Best IB Home Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Searching for the best IB home tutor in Abu Dhabi is usually a search for proof. This page answers the home-tutoring question properly - what the Abu Dhabi market charges once travel sits inside the hour, and how families actually choose - and then sets out what IB Gram delivers instead: one-to-one tuition over live video, with marked scripts, dated draft records and a written progress log you can read yourself. A free 45-minute trial lesson comes first, and no card details are taken.

  • Every session produces a marked script or a dated draft record
  • Monthly written progress log naming what moved and what did not
  • We state where each tutor is resident before you agree a match
  • Independent platform with no ADEK licence, KHDA permit or UAE office

What a parent can actually verify before paying

Every tutoring provider in Abu Dhabi says it is good. Almost none of them will show you anything. That is the real problem behind the search for the best IB home tutor: the word best has no test attached to it, so families end up choosing on availability, on a recommendation from one parent at the school gate, or on whoever answered the phone first. Three months later the grade has not moved and there is nothing to review, because nothing was ever written down.

So this page is organised around evidence rather than adjectives. There are exactly four things a parent can check before money changes hands, and three things you can check every month afterwards. Before: where the tutor is resident and whether they hold the private tuition permit that UAE residents need; which IB components they have actually taught and supervised; what a session produces in writing; and what the diagnosis is after one free lesson. Afterwards: the annotated scripts, the shrinking error log, and the dated record of which coursework draft was discussed on which day.

The home-tutoring question deserves a straight answer rather than a deflection, because it is a reasonable thing to want. In-home one-to-one tuition in the UAE market is published at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with travel priced into the rate; a Dubai rate survey puts the usual band at AED 180 to AED 350. Abu Dhabi geography changes the maths more than the figures suggest. A tutor who finishes a lesson in Al Bateen at 5pm and needs to be in Khalifa City at 6pm is committing roughly two hours to deliver one, and the second hour appears in your invoice whether or not it is itemised.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Abu Dhabi families get one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The case for that is not that it is cheaper, although it usually is. The case is that a driving radius selects tutors for proximity and against specialism. A family in Al Reef looking for someone who has supervised Biology internal assessments gets whoever can reach Al Reef by 5.30pm. Over video they get the person who has read a hundred of them.

What follows is the checkable version: how to test a provider's claims, what the travel arithmetic really costs in this emirate, what a marked script should look like when it comes back, what the evidence trail across DP1 and DP2 should contain, and where coursework support has to stop. No grade is promised anywhere on this page, and no IB session date is published, because the IB's own site could not be verified for this project.

At a glance

  • Ask for one marked script from a previous student, with the student's details removed, before you commit.
  • In-home rates in this market carry the tutor's travel inside the hour, itemised or not.
  • A UAE-resident tutor needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit; ask for it and check the number.
  • A progress record that never says anything negative is not a progress record.
  • Assessed coursework stays the student's own work in full, and we put that in writing before the first draft session.
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The evidence a parent should expect changes with the programme, because what the school produces changes. In the Middle Years the useful artefact is criterion marks over two terms; in the Diploma it is marked papers and dated draft records.

MYPAges 11-16, Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Each MYP subject is marked against four criteria on an eight-point scale, with published descriptors. That makes the MYP the easiest stage at which to check whether tutoring is working: criterion marks across two reporting cycles show movement or its absence in a way a percentage never does. A tutor who cannot tell you which criterion your child is weakest on has not read the reports.

Abu Dhabi MYP families often come to tutoring at the Year 11 decision point, choosing between continuing into the Diploma or moving to an A-Level route at one of the emirate's British schools. The evidence for that decision already exists in the criterion marks, and reading them properly is a better use of a first session than any aptitude conversation.

DPAges 16-19, Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, each with external papers and an internal assessment, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The evidence trail here is dense and most families never collect it: mock scripts, internal examination marks, predicted grades, supervisor meeting records, and the dated sequence of coursework drafts. A tutor working properly adds to that trail rather than running alongside it.

Abu Dhabi Diploma students sit the May session. This page publishes no IB session or results date, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date on a page like this is worse than no date. Take yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org, then plan the tuition block backwards from it.

PYPAges 3-12, Foundation to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

There is no external paper in the PYP, so the evidence is different in kind: reading levels, written explanation of a maths method, and the transdisciplinary reporting the school uses. Tutoring at this stage should produce short, specific notes rather than marks, and a parent should be able to see which skill was worked on in which week.

Families arriving in Abu Dhabi mid-year from a British or American primary often find the PYP report format unfamiliar rather than the content hard. A session spent reading the report with a tutor who knows the framework is frequently worth more than extra maths practice, and it costs one hour.

CPAges 16-19, Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines a career-related study with Diploma courses, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Evidence here centres on the reflective project, which is criterion-marked and routinely started too late. A tutor should be able to show you the project timeline and where your child sits against it.

Very few Abu Dhabi schools offer the CP, so the honest position is that platform coverage for a specific career-related study is thin. We will say so rather than matching a tutor who has read the guide but never supervised the component.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject below, the second half of the description is the evidence question: what a parent should be able to see in a marked script or a draft after a few weeks of work. That is the test of whether tuition in that subject is doing anything.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is non-calculator, and the evidence of progress is visible in the margins: method lines written out where there were none, and working that an examiner can follow to award method marks when the final answer is wrong. Ask to see two scripts a month apart and look at the margins rather than the totals.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

AI is calculator-active and interpretation-heavy. Progress shows as a closing sentence on every answer that says what the number means in the context of the question, with units. If that sentence is still missing after a month, the tutoring is covering content instead of fixing the habit.

Biology

HL and SL

The internal assessment is the richest evidence source in Biology, because it is drafted over months and each draft is dated. Ask for the record of which draft was discussed and the criterion-referenced comments made on it. On papers, look for data-based answers that quote values from the figure rather than describing it loosely.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Mechanism notation and full ionic equations are easy to audit on a returned script. So is data booklet use: a student who has been taught to find values quickly stops writing constants from memory. Energetics questions are where incomplete working is most visible and most expensive.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty arithmetic and significant figures are the clearest evidence markers in Physics, because they either appear in the working or they do not. Extended-response answers should show explanation chains with each link stated. Both are checkable by a parent who is not a physicist.

Economics

HL and SL

Evidence here is structural: a diagram drawn before the prose on every diagram question, and a closing judgement paragraph that references the stimulus material. Those two habits are visible on any marked script and they are the difference between the middle and the upper bands.

Business Management

HL and SL

Look for annotation on the pre-released case study and for answers that apply a tool to the named organisation rather than to business in general. A tutor working on Business should be able to show you the annotated case and explain what was added to it week by week.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The evidence is the first paragraph. A guided analysis that opens with a thesis about how the text produces meaning, rather than with a summary of what it says, is the single clearest sign the work is landing. Individual oral progress shows in the narrowing of the global issue.

History

HL and SL

Source-based answers should show provenance used as an argument rather than described. Essay answers should reach a judgement that follows from the evidence rather than arriving by assertion. Both are visible in marked scripts and both respond to drafting work faster than content revision does.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

HL, SL and ab initio

Private schools in the UAE carry Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies alongside their licensed curriculum under the Ministry of Education's general regulations, so most Abu Dhabi students sit Arabic in some form. Progress evidence is in the productive skills: structure and register in the written task, and fluency in the recorded oral.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover almost every Abu Dhabi enquiry, and all three run one-to-one over live video. What separates them is what evidence they produce and how often, not how long the lesson lasts.

Weekly one-to-one with marked work between sessions

A fixed 60-minute weekly slot, with the student's most recent work marked before the session rather than during it. The annotated script comes back within a day and the error log is updated. The marking between sessions is the part families most often do not get, and it is where most of the value sits.

  • Script marked before the session, not read aloud during it
  • Annotated return within 24 hours
  • A running error log that shrinks as items are retired
  • Written progress note once a month

Coursework draft supervision

Sessions scheduled around the school's own internal deadlines for the internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. Each session is logged with the date and the draft version discussed, and the comments are criterion-referenced. Every change is made by the student, and the school supervisor remains the authority on the task.

  • Dated record of which draft was discussed when
  • Comments mapped to criterion letters, not rewritten text
  • Honesty boundary stated in writing before the first session
  • Nothing is produced on the student's behalf at any point

Two children, staggered slots

Common in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, where one household can have a Diploma candidate and an MYP student on different calendars. Two separate one-to-one slots in the same evening, each with its own tutor, error log and progress note. Nothing is shared between the two except the household calendar.

  • Separate tutors matched per subject and level
  • Back-to-back evening slots in Gulf Standard Time
  • One monthly progress note per child
  • Either slot can be paused without affecting the other

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What the word best can actually be tested against

  • Four questions: residency and permit, named components, written output, diagnosis after one lesson.
  • Ignore years of experience, student counts and self-published ratings; none of them can be checked.
  • A specific diagnosis after one free lesson is the strongest signal available before payment.
  • Any guarantee about a grade tells you about the seller, not about the tutor.

The best IB home tutor in Abu Dhabi, for practical purposes, is the one whose claims survive four questions. Where do you live and do you hold the private tuition permit? Which IB components have you taught and supervised, by name? What will I receive in writing after each session? And what is your diagnosis after one lesson with my child's marked work in front of you? A provider who answers all four plainly is already in a small minority in this market.

The questions are chosen because each one has a verifiable answer. Residency and permit status are facts. Component experience is specific enough that a bluff collapses: a tutor who has supervised Chemistry internal assessments can tell you what the evaluation criterion rewards without pausing. Written output either arrives or it does not. And a diagnosis after one real lesson is either specific - three named error classes with mark values - or it is a sales pitch about building confidence.

What cannot be tested is worth naming too, because knowing which claims to ignore saves time. Years of experience is unverifiable and weakly correlated with anything. Student numbers are unverifiable. Star ratings published by the provider itself are unverifiable and, in schema markup, a Google structured-data policy problem; two pages researched for this project publish different ratings in different places on the same page. A promised grade is not a claim at all, because no tutor controls an examiner.

The table below is the version to take into a phone call. The fourth column matters most: evasion in this market has a consistent shape, and recognising it is quicker than evaluating the claim.

The travel arithmetic: what an in-home hour really costs in this emirate

In-home tuition in the UAE market is published at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour. A Dubai rate survey from 2026 puts the common band at AED 180 to AED 350, and individual home tutors are quoted up to AED 500. Those numbers are not inflated. They are what it costs to buy a professional's time plus the journey attached to it, and the journey is the part Abu Dhabi families underestimate.

Think about an evening rather than an hour. A tutor delivering one-to-one lessons by car in this emirate can realistically do two sessions on a weekday evening, sometimes three if the households are close together. That caps their earnings for the evening, which is why the hourly rate has to carry the travel. It also explains the pattern families notice and cannot account for: that the same tutor quotes differently for Al Mushrif and for Al Reef, and that nobody good is available at 6pm in the outer communities.

The second-order effect is the one that actually matters for a Diploma student. A driving radius is a filter on who your child can work with, and it filters for the wrong variable. A family in Hydra Village wanting a Physics HL tutor who understands uncertainty treatment is not choosing between specialists; they are choosing between the two or three people who will make that drive. Subject match loses to geography every time, and the grade consequence of that is larger than the rate difference.

The table below sets out typical weekday evening journeys inside Abu Dhabi, the travel a tutor has to commit, and what that does to the effective cost per teaching hour. Drive times are indicative for the 4pm to 7pm window and vary with the school run and the bridge crossings.

WEEKDAY EVENING TRAVEL AND THE EFFECTIVE COST OF AN IN-HOME HOUR
Typical journeyIndicative evening drive, one wayTravel the tutor commits per lessonWhat that does to the effective rate
Al Bateen to Al Mushrif10-15 minutesAbout 30 minutes returnModest; the island is the one area where in-home maths works

What a properly marked script looks like when it comes back

Most families have never seen a script marked the way an examiner marks one, which is why a grade with a tick and a well done feels like feedback. It is not. A marked script should show where each mark was awarded and where one was available and missed, in the language of the markscheme, so the student can see the gap rather than being told about it.

Four things should be visible even to a parent who does not know the subject. Marks should be allocated question by question, not as a single total. There should be annotation at the point of loss, not only at the end. The annotation should use the command term and the criterion language, saying that an explanation stopped after one link rather than saying more detail needed. And there should be one summary line that names the error class, so the same comment is not written again next month.

What should not be there is a rewritten answer in the tutor's handwriting. A model answer supplied after the student has attempted the question is a teaching tool and is fine. An answer written over the student's own is not marking; it replaces the thinking that was supposed to happen, and on coursework it crosses into territory the IB treats as misconduct.

Ask any provider for one marked script from a previous student with the identifying details removed, before you commit to a block. A provider who marks properly will send one without hesitation, because it is their strongest asset. A provider who has never marked anything will explain why they cannot.

04

The error log, and what the monthly record should say

Progress in tutoring is not a feeling and it is not a grade; grades move slowly and for several reasons at once. The usable unit is the error log: a written list of the specific habits costing marks, ranked by mark value, with each item marked retired when two consecutive pieces of work show it has gone. A log that shrinks is progress. A log that keeps acquiring new items every week means the diagnosis was never made properly.

The log also disciplines the tutor. It is uncomfortable to write down, four weeks in, that the second item on the list has not moved, which is exactly why it is useful. The monthly note should contain at least one sentence of that kind. A record in which everything is always going well is a marketing document, and families who have been through two providers recognise it immediately.

There is a scheduling benefit as well. When the log is explicit, the number of sessions needed becomes an estimate rather than a subscription. Two high-value habits can usually be moved inside six to eight weeks of weekly work with practice in between. A list of twelve small irritations cannot be moved at all, and the honest response to one is to re-diagnose rather than to sell a longer block.

The table shows the shape of a first month for a Diploma student. The specifics change by subject; the columns do not, and a parent should be able to fill the last column in from documents they have actually received rather than from memory of a conversation.

05

The coursework paper trail, and the line nobody should cross

  • Every draft session is logged with a date and a version, and the comments map to criterion letters.
  • Nobody on the platform supplies finished coursework for any component, at any price.
  • The test is whether the student could defend each sentence if asked in a viva.
  • Official papers and markschemes are linked to their source, never reproduced or sent as files.

Internal assessments, the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay are assessed as the student's own work, and a breach is an academic-misconduct matter that falls on the student rather than on whoever sold the help. This is the worst-behaved corner of this market: one page researched for this project advertises finished internal assessments at a fixed price. A family buying that is buying a risk attached to their child's candidature.

The boundary is clear enough to put in writing, and we do, before any coursework session. A tutor may teach the method, explain the assessment criteria, ask the questions an examiner would ask, mark a draft against the descriptors, point at reasoning that does not follow, and show a published exemplar. A tutor may not supply text, rework a passage into its final form, invent or adjust data, or decide the research question. The student makes every change.

The paper trail is what protects everybody. Each session on a draft is logged with the date and the version discussed, and the comments are criterion-referenced rather than editorial. If a question is ever raised at school, that record shows a sequence of the student's own drafts improving against published criteria, which is what honest supervision looks like. A single polished document appearing from nowhere is the opposite.

One more point on materials. Syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes and grade boundary tables belong to the IB, Cambridge and Pearson. We reference them and link to the official sites. We do not host them, supply them as files, or reproduce them here.

06

Checking that a tutor is permitted to teach in Abu Dhabi

The UAE regulates private tutoring by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page for it states a completion time of two working days and an application route through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published anywhere official, so no figure appears on this page.

Abu Dhabi adds a specific restriction that every parent in this emirate should know. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct has been reported as barring the same arrangement. Treat both as press-reported rather than as the authority's exact wording, and check the current policy document if the decision turns on it. The practical advice does not depend on the wording: a paid private arrangement with your child's own classroom teacher is the one to avoid.

A business with premises and staff is regulated differently again. In Dubai that is a KHDA educational services permit for a training institute; in Abu Dhabi the equivalent approval sits with ADEK. IB Gram is an online tutor-matching platform. It holds no ADEK licence, no KHDA permit, no accreditation from the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no office in the UAE. Two pages ranking for these searches imply one or more of those things, and a third routes UAE parents to an Indian mobile number while showing a Dubai address.

So the verification step for a parent is short. Ask where the tutor is resident. If they are in the UAE, ask for the permit number. If they are not, ask which qualification they hold and which syllabus they have taught, because no UAE permit applies to a non-resident teaching online. We answer both questions before a match is confirmed.

07

Month by month: what evidence should exist across DP1 and DP2

Across a two-year Diploma, the school generates a predictable sequence of evidence and most families only look at two points in it: the end-of-year report and the predicted grades. Reading the whole sequence is what lets you intervene while intervening is still cheap. A student whose internal assessment research question is still unsettled at the end of DP1 has a problem that costs one session in June and five in January.

The table sets out the sequence in programme terms rather than calendar dates. Specific dates vary by school, and IB session dates must come from your school's coordinator or ibo.org; this project could not verify any IB date from the IB itself, so none is stated. Cambridge and Pearson publish their own timetables, and those are worth linking for any student also carrying an IGCSE or A-Level subject: Pearson's November 2026 International GCSE series ran to 19 November 2026, with those results reaching students the following January, and Cambridge's UAE series are June and November, each closing entries months ahead of its own papers. The February-March series Cambridge publishes is offered to India only, so it is not a timetable to plan an Abu Dhabi student around.

Two columns are there for a reason. What the school produces is not negotiable and arrives whether you ask or not. What a tutor should produce in the same window is negotiable, and most providers produce nothing in several of these rows. The last column is what to ask for, phrased as the request rather than the principle.

Used properly this is also a budgeting tool. Tuition concentrated in the two windows where evidence is thinnest - the DP1 summer and the DP2 mock aftermath - does more per dirham than the same hours spread evenly across two years.

Online one-to-one against an in-home tutor in Abu Dhabi, compared properly

A fair comparison states what each option genuinely does better. An in-home tutor is physically present, which matters for a young child, for a student who will not sit down without someone in the room, and for anything involving physical apparatus. Online one-to-one gives you a specialist chosen for the component rather than the postcode, a shared screen that beats two people leaning over one page, session recordings, and no travel inside the rate. Group classes at a centre are cheaper per hour and better for a student who needs external structure.

For a Diploma student the decisive factor is usually match quality. The components that cost the most marks - internal assessment supervision, extended response structure, uncertainty treatment, criterion-referenced drafting - need someone who has done that specific thing many times. The number of such people inside a 20-minute drive of Al Reef at 6pm on a Tuesday is small. The number reachable over video is not limited by the bridge.

Rates in the table are market figures from providers' published pages in October 2026 and from a published Dubai rate survey, with the source stated. They are not IB Gram's price list. Our own answer to the price question starts with the free trial lesson and a session count attached to the error log.

The honest summary: IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE, so if physical presence is the requirement, this is not the right platform and we will say so on the first call rather than after the trial.

When a home tutor is genuinely the right answer

There are cases where the honest recommendation is an in-home tutor, and we make it. A seven-year-old who needs someone sitting beside them to stay on task is one. A student with a specific access requirement that makes a screen difficult is another. A household with genuinely unreliable connectivity is a third, although that is rarer in Abu Dhabi than people expect. In each of those cases online delivery is a compromise rather than an improvement, and pretending otherwise would waste a term.

What we would still suggest in those cases is to apply the same four questions to whoever you hire locally: residency and permit, named components, written output per session, and a specific diagnosis after one lesson. The questions are not about us. They are the ones that separate a professional from an available person, and they work equally well on a tutor who arrives by car.

For most Diploma and Middle Years students in this emirate, though, the physical-presence requirement is not real and the specialist-match requirement is. That is the trade this page is arguing: the value of the right person on the right component, every week, with written evidence, against the value of someone being in the room. For a sixteen-year-old working on the evaluation criterion of a Biology internal assessment, the first one wins by a distance.

If you want to test it cheaply, the trial lesson exists for exactly that. One free 45-minute session with your child's marked work on screen, no card details, and a specific diagnosis at the end. If the diagnosis is thin, you have lost nothing and learned something about how to interview the next provider.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities and what the drive actually costs

These notes are about the travel arithmetic in each community, because that is what decides whether an in-home arrangement is realistic and what it does to the rate. The pattern repeats across the emirate: the further a household sits from the island, the narrower the in-home tutor pool becomes.

Khalifa City

The largest concentration of international enrolment in the emirate and the longest evening drives. A tutor coming out from the island for a 6pm start leaves before 5pm, and that hour is inside your rate whether it is itemised or not.

Al Raha Beach

Apartment living with school access along the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road. The in-home pool here is thin because the drive is awkward in both directions, so Al Raha Beach families are usually quoted at the top of the in-home band.

Al Raha Gardens

Villa community feeding the Al Raha and Khalifa City schools. Afternoon sport runs late, so sessions start at 6pm or later, which is exactly the slot an in-home tutor cannot reach twice in one evening.

Al Reef

Furthest out of the commonly tutored communities, close to the airport. The in-home tutor pool in Al Reef is small enough that subject choice effectively disappears; over video the subject choice is unaffected by the postcode.

Saadiyat Island

Short distances but a single access route, and school pick-up traffic concentrates at the bridge. Saadiyat families often prefer early evening slots and value a session recording more than a longer lesson.

Yas Island

Mixed apartment and villa living with weekend traffic that makes Saturday morning tuition unreliable by car. A fixed weekday slot over video solves the problem that Yas Island families most often describe.

Al Bandar

A compact waterfront community within the Al Raha area, with students bussed to several different schools. Households here commonly run two children on different assessment calendars and want staggered slots in the same evening.

Hydra Village

Outlying villa community where in-home quotes carry the longest travel in the emirate. Hydra Village is the clearest case for online delivery: the tutor pool within a sensible drive is close to empty for specific Diploma subjects.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City and Al Raha

Students we support from this cluster are mostly Diploma candidates working on internal assessment drafts and Paper 2 structure. It is also the cluster where the gap between an in-home tutor pool and an online one is widest, because the evening drive eliminates most specialists.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • Al Bateen Academy

Saadiyat Island and Yas Island

Newer campuses with a high proportion of families who arrived in Abu Dhabi mid-cycle. The common request from this cluster is a tutor who can bring a student up to IB assessment conventions quickly while the content is still being taught for the first time.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi

Al Reef, Al Shamkha and the airport corridor

Outlying communities where in-home subject choice is effectively limited to whoever lives nearby. Requests from this cluster are usually for a specific Diploma subject at Higher Level, which is precisely the match a driving radius cannot make.

  • GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Bright Riders School
  • Shining Star International School

Schools are named only as context for the Abu Dhabi education market. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform and has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement from any school, school group or education authority mentioned on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the most recent marked work

A mock script, a timed essay, or an internal assessment draft with the teacher's comments on it. One real piece of marked work tells a tutor more than a long phone call about the term. If you have a report with criterion marks across two cycles, send that as well; it is the fastest read available.

  2. 02

    A free 45-minute diagnostic lesson

A working session rather than a sales call. The tutor marks part of the work with your child, names the error classes they can see, and tests one live. No charge and no card details. If the honest diagnosis is that your child needs teaching rather than technique work, or a different subject entirely, we say so.

  3. 03

The written error log and a fixed session count

You receive the error classes ranked by mark value, with a proposed number of sessions attached and an end date. The count is agreed before anything starts. A short log means a short block; we would rather run six useful sessions than sell a subscription that nobody reviews.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marking in between

The tutor marks the week's work before the session, so the hour is spent on the gap rather than on reading. The annotated script comes back within a day, the log is updated, and every session opens by checking what happened to last week's item. That is how items get retired instead of repeated.

  5. 05

A monthly note and an end-of-block handover

Once a month you get a written note that says what moved, what did not, and what is next. At the end of the block your child sits a full paper under exam conditions, marked to the published criteria, and the handover records what is still weak. If a second block is not needed, the handover says that.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Everything is written down

Annotated scripts, a ranked error log, dated coursework draft records and a monthly note. You can audit whether the log is shrinking without knowing the subject. Progress that exists only in a tutor's description of it is indistinguishable from no progress at all.

The match is made on the component, not the drive

Because sessions run over live video, the question is which part of the assessment your child is losing marks in. A family in Hydra Village and a family in Al Bateen get the same tutor pool, which is not true of any in-home arrangement in this emirate.

We tell you where the tutor lives

Residency and permit status are stated before a match is confirmed. UAE-based tutors are asked for their MoHRE private tuition permit number. Where a tutor is outside the UAE we say so, because no UAE permit applies to a non-resident and you should know which it is.

Marking happens before the session

The work is marked against the published criteria before the hour starts, so the lesson is spent on the gap rather than on reading the script together. Most families have never been offered this, and it is the single biggest difference in what an hour produces.

The honesty line on coursework is in writing

Before any work on an internal assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, both the student and you receive the boundary in writing: what a tutor may question and mark, and what the student must do alone. Nobody on the platform supplies text for assessed work.

We say no to the wrong purchase

If one free lesson shows a syllabus gap rather than a technique problem, we recommend teaching instead. If no tutor on the platform covers your child's subject at the level needed, we say that rather than matching somebody approximate and hoping.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How do I check that a home tutor in Abu Dhabi is really qualified for the IB?+

Ask about components rather than credentials. A tutor who has genuinely worked on Biology HL can tell you what the evaluation criterion of the internal assessment rewards, without pausing, and can name where students lose marks on Paper 2. That question cannot be bluffed. Then ask for one marked script from a previous student with the identifying details removed. A tutor who marks properly sends one immediately, because it is their strongest asset. Years of experience, student counts and self-published star ratings cannot be checked at all, so they tell you nothing useful about the person who will teach your child.

What does a home tutor in Abu Dhabi charge once travel is counted?+

Published in-home rates in the UAE market run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, and a 2026 Dubai rate survey puts the usual band at AED 180 to AED 350. Travel sits inside those figures whether or not the invoice itemises it. The reason is arithmetic: a tutor driving between households can deliver two lessons on a weekday evening, sometimes three, so the hourly rate has to cover the journeys. That is why the same tutor quotes differently for Al Mushrif and for Al Reef, and why nobody with a specialism is free at 6pm in the outer communities.

Will anyone actually come to our address in Abu Dhabi?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Abu Dhabi families get one-to-one tuition over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's work marked before each session and the annotated script returned afterwards. If physical presence in the room is the requirement - a young child who will not sit still, or a specific access need - we will tell you on the first call that this is not the right platform, rather than letting you discover it after a trial lesson.

What should a marked script actually look like when it comes back?+

Marks allocated question by question rather than as one total. Annotation at the point where a mark was lost, not only at the end. Comments in the language of the markscheme or the criteria, saying that an explanation stopped after one link rather than writing more detail needed. And one summary line naming the error class, so the same comment is not written again next month. What should not be there is the answer rewritten in the tutor's hand over the student's own, which replaces the thinking that was meant to happen.

How quickly should I expect the grade to move?+

Grades move slowly and for several reasons at once, so they are a poor weekly measure. The usable measure is the error log: the specific habits costing marks, ranked by value, each marked retired when two consecutive pieces of work show it has gone. Two high-value habits can usually be shifted inside six to eight weeks of weekly work with practice in between. A grade band shift often shows at the next set of internal examinations rather than immediately. A provider who promises a particular grade is describing something no tutor controls, because examiners do.

What progress record do parents receive each month?+

A short written note with three parts: what moved, what did not, and what is next. The second part is the one that matters, because it is uncomfortable to write and therefore informative. A record in which everything is always going well is a marketing document. Alongside the monthly note you receive the annotated scripts from each session, the current error log with retired items marked, and for coursework a dated record of which draft was discussed on which day. You should be able to audit the log without knowing the subject.

How do I verify that a tutor holds the UAE private tuition permit?+

Ask for the permit and the number. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years; MoHRE's service page states a two-working-day completion time and an application route through its app, website and e-services. Eligible categories include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged 15 to 18. People tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so ignore any figure you see quoted.

Can a tutor tell me which Internal Assessments they have supervised?+

A real one can, by subject and level, and will usually volunteer what goes wrong most often in that component. That specificity is the test. Supervision experience matters more than teaching experience for the internal assessment, because the work is criterion-marked and the criteria reward things that are not obvious: feasibility of the research question, the quality of the evaluation, and whether the method description is proportionate. A tutor who talks about internal assessments in general terms, without naming criteria or typical failures, has probably read the guide rather than marked the work.

What evidence should I ask for before paying for a block of sessions?+

Four things, all of which exist before any money moves. A specific diagnosis after one free lesson, with named error classes and rough mark values attached. A sample marked script from a previous student with the details removed. A statement of where the tutor is resident and whether they hold the private tuition permit. And a proposed session count with an end date, rather than an open arrangement. If any of the four produces a vague answer, that is the answer. Providers who have the evidence produce it quickly, because it is what distinguishes them.

Is a tutor who lives nearby better than one who knows the subject?+

For a young child, often yes. For a Diploma student, almost never. The components that cost the most marks need someone who has done that specific thing repeatedly: supervised internal assessments in the subject, marked extended responses, handled uncertainty treatment in the sciences. The number of such people within a 20-minute drive of Al Reef at 6pm is small, and the family ends up choosing from whoever makes the journey rather than from specialists. Over video the postcode stops being a filter, and a household in Hydra Village gets the same pool as one in Al Bateen.

Can a tutor work on my child's Extended Essay draft?+

Within a boundary we state in writing before the first session. A tutor may question the research question, explain the assessment criteria, mark a draft against the descriptors, point at reasoning that does not follow, ask the questions an examiner would ask, and show a published exemplar. A tutor may not supply text, rework a passage into its final form, or decide the argument. The student makes every change and the school supervisor remains the authority on the task. The test we apply is whether your child could explain, in a viva, why each sentence is in the essay.

What happens if the first tutor is not the right match?+

Tell us after the first or second session and we move your child, with the error log and the marked scripts transferring across so nothing restarts from zero. Mismatches usually show early and usually are not about competence: a student who needs to be interrupted and questioned does badly with a patient explainer, and the reverse is equally true. The written record is what makes a change cheap rather than wasteful. A provider who treats a requested change as a complaint rather than as information is telling you something about how they operate.

Which Abu Dhabi schools do the students you support attend?+

Students we support attend schools across the emirate, concentrated in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, on Saadiyat and Yas Island, and in the older island communities around Al Bateen and Al Mushrif. We name schools on this page only as market context. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement from any school, school group or education authority in the UAE, and we do not publish a list of schools as though it implied one. If a provider shows you a wall of school logos, ask what the relationship actually is.

Can you tutor two children in the same household at different levels?+

Yes, and it is common in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor, where one household often has a Diploma candidate and a Middle Years student on different assessment calendars. They get separate tutors matched to subject and level, separate error logs and separate monthly notes, in back-to-back evening slots. Nothing is shared except the household calendar, and either slot can be paused without affecting the other. Trying to cover two children with one tutor in one session saves money on paper and reliably produces two half-sessions.

What does the free trial lesson include, and what is the condition attached?+

One 45-minute one-to-one session over live video, with your child's own marked work on screen. The tutor marks part of it, names the error classes, and tests one live. The condition is simply that it is one session per student, booked in a slot we both agree, and that you send the marked work beforehand so the time is not spent reading. No card details are taken and there is no obligation to continue. If the diagnosis at the end is vague, you have lost nothing and gained a way to interview the next provider.

Ask for the evidence first

If you are comparing providers, the cheapest useful step is to ask each one the same four questions: where the tutor is resident and whether they hold the private tuition permit, which IB components they have taught and supervised by name, what arrives in writing after each session, and what their diagnosis is after one lesson with your child's marked work in front of them. Ours is a free 45-minute session with no card details. You will leave it with a ranked error log and a proposed session count. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so the tutor is chosen for the component rather than for a driving radius across Abu Dhabi.
