IB IGCSE Home Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Parents looking for an IB IGCSE home tutor in Abu Dhabi are solving a logistics problem as much as an academic one: a 15:30 school finish, a long drive home, homework that stalls by 18:00, and nobody in the house who can explain the Extended-tier chemistry. This page answers the home-tuition question properly. What the Abu Dhabi market charges, what the evening drive does to that number, which permit a private tutor must hold, and how a one-to-one video lesson compares on cost, supply and scheduling. IB Gram delivers to Abu Dhabi families online, not by visiting.

Why Abu Dhabi families search for a home tutor, and what they are really buying

The request is almost always the same shape. A Year 10 or Year 11 student is behind in two subjects, or a DP1 student has hit Higher Level and the evenings have become a negotiation. The parent wants somebody competent in the house at a fixed hour, because that removes the organising problem: no driving to a centre at 17:00, no supervising a screen, somebody else owning the hour. That is a reasonable thing to want, and it is worth being honest about what it costs and what it gives up.

What it costs is visible in the Abu Dhabi market. A home visit prices in the tutor's travel. Published market surveys put in-home one-to-one tuition in the UAE at roughly AED 180 to 350 per hour, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500, and monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions seen between AED 1,599 and AED 1,799. Qualified online subject tutors sit lower, with one agency listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Those are other providers' published figures with the date attached, not ours.

What it gives up is choice. A tutor who can be in Al Reef at 17:00 on a Tuesday is drawn from the set of competent people who happen to live within a drivable radius and have that slot free. For general maths support in Year 9 that pool is adequate. For Cambridge Chemistry 0620 at Extended tier, Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1, or Higher Level Diploma Physics, the pool of people who can teach that specification against its mark scheme is small in any one city, and geography shrinks it further.

There is also a rule most families have not been told about. Private tuition in the UAE is regulated: an individual giving private lessons needs a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and those operating without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Anybody who tells you tutoring is unregulated, or quotes you a fine figure, is working from something other than the published position.

IB Gram's own answer to all of this is online, one to one, over live video, with a shared screen and marked scripts that the family keeps and can reread months later during revision. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits exist only in our India service. The sections below set out the comparison honestly, including the cases where a visiting tutor genuinely suits a family better, and the questions worth asking any private tutor you find independently.

At a glance

  • In-home market rates include the tutor's travel, whether or not it appears as a line item
  • Private tutors in the UAE need a MoHRE work permit; it is free and valid for two years
  • School staff are barred from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school in Abu Dhabi, per press-reported ADEK ethics rules
  • Online delivery removes the driving radius from the matching problem, which matters most for niche specifications
  • Lead forms here collect personal data about a minor, so the purpose and deletion route are stated
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes account for nearly every home-tutor request from Abu Dhabi. What follows is less about the syllabus content than about how each one behaves inside a weekly session plan, and where specialist supply runs thin locally.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Two years, typically eight or nine subjects, externally examined, with the tier decision locked at entry in the Cambridge subjects that tier. Sessions divide cleanly into content teaching and paper-skills work, which makes IGCSE the easiest level to support in a weekly hour. It is also the level where parents most often hire two tutors for two subjects and need the slots to not collide.

In Abu Dhabi the awkward part is the clock rather than the content. Secondary school days commonly end between 14:45 and 15:30, buses run for up to an hour in the mainland communities, and a visiting tutor has to arrive after that and before the evening collapses. Online sessions in the same window do not lose the travel margin, so a 16:15 start is realistic in Al Shamkha as well as in Al Khalidiyah.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at mixed Higher and Standard Level, plus the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and the Internal Assessments. Demand is concentrated and seasonal: Higher Level sciences and mathematics through the year, and coursework supervision between October and February when school internal deadlines cluster. These are the requests most likely to need somebody outside a driving radius.

Diploma supply is the real constraint in Abu Dhabi. A home tutor who teaches Higher Level Chemistry to the current guide, in the right evening slot, in one specific community, is a narrow intersection. Families on Saadiyat Island and Al Reem Island who have tried to fill it locally usually arrive having been offered a general science graduate instead, which is how a term gets spent on the wrong problem.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed with no external paper until the optional MYP 5 eAssessment, which changes what tutoring is for. The useful work is building the fluency and writing stamina the Diploma will assume, not chasing a mark scheme that does not yet exist. Parents often arrive asking for exam practice and leave with a plan about manipulation speed and extended writing instead.

Several Abu Dhabi schools run a Middle Years stream and a British-curriculum stream under one roof, so a household can have one child on criteria and another on tiers in the same term. One tutor rarely covers both well. Online matching lets a family book two different specialists into consecutive slots, which a single visiting tutor cannot replicate however willing they are.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects Abu Dhabi families most often try to fill with a visiting tutor, with an honest note on how thin local specialist supply tends to be in each. Thin supply is the main reason a family ends up with a competent generalist instead of a specialist.

Chemistry (IB DP)

HL and SL

Assessed through two papers plus a scientific investigation worth a fifth of the grade. Higher Level depth in energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms is the part a generalist cannot cover. Local in-home supply for current-guide Higher Level Chemistry is the single thinnest request we see from this emirate.

Physics (IB DP)

HL and SL

The difficulty is mathematical before it is conceptual: vector resolution, rearrangement under time pressure and the Higher Level fields topic. Students arriving from a strong IGCSE grade often stall here. A tutor who teaches Physics without the mathematics behind it produces comfortable sessions and flat paper scores.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

IB HL and SL

Higher Level carries Paper 3, worth a fifth of the grade, with extended investigations unlike any other paper. Proof by induction, complex numbers and series work are the usual separate-tutoring topics. Families who hire for general maths help rather than for this route end up re-hiring in the second term.

Mathematics (Cambridge IGCSE 0580)

Core and Extended

The widest supply of any subject here, and the easiest to fill locally. Extended-tier algebra and the multi-step problems that combine topics are where marks go. Current assessment includes a non-calculator component, so revision has to include timed manipulation drills rather than calculator practice alone.

Chemistry (Cambridge IGCSE 0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations and organic chemistry carry most of the lost marks at Extended tier, alongside the pure-recall tests for ions that get left unrevised. Reasonable local supply at Core tier, noticeably thinner for Extended-tier teaching that works to the published mark scheme.

Physics (Pearson Edexcel 4PH1)

International GCSE

A different paper structure from Cambridge 0625, which matters when a tutor is working from the wrong board's past papers. Electricity, moments and the equation-selection questions are the recurring losses. Ask any prospective tutor which specification code they have taught most recently.

Further Pure Mathematics (Pearson Edexcel 4PM1)

International GCSE

Taken by a small, able group, usually alongside Mathematics A. Local in-home supply is effectively nil in most Abu Dhabi communities, because the number of people teaching it in any city is small. This is the clearest case for matching on specification rather than on distance.

Arabic (first and additional language)

IGCSE and IB DP

Mandated alongside the licensed international curriculum under federal rules, and assessed separately at IGCSE and Diploma level. Demand is steady and supply is competitive locally, but the first-language Diploma route is specialised and the two should not be treated as one subject when hiring.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE and IB DP

Won on the extended evaluation questions, where students explain two advantages and never weigh them. Diagram accuracy is a mark-scheme item in Economics. Supply is adequate locally at IGCSE and thinner for Higher Level Diploma Economics with its own internal assessment requirements.

Computer Science

IGCSE and IB DP

Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and the written paper's precision requirements decide the grade more than programming ability does. Few students need a developer; most need somebody who has marked the paper. Local specialist supply is thin at Higher Level in particular.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy one-to-one help, all delivered over live video. The difference is what each one is good at solving, and each has a case where it is the wrong choice.

Fixed weekly slot with one tutor

The closest format to what families picture when they search for a home tutor: same person, same hour, every week, through a term. It is the only format that reliably moves a grade, because the tutor sets work, marks it, and sees the same error twice. It is the wrong choice six weeks before an exam with nothing diagnosed.

  • Same tutor and slot, reviewed each half term
  • Work set and marked between sessions
  • Written note after each lesson on what was covered
  • Can be paused for school examination weeks

Two siblings, consecutive slots

Common in Abu Dhabi households where one child is on IGCSE tiers and another on Middle Years criteria. Two different specialists take back-to-back slots on the same evening, which a single visiting tutor cannot do well because competence rarely spans both at once.

  • Different specialist per child, same evening
  • No second journey and no second waiting hour
  • One point of contact for scheduling changes
  • Separate session notes so progress is not blurred together

Short diagnostic block

Four to six sessions aimed at answering one question: what is actually wrong, and is an hour a week going to fix it. It ends with a written assessment and a recommendation, including the recommendation not to continue if the evidence does not support it.

  • Starts with a free trial and a written diagnostic
  • Marked past-paper evidence rather than impressions
  • Clear recommendation at the end, including no further sessions
  • No package purchase required before the trial

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What an Abu Dhabi home visit costs once the drive is counted

In-home tuition prices travel, whether or not travel appears on the invoice. Market surveys put UAE in-home one-to-one tuition at roughly AED 180 to 350 per hour, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500, while qualified online subject tutors are listed from about AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB by one agency publishing its rates. The gap between those bands is not a quality difference. It is a vehicle, a fuel bill and ninety minutes of somebody's evening.

The arithmetic becomes clearer per community. A tutor teaching one hour in Al Shamkha and returning to the island spends most of an extra hour driving, in the window when Abu Dhabi's roads are busiest. Across a week of five visits in five communities, that is several unpaid hours that the hourly rate has to absorb, which is why in-home rates sit above online ones and why most in-home providers impose a minimum session length or a package rather than selling a single hour.

That minimum matters to a parent in a specific way. If a provider sells two-hour visits only, the effective weekly cost doubles whether or not the student can concentrate for two hours. Monthly in-home packages advertised in this market have been seen at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions, against about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions from another provider. Both are other companies' published figures, surveyed in October 2026, and both will have moved by the time you read them.

The table below sets out the travel reality by community as a planning estimate from typical road distances in the late-afternoon window, not as a measured figure. The point is not the exact number of minutes. It is that a visiting tutor's realistic weekly radius in Abu Dhabi is small, and that every minute in it is paid for somewhere in the rate.

TRAVEL REALITY BY COMMUNITY - PLANNING ESTIMATES FOR A 16:00-18:30 VISIT

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach privately in the UAE?

This is the question almost nobody asks and everybody should. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on the introduction of private tuition work permits. The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws.

Eligibility is broader than parents expect. The published list of eligible applicants includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, listed as issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing, available through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with no fees listed and a completion time of two working days.

Two things follow for a family hiring privately. The first is that asking to see a permit is a normal, answerable request, not an accusation; the permit is free and quick to obtain, so an experienced tutor who does not hold one has chosen not to. The second is that no fine amount should ever be quoted to you. Press reporting has been explicit that the ministry did not specify fine amounts or detail the penalties, and figures circulating online could not be verified against any official source.

A separate rule covers organisations rather than individuals. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs an educational services permit for a training institute from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, with initial approval first and a window to complete the permit and licence steps. That is a different instrument from an individual's tutoring permit, and neither one makes a provider regulator-endorsed. IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or licence of any kind, and any provider implying otherwise should be asked for the permit number.

Why your child's own teacher is the wrong person to hire

It is the first idea most parents have, and in Abu Dhabi it runs into a conduct rule. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, with teachers tutoring outside school hours required to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact wording, and verify it against ADEK's current published policy before relying on it.

The reasoning holds regardless of the precise wording. A teacher who sets and marks the school assessment and is also paid privately by one family in the class is in an obvious conflict, and the student carries the consequences if anybody raises it. Families sometimes propose a workaround: a teacher from the same school but a different class, or a different year group. That is still a member of staff tutoring a student enrolled at their school, which is the thing the conduct rule describes.

What a family is actually chasing here is alignment. The school teacher knows the scheme of work, the internal deadlines and the mock paper. That knowledge is obtainable without the conflict. Share the scheme of work, the assessment calendar and the marked mock with an independent tutor, and they can teach against the same sequence. The one thing an outside tutor cannot and should not have is advance knowledge of the school's unseen assessment, which is also the thing it would be inappropriate to buy.

A second workaround worth refusing is the tutor who offers access to unreleased papers, mark schemes or boundary data. Boards' syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are copyright material and should be read on the boards' own sites rather than redistributed, and anything described as advance access to unreleased material is a malpractice exposure for the student. A tutor's legitimate edge is having marked the published papers carefully, not having obtained the unpublished ones.

04

Online, in-home or group - the comparison for this emirate

There are three honest options and each wins somewhere. A visiting tutor wins on the organising problem: no device to supervise, no connection to worry about, and a student who will not sit still for a screen is physically in the room with somebody. For primary-age children, for students with specific attention needs, and for families who simply want the hour taken off their hands, that is a real advantage and no comparison table should pretend otherwise.

Online one-to-one wins on supply, price and record. The tutor is chosen from everyone who teaches that specification rather than everyone within a drive, the rate does not carry a vehicle, and the session leaves behind an annotated script and a set of notes the student can revisit. For Extended-tier sciences, both Diploma mathematics routes and Higher Level subjects generally, supply is the deciding factor: the right specialist is rarely the nearest one.

Group classes win on price per student and lose on diagnosis. A class of four moves at the pace of the group, which suits revision of known content and does not suit a student with a specific gap. The useful combination is often a group revision class for breadth plus a handful of one-to-one sessions on the two things actually costing marks, rather than paying one-to-one rates for content the student would absorb fine in a group.

For completeness: IB Gram does not provide in-home visits in Abu Dhabi, so the in-home column below describes what the market offers rather than something we sell. Families who conclude that a visiting tutor is right for their child should hire one, ask for the MoHRE permit, and check the specification experience as carefully as they would online. We would rather publish the comparison than win the decision by leaving a column out.

What a shared screen does that a kitchen table cannot

The strongest practical argument for video delivery is not convenience, it is the record. A student photographs a past paper attempt and sends it before the session. The tutor marks it against the published mark scheme, then shares the annotated script on screen and walks through where each mark was awarded and where it was lost. The marked file stays with the family. Six weeks later, during revision, the student can reread exactly why three marks went missing on a moments question.

At a table, that same conversation happens in pencil on the student's only copy and lives in memory. Nothing about it is worse in the moment; it is simply not durable. The same applies to the error log a good tutor keeps across sessions. Written down and shared, it turns into a revision list. Held in the tutor's head, it ends when the engagement does, which is a loss a family has effectively paid for.

Two more mechanics matter for these subjects specifically. Graph and diagram work is easier to assess on a shared digital canvas, where the tutor can draw a line of best fit over the student's own plotted points rather than describing what is wrong with it. And for mathematics, screen-shared working lets the tutor interrupt at the step where the method mark was lost, instead of at the end where only the answer is visible.

What is genuinely harder online is the start. A student who arrives tired and unwilling is easier to move in person, and a parent who has to set up a device and then leave the room is doing more work than one who answers the door. The honest mitigation is structure: a fixed slot, a device on a desk rather than a lap, work sent in advance so the session begins with something concrete, and a short written note afterwards so the parent knows what happened without having sat through it.

06

Scheduling around the school run, prayer times and Ramadan

Abu Dhabi's evening is tightly packed. Secondary days commonly end between 14:45 and 15:30, bus routes to the mainland communities can run close to an hour, and families then have prayer times, younger siblings and dinner to place around whatever tutoring slot is agreed. Most of the complaints we hear about tutoring, in-home or online, turn out to be complaints about the time it was booked rather than about the teaching.

Two workable patterns exist. The early slot, from 15:45 to 17:00, suits island communities with short runs and suits younger students whose concentration fades after dinner. The late slot, from 18:30 to 20:00, suits mainland communities and older Diploma students who need the earlier evening for homework. The slot to avoid is the one immediately after a long bus journey, which looks efficient on paper and produces an hour of nothing.

Ramadan reshapes the whole plan, and it is the single most common reason for a schedule to be rebuilt mid-term. School hours shorten, concentration moves, and many families prefer sessions after Iftar. Online slots move more easily than visits, because there is no journey to recalculate, and a tutor working later in the evening does not also need to drive home afterwards. It is worth agreeing the Ramadan pattern several weeks ahead rather than in the first week.

Examination weeks need the opposite treatment. During the school's own assessment weeks, a weekly session often does more harm than good: the student needs revision time, not new input. Pausing for two weeks and resuming with a marked-paper focus afterwards is usually the better plan, and it is one of the few places where a provider's willingness to pause rather than bill is worth asking about before you start.

07

Eleven questions to ask a private tutor before the first paid hour

  • Which specification code and board have you taught most recently?
  • What is the weighting of the component my child is weakest in?
  • What will you set between sessions, and who marks it?
  • Do you hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit?
  • Exactly what will you do, and refuse to do, with a coursework draft?
  • What evidence will we look at in six weeks to decide whether to continue?

If you hire independently, the quality of the hire comes down to the questions asked before money changes hands. Most parents ask about qualifications and years of experience, which are the two least diagnostic things on the list. A good tutor answers specification questions crisply and without defensiveness, and a weak one answers them with general reassurance about rapport and confidence.

The questions that actually discriminate are concrete. Which specification code have you taught most recently, and for which board. What is the weighting of the component my child is weakest in. What will you set between sessions, and will you mark it. Do you hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. What is your position on coursework: will you look at an Internal Assessment draft, and what exactly will you do with it. How will we know in six weeks whether this is working.

Three answers should end the conversation. An offer to write, complete or substantially revise an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, which is academic malpractice and risks the student's diploma. A claim of regulator or examination-board approval, accreditation or partnership, which no tutoring provider in this market should be making unless it can show the permit or centre number. And a promise of a particular grade or a specific number of points, which nobody can make honestly because nobody controls the marking.

One more is worth adding in Abu Dhabi specifically: is anyone in this arrangement a member of staff at my child's own school. If the answer is yes, the press-reported ADEK ethics position and the permit's code of conduct both point the other way, and the sensible move is to find somebody independent. None of these questions require expertise to ask, and a tutor worth hiring will be pleased to be asked them.

08

What we collect about your child, and how to have it deleted

A tutoring enquiry collects personal data about a minor, and that deserves stating rather than burying. A request form here asks for the student's year group, subject, board and level, the next assessment date, and a parent's contact details. That is what is needed to match a specialist and nothing else. We do not need a child's photograph, their full report card, their school's internal assessment data or their date of birth to answer the question of who can teach 0620 Extended on a Tuesday.

Marked work sent for a session is used for teaching and feedback. If a family asks for it to be removed after an engagement ends, it is removed. Session notes exist so a parent can see what was covered and a tutor can keep an error log; they are not a profile and they are not shared with anybody outside the match. The UAE's personal data protection framework, Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, is the governing instrument, and a privacy link sits on every page of this site.

Two patterns worth refusing elsewhere. A provider that requires a child's photograph or school grades before giving a price is collecting more than it needs for that answer. And a provider that asks for payment before any contact with a tutor is asking a family to commit before diagnosing anything. A free trial lesson with no card required solves both: you meet the tutor, you get a written diagnostic, and you decide afterwards.

Finally, the conversion path on this page is deliberately a UAE-appropriate one. Some competing pages route Abu Dhabi parents to a +91 number or show a Dubai office address on an Abu Dhabi page. IB Gram has no office, centre or branch in the UAE, and says so rather than implying a local presence it does not have. Delivery is online, the tutors are matched by specification, and the trial costs nothing.

Where we tutor

Communities, commutes and what they do to a session time

Abu Dhabi's geography is the reason the home-tutor question is really a scheduling question. The notes below are about when a session can realistically start in each community, which online delivery resolves differently from a visiting tutor.

Al Khalidiyah

Central island district with short school runs and an older school estate nearby. One of the few areas where a 15:45 start is genuinely workable, which widens the choice of tutors in the earlier Gulf Standard Time slots.

Al Shamkha

A large mainland community well outside the island, where bus journeys are long and the evening starts late. A visiting tutor here is drawn from a small local pool or prices in a substantial drive; a 17:30 online slot avoids both problems.

Al Reef

Villa and apartment community near the airport road, popular with families whose children travel to schools in the Khalifa City corridor. Requests from here are heavily weighted to IGCSE sciences and tend to need post-18:00 slots.

Masdar City

A compact, planned community with a small resident school-age population and very limited local tutoring supply. Families here are usually choosing between a long drive and an online slot, and the specification they need decides it.

Al Nahyan

Established central district with mixed curriculum enrolment and good access to the island schools. Short commutes make early-evening sessions straightforward and make scheduling two siblings back to back realistic.

Shakhbout City

Mainland villa community with a long run to the island and to parts of the Khalifa City corridor. The commute, rather than the subject, is the usual reason families here abandon a centre-based class and move to a fixed online slot.

Baniyas

An older mainland community with its own schools and a long distance to the island estate. Local in-home supply skews towards general subjects rather than Extended-tier or Higher Level specialists.

Al Maryah Island

Small, dense and central, with almost no resident tutoring market of its own. Families here pick a slot and a specialist rather than a radius, which is exactly the pattern online matching is built for.

Island communities: Al Khalidiyah, Al Nahyan, Al Bateen

Short school runs and the emirate's longest-established school estate. Students we support here are mostly IGCSE candidates needing Extended-tier science and mathematics, and the early-evening slot is easy to fill.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Mushrif Academy

Mainland communities: Al Shamkha, Al Reef, Shakhbout City, Baniyas

Long bus journeys and later evenings, with enrolment spread across the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor schools. Session times here typically start at 17:30 or later, and local specialist supply for Diploma subjects is limited.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Reach British School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National Schools
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi

Schools are listed as context for the Abu Dhabi schooling market only; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any named school is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the specification and the next date

The useful enquiry names the board and syllabus code, the tier or level, the year group and the next assessment date. Cambridge Physics 0625 Extended, Year 11, mock in five weeks is enough to match a specialist immediately. Help with science, Year 11 takes two more messages before anybody can do anything with it.

  2. 02

Tell us the slot that survives the school run

Give us the window that works after the bus, not the window that looks tidy. Communities outside the island usually need 17:30 or later; island districts can often take 15:45. Naming the real constraint first avoids the common failure of a perfectly matched tutor in an impossible slot.

  3. 03

    Free trial lesson, written diagnostic

The first session is free, requires no card, and runs on real questions from the student's own specification. It ends with a written note of what is costing marks and what the first month would target. The note is yours whether or not you continue, and if the match is wrong we will match again or say we cannot.

  4. 04

Weekly teaching, marked work in between

A fixed slot on Gulf Standard Time, work set and marked between sessions, an error log carried across lessons and a short written note after each one. Marked scripts are shared as files the family keeps, which is the part that survives the engagement and feeds revision later.

  5. 05

Review on evidence, pause when school exams land

Each half term we look at marked papers and the error log rather than impressions. Sessions pause during the school's own assessment weeks, when a student needs revision time more than new input, and resume with a paper-skills focus. If the evidence shows no movement, we will say so.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The pool is national, not local

Matching happens on specification and availability, so a Higher Level Chemistry specialist or a Pearson 4PM1 teacher is reachable from Al Shamkha as easily as from Al Khalidiyah. The most expensive mistake in local hiring is accepting a competent generalist because they were the only person free within a twenty-minute drive.

Rates quoted with their source

Every AED figure on this page names the provider or survey it came from and the month it was read. None of them is our price. That is deliberate: three of six competing pages in this market publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote in a currency UAE families do not transact in.

The permit question answered in full

The MoHRE private tuition permit, its two-year validity, the fact that it is free, the eligible categories and the official application route are all set out here with the source named. No fine figure appears, because the ministry has not published one and the numbers circulating online cannot be verified.

A published coursework boundary

Tutors teach criteria, question methods and give feedback on the student's own draft. No text is supplied for submission, and no board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes are redistributed as downloads. In a market where one site sells completed Internal Assessments outright, that boundary is the thing worth checking first.

Evidence you can hold

Marked scripts with the mark scheme applied, a carried-forward error log and a written note after each lesson. We publish no success percentages and no ratings, because any figure we cannot show you the method behind is not evidence. The marked work is the evidence.

Honest about delivery and about limits

Lessons are online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, operates no UAE centre and holds no regulator accreditation. Where a subject has no specialist free, you are told the wait or told plainly that we cannot cover it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Can I book an IB or IGCSE home tutor to come to our villa in Abu Dhabi?+

Not through IB Gram. Tuition for families in Abu Dhabi is delivered online, one to one, over live video with a shared screen; home visits are a service we run only in India, not anywhere in the UAE. The reason is supply rather than preference: the people who teach Cambridge 0620 Extended or Higher Level Diploma Chemistry well are not reliably the people living a twenty-minute drive from any given community. If a visiting tutor is genuinely what suits your child, hire one locally, ask to see the MoHRE private tuition permit, and check which specification they have taught most recently.

How much do home tutors charge per hour in Abu Dhabi right now?+

Market surveys read in October 2026 put UAE in-home one-to-one tuition at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500 depending on level and subject. Monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions have been listed between AED 1,599 and AED 1,799. Qualified online subject tutors sit lower: one agency publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Those are other providers' figures with the date attached, not our price list, and they move. Treat any quote without a stated session length and inclusion list as incomplete.

Does a private tutor in Abu Dhabi need a licence or permit?+

Yes. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and the published eligible categories include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists the application through its smart app, website and e-services with a two working day completion time. No fine amount has been published, so do not accept a figure from anyone.

Is it allowed to pay one of my child's own Abu Dhabi school teachers for private lessons?+

It is the wrong hire in Abu Dhabi. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers giving paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Verify the current position against ADEK's published document before relying on it. The conflict is obvious in any case: the same person would be setting the assessment and being paid by one family in the class. Share the scheme of work with an independent tutor instead, which gets you the alignment without the conflict.

Is a visiting tutor better than online for a Year 11 doing Extended-tier sciences?+

On supply, no. Extended-tier Cambridge sciences need somebody who teaches to the published mark scheme and knows the practical or alternative-to-practical component as a format, and in any one city that group is small. Restricting it to people who can drive to your community at 17:00 usually means accepting a generalist. On organisation, a visiting tutor can be better, particularly for younger students or where a parent cannot supervise a device. The honest split is that in-home wins the logistics and online wins the specialist, and for Extended tier in Year 11 the specialist is normally the thing that moves the grade.

What time can sessions start if we live in Al Shamkha or Al Reef?+

Online, around 16:15 is realistic once the bus has run. For a visiting tutor, expect 17:15 to 17:30 at the earliest, because the drive from the island in the late afternoon runs 35 to 50 minutes each way as a planning estimate. That difference compounds across a week: the same tutor can take an earlier slot and a later one online, whereas a visit effectively consumes the whole evening. Island districts such as Al Khalidiyah and Al Nahyan can usually take 15:45 either way, which is why early slots are easier to fill there.

Can one tutor cover two children in different year groups?+

Sometimes, but it is usually the wrong request. A tutor strong on Middle Years Programme criteria work is rarely the same person who teaches Extended-tier IGCSE chemistry against a mark scheme, and competence across both at once is less common than willingness. The better arrangement in an Abu Dhabi household is two specialists in consecutive slots on the same evening, which costs no extra organising online because there is no second journey. You get one point of contact for scheduling and separate session notes, so one child's progress is not blurred into the other's.

How do sessions change during Ramadan?+

They move, and it is worth agreeing the pattern several weeks ahead rather than in the first week. School hours shorten, concentration shifts through the day, and many Abu Dhabi families prefer sessions after Iftar. Online slots absorb that more easily than visits, because there is no journey to recalculate at either end and a tutor teaching late is not then driving home. We also recommend reducing frequency rather than cancelling entirely: one session a week kept in place is easier to restart than a month-long gap, particularly for a Year 11 or DP2 student.

Will the tutor mark past papers, or only teach in the session?+

Marking between sessions is the part that moves marks, so it should be in the arrangement explicitly. The pattern here is that the student photographs or scans their attempt and sends it before the lesson, the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme, and the annotated script is shared on screen and talked through during the session. The file stays with the family and feeds revision later. Ask any prospective tutor, in-home or online, what they set between sessions and who marks it. A tutor who only teaches during the hour is selling half the service.

What does a free trial actually include, and is there a catch?+

One full session at no cost, with no card required and no package purchase beforehand. It runs on real questions from your child's own specification rather than a generic assessment, and it ends with a written diagnostic naming the two or three things costing the most marks. That note is yours whether or not you continue. The only condition is that it is one session per student, not an open-ended run of free lessons. If the tutor match feels wrong, say so and we will either match again or tell you honestly that we cannot cover the subject properly.

Can a tutor help with my child's Internal Assessment or Extended Essay?+

Within clear limits, yes. A tutor can teach the assessment criteria and their mark allocations, question whether a research question is answerable with the available data, challenge the reasoning and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor cannot supply text, rewrite sections to completion or hand over a finished investigation. The supervising teacher authenticates the work, and IB academic-honesty rules make the alternative an expulsion risk for the student. One site in this market openly sells completed Internal Assessments, which is worth knowing about before you compare prices.

We only want help for the last ten weeks before the exams. Is that sensible?+

It can be, if the goal is paper skills rather than content. Ten weeks is enough to drill command terms, fix the method-mark discipline that loses marks on work the student can actually do, and run timed papers with strict marking. It is not enough to teach a year of missing content, and a provider that tells you otherwise is selling hope. The useful first step is a diagnostic session that establishes which of those two situations you are in, because the answer changes whether the ten weeks are well spent or simply expensive.

What should I send when asking several providers for a quote?+

Five things, and the same five to everyone: the board and syllabus code, the tier or level, the year group, the next assessment date, and a photograph of one recent piece of marked work. Then ask each provider for the hourly rate, the minimum session length, what is set and marked between sessions, and the cancellation terms. Quotes become comparable the moment session length and inclusions are fixed; without them, an AED 200 hour and an AED 350 hour may be the same thing or entirely different things, and you cannot tell from the number.

What personal information do you need about my child to match a tutor?+

Year group, subject, board and level, the next assessment date and a parent's contact details. That is enough. We do not ask for a photograph, a full report card, a date of birth or a school's internal assessment data, because none of those are needed to decide who can teach a specification on a Tuesday evening. Marked work sent for a session is used for teaching and removed on request when an engagement ends. The UAE's Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on personal data protection is the governing framework, and the privacy link sits on every page.

Do you have an office in Abu Dhabi we can visit?+

No, and any provider implying a local presence it does not have is worth a second look. IB Gram operates no office, centre or branch anywhere in the UAE, holds no regulator approval, accreditation or licence, and delivers to Abu Dhabi families online. Two competing pages in this market route UAE parents to non-UAE phone numbers, and one displays a Dubai address on a page written for Abu Dhabi. Asking a provider directly where it is based, and who employs the tutor who will teach your child, is a reasonable question with a short answer.

Decide the format on supply, not on habit

If you are hiring an IB IGCSE home tutor in Abu Dhabi, the decision worth making carefully is not online against in-home in the abstract. It is whether the person who can actually teach your child's specification is reachable within a twenty-minute drive of your community. For Year 9 maths they often are. For Extended-tier chemistry, both Diploma mathematics routes or Higher Level sciences, they usually are not, and that is the gap online matching closes. Send the syllabus code, the tier, the next assessment date and one piece of marked work, and the first session is a free trial that ends with a written diagnostic you keep.
