IB DP Math AA HL Tutor in Ajman

An IB DP math AA HL tutor in Ajman is usually hired for one reason: a Higher Level grade has stalled and the family wants to know what fixing it costs before committing to anything. This page answers the money question first. What the UAE market charges per hour, what pushes an hourly quote from AED 180 to AED 450, and what an Ajman address specifically changes about both. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time evenings, with one free trial lesson per student before any payment is taken.

  • AED bands quoted from UAE rate cards published in October 2026
  • Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3 and exploration weightings stated in full
  • One free trial lesson per student, no card details required
  • Delivered live online; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Ajman

What Analysis and Approaches HL support actually costs an Ajman family

Almost every enquiry about Higher Level maths in Ajman arrives with a number attached. A parent has been quoted AED 200 by one person, AED 450 by another and AED 650 by a third, all for the same Higher Level course, and nobody has explained why. That spread is real and it is not arbitrary. It tracks four things: whether the tutor teaches the Diploma specifically or maths in general, whether marking timed scripts is inside the hour or billed on top, whether someone is driving across the northern emirates to reach you, and how close the May session is when you call.

The honest starting position is that Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most expensive hour in Diploma tutoring, and there is a reason for that beyond scarcity. The course runs to 240 taught hours against 150 at Standard Level, it carries a Paper 3 that nothing in the student's prior schooling resembles, and a tutor who can teach proof by induction, Maclaurin series and vector geometry to a student who is behind on all three is a narrower pool than one who can get a Year 10 through quadratics. In Ajman that pool is narrower still, because the emirate has a small number of private schools running the full Diploma and almost no local market in Higher Level specialists.

That scarcity is exactly why this page is written around delivery over live video rather than a visit. A family in Al Rawda or Al Mowaihat searching for someone local is choosing from whoever happens to live within a twenty-minute drive and is free at seven in the evening. The same family working online is choosing from Analysis and Approaches specialists outright, and paying for teaching hours rather than for a car on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India, and this page is clear about that before any money is discussed.

What follows is the arithmetic in full. There is a table of what the UAE market publishes by provider model, with each band attributed to the rate card it came from. There is a second table of the six things that move a Higher Level quote in this emirate specifically. There is a breakdown of where the hours actually go inside the course, because a plan built around Paper 3 and the exploration costs differently from a plan built around catching up on Topic 1, and a family that knows which one it needs stops overpaying for the other.

No figure on this page is an IB Gram price list, and no figure is an invention. Where a band is quoted it belongs to the provider that published it, read in October 2026. Our own model is a free trial lesson first, then an agreed plan with a stated number of sessions, so the cost of the next month is a number you can see rather than a range you have to guess at. If the trial shows that tutoring is not what your child needs, the page below also sets out what to try that costs nothing.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A Higher Level maths problem rarely begins in Year 12. It begins two or three years earlier, in a Middle Years or IGCSE classroom where algebraic fluency was good enough to pass and not good enough to build on. Pricing a Higher Level plan honestly means knowing which of these stages the gap belongs to.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

The Higher Level Analysis route is built on 240 taught hours across five topic areas: number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus. Higher Level adds content that has no Standard Level counterpart at all, including proof by induction, complex numbers in polar and Euler form, Maclaurin series, vector equations of lines and planes, and the harder integration techniques. Assessment is three written papers plus the mathematical exploration, which is marked internally against five criteria and moderated by the IB.

In Ajman the practical constraint is cohort size. A school running one Higher Level Analysis class of a handful of students cannot timetable a second teacher for it, so a student who falls behind in DP1 has nowhere inside the building to go. Families here commonly reach for paid support earlier in DP1 than families in Dubai do, and that earlier start is also the cheapest version of the intervention.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme Mathematics, extended strand

MYP mathematics is reported against four criteria rather than a percentage, which makes it hard for a parent to see an algebra problem coming. The extended strand in MYP 4 and 5 is the designated route into Higher Level Analysis, and the criterion that predicts Higher Level survival is Criterion C, communicating, because it is where setting out a full algebraic argument is assessed. A student scoring well on Criterion A knowledge and poorly on Criterion C will meet Paper 1 badly.

Ajman's IB continuum provision is concentrated in a small number of campuses, so many Higher Level candidates in the emirate arrive from a Middle Years programme that was not extended, or from a British or Indian curriculum school in Ajman or Sharjah. Pricing a Higher Level plan for those students means budgeting for a bridging block first, which is cheaper bought in DP1 than repaired in DP2.

PRE-DPAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and Year 11 bridge into Higher Level Analysis

The jump from an IGCSE Extended maths grade into Higher Level Analysis is the single most underestimated transition in the Diploma. IGCSE rewards a correct answer; Higher Level pays for the argument that reaches it. Students who sat Cambridge 0580 without the Additional Mathematics 0606 paper have usually never met formal proof, radian measure as a working unit, or differentiation from first principles, and all three appear in the first term of DP1.

Most Ajman students entering Higher Level Analysis come through Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE at a school in the emirate or across the border in Sharjah. A six to eight week bridge over the summer between Year 11 and DP1 costs a fraction of a full DP2 rescue, and it is the only point in the whole sequence where the work can be done without a deadline pressing on it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Higher Level Analysis is five topic areas, and they do not cost the same to fix. Below is each one with what it assesses and where the marks actually leak, which is how a plan gets priced honestly rather than by the hour in the abstract.

Number and algebra, Higher Level extensions

HL only content

Binomial expansion with fractional and negative indices, partial fractions, permutations and combinations, proof by induction, contradiction and counterexample, and complex numbers in Cartesian, modulus-argument and Euler form. Proof is where Higher Level candidates lose most of their Paper 1 marks, because the mark scheme pays for structure and students write conclusions without the step that earns them.

Functions and their transformations

HL

Composite and inverse functions, the modulus function, reciprocal and rational functions, odd and even symmetry, and the sketching of transformed graphs without a calculator. Paper 1 asks for a sketch with intercepts, asymptotes and stationary points labelled; a graph drawn without those labels earns almost nothing even when its shape is right.

Geometry and trigonometry, including vectors

HL

Radian measure, compound and double angle identities, inverse trigonometric functions, and the full vector strand: scalar and vector products, equations of lines and planes, angles between planes and intersection problems. Vectors appear in every paper and are the topic Ajman students most often arrive at Higher Level never having seen, because no IGCSE route covers them.

Statistics and probability

HL

Discrete and continuous random variables, expectation and variance, the binomial and normal distributions, Bayes' theorem, and conditional probability trees. Higher Level adds probability density functions and transformations of random variables. Marks are lost here to arithmetic set up correctly in the wrong order rather than to misunderstanding, which makes it one of the cheaper topics to repair.

Differential calculus

HL

Differentiation from first principles, the chain, product and quotient rules, implicit differentiation, related rates, concavity and points of inflexion, and optimisation in context. The expensive gap is not technique but reading: students differentiate correctly and answer a question the examiner did not ask, because the command term was analyse rather than find.

Integral calculus and differential equations

HL

Integration by substitution and by parts, partial fractions in integration, volumes of revolution, kinematics as a calculus problem, and first-order differential equations by separation of variables, homogeneous substitution and the integrating factor. This is the heaviest Higher Level strand by teaching hours and the one most likely to need a dedicated block of sessions.

Maclaurin series and limits

HL only content

L'Hôpital's rule, Maclaurin series from standard results and by differentiation, and the use of series in approximation and integration. It sits late in the DP2 scheme of work, which means a student who is behind by February meets it for the first time weeks before the papers. Budgeting a Higher Level plan without allowing for this topic is the most common planning error.

Paper 3 problem solving

HL only paper

Two extended response questions in one hour, worth a fifth of the Higher Level grade between them. Each question builds a small piece of unfamiliar mathematics through scaffolded parts, so the skill assessed is following a mathematical argument the student has never seen before. It cannot be revised by topic, which is why it is the component families most often pay for separately.

The mathematical exploration

HL internal assessment

A piece of independent mathematical writing marked out of twenty against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The use of mathematics criterion carries six of the twenty marks and is where Higher Level candidates are judged against Higher Level content, not against effort. Support here is supervision and feedback on the student's own work.

Calculator and technology skills

HL, Papers 2 and 3

Graphical calculator fluency is examined in Papers 2 and 3 and absent from Paper 1. Solving numerically, finding intersections, evaluating definite integrals and handling statistical distributions on the device are separate skills from the mathematics itself, and a student who learned the maths on paper will lose time rather than marks until they are drilled.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying Higher Level maths hours, priced differently because they do different work. Most Ajman families start with the second and move to the third in the final term.

Weekly ninety-minute one-to-one

The standard shape for a Higher Level student who is behind on content rather than on technique. Ninety minutes is the shortest slot in which a Higher Level topic can be taught, practised and checked in one sitting, and it is why Higher Level is rarely sold in sixty-minute blocks the way Standard Level is. Sessions run on live video with a shared whiteboard and the student's own working visible.

  • One topic taught, practised and diagnosed per session
  • Written working photographed and marked between sessions
  • A short note to the parent after each session in plain English
  • Slot held for the term so an Ajman school run can be planned around it

Paper 3 block

A fixed run of sessions aimed only at the Higher Level third paper, usually taken in DP2 between the mock results and study leave. Paper 3 cannot be revised topic by topic because each question invents its own mathematics, so the block drills reading a scaffolded argument, extracting what the stem is defining and writing the early parts fully enough to earn the later ones.

  • Past Paper 3 questions worked under the real one-hour constraint
  • Marked against the published mark scheme, with method marks separated from accuracy marks
  • Explicit work on the command terms that carry the heaviest marks
  • Priced as a block of sessions, not an open-ended hourly arrangement

Exploration supervision

Scheduled sessions around the mathematical exploration, timed to the school's own internal deadlines rather than to the IB's. The tutor's role is to question the topic choice, check that the mathematics reaches Higher Level, read the student's own draft and give feedback against the five criteria. The student's work stays the student's work throughout, and the authenticity declaration they sign means that is not a formality.

  • Topic viability checked before weeks are spent on a dead end
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback with the mark allocation named
  • A version history the student keeps, dated and in their own hand
  • Clear limits: feedback and questions, never supplied text

01

What the UAE market charges for Higher Level maths, by provider model

An Analysis and Approaches HL tutor in the UAE is quoted somewhere between AED 150 and AED 450 an hour by qualified specialists, with budget platforms advertising well below that and one premium provider publishing AED 650. Those are published market figures read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list, and the band a family lands in depends far more on what the hour includes than on where they live.

The table below sets out each provider model with the rate its own published material carries. The pattern worth noticing is that the cheap end of the market is cheap because it is selling something narrower: a slot with a university-student tutor, a group of four to ten, or a fixed syllabus pace that does not bend to a student's particular gap. None of that is dishonest, and for a student who is broadly on track and needs company while practising, it is good value. For a Higher Level candidate who cannot start a proof by induction, it is money spent on the wrong thing.

The other pattern is that in-home delivery sits at a premium across every tier, and the premium is travel. A tutor crossing from Dubai or Sharjah into Ajman at six in the evening is giving up an hour of billable time each way, and that hour is inside the rate whether or not the invoice itemises it. That is the single clearest argument for buying Higher Level hours online, and it is an arithmetic argument rather than a marketing one.

Three of the six ranking providers in this market publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars. A UAE family transacting in dirhams should treat an unpublished rate as a signal to ask for the hourly figure, the session length, what marking is included and whether the figure covers a sixty or a ninety-minute slot, before the first session rather than after it.

The six things that move a Higher Level quote in this emirate

Two Ajman families can be quoted AED 180 and AED 420 for the same course in the same week, and both quotes can be fair. The variables are knowable, and a parent who asks about them directly stops being quoted a number and starts being quoted a plan. The table sets out each one with what pushes it to the bottom or the top of its range.

Scarcity is the first and biggest. Higher Level Analysis is the narrowest maths specialism in the Diploma, and the supply of people who can teach Maclaurin series and vector planes to a struggling DP2 student is not a large pool anywhere in the UAE. In Ajman specifically, where the emirate's Diploma cohorts are small, a locally resident Higher Level specialist is close to a statistical accident. That is what an online-first model is actually buying: access to the whole specialist pool rather than to the subset within driving distance.

Timing is the second, and it is the one families control. A plan started in September of DP1 is bought in ordinary weekly hours. The same repair attempted in March of DP2 is bought in intensives, at a point when every specialist's evening slots are already taken and the honest answer to a late enquiry is sometimes that nobody suitable is free. Rates climb close to the session across this market, and availability tightens before the rate does.

The rest is scope. Whether timed marking sits inside the hour, whether exploration supervision is counted separately, whether a ninety-minute slot is priced at one and a half hours or at a block rate, and whether the tutor writes anything down for the parent. None of those are standard across the market, which means an hourly figure on its own tells a family almost nothing.

Paper 3 is the hour you are really paying for

  • Paper 1: no calculator, algebraic fluency and full written argument
  • Paper 2: graphical calculator, question selection and efficient technology use
  • Paper 3: one hour, two extended questions, a fifth of the Higher Level grade
  • Exploration: twenty marks across five criteria, internally marked and IB moderated
  • Paper 3 practice needs a ninety-minute slot; an hour is not enough to sit it and review it

Higher Level Analysis is examined by three papers. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator and rewards algebraic control. Paper 2 allows a graphical calculator and rewards knowing when to use it. Paper 3 is one hour, two extended questions, and a fifth of the final grade, and it is unlike anything else in the student's school career.

Each Paper 3 question invents a small piece of mathematics in its stem and then walks the candidate through it in scaffolded parts. A question might define an unfamiliar sequence, ask for a few terms, ask for a conjecture, then ask for a proof of the conjecture by induction. The mathematics required is all on the syllabus; the skill being examined is reading a mathematical argument that the student has never met and keeping hold of the thread for an hour.

This is why Paper 3 cannot be revised by topic and why it is the component families most often buy separately. Practising thirty questions on integration does nothing for it. What works is sitting whole past Paper 3 questions under the real one-hour constraint, then having the script marked line by line against the published mark scheme so that method marks are separated from accuracy marks and the student sees exactly where the argument was abandoned.

For an Ajman student the practical consequence is scheduling. A Paper 3 block needs a protected ninety-minute slot, because an hour-long paper plus review does not fit in an hour. Weekend mornings work better than weekday evenings for this, particularly for families commuting back from Dubai or Sharjah, and a Saturday slot booked in January is a slot that still exists in March.

04

Online hours against an Ajman doorstep: the arithmetic

The comparison most families actually want is not online versus in-home in the abstract. It is this: for the money available, does my child get more Higher Level maths from a specialist on a screen or from whoever can reach Al Mowaihat by seven? The table answers it with the variables that matter in this emirate.

Travel is the first line of the sum and the one most often left out. A visiting tutor reaching Ajman from Dubai in evening traffic spends between forty and seventy minutes each way, and that time is paid for somewhere. It is either inside the hourly rate, which is why in-home bands sit above online ones across every published tier, or it is absorbed by the tutor, in which case the arrangement does not last a full academic year. Neither outcome favours the family.

The second line is the pool. Ajman's Diploma cohorts are small, and Higher Level Analysis is the narrowest maths specialism the Diploma has. The number of people within a twenty-minute drive of Al Rawda who can teach vector planes and Maclaurin series to a student who is on a grade 3 is very small. The number who can do it, are free at the hour your child is awake and alert, and can mark a Paper 3 script properly, is smaller again.

The honest entry on the other side of the ledger is supervision. A tutor in the room can see a phone being picked up and can read a page of working upside down from across a table. Online, that has to be engineered: the camera on the page, the working photographed and sent, a written note after each session so a parent who was still on the Dubai road knows what happened. That is a real design problem and this page would rather name it than pretend it away.

Pricing the course by where the hours go

  • Summer bridge, Year 11 into DP1: a short block, ordinary rates, no deadline pressure
  • Component block, Paper 1 or Paper 3: a stated number of sessions with marked scripts as the evidence
  • Exploration supervision: timed to the school's internal deadlines, counted separately
  • DP2 rescue from February: intensives, peak demand, the narrowest availability of the year
  • Level change: sometimes the cheaper and better answer, and it belongs to the school

An hourly rate is only half a budget. The other half is how many hours, and that depends entirely on which part of Higher Level Analysis has gone wrong. Three families quoted the same AED 250 can end the year having spent very different amounts, because one needed a bridge, one needed a paper and one needed a rescue.

A bridging plan is the cheapest. A student entering DP1 from IGCSE who has never met radians as a working unit, differentiation from first principles or formal proof needs a block of six to eight sessions over a summer, with no deadline pressing and no mock results to react to. Bought at that point, the work is ordinary teaching. Bought in DP2, the same content has to be taught while the class is three topics further on, which doubles the hours and raises the rate because it is now exam-term work.

A component plan is the middle case. A student who is broadly fluent but drops marks on Paper 1 sketching, or who cannot start a Paper 3 question, needs a defined block aimed at that component. This is the easiest thing to price honestly, because the number of sessions can be stated at the start and the evidence of whether it worked is a marked script rather than a feeling.

The rescue is the expensive case and the one to avoid arriving at. A Higher Level student on a grade 3 in February of DP2, with an exploration not yet drafted and three topics unmet, is buying intensives in the weeks when every specialist's diary is already full. Sometimes the honest answer at that point is that a move to Standard Level with the school's agreement is a better purchase than any number of hours, and a tutor who will not say so is not worth the rate.

06

The exploration: twenty marks, five criteria and what support costs

The mathematical exploration carries a fifth of the Higher Level grade and is marked out of twenty against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection, and use of mathematics. The last of those carries six of the twenty marks and is the only criterion where a Higher Level candidate is judged against Higher Level content rather than against process. A competent piece of work built on Standard Level mathematics is capped there, and no amount of polish lifts it.

Most of the money families spend on exploration support is spent at the wrong end. A student who has already written fifteen pages on a topic with no Higher Level mathematics in it is paying for damage repair. The same spend at the topic-selection stage, two or three sessions asking whether the mathematics is reachable, whether the data exists and whether the question can be answered at all, is the highest-value purchase in the whole Higher Level plan.

The limits here are not negotiable and they are not ours. Under IB academic honesty rules the exploration must be the student's own work, and the authenticity declaration your child signs is a real commitment. A tutor may question a topic, teach a technique the student needs, read a draft the student has produced and give feedback against the criteria. A tutor may not supply text, restructure the argument on the student's behalf or produce any part of the finished piece. Any provider offering a finished exploration is offering your child a malpractice investigation.

Practically, exploration supervision is bought as a small number of scheduled sessions rather than as weekly hours, and it has to be timed to the school's internal deadline rather than to the IB's. An Ajman student at a Sharjah school is working to that school's calendar, which is one more reason the plan starts with asking for the school's own dated deadline sheet.

07

Who may legally charge you for a maths hour in Ajman

  • MoHRE private tuition work permit: free of charge, valid two years, applied for through MoHRE's own channels
  • Eligible applicants include school and sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15-18
  • No fine amounts are published, so no page should quote one
  • A centre with premises needs an educational services permit, not an individual tutor permit
  • Paying your child's own class teacher for private lessons is the arrangement to avoid

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The route is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fee and a two working day completion time, applied for through the ministry's app, website and e-services system.

Two consequences follow for a family comparing quotes. First, nobody should be adding a permit fee to your hourly rate, because there is no fee to pass on. Second, individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure for it appears on this page. Asking a tutor directly whether they hold the permit is a reasonable question and a quick one to answer.

There is a separate position for a tutoring operation with premises and staff, which needs an educational services permit as a training institute from the relevant authority rather than an individual tutor permit. The distinction matters when comparing an online one-to-one arrangement with a centre near Ajman City Centre: the centre is a licensed premises with a syllabus pace, while the permit route covers an individual teaching one student at a time.

In Abu Dhabi, press-reported professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct carries a comparable restriction. For an Ajman family the practical reading is simple: a child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to pay, regardless of emirate, and a tutor who offers that arrangement is telling you something about how they read the rules.

08

Spending nothing first: what to try before paying anyone

A page written around cost should be honest about the hours that cost nothing, because some Higher Level problems are solved by them and a provider that pretends otherwise is selling rather than advising. Four things are worth doing before a single dirham changes hands, and together they take a weekend.

Ask the school for the subject's dated deadline sheet and the mark breakdown from the last internal assessment, component by component. A Higher Level student losing marks on Paper 1 and holding up on Paper 2 has a non-calculator algebra problem, which is a different purchase from a student who is weak across both. Without that split, any tutoring plan is a guess, and you will pay for the guessing.

Then read the last marked script with your child, not for the total but for where the working stopped. Higher Level mark schemes pay for method, and the commonest pattern in a Higher Level script is a student who knew the technique and never wrote the line that earned the mark. If that is what the script shows, the fix is habit rather than content, and it is cheaper and faster than it feels.

Third, ask the subject teacher directly what they would do with an extra ninety minutes a week. Teachers answer this question well and are not usually asked it. Fourth, use the free trial lesson as a diagnostic rather than as a sample: send the marked script in advance, ask for a written diagnosis afterwards and decide on the basis of that document. One free trial lesson per student, no card details required, and if the diagnosis says tutoring is not the answer, that is a useful free outcome rather than a failed sale.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ajman

Ajman is compact, but the school run and the commute out of the emirate differ enough between communities to change what time a Higher Level session can realistically start. These are the areas Higher Level enquiries most often come from, with what each one means for scheduling.

Al Rawda

A large established residential district with a mix of villas and low-rise buildings, close to Ajman's main school corridor. Families here can usually start a session at 17:00 because the school bus arrives early, which makes it the cheapest slot to book before evening demand peaks.

Al Mowaihat

Villa communities spread along the Emirates Road side of the emirate, with many households commuting into Dubai or Sharjah. A parent returning at 19:00 cannot supervise a 17:00 session, so Higher Level students here are usually booked at 19:30 or 20:00 on two weekday evenings.

Al Nuaimiya

Dense apartment blocks near Ajman City Centre with a large share of the emirate's school-age population. The practical constraint is a quiet room rather than the hour; Higher Level sessions involve a lot of written working, and a shared bedroom with younger siblings is the most common reason a slot gets moved.

Ajman Corniche

Towers along the waterfront, many of them households working in Dubai on a full commute. Weekend morning sessions are disproportionately popular here, and a Saturday 10:00 slot for Paper 3 practice is both easier to protect and easier to run at full ninety minutes.

Al Jurf

Mixed industrial and residential area close to Ajman University and the Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Street corridor. Shift-working households are common, so Higher Level plans here are often built on a fortnightly ninety-minute session with written marking in between rather than a fixed weekly hour.

Al Zorah and Al Yasmeen

Newer low-density developments on the northern side of the emirate, with longer drives to school and to the Sharjah border. The distance is why online delivery matters more here than almost anywhere else in Ajman: a visiting Higher Level specialist would bill the travel, and there are very few to visit in the first place.

Emirates City and Al Alia

High-rise residential towers towards the Sharjah boundary, heavily occupied by families whose working day ends in Dubai. Internet quality varies between towers and is worth testing in the free trial lesson rather than discovering in week three of a Paper 3 block.

Masfout and Manama

Ajman's two inland exclaves, geographically separated from the coastal emirate and an hour or more from an Ajman school campus. Higher Level maths provision within reach is effectively nil, which makes online one-to-one the only realistic specialist option rather than a preference.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ajman

Ajman

Ajman's private schools sit under federal Ministry of Education supervision rather than an emirate-level authority, and the number offering the full Diploma is small. Higher Level Analysis candidates in the emirate are therefore concentrated in a handful of cohorts, and several study it in a class of fewer than ten.

  • Ajman Academy
  • Pace British School Ajman
  • Habitat School Ajman
  • Woodlem Park School Ajman
  • The City School Ajman
  • Al Ameer English School

Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, within commuting distance

A substantial share of Ajman families cross the border for secondary schooling, which is why a Higher Level plan drawn up for an Ajman address often has to fit a Sharjah school's internal deadlines, mock weeks and exploration submission dates rather than Ajman's.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy
  • Wesgreen International School
  • The American School of Creative Science
  • Delhi Private School Sharjah
  • RAK Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Diploma ecosystem around Ajman; IB Gram has no affiliation with, and claims no endorsement from, any school listed, and families should check current programme offerings on each school's own site or the regulator's school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the evidence, not the worry

Start with three documents: the most recent marked Higher Level script, the component mark breakdown, and the school's dated deadline sheet for the exploration. Those three tell a specialist more in ten minutes than a conversation does in an hour, and they are what makes the first quote a plan rather than a range.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, used as a diagnosis

One free trial lesson per student, with no card details required. The tutor works a problem with your child, probes where the method breaks and writes a short diagnosis afterwards naming the component at fault. You decide after reading that document, not during the call.

  3. 03

Agree the plan and the number

A written plan with the number of sessions, the session length, what marking is included and what the month costs. Higher Level work is usually ninety minutes rather than sixty, and a block aimed at Paper 3 or the exploration is stated separately so you can see what each part of the plan is buying.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching with marked evidence

Sessions run on live video on Gulf Standard Time, with written working photographed and marked between them. After each session you get a short note in plain English: what was taught, what was practised, what is still wrong. That note is the thing to read if you are deciding whether to continue.

  5. 05

Review at four weeks against the script

Four weeks in, the question is whether the marked scripts have moved, not whether everyone feels better. If the component at fault has not shifted, we change tutor, change approach or say plainly that tutoring is not the lever. A review date fixed at the start is what makes that conversation easy to have.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The money question answered first

Published AED bands by provider model, with each figure attributed to the rate card it came from and dated. Three of the providers ranking for this search publish no price at all and two quote in dollars, so a dirham figure with a source attached is the least a UAE family should expect before a first session.

Higher Level specialists, not general maths tutors

Proof by induction, vector planes, Maclaurin series and Paper 3 are Higher Level content with no Standard Level counterpart. The pool of people who teach them well is narrow everywhere and almost non-existent inside Ajman, which is the whole reason the delivery model is online rather than local.

Evidence a parent can check

Timed scripts marked against the published mark scheme, with method marks separated from accuracy marks, and a written note after every session. You are not asked to judge progress by atmosphere; you are given the document the judgement is based on.

Clear academic honesty limits

A tutor here questions a topic, teaches a technique, reads the student's own draft and gives criterion-by-criterion feedback. No part of an exploration is supplied. Providers in this market sell completed internal assessments; that route ends in a malpractice investigation and this one does not touch it.

Scheduling built for the northern emirates

Slots from 17:00 for families whose school bus arrives early, and late evening or weekend morning slots for households commuting back from Dubai and Sharjah. A Higher Level ninety-minute block is easier to protect on a Saturday morning than at 20:30 on a Tuesday, and we will say so.

Honest about availability

Higher Level Analysis specialists are a small pool and the diary tightens sharply before the May session. If nobody suitable is free in your slot we say so and offer the alternatives, rather than filling the hour with a generalist and charging a specialist rate for it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ajman: your questions answered

What does an IB DP math AA HL tutor in Ajman charge per hour?+

Published UAE rates for a qualified online subject tutor run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, and AED 200 to AED 450 for a Diploma specialist, with budget platforms advertising from AED 33 and one premium provider publishing AED 650. Those figures were read from providers' own published material in October 2026 and are market rates rather than an IB Gram price list. Higher Level Analysis sits at the upper half of the specialist band because the course runs to 240 taught hours and carries content, including Paper 3, that no Standard Level course covers. Ask for the hourly figure, the session length and whether marking is included before the first session.

Why is a Higher Level Analysis hour priced above a Standard Level one?+

Three reasons, all structural. The Higher Level course is 240 taught hours against 150 at Standard Level, so there is simply more to teach. It contains material with no Standard Level counterpart at all, including proof by induction, complex numbers in Euler form, Maclaurin series and vector equations of planes. And it carries a third paper worth a fifth of the grade which has to be prepared separately from the topic syllabus. The pool of tutors who can teach all of that confidently is narrower than the pool who can teach Standard Level, and a narrower pool prices higher in every market.

Does a tutor based outside Ajman cost our family more?+

For online lessons, no. Where a tutor sits makes no difference to an hour delivered over live video, and it is why the specialist pool available to an Ajman family online is the same one available to a family in Dubai. For an in-home visit it makes a large difference, because a tutor driving from Dubai or Sharjah into Ajman in evening traffic spends forty to seventy minutes each way and that time is paid for inside the hourly rate. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so the travel question does not arise on our side.

How many Higher Level maths sessions does a term usually come to?+

It depends which problem you are buying against. A summer bridge from IGCSE into DP1 is typically six to eight sessions. A component block aimed at Paper 1 sketching or Paper 3 technique is usually six to ten, which is short enough to state at the outset and judge on marked scripts. Exploration supervision is a handful of scheduled sessions timed to the school's internal deadlines. A DP2 student who is behind on content as well as technique is a different scale of plan, and anyone quoting that without seeing a marked script first is guessing.

Is Paper 3 preparation billed separately from weekly lessons?+

It usually should be, because it is different work. Paper 3 cannot be revised topic by topic: each question invents its own mathematics in the stem and walks the candidate through it in scaffolded parts, so what is being trained is reading an unfamiliar argument under time pressure. That needs whole past questions sat under the real one-hour constraint and then marked line by line, which does not fit inside an ordinary sixty-minute teaching slot. Pricing it as a defined block makes the cost visible and makes it obvious when the block is finished.

What does exploration supervision add to the bill?+

A small number of scheduled sessions rather than a continuing weekly charge, and the cheapest version is bought early. Two or three sessions at the topic-selection stage, spent testing whether the mathematics reaches Higher Level and whether the data exists, prevent the expensive case: a student fifteen pages into a topic with no Higher Level mathematics in it. Feedback is given criterion by criterion against the five criteria and the twenty marks. The student's own work stays their own throughout, which is both an IB requirement and the reason this is supervision rather than production.

Are AA HL tutoring fees in Ajman quoted with VAT included?+

Ask, and ask in writing, because practice varies across this market and we will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as settled fact without a Federal Tax Authority citation to hand. What matters practically is whether the figure you were quoted is the figure you will pay. A quote should state the amount in dirhams, the session length in minutes, whether marking between sessions is inside that figure, and whether any tax is added on top. A provider that cannot answer those four questions in one message is not ready to take your money.

If we can only spend AED 180 an hour, is Higher Level support still worth starting?+

Yes, but spend it narrowly. At that level the realistic purchase is a diagnosis and a single component rather than a standing weekly arrangement across the whole course. Get the marked script read, identify whether the loss is non-calculator algebra, calculator technique or Paper 3 reading, then buy a short block against that one thing and judge it on the next marked script. Fortnightly ninety-minute sessions with written marking in between often beat weekly hours at the same monthly spend, because the marking is where most of the diagnosis actually happens.

Does IB Gram arrange a Higher Level maths tutor to teach at an address in Ajman?+

No. Every UAE lesson is delivered one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service offered only in India. On the merits, that is also the better arrangement for this particular course: a family in Al Rawda or Al Zorah choosing locally is choosing from whoever is within driving distance, while the same family online is choosing from Analysis and Approaches specialists outright. The honest cost of online delivery is supervision, which we handle with the camera on the page, working photographed for marking and a written note to the parent after each session.

Is a pair of students cheaper per head for Higher Level maths?+

Per hour, yes; per outcome, often not. Two Higher Level candidates can share a session productively only if their gaps genuinely overlap, which at Higher Level is less common than at Standard Level because the ways students fail this course diverge sharply. One cannot start a proof; the other knows the content and bleeds accuracy marks. A shared hour then teaches each of them half the time. Where a pair does work well is Paper 3 practice and mark scheme reading, which benefit from two people arguing about the same script.

Do Higher Level maths rates in the northern emirates climb before the May session?+

Rates drift upward across this market as the session approaches, but availability tightens faster than price does. By February the binding constraint for a Higher Level family is usually not the dirham figure but whether any Analysis and Approaches specialist is free at 19:30 on a weekday. The practical implication is that the cheap time to buy Higher Level support and the effective time to buy it are the same time, which is early in DP1 or over the summer before DP2, not after the mock results arrive.

Should we pay for a block of ten lessons up front?+

Only after a free trial and a written diagnosis, and only if the block has a stated purpose. A block aimed at a named component with marked scripts as the evidence is a reasonable thing to commit to, because you can tell at session five whether it is working. A block bought as a general discount on an open-ended arrangement is harder to judge and harder to exit. Ask what happens to unused sessions, whether the slot is held through the school holidays, and what the review point is before paying for any package.

Do we pay for the time a tutor spends marking a Higher Level script?+

Somewhere in the price, yes, and a provider that claims otherwise is either not marking properly or has hidden it in the hourly figure. Marking a full Paper 1 against the published mark scheme, separating method marks from accuracy marks and writing a usable note on it, takes most of an hour. The question to ask is not whether it is paid for but whether it is happening: ask to see a marked script from the first month, with annotations against the mark scheme rather than a tick and a total.

What happens to our plan if no Higher Level Analysis specialist is free in our slot?+

We say so. Higher Level Analysis is the narrowest maths specialism in the Diploma and the diary tightens sharply from January, so there are weeks when the honest answer to a 19:30 weekday request is that nobody suitable is available. The realistic alternatives are a weekend morning slot, a fortnightly ninety-minute session with written marking in between, or a later start date with the work resequenced. Filling the hour with a general maths tutor and charging a specialist rate for it is the one option we will not offer.

What is the cheapest honest first step if our child is on a grade 3 at Higher Level?+

Four free things, in this order. Ask the school for the component-by-component mark breakdown, so you know whether Paper 1 or Paper 2 is the problem. Read the last marked script with your child, looking for where the working stopped rather than at the total. Ask the subject teacher what they would do with an extra ninety minutes a week. Then use the free trial lesson as a diagnostic, sending the script in advance and asking for the diagnosis in writing. If that document says a level change is the better answer, that is a useful free outcome.

Can one tutor cover Higher Level maths and a second Diploma subject for the same student?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, because a single tutor covering Higher Level Analysis and Physics HL removes a scheduling problem and a second invoice. The limit is honest competence: the overlap between people who teach Higher Level Analysis well and those who teach a second Higher Level subject well is not large, and a tutor who says yes to every subject on the list is a warning rather than a convenience. Where the double is not available, two specialists on alternating evenings is the better purchase.

Start with the marked script and a free trial lesson

If your child is taking Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level in Ajman and the grade is not where it should be, the first useful step costs nothing. Send the most recent marked script, the component mark breakdown and the school's dated deadline sheet for the exploration. The trial lesson that follows is free, one per student, with no card details required, and it ends in a written diagnosis naming the component at fault and the number of sessions a plan would take. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and if the diagnosis says tutoring is not the lever, we will tell you that instead.
