IB DP Math AA SL Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Most families comparing an IB DP Math AA SL tutor in Abu Dhabi are trying to work out one number and cannot find it published anywhere. This page gives the market bands in AED with their sources, names the six variables that move a quote up or down in this emirate, prices a two-year Standard Level plan, and says what an hour should contain before it is worth paying for. Sessions are one to one, online, over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • Market AED bands published with the source and the month read
  • Six named variables that move an Abu Dhabi quote, with direction
  • A two-year Standard Level plan costed, not estimated vaguely
  • Online one to one; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The number nobody publishes, and the six things that move it

Three of the six best-ranked tutoring pages for UAE searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. One of them even asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. That is the state of the market a family in Abu Dhabi is trying to compare, which is why this page leads with figures rather than with description. Everything quoted below was published by a provider or a rate tracker and read in October 2026, and every band is the market rather than an IB Gram price list.

The headline picture is this. Budget online provision, usually a university student or a generalist, advertises from roughly AED 33 to 150 an hour. A qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300. In-home one-to-one work, with travel inside the rate, runs about AED 180 to 500. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level provision is published around AED 200 to 450 and above, and premium named or examiner-branded provision has been advertised as high as AED 650. Monthly figures published for weekly one-hour sessions run from about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

Those bands are wide because the product inside them varies enormously, and a parent comparing two quotes at AED 220 is often comparing two completely different hours. So the second half of this page is about what the hour has to contain for Standard Level Analysis and Approaches specifically: a marked script read for method and accuracy losses, unlabelled mixed practice rather than topic drills, and exploration work timed early enough to still change the topic. An hour that contains none of those is not cheap at AED 150.

Abu Dhabi changes the arithmetic in two ways. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings, and the Diploma population is spread across the island, the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor and the newer mainland communities, so the in-home market here prices distance heavily. And many schools run one Standard Level maths class per year group, which means a student who slips has no second set inside school and the external hour carries more weight than it would in a larger cohort.

IB Gram delivers to Abu Dhabi families one to one and online, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visits are a service we run only in India. We also do not publish our own hourly figure here and present it as the market rate, because a provider quoting itself is not research. The commercial answer is a first session at no charge, one per student, which produces a written diagnosis you can take to any provider you like.

At a glance

  • Standard Level DP mathematics is a 150-hour course; Higher Level is 240
  • AA SL is assessed by two written papers plus the mathematical exploration
  • Paper 1 is sat without a calculator; Paper 2 assumes a graphical calculator
  • Every AED figure here is a published market band with its source and month
  • Lessons are online one to one; no tutor attends an Abu Dhabi address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which course your child sits, and when in the two years you start, change the quote more than any other factor. Here is how each route prices.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

A 150-hour Standard Level course covering number and algebra, functions, geometry and trigonometry, statistics and probability, and calculus, assessed by two written papers plus the mathematical exploration. Paper 1 is sat without a calculator and Paper 2 with a graphical calculator. Confirm the current mark allocations and weightings against the subject guide through your school's IB coordinator.

In Abu Dhabi, Standard Level support generally prices in the middle of the published bands rather than at the specialist end, because the pool of tutors who can teach it competently is larger than the Higher Level pool. The quote hardens from January, when DP2 families across the emirate start at the same time and the better evening slots fill first.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL

The 240-hour Higher Level version, with three written papers including the extended problem-solving Paper 3, plus substantial additional content such as proof by induction, complex numbers and differential equations. The tutor pool is materially smaller, which is what pushes Higher Level quotes towards the specialist band.

Relevant to a Standard Level family for one reason: if a move up or down the levels is under discussion, the cost of support changes with it. Ask the Diploma coordinator about the timetable mechanics before pricing anything, because in a small Abu Dhabi cohort the decision can turn on whether both classes run in the same slot.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL

The other Standard Level route, weighted towards modelling, statistics and technology rather than algebraic proof. It is priced the same as Analysis and Approaches SL across the published bands, but the tutor has to have taught it, because the two courses diverge enough that generic maths support fits neither well.

Families sometimes hope a course switch will remove the need to pay for tuition. It usually does not, because the gap being addressed is rarely course-specific: unlabelled question selection and accurate written working carry marks in both. Choose the course on degree requirements and on the student, not on an expected saving.

MYPAges 14-16 · before DP1

Arriving from MYP or IGCSE mathematics

The two routes in. IGCSE builds procedural fluency on structured questions; MYP builds conceptual understanding against criteria. Standard Level assumes algebraic reliability from the first term, so a student arriving from either route may need six weeks on fluency before any Diploma content is worth teaching.

This is the cheapest moment in the whole two years to buy support, and almost nobody does. Four to six sessions in the summer before DP1, spent on algebraic fluency and unlabelled practice, cost a fraction of the same work bought in the February of DP2, when rates are at their firmest and the available improvement is smaller.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the parts of AA SL that generate most tutoring requests in Abu Dhabi, described by what an hour on each realistically returns.

Algebraic fluency

Underpins everything

Manipulating expressions, solving equations and rearranging without a calculator. The cheapest possible investment, because every other topic depends on it and because it improves with short daily practice rather than with paid hours.

Functions and graphs

SL core

Composite and inverse functions, transformations, quadratics and exponentials. High return per hour, since SL questions frequently combine a transformation with a small calculus demand and students who learn each separately cannot answer the combination.

Differentiation

SL core

Rules of differentiation, tangents and normals, stationary points and optimisation. The usual loss is the chain rule applied to the outer function only, and the second is a stationary point found and never classified when the question asked for a justification.

Integration

SL core

Definite and indefinite integration, areas, and basic substitution. Reliably worth paid hours because the errors are systematic: the missing constant, the limits left unchanged, and the area taken as the integral when part of the curve is below the axis.

Trigonometry

SL core

Identities, equations, the unit circle and triangle rules. Marks go missing on solution ranges rather than on method, which makes this a topic where one session on reading the domain can return several marks on a paper.

Sequences, series and exponentials

SL core

Arithmetic and geometric progressions, sums, compound growth and logarithms. Mostly procedural, so it responds well to drilling, and it is a sensible candidate for self-study with a problem set rather than for paid teaching time.

Statistics and probability

SL core

Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, probability and the normal distribution. Students often have the calculator technique and not the interpretation, which is where the marks sit, and interpretation is quick to teach.

Paper 1 technique without a calculator

Assessment

Exact values, surds, fractions and logarithms, with no decimal escape route. Worth separating from Paper 2 practice entirely, because the habits are different and a student who only practises with a calculator is unprepared for half the written assessment.

Paper 2 technique with a graphical calculator

Assessment

Numerical solving, intersections, turning points and distributions, plus the judgement to know when the calculator is faster. Also where accuracy marks are lost to premature rounding, which is a one-session repair followed by a month of habit.

The mathematical exploration

Internal assessment, 20 marks

Marked against five criteria: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. The hours are worth most when spent early on topic choice, because a topic that cannot carry Standard Level mathematics cannot be rescued by polishing.

Command terms and written working

Both papers

Show that, hence, justify and determine are instructions with marks attached, and IB mark schemes award method, accuracy and reasoning separately. The highest marks-per-hour work available in this course, and the work most tutoring skips.

Unlabelled mixed practice

Both papers

Problem sets with no topic heading, which is the only way the skill of selecting a method improves. Cheap to supply and rarely supplied, because it is harder to teach from than a topic worksheet.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, compared on cost per mark rather than cost per hour. IB Gram delivers the second of them; the first is a market we do not operate in.

In-home visit from an independent tutor

Published UAE in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions advertised between AED 1,599 and 1,799. The premium is travel. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE.

  • Highest published hourly band of the three formats
  • Smallest pool: whoever will drive to your community at your hour
  • Paid minutes lost to access, parking and traffic at both ends
  • A wrong match is expensive to replace inside the same radius

One-to-one online, which is what we deliver

Qualified online subject tutors are published across UAE providers at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and specialist IB provision around AED 200 to 450 and above. A screen share puts the marked script, the working and the question in front of both people at once.

  • Tutor chosen for having taught the course, not for postcode
  • Full agreed slot spent teaching, with no travel loss
  • Annotated work and the next problem set arrive in writing
  • A different tutor can be proposed without restarting a search

Small group or centre class

The cheapest per hour, with online monthly packages of eight sessions advertised from around AED 799. Reasonable for content coverage in a procedural topic, weaker where the student needs their own working read line by line, which is where most Standard Level marks are lost.

  • Lowest cost per hour of the three options
  • Marking attention per student is the binding constraint
  • Pace set by the group, not by your child's weakest topic
  • Centres with Abu Dhabi premises are licensed separately

01

The six variables that move an AA SL quote in Abu Dhabi

A quote is not a single number with noise around it. It is six decisions, most of which the family controls. Level is the first: Standard Level support prices below Higher Level because the tutor pool is larger. Timing in the academic year is the second and is routinely underestimated, because demand across the emirate arrives in January and the better evening slots are gone before the rates soften again. Session length is the third, with ninety-minute slots usually priced below two separate sixty-minute ones for the same total time.

The fourth is tutor tier, which is where the published bands separate most sharply, from budget generalist provision at the bottom to premium named or examiner-branded provision above AED 650. The fifth is delivery mode: in-home work carries a travel premium that in the outer Abu Dhabi communities is substantial, and small group or centre classes sit below one-to-one at the cost of individual marking attention. The sixth is commitment shape, where monthly packages are advertised at a discount to the hourly figure and also reduce your ability to stop.

Two of those six are worth optimising and four are worth understanding. Start earlier in the year and buy a longer single slot, and the same tutoring costs less and arrives in a better hour. Pay attention to tier only after establishing what the hour contains, because a specialist rate for an hour spent re-explaining topics the student already knows returns nothing. And be wary of optimising delivery mode towards in-home for a subject where the examined skill is written working that both people need to read at once.

Why Standard Level costs less than Higher Level, and when that is a false economy

The honest reason Standard Level support is cheaper is supply. A 150-hour course with two papers and no Paper 3 can be taught well by a much larger group of people than a 240-hour course with extended problem solving and substantial additional content. That is a real difference in scarcity, and it shows up in the published bands as a gap between qualified-tutor rates and specialist rates rather than as a difference in the quality of the teaching your child receives.

Where it becomes a false economy is in the exploration and in Paper 1. The exploration is marked against the same five criteria at both levels and carries the same twenty marks, and the criterion about using mathematics commensurate with the course level is judged against Standard Level rather than ignored. A cheap hour that treats the exploration as a write-up exercise rather than as a mathematics problem costs marks that are expensive to recover later, because a topic chosen badly in DP1 cannot be fixed in DP2.

Paper 1 is the other place where the cheapest hour underperforms. A tutor who teaches every topic with a calculator in hand is preparing a student for half of the written assessment. Exact values, surds and logarithmic manipulation need separate, deliberate, non-calculator practice, and a generalist maths tutor working from a textbook will often not separate them. That is worth asking about explicitly before comparing two quotes, because it is the difference between two hours that look identical on an invoice.

What an AA SL hour has to contain to be worth the money

  • A marked script sorted into content, selection and communication losses
  • A mixed, unlabelled problem set every week, reviewed before new teaching
  • Non-calculator Paper 1 work kept separate from calculator work
  • Command terms and mark types taught explicitly, with marks named
  • Exploration topic tested for mathematical depth in DP1, not DP2

Three things, and if an hour contains none of them the rate is irrelevant. The first is a marked script read line by line, with lost marks sorted into mathematics the student did not know, mathematics they could not select, and mathematics they did correctly and were not paid for because the working, the rounding or the justification fell short. That sorting is a fifteen-minute job for someone who has taught the course and it determines everything else.

The second is unlabelled practice. A worksheet headed Integration teaches integration; a mixed set with no headings teaches a student to recognise what a question is asking for, which is the skill that fails on an unseen paper. Almost no tutoring supplies this, because it is harder to teach from, and it is the cheapest thing a parent can insist on. Ask for the between-session set to be mixed and unlabelled, and ask the tutor what the student got wrong in last week's set before this week's session starts.

The third is specific exam-writing repair. Command terms with marks attached, method marks shown rather than implied, full precision carried and rounded once at the end, exact form supplied where the question demanded it. This is the highest marks-per-hour work in the whole course and it needs no new mathematics, which is why it belongs in the first month rather than in the fortnight before a mock. An hour spent re-explaining a topic the student already understands is the single most common way tutoring money is wasted in this market.

04

The cheapest fixes in AA SL, ranked by marks per AED

  • Fix premature rounding first; it recurs on every calculator paper
  • Then the missing justification where a command term demanded it
  • Then solution ranges in trigonometry and the constant of integration
  • Content teaching is correct but costs more marks per hour
  • Any genuinely unmet topic jumps the queue immediately

At the top of the list is premature rounding. Unless a question says otherwise, a final answer is expected to three significant figures, and a value rounded mid-calculation and carried forward produces a final answer wrong in the third figure, with the accuracy mark lost and the method marks intact. One session establishes the habit of storing values and rounding once; a month makes it automatic. It costs one hour and recurs on every calculator paper the student ever sits.

Second is the unclassified stationary point and its relatives: the answer found and the justification never written, where the command term asked for one. Third is the unread domain in trigonometry, where correct solutions fall outside the range the question specified. Fourth is the missing constant of integration and the unchanged limits after a substitution. All four are mechanical, all four are systematic rather than careless, and together they typically account for more lost marks on a Standard Level script than any single content topic.

Content teaching sits further down the list, not because it does not matter but because it costs more per mark. A topic takes two to four sessions to secure properly, and it returns marks only on the questions that use it. The exception is any topic the student has genuinely never met, which happens in small Abu Dhabi cohorts when a fortnight is lost to travel or illness, and which should be addressed immediately rather than revisited in the revision term.

05

A two-year Standard Level plan, priced in context

Families usually ask for an hourly rate and need an annual figure. The table below builds one from the published bands rather than from our own pricing, so it can be used to assess any provider in Abu Dhabi, including us. It assumes a mid-tier qualified online tutor, one weekly session through the two years with a denser block before each exam period, plus a small number of sessions bought specifically for the exploration in DP1.

Two points of context. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi, and school fee policy sits with the regulator rather than with the schools alone, so check ADEK's own published announcements for the current position rather than a tutoring page's summary. For comparison, in Dubai KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, which is the kind of statement worth looking for from your own emirate's regulator before committing to a two-year tutoring budget.

The sequencing conclusion is the useful part. Front-load. The hours bought in the summer before DP1 and in the first term are cheaper, better attended and more useful than the same hours bought in the February of DP2, when published rates are at their firmest and the available improvement is smallest. A family that spends a modest amount early and reviews on evidence almost always spends less in total than one that waits for a mock to raise the alarm.

06

The exploration: twenty marks you cannot buy

The mathematical exploration carries twenty marks against five criteria covering presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. It is the part of the course where money is most often spent badly, because families buy hours late, on polishing, when the marks were decided earlier by the choice of topic. A topic that cannot carry Standard Level mathematics cannot be rescued by a tidy write-up, and no amount of paid time changes that.

What paid time does well is test a topic early. Two or three sessions in DP1, spent asking whether a proposed idea can generate mathematics at the level of the course, whether the student can obtain or construct the data it needs, and what the reflection criterion would actually have to evaluate, is the best value available in the whole two years. Families who buy those sessions at the right moment frequently need fewer later, which is the opposite of how tutoring is usually sold.

The boundary is firm and stated rather than implied. A tutor may teach the mathematics, question the student's reasoning, explain what each criterion rewards, demonstrate a technique on different material, and give feedback on a draft the student has already produced. A tutor may not supply content for submission or rewrite a draft on the student's behalf. Everything submitted is the student's own, and in a market where at least one operator sells completed assessed work outright, that difference is worth paying attention to, because the student is the person the IB would penalise.

07

ADEK, permits, and verifying what you are paying for

  • Ask the tutor directly about the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • Ask whether the AED figure quoted is inclusive or exclusive of tax, in writing
  • Treat any claim of ADEK or IB approval as a reason to ask questions
  • Avoid any arrangement involving your child's own class teacher
  • No fine amounts are published; ignore figures quoted on tutoring sites

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings, which is useful for judging a school and tells you nothing about an individual tutor. No tutoring provider in Abu Dhabi holds an ADEK endorsement for tutoring, and any page claiming regulator approval is making a claim worth checking rather than trusting.

What does apply to the person teaching your child is the permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through MoHRE's private tutor licensing service via its smart app, website and e-services system with a stated two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so disregard any amount you see quoted.

One arrangement to avoid regardless of price. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE permit, whose code of conduct also addresses serving students affiliated with their own school. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK policy document, but treat the underlying point as settled: the person marking the school assessment should not also be paid to prepare your child for it.

08

When to start paying, when to pause, and when to stop

Start before the problem is urgent, because every variable moves against you later: rates harden, slots narrow, and the fixes that work in eight weeks need eight weeks to work in. The summer before DP1 and the first term of DP1 are the two cheapest, most productive windows in the two years, and they are the two windows families almost never use because nothing has gone wrong yet.

Pause during school assessment weeks, mock windows and the heaviest exploration deadline weeks. A Diploma student in those weeks has no spare capacity, and a session added to a full week produces nothing but a sense of having tried. The better use of a paid hour in such a week is reading the student's own marked assessment, which is the most informative document available and usually goes unexamined. Ramadan is handled the same way, with sessions moved to post-Iftar timing by prior agreement rather than improvised.

Stop when eight weeks of evidence shows nothing moving. The evidence is specific: marks on the last three assessments, the proportion of lost marks that are communication rather than content, and whether unlabelled problem sets are being completed. If all three are flat and the documents exist, the answer is a different tutor, a different subject for the slot, or no tutoring at all, and the last of those is sometimes correct. A provider who cannot describe the conditions under which they would recommend stopping has told you what their renewal conversation will sound like.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities and what they do to a quote

Delivery is online, so none of these areas changes the tutor or the rate we work with. They do change what an in-home quote would cost you, and what hour is realistic in term time.

Al Khalidiyah

Central and dense, with short school runs and the deepest in-home tutor supply on the island, so visiting rates here sit at the lower end of the published band. Slots from January are the constraint rather than price.

Al Nahyan and Al Karamah

Established central communities with several schools in walking distance of each other. Families here often compare an in-home quote against an online one and find the gap is almost entirely travel rather than teaching.

Al Zahiyah

Apartment living with heavy evening traffic through the area, which lengthens any visit scheduled between five and seven. An online slot that starts on the agreed minute is worth real money across a term of weekly sessions.

Al Reef

Villa communities at a distance from the island schools, where an in-home visit means a long round trip and a quote near the top of the published range. The drive, not the subject, is what the premium pays for.

Bain Al Jessrain and Al Maqtaa

Between the bridges, with bus runs in both directions and families often splitting the week across two emirates for work. Consistency of slot matters more here than session length.

Masdar City

A small, self-contained community where the local tutor pool is thin and specialist Standard Level maths cover is effectively an online question. This is where proximity-based searching produces the fewest options.

Al Wathba and Al Shahama

Outer communities where a weekday evening visit from the island is impractical in term time, so an in-home arrangement usually means a weekend block at a premium rate.

Al Dhafra region

Long distances from the city's Diploma schools and a very small local tutoring market. For Standard Level maths support here, online delivery is less a preference than the only workable format.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Al Khalidiyah, Al Nahyan and Al Karamah

Central Abu Dhabi schools with mature programmes and generally viable class sizes, where the tutoring requests we see lean towards exam technique and exploration timing rather than core content teaching. Costs here are usually about which hour is available rather than which tutor.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the last marked assessment

One marked Standard Level paper, with the school's mark scheme if it is available. Fifteen minutes with that script tells you what proportion of the lost marks are communication rather than content, and that proportion is what decides whether you need four sessions or a term.

  2. 02

Ask for the quote broken into variables

Level, session length, hour of day, tutor tier and commitment shape. Any provider who can only give one number is giving you an average. The six variables are what you control, and two of them reduce the figure without reducing the teaching.

  3. 03

Take the first session and keep the diagnosis

One session per student at no charge, ending in a written sorting of lost marks and a plan for the first month. Take that document to any other provider you are comparing; it makes two quotes comparable in a way that a price list cannot.

  4. 04

Fix the slot, the length and the between-session set

One recurring slot in Gulf Standard Time, ninety minutes where the schedule allows, plus a mixed unlabelled problem set each week. Ask for the set to be reviewed at the start of the next session rather than filed.

  5. 05

Review on three measures after eight weeks

Marks on recent assessments, the share of losses that are communication rather than content, and whether the practice sets are being completed. Continue, change or stop on those three rather than on how the sessions felt.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Figures with sources, not implications

Every AED band on this page is a published market figure with the kind of source and the month it was read. We do not publish our own rate as market research, and we do not quote a fee or a fine that no authority publishes.

The hour described before it is sold

A marked script read line by line, a mixed unlabelled set every week, and explicit work on command terms and mark types. If an hour contains none of those, the rate is not the problem with it.

Honest about delivery

Lessons are one to one and online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visits are an India-only service. The published in-home premium is travel, and travel teaches nothing.

Front-loading recommended against our own interest

The cheapest and most useful hours in the two years are the ones bought before DP1 and early in DP1. Saying so reduces what a family spends in total, which is the test of whether advice is advice.

Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own draft, with topic choice tested early. Nothing is supplied for submission. The student is the person the IB would penalise, which is why the boundary is not negotiable.

We will recommend stopping

Flat evidence after eight weeks means a different tutor, a different subject for the slot, or no tutoring. No promised grades, no claim of ADEK or IB approval, and no statistic without a sample size, a date and a method.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What is a realistic hourly budget for AA SL tuition in Abu Dhabi?+

Published UAE rates read in October 2026 put qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with specialist IB and A Level provision quoted around AED 200 to 450 and above and budget online provision advertised from as little as AED 33 to 150. Standard Level mathematics normally prices in the middle of that picture rather than at the specialist end, because the pool of competent tutors is larger than at Higher Level. Those are market figures from providers and rate trackers, not an IB Gram price, and the top of each band is what gets quoted from January onwards.

Does Standard Level maths cost less to support than Higher Level?+

Yes, and the reason is supply rather than quality. A 150-hour course with two papers can be taught well by far more people than a 240-hour course with extended problem solving, induction, complex numbers and differential equations, so Higher Level quotes drift towards the specialist band. The exceptions are the exploration, which carries the same twenty marks against the same five criteria at both levels, and the non-calculator paper, which needs the same deliberate separate practice. Pay the same attention to those two parts whichever level your child sits.

Why does the same tutor quote more in February than in September?+

Because demand across the emirate arrives at once after the winter break, when DP2 families see mock results and DP1 families see their first serious assessments. Rates harden, the better evening slots fill first, and the specialists with course experience are the first to become unavailable. The second cost is subtler: the fixes that pay best, such as rounding habits and written working, need six to eight weeks to become automatic, so a February start buys both a worse rate and a smaller available improvement.

Is an in-home maths tutor in Abu Dhabi worth the extra AED?+

Published in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor, and the gap is travel rather than teaching. For Standard Level mathematics the online format has a concrete advantage, because the student's written working has to be read line by line and a screen share shows it to both people at once. The honest case for a visit is a student who will not settle without an adult present. That is a real reason and it is not about mathematics.

How many AA SL sessions should we buy before judging the result?+

Eight weekly sessions, with a review at week four to check that documents are arriving and practice sets are being completed. Eight weeks is long enough for communication fixes to show in marks and short enough that a wrong match is cheap. Do not buy a term up front to judge at the end of it. The three measures to judge on are marks on recent assessments, the share of lost marks that are communication rather than content, and whether the unlabelled problem sets came back done.

Does a ninety-minute session cost more per mark than a sixty-minute one?+

Usually less, for this subject. Mathematics rewards a long slot because the useful unit of work is a complete problem followed by the repair it exposes, and that rarely fits in forty-five minutes of teaching time. Ninety-minute slots are also often priced below two separate sixty-minute sessions for the same total hours, because they carry fewer scheduling overheads for the tutor. The constraint is the student's concentration, which in term time means fighting for a slot before they are finished for the day rather than after.

What is the single cheapest thing we can fix in my child's AA SL work?+

Premature rounding, almost every time. Unless a question states otherwise a final answer is expected to three significant figures, and a value rounded mid-calculation and carried forward gives a final answer wrong in the third figure, losing the accuracy mark while the method marks survive. One session establishes storing values and rounding once at the end; a month makes it habit. It recurs on every calculator paper your child will ever sit, which makes it the highest return per hour available in the course.

Should we pay up front for a block of Abu Dhabi maths sessions?+

Monthly packages are advertised at a discount to the hourly figure, including online monthly packages from around AED 799 for eight sessions, so there is a genuine saving. The cost is flexibility: a block reduces your ability to stop at week four when the evidence says the match is wrong. A reasonable compromise is to pay per session for the first four, review, then take a block once you know the hour is productive. Ask what happens to unused sessions before paying for any package.

Can two Abu Dhabi students share an AA SL tutor to split the cost?+

It works when both students are at a similar point in the course and the work is content coverage. It works poorly when the marks are being lost in each student's own written working, because reading one student's script line by line is not something the other can usefully watch. Published group rates sit below one-to-one, and the saving is real. The question to ask is whose script gets read this week, and if the answer is neither, the lower rate is buying a less useful hour.

Are AA SL tutoring quotes in Abu Dhabi inclusive of VAT?+

Ask, and get it in writing before the first invoice. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general rule, because that is a Federal Tax Authority matter and tutoring pages asserting it are guessing. What a parent can reasonably require is that every quoted AED figure says whether it is inclusive or exclusive, and that any provider charging tax shows a registration number. The published market bands cited on this page do not consistently state their tax treatment, which is itself worth knowing when comparing them.

How much should we budget for exploration support?+

Less than families spend, and much earlier. Three or four sessions in DP1 on topic choice, on whether the idea can generate mathematics at the level of the course, and on what the reflection criterion must evaluate, is the best value in the two years. At mid-tier published rates that is a few hundred dirhams to perhaps twelve hundred in total. Money spent late, on polishing a topic that cannot carry Standard Level mathematics, buys presentation marks and leaves the use-of-mathematics criterion where it was.

Is tutoring worth paying for if my child is only one grade off target?+

Often yes, and usually in fewer hours than expected, because a single grade is frequently carried by communication losses rather than content gaps. Sort the last marked script into mathematics not known, mathematics not selected, and mathematics not paid for, and if the third pile is the largest then four to six sessions is a realistic plan rather than a term. Nobody can promise a grade, and anyone who does should be disregarded. What can be said is which band of errors is costing the marks and roughly what it takes to repair.

Does ADEK regulate tutoring prices in Abu Dhabi?+

No. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate and publishes its own inspection ratings, and school fee policy sits with the regulator, but private tutoring is a separate market that moves with demand. What does apply to tutors is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Check ADEK's own announcements for current school fee policy rather than any tutoring page's summary, including this one.

What happens to the fee if we pause during mock weeks?+

Pausing is sensible and should not be penalised. A Diploma student in an assessment week has no spare capacity, and a session added to a full week produces effort rather than marks. Where a session is kept, the best use of it is reading the student's own marked assessment, which is the most informative document available and usually goes unexamined. Ask any provider before paying what their policy is on pausing and on unused sessions in a package, because that answer tells you how a flat term will be handled.

Is it too late in DP2 for AA SL tuition to be worth the cost?+

Not too late, but the arithmetic changes. Communication fixes still pay in eight weeks, because rounding habits, written method and justification sentences transfer to every question on both papers. Content gaps compress poorly, and the exploration is usually beyond useful influence once the internal deadline is close. Published specialist exam-year monthly figures run from AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above, so late support is also the most expensive. Start with the marked script, decide which pile dominates, and buy only the work that pile needs.

Get the quote broken down, then send one script

If you are pricing an AA SL tutor in Abu Dhabi, you now have the published market bands in AED with their sources, the six variables that move a quote, a two-year plan built from those bands, and the three things an hour has to contain to return marks. Ask any provider to break their number into those variables, then send us the last marked Standard Level assessment and take a first session at no charge, one per student. You will leave with the lost marks sorted into content, selection and communication, which makes every other quote you are holding comparable. Lessons are online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.
