IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Baniyas

Parents typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Baniyas are usually counting weeks, not kilometres. This page starts with the calendar: which exam series your child is actually sitting, what the final entry deadline does to your options, and what eight weeks of one-to-one work can still change. Lessons are delivered live online, on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial first so you can judge the teaching before anything is booked.

  • Every lesson runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time
  • Cambridge centres in the UAE sit June and November, not the India-only series
  • A free trial lesson comes before any paid block is agreed

IB & IGCSE in Baniyas

Start with the date, not the tutor

Most tutoring searches in Baniyas happen in the fortnight after a report card. A parent reads a 4 in IGCSE Maths or a predicted 4 in an IB HL subject, opens Google, and types a phrase with "near me" in it because proximity feels like the thing that can be fixed quickly. Proximity is rarely the constraint. The constraint is the calendar, and the calendar is already fixed by the time anyone starts searching.

Here is what that means in practice. A Year 11 student in Baniyas following Cambridge IGCSE sits papers in the June series. The school's final entry to Cambridge goes in months earlier, so by the time a report card triggers a search, the subject list, the tier and the paper combination are usually locked. What remains adjustable is how many marks that student can collect from the papers they are already entered for. An IB Diploma student in DP2 is in a tighter position again: the Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay all have internal school deadlines that arrive well before the written papers, and those deadlines are set by the coordinator, not by the IB.

So the first question a useful tutor asks is not "which topics are weak". It is "what is the next hard date". For a DP2 student in November that date is almost always an IA draft; for a Year 11 student it is a mock paper; for a Year 10 student it is the first full past paper under timed conditions. Each of those has a different shape of preparation, and treating them as the same job is the commonest way families waste money on tuition.

Baniyas adds one practical wrinkle. It is a mainland community, well inland from the island, and most secondary students here travel to school by bus along the Dubai road corridor. A bus that leaves at 06:40 and returns at 15:50 leaves a real window between roughly 16:30 and 20:00 on weekdays, but it also leaves a tired student. A session at 16:00 straight off the bus and a session at 18:30 after a break are not equally productive, and the difference shows within three weeks. Scheduling is part of the academic plan, not an administrative afterthought.

IB Gram works as a matching platform rather than a tuition centre. For families in the UAE every lesson is delivered one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the Emirates, because home visits are a service offered only in India. That is the honest position, and the rest of this page explains why it usually produces a better subject match for a Baniyas family than a short driving radius would.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes account for almost every tutoring request from Baniyas: the IB Diploma, the IB Middle Years Programme that feeds it, and international GCSE under either Cambridge or Pearson. Each has its own clock, and the clock is what decides how a term of tuition is planned.

DPAges 16–19 · DP1 and DP2

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service. Written papers sit at the end of DP2 in the May session that UAE schools use. The internal components arrive much earlier: a Maths exploration, science practical work, a Language A written task and the Extended Essay all have school-set deadlines across DP1 and early DP2. Marks lost there cannot be recovered in the exam hall.

Baniyas DP students mostly travel to IB schools on the island or in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, which means a long bus day. The practical effect is that DP2 students here arrive at tuition already behind on sleep. Sessions that work are shorter, more frequent, and pinned to the next internal deadline rather than to a topic list.

MYPAges 11–16 · MYP 1–5

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked A to D with band descriptors rather than percentages. MYP 5 ends with a Personal Project and, in some schools, eAssessment. The criterion structure is where families get confused: a child can produce competent work and still score in the middle band because the task asked for evaluation and the answer offered description. Reading the criterion wording is half the skill.

The MYP-to-DP step is the single most common reason a Baniyas family looks for a tutor in the summer term of MYP 5. Students arrive in DP1 having been assessed against criteria for five years and meet a paper that wants method marks, units and a conclusion in a fixed form. Eight weeks of structured practice in that term closes most of the gap.

IGCSEAges 14–16 · Years 10 and 11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Two-year courses examined by written paper, with Cambridge offering Core and Extended tiers in several subjects and Pearson offering a single tier in most. Cambridge syllabus codes identify the course precisely: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry. Pearson numbers run differently, 4MA1 for Mathematics and 4PH1 for Physics. Knowing the code matters because the past papers, the formula sheet and the command-term conventions all differ.

Baniyas students sit in both board camps depending on which school the family chose, and some sit subjects split across boards. A tutor who assumes Cambridge conventions for a Pearson paper will teach the wrong structure for the longer six-mark questions, and the student will lose marks for a reason nobody explains to them.

RETAKEAges 16+ · after a June result

November resit route

Cambridge runs a November series alongside June, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in November as well as May/June. For a student who misses a grade needed for a Diploma place or a sixth-form entry condition, the November route is a real second attempt rather than a wait of a full year. Entry goes through a centre, and private candidates must find a centre that accepts them.

Families in Baniyas usually discover the November option too late, because the result and the resit decision land in the same August fortnight. Planning it in advance changes the tuition shape entirely: a resit block is about paper technique and the two or three topics that actually cost the grade, not a re-teach of the course.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from this part of the mainland cluster around maths and the sciences, with English Language and Business Studies close behind. The descriptions below say what each subject assesses and where marks go missing, because that is what a first session has to diagnose.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency carries the whole course. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, which exposes any weakness in manipulation that a calculator has been hiding since MYP. HL students lose most marks in proof, complex numbers and the harder calculus, and in the exploration when the mathematics is correct but thin.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. Every paper assumes graphical calculator competence, and students who learned maths by hand often score below their ability simply because they do not use the machine fast enough. The exploration rewards a real data set and a genuine question.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended Paper 4 is where grades are decided. Recurring losses sit in bounds and accuracy, similar shapes with area and volume scale factors, and the longer problems that need two steps linked. Working shown badly costs method marks even when the final answer is right.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1

Higher and Foundation

Two equally weighted papers, both with a calculator. The Higher tier asks more algebraic proof and more multi-stage ratio than students expect from the textbook, and the mark schemes credit a clear method line that many candidates never write down.

Physics

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0625 and 4PH1

Electricity and magnetism produce the widest spread of marks at every level. IB students lose marks in the long-answer questions by describing instead of explaining; IGCSE candidates lose them on practical-method questions where a named control variable is required and only a vague answer is given.

Chemistry

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0620

Moles and stoichiometry gate everything after them, so a student weak there appears weak across the paper. Organic mechanisms at HL and electrolysis at IGCSE are the two topics that most often need rebuilding from first principles rather than revising.

Biology

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0610

The content volume misleads students into reading rather than writing. Marks go in data-analysis questions and in anything asking for a comparison with a stated measure. Command terms matter more here than in any other science: outline, describe, explain and evaluate each carry different mark expectations.

English Language and Literature

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0500 and 4EA1

Analysis of unseen text is the trainable part. Students in Baniyas who read widely in English still lose marks for writing about content rather than about technique and effect. IB Paper 1 guided analysis and the IGCSE directed writing task reward a planned structure above vocabulary.

Business Management and Business Studies

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0450

Case-study papers punish general answers. Marks come from applying a named tool to the stimulus firm and then judging it, and most candidates stop at the application step. HL has the additional burden of the extension topics and a longer research-based component.

Economics

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0455

Diagrams are the mark-earning unit. A correctly labelled and correctly shifted diagram with a sentence of explanation scores where three paragraphs of prose do not. HL calculation papers need practice under timed conditions because the arithmetic is simple but the question wording is not.

Arabic as a first and additional language

School-mandated streams and IGCSE

Arabic runs alongside the international curriculum in UAE private schools as a mandatory subject, and the first-language and additional-language routes are genuinely different courses with different expectations. Support here is about reading fluency and written register rather than conversation.

Computer Science

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0478

The written paper rewards precision about algorithms and data representation more than coding ability. IGCSE candidates lose marks on pseudocode conventions and on trace tables; IB students lose them in the paper-two option and in a solution that is built but barely documented.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of support cover almost every request from Baniyas, and the right one depends entirely on how far away the next hard date is. All three run one-to-one over live video.

Weekly one-to-one through the term

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor, working through the school's scheme of work a fortnight ahead of the class. This is the shape that suits a Year 10 or DP1 student where the next exam is a long way off and the aim is to stop a gap forming. Progress is measured against the school's own assessment points rather than an external plan.

  • Same tutor, same slot, usually 60 or 90 minutes
  • Work set between sessions and marked at the start of the next
  • Pauses available around school assessment weeks

Deadline block for an IA, EE or coursework stage

A short run of sessions timed to a specific internal deadline. The tutor works on the student's own research question, their own data and their own draft, giving feedback and teaching the criteria. No part of an assessed piece is written or produced for the student, because that is malpractice under IB rules and would put the Diploma at risk.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Method and data-handling teaching rather than content supply
  • Clear boundary stated at the first session and kept to

Intensive run before a June or November series

Two or three sessions a week for six to ten weeks, built around past papers under timed conditions. Each session marks a paper, isolates the two or three recurring mark losses, and drills those. This is the shape that fits the eight-week window most Baniyas families arrive with, and it is measured in marks per paper rather than topics covered.

  • Full past paper sat to time between sessions
  • Mark-scheme walkthrough on the student's own script
  • Final fortnight spent on paper order and timing, not new content

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Baniyas

01

What a Baniyas parent is actually asking when they search for a tutor near me

The phrase means two things at once. The literal reading is geographic: who teaches this syllabus and lives close enough to reach Baniyas on a weekday evening. The real question underneath is about reliability — can someone competent be in front of my child this week, at a time that works, without the whole thing collapsing because of traffic on the Dubai road.

Answering the geographic version honestly is awkward, because the honest answer is that the pool of people living within fifteen minutes of Baniyas who can teach IB Chemistry HL or mark a Pearson 4MA1 Higher paper to the scheme is small. Abu Dhabi's specialist tutoring supply concentrates near the island and the Khalifa City corridor, where the schools are. A family that insists on a short radius ends up choosing from whoever is available rather than from whoever knows the subject, and that trade is invisible until the third session.

The reliability version has a better answer. A live video lesson removes travel from both sides of the arrangement. The tutor is not driving across the mainland at 17:00, so the session starts when it is supposed to and does not shorten when the road is slow. The student is not waiting for a doorbell. For a household where the school bus returns at 15:50 and dinner is at 20:00, that predictability is worth more than physical presence, and it is the reason the delivery model for UAE families is online one-to-one rather than a home visit.

So the page you have landed on answers the search properly and then declines part of it. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a Baniyas address — home visits are an India-only service — and the comparison later on this page sets out what you get instead, in money, in subject match, and in how often a session actually happens as planned.

02

The term counted backwards from the exam series

Every useful tuition plan is built from the last hard date backwards, and for IGCSE candidates in Abu Dhabi that date belongs to the board. Cambridge International runs its IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. The February/March series exists but is offered to candidates in India only, so no Baniyas student sits it and no page should tell a UAE parent otherwise.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after working from the wrong one. That single operational detail matters more than most revision advice: a family that plans around a timetable copied from a different zone can lose a paper outright. Ask your school's examinations officer which zone your centre sits in, and work from the timetable they hold.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results follow in January — November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. The June picture is quicker: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students the following day. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables well ahead of a series, which is why any session plan should link the live official timetable rather than lean on dates restated on a tutoring page.

The table below is the shape of a term read backwards. Fill the date column from your own school's examinations officer and the board's published timetable, because entry deadlines are set by the centre and vary between schools.

Eight weeks: what can actually change, and what cannot

  • Movable in eight weeks: timing, method lines, accuracy, command-term response, paper order
  • Partly movable: two or three named topics, rebuilt properly rather than skimmed
  • Not movable: a two-year foundation gap across the whole subject
  • Diagnosed from a marked script in session one, not from a parent's summary

Eight weeks is the window most families arrive with, and it is enough to move some things and not others. What moves is anything mechanical: formula recall, the order a paper is attempted in, the habit of writing a method line, accuracy and rounding, calculator fluency on a Paper 2 that permits one. These are skills with short learning curves and they are worth real marks because they are lost on questions the student can already do.

What does not move in eight weeks is a missing foundation two years deep. A Year 11 student who never secured index laws will not become fluent in algebraic manipulation by June, and pretending otherwise wastes the window. The honest plan in that case is to triage: pick the topics with the highest mark density on the papers actually being sat, secure those completely, and accept that two or three topics will be left as guesses. A tutor who claims to re-teach a whole syllabus in eight weeks is selling comfort.

The diagnostic that makes this work is a marked script, not a conversation. Session one takes the student's most recent mock or past paper and goes through it question by question, separating three kinds of loss: did not know it, knew it and wrote it badly, knew it and ran out of time. Those three have different fixes, and families routinely spend eight weeks on the first when two thirds of the lost marks were in the second and third.

For a DP2 student the eight-week calculation is different again, because internal components are already submitted or nearly so. The marks still in play are in the written papers, and the fastest gains there are in Paper 2 and Paper 3 structure — knowing what an eight-mark question wants, and stopping at the point where the mark scheme stops. That is teachable quickly, and it is the part school classes rarely have time to drill.

04

What tuition costs around Abu Dhabi, and what the travel premium is paying for

Start with the cheapest end rather than the premium end, because that is where most families begin and where most of the disappointment happens. Online tutoring from university-student or generalist tutors is advertised in the UAE from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour — EdFlik publishes from AED 45 to 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. At that rate you are buying homework supervision. It can be exactly right for a Year 9 student who needs company and structure, and it is the wrong purchase for a DP2 Chemistry HL student eight weeks from papers.

A qualified subject tutor working online sits in a different band. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors are quoted from about AED 200 to 450 and upwards; TutorChase lists AED 270, and Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. At the top, named or examiner-level tutors are advertised far higher — BartyED quotes AED 650. These are market figures published by those providers, not IB Gram's prices.

In-home visits carry a premium that is easy to misread. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, and independent home tutors in the Emirates are quoted between AED 200 and 500 including travel. For a Baniyas address the travel component is not small: a tutor crossing from the island or Khalifa City in the early evening spends forty minutes or more each way, and that time is priced into the hourly rate whether or not it appears as a separate line. Monthly packages seen in the market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

What the travel premium buys is physical presence and a tutor drawn from a radius rather than from a subject. For Baniyas that radius is the problem. The table below sets the three formats against each other on the terms that matter to a mainland household.

ADEK, your child's school and what an inspection band actually tells you

Private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection outcomes. Dubai schools answer to KHDA, Sharjah schools to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah to its Department of Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah to the federal Ministry of Education. Baniyas families sit squarely under ADEK, which is worth knowing because almost no tutoring page in this market names it at all.

An inspection band is a judgement about a school, not about a cohort or a child. A strong band tells you the systems work: assessment is moderated, teaching is monitored, data on individual students exists and is used. A weaker band tells you those systems are patchy, which changes what a tutor is for. In a well-run school the tutor's job is usually narrow and technical, because the school has already identified the gap. In a school with weaker internal assessment, a tutor often has to do the diagnosis the school has not done.

Two ADEK-related points affect tutoring arrangements directly. Professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring outside school hours is expected to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct carries the same restriction. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current ADEK policy document, but the direction is clear and it means the phrase "your child's own teacher, privately" should set off an alarm rather than sound like a convenience.

IB Gram holds no licence, accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no tutoring platform in this market should claim one it cannot evidence. What a platform can do is name the regulator correctly, explain what it governs, and point you to the authority's own listing when you want to check a school.

06

Academic honesty in the final weeks, when the temptation is highest

  • Allowed: teaching content, explaining criteria, feedback on the student's own draft, method coaching
  • Not allowed: writing or rewriting any assessed text, supplying data, editing to completion
  • Test: can the student explain every sentence and every step without help
  • Ask any tutor where the line sits before the first paid session

The eight weeks before a deadline are when boundaries get tested. A DP2 student with an unfinished Maths exploration and a mock week in the same fortnight is under real pressure, and the market contains providers who will take advantage of it. One operation in this SERP advertises completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. Buying one is academic malpractice under IB rules, and the consequence falls on the student, not on the seller.

The line a tutor works to is simple to state and worth stating to the student directly. A tutor may teach the underlying content, explain what each assessment criterion asks for, read a draft the student wrote and say where it does not yet meet the criterion, ask questions that make the student find the weakness themselves, and teach method — how to structure an argument, how to present data, how to reference. A tutor may not write, rewrite, draft, produce or supply any part of an assessed piece, may not invent or supply data, and may not edit a draft into something the student could not have written.

The practical test is whether the student can explain every sentence of the submitted work and every step of the reasoning. If they cannot, the work is not theirs, and an IB coordinator conducting a viva on an Extended Essay will find out. Supervisors are experienced at spotting a draft whose voice shifts, and the authenticity declaration the student signs is not a formality.

This boundary is also the most useful thing to ask a prospective tutor about. A tutor who answers vaguely, or who offers to "polish" a draft, is offering something that puts a Diploma at risk. A tutor who states the boundary before you ask is telling you they have worked with coordinators before.

07

Permits, and how a Baniyas parent can check a tutor is working legally

Private tuition in the UAE is regulated by permit. Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 introduced the private tuition work permit, administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and university students.

Two parts of that are worth holding on to. The permit costs nothing, so a tutor who says the paperwork is too expensive is not describing the UAE system. And individuals offering private tuition without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. The ministry has not published a fine schedule — Khaleej Times reported that it did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties — so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified rather than repeated.

The official route is MoHRE's own service, listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, with a two-working-day completion time and no fee, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. A parent can reasonably ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit and under which category. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal again and needs a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute; that is a permit issued to institutions with a physical centre, not something a matching platform holds.

For an online tutor based outside the Emirates the permit question changes shape, and the honest answer is that a UAE permit governs tuition provided in the UAE. What a family can still check is subject credentials, experience with the specific board and syllabus code, and whether the tutor can talk fluently about the mark scheme for the papers their child is sitting. That last test filters more effectively than any document.

Ministry of Education equivalency, the deadline nobody counts backwards from

Families plan carefully for exams and then meet equivalency as a surprise. If your child will apply to a UAE university or needs a UAE-recognised secondary certificate, the Ministry of Education equivalency rules decide which subjects and grades count, and they do not match the entry requirements of the university prospectus.

For the British track the requirements have been set out publicly: a student must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That last clause is where a competing tutoring page in this market publishes a wrong subject count, telling UAE candidates they need six IGCSE subjects. Five is the published figure.

For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No IB points threshold has been verified from the Ministry's own pages, so this page publishes none; if your child is on the Diploma and equivalency matters, check moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority directly rather than trusting a number on a tutoring site.

What this changes about tuition planning is subject selection, not technique. A Year 10 student in Baniyas dropping a subject to lighten the load can quietly fall below the five-subject count, and nobody notices until the attestation stage. Equivalency is a process the Ministry runs, not something a tutoring platform performs or guarantees, and tuition is not a requirement for it. Knowing the rule early is what matters.

09

Ramadan, the UAE calendar and when revision actually happens

  • Move sessions to after iftar rather than pausing through Ramadan
  • Use the winter or spring break for foundation work, not for paper drills
  • Keep the final six to eight weeks for timing and mark-scheme technique
  • Online delivery follows a travelling student; a home visit does not

The Abu Dhabi academic year has features no generic revision plan accounts for. Working and school hours shorten during Ramadan, the school day ends earlier, and families restructure their evenings around iftar. For a DP2 or Year 11 student whose papers fall after Ramadan, that month sits in the middle of the most important revision block of the two-year course, and treating it as a normal six weeks is why plans fail.

What works is moving sessions rather than skipping them. A slot that ran at 17:30 moves to after iftar, often between 20:30 and 22:00, and students are noticeably sharper then than in the late afternoon of a fasting day. Session length drops and frequency holds. The alternative — pausing for a month and resuming three weeks before papers — loses the compounding that makes revision work.

Term holidays matter in the other direction. The winter break and the spring break are the only stretches in the year where a student can do sustained work on a weak topic without school homework competing for the same evening. A Baniyas family planning a June series properly uses one of those breaks for foundation repair and leaves the final eight weeks for paper technique. Families who do the reverse arrive in May still learning content.

Travel is the other common disruption. Many households here spend part of the summer and part of the winter break abroad, and a lesson delivered over live video follows the student to wherever they are, which a home visit cannot. Timezone shifts need planning rather than cancellation: a session at 18:00 Gulf Standard Time is mid-afternoon in London and late evening in Manila, and both can be made to work if the slot is agreed in advance.

Where we tutor

Baniyas and the mainland communities around it

Baniyas sits inland on the Abu Dhabi mainland, with Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Shawamekh to one side and the Dubai road corridor on the other. The notes below cover the communities whose school runs and session windows overlap with Baniyas.

Baniyas

Older mainland housing in distinct sectors, with Bawabat Al Sharq as the local centre. Most secondary students travel out by school bus, which makes the 16:30 to 20:00 window the realistic slot for weekday tuition.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Immediately adjacent, with a similar bus pattern and a heavy mix of Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum enrolment. Families here often need support split across two boards within the same household.

Al Shawamekh

Newer villa housing to the south of Baniyas. The commute to island schools is long enough that evening sessions after 18:00 are the norm rather than the exception.

Khalifa City

The nearest large school cluster, holding several British and IB schools. Baniyas families who chose a Khalifa City school face a round trip that defines their whole weekday timetable.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Villa and apartment communities on the coast road with IB provision close by. A Baniyas student at a Raha school typically gets home later than a classmate who lives in Al Zeina.

Al Reef

Near the airport, with its own small retail centre and a strong bus connection along the same corridor Baniyas uses. Session timing problems here mirror Baniyas almost exactly.

Al Falah

An Aldar community east of the airport whose families share the Baniyas pattern of travelling to schools in Khalifa City and Zayed City rather than within the community.

Hydra Village and Al Bahia

Along the coast road towards Al Raha, with a short hop to the Raha school cluster. Students here finish the school day earlier than Baniyas students on the same bus route.

Zayed City and the island

The island holds the oldest and best-known private schools in the emirate, and a Baniyas family that enrols there accepts an hour of travel each way as the price.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Baniyas

Khalifa City and the Al Raha corridor

This is the cluster most Baniyas secondary students travel to. It holds British-curriculum and IB provision within a few kilometres of each other, which is why two neighbours on the same street can be following completely different assessment calendars.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Bateen Academy

The island and Saadiyat

The longer commute, chosen for programme rather than convenience. Several of these schools run the full IB continuum, so a Baniyas family that starts here in primary tends to stay through DP2 regardless of the travel.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Al Muna Academy

Baniyas and the near mainland

Schools within a short drive of Baniyas itself, serving families who chose proximity over programme breadth. Most follow British or Indian curricula, and IGCSE entries from this cluster are concentrated in Cambridge subjects.

  • Reach British School
  • Emirates Future International Academy
  • Bright Riders School Abu Dhabi
  • Shining Star International School

Schools are named here as ecosystem context for families comparing options in and around Baniyas; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the date, not just the subject

The enquiry form asks for year group, board, syllabus code if you know it, and the next hard date — a mock, an IA deadline, a June or November entry. That last field changes the match more than anything else, because an exam-series run and a term-long support arrangement need different tutors.

  2. 02

    Send the last marked script

A recent marked mock or past paper is worth more than a description of the problem. It shows where marks were actually lost and separates knowledge gaps from technique gaps, which is the difference between a term of re-teaching and six weeks of targeted drilling.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

The trial is a real diagnostic session, not a sales call. The tutor works through part of that marked script with your child and then tells you plainly what the eight or twelve weeks should contain. You judge the teaching before any block is agreed.

  4. 04

Agree the plan and the slot

Frequency, session length and a weekday window that survives the Baniyas school bus. Plans are written against your school's assessment dates, with pauses built in around mock weeks and internal deadlines rather than discovered when they arrive.

  5. 05

    Review against marks, then adjust

Every few weeks the measure is a marked paper, not a feeling. If the recurring loss has moved, the plan moves with it; if the match is not working, you say so and a different tutor is proposed without an argument about the remaining block.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A subject specialist instead of a short radius

Matching by subject and level rather than by driving distance means a Baniyas student can work with a tutor who teaches Chemistry HL every week, rather than the best generalist who happens to cover the mainland on a Tuesday evening.

Sessions that start when they are meant to

No travel on either side means no session shortened by the Dubai road at 17:30. Over a twelve-week block the difference between a reliable sixty minutes and an unpredictable forty-five is several full sessions of teaching.

Board and syllabus code matched properly

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different courses with different paper structures and different mark-scheme conventions. The match records which one your child sits, including the split-board cases that are common in this part of Abu Dhabi.

An honest academic-honesty line

Tutors teach, explain criteria and give feedback on the student's own work. Nothing assessed is written or produced for a student, and that boundary is stated at the first session rather than negotiated at a deadline.

Market rates published, with sources

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the providers and rate tables that published them, with the month they were read. You can check them before you decide what a fair price is for your own household.

A free trial before any commitment

The first lesson is free and is a working diagnostic. If the teaching is not right for your child, nothing has been spent and no block has been bought.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Baniyas: your questions answered

Is there an IB or IGCSE tutor near me in Baniyas who can start this week?+

Usually, yes — but not by travelling to you. Matches for Baniyas families are made by subject and level and the lessons run one-to-one over live video, so the constraint is tutor availability in your subject rather than whether anyone covers the mainland. A common subject such as IGCSE Mathematics 0580 or IB Maths AA SL can normally be matched within a few days, including a free trial lesson. Narrow combinations take longer: Chemistry HL eight weeks before papers, or a less common Group 2 language, may need a week or more. Tell us the next hard date in your enquiry and the match is prioritised around it.

Which exam series will my child in Baniyas actually sit?+

Cambridge IGCSE candidates at UAE centres sit the June series, with November available as a resit or second-chance route. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to candidates in India only, so it does not apply here. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. IB Diploma students at Abu Dhabi schools sit the May session. Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that you must use the timetable for your own zone, so ask your school's examinations officer which zone your centre is in and work from the timetable they hold rather than a date copied from a website.

How many weeks before the June series should a Baniyas student start tutoring?+

For technique work, eight to twelve weeks is the useful window: long enough to rehearse timing, method lines and command-term responses across several marked papers, short enough that the drilling stays sharp. For content repair the answer is a term earlier, because rebuilding a weak foundation takes sustained weekly work rather than an intensive run. If you are already inside eight weeks, the plan should be triage rather than coverage — identify the topics with the highest mark density on the papers being sat, secure those completely, and accept that two or three will be left. That is a smaller promise than a full re-teach and it produces more marks.

Do you send a tutor to a villa in Baniyas or Mohammed Bin Zayed City?+

No. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is a service offered only in India. Every lesson for a family in Baniyas or the neighbouring mainland communities runs one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason is practical rather than ideological: the specialist tutor pool for IB and IGCSE subjects in Abu Dhabi clusters near the island and the school corridor, so matching by driving radius would mean choosing from a much smaller group of people. Online delivery also removes the forty minutes each way that a mainland visit costs, which is why the market prices in-home sessions higher.

What does the in-home travel premium really buy a family on the mainland?+

Physical presence, and a tutor chosen from whoever covers your area. Published market rates put in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's Dubai table, and independent home tutors in the Emirates are quoted between AED 200 and 500 including travel. Qualified online subject tutors sit lower, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. For a Baniyas address the travel component is real — forty minutes or more each way from the island at 17:00 — and it is inside the hourly rate whether or not anyone itemises it. Whether that is worth paying depends on whether your child needs supervision or expertise.

My child is in DP2 and the Maths exploration is not finished. What can a tutor do?+

A tutor can teach the mathematics the exploration needs, explain what each assessment criterion is asking for in plain language, read what your child has written and say where it does not yet meet the criterion, and coach the process of refining a research question into something answerable. A tutor cannot write any part of it, cannot supply data, and cannot edit a draft into work your child could not have produced. That boundary is set by IB academic-honesty rules and the consequences of crossing it fall on the student. The practical test is whether your child can explain every step of the submitted exploration unaided.

Can sessions fit around the Baniyas school bus and a long commute?+

That is the main scheduling problem for this community, and it is solvable. Secondary students bussing to Khalifa City, Al Raha or the island typically get home between 15:30 and 16:15, and a session straight off the bus is less productive than one after a break and some food. Most Baniyas families settle on a weekday slot between 17:30 and 20:00, with longer weekend sessions for paper practice that needs an uninterrupted two hours. Because lessons run over live video there is no travel on the tutor's side, so a 17:30 start is a 17:30 start rather than an estimate that depends on the Dubai road.

Which regulator oversees my child's school in Baniyas?+

The Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and publishes its own inspection outcomes. Dubai schools sit under KHDA, Sharjah schools under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah under its Department of Knowledge, and schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the federal Ministry of Education. ADEK is worth naming because almost no tutoring site in this market mentions it. IB Gram holds no licence, accreditation or partnership from ADEK or any other regulator, and you should treat any claim of regulator approval by a tutoring provider with caution.

Do private tutors working with Baniyas families need a UAE permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without it exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; the ministry has not published a fine schedule, so any amount quoted online is unverified. The application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service, listed with no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

Can a Baniyas teacher tutor my child if they teach at the same school?+

You should avoid that arrangement. Professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi prohibit teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. This is press-reported and worth verifying against the current ADEK policy document, but the direction is unambiguous. Beyond the rule there is a practical reason: a tutor who also marks your child's school assessments cannot give independent feedback on them, which removes most of the value of having a second pair of eyes.

How many IGCSE subjects must a Baniyas student pass for Ministry equivalency?+

Five. The published British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, together with one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking tutoring page in this market states that UAE candidates need six IGCSE subjects, which is wrong. Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process that no tutoring provider performs or guarantees, and tuition is not required for it — verify your own case on moe.gov.ae.

What should a first session look like if we are eight weeks from papers?+

It should open the student's most recent marked script and work through it question by question, sorting every lost mark into one of three boxes: did not know it, knew it but wrote it badly, knew it but ran out of time. Those three have different remedies, and families often spend the whole window on the first when most of the marks sat in the second and third. By the end of the session the tutor should be able to name the two or three recurring losses and say what the next six weeks will drill. If a first session is spent on general discussion, ask for the script to be looked at instead.

How do lessons work during Ramadan for a student in Baniyas?+

Sessions move rather than stop. School hours shorten during Ramadan and household routines reorganise around iftar, so the slot that ran at 17:30 usually shifts to somewhere between 20:30 and 22:00, where students on a fasting day are measurably sharper than in the late afternoon. Session length often drops while frequency holds, which keeps the compounding that makes revision work. Pausing for the month and resuming a few weeks before papers is the pattern that costs the most, particularly for a DP2 or Year 11 student whose series falls soon after. The slot is agreed in advance rather than renegotiated weekly.

What happens if no Baniyas-matched specialist is free for a niche subject?+

You are told, rather than matched with whoever is available. For a niche combination — a less common Group 2 language, a specific Pearson science option, or Chemistry HL in the weeks before papers — the honest options are a short wait for the right tutor, a different tutor with a strong adjacent specialism and a clear statement of what they do not cover, or a recommendation to look elsewhere. Quietly substituting a generalist is how families lose a term. Because delivery is over live video the pool is not limited to people who can reach the Abu Dhabi mainland, which makes a genuine match more likely than a radius search would.

Is a resit in the November series worth planning for before results arrive?+

Often, yes, because the result and the resit decision land in the same fortnight in August and a rushed decision is a worse one. Cambridge runs a November series and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE is available in November as well as May/June, with November results following in January — November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. If a grade is a condition for a Diploma place or sixth-form entry, knowing the route in advance means the plan can start immediately rather than after three weeks of deliberation. A resit block is about paper technique and the two or three topics that cost the grade, not a re-teach.

How do we judge a tutor before committing money?+

Use the free trial as a test of three things. Can the tutor talk specifically about the paper structure and mark-scheme conventions for your child's board and syllabus code, not just the subject. Can they look at a marked script and name the recurring loss rather than describe the topic as weak. And will they state the academic-honesty boundary on coursework before being asked. A tutor who passes those three is worth paying; one who talks mainly about motivation and rapport may still be right for a younger student, but is unlikely to add marks in an exam year.

Start from the next hard date in Baniyas

Send the year group, the board and syllabus code if you have it, and the one date that matters next — a mock, an IA deadline, a June or November entry. Attach the most recent marked paper if you can find it. The free trial lesson is a working diagnostic with the proposed tutor, who will look at that script with your child and then tell you plainly what the coming weeks should contain and what they cannot change. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around the Baniyas school run rather than against it. Nothing is booked until you have seen the teaching.
