IGCSE Home Tutor in Shakhbout City

Families comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Shakhbout City with one in Khalifa City or Mohammed Bin Zayed City are comparing the same pool of people from three addresses. Tutors in this corridor draw from one supply, your child sits one of two exam boards, and the only thing the postcode genuinely changes is the clock. This page sets the communities side by side, shows where the real differences lie, and explains why live one-to-one online lessons make the comparison unnecessary.

  • The corridor shares one tutor supply across all its communities

IB & IGCSE in Shakhbout City

Comparing two neighbouring communities, and finding the same answer

Shakhbout City is a mainland villa community in the Khalifa City corridor, sitting between Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City. It was built as family housing — compound streets, villas rather than towers — and most children here attend one of the international schools in that corridor. Families moving within Abu Dhabi routinely weigh it against the communities either side, and when they do they usually assume tutoring availability is one of the variables.

It is not, and this page exists to say so plainly rather than to pretend otherwise. The resident tutors who serve Shakhbout City also serve Khalifa City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Raha and Al Reef, because those communities sit within twenty minutes of each other and a tutor's route covers several of them in a week. There is one supply, and it is allocated by who asked first and who pays the travel.

What that means in practice is that a family comparing "tutors in Shakhbout City" with "tutors in Khalifa City" is comparing two search results drawn from one list. The names may differ because of how agencies tag their pages, and the people behind them overlap substantially. A quoted rate may differ by twenty or thirty dirhams depending on which end of the corridor the tutor lives in, and that difference is a petrol calculation rather than a quality one.

There are real differences between these communities, and they are worth naming: housing type, which schools are immediately adjacent, the curriculum mix those schools run, and how long the school run takes. Those affect your life considerably. They do not affect which IGCSE specialist is available to teach Cambridge 0620 Chemistry to a Year 11 student on a Tuesday evening.

Two things do change the answer, and both have nothing to do with geography. The first is which exam board your child is entered with, because Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel examine the same subjects with different papers, tiering and mark schemes. The second is the time your child is actually at a desk, which is a function of the school you chose rather than the house.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. In-home tutoring is a service we run in India only, and no tutor will travel to a Shakhbout City address or to any other address in this corridor. Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, matched on syllabus code and tier. That removes the comparison entirely: the same specialist is available from any of these communities, and from the next emirate for that matter.

What follows is the comparison done properly: the two communities side by side, what genuinely differs between neighbouring Abu Dhabi communities, the board question, what changes if you move emirate, how a tuition centre in the next community compares with one-to-one online, and what each option costs in AED.

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge International's IGCSE suite, identified by four-digit codes — 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 English First Language. Most subjects offer a Core tier with a reduced syllabus and a capped grade range and an Extended tier with the full content and full range, and the entry tier is decided by the school with you.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series; the February and March series is offered to India only and is not available to a candidate sitting in Abu Dhabi. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

EDEXCELAges 14–16 · Years 10–11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Pearson's international GCSE suite, identified by codes such as 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry and 4BI1 Biology. Mathematics A is tiered as Foundation and Higher. Several subjects are available in a modular structure where units can be sat across series, which changes revision planning compared with a single terminal entry.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in May/June and November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes and revises provisional timetables, so use the live official one.

OLEVELAges 14–16 · Years 10–11

Cambridge O Level

Cambridge's O Level qualifications sit in the same June and November series and remain on offer for some subjects in some schools. Content overlaps heavily with the equivalent IGCSE while the assessment pattern differs, particularly in the handling of coursework and practical components.

Fewer schools in this corridor enter O Level than IGCSE, but it appears, and it matters when a family moves house and school at the same time. A Year 10 student transferring between an O Level and an IGCSE entry in the same subject has a small content gap and a real paper-technique gap, which is a short, cheap piece of work if it is done at the point of transfer.

POST16Ages 16–19 · Years 12–13

What the IGCSE grade set opens

The Year 11 grade set determines access to A Level, to the IB Diploma or to a career-related route, and each sixth form sets its own thresholds. Mathematics is the tightest gate: an Extended or Higher tier grade is normally required for A Level Mathematics or IB Higher Level maths.

Several schools across this corridor run both A Level and IB Diploma sixth forms, which makes the grade set a genuine fork. Because the corridor's schools sit so close together, families here often change school between Year 11 and Year 12 rather than moving house, and the receiving school's thresholds are worth asking about a year early.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects families across this corridor most often fund, with the specific place marks go. The syllabus code matters more than the community you live in.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics. Algebraic manipulation dominates the losses at the higher tiers, because almost every multi-step question routes through it and one slip costs a whole question.

Physics (0625 / 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Forces and motion, electricity, waves, thermal physics and radioactivity. Circuits are the standard breaking point, and the practical component rewards precise description of method and control variables.

Chemistry (0620 / 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, electrolysis and organic chemistry. Moles and ionic equations concentrate the marks; qualitative analysis rewards learned observations students rarely revise systematically.

Biology (0610 / 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Cells, transport, nutrition, respiration, coordination, inheritance and ecology. Large content, and the losses are command-term failures rather than knowledge gaps — describing where an explanation was asked for.

English First Language (0500)

Single tier

Reading comprehension, directed writing and composition. Marks go on failing to adapt register to the stated audience and on summary answers that reproduce rather than condense. A repeatable structure moves this grade fastest.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Reading, writing, listening and speaking for additional-language candidates. Gains come from accuracy drilling and exam technique rather than general conversation, and the listening paper responds to practice at speed.

Economics and Business Studies

Core and Extended

Demand and supply, markets, the macroeconomy, business functions and finance. Diagram accuracy carries marks and is routinely sloppy; extended answers lose credit for listing without evaluating in context.

Computer Science and ICT

Core and Extended

Data representation, hardware, networks, algorithms, programming and the practical components. Pseudocode and trace-table questions are reliable marks students treat as optional.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies

Per the Ministry's requirements

These run alongside the international curriculum under the federal baseline. For Ministry equivalency on the British track, Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

Additional Mathematics and further options

Where the school offers them

Material overlapping early AS content: advanced algebra, series, identities and calculus foundations. A short, cheap bridge into sixth-form maths for a student already secure in the main syllabus.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered live over video, all available identically from any community in this corridor.

Weekly one-to-one on one subject

A fixed slot with the same tutor across a term, board and tier specific. Funding one subject properly beats funding three thinly, and that holds regardless of which community you live in or how many tutors advertise within ten minutes of your villa.

  • Same tutor and slot, 60 or 90 minutes
  • Matched to the syllabus code and tier
  • Reviewed against each marked school assessment

A targeted topic block

Four to six sessions on named weaknesses taken from a marked paper. Defined, testable and finite, which is why it costs less per grade point moved than any open-ended weekly arrangement bought on a local recommendation.

  • A named topic list and a session count
  • Starts from a marked script, not the textbook
  • Ends with a timed question set on the same topics

Exam-series run-in

Two or three sessions a week before a June or November series, built from the student's own scripts. Diagnostic first, then drilling the repeating errors. It ends with the series rather than continuing by default.

  • Begins with a full paper sat under exam timing
  • Board-correct: the right series for your board
  • Finishes when the papers do

Shakhbout City or Khalifa City: does the postcode change the answer?

Mostly no, and the reason is worth understanding before you spend time comparing. These communities sit within ten to twenty minutes of each other inside one continuous mainland corridor. A resident tutor living in Khalifa City will take bookings in Shakhbout City, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, Al Raha and sometimes Al Reef, because that is how a viable week is assembled when each session is an hour and the travel between them is short.

So the list of available tutors is effectively shared. What differs between two agency pages titled for two neighbouring communities is the page title, not the people. Where a rate differs by twenty or thirty dirhams, that is a petrol and time calculation reflecting which end of the corridor the tutor lives in, not a difference in what they know about Cambridge 0620 Chemistry.

Families still find real differences when they compare these communities, and it is worth separating them out honestly. Housing type and cost differ. Which schools are immediately adjacent differs. The curriculum mix those schools run differs, with Mohammed Bin Zayed City offering the broadest range in the emirate. Community facilities and the character of the streets differ. Those matter a great deal to how you live and almost nothing to which tutor teaches your child.

The one educational variable the address genuinely changes is the length of the school run, and even that is mostly a function of which school you chose rather than which community you live in. A Shakhbout City family with a child at a Khalifa City school has a ten-minute run; a Shakhbout City family with a child on Saadiyat has a forty-minute one. The comparison table below sets the communities against each other on the things that actually differ.

Why it is the same pool either way

  • Tutors assemble weeks from short-travel clusters, so supply organises by corridor
  • Two listings for two neighbouring communities often describe the same people
  • Local results indicate distance, not whether the board and tier match
  • If the pool is shared anyway, the postcode filter buys you nothing

The structural reason is worth spelling out, because it explains why the comparison cannot produce a different answer. Private tutoring in this emirate is supplied by individuals who assemble a week out of hour-long bookings. For that to be economic, the bookings have to be geographically close to each other, which pushes every tutor towards covering a cluster of neighbouring communities rather than specialising in one.

A tutor living in Khalifa City can plausibly fit four sessions into an evening across Khalifa City, Shakhbout City and the near edge of Mohammed Bin Zayed City. They cannot fit four sessions into an evening if two of them are on Saadiyat. So the supply naturally organises into corridors, and this corridor is one of the largest in the emirate.

The practical consequence for a parent is that local search results are a poor guide to quality and a reasonable guide to distance. Two tutors advertising for two different communities here may be the same person with two listings, or two people who would both take your booking. Neither fact tells you whether they teach your child's board at your child's tier, which is the thing that determines whether the hour works.

Which is the argument for changing the filter rather than the postcode. If the pool is shared across the corridor anyway, then the only remaining question is who teaches the qualification — and once you ask that, there is no reason to restrict the search to people who can drive to your villa. That is the whole case for online delivery here, and it is a logical consequence of the local supply pattern rather than a sales pitch.

03

Cambridge or Edexcel: the difference that does change the answer

Having established that geography barely matters, here is the variable that genuinely does. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel examine the same subjects with different papers, different codes, different tiering vocabulary and different mark schemes. A tutor drilling Cambridge 0580 past papers for a student entered with Pearson 4MA1 is teaching useful mathematics and wasting the specificity you are paying for.

The differences are concrete. Cambridge tiers many subjects as Core and Extended; Pearson tiers Mathematics A as Foundation and Higher, and they are not identical in content or grade ceiling. Several Pearson subjects can be taken modularly with units sat across series, which changes the revision calendar entirely compared with a single terminal entry. Practical assessment in the sciences is handled differently, and the mark schemes reward differently phrased answers even where the physics is identical.

Find out by asking the school for the syllabus code rather than the subject name. Cambridge codes are four digits; Pearson codes carry a number and letters. Then give the code to anyone you speak to. A tutor who asks which tier applies and which paper pattern governs your child's exam year knows the qualification. A tutor who treats IGCSE as one thing has told you what you need to know at no cost.

One operational point with consequences, particularly for a private candidate. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong timetable. Through a school that is the school's responsibility. As a private candidate it is yours.

If you move emirate, the regulator changes

Families comparing communities inside Abu Dhabi sometimes end up comparing emirates, and that is the one relocation decision where the education framework genuinely changes rather than the house. The regulator differs by emirate, and so does the breadth of its remit.

Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which u.ae describes as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai sits with KHDA, described as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education there. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate. Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

The remit is not uniform, and this is the detail that catches families out. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods — so curriculum and fee approval, not merely inspection, sits with the emirate regulator there. Dubai's KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under a second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, which is a Dubai measure and not a national one.

For a tutoring decision none of this changes what you buy, because an online tutor serves any emirate identically. It changes what you ask the new school about: inspection history, fee policy, which board they enter and which tier they would place your child in. Those questions are free and more consequential than the tutoring.

A centre in the next community, or one-to-one online

The real alternative in this corridor is often not another home tutor but a tuition centre a few minutes' drive away, and the comparison deserves to be made on the right measure. Hourly rate makes a centre look decisively cheaper. Price per minute of attention directed at your child's specific error makes it look very different.

A group class at a fraction of the one-to-one rate may give a student five to fifteen minutes of individual correction in an hour, with the pace set by the group rather than by your child. That is good value for broad content coverage and shared revision, and poor value for a diagnosed weakness in moles calculations or circuit questions. The error families make is buying one-to-one for coverage and group classes for diagnosis, which is the arrangement exactly inverted.

Then there are the costs nobody quotes. A centre means two car journeys per session, usually at the hour this corridor's roads are busiest, which is a parent's time as well as a student's. It also means a fixed timetable, so a clash with a school activity is a paid session lost and not recovered. Across a school year that is several hours either kept or forfeited, and it belongs in the comparison alongside the headline rate.

And the direct answer on our own format, since this page targets a home-tutor search: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. No tutor will travel to a Shakhbout City address. In-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. The comparison below is between what the corridor offers and what we do.

What it costs in either community, and what the drive adds

Published market rates for this emirate, read in October 2026, are these. Budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to 300. An in-home one-to-one visit at AED 180 to 500, with the journey inside the fee. A named IGCSE or A-Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above. Premium examiner-led provision reaching AED 650.

Monthly, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for weekly one-hour sessions come out at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Package rates seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions.

The corridor-specific point is that the in-home premium here is smaller than on the islands, because the drive is shorter. That is genuinely a point in favour of in-home tutoring in this part of Abu Dhabi, and it would be dishonest not to say so. The gap is still a gap, though: somewhere between AED 30 and AED 200 an hour depending on where the tutor starts from, and across a school year of weekly sessions that is a real figure spent on a journey rather than on teaching.

IB Gram publishes no hourly price on this page. There is a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the number follows once the board, tier and frequency are known. The figures above are the market's, included so you can price any quote you receive, ours among them.

What a tutor may and may not do, and the permit question

  • Allowed: teaching, explaining mark schemes, questioning a method, feedback on the student's own work
  • Not allowed: writing, completing or modelling assessed work
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Ask any local tutor to show you their permit before the first paid session

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the IB Diploma, and where it exists the boundary is the same. A tutor may teach the content, explain what the mark scheme rewards, question a method until the student finds its weakness, read work the student wrote and name which part undersells it, and teach honest description of a method. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or complete assessed work, produce a model answer to the live task for adaptation, or supply data the student did not collect.

There is an operator in this market selling completed Internal Assessments at a published price. That is an academic-integrity breach, it is a malpractice trigger for the student rather than for the seller, and it is not a service we offer at any fee. We also do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; we reference them and link the official source.

On the permit question, which parents in this corridor ask more than most because so many tutors advertise locally: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Applications go through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted figure with suspicion. One Abu Dhabi-specific point: ADEK's professional-ethics rules have been reported as prohibiting private and charter school staff from giving paid tuition to students at their own school, and the permit code of conduct is reported to bar the same. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy. IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or partnership and operates no UAE office.

Coverage, and the honest answer about where the tutors are

  • Main subjects on both boards: a trial lesson usually within a week
  • Thin coverage is stated before payment, not discovered afterwards
  • Non-UAE-based tutors are disclosed upfront, with the lesson in your evening
  • Slots tighten in the second term, so ask in the autumn if you can

Since this page is about comparing locations, the fair thing is to state where our own tutors are. Common IGCSE subjects on both boards are well covered and a trial lesson is usually arranged within a few days to a week. Some subjects are thinner — less-taught languages, a few specialist options — and in those cases we say so before you pay rather than offering a near miss.

Where the right specialist for a subject is not UAE-based, you are told before the trial lesson and the reason is named, and the session is still scheduled in your evening in Gulf Standard Time rather than theirs. That disclosure matters because several providers in this market route UAE parents to contact numbers outside the country without ever stating where the teaching comes from, which a parent discovers only once lessons start at an odd hour.

Coverage also moves through the year. Slots in the main subjects tighten in the second term as families across the corridor and the Gulf reach the same point in the calendar, so the quickest route to a good tutor in February is to have asked in October. If you are reading this in the autumn term with a known weakness, that timing is the most useful line on the page.

And the comparison this page started with, concluded. Whether you live in Shakhbout City, Khalifa City or Mohammed Bin Zayed City, the same specialist is available at the same time for the same work, because nobody is driving. The variable worth optimising is the board and tier match, not the address.

Where we tutor

The communities a Shakhbout City family compares

These sit within twenty to thirty minutes of each other and share one resident tutor supply. Because our lessons are online, moving between them changes nothing about which specialist is available.

Shakhbout City

Mainland villa community in the Khalifa City corridor, built as family housing with compound streets. Short school runs into the surrounding corridor and a quiet evening, which is good for a Year 11 timetable.

Khalifa City

Immediately adjacent, with the emirate's densest concentration of international schools and the largest resident tutor population. The community most often compared with Shakhbout City on both counts.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

The dense mainland grid on the other side, with the broadest curriculum mix in the emirate including Indian and Arab curriculum schools alongside British ones. A wider field at a slightly longer distance.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community with international schools adjacent, including IB provision. Comparable housing to Shakhbout City at a different price and with different schools next door.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartments and townhouses along the airport road. The usual alternative for a family weighing villa space against proximity to the city and the airport.

Al Reef

Affordable villas and apartments near the airport, popular with teaching staff. Part of the same tutor supply as Shakhbout City, and often the origin of a quoted in-home rate.

Masdar City

The research district by the airport with no school inside it. Its families commute into the same corridor, which is why they compete for the same tutoring slots.

Yas Island

Newer British-curriculum schools north of the airport road. A real commute from this corridor, so families enrolled there take an evening slot rather than an afternoon one.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural district with a small number of well-known international schools. The longest school run a Shakhbout City family would normally accept, and a genuine reason to compare communities.

School ecosystem

Khalifa City, Shakhbout City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

One continuous school belt rather than three separate ones, with British, IB, Indian and Arab curriculum provision across it. This is why the comparison between the communities is mostly a comparison of housing rather than of education access.

The school sets the arrival time, which sets the slot. A Shakhbout City child at a Khalifa City school is home before four; the same child at a Saadiyat school is home nearer five. The address is the smaller variable.

  3. 03

    Send marked work

The last two marked assessments with the teacher's comments. We propose a specialist matched to the code and tier, and tell you plainly if coverage for that subject is thin before you pay for anything.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on real work

A genuine hour on the marked script rather than an introduction. At the end, ask the tutor to name what is costing marks and what the fix is. A vague answer after an hour on real evidence is itself informative.

  5. 05

Buy a block with a review point

A defined session count on named topics, a weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, and a named assessment to review against. Sessions shift post-Iftar during Ramadan and pause across school exam weeks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison made honestly

We say that the corridor shares one tutor supply and that the in-home premium here is smaller than on the islands, because both are true. What we do not do is pretend a postcode changes which specialist can teach Cambridge 0620.

Board and tier before geography

The syllabus code is the first filter, because Cambridge 0580 Core and Pearson 4MA1 Higher are different products with different papers, command terms and tier ceilings. Online delivery is what makes that filter the primary one.

Identical availability across the corridor

The same specialist at the same time whether you live in Shakhbout City, Khalifa City or Mohammed Bin Zayed City — and whether you move to another emirate next year.

Costs shown with their sources

Every AED band here is another provider's published figure or Bestimate's 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. Three of the researched competitor pages in this market publish no price at all.

Coverage limits stated before payment

Thin subjects are named upfront, and non-UAE-based delivery is disclosed before the trial lesson rather than discovered in week three. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit at all.

No claimed approvals and no guarantees

IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, Ministry, Cambridge or Pearson approval or partnership, runs no UAE office, publishes no self-generated statistics, and promises no grades. Tutoring is not required for equivalency or admission.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Shakhbout City: your questions answered

Will I find more IGCSE tutors in Khalifa City than in Shakhbout City?+

More will be listed, and it is largely the same people. These communities sit ten to twenty minutes apart inside one mainland corridor, and a resident tutor assembles a week from short-travel bookings across Khalifa City, Shakhbout City and the near edge of Mohammed Bin Zayed City. So two agency pages titled for two neighbouring communities draw from one list. Where a rate differs by twenty or thirty dirhams, that reflects which end of the corridor the tutor starts from, not what they know about your child's syllabus.

What genuinely differs between Shakhbout City and the communities next to it?+

Housing character and cost, which schools sit immediately adjacent, the curriculum mix those schools run, and community facilities. Mohammed Bin Zayed City has the broadest curriculum range in the emirate, including Indian and Arab curriculum schools alongside British ones. Khalifa City has the densest concentration of international schools. Those differences matter considerably to how you live. None of them determine which IGCSE specialist is free to teach a Year 11 student on a Tuesday evening, which is the thing a tutoring decision turns on.

Does living closer to the school make tutoring easier?+

Yes, and it is the one educational advantage the address genuinely buys — though it depends on the school rather than the community. A Shakhbout City child at a Khalifa City school is home before four, which supports a 4.30pm session with a student who is still functioning. The same child at a Saadiyat school is home nearer five and needs an evening slot. We plan from the actual arrival time rather than the school's finish time, because the gap between them is where sessions get wasted.

Is the in-home premium smaller in this corridor than elsewhere in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise. An in-home tutor serving Shakhbout City is usually travelling ten to twenty-five minutes rather than crossing the city, so less of the quoted rate is journey. The gap is still real: published bands put in-home at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, so somewhere between AED 30 and AED 200 an hour. Across a school year of weekly sessions that remains a substantial sum spent on a drive.

Which exam board does my child sit, and how would I check?+

Ask the school for the syllabus code rather than the subject name. Cambridge codes are four digits — 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology. Pearson Edexcel codes look like 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1. The boards examine the same subjects with different papers, different tier vocabulary and different mark schemes, and several Pearson subjects allow modular unit entry, which changes revision planning completely. Give the code to any tutor you speak to; whether they ask about the tier and paper pattern tells you a great deal for nothing.

Is Cambridge Core the same as Pearson Foundation?+

No, and treating them as interchangeable is a common error. Cambridge tiers many subjects as Core and Extended; Pearson tiers Mathematics A as Foundation and Higher. The content coverage and the grade ceilings are not identical, the papers differ, and the mark schemes reward differently phrased answers. A tutor talking about Foundation tier when your child is entered for Cambridge Core is working from the wrong map, which is why the syllabus code rather than the tier name is the thing to establish first.

Does moving to another emirate change our child's education framework?+

More than moving between communities does. The regulator differs: ADEK in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, KHDA in Dubai, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education for Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The remit differs too — Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, not just inspection. For tutoring nothing changes, since an online tutor serves any emirate identically; for school choice, a great deal does.

Is a tuition centre a few minutes away better value than one-to-one?+

Cheaper per hour, often not per useful minute. A group class at a fraction of the one-to-one rate may give your child five to fifteen minutes of individual correction in an hour, with the pace set by the group. It is good value for broad content coverage and poor value for a diagnosed weakness. A centre also adds two car journeys per session at the busiest hour and a fixed timetable, so a clash with a school activity is a paid session lost. Use the school's own revision provision before either.

How much does an IGCSE tutor cost around Shakhbout City?+

Published market figures read in October 2026: budget online tutoring at AED 45 to 150 an hour, a qualified subject tutor online at AED 150 to 300, an in-home visit at AED 180 to 500 with the drive inside the fee, a named IGCSE specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, and premium examiner-led provision reaching AED 650. Monthly, Bestimate's 2026 estimates give AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for exam-year support. Ours follows a free trial.

Will anyone come to our villa in Shakhbout City?+

Not from IB Gram. We run no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. The honest case for that in this corridor is not distance, since a visiting tutor would come from nearby. It is that an online match is made on the syllabus code and tier rather than on who can fit your villa into an evening route, and that the slot can move inside the week when the week demands it.

Do private tutors in this corridor need a permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applying through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published. Ask any local tutor to show you theirs before the first paid session.

Several teachers at our school tutor locally. Can we use one of them?+

It is not the shortcut it looks like, particularly in Abu Dhabi. ADEK's professional-ethics rules have been reported as prohibiting private and charter school staff from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat both as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy if it affects you. We will not arrange that, and a specialist in the same syllabus from outside the school is usually more candid about the gaps anyway.

Can a tutor help write my child's coursework?+

No. A tutor may teach the content, explain what the mark scheme rewards, question a method until the student finds its weakness, read work the student produced and name which part undersells it, and teach honest method description. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or complete assessed work, produce a model answer to the live task for adaptation, or supply data the student did not collect. One operator in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price, which is a malpractice trigger for the student rather than for the seller.

Are board papers and mark schemes included in the fee?+

We link them rather than supply them. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyrighted material belonging to Cambridge or Pearson, and a folder of scans is redistribution of somebody else's property rather than a bonus for you. Papers come through your school's exams officer or the board directly. What a tutor adds is not the paper but the marking of your child's attempt against the real rubric and the naming of what went wrong, which no download can do for you.

When in the year should a Shakhbout City family start looking?+

Autumn if you can. Slots in the main subjects tighten in the second term as families across this corridor and the wider Gulf reach the same point in the calendar, so the quickest route to a good tutor in February is to have asked in October. Autumn is also the cheaper window academically: there is time to change a habit rather than patch a gap, and the tier decision for a Year 10 student has not yet been fixed. By the final term the only purchase available is damage limitation.

The comparison, concluded

Shakhbout City, Khalifa City and Mohammed Bin Zayed City share one tutor supply, so comparing them on tutoring availability produces the same answer three times. What does change the answer is the exam board and tier your child is entered for, and the time they are actually at a desk. We match a specialist to the syllabus code rather than to the address, teach live one-to-one over video in Gulf Standard Time, state coverage limits before you pay, and run no home visits anywhere in the UAE. Send the code, the tier and two marked papers.
