IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Wahda

Most families looking for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Wahda are standing between two fixed points: a mock paper that has already been marked, and a study-leave date that is already on the school calendar. The weeks in between are the only variable left. IB Gram matches central Abu Dhabi families with IGCSE subject specialists who teach one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, planning from the mock evidence rather than from the textbook.

  • Specialists matched by syllabus code and tier, not by subject label
  • Planning starts from a marked mock paper, not a conversation
  • Evening slots that suit dense apartment living and shared lifts
  • Free trial lesson before any block of sessions is agreed

IB & IGCSE in Al Wahda

The mock has already told you what to buy

Al Wahda is central Abu Dhabi: dense apartment blocks around Al Wahda Mall and Hazza Bin Zayed Street, walkable, close to the Al Mushrif and Al Nahyan school belt, with a mix of British, Indian and American curriculum schools inside a short drive. Families here tend to search for a tutor at a specific moment in the year, which is the fortnight after the mock papers come back. That timing is useful, because a marked mock is the best diagnostic instrument a parent will ever be handed free of charge.

Most families use it wrongly. The mock gets read as a verdict — a number, a disappointment, a reason to act — rather than as data. Read as data it says something much more specific: which questions were left blank, which were attempted and abandoned, which earned partial credit, and where in the paper the timing collapsed. Those four patterns point at four different interventions, and only one of them is more revision.

The second fixed point is study leave. Whatever date your child's school has set, teaching effectively ends there and the structure that was holding a revision habit together disappears with it. Which means a block of tutoring should be planned to finish before study leave starts, with the leave itself planned separately and in advance. Families who discover this in the first week of study leave lose the most valuable fortnight of the year to improvisation.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the country; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For a family in a central Abu Dhabi apartment that removes a real practical irritation — a stranger arriving at a specific hour, parking, the household rearranging itself around a visit — and replaces it with a fixed slot that starts on the minute agreed, with the same screen in front of both people.

This page is built around the stretch between those two dates. How to read a mock paper properly, with a table that maps symptoms to causes. How to plan study leave week by week instead of day by day. How to use the November series deliberately rather than as a failure option. What the Ramadan weeks genuinely do to revision capacity. And what central Abu Dhabi families are actually paying, with every figure attributed to whoever published it.

One framing note. Nothing here promises a grade, because nobody can. What a focused block between the mock and study leave reliably does is recover marks the student is already capable of earning and has been losing to technique. In a subject assessed entirely by written papers that is a substantial amount, and it is measurable, which is why every plan on this page ends with a second marked paper rather than an opinion.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Support divides by how much time remains rather than by ability. These three stages cover almost every request from central Abu Dhabi, and each has a different honest answer about what is achievable.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10: before the mock exists

Content is being delivered, usually once, and the internal examination at the end of the year often doubles as the tier recommendation. Tutoring here is consolidation rather than rescue, and it has the best return in the whole pipeline because every gain compounds across the remaining eighteen months. Fortnightly is usually enough.

In central Abu Dhabi many Year 10 students have moved schools at least once, often between curricula. The gaps that creates are rarely conceptual; they are coverage gaps, created by two schools teaching the same specification in a different order. Mapping them against the actual syllabus takes one session and saves a term of guessing.

Y11 autumnAges 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11 up to the mock

The last stretch where content teaching is genuinely useful. A block finishing before the mock produces a mock result that reflects what the student knows rather than what they have forgotten, which makes the mock a better diagnostic and the predicted grade more accurate. Both of those matter for sixth-form applications.

Entries, including tier, are submitted to the board months before the papers. Families wanting a tier change need marked evidence before that submission, which means the autumn term, not the spring. Schools in this emirate are generally reasonable where the evidence exists.

Y11 springAges 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11 from the mock to study leave

The window this page is about. Content teaching is mostly over; the work is recovering marks the student can already earn. Method lines, command terms, units, significant figures, question order and timing. Narrow, diagnosable and fast-moving, provided the diagnosis comes from marked work rather than from the student's own account of what is hard.

Abu Dhabi schools set their own study-leave dates and their own mock calendars, so the length of this window varies by school rather than by emirate. Ask for the study-leave date in writing before buying a block, so the block can be scoped to finish before it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subject mix from central Abu Dhabi leans towards mathematics and the sciences, with English Language and Business behind them. Each entry below names the component where the marks are actually decided.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended · Edexcel 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Two written papers, no coursework. Lost marks concentrate in non-calculator arithmetic, unwritten method lines and the combined-topic final parts of long questions. Tier sets the ceiling, so the tier on the entry is worth confirming in writing.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Electricity and the practical-skills paper decide most grades. Writing a method precisely enough for a stranger to repeat it is a writing skill, and it is trainable in a small number of sessions with marked examples.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Moles calculations, ionic equations and organic pathways separate the upper grades. The recurring loss is a correct calculation presented without units or significant figures, costing two marks a question while the chemistry was understood.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

Highest content volume and the subject where command terms matter most: a question asking for an explanation and receiving a description scores nothing. Transport, enzymes and inheritance recur as loss points year after year.

English Language

First Language 0500 / 0990

Directed writing and composition carry the paper. Strong readers still lose marks for not planning, so the response drifts from the audience and purpose the question specified. Timed writing with criteria annotation moves this fastest.

English as a Second Language

0510 / 0511

A separate qualification from First Language English with different recognition. Worth checking which is on the entry, because the difference affects sixth-form and university conversations later.

Business Studies

Cambridge 0450

Application to the case study in the insert is most of the paper. Students who revise definitions plateau and stay there; students who practise applying three concepts to an unfamiliar business move several grades.

Economics

Cambridge 0455

Diagram accuracy plus evaluation. Marks are lost on unlabelled axes and on answers that explain without ever weighing one effect against another, which is what the top band asks for.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Pseudocode, trace tables and a content-heavy theory paper. Writing code by hand on paper is the skill nobody practises voluntarily and the one the paper actually tests.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language streams

Required alongside the international curriculum under the federal position, taught in separate streams for Arab and non-Arab students, and excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts for British-track equivalency.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Between a mock and study leave there are only three sensible shapes for a block of tutoring. The difference between them is what the mock paper showed, not what the family can afford.

Technique block to study leave

A finite run of weekly sessions scoped to finish before the school's study-leave date. Built entirely from the mock: the three or four recurring error types, one at a time, with a second timed paper at the midpoint to test whether the diagnosis held.

  • Session count fixed against the study-leave date
  • No new content introduced after the midpoint
  • Weekly timed section marked against the published scheme
  • Ends with the student able to name their own weakest topic

Single-topic recovery, two or three sessions

For the student whose mock was good except in one place. Circle theorems, moles calculations, the practical-skills method answer, cumulative frequency. Scoped from the paper, ended when the question type can be answered unaided, and considerably cheaper than a term.

  • Topic chosen from the marked paper, not from preference
  • Fixed number of sessions, agreed before starting
  • Finishes with an unaided attempt at the same question type
  • Can be repeated for a second topic without a new commitment

Study-leave supervision, short and frequent

Three or four short sessions a week during study leave itself, acting as the structure the school timetable used to provide. Each one opens with marking what was set and closes by setting the next piece. Nothing is taught; everything is checked.

  • Short sessions, high frequency, fixed times each morning
  • Work set and marked rather than explained
  • Keeps a revision timetable honest without policing it
  • Ends on the day the first paper is sat

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Wahda

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in Al Wahda can change after the mock

  • After the mock, the work is recovery of earnable marks, not new content
  • Technique losses are not fixed by more revision hours
  • A marked paper names the interventions; the student's account does not
  • Where a third of the syllabus is missing, say so and replan

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Wahda, in the ordinary sense of the phrase, is a subject specialist working one-to-one with one child on the specification that child is entered for. IB Gram provides that over live video to families in central Abu Dhabi. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is a service we offer only in India. For a household in an apartment block the online format also removes the logistics of a visitor arriving at a fixed hour, which several families here mention before we do.

The question that matters more is what the remaining weeks can achieve. After a mock and before study leave, content teaching is largely finished. What remains is the gap between what the student knows and what they scored, and in a subject assessed entirely by written papers that gap is usually substantial. It is made of unwritten method lines, command terms answered loosely, units omitted, questions attempted in printed order, and two or three topics quietly avoided for a year.

All of those are diagnosable from a marked paper and fixable in a known number of sessions. None of them are fixable by revising harder, which is the advice a disappointing mock usually produces. That distinction is the single most useful thing on this page: more hours of the same activity will not change a mark that is being lost to technique, and more hours is what most families instinctively buy.

What a block in this window cannot do is teach a specification that was never covered. Where the mock shows a third of the syllabus missing, the honest options are a longer plan, a conversation with the school about tier, or a deliberate use of the November series. We will say which of those applies after reading the paper rather than selling a block that cannot work.

02

Reading a mock paper properly: symptoms and causes

A mock mark on its own is almost useless. The same mark can be produced by four completely different students: one who ran out of time, one who avoided a topic, one who understood everything and wrote too little, and one who genuinely does not know the content. Each needs a different intervention, and buying the wrong one wastes the weeks that remain.

The way to tell them apart is to go through the paper question by question with four labels: blank, attempted and abandoned, partially credited, and completed but wrong. The distribution of those labels is the diagnosis. Blanks clustered at the end of the paper mean timing. Blanks scattered through it mean topic avoidance. Partial credit everywhere means method and communication. Completed but wrong means a genuine content gap, and it is the only one of the four that needs teaching rather than training.

The table below is the version of this we use in a first session. It is worth doing even if you never hire anybody, because it converts an upsetting number into a short list of actions. Most parents in central Abu Dhabi who do this find two of the four patterns dominate, and neither of them is the one they assumed.

One practical caution: do this with the paper and the mark scheme, not with the grade sheet. Schools in this emirate vary in how much detail they return, and a grade without the script tells you nothing about where the marks went. It is reasonable to ask the subject teacher to see the marked script.

03

Planning study leave week by week rather than day by day

Study leave removes the one thing that was keeping a fragile revision habit alive: a timetable someone else wrote. Students who do well during it are rarely the most able; they are the ones whose week had a shape before it started. Students who struggle usually describe the same experience, which is a plan made each morning and abandoned by lunchtime.

The shape that works is weekly rather than daily, and it is built around the examination order rather than around subject preference. Each week gets a primary subject and a secondary one, mornings go to the harder subject because that is when concentration exists, and afternoons go to paper practice rather than to reading. One full timed paper a week, properly marked, is worth more than six hours of notes.

Two things need protecting deliberately. The first is sleep, which collapses first and takes everything else with it. The second is the afternoon of the day before a paper, which should be light: a confident student goes into a paper having rehearsed, not having crammed. Families in central Abu Dhabi with a short commute have an advantage here, because the morning is genuinely usable rather than spent in a car.

The table below is a template rather than a prescription. Write your own version with your child, on paper, before leave starts. The act of writing it together is most of the value, because a plan the student helped build is a plan they will follow for more than two days.

A STUDY-LEAVE WEEK, TEMPLATE

04

Using the November series deliberately

Both main boards run a November session, and UAE candidates can use it. In practice most families only hear about it after a disappointing summer result, which turns a planning option into a consolation prize. Treated deliberately, it is a genuinely useful route and sometimes the better one.

Three situations make it worth raising early with the school. A student on a tier that caps the grade below what they need, where sitting June as a baseline and targeting a focused November entry produces a better final outcome than a frantic spring. A student who has missed substantial teaching through illness or a mid-year school move, where compressing a year's content into one term is not realistic. And a student taking a large number of subjects, where spreading the load across two sittings protects the grades that matter most.

There are real costs to weigh. Entry fees for a private or additional candidate, a summer and autumn term spent still working on a subject the cohort has finished, and the sixth-form application timetable, which may want results before November grades exist. Those are conversations for the examinations officer rather than for a tutor, and they should happen before the June entry rather than after the result.

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the November window has historically run from late October into November, with the November 2026 final timetable finishing on 19 November 2026 and November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026. Cambridge candidates sit June and November; Cambridge's February and March sitting is offered to India only, which is why a page quoting those dates to a UAE family is quoting the wrong country.

Ramadan, the shortened school day and revision capacity

  • Shortened days reduce energy rather than increasing usable hours
  • Fix post-Iftar or early-evening slots in advance, not weekly
  • Plan maintenance weeks explicitly and tell the student they are lighter
  • Map the whole term on one page before buying any sessions

A revision plan written without the local calendar beside it falls apart quickly, and in this country the Ramadan weeks are the part most often planned badly. The school day shortens, which reads on paper as extra study time. In practice children come home earlier with less energy, and the hours that appear are not hours of usable concentration.

What works is deciding in advance that the period is a maintenance phase rather than a push. Shorter sessions, placed either in the early evening or after Iftar, agreed as a fixed arrangement rather than negotiated each week. Light retrieval practice rather than new content. And an explicit acknowledgement to the student that the fortnight is deliberately lighter, which removes the guilt that otherwise makes the whole plan feel like a failure.

The weeks either side then carry the heavier work, and they should be planned to do so from the start. A family that maps six real teaching weeks and two maintenance weeks gets more done than one that optimistically maps eight and loses three to a holiday, a school event and a flat fortnight. It also costs less, because maintenance weeks can be shorter and less frequent.

The broader principle applies to the whole Abu Dhabi school year. Mark the mock window, the winter break, the Ramadan weeks and the study-leave date on one page before buying any block of tutoring. Almost every complaint we hear about a block not working traces back to it being bought for weeks that did not really exist.

06

What central Abu Dhabi families pay, and for what

Published market rates, read in October 2026, make the decision clearer than the brochures do. At the entry level EdFlik advertises online sessions from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit higher, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IGCSE and IB tutors are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270, and premium examiner-led provision advertised as high as AED 650. In-home visits including travel run from about AED 180 to 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common band at AED 180 to 350.

The question is not which number is lowest but which product matches the problem. At entry-level rates a family is usually buying supervision and company, which genuinely helps a disorganised student and does almost nothing for one losing method marks on long questions. At qualified rates you are buying somebody who knows the specification. At specialist rates you are buying somebody who knows the paper, the mark scheme and what a mock paper means. A mock showing partial credit everywhere needs the third category, and buying the first instead is the most common false economy in this market.

Monthly framing helps families here more than hourly framing, because central Abu Dhabi households are budgeting against school fees that are already substantial. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. Advertised monthly packages in this market have included AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

IB Gram publishes no tariff on these pages. The rate depends on subject scarcity, level and session length, and it is quoted after a free trial lesson so both sides know what is being bought. Every figure above belongs to the provider or survey named next to it, with the month it was read.

07

Permits, materials and claims nobody should make

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • ADEK rules bar teachers from tutoring their own enrolled students
  • Board materials are cited and linked, never copied or supplied
  • No claimed approval, no invented statistics, no grade guarantees

Private tutoring in this country is regulated, and a parent is entitled to ask about it. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so a page quoting an amount is not citing anything.

Abu Dhabi adds a rule that matters in a district as school-dense as this one. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a comparable restriction. In a neighbourhood where several families use the same school, the apparently convenient arrangement is also the one to avoid.

On materials, the position is simple. We do not reproduce or supply Cambridge, Pearson or International Baccalaureate syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. They belong to the boards and are published on the boards' own sites; the correct thing to do is cite and link them. A provider advertising a library of copied mark schemes is advertising a copyright problem.

Finally the claims. IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, Ministry of Education, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation, licence or partnership, and claims none. We name no school as a client or partner. We publish no rating or satisfaction statistic, because we cannot produce the number, date and method behind one. And we do not guarantee grades. Each of those four things is done by pages currently competing for this search, and each is a liability for the family as much as for the provider.

Where we tutor

Central Abu Dhabi and the districts around Al Wahda

Al Wahda sits inside a dense, walkable part of the city, which changes the logistics in a specific way: commutes are short, evenings are crowded, and the constraint is household space and shared lifts rather than distance. These are the districts the conversation usually involves.

Al Wahda

Apartment blocks around the mall and Hazza Bin Zayed Street, with several schools within a short drive. Arrivals are early by Abu Dhabi standards, so a 4.15pm or 4.30pm session is realistic on most weekdays.

Al Nahyan

Immediately adjacent and functionally part of the same catchment. Families often share lifts between the two districts, which makes a fixed weekly slot easier to keep than in the outer suburbs.

Al Mushrif

Villa districts with several established schools. The closest thing central Abu Dhabi has to an easy school run, and the group of families with the widest choice of session times.

Madinat Zayed and the Tourist Club area

Dense, central and well connected. Short runs mean the limiting factor here is sibling scheduling rather than traffic, which online slots solve more easily than a visiting tutor can.

Al Bateen

A short drive west, with a different school cluster. Relevant to Al Wahda families who kept a school place after moving across the city.

Mussafah and Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Out along the mainland, where many of the Indian-curriculum and value-sector schools sit. Bus runs are long enough that children arrive tired, which argues for shorter, more frequent sessions.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

The corridor families cross the bridge for. A long run from the centre, and the usual reason a central Abu Dhabi household ends up taking a weekend slot instead of a weekday one.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked mock, not the grade

The script with the marks on it is worth more than any description of the problem. Add the syllabus code, the tier and your school's study-leave date. From those four things we can say what the remaining weeks can realistically achieve before anybody is matched.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson built on that paper

The trial runs on questions from your child's own mock, so you watch the diagnosis rather than hear a summary of it. Afterwards you should have three named error types written down. If the tutor is not right, we match again rather than asking you to continue.

  3. 03

A block scoped to the study-leave date

The plan states the number of sessions, the order of the error types, and the week it finishes — before study leave, not during it. It also states what the block will not attempt, so nothing is discovered in week six.

  4. 04

Weekly teaching with marked work between

Fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time over live video. Short homework aimed at the named error type, marked at the start of the next session. One timed section a week, annotated against the published mark scheme.

  5. 05

A second paper, then an honest recommendation

At the midpoint a second timed paper is marked the same way and compared with the mock by topic. The review says continue, change or stop, and stopping is a recommendation we make when the evidence supports it.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The mock is treated as evidence

Planning starts from a marked script and a mark scheme rather than from a conversation about confidence. That is the difference between a block that targets the actual losses and a term of general support that leaves the paper unchanged.

Blocks end before study leave

A plan scoped against your school's own study-leave date finishes while it can still be used. Study leave is then planned separately, as a structure problem, which is what it actually is.

The November route raised early

Where a tier or a missed term makes June unrealistic, we say so and set out the November option with its real costs. It is a planning route in this country, not a consolation prize, and raising it in the autumn is worth far more than hearing about it in August.

Short options offered first

Where the mock points at one topic, two or three sessions get recommended rather than a term. A provider who only sells terms has an incentive to find term-sized problems in every paper.

Every figure attributed

The dirham bands here carry the name of whoever published them and the month they were read. Three of the strongest pages for this search publish no price at all, and two quote United States dollars to families who pay in dirhams.

Scheduling for a dense central district

Short commutes make early slots possible and crowded apartments make a visiting tutor awkward. Online delivery fits the way this neighbourhood actually lives, including two siblings taught consecutively on one evening.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Wahda: your questions answered

My child's mock mark was far below the predicted grade. What should we do first?+

Ask to see the marked script rather than the grade sheet, and go through it with four labels: blank, attempted and abandoned, partially credited, and completed but wrong. The distribution tells you which of four completely different problems you have. Blanks at the end mean timing; scattered blanks mean avoided topics; partial credit everywhere means method and command terms; completed but wrong means a genuine content gap. Only the last one needs teaching. The other three need training, which is faster and cheaper.

How many weeks are there really between the mock and study leave at an Al Wahda school?+

Ask for the study-leave date in writing, then count school weeks and subtract the holidays, any school event and the Ramadan fortnight if it falls inside the window. Families in central Abu Dhabi commonly find an apparent ten weeks becomes six or seven usable ones. That number decides whether a block can teach content or only recover technique, and it should be established before any sessions are bought rather than discovered in the middle of them.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to an apartment in Al Wahda?+

No. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen for working through paper questions. For an apartment household that removes the logistics of a visitor arriving at a set hour, and in exchange your child is taught by a specialist in their exact syllabus rather than by whoever is available within a short drive.

Is study leave better spent with a tutor or alone?+

Usually a mix, weighted differently from what families expect. Study leave is a structure problem rather than a knowledge problem, so the useful support is short and frequent rather than long and instructional: three or four brief sessions a week that open by marking what was set and close by setting the next piece. Nothing is taught. What that buys is a week with a shape, which is the single biggest predictor of how a student performs during leave, more than ability.

Should we plan for the November series before the June papers are sat?+

If either of two things is true, yes. Your child is on a tier that caps the grade below what they need, or substantial teaching has been missed through illness or a mid-year move. In both cases sitting June as a baseline and targeting a focused November entry often produces a better final result than a frantic spring. Raise it with the examinations officer early, because entry costs, whether the school enters November at all, and the sixth-form application timetable all need checking first.

Which exam series do candidates at central Abu Dhabi schools sit?+

Cambridge IGCSE and O Level candidates sit the June series, with November available as the resit route. Cambridge offers its February and March sitting to India only, so any page quoting those dates to a UAE family has the wrong country. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones with its own timetable version, and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong one, so confirm the zone with your school.

Can a tutor persuade the school to move my child to the Extended tier?+

No, and nobody should offer to. The tier decision belongs to the school and is submitted to a board deadline months before the papers. What a tutor can produce is evidence: two timed sections and a diagnostic session marked against the published scheme, showing whether your child can access the harder paper. A conversation backed by that is different from one backed by a parental impression. After the entry deadline the question is closed and the honest plan is to use the available ceiling fully.

How should revision work during the Ramadan weeks in Abu Dhabi?+

Treat the period as deliberate maintenance rather than as a push. Shorter sessions, fixed in advance for the early evening or after Iftar rather than renegotiated each week, with light retrieval practice instead of new content. Shortened school days produce earlier arrivals and lower energy, not extra usable hours. Tell your child explicitly that the fortnight is lighter by design, because the guilt of an abandoned plan does more damage than the lost hours, and plan the weeks either side to carry the heavier work.

What does a block of IGCSE tutoring cost for a family in central Abu Dhabi?+

Working from published market figures as at October 2026: qualified online subject tutors advertise from around AED 150 to 300 an hour and specialists from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, while entry-level online sessions run from roughly AED 33 to 65 and in-home visits including travel from about AED 180 to 500. One weekly hour across eight weeks therefore spans a wide range. Those are other providers' published rates. IB Gram quotes after a free trial, because the right figure depends on scarcity and level.

Is a cheap tutor a false economy if the mock showed partial credit everywhere?+

In that specific case, usually yes. Partial credit spread across long questions is a mark-scheme problem: the student understands the material and is not writing what earns the marks. Diagnosing and fixing that needs somebody who knows the published scheme for that specification, which is not what entry-level rates buy. Where the mock shows disorganisation or unfinished homework rather than lost method marks, a cheaper supervisory arrangement can be perfectly sensible. Match the level of purchase to what the script actually shows.

Will a tutor help my child with coursework in subjects that have it?+

Within a firm boundary. A tutor teaches the skill the component assesses, explains the published criteria and what their command words mean, questions the student about their own reasoning, and gives feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor does not write the work, does not rewrite sentences and does not supply material for submission. We state that before coursework support starts, because the consequence of crossing the line falls on the student rather than on the tutor or the family.

Does a tutor working with a student in Al Wahda need a UAE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, free of charge, for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without one exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any page quoting a figure with suspicion.

Is IB Gram approved by ADEK or by the Ministry of Education?+

No, and we will not imply otherwise. IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, Ministry of Education, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation, licence or partnership. You may see that claim on competing pages; it is the most dangerous sentence available in this market. A KHDA educational services permit is a specific instrument issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai. What we do hold is subject specialists, and what you can check is whether they know your child's syllabus.

What should the first session produce for a Year 11 student in central Abu Dhabi?+

A short written list of named error types drawn from the marked mock, and a clear statement of what the remaining weeks can and cannot achieve. Not reassurance, and not a plan to work through the textbook from the current chapter. You should recognise your child in the list, and your child should be able to say what their weakest area is without being prompted. If none of that appears in the first hour, the arrangement is supervision rather than teaching.

Send the marked paper and the study-leave date

Those two documents are enough for us to be useful. From the script we can name the error types that are costing marks; from the study-leave date we can scope a block that finishes while it can still be used. We will match an IGCSE specialist in that subject and specification, run a free trial lesson on your child's own questions, and recommend the smallest block the evidence supports — including the November route where that is genuinely the better plan. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time for families across Al Wahda and central Abu Dhabi.
