IB & IGCSE in Al Manaseer

Start with the monthly number, not the hourly one

Almost every tutoring conversation in Abu Dhabi begins with an hourly rate, and almost every budgeting mistake follows from it. An hourly figure tells you very little on its own. What a family in Al Manaseer actually commits to is a monthly amount, repeated for eight or nine months, sometimes twice over because there are two children in two curricula. That is the number worth establishing first, and it is the number nobody publishes.

So here are the published monthly figures from this market. Around AED 799 a month buys eight online sessions. In-home packages built from four two-hour visits are advertised at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month. Bestimate's 2026 estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A Year 13 Higher Level subject sits in that top band, and a household supporting one Diploma child and one IGCSE child can reach AED 2,500 a month without anyone having made an extravagant decision.

Those are market figures published by providers, not an IB Gram price list. They are useful because they let you sanity-check a quote. If a provider will not give you a monthly number for a defined plan, you are not comparing like with like, and three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all while two quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. Insisting on a monthly figure is the one move that makes three quotes comparable.

The next thing to understand is where the money goes rather than how much of it there is. In-home one-to-one visits in the UAE are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for comparable teaching delivered online. The difference is not a quality premium. It is petrol, parking and a tutor's evening spent crossing Abu Dhabi island twice. Al Manaseer sits between Al Khalidiyah and Al Bateen, which is a convenient address and still a thirty-minute round trip from most places a specialist might live.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; visits to a family's address are a service we run only in India. Al Manaseer lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. What that removes from the invoice is the journey, and what it adds is a tutor chosen for the subject rather than the postcode. The rest of this page is about the four places a two-curriculum household loses money, what to send when you ask three providers for a quote, and the two money questions nobody in this market answers straight.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost behaves differently in each programme stage, and an Al Manaseer household often has children in two of them at once. Knowing which stage is expensive and which is cheap changes where the money should go.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The cheapest stage to intervene in and the one most often skipped. Criterion-based reports rarely look alarming, so a gap that would cost a few hundred dirhams to close in Year 9 goes untouched and reappears as a specialist-rate problem in Year 12. Sessions here sit in the lower market bands because the teaching required is less specialised.

Al Manaseer families with a child in MYP usually have them at a campus on Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island or along Al Raha, and the Personal Project in the final MYP year is the point at which families first discover what an internally assessed task does to a household timetable.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

The middle band in cost terms, with eight or nine subjects competing for the same budget. The decisive spend is early: a Year 10 tier block at AED 150 to 300 an hour prevents a Year 11 recovery programme at the same rate for three times as many hours. Spending concentrated in April of Year 11 is the most expensive pattern available.

Abu Dhabi candidates sit the Cambridge June and November series, with the February and March series offered to India only. Entry is submitted by the school months ahead, so a tier the family wanted to change has usually stopped being changeable by the time the budget conversation happens.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The expensive stage. Six subjects, an Internal Assessment in each, plus the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, and Higher Level specialists sit at the top of the published bands at AED 200 to 450 and above. Bestimate's exam-year monthly estimate of AED 1,000 to 2,000 plus is describing exactly this student.

Diploma students from Al Manaseer travel to IB campuses across Abu Dhabi, where Higher Level cohorts are small. Scarcity at the top of the market is real, which is why booking a specialist in September costs less than finding one in March, when the people with capacity are those nobody else wanted.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Cost per useful hour varies sharply by subject and component. These are the ones Al Manaseer households most often buy, with a note on where the money works hardest.

IB Mathematics AA and AI

HL and SL

Higher Level sits at the top of the published rate bands because the teaching pool is small. The best value inside the subject is non-calculator technique and early exploration work, both cheap in hours and heavily weighted in marks.

IGCSE Mathematics

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Mid-band rates and the clearest early-spending case in the whole set. A Year 10 block aimed at the tier decision costs a fraction of a Year 11 recovery programme and has a larger effect on the final grade.

IB Chemistry and Physics

HL and SL

Among the most expensive Diploma subjects to staff well at Higher Level, and the ones where a generalist is exposed fastest. The Internal Assessment is where the money works hardest, if it is spent in the autumn rather than the week before submission.

IGCSE Sciences

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Good value because the mark loss is concentrated in recall precision, units, significant figures and experimental description, all of which respond to a handful of targeted sessions rather than a term of general revision.

IB English A and English B

HL and SL

Two different courses with different assessments including the Individual Oral. The expensive mistake here is structural: a student in the wrong course needs support for two years, which dwarfs any hourly rate difference between providers.

IGCSE English Language and Literature

First and second language routes

Essay structure under timing is the limiting factor, which makes a longer weekend session once a fortnight better value than a short weeknight hour. Vocabulary work is the least cost-effective thing to buy in this subject.

IB Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation command terms carry the marks. Internal Assessment commentaries have strict word limits, and exceeding them is an avoidable loss that costs nothing to prevent and cannot be repaired afterwards.

Internal Assessment and Extended Essay coaching

DP, all subjects

The highest-leverage hours in the Diploma when bought early, and close to worthless when bought late. Criteria taught with their mark allocations, topics interrogated for depth, feedback on the student's own drafts, and nothing written for them.

Theory of Knowledge

DP core

A small field of specialists, so availability rather than price is the constraint. Households that need it should ask early in Year 12 rather than in the term the essay is due, when the few people who teach it are already committed.

Diagnostic sessions across subjects

All stages

One hour per candidate subject, each ending in a written gap list. For a household choosing between three subjects to fund, this is dramatically cheaper than buying packages in all three and learning the answer in March.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, with very different cost profiles. The cheapest total spend usually comes from the most disciplined structure rather than the lowest hourly rate.

One weekly subject per child, sequenced

A single weekly session for each child, in the subject with the widest gap, with the other subjects deliberately deferred to later terms. This is the lowest total annual cost that still works, because it forces a decision about priority rather than spreading a budget across four half-supported subjects.

  • One live commitment per child at any time
  • Subjects rotated by term rather than run concurrently
  • Reviewed at six weeks against school evidence
  • Typically one monthly figure per child, not three

Diagnostic hours before any package

One hour per candidate subject, each producing a written gap list, bought before any longer commitment. For a household weighing three subjects, three diagnostic hours cost a fraction of three packages and answer the question those packages would have taken a term to answer.

  • A written gap list in syllabus language per subject
  • Diagnosis from the child's own marked work
  • Redirects a budget before it is committed
  • Includes honest advice when tuition is not the answer

Short intensive blocks against a named target

Two or three sessions a week for a few weeks, pointed at one diagnosed weakness such as non-calculator technique or Paper 3 question structure. Expensive per week, cheap per mark when the target is specific, and close to worthless when bought as general revision in the final fortnight.

  • A named component, not a subject
  • Bought only after a diagnosis exists
  • Finite by design, with an end date agreed up front
  • Tapers rather than extending into the exam weeks

What a month of tutoring costs in central Abu Dhabi

  • Budget band, one weekly hour: AED 240-600 a month (Bestimate, 2026)
  • Mid band, one weekly hour: AED 600-1,200 a month
  • Specialist exam-year, one weekly hour: AED 1,000-2,000+ a month
  • Published packages: AED 799 online for eight sessions; AED 1,599-1,799 in-home

A month of one weekly hour of qualified online tuition in this market costs between roughly AED 600 and AED 1,200 according to Bestimate's 2026 estimates, rising to AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. At the budget end, where university-student and generalist online tutors sit, the same weekly hour is estimated at AED 240 to AED 600. Published package prices put eight online sessions at around AED 799 a month, and four in-home two-hour visits at AED 1,599 to AED 1,799.

Those are the numbers an Al Manaseer household should budget against, and the table sets them out so a quote can be checked against them. Two things are worth noticing. The in-home monthly package costs roughly double the online one for the same number of contact hours, and the specialist exam-year band costs roughly triple the budget band. Neither gap is about teaching quality in a simple way: the first is travel, and the second is scarcity at the top of a small market.

The second thing is that a household with two children in two curricula is looking at two of these lines, not one. That is where a reasonable set of individual decisions becomes an unreasonable total. The practical response is not to buy cheaper hours but to buy fewer, better-aimed ones, which is what the rest of this page is about. A single diagnostic hour that redirects a year's spending is the best-value purchase in the entire table.

What the in-home premium actually buys

The gap between AED 150 to 300 an hour online and AED 180 to 500 in-home is real money, and it deserves an honest accounting rather than a sales line. In-home tutoring is a genuine service with genuine advantages: a younger child stays in a familiar room, a parent overhears the teaching, and nothing depends on a connection. For some families that is worth the premium and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise.

What the premium buys, though, is mostly transport. A tutor crossing Abu Dhabi island to reach a block in Al Manaseer at seven in the evening spends perhaps an hour travelling for one hour taught, and that hour has to be paid for by somebody. It usually arrives as a higher hourly rate, a two-hour minimum booking nobody needs, or both. The two-hour minimum is the costlier of the two, because concentration on technical material degrades after about seventy-five minutes and the second hour of a weeknight double is frequently the least productive time a household pays for all year.

There is a second, quieter cost: the shortlist. A tutor who must physically reach Al Manaseer can serve a radius of a few kilometres, and for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level or Diploma chemistry that radius often contains one or two people. If neither is a specialist, the family pays the premium and receives a generalist. The table compares the formats on the terms that matter to a budget rather than to a brochure.

The four places a two-curriculum household overspends

  • Three concurrent subjects, each receiving a third of the attention
  • A sibling's tutor retained across a different specification
  • Packages bought before anybody has diagnosed the gap
  • Internal Assessment support bought after the ceiling is already set

Overspending on tutoring in Al Manaseer is rarely about the hourly rate. It is about buying hours in the wrong order, in the wrong subject, or twice over. Four patterns recur in households running an IGCSE child and a Diploma child at once, and each has a price attached.

The first is running three or four subjects concurrently. A household worried about maths, chemistry and English buys all three, and each receives a third of an already short week. Sequencing them, one per term, costs a third as much and works better because the student has capacity to absorb one intervention at a time. The second is duplicating support: an older sibling's tutor retained out of loyalty for a younger child on a different specification, which is a specification mismatch nobody notices until a mock paper.

The third is buying packages before any diagnosis. A ten-hour block looks like a discount, but if six hours go on topics the student already holds, the effective rate on the useful four is more than double the sticker price. One diagnostic hour per candidate subject, each ending in a written gap list, is the cheapest way to redirect a year's budget. The fourth is late Internal Assessment support in the Diploma. The mark ceiling is set by the topic and the depth of mathematics or science available in it, both decided in the first fortnight. A tutor engaged in the final week is reading a finished piece at the same hourly rate for a fraction of the effect.

04

Tutoring in the context of the whole education bill

A tutoring budget looks very different beside a school fee than it does on its own, and the context is worth establishing once rather than argued about every term. Dubai's private school sector, the best documented in the country, served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the UK curriculum taking the largest share of enrolment, followed by Indian, then US, then International Baccalaureate.

On fees, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. Abu Dhabi's fee regime is set separately under ADEK, so these Dubai figures are context rather than a direct read-across.

Set a tutoring plan against that. One weekly mid-band hour at AED 600 to 1,200 a month across nine months is a meaningful sum, and it is usually a small fraction of an international school fee for the same year. That is not an argument for spending freely; it is an argument for spending deliberately, because the marginal return on one well-aimed tutoring hour is frequently higher than the marginal return on anything else in the education budget. The table puts the items side by side.

Cheap help that works, and expensive help that does not

  • Budget band is fine for consolidation, fluency and supervised practice
  • Specialist band earns its rate on Higher Level, Internal Assessments and script dissection
  • Two-hour weeknight blocks waste the second hour almost every time
  • General revision bought in the last fortnight is the weakest purchase available

Not every low rate is false economy and not every high rate buys something. The useful distinction is between work that needs a specialist and work that does not, and a household that gets this right spends less and achieves more than one that simply pays up everywhere.

Work that a budget-band tutor handles perfectly well: supervised practice in a subject the student basically understands, Key Stage 3 and Middle Years consolidation, times tables and arithmetic fluency, reading through worked solutions, and keeping a student moving through routine syllabus coverage in a Standard Level subject sitting comfortably at a 5. Paying AED 350 an hour for any of that is paying for a qualification the task does not require.

Work that needs the specialist band: Higher Level Diploma teaching, Internal Assessment and Extended Essay coaching, the extended-response Paper 3, IGCSE tier diagnosis where the entry decision is live, and mock-script dissection where the value depends entirely on the reader knowing the mark scheme. Expensive help that reliably does not work, meanwhile, has a short list of its own: two-hour weeknight blocks, general revision bought in the final fortnight, homework supervision at specialist rates, and any package purchased before anybody looked at a marked script. The rule of thumb is simple enough to apply at a kitchen table. If the task needs somebody to know the mark scheme, buy the specialist. If it needs somebody to sit beside a student and keep them working, do not.

06

What to send when you ask three providers for a quote

Comparing tutoring quotes in Abu Dhabi is unusually difficult because providers answer different questions. One quotes per hour, another per session of unstated length, a third per month with the number of sessions buried, and a fourth declines to quote at all until a call has been booked. The fix is to send all three the same brief, so the replies are comparable.

A good brief is six lines. The curriculum and level, named precisely: IB Diploma Analysis and Approaches Higher Level, or Cambridge IGCSE 0580 Extended, not maths. The year group and the school. Which specific thing you want help with, if you know. The two evening windows that genuinely work from Al Manaseer. How many weeks you expect to run for. And a direct request: give me a monthly figure for a defined plan, with session length stated.

Then ask the same three closing questions of everybody. Does the quoted price include VAT, which is a question only the provider can answer for their own pricing and one worth asking in writing? What happens if we stop after one session? And who, by name, will teach my child, and which courses and levels have they actually taught? The table below is the checklist. Any provider who cannot answer all of it has told you something useful about what the arrangement will be like in February. Send all three briefs on the same day, too. Availability changes week to week in this market, and a reply received a fortnight after the others is answering a different question about capacity.

Free trials, and the conditions worth reading

  • Ask the trial's length, and whether a card is required to book it
  • Ask whether the trial tutor is the continuing tutor
  • Ask what is owed if the trial does not suit, in writing
  • Ask whether anything renews automatically afterwards

Almost every provider in this market offers a free trial, and the word free does different work in different offers. Reading the condition before booking costs nothing and occasionally saves a month's fees, so it is worth doing once properly.

The questions are short. How long is the trial, and is it a full session or a shortened one? Is a card required to book it? Is it genuinely a teaching session, or a consultation with a coordinator who then introduces a tutor later? Is the tutor who teaches the trial the tutor who continues? And if the trial does not suit, is anything owed, and does anything auto-renew? An offer that cannot answer those in writing is not an offer you can compare.

For clarity about what happens here: the IB Gram trial is a free, full working session with the tutor who would continue, named before the lesson together with the courses and levels they have taught. The tutor teaches something, tests a hypothesis about where the gap sits, and writes down what they found, and you receive that written gap list afterwards. If the fit is wrong, the match changes and nothing is owed. Nothing renews automatically off the back of a trial, because a mismatch identified in week one costs one hour and a mismatch tolerated until half term costs a term. One more worth asking: whether the trial is recorded or whether notes from it are shared with you. A trial that produces nothing you can read afterwards leaves you with an impression rather than information, and an impression is exactly what the next quote will be judged on.

08

The permit and the VAT question, answered as far as they can be

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free, so no licence fee belongs in a rate
  • No official fine schedule exists for unpermitted tutoring, so quoted figures are unverified
  • VAT treatment depends on the provider; ask in writing whether a quote includes it
  • Ask for a tax registration number from any provider claiming to charge VAT

Two money questions come up constantly in this market and are almost never answered straight, so here is as much as can honestly be said about each.

The permit first, because it is the one with a clear answer. An individual giving private lessons in the UAE needs a private tuition work permit from MoHRE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and that fact matters commercially: any provider implying that a licence fee is built into their rate is describing something that does not exist. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any figure circulating online is unverified.

VAT is the question that cannot be answered responsibly on a page like this. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees depends on the provider's own status and registration, and stating a general rule without a Federal Tax Authority citation would be guessing at a family's expense. The only useful thing is a practical instruction: ask every provider, in writing, whether their quoted AED figure includes VAT, and ask for their tax registration number if they claim to charge it. A provider who answers both clearly is easy to compare and a provider who deflects is not.

Where we tutor

Al Manaseer and the districts these lessons reach

The western island districts around Al Manaseer and the campuses its children attend. Online delivery means the published rate carries no travel component regardless of which of these a family lives in or drives to.

Al Manaseer

Apartment living between Al Khalidiyah and Al Bateen, close to the Corniche. Central by any measure, and still a thirty-minute round trip for a tutor coming from most of the places a Higher Level specialist might live.

Al Khalidiyah

Immediately north, with slow retail streets at the hours tuition happens. Households here hire through building networks more than most, which keeps rates informal and makes comparison harder.

Al Bateen

West and south with several established campuses. Short school runs and, for in-home arrangements, the one direction where the travel premium is genuinely small.

Al Ras Al Akhdar

The western tip, lower density and longer internal drives. A smaller pool of informal local tutors, which pushes families towards agencies and towards the higher published bands.

Al Manhal

Inland and adjacent, with children split between the western island and the Al Mushrif cluster. Two campuses in one household is common, and so is paying twice for overlapping support.

Al Khubeirah

Between Al Manaseer and the Corniche, residential and quiet, with school destinations spread right across the island. Long runs here make weekend sessions better value than extra weeknights.

Al Mushrif

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes east and the island's densest British-curriculum provision, so the largest concentration of IGCSE candidates and the busiest tutoring demand.

Al Reem Island

Across the bridge, with two significant IB and British-curriculum campuses. Diploma Higher Level demand from here is high and local specialist supply is thin, which is where scarcity pricing appears.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Write down the monthly number you can sustain

Not the hourly rate you are willing to pay but the monthly figure that works for nine months, across both children if there are two. Everything else follows from that, and a plan built without it tends to grow by one subject a term until somebody calls a halt.

  2. 02

Buy one diagnostic hour per candidate subject

An hour each in the subjects you are weighing, with the child's own marked work, each ending in a written gap list. Three diagnostic hours cost a fraction of three packages and answer the question those packages would take a term to answer.

  3. 03

Pick one subject per child and sequence the rest

Fund the widest gap now and defer the others deliberately to later terms. One live commitment per child is what keeps the monthly figure where you set it and keeps the student able to absorb the help.

  4. 04

Take the free trial before committing anything

A full working session with the named tutor who would continue, their taught courses and levels stated beforehand, ending in written findings. If it does not fit, the match changes, nothing is owed and nothing renews.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks against school evidence

Set the written gap list, the saved worked solutions and the most recent school assessment side by side. If the evidence has not moved, the plan changes or the hours stop. That review is the mechanism that stops a monthly commitment running on by inertia.

Every AED number on this page is attributed to the provider that published it or to Bestimate's 2026 rate table. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a UAE family transacts in.

No journey inside the rate

In-home rates in this market run AED 180 to 500 an hour because a tutor crosses the island twice for one hour of teaching. Online delivery removes the journey, the two-hour minimum that usually comes with it, and the local-only shortlist.

Diagnosis before packages

A ten-hour block spent partly on topics a student already holds has an effective rate well above its sticker price. One diagnostic hour with a marked script redirects a year's budget more reliably than any discount.

One commitment per child at a time

Sequencing subjects by term rather than running three at once is the single largest saving available to a two-curriculum household, and it also produces better results because one intervention can actually be absorbed.

A trial with nothing attached

Free, full length, with the continuing tutor named in advance, ending in a written gap list. Nothing renews automatically, and if the fit is wrong the match changes at no cost.

Honest where the facts run out

The MoHRE permit is free, so no licence fee belongs in anyone's rate. No fine schedule is published, so no figure is quoted. VAT treatment depends on the provider, so we tell you to ask in writing rather than guessing on your behalf.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Manaseer: your questions answered

What should a month of IB or IGCSE tutoring cost in central Abu Dhabi?+

Bestimate's 2026 monthly estimates for one weekly hour are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Published package prices in this market put eight online sessions at around AED 799 a month and four in-home two-hour visits at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Those are market figures rather than an IB Gram price list, and they are the right numbers to check a quote against, because a monthly figure for a defined plan is the only comparable thing in this market.

Why is in-home tutoring in Abu Dhabi so much more expensive per hour?+

Because the rate includes a journey. A tutor crossing Abu Dhabi island to reach a flat in Al Manaseer at seven in the evening may spend close to an hour travelling for one hour taught, and somebody pays for that. It arrives as a higher hourly figure, quoted in this market at AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 online, or as a two-hour minimum booking, or both. The two-hour minimum is the more expensive of the two, because the second hour of a weeknight double is rarely productive.

Do your tutors visit homes in Al Manaseer?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE, and visits to a family's address are a service we run only in India. Other Abu Dhabi providers do offer in-home tuition and it is a legitimate service with real advantages for younger children. For IB and IGCSE work the trade is usually poor value: you pay the travel premium and accept a shortlist limited to specialists who live within a drive of Al Khalidiyah. Our Al Manaseer lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Where do families with two children in two curricula usually waste money?+

Four places. Running three or four subjects at once, so each receives a third of an already short week, when sequencing them one per term would cost a third as much and work better. Keeping an older sibling's tutor for a younger child on a different specification, which is a mismatch nobody notices until a mock. Buying packages before anybody has diagnosed the gap, so paid hours go on topics the student already holds. And buying Internal Assessment support after the mark ceiling has already been set by the topic choice.

Is a package cheaper than paying for single sessions?+

Per hour, usually yes. Per useful hour, often not. A ten-hour block looks like a discount, but if six of those hours cover material the student already holds, the effective rate on the four that mattered is more than double the sticker price. The sequence that actually saves money is one diagnostic hour first, with the child's marked work in front of the tutor, producing a written gap list, and only then hours bought against that list. Packages also tend to have the least flexible exit terms, which is where they hurt.

How much does tutoring cost compared with school fees?+

Usually a small fraction of the same year's school fee, which is context rather than permission. For scale, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within an AED 2.5 billion total, and Dubai's sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25. Abu Dhabi fees are regulated separately by ADEK, so those figures are background. The argument is for deliberate spending: one well-aimed hour often returns more than anything else in the budget.

Which tutoring work genuinely needs an expensive specialist?+

Higher Level Diploma teaching, Internal Assessment and Extended Essay coaching, the extended-response Paper 3, an IGCSE tier diagnosis while the entry decision is still live, and mock-script dissection, where all the value depends on the reader knowing the mark scheme. What does not need the specialist band is supervised practice in a subject the student basically understands, Middle Years consolidation, arithmetic fluency and routine coverage in a Standard Level subject already sitting at a 5. Paying specialist rates for those is paying for a qualification the task does not use.

What is the least effective thing a family can spend tutoring money on?+

General revision bought in the final fortnight before an exam. By that point the limiting factor is almost never knowledge, the student has no capacity to absorb new content, and the hours mostly provide reassurance at a specialist rate. Close behind it: two-hour weeknight blocks, where the second hour is usually the least productive time bought all year, and homework supervision at specialist rates, which is something a quiet room and a worked-solutions file would do for nothing.

How do I compare quotes from three different Abu Dhabi providers?+

Send all three the same six-line brief, or the replies will not be comparable. State the curriculum, course and level precisely, the year group and school, what you want help with, your two workable evening windows, how many weeks you expect to run, and a direct request for a monthly figure for a defined plan with session length stated. Then ask every provider the same three closing questions: does the price include VAT, what happens if we stop after one session, and who by name will teach, with the courses and levels they have taught.

Should I expect an Abu Dhabi tutoring quote to be VAT-inclusive?+

That can only be answered by each provider for their own pricing, and any page that states a general rule about the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees without a Federal Tax Authority citation is guessing at your expense. So the practical instruction is to ask in writing, from every provider you are comparing, whether the quoted AED figure includes VAT, and to ask for a tax registration number from any provider that says it charges it. A clear written answer makes a quote comparable; a verbal assurance does not.

Is there a licence fee built into what tutors charge in the UAE?+

There should not be, because the permit is free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Any provider implying that a government licence cost sits inside their rate is describing something that does not exist. Working without a permit does attract fines and penalties under the applicable laws, but no official fine schedule has been published, so figures circulating online for that are unverified.

What conditions should I check on a free trial lesson?+

Five. How long the trial is, and whether it is a full session or a shortened one. Whether a card is required to book it. Whether it is a genuine teaching session or a consultation with a coordinator who introduces a tutor afterwards. Whether the tutor who teaches the trial is the one who continues. And whether anything is owed or renews automatically if it does not suit. Our trial is a full free session with the continuing tutor, named in advance with their taught courses and levels, ending in a written gap list, with nothing owed and nothing renewing.

Do rates rise closer to the exam series?+

Published rates do not generally change, but what you can buy at them does. The specialists with capacity in September are the people families want in March, and by then they are committed. So a Year 11 or Year 13 request made in April is often met with either a waiting time or a tutor who covers the course rather than specialising in it, at the same price. The effect is a quality reduction rather than a price rise, which is harder to see on an invoice and more expensive in outcome.

Which campuses do your students around Al Manaseer attend?+

Families on the western island come from campuses in Al Bateen and nearby, and from the IB and British-curriculum schools further out, including the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, Al Bateen Academy, Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi, Repton School Abu Dhabi, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi and Raha International School. Those names are given to describe the local education map and nothing else. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named, and none of them is a client of ours.

If our budget only covers one child, which one should it go to?+

Whichever has the decision closing soonest rather than the louder complaint. An IGCSE tier entry closes and cannot be reopened, so it outranks almost everything. A Diploma Internal Assessment topic sets a mark ceiling in its first fortnight. A Year 11 or Year 13 technique problem has to be addressed before February. General consolidation, a Standard Level subject sitting comfortably and a Year 9 wobble can all wait a term at no cost. One diagnostic hour per child, each producing a written gap list, usually makes the answer obvious.

Set the monthly figure, then spend it in the right order

If you are weighing an IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Manaseer, decide the monthly amount that works for nine months before you ask anyone for an hourly rate. Then buy one diagnostic hour per candidate subject, read the written gap lists, fund the widest gap for one child at a time and defer the rest deliberately. Send us the course and level, one marked piece of work and your two workable evening windows, and the free trial runs with a named tutor at no cost and nothing renewing.
