Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 Tutor in Ajman

A Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 tutor in Ajman should be able to show you, on paper, what changed. This page is about that evidence: the diagnostic paper that starts the work, the four categories every lost mark falls into, the artefact each week is supposed to produce, and the monthly record a parent is entitled to read rather than be told about. It also sets out what a 0606 tutor may and may not do with your child's own work. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

  • Work starts with a timed paper marked against the published scheme
  • Every lost mark classified: knowledge, method, notation or timing
  • One marked artefact out of each session, kept and comparable month to month
  • A free 50-minute trial lesson, used as the first diagnostic

IB & IGCSE in Ajman

A report grade is an opinion; a marked 0606 script is data

Most 0606 enquiries from Ajman begin with a number that cannot be acted on. The report says 5, or says 'working below expectation', and that sentence is a professional judgement rather than a measurement. It does not say whether the student cannot differentiate, can differentiate but writes it in a form that forfeits the accuracy mark, or can do both and ran out of time on the second paper. Those are three entirely different problems with three entirely different repairs, and the only document that distinguishes them is a marked script.

So the work here starts with one. A full timed paper at the right level, marked against the published scheme rather than ticked, with each lost mark classified into one of four categories: a knowledge gap, a method gap, a notation forfeit, or a timing loss. That classification is the whole diagnosis. A candidate losing eighteen marks to notation and timing needs a fortnight of discipline work, not a term of re-teaching, and a family that funds the term instead has bought something expensive that will not move the grade.

0606 is unusually well suited to this way of working. There is no coursework, no practical, no tiered entry and no internal mark, which means every single piece of evidence about the student is written mathematics produced under conditions that resemble the examination. Two papers of equal weight, a grade range running from A* to E, and a syllabus of fifteen topic areas that includes the first calculus most of these students have ever met. Confirm the component structure and timings for your child's exam year at cambridgeinternational.org.

The Ajman context shapes the evidence in one specific way worth naming. Many households here have children at campuses in Ajman and across the Sharjah border at the same time, and 0606 is an optional second maths qualification that only some of those campuses enter candidates for. That means the first evidence to gather is not a mark at all: it is whether the entry exists, which paper series it names, and whether the school teaches the subject or expects the student to self-study it alongside Extended 0580. Families discover the third case surprisingly often.

Everything below is built around what can be shown rather than asserted. There is a loss ledger, a reading of how the mark scheme awards method and accuracy credit separately, a ten-week plan with the artefact each week should produce, and a statement of what a monthly progress record ought to contain. Tuition is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram does not send tutors to addresses in Ajman, because home visiting is a service it runs only in India. Where in-home rates appear here they are the market's published prices, quoted so the comparison is honest.

At a glance

  • 0606 is two papers of equal weight, with no coursework and no Core or Extended tier
  • The grade range runs A* to E, so a weak candidate has a floor as well as a ceiling
  • Every lost mark is classified as knowledge, method, notation or timing before anything is taught
  • Method and accuracy credit are awarded separately, which is why working matters as much as answers
  • The first thing to verify in Ajman is whether a 0606 entry exists at all

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

0606 sits beside rather than inside a student's main maths course, and the evidence a family should expect differs at each stage of the route. The notes below describe what each stage produces that can actually be read.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Usually Year 11

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics 0606

A separate qualification examined by two written papers of equal weight, normally taken alongside Extended Mathematics 0580 by stronger candidates. The syllabus covers functions, quadratic functions, equations and inequalities, indices and surds, factors of polynomials, simultaneous equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, straight-line graphs, circular measure, trigonometry, permutations and combinations, series, vectors in two dimensions, differentiation and integration, and kinematics. There is no coursework and no tiered entry.

In Ajman the subject is offered unevenly. Some campuses teach it as a timetabled course, some run it as a lunchtime or after-school class, and some enter candidates who are expected to cover most of it independently. The evidence to gather first is which of those three your child is in, because a self-study candidate needs the content taught and the examination technique built, which is roughly double the work of consolidating a taught course.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580, Extended tier

The course 0606 assumes. Extended 0580 algebra, trigonometry and graph work are the floor rather than the target, and a candidate who reached a grade 6 at Extended by leaning on the calculator paper will find 0606 unforgiving. The useful evidence here is the Extended script rather than the Extended grade: a student with strong algebraic manipulation and weak geometry copes with 0606 far better than one with the reverse profile.

An Ajman household running both subjects should expect two separate diagnostics rather than one. The papers reward different things, and a single assessment covering both tends to flatter the student in whichever subject it leans towards. Two diagnostics also make the monthly record readable, because movement in one subject stops being hidden inside an average.

IB Diploma Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, and A Level Mathematics

What 0606 is a bridge to. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and A Level Mathematics both open with differentiation and integration as assumed language, and a student arriving with genuine 0606 calculus starts the first term reading rather than decoding. The evidence of a genuine 0606 is specific: correct notation, exact answers left in exact form, and derivatives of trigonometric functions handled in radians without prompting.

No IB session or results date is published on this page, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking; confirm any Diploma date with the school's coordinator or on ibo.org. What can be said is that UAE schools sit the May session and that a student who banked 0606 properly in Year 11 needs noticeably fewer paid hours in Year 12 than one who was carried through it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The fifteen topic areas of 0606 do not fail in the same way, and the evidence that a topic is secure differs from topic to topic. The notes below give what secure work looks like on paper and the error that recurs when it is not.

Functions

Papers 1 and 2

Domain, range, composite and inverse functions, modulus functions and their graphs. Secure work shows the domain written as an inequality rather than described in words, and an inverse found by rearranging with the variable swapped at the correct stage. The recurring error is an inverse quoted with the original variable, which looks like a slip and is marked as one.

Quadratic functions and the discriminant

Papers 1 and 2

Completing the square, maximum and minimum points, and conditions on the discriminant for real, equal or no roots. Secure work states the discriminant condition as an inequality before substituting. The commonest loss is solving a discriminant equation when the question asked for a range, which forfeits the whole mark allocation even with correct algebra underneath.

Indices, surds and logarithms

Papers 1 and 2

Laws of indices, surd manipulation, exponential and logarithmic functions, and solving equations using logarithms. Secure work rationalises denominators without prompting and leaves exact answers exact. The recurring forfeit is a decimal answer where the scheme wanted a surd or a logarithm, which is an accuracy mark lost on an otherwise perfect method.

Polynomials and simultaneous equations

Papers 1 and 2

The factor and remainder theorems, cubic factorisation, and simultaneous equations where one is non-linear. Secure work sets out the substitution explicitly rather than jumping to a quadratic. Students who work mentally lose the method credit and then, having no written line to check, frequently lose the accuracy mark as well.

Straight-line graphs and transformations to linear form

Papers 1 and 2

Gradients, intercepts, and converting relationships into a linear form so a graph can be used to find constants. Secure work names what is plotted on each axis before drawing anything. The recurring error is plotting the raw variables and then reading constants off a curve, which earns nothing however neat the graph.

Circular measure and radians

Papers 1 and 2

Arc length, sector area and problems set in radians rather than degrees. This is the first place most candidates meet radians as a working unit rather than a curiosity, and it is the single most reliable source of lost marks in the subject. Secure work shows the calculator mode checked and angles substituted in radians; the error is a correct method evaluated in degrees.

Trigonometry: identities and equations

Papers 1 and 2

The three reciprocal functions, the Pythagorean identities, and solving trigonometric equations within a stated interval. Secure work lists every solution in the interval rather than the first one found. The usual loss is a candidate who solves correctly and then reports one root where the scheme expected three, which is most of the question gone.

Differentiation

Papers 1 and 2

Derivatives of polynomials, exponentials, logarithms and trigonometric functions, the product, quotient and chain rules, tangents and normals, stationary points and rates of change. Secure work states which rule is being used before applying it. The recurring forfeit is a stationary point found and then not classified, because the question asked whether it was a maximum or a minimum and the answer stopped early.

Integration and areas

Papers 1 and 2

Integration of the standard functions, definite integrals, and areas under and between curves. Secure work writes the limits into the integral before evaluating and keeps the constant of integration where the question is indefinite. The commonest losses are an omitted constant and a negative area reported as negative rather than interpreted.

Kinematics, series and permutations

Papers 1 and 2

Displacement, velocity and acceleration via calculus; binomial expansion and arithmetic and geometric series; permutations and combinations. Kinematics is where calculus becomes a story, and secure work labels which function is being differentiated or integrated and why. Series questions are lost on the term number rather than the method, and the counting topics are lost on whether order matters.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of running 0606 support, separated by how much of the syllabus the school has actually taught. All three run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time and begin with a free 50-minute trial lesson used as a diagnostic.

Consolidation alongside a taught course

For a student whose school timetables 0606. One session a week following the school's teaching order, with the session's artefact being a marked written answer on that week's content. The record builds into a topic-by-topic picture across a term, and the value is early detection: a notation habit caught in October costs one session and the same habit caught in March costs a grade.

  • Follows the school scheme rather than a generic syllabus order
  • One marked written artefact out of every session
  • Loss categories recorded per topic, not as a single score
  • Compared against the first diagnostic at week six

Teaching a self-study entry

For a candidate entered for 0606 whose school expects them to cover it largely alone. This is a teaching load rather than a consolidation load, and it needs the content delivered as well as the technique built. The honest version of this plan runs two sessions a week from the autumn, and the honest version of the conversation says so before anything is booked.

  • Syllabus sequenced so calculus arrives with the algebra it needs
  • Written work set between sessions and marked before the next one
  • A timed paper every four weeks, not only at the end
  • A stated point at which the plan is judged viable or abandoned

A diagnostic block before the series

Six to ten sessions bought after a mock, aimed only at the losses the marked script names. This is the narrowest purchase and the one where the loss ledger earns its keep, because a candidate forfeiting marks to radians, exact form and unclassified stationary points can recover a great deal in a fortnight without new content.

  • Opens with a full timed paper under examination conditions
  • Work ordered by marks lost rather than by syllabus order
  • Notation and exact-form discipline drilled explicitly
  • Closes with a second timed paper for a like-for-like comparison

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ajman

01

The first diagnostic, and the four categories every lost mark falls into

The first session produces a marked paper rather than a plan. A timed 0606 paper, sat under conditions, then marked against the published scheme with each lost mark assigned to one of four categories. A knowledge gap means the student does not hold the content. A method gap means they hold it but cannot structure a solution. A notation forfeit means the mathematics was right and the presentation cost the mark. A timing loss means the question was never attempted.

The reason this matters is that the four categories have wildly different repair costs. Notation forfeits and timing losses together often account for a fifth of a weak script, and both are discipline rather than teaching: two or three sessions of explicit drill, then consistency. Knowledge gaps are the expensive category, because calculus cannot be installed in a fortnight. A family told only that their child is 'weak at maths' has no way to know which of these they are funding.

The second reason is that it makes progress measurable. Once losses are classified, the monthly record can show that notation forfeits fell from eleven marks to two while knowledge gaps stayed flat, which is a precise statement about what the hours achieved and what they did not. Nobody can promise a grade, and a provider who offers one should be questioned closely; what can be promised is that the evidence will be shown either way. The third reason is that it changes what a family buys. A ledger dominated by forfeits points at a short, cheap block of discipline work and an early review; a ledger dominated by knowledge gaps points at a longer plan that should start now rather than after the next mock. Both are defensible purchases. Guessing between them is not.

Reading a 0606 mark scheme the way the examiner reads it

Cambridge awards method credit and accuracy credit separately, and once a family understands that, a great deal of apparently mysterious marking becomes obvious. A student can reach a wrong final answer and still collect most of a question if the method was stated and followed. A student can reach the right answer and lose marks if nothing on the page shows how. This is why 'he knew how to do it' and 'he got the marks' are different claims about the same script.

The practical consequence is that working is the product, not the answer. A differentiation question asks for the derivative and then for the stationary points and then for their nature, and each of those is a separate allocation. Stopping after the coordinates forfeits the classification mark even though the student could have done it in ten seconds. Students who work quickly and tidily in their heads are the most exposed, because their scripts contain the least evidence.

The same logic governs exact form. Where the scheme specifies a surd, a logarithm or a multiple of a trigonometric constant, a decimal is a forfeit rather than an approximation. A tutor who marks a student's work the way the scheme marks it, including the forfeits, is giving the student the single piece of information school marking most often softens. Cambridge publishes its schemes on its own site; they are referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied as downloads. One further habit follows from all this. A student who learns to read the mark allocation printed beside each question starts to budget effort against it, which quietly fixes the timing problem as well, because a six-mark question stops receiving a two-mark answer and a two-mark question stops receiving a paragraph.

Ten weeks of evidence: what should exist on paper by each Friday

A plan a parent cannot audit is not a plan. The version used here names what should physically exist at the end of each week, which turns 'we are making progress' into a document somebody can read. The first week produces the marked diagnostic and the loss ledger. The second and third produce the notation and timing repairs, because those recover marks fastest and give a demoralised student something immediate. Only then does the plan touch calculus.

Weeks four to seven are the content weeks, sequenced so the algebra a topic needs arrives before the topic does. Differentiation before kinematics. Logarithm laws before exponential equations. Circular measure before the trigonometric derivatives that assume radians. Each of those weeks produces a marked written answer on the new content and a short retrieval check on the previous week's, so the record shows retention rather than only coverage.

Weeks eight to ten produce a second timed paper, a comparison against the first by loss category, and a decision. If the ledger has moved, the plan continues to the series. If notation and timing have closed but knowledge gaps have not, the honest conclusion is that more weeks are needed and the family is told the realistic number. If nothing has moved, the approach changes rather than the hours increasing. That decision point is written into the plan at the start rather than improvised in March. Two practical notes on running this in an Ajman household. The retrieval checks are short, five or six minutes, and they are the part that stops week four's work evaporating by week eight. And the artefact is kept rather than discarded, in a single folder, because the comparison at week ten is only meaningful if the earlier work still exists to compare against.

04

Where a candidate's 0580 habits betray them in 0606

0606 assumes Extended 0580 and then punishes the shortcuts that worked there. The first is calculator dependence. Extended candidates who leaned on the calculator paper arrive with weak surd and index manipulation, and 0606 asks for exact answers constantly, so a habit that cost nothing in Year 10 costs several marks per paper in Year 11. The evidence is distinctive: correct methods ending in a decimal where the scheme wanted a surd.

The second is working in degrees. Every angle a 0580 candidate has ever handled was in degrees, and 0606 expects radians in circular measure and in the calculus of trigonometric functions. The marked scripts show this as a cluster rather than as isolated errors: a whole group of questions failing with faultless methods underneath. It is one habit, and it is fixed by writing the calculator mode at the top of the working rather than by re-teaching the topic.

The third is answering less than the question asked. 0580 questions tend to be single-step; 0606 questions chain. Find the derivative, find the stationary points, determine their nature, then sketch. A student trained on single-step questions stops after step two and loses the rest, and the script looks like a knowledge gap when it is a reading habit. This is why the diagnostic classifies losses rather than counting them: the repair for a reading habit is a fortnight, and the repair for a knowledge gap is a term. The fourth habit is rounding too early. Extended papers tolerate it; 0606 chains questions, so a value rounded in part one arrives distorted in part three and costs accuracy marks twice. Carrying exact values through the working and rounding only at the point the question asks for a value is a single rule, and it is one more mark recovery that requires no new content at all.

05

What a parent should be shown each month, and what to refuse

A monthly record should contain four things and they are all auditable. The marked work from the month, with the examiner-style annotations visible. The loss ledger updated, so categories can be compared against the diagnostic. The list of topics covered against the syllabus, so coverage and retention are distinguishable. And a plain statement of what has not moved, which is the part most progress reports quietly omit.

What to refuse is equally specific. Refuse a percentage with no denominator: a figure describing improvement without saying out of how many marks, on which paper, under what conditions, is not information. Refuse a star rating or a satisfaction score, particularly one that cannot be traced to countable, dated, attributable reviews. Refuse any claim about a predicted grade presented as a commitment, because nobody can guarantee an outcome and the ones who do are selling something other than teaching.

Refuse, too, the comparison against an unnamed average. Several providers in this market describe their students as outperforming some unspecified cohort, and no page carries the number, the date or the method behind the claim. A statement about your child's script is checkable; a statement about an anonymous population is not. The useful question to ask any tutor, including this one, is simply: show me the marked paper and tell me which marks moved. There is one more thing a good record contains, and it is the least comfortable. A note of the sessions where nothing much happened, because the student arrived exhausted after a late school run or because a topic needed re-teaching that was supposed to be revision. A record with no bad weeks in it has been curated, and a curated record cannot be used to make a decision in March about whether the plan is working.

06

What the hourly rate does and does not include

Start with the part nobody asks about: marking time. An evidence-led plan means somebody marks a written answer between sessions, annotates the forfeits and updates a ledger, and that work happens outside the hour the family is paying for. When comparing rates across this market, the first question is therefore whether marking between sessions sits inside the quoted figure or outside it, because two apparently similar rates can describe quite different amounts of work.

With that framing, the published bands read differently. Budget and university-student online tuition is advertised from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52; at that level, marking against a published scheme is rarely part of the offer. Qualified online subject tutors publish roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. Named IB and IGCSE specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270, and premium or examiner-led tuition reaches AED 500 to 650 and above, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

In-home visits run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors AED 200 to 500. For a subject as specialist as 0606, the in-home option in Ajman has a particular weakness: the pool narrows to people who have taught this syllabus and will drive to your district at your hour, and that intersection is very small. Every figure here was published by the named provider and collected in October 2026; they are market rates rather than an IB Gram price list, and any provider should be asked for the date and source of its own.

07

The line a 0606 tutor does not cross

0606 has no coursework, which removes the worst temptation in this market before it arises. There is no internal assessment anyone could improve on a student's behalf. What remains is school-set work: problem sets, mock papers, revision tasks that a teacher may collect. The boundary there is the same as everywhere else in the system, and it is worth stating because one operator found in this market sells completed internal assessments outright, which is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student at risk.

A tutor may teach the content, work a parallel problem that is not the set question, explain why an approach fails, mark the student's own attempt against the published criteria and say exactly which mark was forfeited and why. A tutor does not write the solutions a student submits. In an evidence-led plan that line is not a compliance statement; it is structural. The entire record depends on the work being the student's, because a ledger built from somebody else's mathematics measures nothing at all.

The same applies to materials. Cambridge syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade thresholds belong to Cambridge, are published on its own site, and are referenced and linked rather than reproduced or distributed. And no tutor here is described as a Cambridge examiner unless that status can be evidenced, because examiner status is routinely used in this market to imply access to marking standards or paper content that nobody outside the board has.

08

Verifying the entry before buying the hours

The most expensive mistake in 0606 is tutoring a candidate who was never entered. It happens because the subject is optional, the decision sits with the department, and in some Ajman schools the conversation with parents never takes place. The document that settles it is the Cambridge statement of entry, which carries the syllabus code and the series. A school report does not, and a teacher's verbal assurance in October has been wrong often enough to be worth checking.

Entry deadlines sit months before the papers, which is the second thing to establish. Ajman centres enter candidates for one of two Cambridge series, June or November, and the choice between them is really a decision about resits. A June entry closes in the spring, with the school's mock window ahead of it, and the grade arrives in August. A November entry closes in the summer, which means a June result that needs improving has to be acted on within weeks of the grade landing rather than at the end of the calendar year, and 0606 is a syllabus where that window matters because the content a student has to rebuild is narrow and identifiable from the component breakdown. Cambridge also runs a February and early-March sitting, but it is offered in India only and is not available to a candidate in Ajman. The exact entry date for either UAE series is on the statement of entry the school issues, not on a tutoring site.

Two further checks belong here. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a timetable for each; its exams officers' guide states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong one was used. And if any of your child's subjects sit with Pearson, note that Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026, and publishes provisional timetables that may be revised, so link the live official timetable rather than trusting a quoted date.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ajman

What differs across Ajman for a 0606 family is not travel time but whether the school enters candidates at all and what support surrounds the entry. These notes are about that, because it is the first piece of evidence worth gathering.

Al Nuaimiya

Central Ajman with several long-established campuses. These are the schools most likely to run a timetabled Additional Maths group, which means a candidate here is usually consolidating taught content rather than learning it from scratch.

Al Rawda

Villa and apartment districts with children spread across Ajman and Sharjah schools. A household running two school calendars should check each child's entry separately; 0606 appears on one statement of entry surprisingly often while the sibling's campus does not offer it.

Al Jurf

Mixed residential near the university area. Families here frequently ask whether a university-student tutor can cover 0606, and the test is the same as anywhere: ask to see how they would mark a stationary-point question before agreeing anything.

Al Mowaihat

Inland villa communities with a long school run. The practical effect on evidence is scheduling: a session that starts late and finishes tired produces a weaker written artefact, so the slot matters to the record as well as to the family.

Al Helio

Established residential districts with a broad spread of school choices across two emirates. Where a student is self-studying 0606 alongside a taught 0580 course, the weekly artefact is the only thing standing between that plan and a silent collapse in February.

Al Zahya and Al Tallah

Newer development along the Emirates Road belt, closest to the Sharjah boundary. Most parents here work south and arrive late, so the realistic 0606 slot is after 7pm and the written work has to be set for the following day rather than the same evening.

Emirates City and Al Alia

High-rise residential towers near the border. Few resident teachers have taught 0606, which is a genuinely specialist syllabus, so local availability is thin and the selection question becomes which specialist is free rather than who is nearby.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ajman

Ajman campuses that may enter Additional Maths candidates

Whether 0606 appears at all is a departmental decision and it varies year to year. Ask whether it is timetabled, run as a club, or expected to be self-studied, because the answer changes how many paid hours the subject needs.

Before any teaching, the Cambridge statement of entry or the school's written confirmation is checked for the syllabus code and the series. 0606 is optional and some Ajman campuses do not enter candidates, so this is the one check that can save a household an entire plan. If the entry is not yet made, the question becomes when the deadline falls.

  2. 02

Sit the diagnostic in the free 50-minute trial

The trial lesson is a working session. The student attempts a short set covering functions, a differentiation chain and a circular-measure question, and the tutor marks it live against the published criteria, classifying each lost mark as knowledge, method, notation or timing. That ledger is the plan. No payment is arranged before this session takes place.

  3. 03

Fix the slot late enough to produce usable work

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time and are set late enough for a household where a parent drives back from Sharjah or Dubai, but not so late that the written artefact is produced by an exhausted student. Where the only viable hour is after 8pm, the work is set for the following day rather than the same evening.

  4. 04

Produce one marked artefact every week

Each session ends with a written answer that is marked against the scheme between sessions, with forfeits annotated rather than corrected silently. The marks are recorded by loss category and by topic, never as a single score, so the record shows what moved and what did not. That marking happens outside the paid hour.

  5. 05

Review at week six, decide at week ten

At week six the ledger is compared against the diagnostic. At week ten a second timed paper is sat and the two ledgers are set side by side. If the plan is working it continues; if notation and timing have closed but knowledge gaps have not, the realistic remaining time is stated plainly rather than sold as more sessions.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The diagnosis is a document, not an impression

Work starts with a timed paper marked against the published scheme and a ledger classifying every lost mark as knowledge, method, notation or timing. That document is what the plan is built from and what progress is measured against, and a parent can read it rather than take a summary on trust.

Marking happens outside the paid hour

Written work set in a session is marked between sessions, with forfeits annotated the way the scheme annotates them. That is the part of an evidence-led plan that costs time rather than showing up on an invoice, and it is the first thing to ask about when comparing one published rate with another in this market.

Notation and timing are treated as recoverable marks

A fifth of a weak 0606 script is often forfeited rather than missed: decimals where exact form was wanted, stationary points unclassified, questions never attempted. Those are discipline repairs measured in sessions, not terms, and funding them first gives a family visible movement before any expensive content work begins.

The entry is verified before the hours are sold

0606 is optional and some Ajman campuses do not enter candidates for it. Checking the syllabus code on the statement of entry is a five-minute task that occasionally ends the conversation entirely, and doing it first is the difference between a tutoring plan and a costly misunderstanding.

No unverifiable numbers appear anywhere

No satisfaction percentage, no self-asserted rating, no comparison against an unnamed average, and no predicted grade offered as a commitment. The AED figures on this page were published by named providers and collected in October 2026 and are market rates, not an IB Gram price list.

The work stays the student's own

A tutor teaches, marks and explains; a tutor does not produce the solutions a student submits. In an evidence-led plan that is structural rather than decorative, because a progress record built from somebody else's mathematics measures nothing. Cambridge materials are referenced and linked, never reproduced or distributed.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ajman: your questions answered

How will I know whether 0606 tutoring is actually working?+

By comparing two marked papers and two loss ledgers. The first timed paper is sat in the opening week and every lost mark is classified as a knowledge gap, a method gap, a notation forfeit or a timing loss. A second paper is sat around week ten and the two ledgers are placed side by side. That shows, in marks, which categories closed and which did not. It is a far more useful statement than a percentage improvement, because it tells you what the hours bought and what still needs buying. Nobody can promise a particular grade, and the evidence is shown whether it is flattering or not.

Why does my son lose marks when his final answers are right?+

Because Cambridge awards method credit and accuracy credit separately, and a script that shows no working contains no evidence for the method marks. A student who differentiates mentally and writes only the coordinates of a stationary point has forfeited the mark for naming the rule and the mark for classifying the point, even though he could do both. Quick, tidy workers are the most exposed to this. The repair is presentation discipline rather than content: state the rule, show the substitution, answer every part of the question. It takes two or three sessions and recovers marks without teaching anything new.

What is the single most common 0606 error in marked scripts?+

Evaluating a correct trigonometric or circular-measure method with the calculator in degrees. 0606 is the first course most of these students meet where radians are a working unit rather than a curiosity, and the error shows up as a cluster: a whole group of questions failing with faultless methods underneath. It looks like a knowledge gap and is a habit. The fix is to write the calculator mode at the top of the working on every question until it is automatic, which is one session plus a fortnight of consistency, and it is usually the fastest mark recovery available in the subject.

Does Additional Maths 0606 have a Core and Extended tier?+

No. Unlike Mathematics 0580, Physics 0625 and Chemistry 0620, Additional Mathematics has no tiered entry: every candidate sits the same two papers. The grade range runs from A* to E, which has a consequence worth understanding. There is a floor as well as a ceiling, so a candidate who is genuinely out of their depth does not fail into a lower tier, they simply fall below the awarded range. That makes the viability question honest and early: a diagnostic paper in the autumn tells a family whether the entry is realistic while there is still time to act on the answer.

My daughter's Ajman school entered her for 0606 but barely teaches it. What now?+

That is a teaching load, not a consolidation load, and the plan has to say so. Some campuses enter candidates who are expected to cover most of the syllabus independently alongside Extended 0580, and a household that books one session a week for consolidation will be funding something that cannot work. The honest version is roughly two sessions a week from the autumn, with the syllabus sequenced so the algebra arrives before the calculus, written work marked between sessions, and a stated point at which the plan is judged viable or abandoned. Establish which of the three situations she is in before agreeing any number of hours.

How many weeks does calculus actually take from a standing start?+

On marked evidence from this market, differentiation to a usable standard takes four to six weeks of weekly work with marked practice in between, and integration adds a further three or four. Those numbers assume the algebra underneath is secure; where indices, surds and function manipulation are weak, add two weeks at the front because calculus taught on shaky algebra does not retain. Kinematics sits last because it is calculus applied to a story, and it is quick once the derivative work is automatic. A diagnostic in the first week tells you which of those timelines is yours.

What should a monthly progress report on 0606 contain?+

Four things. The marked work from the month with examiner-style annotations visible. The loss ledger updated so categories can be compared against the first diagnostic. The topics covered set against the syllabus, so coverage and retention are distinguishable. And a plain statement of what has not moved. Refuse a percentage with no denominator, a star rating that cannot be traced to countable dated reviews, a comparison against an unnamed average, and any predicted grade presented as a commitment. A statement about your child's script is checkable; a statement about an anonymous cohort is not.

Does the quoted hourly rate include marking between sessions?+

Ask, because this is where two apparently similar rates describe different amounts of work. An evidence-led plan means somebody marks written answers against the published scheme, annotates forfeits and updates a ledger, and that happens outside the hour the family pays for. In the published bands, budget online tuition runs roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour and rarely includes scheme-accurate marking; qualified online subject tutors publish about AED 150 to 300; named specialists AED 200 to 450 and above. Those were collected from named providers in October 2026 and are market rates, not an IB Gram price list.

Is a university-student tutor enough for Additional Maths?+

Sometimes for the algebra, rarely for the examination technique, and the way to find out is a practical test rather than a credential check. Ask the candidate how they would mark a stationary-point question: a tutor who knows the subject will mention the rule statement, the derivative set to zero, the coordinates and the classification as separate allocations. One who talks only about getting the right answer has not marked against a scheme. Budget tuition at the published AED 45 to 150 band genuinely helps with routine and confidence; 0606 marks are mostly lost in places that need somebody who has marked the paper.

Can one tutor teach both 0580 Extended and 0606?+

Often yes, and it is usually the sensible arrangement because the subjects share algebra and a tutor who sees both scripts spots a habit travelling between them. The condition is two separate diagnostics rather than one shared assessment, because a single paper covering both tends to flatter the student in whichever subject it leans towards, and two ledgers keep movement in one subject from hiding inside an average. Scheduling the two sessions back to back on one evening also protects the rest of the week, which most Ajman households value more than a small discount.

How do I check the 0606 entry really exists?+

Read the Cambridge statement of entry, which carries the syllabus code and the series. A school report does not, and a verbal assurance in October has been wrong often enough to be worth verifying in writing. Entry deadlines also sit months before the papers, and in Ajman the entry is for either the June series or the November one; the February and early-March sitting that appears in a lot of search results is run for India only. A June entry closes in the spring and a November entry in the summer, so the useful question to the exams officer is narrow: when does the final entry for our series close, which tier and syllabus code is my child down for, and is the entry actually submitted. Ask it in writing while there is still time to change the answer.

Which Cambridge timetable applies to my child's centre?+

The one for the administrative zone the centre is allocated to. Cambridge places every centre in one of six zones and publishes a separate timetable for each, and its exams officers' guide states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone, adding that Cambridge cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after the wrong version was used. Ask the exams officer which zone applies and get it in writing. For any Pearson subjects, note that Pearson publishes provisional timetables that may be revised, so work from the live official timetable rather than a quoted date.

Will a tutor write my son's problem-set solutions for him?+

No, and in an evidence-led plan that line is structural rather than decorative. A tutor may teach the content, work a parallel problem that is not the set question, explain why an approach fails, and mark your son's own attempt against the published criteria, naming exactly which mark was forfeited. A tutor does not produce the solutions he submits, because a progress ledger built from somebody else's mathematics measures nothing and the grade it predicts collapses in the examination room. One operator in this market sells completed assessed work outright; that is a malpractice risk for the student and nothing here resembles it.

Is 0606 worth taking if my child is applying to a UAE university?+

It can help as preparation but it is not a requirement, and nothing about tutoring is required for admission or for certificate equivalency. For the British track, the published Ministry of Education equivalency rule is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. 0606 can form part of the five but no particular subject is specified. Equivalency is run by the Ministry and the emirate's attestation channel; IB Gram neither performs nor guarantees any part of it.

What if no 0606 specialist is free at the hour we need?+

You will be told before anything is booked. Additional Mathematics is a genuinely specialist syllabus and the number of tutors who have taught it and marked against its schemes is small, so a particular weekday evening may be unavailable, especially the post-7pm slots most Ajman commuting households need. The options are a different hour, a short wait for one to open, or a named specialist based outside the UAE teaching on Gulf Standard Time, disclosed in advance with the rate. What you will not be offered is a general maths tutor presented as a 0606 specialist.

Bring the script, not the report card

The useful first conversation about 0606 starts with a piece of marked mathematics. Send the most recent paper your daughter sat, along with the statement of entry showing the syllabus code and series, and take the free 50-minute trial lesson. That session produces a timed set, marked live against the published criteria, with each lost mark classified as a knowledge gap, a method gap, a notation forfeit or a timing loss. From there the number of weeks required is an arithmetic question rather than a guess, and you will be told if it does not fit the time left. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
