups and any school-assessed work: a tutor teaches method, explains where a scheme awards marks, and gives feedback on work the student has produced themselves. A tutor who offers to supply finished answers for submission is creating a malpractice risk that sits with the student, not with them.

Nor does a fee buy board material. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge and Pearson, and the right route to them is the school or the board's own site. Reference them, link to them, work from what the school provides; do not accept a provider distributing copies as a selling point.

On the legal side, private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work rather than casual work. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts is published, so none is quoted here. It is a fair question to ask anyone you are about to pay.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ajman

Ajman is compact, and a tutoring decision here is shaped less by distance than by which direction the household drives in the morning. These notes are about session timing and school intake rather than scenery, because those are the two things that actually decide whether a weekly Biology slot survives past week four.

Al Nuaimiya

Dense, central and close to several of the emirate's long-established private schools. Families here are often within a short drive of school, which means a 5.30pm start is realistic and a weekly slot can sit earlier in the evening than most of Ajman manages.

Al Rashidiya

Older Ajman, close to the Corniche and the city's commercial strip. A good number of households here have a parent working locally rather than commuting south, so Biology sessions can run before the evening meal rather than after it.

Al Jurf

Industrial and residential in parts, with the Ajman University area nearby. Several families here run two or three children through different curricula at once, which is where the per-hour versus per-month arithmetic in the cost table starts to matter in a practical way.

Al Mowaihat

Villa communities inland from the city, popular with families who want space and accept a longer school run. That run is the reason a 4pm in-home visit rarely works here and a 7.30pm video session usually does.

Al Zahya and Al Tallah

The newer developments along the Emirates Road belt, closest to the Sharjah border. A parent working in Dubai will typically not be home before 7pm, and a Year 11 Biology session scheduled before that tends to be the one that gets cancelled.

Al Helio and Al Rawda

Mixed villa and apartment districts with a broad school spread across Ajman and Sharjah. Households here often choose a school in a neighbouring emirate, which makes the Cambridge or Edexcel board question worth asking before any tutoring is booked.

Ajman Corniche and Al Rumailah

Apartment living along the waterfront. The practical constraint here is a quiet room rather than a commute: a Biology session with a shared screen and a webcam needs a door that closes, and for several families that is the thing that has to be solved first.

Emirates City and Al Alia

High-rise residential towers towards the Sharjah boundary with a young, mostly expatriate population. Few subject specialists live within a short drive, which is exactly the scarcity the market rate table reflects and the reason video delivery changes the available pool.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ajman

Ajman city: Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya and Al Jurf

The established city schools, mostly British and Indian curriculum, several of them running Cambridge IGCSE sciences to Year 11. Board and tier vary between them and change between cohorts, so the entry on your child's statement is the only reliable source.

  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Ajman
  • Ibn Seena English High School, Ajman
  • Habitat School, Ajman
  • Ajman Modern School
  • Al Ameer English School, Ajman
  • Scholars Indian School, Ajman

The Emirates Road belt and over the border

Newer campuses along the Emirates Road corridor, plus the Sharjah and Dubai schools that a meaningful number of Ajman families drive to each morning. A household in Al Zahya may well have a child sitting Cambridge papers at a Sharjah centre.

  • Ajman Academy
  • Pace British School, Ajman
  • The City School International, Ajman
  • Ajman Private School
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • The International School of Creative Science, Sharjah

Schools are named here only as local context for families in Ajman; IB Gram has no affiliation with any of them, and curricula change, so confirm the current board and tier with the school directly.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the mock script, not the grade

The useful first message contains the last Biology paper with the marks shown by question, the tier your child is entered for if you know it, and the practical route. A grade on its own tells us almost nothing. A script tells us whether the problem is recall, phrasing, application or the clock, and those need different tutors and different numbers of hours.

  2. 02

    A free 50-minute trial lesson

One lesson with no card details taken beforehand and no commitment afterwards. It runs as a diagnostic: a few questions across different topics and command words, a written answer produced and marked live, and a direct opinion at the end about what is wrong and roughly how long it takes to fix. If the answer is that you do not need paid hours, that is what you will be told.

  3. 03

A written plan with a number attached

After the trial you get the topic list in priority order, the papers each session targets, the number of sessions proposed and what that costs in AED. The plan says which parts you should do without us, because several of them are free. Nothing is charged until you agree the plan, and the plan is a working document rather than a package.

  4. 04

    Weekly sessions with written output

Each session leaves something behind: a marked answer, a corrected version written by the student, and a short note on what to practise before the next one. That record is what makes progress arguable rather than felt, and it is what you should ask any provider for regardless of whether you work with us.

  5. 05

A review at week six, honestly

Six sessions in, we compare the diagnostic against a fresh timed paper and say whether the change is real. If the marks have moved, the plan continues and may shorten. If they have not, we change the tutor or tell you the approach is wrong. Continuing to invoice while nothing moves is the commonest failure in this market and the easiest one to avoid.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices on the page, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to October 2026. Three of the most visible competitor pages in this market publish no price at all, and one of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. A family should be able to judge a quote before speaking to anybody.

The tier question asked first

Core and Extended are different courses with different papers and different mark schemes. We ask which one your child is entered for before quoting, because a quote issued without it is guesswork and a tutor working from the wrong past papers is worse than no tutor at all.

Delivery stated plainly

Lessons are one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Saying so lets a family compare like with like instead of discovering the format after payment, and it removes the travel line that sits silently inside every in-home rate.

A pool that is not bounded by a driving radius

The constraint on Biology help in Ajman is not money; it is how few people within a short drive have taught Extended 0610 through to a series. Video delivery replaces a radius with availability, which is the one structural advantage of the format and the reason it is the format we use.

Marked written work, every session

Half the 0610 grade sits in a structured theory paper where phrasing decides marks. That skill is built by writing answers and having them marked against the scheme, not by listening to explanations. Every session produces a marked answer and a corrected rewrite, and you can read both.

The honest no

If a trial lesson shows that the gap is timing or effort rather than understanding, we say so and do not sell you twenty hours. If no specialist is free for the subject and slot you need, we say that too rather than filling the slot with somebody who teaches a different science.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ajman: your questions answered

What does a Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tutor cost per hour for a family in Ajman?+

The published market in the UAE runs from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour for generalist online tuition, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, and AED 200 to 450 and above for an IGCSE or IB specialist. In-home visits sit between AED 180 and 500 because travel is priced inside the rate. Those figures come from EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and the Bestimate 2026 rate survey, read in October 2026. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, once the tier and the time remaining before the series are known, and there is no travel line in it.

Is Biology 0610 cheaper to tutor than Chemistry 0620 or Physics 0625?+

Slightly, in most of this market, and for a supply reason rather than a difficulty one. More teachers are comfortable teaching Biology to IGCSE level than are comfortable with Physics, so the pool is deeper and the scarcity premium is smaller. That gap narrows sharply at the Extended tier and disappears entirely in February and March, when every competent science tutor in the northern emirates is booked. If a quote for Biology comes in above the specialist band, ask what is in the hour that justifies it, and expect the answer to involve marking.

How many paid hours does a Year 11 Biology student in Ajman usually need?+

It depends almost entirely on where the marks are being lost. A student at 55 per cent on Paper 4 with scattered partial credit across every question is typically looking at fifteen to twenty-five hours spread over a term, because the work is marked written practice and that cannot be compressed. A student at the same mark who simply ran out of time needs perhaps six, plus a clock. A student missing whole topics needs a plan with the school rather than a tutor. The diagnostic in a first lesson exists to tell these apart before anyone commits.

Does preparing for Paper 6 cost less than preparing for Paper 5?+

Preparation for Paper 6 is usually better value, because Paper 6 is a written paper about experiments and therefore responds directly to written practice over a shared screen. Variables, tables, graph plotting, sources of error and improvements are all teachable remotely and are reliably under-revised in school. Paper 5 is a practical test sat in the school laboratory, so a tutor can teach method, recording and evaluation but cannot replicate the apparatus. Both carry 20 per cent of the grade. The first thing to establish is which route your child's school entered them for, because the two need different work.

My son is entered for Core Biology. Is it worth paying to move him up to Extended?+

A tier change is a school decision taken against the Cambridge entry deadline, not something tutoring can arrange, so the first conversation is with the science coordinator rather than with us. Where a change is still possible, the question is whether the student can absorb the supplement material in the time left and still hold the core content securely. If the answer is yes, the certificate ceiling moves from grade C to A*, which matters for any route into A Level or Diploma Biology. If the answer is no, paying for Extended teaching buys a worse Core result.

Are there cheaper ways to raise a 0610 grade in Ajman than one-to-one tutoring?+

Several, and they should be tried first. Ask the school for the mock mark breakdown by question rather than the total, so you know whether the loss is recall, application, practical or timing. Confirm the entry tier and practical route in writing. Get the scheme of work for the rest of the year. Then have the student work past-paper questions with the mark scheme closed, mark honestly afterwards and rewrite the weak answers. None of that costs anything, and it is also what makes any paid hours you do buy go further.

Why do Biology tutoring quotes in the northern emirates rise between January and April?+

Because supply is fixed and demand is not. The number of people in and around Ajman who can teach Extended Biology to examination level does not change during the year, but the number of families wanting them rises sharply once winter mock results come home. By March most competent science tutors in the area are committed through the June series, and the remaining availability is priced accordingly. Booking a weekly slot in October costs less and secures a better tutor than booking the same help in March, which is the strongest practical argument for starting early.

Do you charge for the first Biology session?+

No. The first 50-minute lesson is free, with no card details taken beforehand and no obligation afterwards. It is run as a diagnostic rather than a sample lesson: a spread of questions across topics and command words, one written answer produced and marked live, and a direct opinion about what is actually wrong. You then receive a written plan with a number attached before anything is charged. If the lesson suggests the problem does not need paid hours, that is what the plan will say.

Can one tutor cover 0610 Biology and 0620 Chemistry for the same student?+

Often, and it usually reduces the per-hour figure because one person is filling two slots. The test is whether they have taught both to examination level rather than whether they feel confident in both. Ask which papers they have taught most recently in each, and ask to see how they mark a structured answer in the weaker of the two. Where the honest answer is that they are strong in one and passable in the other, two specialists for fewer total hours is usually the better purchase than one generalist for more.

How much of the 0610 grade is already decided before the written papers?+

Twenty per cent of it, through the practical component, is decided by work done in or about the laboratory rather than in the theory papers. The tier is also fixed in advance, and with it the ceiling on the grade. Everything else is still open. That matters for budgeting: a family discovering in April that the practical paper has not been revised has a fifth of the grade in play and very little time, which is why a block aimed at Paper 5 or Paper 6 in February is one of the most efficient purchases in the whole course.

Which of the twenty-one 0610 topics should we pay for first?+

Whichever the mock script says, and the script usually says one of four. Inheritance and genetics, because it carries method marks and rewards being taught properly. Enzymes and biological molecules, because the vocabulary recurs across digestion, respiration and photosynthesis. Transport and gas exchange, because the explanation chains are long and partial answers score poorly. And the practical skills behind Paper 5 or 6. Ecology and human influence usually comes last in the teaching order and is largely recall, which makes it the worst use of a specialist hour and the best use of a weekend.

Does a family in Ajman pay more because few Biology specialists live nearby?+

For in-home tuition, yes, and noticeably. A small emirate with a small private-school set has few people who have taught Extended 0610 through to a series, and anyone travelling to a villa in Al Mowaihat or a tower in Emirates City is pricing the drive into the hour whether the invoice itemises it or not. Online delivery removes that constraint, because the pool is no longer bounded by a driving radius. That is the main reason the format exists here rather than a claim that screens teach better than rooms.

Is a monthly Biology package better value than paying per session?+

Only after you divide. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, which works out near AED 100 an hour, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which lands closer to AED 200 to 225. A package is good value when the sessions will genuinely be used and bad value in a month with half-term, travel or examinations in it. Ask what happens to unused sessions before agreeing, and ask whether marking is included or billed separately.

What should a 0610 quote tell me before I accept it?+

Six things. Which tier and which practical route it assumes. How many sessions, over how many weeks. Whether marked written work is included or only explanation. Who the tutor is and which papers they have taught most recently. What happens if the match is wrong after two sessions. And what the total comes to in AED rather than per hour. A quote missing any of those is not yet a quote, and a provider who will not put them in writing has told you something useful.

Does a Biology tutor charging an Ajman family need a UAE permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. It is a reasonable question to ask anybody before you pay them.

Start with the script, not the search

If you take one thing from this page, make it the mock paper rather than the rate table. Send the last Biology script with marks shown by question, tell us the tier and the practical route if you know them, and take the free 50-minute diagnostic. You will get a written plan in AED, a priority list of topics, and an honest note on which parts of it you should do yourselves without paying anyone. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled late enough to survive an Ajman commute. If no specialist is free for your subject and slot, we will say so rather than fill it.
