IB MYP Mathematics Tutor in Abu Dhabi

The price of an IB MYP mathematics tutor in Abu Dhabi is not one number. It moves with the year group, with the standard or extended route, with whether a visiting tutor is driving to Khalifa City or Al Shamkha, and with how close the on-screen examinations are. This page publishes the bands in dirhams, names who published each figure, and shows what a month of sessions realistically buys at each tier. Lessons are one-to-one and online, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Dirham bands by year group, each attributed to its published source
  • Four maths criteria named, with what moving each one costs in hours
  • Sessions run online on Gulf Standard Time around an Abu Dhabi school week
  • No travel loading in the rate, because nobody is driving to your community

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Price first, because that is what the search is really asking

Parents looking for an IB MYP mathematics tutor in Abu Dhabi almost always arrive with two questions and ask only one of them. The asked question is whether tutoring will help. The unasked one is what it costs, and most providers in this market answer neither: three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and two of the remaining ones quote United States dollars. So this page starts with dirhams, by year group, with the source of every figure named.

The published spread in the UAE market runs from about AED 33-65 an hour at the budget online end, through AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, to AED 200-450 and above for an IB or IGCSE specialist. Bestimate's 2026 rate work puts a visiting tutor at AED 180-350, with some home tutors advertising up to AED 500 once travel is loaded in, and a named premium provider publishes AED 650. Converted to months, Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions are roughly AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year work.

What that spread hides is that MYP mathematics is not one product. A Year 7 student consolidating fractions, ratio and the beginnings of algebraic notation is a different purchase from a Year 11 on the extended route preparing for an on-screen examination and deciding whether Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is realistic in two years' time. The first needs patient consolidation and can sit comfortably at the mid band. The second needs someone who has marked criterion B investigations and knows the Diploma doors each route opens, and that person is at the specialist band for a reason.

Three local factors then move the number again. Travel is the largest: a tutor driving from the island to Al Shamkha, Al Samha or Al Falah prices the journey into the hour, and for mathematics that journey buys nothing a shared screen does not already provide. Timing is the second, because demand concentrates before each school's reporting rounds and before the on-screen examination window, and a family buying in those weeks is choosing from a thinner pool. Household structure is the third: two children in different MYP years is a different budget conversation from one, and it is one of the few places in this market where real savings exist.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For MYP mathematics that removes a cost rather than a capability. A shared screen with a writing surface shows working better than a notebook angled across a kitchen table, the session leaves a record, and the slot can move when a school bus from the island arrives late into Khalifa City. What you give up is a car in your driveway. What you gain is the ability to match on criterion B experience rather than on driving distance.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

MYP mathematics sits in the middle of a ten-year arc, and what a tutoring hour should cost depends heavily on which end of that arc your child is at. The programmes below are described by what the mathematics is being assessed for, since that is what determines who can teach it and what they charge.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Mathematics is assessed against four criteria, each scored one to eight, with no percentages on the report. In MYP 4 and 5 the subject splits into standard and extended routes. Optional on-screen examinations are available in the final year. The criterion that distinguishes MYP mathematics from every national curriculum is criterion B, which requires a student to investigate a pattern and justify a general rule rather than apply a taught method.

Abu Dhabi MYP cohorts are spread between long-established schools on the island and fast-growing ones along the Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas corridor. In newer cohorts a whole year group may be taught by one mathematics teacher, so a student who does not follow that teacher's approach to algebraic proof has nowhere else in the building to go, which is the commonest reason a family here starts paying for maths.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Mathematics divides into Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at Standard and Higher Level, with a twenty-mark exploration worth about a fifth of the subject grade. Which of those four combinations a student can realistically take is largely decided by what happened in MYP 4 and 5, which is why the extended route matters financially as well as academically.

Abu Dhabi Diploma candidates applying to engineering and medicine routes at UAE and overseas universities commonly need Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. A student arriving from the MYP standard route into that course is the single most expensive catch-up in the whole sequence, and it is avoidable two years earlier.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Mathematics is taught through inquiry with no criterion marking and no examinations. What matters for the years that follow is fluency and number sense: a Year 6 student who is still counting on fingers for multiplication facts will struggle with criterion A in MYP 2, not because the mathematics is hard but because the arithmetic is consuming all the attention.

PYP provision in Abu Dhabi is distributed across community schools in Khalifa City, Al Reef, Al Falah and the newer mainland developments. Tutoring at this stage is cheap because any competent primary teacher can deliver it, and it is the best value in the whole sequence if a gap has already appeared.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

The alternative many Abu Dhabi families meet because a sibling or a previous school used it. IGCSE mathematics is examined by written papers with Core and Extended tiers at Cambridge, and Foundation and Higher tiers at Pearson, with syllabus codes such as 0580 and 4MA1. It rewards procedural fluency far more heavily than MYP criterion B does.

Families moving a child between an IB and a British school mid-secondary in Abu Dhabi usually discover the difference through criterion B or through its absence. Cambridge runs June and November series and Pearson runs May/June and November, and both publish live timetables that should be read directly rather than restated.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is the MYP mathematics content Abu Dhabi families most often pay to fix, with a note on what each topic actually costs in sessions. Topics are listed by the branch of mathematics rather than by year, because a Year 9 gap in proportional reasoning is a Year 7 topic that nobody closed.

Number: fractions, ratio and proportional reasoning

MYP 1-3 · standard and extended

The most cost-effective thing to fix in the whole programme. A proportional reasoning gap resurfaces in similarity, in rates of change and in every real-life application task, so two or three hours spent here in Year 8 removes a recurring cost for the next four years.

Algebraic manipulation and notation

MYP 2-5 · standard and extended

Expanding, factorising, rearranging and the discipline of writing an equals sign that means something. Students lose criterion C marks here for presentation that looks careless but is actually conceptual: a line of working that does not follow from the one above it.

Linear and simultaneous equations

MYP 2-4 · standard and extended

Well taught in most Abu Dhabi schools and rarely the real problem. Where it costs money is in the word-problem translation step, where a student who can solve the equation cannot form it from a described situation, which is criterion D territory.

Quadratics, factorising and the graph

MYP 4-5 · extended emphasis

The first topic where the extended route visibly separates from the standard one. Connecting the factorised form to the roots on a sketch is the skill that transfers directly into Diploma mathematics, and it is the one most often taught procedurally and understood shallowly.

Patterns, sequences and general rules

MYP 1-5 · criterion B core

The heart of criterion B and the biggest single source of lost levels in MYP mathematics anywhere. A student has to find a pattern, express it as a general rule, test it, and then justify why it holds. Describing the pattern earns a low level however correct the answer is.

Geometry: angles, similarity and congruence

MYP 2-5 · standard and extended

Reasoning with reasons is what is being assessed, not the final number. Abu Dhabi students who have come from systems that reward the answer alone routinely lose marks for omitting the justification, which is a writing habit rather than a mathematical gap.

Trigonometry and Pythagoras

MYP 3-5 · extended goes further

Standard-route students meet right-angled trigonometry; extended students go into the sine and cosine rules and non-right-angled work. This is one of the two places where a late switch between routes costs real tutoring hours rather than a weekend of reading.

Statistics: representation and measures

MYP 1-5 · standard and extended

Calculating a mean is not the assessment. Choosing an appropriate representation, interpreting a spread and saying what a dataset does not support is. Criterion D tasks lean heavily on this, and it is often the cheapest place to add levels quickly.

Probability, including conditional cases

MYP 3-5 · extended emphasis

Tree diagrams and two-way tables are usually fine; conditional reasoning is where extended students stall. A student who cannot say in words what a conditional probability means will not get a usable answer from a formula, however neatly it is recalled.

Functions, gradient and rate of change

MYP 4-5 · extended core

The direct bridge into Diploma mathematics. Gradient as a rate, function notation and transformations of graphs are the topics an Analysis and Approaches teacher assumes are already in place, and the ones a standard-route student has met only lightly.

Real-life application tasks

MYP 1-5 · criterion D

Modelling a situation, choosing a method, and then evaluating how well the model fits reality. Students lose the top band by never questioning their own model. Ten minutes of teaching on the evaluation sentence moves more levels than an hour of extra practice questions.

On-screen examination technique

MYP 5 · optional component

A distinct skill: reading a scenario on screen, working on paper, and entering answers in a form the interface accepts. Students who have only practised on paper lose time rather than marks, and time is what the paper is short of.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four shapes of MYP mathematics support, priced differently and suited to different problems. The commonest mistake in this market is buying a weekly hour indefinitely when a bounded block would have closed the gap and stopped.

Weekly consolidation hour

The standard product: one hour a week tracking the school's scheme of work, with practice set between sessions. Appropriate where a student is broadly coping but losing levels on specific criteria. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run roughly AED 600-1,200 at the mid tier, which is the band this sits in.

  • Follows your child's own scheme of work and assessment calendar
  • Practice set between sessions and marked at the start of the next
  • A review point agreed at six weeks, with a stopping condition
  • Best value in MYP 1-3, where gaps are cheap to close early

Bounded topic block

Four to six sessions aimed at one named weakness: proportional reasoning, quadratics and their graphs, trigonometry beyond right angles, or criterion B investigation technique. Finite, costed up front, and ended when the topic is secure. This is the shape that costs least per level gained and the one providers rarely offer.

  • One named topic, a fixed session count and a fixed total
  • A before-and-after diagnostic task on the same criterion
  • No rolling renewal; the block ends when it ends
  • Typically the right purchase after a disappointing report

Two children, one arrangement

Siblings in different MYP years taught consecutively by the same tutor. The saving is real because the preparation overlaps and the slot is contiguous, and in Abu Dhabi's large family households it is the most reliable way to reduce a tutoring bill without reducing the teaching. It does not work when the age gap is wide and the routes differ.

  • Consecutive one-to-one hours, not a shared lesson
  • One tutor holding both children's assessment calendars
  • A combined rate agreed in the consultation
  • Honest limits: a Year 7 and an extended Year 11 rarely pair well

Pre-examination intensive in MYP 5

A short, dense run before the on-screen examination window, built around timed practice and interface familiarity rather than new content. Priced at the specialist tier because it needs someone who knows how the on-screen component behaves. Bestimate puts specialist examination-year monthly costs at AED 1,000-2,000 or more.

  • Timed papers under on-screen conditions, not paper practice
  • Criterion-specific marking returned on each attempt
  • Scheduled around Ramadan where the window falls inside it
  • Bounded: it ends with the examination, not with a renewal

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an MYP mathematics hour costs in Abu Dhabi, by year group

No competitor page in this cluster publishes a rate table split by year group, which is strange, because it is the first thing that changes the number. A tutor consolidating Year 7 number work and a tutor preparing an extended Year 11 for an on-screen examination are not interchangeable, and pricing them identically is how families end up either overpaying for a straightforward job or underbuying for a hard one.

The bands below are assembled from published market figures and sorted by what each year group actually needs. Everything in the AED columns belongs to the provider named in the final column, at the date given. None of it is an IB Gram price list; our own figure comes from a consultation after a free first lesson, because quoting before anyone has seen a marked task would be a guess dressed up as a quote.

Read it as a floor and a ceiling rather than a price. The lower end assumes a competent generalist, which is adequate for MYP 1 to 3 consolidation and inadequate for criterion B investigation work in MYP 5. The upper end assumes someone who has marked against the four criteria and can tell you which descriptor band a piece of work currently sits in. For the middle years, paying the upper band is usually unnecessary. For extended mathematics in the final year, paying the lower one usually is. The point of splitting the table by year rather than by provider is that it lets a family place themselves in one row and stop comparing quotes that were never for the same job.

02

Why the final two years cost more than the first three

  • The standard and extended split narrows who can teach the content
  • Criterion B at the top bands needs someone who has marked investigations
  • The Year 11 conversation includes Diploma route advice, which is a second skill
  • A gap closed in Year 8 costs roughly a third of the same gap closed in Year 10

The jump is not inflation and it is not seniority for its own sake. Three things change in MYP 4 and 5 and each of them narrows the pool of people who can do the work, which is what actually sets a price in a market this size.

The first is the route split. Standard and extended mathematics diverge in the final two years, and extended content reaches into material that a general secondary tutor may not have taught since their own schooling. The second is criterion B at the top bands. Investigating a pattern and justifying a general rule is a genuine mathematical skill, and a tutor who has only ever taught procedures will coach a student to describe a pattern competently and cap them in the middle of the descriptor. The third is the Diploma shadow: a Year 11 conversation is partly about whether Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is realistic, which needs someone who has taught both.

That is why the specialist band exists and why paying it in Year 7 is usually a waste. A competent primary or lower-secondary mathematics teacher can close a proportional reasoning gap in three hours, and the same gap left until Year 10 will take six hours from someone charging twice as much. The cheapest mathematics tutoring any Abu Dhabi family will ever buy is the hour bought early, which is the opposite of how most households sequence the spend.

03

The standard or extended decision, and what it costs to take it late

This is the most financially consequential choice in MYP mathematics and it is usually made in a ten-minute conversation at an options evening. Standard and extended are not better and worse versions of the same course; they lead to different doors in the Diploma, and the door that closes is the expensive one to reopen.

In broad terms, a student heading for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level — which engineering, physics, economics and medicine routes at UAE and overseas universities commonly expect — wants the extended route and the algebraic depth it carries. A student heading for Applications and Interpretation, or for Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, is well served by the standard route and will not be disadvantaged by it. The mistake is not choosing standard. The mistake is choosing standard by default and then discovering in DP1 that the intended degree wants the other course.

The table below sets out what each route covers, the Diploma door it opens, and what a late switch costs in tutoring hours. The figures in the last column are the realistic catch-up load, not a price: multiply by the specialist band from the first table in this page to get a number. The honest summary is that switching up during MYP 5 costs a term of sessions, and discovering the problem in DP1 costs considerably more than that, because the catch-up then competes with Diploma coursework and an Internal Assessment.

Four criteria, and what moving each one actually costs

An MYP mathematics report gives four numbers between one and eight and no percentage anywhere, which is why parents find it hard to know what they are buying. The useful translation is not into percentages. It is into which criterion is low and what kind of teaching moves it, because the four criteria cost very different amounts to shift.

Criterion A, knowing and understanding, is the cheapest to move and the one most tutoring sells itself on: more practice, fewer slips, better recall. Criterion C, communicating, is almost as cheap, because it is largely a set of habits about showing working and labelling a diagram. Criterion D, applying mathematics in real-life contexts, sits in the middle: the content is usually known and the missing piece is a sentence evaluating whether the model fits, which is teachable in a couple of sessions.

Criterion B, investigating patterns, is the expensive one. It asks a student to find a pattern, express a general rule, verify it, and justify why it holds. Practice questions do not move it; being made to justify, repeatedly, by someone who will not accept a description as a justification, does. That is a tutor's time rather than a worksheet, which is exactly why it costs more. If your child's report shows a 7 in A and a 4 in B, you now know both what the problem is and roughly what fixing it will cost. The same arithmetic works in reverse: a report with a low A and a strong B means the mathematics is understood and the arithmetic is leaking, which is the cheapest repair on the whole list.

What a monthly maths budget actually buys at each tier

Hourly rates are how this market quotes and monthly totals are how households budget, so the translation matters. Bestimate's 2026 work gives monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions of roughly AED 240-600 at the budget tier, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Packages exist too: an AED 799 monthly rate for eight online sessions has been published in this market, as have in-home monthly rates of AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits.

The arithmetic on those packages repays a minute's attention. Eight online sessions at AED 799 a month works out at about a hundred dirhams a session, which is below the qualified-tutor band — so either the sessions are short, or shared, or delivered by a less experienced tutor. None of those is dishonest, and for Year 7 consolidation any of them may be fine. For criterion B work in Year 11 it is unlikely to be. The in-home monthly figures work out considerably higher per hour once the two-hour format is accounted for, and roughly a third of that premium is the car.

The pattern worth copying is to buy bounded rather than monthly. A six-session block on one named weakness, costed as a total, with a before-and-after task on the same criterion, tells you whether the money worked. A rolling monthly subscription does not, and it keeps charging whether or not the levels move. Where a monthly arrangement does make sense is a long run of consolidation in the middle years, where there is no single topic to bound.

The costs nobody quotes you

  • Cancelled or shortened sessions caused by school transport times
  • The surge in demand before reporting rounds and the examination window
  • Two children, two tutors, overlapping content and two bills
  • Paying a specialist rate for consolidation, or a budget rate for criterion B

Four expenses sit outside the hourly rate and together they often exceed the difference between two providers' quotes. Naming them is more useful than shaving ten dirhams off an hour.

The first is cancelled sessions. A visiting tutor booked for 4pm in Khalifa City when the island school bus arrives at 4.40pm produces a term of half-length lessons or a term of rescheduling, and most arrangements charge for the slot rather than the minutes. The second is the exam-season surge. Demand concentrates before reporting rounds and before the on-screen examination window, and a family entering the market in those weeks is choosing from whoever has capacity. The third is sibling duplication: two children with two separately booked tutors covering overlapping content at different times is the commonest avoidable cost in Abu Dhabi's larger households.

The fourth is buying the wrong tier. Paying the specialist band for Year 8 number work is overpaying by roughly double; paying the budget band for extended criterion B work in Year 11 buys sessions that will not move the level, which is not a saving at all. The defence against all four is the same: a written plan with a session count, a slot that does not depend on traffic, and a diagnostic before anyone quotes a tier. A fifth cost is worth naming because families rarely see it as a cost at all: the term spent on the wrong criterion. Six sessions of extra practice questions aimed at a student whose weakness is justification rather than accuracy will produce a politely unchanged report, and the money is gone whether or not anyone admits what happened.

07

Tutoring in the context of an Abu Dhabi school bill

Tutoring is a second education expense sitting on top of a first, and the honest way to present a rate is against that background rather than in isolation. Private school fee regulation in Abu Dhabi sits with ADEK, which the UAE government portal describes as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and fee increases are a regulated process rather than a school's own decision.

For comparison, the clearest recent published figure anywhere in the UAE comes from Dubai: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in that emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's own sector numbers for 2024-25 give useful scale: 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula, with International Baccalaureate provision accounting for seven per cent of students. Those are Dubai figures and should not be read as Abu Dhabi policy; they are offered as the published context that exists.

Set against a full school fee, a bounded six-session block to fix proportional reasoning is a small number. Set against the same fee, a rolling specialist subscription from September to June is not. That is the actual budgeting question, and it is better answered by deciding what you are trying to fix than by comparing hourly rates between providers whose products are not the same thing.

Online, in-home and group maths lessons compared on price and on outcome

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Rather than leave that as a limitation, here is the comparison on the merits, including the one column where a group class genuinely wins.

For mathematics specifically the online case is unusually strong, because the whole subject is a shared writing surface. A tutor and a student working on the same digital page see each other's working line by line, the session leaves a record a parent can look at, and a graph can be plotted, transformed and re-plotted faster than it can be drawn. None of that is a compromise against a notebook on a kitchen table. What online removes is the travel loading in the rate — the gap between Bestimate's AED 180-350 in-home band and the AED 150-300 qualified online band is substantially the car — and the rigidity of a slot built around a driving route.

Group classes are cheaper per student and that is a real advantage for one specific job: drilling procedural fluency in criterion A content, where watching other students make mistakes is useful. They are close to useless for criterion B, because justification has to be prised out of one student at a time and a group lets the quiet ones hide. So the rational purchase for many Abu Dhabi families is a group class for consolidation and a small number of one-to-one hours for investigation work, rather than one or the other.

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies: the other hours in the week

  • The federal baseline covers Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies in all private schools
  • KHDA's published guidance is Dubai's; verify Abu Dhabi requirements with ADEK and your school
  • Mandatory subjects take timetable and evening hours that compete with maths support
  • Fund the subject where a bounded block produces a measurable change first

A maths budget in an Abu Dhabi household rarely exists alone, because mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the international curriculum and they take time out of the same week. The federal position, as the UAE government portal states it, is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. That is the rule behind every emirate's requirement.

The most detailed published statement of how it works in practice comes from Dubai's regulator rather than Abu Dhabi's. KHDA's mandatory subjects guidance requires Arabic, Islamic Education and social and moral studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with implementation from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. It requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. It also calculates instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit and advises that any mandatory subject lesson should last at least twenty-five minutes.

Those are Dubai requirements and should not be reported as ADEK's. The reason they matter to a maths budget in Abu Dhabi is arithmetic: mandatory subjects occupy timetable hours, and a student who needs support in Arabic as well as mathematics has two expenses competing for the same evenings. Deciding which one to fund first is a real decision, and the honest answer is usually the one where a bounded block of hours produces a measurable change, which for most families is mathematics.

Verifying who you pay, in Abu Dhabi specifically

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge and lasts two years
  • No published fine schedule exists, so disregard any amount quoted to you
  • Your child's own maths teacher is the wrong person to pay for private hours
  • IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and runs no UAE premises

Two checks cost nothing and both are worth making before money moves. The first is the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which introduced private tuition work permits. The UAE government portal states the permit is granted free of charge for two years, and lists eligible applicants as including teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a MoHRE permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so any specific figure quoted to you is unverified and should be ignored. MoHRE's own service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'.

The second is the conflict-of-interest check. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with teachers tutoring outside school hours required to hold the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. That should be verified against ADEK's current policy document before being relied upon as exact wording. The practical reading is clear: your child's own mathematics teacher, who also assigns the criterion levels on the report, is the wrong person to pay.

For completeness: IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no premises in the UAE. An operation with premises and staff in Dubai would require a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, a specific authorisation we do not hold and do not claim. What is on offer here is one-to-one teaching time delivered online, priced after a diagnostic.

Where we tutor

What maths tutoring costs across Abu Dhabi, by community

Two things vary by where you live: what a visiting tutor would add for travel, and what time a session can realistically start once school transport is accounted for. Both show up in the bill, one as a rate and one as sessions that get cancelled.

Saadiyat Island

Short journeys keep any travel loading low, so local in-home quotes here sit nearer the published middle of the band. The real constraint is co-curricular load, which pushes a usable maths slot past 7pm and makes a fixed visiting appointment fragile across a term.

Al Reem Island

Apartment households with siblings sharing space, so the quiet surface matters more than the tutor's location. Families here commonly buy a weekend morning hour for investigation work and a short midweek review, which is cheaper than two evening hours that keep getting moved.

Khalifa City

School buses from the island frequently arrive after 4.30pm, so an advertised 4pm start is not a real option. A visiting tutor priced for a 4pm slot either waits or re-routes, and both end up in the rate. An online 6.30pm slot costs the same every week.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Dense MYP population feeding a small number of schools, which means reporting rounds and examination windows land on many households at once. Booking a term ahead rather than in the fortnight after a report is the single biggest saving available in this community.

Al Bateen and Al Khalidiyah

Established island neighbourhoods with a mix of curricula on the same street, so sibling sets often span MYP and IGCSE mathematics. That is the household where one tutor covering two children at a combined rate is genuinely cheaper rather than theoretically cheaper.

Yas Island and West Yas

Newer schools where an entire MYP year group may be taught by one mathematics teacher. Paying for a second explanation of algebraic proof is worth more here than in a school with four maths teachers and a departmental scheme that has settled.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Mainland villa communities with long drives to island schools and several children per household. Travel loading on a visiting tutor is at its highest here, which is where the gap between an online and an in-home rate becomes a monthly figure rather than a detail.

Al Shamkha, Al Falah, Al Samha and Al Reef

Distance governs everything. The local pool of tutors who have marked MYP criterion B investigations is thin, and the subset who will drive out in the evening is thinner. Matching online removes that constraint entirely and costs the same as it does on the island.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The island, Saadiyat and Al Bateen

Long-established MYP provision with settled mathematics departments and multiple teachers per year group. Students we support attend schools in this cluster. ADEK publishes the licensing and inspection record for each school, which is a better guide to departmental strength than any provider's claim.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas Island

The emirate's fastest-growing MYP corridor. Year groups are often taught by a single mathematics specialist, and school transport times push evening sessions later than families plan for. This is where most of our MYP mathematics work in Abu Dhabi sits.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • The International School of Choueifat Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National Schools

Mainland, Mussafah and the newer communities

A wide curriculum mix, with MYP mathematics alongside British and Indian streams in neighbouring buildings. Families here face the longest commutes and the thinnest local specialist pool, and they are the ones for whom online matching changes the available choice most.

  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Nord Anglia International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi Indian School

Schools are named here only as context for where Abu Dhabi MYP students study; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school or group is implied, and licensing and inspection outcomes should be read on ADEK's own published listings.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the report, not a description

Four criterion numbers between one and eight tell a tutor more than a paragraph about how your child feels about maths. Add the year group and whether they are on the standard or extended route, and a sensible tier and hour estimate can be given before any money is discussed.

  2. 02

A free first lesson that reads the criteria

The first session sets a short diagnostic task covering all four criteria, marks it, and returns a written read: which criterion is holding the total down and what kind of teaching moves it. If the answer is that your child needs three hours rather than a term, you will be told that.

  3. 03

Pick a shape and get a total

A bounded topic block, a weekly consolidation hour, a sibling arrangement or a pre-examination intensive are different products at different prices. You get a session count and a total in writing before starting, along with the criterion the block is aimed at.

  4. 04

Re-run the same criterion task at the review point

Six weeks in, the same style of task is set again and marked against the same criterion. That is the measurement, not a sense that sessions are going well. A before-and-after on one criterion is the only honest way to tell whether the money worked.

  5. 05

    Stop, or change tier

If the criterion has moved, the block ends. If it has not, the fix is usually a different tutor or a different criterion rather than more hours at the same rate. Rematching carries no penalty, and we would rather make that change than renew a block that is not working.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rates are published, by year group

Hourly and monthly bands split by MYP year and by route, with every figure attributed to whoever published it. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all. An Abu Dhabi household budgets in dirhams per month and should be shown dirhams per month.

We cost by criterion, not by hour

A low criterion A is two to four hours of work; a low criterion B is eight to twelve with a specialist. Telling you which one your child's report shows, and what each costs, is more useful than any rate comparison and it is the thing nothing else on this search does.

No travel loading on a shared screen

Mathematics is a writing surface, and a digital one works better than a notebook turned sideways. Lessons are online, so a family in Al Shamkha pays the same as a family on Saadiyat Island and gets the same choice of tutor.

Bounded blocks with a stopping condition

A six-session block aimed at one named weakness, with a before-and-after task on the same criterion and a total agreed in advance. A rolling monthly arrangement keeps charging whether or not the levels move; a bounded block cannot.

The delivery model is stated, not implied

One-to-one lessons online on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE and holds no accreditation from ADEK, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. Saying so plainly on a page that targets a local search is the point.

Honest about where group classes win

A small group is cheaper per student and better for drilling procedural fluency. It is close to useless for criterion B investigation work. We will tell you to use both rather than pretend one-to-one is the answer to everything your child needs.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does an MYP mathematics tutor charge per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

It depends on the year group more than on anything else. Published UAE market figures put a qualified online subject tutor at AED 150-300 an hour and an IB or IGCSE specialist at AED 200-450 or more, with a budget online tier from around AED 33-65 and a named premium provider publishing AED 650. A visiting tutor runs AED 180-350 per Bestimate's 2026 work, with some advertising to AED 500 once travel is included. For MYP 1 to 3 consolidation the lower-middle of that range is adequate. For extended mathematics in Year 11 it is not.

Does MYP maths tutoring cost less for a Year 7 than for a Year 11?+

It should, and if a provider quotes you the same rate for both, ask what changes. A Year 7 hour consolidating number fluency and early algebra can be delivered well by a competent lower-secondary mathematics teacher. A Year 11 extended hour needs someone who has marked criterion B investigations against the descriptors and who can also advise on whether Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is realistic. That is a smaller pool and a higher band. The practical consequence is that the cheapest maths tutoring a family ever buys is the hour bought in Year 8 rather than Year 10.

Is a monthly package better value than paying by the hour for maths?+

Do the division before deciding. An AED 799 monthly rate for eight online sessions, which has been published in this market, works out at roughly a hundred dirhams a session — below the qualified-tutor band, so expect shorter sessions, a shared format or a less experienced tutor. For Year 7 consolidation that may be perfectly fine. For criterion B work it is unlikely to be. In-home monthly rates of AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits price higher per hour, and a meaningful share of that is travel. A bounded block with a fixed total usually beats both.

My daughter is at a 5 in maths. What does moving her to a 7 actually cost?+

That depends entirely on which of the four criteria is holding the total down, which is why the report matters more than the grade. If she is strong on criterion A and weak on criterion B, the work is investigation and justification: eight to twelve hours with someone who refuses to accept a described pattern as a justified rule. If the weakness is criterion C, it is presentation habits and takes two or three hours. A profile with one low criterion and three strong ones is the cheapest to fix. An evenly low profile is slower and more honest about needing a term.

Should we pay for extended mathematics support or keep our son on the standard route?+

Decide by the degree, not by the current grade. If he is heading for engineering, physics, economics or medicine, those routes commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and the extended route is the comfortable path into it. If he is heading elsewhere, the standard route is a perfectly respectable choice and he will not be disadvantaged. The expensive outcome is choosing standard by default and discovering in DP1 that the intended degree wanted the other course. That conversation belongs at the end of MYP 3, not at the end of MYP 5.

What does it cost to switch from standard to extended mathematics in MYP 5?+

Realistically twenty to thirty hours of catch-up, concentrated on algebraic manipulation, non-right-angled trigonometry and functions as rates of change. At the specialist band of AED 200-450 an hour that is a substantial number, which is precisely why the decision belongs two years earlier. Switching during MYP 4 is far cheaper because the content gap is smaller and there is a year to absorb it. Discovering the problem in DP1 is the worst case, because the catch-up then competes with six Diploma subjects and an Internal Assessment for the same evenings.

Can one tutor take both of my children if they are in different MYP years?+

Often, yes, and it is the most reliable way to reduce a tutoring bill in Abu Dhabi's larger households without reducing the teaching. The arrangement is consecutive one-to-one hours rather than a shared lesson, with one tutor holding both children's assessment calendars, and a combined rate agreed at the consultation. The saving comes from overlapping preparation and a contiguous slot. It stops working when the age gap is wide or the routes differ: a Year 7 and an extended Year 11 need genuinely different specialists, and pairing them saves money by lowering quality.

Is a small group maths class cheaper enough to be worth it?+

For some of the work, yes. A group of two to four is cheaper per student and genuinely good for drilling criterion A procedural fluency, partly because watching other students make mistakes is instructive. It is close to useless for criterion B, where justification has to be prised out of one student at a time and a group gives the quiet ones somewhere to hide. The rational purchase for many families is both: a group class for fluency and a handful of one-to-one hours for investigation technique. Buying only one of the two is the common mistake.

Does the price go up closer to the on-screen examinations?+

Effective prices do, because availability falls. Demand across Abu Dhabi concentrates in the weeks after reporting rounds and before the examination window, and because the large cohorts in the Al Raha and Khalifa City corridor run on similar calendars those spikes arrive together. A family entering the market then is choosing from whoever has capacity rather than from the right specialist. The same support booked a term earlier costs less in hours as well as in rate, because there is time for the student to practise between sessions rather than cram alongside them.

Why is there no in-home maths tutor option in Abu Dhabi?+

Because IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India, and every country page on the site says so. For mathematics that costs you very little. A shared digital writing surface shows working line by line better than a notebook turned sideways, the session leaves a record, and graphs can be drawn and transformed in seconds. What it removes is the travel loading inside the in-home rate and the rigidity of a slot built around a driving route through Khalifa City at half past four.

Do MYP criterion levels convert into a percentage I can track at home?+

Not reliably, and trying to is a common source of confusion. Each of the four criteria is scored one to eight, giving a maximum total of thirty-two, which the school then maps to a subject grade of one to seven using published boundaries. The boundaries are not a simple percentage conversion and a single criterion can hold an otherwise strong profile down. What you can track at home is far more useful: the individual criterion numbers across successive reports. A 4 moving to a 6 in criterion B is a real, visible change in a way that a percentage never is.

What share of a household education budget should maths tutoring take?+

Less than most families end up spending, and the saving comes from shape rather than rate. A bounded six-session block aimed at one named criterion is a small figure next to a school fee. A rolling specialist subscription from September to June is not, and it will keep charging whether the levels move or not. The useful discipline is to name the weakness, buy a block to fix it, re-test the same criterion, and then stop. If a provider cannot tell you what the block is aimed at, you are buying hours rather than a result.

Does my child need Arabic support alongside maths, and what does that add?+

Possibly, because mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the international curriculum. The federal position is that private schools must cover Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies whatever curriculum they are licensed for. The most detailed published guidance is Dubai's: KHDA requires those subjects in all its private schools, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Verify Abu Dhabi's requirements with ADEK and your school. Budget-wise the two compete for the same evenings, and the one to fund first is the one where a bounded block produces a measurable change.

Is my child's own maths teacher at an Abu Dhabi school allowed to tutor her for a fee?+

Treat that as a problem rather than a shortcut. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the permit-holder's own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document. Beyond compliance there is an obvious conflict: the person assigning the criterion levels on the report should not also be paid to raise them.

How do I check a maths tutor is permitted to work in the UAE before paying?+

Ask directly, and ask early. Private tutoring here is regulated under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which introduced private tuition work permits. The government portal states the permit is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged fifteen to eighteen and university students. Tutoring without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so disregard any figure quoted to you. MoHRE's service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', is the official route.

Six weeks of sessions and the maths grade has not moved. Do we stop paying?+

Stop paying for the same thing, yes. Before stopping altogether, check two things. First, has the criterion the block was aimed at moved, even if the overall grade has not? A 4 to a 6 in criterion B with a flat subject grade is progress that a single report hides. Second, was the block aimed at the right criterion at all, which is why a before-and-after task on the same criterion matters. If the targeted criterion is genuinely flat after six sessions, the answer is a different tutor or a different tier, not more hours at the same rate.

Send the four numbers and get a price

If you are pricing an IB MYP mathematics tutor in Abu Dhabi, the quickest route to a real answer is to send the four criterion numbers from your child's last report, the year group, and whether they are on the standard or extended route. The first lesson is free and ends in a written read of which criterion is holding the total down and what moving it will cost in hours. Where three hours will do it, you will be told three hours. Lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time, for families from Saadiyat Island and Al Reem to Khalifa City, Al Raha and Al Shamkha, with no travel priced into the rate.
