IB IGCSE Home Tuition in Abu Dhabi

The price of IB IGCSE home tuition in Abu Dhabi is quoted as a single hourly figure and almost never behaves like one. Session length, minimum bookings, who marks the work between lessons, the subject's scarcity and the month of the year all move it, sometimes by more than the headline rate differs between providers. This page publishes the AED bands for this market with each source named and dated, explains which variables actually change your bill, and shows how to make three quotes comparable. Lessons here run online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every AED band attributed to the provider or survey it came from
  • Session length and inclusions separated from the headline hourly rate
  • Cost modelled across a term and a two-year plan, not just per hour
  • First session free, no card, no package purchase beforehand

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

Why one hourly rate tells you almost nothing

Ask three Abu Dhabi providers what tuition costs and you will get three numbers that cannot be compared. One quotes AED 200 for a 45-minute session with nothing set between lessons. One quotes AED 280 for a full hour with a marked past paper each week. One quotes AED 350 but insists on a two-hour minimum, so the real weekly figure is AED 700. The cheapest hourly rate in that list is the most expensive arrangement per mark gained, and nothing on any of the three websites would tell you that.

The published bands for this market are worth having in front of you. Budget online tuition, typically delivered by university students, runs from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with one platform listing from AED 45 to 65 and another from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit between about AED 150 and 300, with one agency publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one visits run roughly AED 180 to 350 in one survey, with independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutoring is quoted between AED 200 and 450 and above, including one UK agency at AED 270. Premium named provision reaches AED 650. Every one of those figures belongs to somebody else and was read in October 2026.

Monthly figures behave the same way. One provider in this market advertises about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, while in-home monthly packages of four two-hour sessions have been listed between AED 1,599 and AED 1,799. A separate cost survey estimates monthly spend for one weekly hour at AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. Three of the six competing pages examined for this market publish no price at all, and two of the rest quote in US dollars.

What this page does is separate the headline rate from the things that actually determine your bill: the level being taught, the scarcity of the specification, whether marking happens between sessions, the minimum booking, and the month in the academic year. Those five variables explain most of the spread above. They also explain why two families in Al Raha Beach paying the same hourly rate can end a term having spent very different amounts and received very different amounts of teaching.

One point on delivery, because it changes the cost structure directly. Tuition for Abu Dhabi families is delivered online, one to one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, and does not operate a centre anywhere in the UAE; home visits exist only in our India service. An in-home rate carries a vehicle and most of an hour's driving in the late-afternoon traffic, which is the main structural reason the in-home band sits above the online one in every survey read for this page.

At a glance

  • Compare cost per week with session length and inclusions fixed, not cost per hour
  • Marking between sessions is where marks move; a rate that excludes it is a cheaper, smaller service
  • Scarce specifications cost more because the pool who can teach them is small, not because the subject is harder
  • Examination-year demand peaks between October and February in Abu Dhabi, and that peak reaches prices
  • Ask whether a quoted AED figure includes VAT; a provider should answer about its own pricing without hedging
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost tracks level and scarcity more than it tracks subject. The three programmes below are described by what drives their price in this emirate and how many hours families typically commit to each.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The widest supply and therefore the most competitive pricing of any level here. Core-tier support sits at the lower end of the qualified-tutor band; Extended-tier science and mathematics taught against the published mark scheme sits higher, because the pool who do it well is smaller. Two subjects at one hour each is the most common Abu Dhabi commitment through Year 11.

The price pattern across an Abu Dhabi IGCSE year is predictable. Enquiries are cheap and easy to fill in September and October. From January, when mock results land and the examination series is close, specialist availability narrows and families end up paying for whoever is free rather than choosing. Booking the specialist in the autumn and reducing frequency later costs less across the year than the reverse.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

The most expensive level in every published band, and the one where scarcity dominates. Higher Level sciences and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches carry the premium, and coursework supervision blocks are usually bought as a fixed number of sessions rather than a weekly slot. A two-year plan for one Higher Level subject is a serious budget line and should be planned as one.

Abu Dhabi Diploma demand is sharply seasonal because school internal deadlines for Internal Assessments cluster between October and February. That is when specialist capacity is thinnest across the emirate and when a family that waits pays most, in money and in choice. Families on Saadiyat Island and Al Reem Island who plan the coursework block in September routinely pay less than those who call in January.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The cheapest level to support and the easiest to over-buy. With no external paper before the optional MYP 5 eAssessment, weekly year-round tuition rarely earns its cost. A short block aimed at manipulation fluency and extended-writing stamina, taken before the Diploma begins, does more for the money than a standing weekly slot through three middle years.

Abu Dhabi families often start tuition earlier than the assessment requires, which is understandable and expensive. The useful spending pattern in the middle years is diagnostic: a block of sessions, a written assessment of what is genuinely behind, then a gap. Holding budget for the Diploma years, when the hourly bands are highest and the supply tightest, is the better use of the same money.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Price varies more by scarcity than by difficulty. Each subject below carries a note on where it sits in the market band and why, which is the part no competing page in this market publishes.

Mathematics (Cambridge IGCSE 0580)

Core and Extended

The most competitively priced request in the emirate, because supply is deep. Core-tier support sits at the lower end of the qualified-tutor band. Extended-tier work, including the non-calculator manipulation drilling, is priced slightly higher but remains the easiest specialist slot to fill at short notice.

Chemistry (Cambridge IGCSE 0620)

Core and Extended

Mid-band at Core tier and noticeably higher for Extended-tier teaching that works to the mark scheme on mole calculations and organic chemistry. Demand concentrates in the eight weeks before mocks, which is also when the band tightens and choice narrows.

Physics (Pearson Edexcel 4PH1)

International GCSE

Priced above Cambridge 0625 support in practice, simply because fewer tutors in this market have taught the Pearson specification recently. Paying a Cambridge-trained tutor to learn 4PH1 on your time is the most common hidden cost in physics tuition here.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

IB HL and SL

At the top of the specialist band at Higher Level, driven by Paper 3 and the extended investigations that paper carries. Standard Level sits lower. This is the subject where families most often buy a long plan, and where planning the hours across two years saves the most.

Chemistry (IB DP)

HL and SL

The scarcest common request in Abu Dhabi and consistently at the upper end of published specialist bands. The scientific investigation component, worth a fifth of the grade, is usually bought as a supervision block rather than as weekly hours, which changes the shape of the cost.

Physics (IB DP)

HL and SL

Upper band at Higher Level. The honest cost note is that much of the early work is mathematical rather than physical, so a family paying physics-specialist rates for algebra rehabilitation is overpaying for the wrong hour. A diagnostic should establish which it is before a plan is bought.

Economics (IB DP)

HL and SL

Mid to upper band, with the internal assessment commentaries typically handled as a short supervision block. Higher Level quantitative content adds to the hours. Evaluation-question technique is the highest-value teaching per hour in this subject and is often skipped in favour of content revision.

English Language and Literature

IGCSE and IB DP

Among the better-supplied subjects, so mid-band pricing with reasonable availability even late in the year. Value concentrates in marked written work between sessions rather than in the session itself, which makes the inclusions question more important here than the hourly rate.

Arabic (first and additional language)

IGCSE and IB DP

Competitively priced and well supplied locally at school level, because the subject is mandated alongside the licensed international curriculum under federal rules. First-language Diploma routes are a separate, scarcer market and should not be priced from an additional-language quote.

Business Studies and Computer Science

IGCSE and IB DP

Mid-band at IGCSE and thinner at Higher Level, where pricing reflects scarcity. In Computer Science specifically, families often pay developer rates for somebody who has never marked the written paper, which is the clearest mismatch of price to need in this market.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, all delivered over live video, each with a different cost shape. The right one depends on how certain you are about the problem, not on which looks cheapest per hour.

Pay per session, no commitment

The most expensive per hour in most price lists and the cheapest way to find out whether tuition is the right answer at all. Sensible for a first block of four to six sessions while the problem is still being diagnosed, and for families who cannot predict term-time travel.

  • No package purchased before a trial
  • Cancel or pause without forfeiting unused sessions
  • Suits a diagnostic block or an uncertain term
  • Costs more per hour than a committed plan in most price lists

Fixed weekly slot across a term

The format that earns its cost when the target is a grade shift rather than a rescue, because it allows work to be set, marked and revisited. Costs less per hour than ad-hoc booking almost everywhere, in exchange for a predictable weekly commitment.

  • Same tutor, same slot, reviewed each half term
  • Work set and marked between lessons as standard
  • Pauses available for the school's own assessment weeks
  • Predictable monthly figure for budgeting

Fixed-scope coursework block

A defined number of sessions attached to one piece of work: an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay plan, or a Theory of Knowledge essay. Priced as a block rather than a weekly rate, because the work has a deadline rather than a term.

  • Scope and session count agreed before it starts
  • Criteria taught by letter with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on the student's own draft; no text supplied
  • Best booked in September, when capacity exists

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What home tuition costs in Abu Dhabi, by level and format

The table below is the thing this market does not publish. Of six competing pages examined for this cluster, three quote no price at all, two quote in US dollars, and one of its own frequently-asked questions asks what tuition costs and declines to answer. Publishing a band with its source attached is therefore not a competitive claim, it is simply the first useful answer a parent gets.

Read it as a market map rather than a price list. None of these figures is IB Gram's price. Each band is drawn from named providers' published rates and from a published cost survey for this market, all read in October 2026, and all of them will drift. What the bands are good for is sanity-checking a quote: if somebody offers Higher Level Diploma Chemistry at the budget end of the range, something in the arrangement is not what you think it is, and if somebody quotes well above the specialist band, the question to ask is what the extra buys.

Two columns deserve explanation. The small-group column is a per-student figure, which is why it looks dramatically cheaper and why it is not comparable to one-to-one for a student with a specific gap: a group moves at the group's pace. The indicative monthly column assumes one session a week over four weeks, which is how most Abu Dhabi families actually buy, and it is the number worth putting in a household budget rather than the hourly rate.

The last row is the one families underestimate. Coursework supervision for an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay is bought by the block, not by the term, and the block lands in the same autumn and winter weeks for almost every school in the emirate. That concentration is why September booking costs less than January booking for identical work.

02

The five variables that actually move your bill

  • Scarcity of the specification, not difficulty of the subject, sets the premium
  • Marking between sessions is the single biggest difference between two identical-looking hours
  • A two-hour minimum doubles the weekly figure before any rate comparison happens
  • Autumn booking costs less than January booking for the same coursework block
  • Group formats cut cost per student and cut diagnosis; the mix matters more than the choice

Level is the obvious one and the least interesting, because every provider prices it. The four that create the real spread are scarcity, inclusions, minimum booking and timing, and none of them appear on a price page. A parent who understands those four can usually reduce a term's spend without reducing a single hour of teaching, simply by buying differently.

Scarcity first. A specification taught by many people prices competitively; one taught by few does not. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is the deepest pool in this emirate. Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1, Higher Level Diploma Chemistry and Computer Science at Higher Level are the thinnest. The premium on a scarce specification is not a difficulty surcharge, it is supply, which is also why restricting the search to a driving radius raises it further.

Inclusions next, and this is where most value is won or lost. An hour that includes work set and marked against the published mark scheme between sessions is a materially different product from an hour of talking, and the two are quoted as though they were the same. The question to ask is blunt: what will you set, who marks it, and do I get the annotated script. A rate that excludes marking is not cheaper, it is smaller.

Then minimum booking and timing. A two-hour minimum doubles a weekly bill whatever the hourly figure says, and some students cannot concentrate for two hours regardless. Timing matters because Abu Dhabi demand peaks between October and February, when Diploma coursework deadlines cluster and IGCSE mocks land. Specialist capacity is thinnest then, so a family that books in September both pays less and chooses from more people. Those two decisions, session length and month, routinely matter more than which provider you pick.

03

Tuition in context: what else an examination year costs

Tuition is one line in a bigger examination-year budget, and families routinely plan it in isolation. Private school fees in Abu Dhabi are regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate; each school publishes its own approved fee schedule, and no Abu Dhabi fee band is quoted here because no sourced figure for this page was verified. Check the school's own published schedule rather than any third-party summary, including this one.

For contrast, Dubai's regulator confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in that emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That is a Dubai measure and says nothing about Abu Dhabi fees, but it is a useful reminder that school fee policy is set emirate by emirate and changes year by year, which is why a tuition budget built on last year's assumptions drifts.

The examination entry line is the one most often forgotten entirely. Entry fees are charged by the centre, differ between Cambridge and Pearson, and rise sharply for private candidates sitting outside a school. If a student is retaking a subject or sitting one the school does not offer, that is a separate and non-trivial cost which has to be budgeted alongside the tuition hours, and the centre is the only reliable source for the figure.

The table below puts the tutoring lines next to each other over a realistic period, using the market bands from the section above. The purpose is not precision, it is sequencing: seeing a two-year Higher Level plan and a four-session coursework block in the same list usually changes how a family allocates the money, and almost always moves spending earlier in the year.

Hourly, package or block - which model fits which problem

The pricing model matters as much as the price. Pay-as-you-go costs the most per hour and the least in total when the problem is undiagnosed, because you stop as soon as you know. A term-long weekly slot costs less per hour and more in total, and earns that only if the target genuinely needs months. A fixed-scope block is the right shape when the work has a deadline rather than a duration, which is exactly what coursework is.

The risk in a package is forfeiture. A monthly or termly package bought up front converts your flexibility into the provider's revenue certainty, and the question that reveals how fair it is has nothing to do with the discount: what happens to unused sessions, and what notice does a cancellation need. A package with a generous rate and no carry-over can cost more than ad-hoc booking across a term with two school trips and an examination fortnight in it.

There is a particular pattern worth naming. A family is offered a substantial discount for buying a term in advance, before any trial session has happened and before anybody has diagnosed anything. That is a commitment bought with a price cut, and in a market where a free trial is available it is unnecessary. The sequence that protects a budget is trial, diagnostic, short block, then a longer plan if the evidence supports one.

Our own structure is deliberately plain. Nothing is charged before a free trial session, no package purchase is required to start, and sessions pause during the school's own assessment weeks when a student needs revision time rather than new input. We publish no discount ladder, because a discount that depends on committing before diagnosis is a pricing tactic rather than a saving.

How many hours a realistic plan needs

Families ask how many sessions it takes, and the honest answer begins with a question back: how many weeks remain, and is the problem content or technique. Those two facts determine almost everything. A technique problem in a student who knows the content can be moved substantially in six to ten weeks of marked timed practice. A content problem spanning a year of missed teaching cannot be closed in the same window at one hour a week, and any provider suggesting otherwise is selling reassurance.

No provider can promise a grade, including this one. Marking is done by the board, boundaries move between series, and a student's own work between sessions accounts for more of the outcome than the session does. What can be described honestly is what families typically book for a given situation and what has to happen outside the hour for it to be worth buying. That is the shape of the table below.

The variable most often underestimated is independent work. Beyond about two hours a week in one subject, the constraint stops being teaching time and becomes practice time: a student not completing marked work between sessions will not convert a third hour into marks, and the money is better held for the following term. This is also why adding subjects usually beats adding hours once the second hour is in place.

The variable most often overestimated is the exam-term intensive. Ten weeks of concentrated work before a series is genuinely useful for paper technique and genuinely limited for content. The best value in an Abu Dhabi examination year, repeatedly, is one hour a week from October with marked work between sessions, plus a short intensive at the end, rather than nothing until February followed by a panic block at specialist rates.

The extras that make a cheap hourly rate expensive

The hourly figure is the part providers compete on, so it is the part that gets squeezed, and the money reappears elsewhere. The commonest mechanisms are a short session sold as an hour, a minimum booking, materials charged separately, a cancellation window that forfeits the session, and travel added for a visit. None of these is dishonest. All of them are invisible in a rate comparison.

Session length is first because it is the easiest to miss. A 45-minute session quoted at AED 200 is AED 267 an hour; a 50-minute session at AED 240 is AED 288. Both read as cheaper than a 60-minute hour at AED 280 and neither is. Ask for the session length in minutes before comparing anything, and ask whether the quoted figure is per session or per hour, because providers use both.

Materials are the second. Board syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are published on the boards' own sites and are the boards' copyright; they should be referenced and linked rather than resold or redistributed as downloads. A provider charging a materials fee for board content is charging for something freely readable at source, and a provider distributing it as a download pack has a copyright problem rather than a product.

On tax, we will say only what we can stand behind. Ask any provider directly whether its quoted AED prices include VAT and get the answer in writing. We do not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees on this page, because that is a Federal Tax Authority matter and we have no citation to publish. Similarly, the free trial is genuinely free, and its one condition is stated plainly: one session per student, no card required, no package purchase.

07

Group classes, and the economics of attention

Per student, a group of four is the cheapest teaching available, and for some purposes it is also the best. Revisiting content the whole group has met, working through a past paper together, drilling command terms: a competent teacher with four students does this efficiently, and the cost per student is a fraction of one-to-one. Dismissing group classes to protect a one-to-one price list would be dishonest arithmetic.

What a group cannot do is diagnose. A student losing marks because their working is disordered and another losing marks because they have never understood moles need different hours, and a group gives them the same one. The pace belongs to the group, which means the student who needs twelve minutes on a step gets four, and the student who needed none sits through all four. That is the real cost, and it does not appear in the price.

The efficient combination in Abu Dhabi, where group availability is decent in the central districts and thin outside them, is usually a group revision class for breadth plus a small number of one-to-one sessions aimed precisely at what the group cannot reach. A family buying three one-to-one hours a week is often buying two hours of content delivery that a group would have handled and one hour of genuine diagnosis.

One caution on comparing group quotes. Ask the group size, not the maximum group size, and ask what happens if the group shrinks to two or grows to eight, because both change the product. Also ask whether the class is matched by specification: a mixed Cambridge and Pearson group in a tiered science subject is teaching two different papers at once, which no amount of competence fully solves.

08

How to make three Abu Dhabi quotes genuinely comparable

The practical skill is normalising. Send every provider the same five facts: the board and syllabus code, the tier or level, the year group, the next assessment date, and a photograph of one recent piece of marked work. Ask every provider the same five questions: session length in minutes, hourly or per-session pricing, what is set and marked between sessions, the minimum booking, and the cancellation and carry-over terms.

Then convert everything to one number: cost per week for the arrangement you would actually buy. A 45-minute session at AED 200 with no marking, twice a week, is AED 400 weekly for 90 minutes of teaching. A single 60-minute session at AED 280 with a marked paper each week is AED 280 weekly for 60 minutes of teaching plus marking. Which is better value depends on your child, but at least the comparison is now between two real things.

Three answers should change your shortlist regardless of price. An offer to write, complete or substantially revise an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay, which is academic malpractice and puts the student's diploma at risk. A claim of regulator or examination-board approval, accreditation or partnership, which no provider in this market should make without showing the permit or centre number. And a published rating or success figure with no stated sample, date or method behind it.

A last practical note. Private tutors in the UAE need a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and asking to see it is routine. It costs nothing to obtain, so there is no financial reason for an established tutor not to hold one. That single question tells you more about a provider's operating standards than any discount on the rate card.

Where we tutor

Communities and what the local tuition market looks like in each

Local supply differs across Abu Dhabi, and where supply is thin, in-home prices rise and choice falls. These notes describe the market in each community rather than the drive time, because price is what this page is about.

Al Rawdah

Central island district close to several long-established schools, with a comparatively deep local tutoring market at IGCSE level. In-home quotes here tend to sit mid-band because the travel component is small.

Al Karamah

Residential and central, with steady IGCSE demand and reasonable local supply. Group revision classes are more available here than in the outer communities, which makes the group-plus-targeted-one-to-one combination practical.

Al Zahiyah

Dense city district with a mixed school-age population and a thin specialist market of its own. Families here usually price online against a drive rather than against a local specialist, because the local specialist often is not there.

Al Falah

Mainland villa community some distance from the island school estate. In-home quotes include a substantial drive and commonly come with a two-hour minimum, which doubles the weekly figure regardless of the hourly rate.

Al Ghadeer

On the emirate boundary towards Dubai, which makes the local tutoring market unusually scattered. Some families here hold quotes from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi providers and find the travel component dominates the difference.

Hydra Village

Outer villa community with limited local supply at Extended tier and almost none at Diploma Higher Level. The practical choice here is an online specialist or a generalist nearby, and the price difference is usually smaller than families expect.

Al Wahda

Central, well connected and with good access to group classes as well as private tutors. One of the few areas where the full range of formats is genuinely available, so comparing cost per week across formats is worthwhile.

Mussafah

Largely industrial with residential pockets and a limited private-tuition market. Quotes for visits here reflect the distance from the island, and online pricing is unaffected by it, which is the clearest illustration of what travel costs.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Central island schools

The emirate's established school estate, where fee levels, examination entry costs and tuition demand are all highest. Students we support here are mostly IGCSE candidates and Diploma students needing coursework supervision blocks.

Al Ain and the eastern region

Also under ADEK's remit, with a smaller private school market and a correspondingly thin local tutoring pool. Families here are frequently choosing between a long drive to Abu Dhabi city and an online specialist, and the cost comparison is rarely close.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send five facts, get a straight answer

Board and syllabus code, tier or level, year group, next assessment date, and one photograph of marked work. With those, a specialist can say what the problem looks like and roughly how many hours it suggests. Without them, any figure quoted to you is a guess dressed as a price.

  2. 02

    Free trial before any payment

One full session at no cost, no card required and no package purchase first. It runs on real questions from your child's own specification and ends with a written diagnostic you keep. The condition is one trial per student, which is stated here rather than discovered at checkout.

  3. 03

Agree the plan in weeks and hours, in writing

After the diagnostic we set out what the first block is aimed at, how many sessions it needs, and what has to happen between lessons for it to work. Short blocks are preferred to long commitments, because a plan that survives evidence is better than one bought on optimism.

  4. 04

Pay as you go, pause for school exams

Sessions are billed as they happen rather than bought in bulk, and they pause during the school's own assessment weeks, when a student needs revision time more than new input. Nothing is forfeited by pausing, which removes the main financial risk in a termly package.

  5. 05

Review the spend on evidence each half term

At each half term we look at marked papers and the error log and ask whether the money is doing work. If it is not, the honest answers are a different tutor, a different format, or stopping, and we will name whichever one the evidence supports rather than proposing another block.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices published with sources attached

Every AED figure here names the provider or survey it came from and the month it was read. Three of the six competing pages examined for this market publish no price at all, and one asks the price question in its own list and declines to answer it. An attributed band is more useful than a confident number with nothing behind it.

Cost per week, not cost per hour

Session length, minimum bookings and marking inclusions are separated out here, because those three move a weekly bill more than the headline rate does. A 45-minute session without marking and a 60-minute session with it are different products at the same apparent price.

No package purchase before a diagnosis

Nothing is charged before a free trial, and no discount is offered for committing before anybody has established what is wrong. Discounts that require a term's payment up front move risk onto the family at exactly the point when the family knows least.

Pause rather than forfeit

Sessions pause for school assessment weeks and family travel without losing value. The forfeiture clause in a termly package is the quiet cost of the lower headline rate, and across an Abu Dhabi school year with its trips and examination fortnights it is rarely a small one.

Scarce specifications stated as scarce

Where a specification has thin specialist supply, you are told the realistic wait or told plainly that we cannot cover it. Being matched at short notice with somebody learning the specification alongside your child is the most expensive hour in this market, whatever it costs.

Figures we cannot stand behind are absent

No success percentages, no star ratings, no student counts, and no VAT ruling. If a number cannot be shown with its sample, date and method, it is not published here. That includes our own: the evidence we offer is the marked work, which you can inspect.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

How much does IB and IGCSE home tuition cost in Abu Dhabi per month?+

For one weekly hour, a published cost survey for this market puts monthly spend at roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. In-home monthly packages of four two-hour visits have been listed at AED 1,599 to 1,799, and one provider advertises about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other companies' figures read in October 2026, not ours. The monthly number is the one worth budgeting; the hourly rate is the one that hides session length.

Why is in-home tuition priced higher than online in every survey?+

Because the rate carries a vehicle and most of an hour's driving. A tutor teaching one hour in an outer Abu Dhabi community and returning spends a substantial part of the late afternoon on the road, unpaid, and the hourly figure has to absorb it. That is also why in-home providers commonly impose a minimum session length or sell monthly packages rather than single hours. The published bands reflect it: in-home one-to-one runs roughly AED 180 to 350 in one survey, with independent tutors advertising AED 200 to 500, against about AED 150 to 300 for qualified online subject tutors.

Is the cheapest hourly rate ever the cheapest arrangement?+

Rarely, and the reason is session length and inclusions. A 45-minute session quoted at AED 200 is AED 267 an hour. Two of them a week is AED 400 for 90 minutes of teaching with nothing set in between. A single 60-minute session at AED 280 that includes a marked past paper each week is cheaper weekly and includes work that moves marks. Convert everything to cost per week for the arrangement you would actually buy, with session length in minutes stated, and the comparison usually inverts the ranking the hourly rates suggested.

Which subjects carry a price premium in this emirate, and why?+

Scarcity rather than difficulty sets it. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 has the deepest local supply and the most competitive pricing. Higher Level Diploma Chemistry, Pearson Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 and Computer Science at Higher Level are the thinnest, and sit at the upper end of published specialist bands. The premium exists because few people teach those specifications to their mark schemes, and restricting the search to a drivable radius makes it worse. If a quote for one of those subjects sits at the budget end of the market, ask directly what specification the tutor last taught.

Should we buy a term package up front for the discount?+

Not before a trial and a diagnostic. A package discount is a price cut in exchange for your flexibility, and its real terms are in two clauses: what happens to unused sessions, and how much notice a cancellation needs. Across an Abu Dhabi school year with trips, examination fortnights and travel, forfeited sessions can cost more than the discount saved. The sequence that protects a budget is a free trial, a short diagnostic block, then a longer plan if the marked evidence supports it. Any discount available only before diagnosis is a commitment device, not a saving.

What does a coursework supervision block cost, and when should we book it?+

It is priced as a block of roughly four to eight sessions within the specialist band rather than as a weekly rate, because the work has a deadline rather than a duration. Book it in September. School internal deadlines for Internal Assessments cluster between October and February across almost every Abu Dhabi school, so specialist capacity is thinnest and choice narrowest exactly when most families call. The same block of work, booked early, costs less and gets a better match. What the tutor does inside it is teach criteria, question method and give feedback on the student's own draft.

How many hours a week is too many in one subject?+

Beyond about two, the limiting factor stops being teaching and becomes independent practice. A student who is not completing marked work between sessions will not convert a third hour into marks, and the money is better held for the next term or spent on a second subject. The exception is a short, deliberate intensive before a series, where additional hours are aimed at timed papers and technique rather than new content. If a provider suggests four hours a week in one subject without asking what the student does between sessions, that is a selling decision rather than a teaching one.

Do your quoted prices in Abu Dhabi include VAT?+

Ask us directly and we will answer about our own pricing in writing. What this page will not do is state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that is a Federal Tax Authority matter and we have no citation to publish, and a tutoring website is the wrong place to learn tax law. The same question is worth putting to every provider you approach, in writing, because a figure quoted without that answer can shift by a noticeable margin at the point of invoicing.

Are group classes worth it for IGCSE revision?+

For breadth, often yes. Per student, a group of four is the cheapest teaching available, and for revisiting content the whole group has met it is efficient. What a group cannot do is diagnose: the pace belongs to the group, so the student who needs twelve minutes on a step gets four. The efficient mix in central Abu Dhabi, where group availability is reasonable, is a group revision class plus a small number of one-to-one sessions on the specific gap. Ask the actual group size, not the maximum, and ask whether the class is matched by board and tier.

What should I ask before paying a deposit to any Abu Dhabi provider?+

Five questions. Session length in minutes. Whether pricing is hourly or per session. What is set and marked between lessons, and whether you receive the annotated script. The minimum booking. And the cancellation, pause and carry-over terms. Then one more that is not about money: does the tutor hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit. It is free and valid for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, so an established tutor without one has made a choice, and that tells you something about the operation.

Can tuition fees here be compared with what the school already charges?+

Only loosely, and the school figure has to come from the school. Private school fees in Abu Dhabi are regulated by ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and each school publishes its own approved schedule. No Abu Dhabi fee band appears on this page because no sourced figure was verified for it. For context on how emirate-level policy moves, Dubai's regulator confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees there would not rise for 2026-27 under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion; that is Dubai, not Abu Dhabi.

Is a budget online tutor at AED 60 an hour a false economy?+

Not always, and it depends entirely on the task. Platforms publishing rates from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour are generally matching university students, which can be perfectly adequate for homework supervision, basic numeracy practice or keeping a middle-years student moving. It is a poor fit for Extended-tier mark-scheme work, Higher Level Diploma teaching or anything involving assessment criteria. The expensive version of this mistake is paying budget rates for twenty sessions that do not touch the actual problem, then paying specialist rates in February anyway.

What happens to the money if we need to pause for school exams or travel?+

Here, nothing: sessions are billed as they happen rather than bought in bulk, and pausing during the school's own assessment weeks is encouraged rather than penalised, because a student in an examination fortnight needs revision time more than new input. Elsewhere, this is the clause worth reading before you pay. A termly package with a lower headline rate and no carry-over can cost more across a year than ad-hoc booking, and the arithmetic turns on how many weeks a family realistically misses.

Do you charge for materials, past papers or mark schemes?+

No, and nor should anybody. Examination board syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are published on the boards' own sites and are the boards' copyright: they should be referenced and linked, not resold or handed out as download packs. A materials fee for board content is a charge for something freely readable at source. What a tutor legitimately adds is the marking, the sequencing and the feedback on the student's own work, and that is what the hourly rate should be buying.

Where does tuition money do the most work across an IGCSE year?+

Early, and with marking attached. One hour a week from October, with a timed paper set and marked against the published scheme between sessions, consistently does more than nothing until February followed by an intensive block at peak rates. The second best use is sequencing: book the scarce specification first, because supply narrows from January, and leave the well-supplied subjects for later in the year when tutors are still available. The least effective pattern is three weekly hours in one subject with no independent practice between them.

Normalise the quotes before you choose

If you are pricing IB IGCSE home tuition in Abu Dhabi, the useful work takes about twenty minutes: send every provider the same five facts, ask every provider the same five questions, and convert each answer to cost per week for the arrangement you would actually buy. The published market bands on this page give you a sanity check, with each source named and dated. Then take the free trial, read the written diagnostic, and decide. Lessons here are online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, billed as they happen, and paused rather than forfeited when the school's own examination weeks arrive.
