Edexcel IGCSE Home Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Searching for an Edexcel IGCSE home tutor in Abu Dhabi is a search about logistics as much as teaching: somebody who knows 4MA1 or 4CH1 and can be in the room by half past five. This page answers the home-tuition question properly - what the emirate's visiting market charges, what the drive costs out of a paid hour, and who is permitted to teach - then states plainly that IB Gram delivers this as one-to-one live online tuition, and lets the comparison stand on its own.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

What a parent is really asking for when they want a tutor in the house

The request behind this search is rarely about pedagogy. It is about a Tuesday. School finishes, the bus arrives somewhere between a quarter past three and four, there is football or music, and by the time homework starts the useful part of the evening is thinning out. Having an adult physically present at a fixed time solves a supervision problem and a motivation problem at once, and parents who ask for a home tutor in Abu Dhabi are usually solving those first and the subject second.

That is worth taking seriously rather than arguing with. So this page does the home-tuition question properly. What visiting tutors in this emirate actually charge once travel is priced in. How much of a sixty-minute slot survives a crossing from the island to Khalifa City at half past five. Which categories of person are permitted to tutor privately in the UAE at all, and what the Abu Dhabi ethics rules say about a child's own schoolteacher. What a household needs on the desk for the arrangement to work at all, visiting or otherwise.

Then the position, stated once and clearly: IB Gram does not sell home visits in Abu Dhabi. Visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. In the UAE every lesson is one-to-one and live over video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. We would rather you read that in paragraph three than discover it after a form.

The case for the online format is not that it is a near-enough substitute. It is that on three of the four things a parent is buying it is straightforwardly better. The tutor pool is the whole pool rather than the drivable one, which decides whether your child gets somebody who has taught 4CH1 organic chemistry to Year 11 forty times or somebody who is confident with science generally. None of the hour is spent in a car, so a sixty-minute slot is sixty minutes. And the work leaves a trail: an annotated screen can be saved, a marked PDF can be compared with the one from a month ago, and a parent in another room can read both.

The fourth thing - an adult in the room - online delivery genuinely does not provide. The section on supervision deals with that honestly, because the answer is a household arrangement rather than a feature, and pretending otherwise would be the kind of claim this page is trying to argue against.

Everything below is specific to this emirate rather than to the Gulf in general. Abu Dhabi private schools are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which publishes its own inspection outcomes. School bus arrivals cluster earlier in the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor than on the island, which changes which hour a session can realistically occupy. And the emirate carries an ethics rule on school staff tutoring their own students that does not sit in the same place everywhere in the country. Those three facts do more to shape a workable tutoring arrangement here than any statement about teaching philosophy, so they are treated as the starting conditions rather than as background.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Edexcel sits inside a British-curriculum route that Abu Dhabi families join at different points. The stages below are the three where a request for a tutor in the house most often arrives, and each has a different reason behind it.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

The year before the specification starts

Requests at this stage are usually about work habits rather than content. A parent wants somebody sitting with a thirteen-year-old for an hour a week so that independent study becomes a thing that happens. The subject work is genuinely secondary, and that is a legitimate purchase, but it is worth knowing it is what you are buying.

Several Abu Dhabi British-curriculum schools begin Edexcel content during Year 9 rather than waiting for Year 10. Ask your head of key stage which applies, because a student already working on 4MA1 material should be practising on real past paper questions from the start, and a habit-building session that never touches a paper will not show up in a mock.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

First year of the Edexcel course

The year when codes appear on timetables and content starts accumulating faster than most students revise it. A weekly hour here is the cheapest intervention in the whole British-curriculum route, because it works on topics while they are still current rather than reconstructing them eighteen months later under exam pressure.

Year 10 is also when Abu Dhabi families discover how many subjects their child has taken on. Nine or ten entries is common in this emirate, and a tutor is not a solution to an overloaded timetable. If the real problem is subject count, the conversation belongs with the school before any hours are bought.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Examination year and the series decision

The year where logistics get tightest and where parents most want a physical presence. Work is paper-led: timed questions, question selection, command terms and the two or three topics a marked script actually names. The entry decisions - tier, subject count, whether to sit in November - are made months before the papers.

Entries in Abu Dhabi go through the school's examinations officer, so the deadline that binds your family is the centre's internal cut-off rather than any date Pearson publishes publicly. Ask for it in writing in the autumn term. Families who leave it find that a tier change or an extra subject is no longer available, whatever the tutoring plan says.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Edexcel codes Abu Dhabi households most often name when they call asking for somebody to come round. The notes say what a session actually works on, because the subject label and the examinable skill are not always the same thing.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation or Higher tier

The most requested code in this emirate by a wide margin. Two equally weighted papers, so there is no easier sitting to rely on. Sessions work on method chains that survive to step four, on the difference between a method mark and an accuracy mark, and on the habit of banking straightforward marks before grinding at a hard question.

Physics (4PH1)

Single tier

Two written papers, the first considerably longer and heavier. Practical skills are examined inside the written papers rather than separately, which is reassuring for an online arrangement and surprising to parents who expect a laboratory. Work concentrates on units, rearranging equations under pressure and the sequencing of extended explanations.

Chemistry (4CH1)

Single tier

Organic chemistry and moles arithmetic account for most of the recoverable marks in Abu Dhabi cohorts. Both are highly structured, which makes them well suited to short repeated practice rather than long explanatory sessions. A student who can do moles calculations reliably has usually bought back a grade boundary's worth of marks.

Biology (4BI1)

Single tier

The subject where marks are lost to vocabulary rather than to understanding. Denatured rather than killed, diffusion rather than movement, named example rather than general case. Sessions drill command terms and precise phrasing, and parents are often surprised how much of the gain is linguistic.

English Language A (4EA1)

Single tier

Non-fiction reading and transactional writing in one paper, poetry and prose with imaginative writing in the other, and a coursework alternative at centres that offer it. The shift that moves marks is from summarising what a writer said to analysing the choices the writer made.

English Literature (4ET1)

Single tier

Quotation banks, paragraph shape and timing across questions. Strong readers often underperform here because they write appreciation rather than argument. Work is on integrating short quotations into a sentence that is already making a point, which is a technique rather than a talent.

Business (4BS1)

Single tier

Definitions must be precise and chains of reasoning must be developed rather than listed. The highest-tariff questions ask for evaluation, and evaluation has a teachable structure. A student who writes four unconnected advantages is scoring a fraction of what the same knowledge could earn.

Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

Single tier

Taken alongside 4MA1 or 4MB1 by students heading towards maths-heavy sixth-form routes. Calculus and series arrive early, so the limiting factor is almost always algebraic fluency rather than the new content itself. This is one of the codes with the thinnest local specialist coverage in Abu Dhabi.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements cover the realistic options for an Abu Dhabi household, and they differ most in what happens to the supervision problem that started the search. Each is described with its actual trade-off rather than its best case.

Fixed weekly online slot

The same hour, the same tutor, the same room in your home, every week. Nothing is spent on travel, so the full slot is teaching time, and the session leaves a saved annotated paper behind. This is the arrangement most Abu Dhabi families settle into once the novelty question about screens has been answered by two or three lessons.

  • Full sixty or ninety minutes of teaching, with no travel deduction
  • Annotated paper saved and shared after every session
  • Specialist in the exact specification code rather than the nearest generalist
  • A parent can sit in without a stranger being in the house

Ninety-minute weekend block

One longer session instead of two short weekday ones, usually Friday or Saturday morning. For Edexcel this often works better than two midweek hours, because a full paper under timing needs a continuous stretch and a tired fifteen-year-old at seven in the evening does not produce usable evidence.

  • Long enough to sit a full paper and review it in one sitting
  • Avoids the evening peak and the school-run window entirely
  • Suits students with heavy midweek co-curricular commitments
  • Easier to protect across travel and school holidays

Pre-series intensive block

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before a May/June or November series, built around papers rather than content. Marking turns around the same day so the student is still holding the question when the feedback arrives. Targets are stated as components and marks, never as a promised grade.

  • Paper-led, with same-day marking against the published scheme
  • Planned against the live Pearson timetable for that series
  • Well suited to resit candidates whose content is already in place
  • Fixed number of sessions, agreed and priced before it starts

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What the Abu Dhabi visiting market charges, and who published the figures

Three of the six most visible tutoring sites serving this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not a currency UAE families transact in. So here are the bands, in dirhams, with the source attached to each. They are market rates gathered in October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

At the budget end, platforms advertise online tuition from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with one UAE content site listing its own entry rates from AED 45 to AED 65 and one regional platform from around AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject tutor working online sits in the AED 150 to AED 300 band; one UAE agency publishes its own IGCSE rates from AED 150 an hour. An in-home one-to-one visit, travel included, runs from about AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table putting the common range at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors advertising AED 200 to AED 500. Named examiner-level tutors are quoted up to AED 650 and above.

Monthly packages circulate too. Around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions is a common online shape, while in-home packages of four two-hour sessions appear at roughly AED 1,599 to AED 1,799. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

The pattern in those numbers is the whole argument of this page. Visiting tuition in Abu Dhabi is priced roughly a third higher than equivalent online tuition for the same qualification level, and the difference is not teaching. It is a car. Whether that premium is worth paying depends entirely on whether the thing you are buying is subject expertise or adult presence, and it is worth being honest with yourself about which.

Where a visiting hour actually goes, minute by minute

Parents price a visiting tutor by the hour and then experience something shorter, and the gap is rarely anybody behaving badly. It is arithmetic. A tutor with a 17:00 booking in Al Raha Gardens and an 18:30 in Khalifa City has to protect the second one, which means the first one ends in time to make the drive. Nothing dishonest has happened and the family has still paid for sixty minutes.

Set against that, an online session starts when the clock says so. The difference is not marginal. Across a thirty-week school year, ten lost minutes a week is five hours of teaching, which at the published mid-market rate is a meaningful sum of money for something that produced no marks.

There is a second, quieter cost in the visiting model. A tutor who has driven thirty minutes has an incentive to fill the hour with activity, because activity looks like value to whoever is listening from the kitchen. Sitting a student in silence for twenty-five minutes while they attempt a timed question alone is often the most useful thing that can happen in a session, and it is the hardest thing to do with an audience and a car waiting outside.

The table below breaks a sixty-minute visiting slot into its parts as Abu Dhabi families describe them, alongside what the same minutes look like over a video link. Neither column is flattering to the other on every row, which is the point of putting them side by side.

03

Is the person you are letting in permitted to teach privately?

Private tutoring in the UAE is not an unregulated activity, and this is the part of the decision most households skip. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

The official route is MoHRE's own service, listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit for Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated completion time of two working days and no fee listed. That is the page to send anybody who tells you a permit is expensive, slow or optional.

There is an Abu Dhabi-specific point that matters more here than anywhere else in the country. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the holder's school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical advice is unambiguous either way: however convenient it looks, your child's own subject teacher is the wrong person to pay privately.

A separate thing entirely is an organisation with premises and staff. A tuition centre operating in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal. IB Gram is not a centre, holds no such permit, and should never be described as approved by any regulator. We can tell you what each body does; none of them endorses us.

The supervision problem, and the part online delivery does not solve

  • Desk in a shared room, door open, device on a table rather than a lap
  • Paper and pen in use during the session; the screen is for the tutor, not the working
  • Parent within earshot for the first two or three lessons, then deliberately not
  • Session scheduled before co-curriculars, not after them

An adult in the room is a real service and online tuition does not provide it. Saying otherwise would be the sort of claim this page spends most of its length pushing back against, so here is the honest version: if what you need is somebody to make a fourteen-year-old sit down, a video link is a weaker tool than a person at the table, and you should solve that part separately.

What works in practice in Abu Dhabi households is a small set of arrangements that cost nothing. The session happens at a desk in a shared part of the home rather than in a bedroom, with the door open. A parent is within earshot for the first two or three lessons and then stops being, because the point is for the student to own the hour. The device is on a table, not on a lap, with a second screen or a printed paper beside it so the student can write by hand while the tutor can see the page.

That last detail does more work than people expect. Edexcel maths and science are written subjects: students have to produce working on paper under timing. A session where everything happens on a screen trains the wrong motor habit. The households that get most from online tuition print the paper, work in pen, and hold it up to the camera or photograph it afterwards. The tutor annotates the scan, and now there is a dated artefact that a visiting arrangement would have left as a conversation.

The other half of supervision is attention, and attention is a schedule problem more than a presence problem. A student who is being tutored at 19:30 after football is not going to produce evidence of anything. In Abu Dhabi, where bus arrivals cluster between 15:15 and 16:00 in the Khalifa City corridor and later on the island, the single most effective change most families can make is moving the session half an hour earlier.

05

What a visiting tutor cannot easily leave behind

A good visiting tutor produces exactly the same teaching as a good online one. Where the formats genuinely diverge is in the record. A session in your sitting room leaves a conversation at the door and some writing in an exercise book. A session on a shared screen leaves an annotated document, and that difference compounds over a term.

Consider the question every parent asks in month two: is this working. Answering it requires two comparable pieces of evidence. The baseline paper from week one and a similar paper from week five, both marked against the published Pearson scheme, with the lost marks grouped by topic and by assessment objective. Those documents are trivially easy to produce when the marking happened on a screen and almost always absent when it happened in pencil on a sheet that went back into a school bag.

This is also the difference between a tutor's opinion and a second opinion. If you want to show somebody else what is going on - the school, a different tutor, a relative who teaches maths - you need artefacts that leave the house. A dated folder of marked scripts does that. A positive impression does not, and when a family decides to change tutor after two terms, the absence of that folder is usually what makes the next tutor start from scratch at your expense.

None of this makes a visiting tutor the wrong choice for a household whose main problem is a thirteen-year-old who will not sit down. It does mean that if your problem is eleven missing marks on 4PH1 Paper 1, the format that produces the evidence is the one worth paying for.

06

Recordings, forms and a minor's data

Online delivery creates records, and records about a child need a stated purpose. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection governs how personal data is handled, and a tutoring arrangement involving a minor should be explicit about what is collected and why rather than leaving it to a privacy page nobody opens.

The practical questions to ask any provider, including us, are short. Is the session recorded, and if so who can watch it and for how long is it kept. Where do the marked scripts live, and can you take a copy if you leave. What does the enquiry form collect, and why does it need that field. Is the child's school name being collected for matching, for marketing, or for neither. A provider who cannot answer those in plain language has not thought about it.

Our position is that a lesson is recorded only when the family asks for it, that marked scripts belong to you and are shareable on request, and that an enquiry needs the specification codes, the year group and a contact - not a photograph, not a report card, and not a list of grades. If a form asks a UAE family for a child's school, grades and photograph without saying what each is for, that is a reason to be careful rather than a sign of thoroughness.

One more thing worth checking on any UAE page, ours included: the contact route. Two sites ranking for Abu Dhabi tutoring queries route parents to Indian mobile numbers, and one shows a Dubai address on an Abu Dhabi page. Neither is illegal and both tell you something about how carefully the page was built.

07

Ramadan, travel and the weeks the plan has to survive

  • Ramadan: a post-Iftar slot by agreement, with shorter sessions and the same cadence
  • Travel weeks: one session a fortnight beats stopping and restarting cold
  • Mock fortnights: often the right week to pause rather than add
  • Name the planned pauses at the start, in writing

A tutoring plan in Abu Dhabi has to survive the UAE calendar, and the calendar is not the same as a northern-hemisphere school year. Ramadan shortens school days and shifts the usable study hours into the evening, and for many households the workable slot during that month is after Iftar rather than at half past five. A visiting arrangement in that window is harder to sustain for everybody involved; an online slot moves by agreement.

Long summer and winter breaks spent outside the country are the other recurring disruption. Abu Dhabi families travel, often for several weeks, and a visiting tutor cannot follow. A video link can, subject to the time difference being workable, which it usually is for the UK, Europe, India and East Africa. The students who lose least over a summer are the ones who keep a reduced schedule of one session a fortnight rather than stopping entirely and restarting cold in September.

There are also weeks when stopping is the right call. Internal mock fortnights, the days immediately before a paper, and the week a family moves house are all periods where an extra hour of tuition subtracts rather than adds. A plan that names its pauses in advance is more likely to be kept than one that treats every missed week as a failure.

Where this lands practically: agree the slot, agree what happens during Ramadan, agree what happens in July, and agree the two or three weeks you will deliberately skip. Doing that at the start costs one conversation and prevents the slow erosion that ends most tutoring arrangements in this market before they produce any evidence.

08

Comparing two quotes that describe different things

Abu Dhabi parents routinely compare an AED 200 online hour with an AED 320 visiting hour and conclude that one is better value. The numbers are not comparable until you know what each includes, and in this market they rarely include the same things.

Six questions make two quotes describe the same product. Is the price per hour or per session, and is a session sixty minutes or fifty. Is marking against the published mark scheme included, or is it extra, or does it simply not happen. Who provides the papers, and are they the official Pearson versions for the entered specification. Is there a written review at any point, and how often. What happens if the tutor is unavailable for a fortnight - replacement, credit, or nothing. And what is the notice period for stopping.

Ask those six and the apparently cheaper quote often turns out to be the dearer one. A fifty-minute session with no marking and no written review, at AED 200, costs more per recovered mark than a sixty-minute session with same-day marking at AED 250. Cost per hour is the wrong unit; cost per mark actually moved is the right one, and nobody can tell you that number in advance - which is exactly why the four-week evidence point matters.

One caution on figures you will be shown. If a provider quotes you a success statistic - a percentage, an average grade, a number of students helped - ask for the sample size, the date and the method. Figures on tutoring sites in this market frequently contradict themselves on the same page, and a number that cannot be sourced should not move a buying decision.

Where we tutor

What the drive actually costs, community by community

Travel is the whole of the visiting-tutor economics in this emirate. The notes below describe the realistic evening picture in each community rather than a map distance, because a tutor's willingness to take a slot is decided by what the return leg does to their next booking.

Khalifa City

Buses land between 15:15 and 16:00, so a 16:30 start is genuinely available here. A tutor coming from the island in the evening peak will often lose fifteen to twenty-five minutes each way, which is why Khalifa City households are quoted at the upper end of the visiting band.

Al Raha Gardens and Al Raha Beach

Villa communities with the emirate's longest island-bound commutes. Parents here report tutors arriving late and leaving early to protect a second booking, which turns a paid hour into something closer to forty-five teaching minutes.

Saadiyat Island

Short school runs, late co-curricular finishes and a willing supply of visiting tutors because the drive is short from the island. The constraint here is the student's calendar rather than the tutor's, and 18:00 and 18:30 slots fill first.

Al Reem Island

Bridge-dependent in both directions, with high-rise parking and lift time that nobody prices in. A fixed repeating slot survives the week far better than a negotiated one, whichever format you choose.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Large mainland communities a long way from the island specialist pool. These are the postcodes where a parent looking for a 4PM1 or 4CP0 tutor within driving distance most often finds nobody at all, at any price.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Newer housing with growing Year 10 and Year 11 cohorts. Visiting tutors frequently decline these slots outright in the evening peak, or price them with the return leg included, which is the honest way to do it.

Al Bateen and Al Mushrif

The best-served part of the emirate for visiting tuition: short runs, long-established schools and a dense tutor supply. If a household anywhere in Abu Dhabi can make a visiting arrangement work on cost, it is here.

School ecosystem

Island schools

Long-established British-curriculum provision with early internal mock calendars. Students from these schools usually reach tuition already holding marked mock scripts, which shortens the diagnostic and means fewer paid hours spent finding out what is wrong.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say where you are and which codes

The community, the school, the specification codes and the hour you want. Abu Dhabi geography genuinely matters to scheduling even in an online arrangement, because bus arrival times differ by twenty-five minutes or more between the island and the Khalifa City corridor, and the slot has to fit the real evening.

  2. 02

    Hear the coverage position first

Before any trial we tell you whether a specialist in that exact code is free at that hour, what the realistic wait is if not, and what the alternative looks like. On thinner codes such as Further Pure Mathematics or Computer Science that answer is sometimes no, and you get it before you have invested anything.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, with the format tested

The trial is a working session that deliberately tests the online format: a timed question attempted alone, written by hand, photographed and annotated. That is the part families are unsure about, so it is the part the trial should answer rather than postpone.

  4. 04

Set the household arrangement, then start

Desk in a shared room, door open, paper and pen, and a slot that sits before co-curriculars rather than after them. Five minutes of planning here changes more about the outcome than the choice of tutor does, and it costs nothing.

Review at four weeks and decide

A dated written review with the baseline mark, the current mark, lost marks grouped by topic and assessment objective, and three targets. Then a decision: continue, move the hours, change tutor, or stop. If the evidence does not support continuing we will say so in writing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The position is stated before the form

IB Gram does not sell visiting tuition in the UAE, and this page says so in its third paragraph rather than in a footnote. You can decide whether the online format suits your household before you have given anybody a phone number, which is how it should work.

Figures carry their sources

Every AED band on this page is attributed to whoever published it and dated to October 2026. They are market rates, not our prices. Three of the most visible sites in this market publish no figure at all, and two quote in dollars, which is not the currency Abu Dhabi families pay in.

The whole specialist pool, not the drivable one

A household in Al Shamkha gets a tutor who has taught the exact Edexcel code many times, rather than the best available person within a twenty-minute drive. On thin codes such as 4PM1 and 4CP0 that is the difference between a specialist and a willing generalist.

The hour is the hour

No part of the slot goes into a car, in either direction, and no session ends early to protect a booking across a bridge. Over a school year the recovered time is substantial, and it is time that produces marked work rather than apologies.

Records you can take with you

Annotated papers, mark-scheme feedback and the four-week review are yours to keep and to show to anybody: the school, a second tutor, a relative who teaches the subject. Evidence that lives only in a provider's account is not evidence you can act on.

Honest about what we do not do

Online delivery does not put an adult at the table, and we do not pretend it does. Where that is the thing you are buying, the section above sets out household arrangements that work instead. A disclosed limitation is more useful than a discovered one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

Do tutors travel to villas in Khalifa City or Al Raha for Edexcel lessons?+

Not through us. IB Gram does not sell home visits in Abu Dhabi; visiting tuition is a service we run only in India. In the UAE every lesson is one-to-one and live over video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. Independent visiting tutors do serve both communities, and the published market band for an in-home hour including travel runs from roughly AED 180 to AED 500. If you want the visiting option, that is the band to negotiate within, and the questions to ask are about the permit, the travel buffer and whether marking is included.

What does a visiting IGCSE tutor charge per hour in Abu Dhabi right now?+

Published market rates gathered in October 2026 put an in-home one-to-one hour between about AED 180 and AED 500 once travel is priced in. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table gives a common range of AED 180 to AED 350, independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to AED 500, and named examiner-level tutors are quoted up to AED 650 and above. Monthly in-home packages of four two-hour sessions appear around AED 1,599 to AED 1,799. Those are other people's figures with their sources named, not an IB Gram price list.

How much of a paid hour does an Abu Dhabi home tutor actually spend teaching?+

Families here typically describe forty-five to fifty teaching minutes inside a sixty-minute booking. Arrival and settling takes five to eight minutes, and a tutor with a second booking across a bridge often finishes five to ten minutes early to protect it. Nobody is behaving badly; it is arithmetic about traffic. Across a thirty-week year, ten lost minutes a week is roughly five hours of teaching, which at mid-market rates is a real sum for something that produced no marks. An online slot does not carry that deduction at either end.

Is a home tutor better for a child who gets distracted in front of a screen?+

Sometimes, and it depends what the distraction is. If the issue is that a fourteen-year-old will not start without an adult present, a person at the table is a stronger tool than a video link, and that is worth saying plainly. If the issue is a device with notifications on it, the fix is the household arrangement rather than the format: desk in a shared room, door open, phone in another room, paper and pen for the working. Try two or three online sessions set up that way before concluding the format is the problem.

Can my son's own class teacher at his Abu Dhabi school tutor him privately?+

Treat it as ruled out. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes a prohibition on teachers providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the holder's school. Confirm the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on the detail. Beyond the rules there is a practical reason: the person who sets your son's internal assessments should not also be paid to prepare him for them.

What equipment does a household in Al Reem Island need for online Edexcel lessons?+

Less than people expect. A laptop or tablet on a table rather than a lap, a reliable connection, headphones, and a printed past paper with a pen. The screen is for the tutor's annotation and explanation; the working should still happen by hand, because Edexcel maths and science are written subjects assessed on paper under timing. A second small screen or a propped phone camera showing the page helps but is not essential. Nothing needs to be bought before a trial lesson tells you whether the arrangement suits your household.

Who else can be in the room while an online Edexcel lesson is running?+

Anyone you like, and we encourage a parent to be within earshot for the first two or three sessions. After that it is usually better to step back, because the student needs to own the hour and a watched teenager performs rather than works. What matters more than presence is the layout: a desk in a shared part of the home with the door open, rather than a laptop in a bedroom. That arrangement is also the sensible safeguarding default for any one-to-one teaching, in any format.

Are lesson recordings kept, and what happens to my daughter's data?+

Sessions are recorded only when a family asks for it. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection governs personal data here, and a minor's data deserves an explicit answer rather than a buried policy. Ask any provider three things: is the session recorded and who can watch it, where do the marked scripts live and can you take copies, and what does the enquiry form collect and why. Our enquiries need the specification codes, the year group and a contact; not a photograph, a report card or a list of grades.

We have two children on Edexcel courses. Does a visiting tutor work out cheaper?+

Only if both children need the same subject at the same level, which is unusual. One travel cost spread across two consecutive hours does reduce the premium, so a visiting arrangement is at its most economic in exactly this case. The catch is specialism: a tutor strong in 4MA1 Higher is not automatically the right person for 4ET1, and two consecutive hours with a generalist can cost more per recovered mark than two separate specialists. Price it per mark moved rather than per visit, and run a diagnostic paper for each child first.

Does an online tutor charge less than a visiting tutor for the same Edexcel paper?+

On the published figures, yes, and by a meaningful margin. A qualified subject tutor working online sits in a band of roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour in this market, while the in-home band runs AED 180 to AED 500 once travel is included. The difference is not teaching quality; it is a car and the opportunity cost of the driver's evening. Those are market rates with their sources named, gathered in October 2026. Whether the premium is worth paying depends on whether you are buying expertise or an adult in the room.

Our Wi-Fi drops in the evening. What happens to a lesson that cuts out?+

Tell us before the first session so the plan accounts for it. Practical mitigations work: a wired connection or a position closer to the router, a phone hotspot as the agreed fallback, and a rule that anything lost to a genuine technical failure is made up rather than billed. Because the materials are a printed paper and a shared document, a two-minute dropout costs two minutes rather than the session. Households in older island apartment stock and in some high-rise buildings report this most, so it is a normal conversation rather than an awkward one.

How do we get the marked papers if the tutor is not in the house?+

The student works on a printed paper by hand, photographs or scans it, and the tutor annotates the scan against the published Pearson mark scheme. You receive the annotated version, dated, and it stays yours. Over a term that folder becomes the only reliable answer to whether the tuition is working, because it lets you compare a week-one paper with a week-five paper on the same scheme. It is also what you hand to the school, or to a different tutor, without anybody starting again from nothing.

What should we ask a visiting tutor before letting them into the house?+

Four things, in this order. Do you hold a MoHRE private tuition work permit, and may I see it. Do you currently teach at my child's school, because in this emirate that should rule you out. Is the price per sixty minutes, and does it include marking against the published mark scheme. And what written record will exist after a month. A tutor who answers all four without hesitation is probably the right sort of person regardless of format; one who deflects on the permit question has told you something important.

Can lessons move to after Iftar during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi?+

Yes, and most families do. School days shorten and the usable study hours shift into the evening, so a post-Iftar slot often works better than the usual half past five. The sensible pattern is to keep the same weekly cadence but shorten sessions, because concentration rather than willingness is the limiting factor that month. Agree the Ramadan arrangement at the start of the year rather than in the week before it begins; plans that are renegotiated under pressure are the ones that quietly stop.

What happens if we need to reschedule a session at short notice?+

Ask for the notice period in writing before you book anything, from us or anybody. Our working rule is that a slot moved with reasonable notice is moved, a slot missed without notice is used, and anything lost to a technical failure on our side is made up. The reason to settle this early is that rescheduling is the most common friction point in a year-long arrangement in this market, and an unstated policy becomes an argument in week nine rather than a line in a message in week one.

Is group tuition at a centre in Abu Dhabi a cheaper option than either?+

Per hour, yes; per recovered mark, often not. A group class costs less per student and delivers less individual talk time and far less marking, which is where most of the value sits for an Edexcel candidate with eleven specific missing marks. It also adds a second school run at the end of an already long day. Groups work well for broad revision across a cohort and for students who are broadly secure and need pace. They work poorly when the problem is one topic, one method chain or one paper's timing.

Decide what you are actually buying

If the thing your household needs is an adult at the table, a visiting tutor is a real answer and the band to negotiate within is roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour. If what you need is somebody who has taught 4CH1 or 4PM1 to Year 11 many times, at full value for every minute you pay for, with marked papers you keep, then online one-to-one is the stronger purchase and it is what we deliver in Abu Dhabi. Tell us the codes, the community and the hour, take the free trial, and test the format on a real timed question before deciding anything.
