IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science Tutor in Abu Dhabi

Booking an IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science tutor in Abu Dhabi usually means paying for scarcity. Few teachers in the emirate have taught this subject, almost none are free at 7pm, and the hourly figure parents are quoted reflects that rather than the difficulty of the course. This page breaks the cost down by what you are actually buying: content hours, marked papers, and review of a scientific investigation the student must write themselves. Sessions run one-to-one online, in Gulf Standard Time, after a free trial lesson.

  • Priced per 60 minutes, with marking and a written note inside the rate
  • Tutors who have taught the current group 4 guide, not a related science
  • Sessions scheduled around academy training and school fixtures
  • The scientific investigation stays the student's work from first word to last

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

What you are buying when you book a SEHS tutor in this emirate

An IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science tutor in Abu Dhabi is quoted at the specialist end of the market, roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, and parents are rarely told why. The reason is supply. This subject runs in a handful of schools in the emirate, often with one class in a year group, and the teachers who have taught it are mostly employed full time in those schools. A parent ringing round for Biology help has a wide field. A parent ringing round for SEHS has a short list and a waiting period.

Difficulty is not what sets the figure. SEHS content is less voluminous than Biology and the mathematics is lighter than Physics. What makes the hours valuable is that the subject is assessed in ways a generalist science tutor handles badly: data-based questions on exercise physiology, extended responses that reward applied examples, and a scientific investigation involving human participants that carries a fifth of the grade. Confirm the exact weighting with your school's IB coordinator, because the group 4 guides changed recently and schools adopted them at different points.

This page prices the subject by component rather than by month. It sets out what each part of the course demands, where Abu Dhabi students lose marks in it, what an investigation review block costs, and what the Abu Dhabi calendar does to scheduling once academy training, school fixtures and Ramadan are in the diary. Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it, read in October 2026, and none of it is an IB Gram price list.

Delivery is worth stating before anything else. IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own work shared on screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visits are a service we run only in India. For this subject that limitation costs a family almost nothing, because the thing being taught is how to read a graph of oxygen uptake and how to structure an answer, neither of which improves by having a tutor in the room.

A note on who tends to book. Roughly half of our Abu Dhabi SEHS caseload are students training seriously in a sport, often at a club or academy around Zayed Sports City or Al Jazira, who chose the subject because it describes what they already do. The other half chose it as the lighter group 4 route and discovered the papers are not light at all. The two groups need different hours: the first needs writing technique, the second needs physiology taught properly from the start. Knowing which group your child sits in is the cheapest diagnostic available, and it usually takes one marked paper to find out.

At a glance

  • Specialist band quoted in this market: roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour
  • The scientific investigation involves human participants, which changes how a method must be designed
  • Abu Dhabi cohorts are small, so a specialist is scarce rather than expensive by nature
  • Session times are built around training schedules, not around a default 4pm slot
  • Every quote states the rate per 60 minutes, what marking is included and the cancellation rule
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

SEHS is examined only in the Diploma, but the skills it tests are built earlier. Here is what each IB stage contributes for an Abu Dhabi student heading towards this subject, and what support at each stage is realistically for.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Where SEHS is taught and assessed. Students handle anatomy, exercise physiology, energy systems, biomechanics, skill acquisition and training principles, then produce a scientific investigation of their own design. Written assessment rewards applied examples and precise reading of data; the investigation rewards a method that can actually be run with willing participants and the equipment a school has.

Abu Dhabi cohorts for this subject are small and often taught alongside Biology by the same teacher. Students who train at a club or academy frequently need sessions after 7.30pm, which is the single most requested slot in our Abu Dhabi caseload and the first one to fill each term.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Sciences and Physical and Health Education together build what SEHS later assumes: a working idea of a controlled variable, a graph that answers a question, and the vocabulary of fitness components. A Year 11 student who has written one properly structured science investigation arrives in DP1 months ahead of one who has not.

Not every Abu Dhabi school running the Middle Years Programme sits eAssessment, and the difference shows in how formally a student has been taught to write a method. We ask which model the child has sat before deciding whether a DP1 block needs to start with investigation skills.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No link to a SEHS grade, but the habit of measuring something twice and asking why the numbers differ begins here. Primary support in Abu Dhabi is quoted far below Diploma rates and is usually booked for literacy and mathematics rather than for science content.

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies run alongside the licensed curriculum in UAE private schools under the federal requirement, so Primary timetables here are fuller than the same school's abroad. Session length is set with that in mind.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A natural fit for students combining Diploma courses with a sports or health-related career study. SEHS taken within this route is assessed against the same subject guide, so the tutoring is identical even though the certificate differs.

This route is uncommon in Abu Dhabi, which means families often cannot find anyone nearby who has supported a student on it. Online matching is the practical answer, and it is the clearest instance where distance, not expertise, was the limiting factor.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

SEHS students in Abu Dhabi usually book one other subject in the same year. These are the Diploma courses our tutors cover alongside it, with what each one actually assesses and where the overlap helps.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Anatomy, physiology, energy systems, biomechanics and skill acquisition, plus a scientific investigation using human participants. Marks are lost on data-based questions read too quickly and on extended responses that describe a process without applying it to a named sporting example.

Biology

HL and SL

The nearest neighbour and the most common pairing. Respiration, circulation and homeostasis appear in both with different emphasis. A student taking both can revise once and answer twice, provided they learn which subject wants molecular detail and which wants applied performance.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Required alongside Biology by many medical and dentistry routes. Energy and equilibrium are the topics where our Abu Dhabi students most often stall, usually because multi-step calculations are set out in a way the marker cannot follow.

Psychology

HL and SL

Shares the skill-acquisition and motivation territory of SEHS, with far stricter demands on citing studies. Students taking both benefit from one tutor keeping the evidence standards consistent across their essays.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistical content maps directly onto what a SEHS investigation needs: sampling, correlation, significance and error. A student weak here produces data they cannot interpret, which is the most expensive kind of coursework problem to fix late.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route many Abu Dhabi medicine and engineering applicants are pushed towards. Whether it is the right choice should be decided against the stated requirement of the specific universities on the list, not against reputation.

Physics

HL and SL

Biomechanics in SEHS is simplified physics: force, levers, momentum and projectile motion. Students taking both find the SEHS treatment less mathematical and sometimes answer with more rigour than the command term asked for, which costs time rather than marks.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL under the current guide

The other small-cohort group 4 option in this emirate, and subject to the same scarcity of specialist teachers. Families comparing the two usually want to know which is lighter; the honest answer is that they are differently heavy.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Writing technique transfers directly into SEHS extended responses. A student who structures a paragraph well in English rarely loses structure marks in a science answer; one who does not, does.

Extended Essay

Core

A popular SEHS choice and a common stalling point. Support is process coaching: narrowing the question, checking the data can be gathered ethically from participants, and reading what the student has already written.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of SEHS support, all delivered one-to-one over live video with the student's own work on screen. The difference between them is what you are buying, not how good the teaching is.

Content and technique, weekly

A fixed hour each week spent half on whatever the school has just taught and half on marked practice questions. This is the route for the student who chose SEHS as a lighter science and found the papers were not lighter. Progress shows in the marked work rather than in a reassuring conversation.

  • One hour weekly in a slot set around training
  • Marked practice returned before the next session
  • A written note naming the weakness worked on
  • Content gaps logged and revisited rather than mentioned once

Scientific investigation review block

Six to eight hours bought as a unit and spread across the weeks the student is working. The tutor interrogates the research question, checks the method can be run with real participants and the equipment available, teaches the statistics and marks a practice version against the published criteria. Every word of the document is the student's.

  • Feasibility check on participants, consent and equipment
  • Statistics taught, then the student's own calculations checked
  • Criteria the draft has not yet addressed, named explicitly
  • A written change list the student acts on themselves

Paper technique sprint before the May session

Four to six weeks of two or three sessions a week, built entirely on marked past questions. The most expensive route per hour, because specialist availability in March and April is thin. It is the right purchase for a student whose content is sound and whose answers keep missing the command term.

  • Timed questions marked and returned within 24 hours
  • Data-based question drills, which carry the most recoverable marks
  • Extended responses rebuilt around applied sporting examples
  • Booked in the autumn, because April slots sell out first

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

What each part of the SEHS course actually demands

Parents are usually told SEHS is the easier group 4 subject and then surprised by the first marked paper. The content load genuinely is lighter than Biology. What is not lighter is the assessment style. The subject asks a student to read data from exercise physiology, interpret it in the language of energy systems or biomechanics, and apply it to a named sporting situation, all inside a command term that sets the shape of the answer.

The pattern in our Abu Dhabi caseload is consistent: students who train seriously in a sport arrive with intuition and lose marks on terminology, while students who chose the subject for its reputation arrive with neither. Both are fixable, but with different hours. The athlete needs writing structure and precise vocabulary. The other student needs the physiology taught properly before any paper technique will stick.

The table below sets out the parts of the course, what each genuinely tests, where marks go missing in this emirate, and what a session can do about it. It deliberately avoids publishing component weightings beyond the investigation, because the group 4 guides changed recently and schools in Abu Dhabi moved to them at different points. Your school's IB coordinator holds the current figures for your child's cohort, and those are the ones to plan against. Read the third column before the second: a parent who knows where the marks are going can judge a tutoring quote in a way a parent looking only at the syllabus cannot, and the losses listed there are the ones we see repeatedly in this emirate rather than a generic list copied from a subject guide.

Practical and laboratory skillsMeasurement, reliability and ethical handling of participantsConsent and control ignored until the write-upPlanning participants and controls before data collection
02

The scientific investigation, and the line a tutor does not cross

  • Design is where the hours pay back; repair work after data collection rarely does
  • Consent, control and participant safety belong in the plan, not the write-up
  • Short, repeatable protocols recruit participants more easily than demanding ones
  • Outdoor protocols need a heat plan if data collection runs into spring

The investigation carries about a fifth of the SEHS grade and nearly all of the anxiety. It is the one assessment in this subject that involves other human beings: a student measuring heart-rate recovery or reaction time needs willing participants, informed consent, a controlled protocol and a plan for what happens when somebody drops out in week three. Most of the damage we are asked to repair was done at the design stage, weeks before any data existed.

The boundary on help here is set by IB academic-honesty rules and it is not negotiable. The student chooses the question, designs the protocol, collects every measurement, performs the analysis and writes the document. A tutor asks hard questions about scope, confirms a method is repeatable and ethical, teaches the statistics, points at a criterion the student has not yet addressed, and marks a practice version so the gap is visible. A provider offering to supply a finished investigation is offering your child an expulsion risk.

Two practical Abu Dhabi points. Participants are easier to recruit than students think if the protocol is short and does not require maximal exertion, and school sports squads are an obvious and legitimate source once the teacher has agreed. Heat is the second: outdoor protocols designed in November behave differently in April, and a method that depends on a run outside is a method that can fail. We plan around both at the design stage rather than discovering them in the evaluation.

03

Why a SEHS specialist costs what it costs in Abu Dhabi

  • Single-class cohorts produce very few experienced teachers in any one emirate
  • Most of those teachers are employed full time and ethically barred from their own students
  • A Biology specialist covering SEHS is common and is not the same as a SEHS specialist
  • Live video widens the pool from one community to the whole subject

The specialist band quoted in this market, roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, is a scarcity price rather than a difficulty price. Three things create the scarcity. SEHS runs in a limited number of Abu Dhabi schools, usually as a single class; the teachers who know it are employed full time by those schools; and the subject is frequently taught by a Biology specialist covering it, which is workable in a classroom and less useful when a parent wants targeted investigation review.

Abu Dhabi adds a regulatory layer. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff describes teachers being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, with staff tutoring outside school hours expected to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. Either way, the person who knows your child's course best is unavailable to you privately.

That is the arithmetic behind online matching, and it is not a sales line. Insisting on someone who can drive to Al Raha by 7.30pm narrows the choice to people who live nearby and are free then. Accepting a live video session widens it to everyone who has taught the current guide. In a subject this thinly staffed in the emirate, that is the difference between a specialist and the nearest available science teacher.

04

What changes the number on an Abu Dhabi SEHS quote

Two families can be quoted AED 220 and AED 420 for the same subject in the same week, and almost all of the gap is explicable. The largest factor is timing: an autumn slot is a scheduling decision and an April slot is an auction. The second is inclusions. Marking takes a tutor roughly as long as teaching, so a provider returning a marked paper and a written note each week has built that into the figure, and one quoting AED 150 with nothing attached has not.

The third is the component. An hour of content teaching is ordinary work. An hour spent on an investigation that is late involves reading, marking and a difficult conversation about what can no longer be changed, which is why review work is sold as a block rather than by the hour. Level moves the total but not the rate: Higher Level needs more hours, not dearer ones.

The table below is the version worth having before you ring round. It names each driver, what it does to the figure in practice, why it exists, and what a parent can actually do about it. The last column is the useful one: several of these are within your control if you act in October rather than March. One driver parents often miss entirely is cover. A single independent tutor who falls ill in the fortnight before a coursework deadline leaves nobody behind them, and the cost of that gap does not appear in any hourly rate until it happens, which is why we would rather state the cover arrangement in the quote than be asked about it in April.

Sessions, training schedules and the Abu Dhabi calendar

SEHS students are, more often than in any other subject we tutor, students who train. That changes scheduling from an administrative question into the main one. A swimmer with early-morning pool sessions cannot take an 8.30pm slot twice a week and still function at school; a footballer training at a club three evenings a week has two usable evenings and one of them is already homework. The honest planning conversation happens before the first session, not after two cancellations.

The Abu Dhabi year adds its own shape. Ramadan commonly moves sessions to after Iftar, which we plan into the term rather than handling week by week. School examination weeks are better paused than pushed through. The competitive sport calendar has its own peaks, and race and event weekends on Yas Island make Friday scheduling unreliable for families on that side of the city. None of this is unusual; it simply needs to be in the diary from October.

The table sets out the slot patterns that actually work, by student type, with the trade-off each one carries. It is the conversation we have on the phone, written down. Families who pick a pattern and hold it lose fewer sessions across a term than families who book flexibly and reschedule, which matters more than it sounds: a missed session in DP2 is rarely recovered, it is simply gone. The other reason to fix a pattern early is that specialist tutors in this subject hold a small number of slots, and a family who reschedules repeatedly eventually loses the slot to a family who does not.

Is the tutor permitted to teach privately in the UAE?

  • Ask directly whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free and valid for two years; a quoted fee is a warning sign
  • No published fine schedule exists, so treat any quoted penalty figure as unverified
  • Verify the official route at mohre.gov.ae rather than taking an agency's word

This is a question any parent can ask and should. Private tutoring in the country is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through its smart app, website and e-services system. Anybody quoting you a permit fee has invented it.

Eligibility is wider than most parents expect. It includes teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No schedule of amounts has been published, so a specific penalty figure circulating online is unverified and this page will not repeat one.

One distinction matters in practice: an operation with premises and staff in the emirate is a different legal entity from an individual tutor and needs its own permit from the relevant authority. An individual teaching online from home does not become a training institute. And to be plain about ourselves, IB Gram is not approved, endorsed or certified by ADEK, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or any examination board. Any provider claiming such status about themselves should be asked for the permit number, and a provider who cannot produce one has told you something useful.

07

SEHS, university routes and UAE equivalency

  • Check SEHS acceptance against each university's own published requirement
  • Medicine and dentistry routes generally expect Biology and Chemistry
  • British-track equivalency counts five subjects at grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • No verified IB points threshold exists for equivalency, so we publish none

The question behind most SEHS enquiries from Abu Dhabi families is whether the subject closes doors. It depends entirely on the destination, and it should be checked against the published entry requirements of the specific universities on the list rather than against a reputation. Many sports science, physiotherapy and exercise physiology degrees accept it directly and welcome it. Medicine and dentistry routes generally expect Biology and Chemistry, and a student taking SEHS instead of Biology should know that before Year 12 rather than during Year 13.

UAE certificate equivalency is a separate process and belongs to the Ministry of Education, not to a tutoring provider. For the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the American track, English proficiency is evidenced by a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, and mathematics by at least 450 in SAT Math.

No IB points threshold for equivalency has been verified for this project, so none is published here. Check the current requirement on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly, and treat any agency that quotes you a specific IB figure with scepticism until they show the source. Nobody needs tutoring in order to obtain equivalency; it is an administrative process about certificates, and framing it as urgent is a sales tactic rather than a fact.

08

Online, in-home or group: what the premium buys in this city

  • Online specialist: AED 150-400 an hour, no travel inside the figure
  • In-home visit: AED 180-500 an hour, with the drive inside the rate
  • Centre group class: cheaper per student, little use for coursework
  • School support sessions: no extra cost, no choice of teacher

In-home tutoring is a real market in Abu Dhabi and families who want it should know what they are paying for. Published in-home rates run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against about AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The difference is not teaching quality. It is the drive from wherever the tutor lives to wherever you live, at the hour the traffic is worst, plus the student they cannot teach while in the car.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, and saying so on the page is better than letting a family find out after a deposit. Home visits are a service we provide only in India. For UAE families every session is one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own work shared on screen and marked copies returned afterwards. For a subject taught through graphs, past questions and a coursework document, very little is added by physical presence.

Group classes at a tuition centre are the third option and are genuinely cheaper per student. They suit revision of shared content and are close to useless for an investigation, because the one thing your child needs looked at is the one thing nobody in the room shares. School-run support sessions are the fourth and cost nothing extra, but offer no choice of teacher. Each of these is the right answer for some families; we would rather set them out than pretend there is only one.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities, training schedules and when a session can start

For this subject the practical question is rarely where a family lives but when the student gets home from training. These are the communities our Abu Dhabi SEHS students come from and the scheduling reality each one brings.

Al Bateen

Short school runs and close to several long-established schools, so a 5pm start is realistic for students who are not training. Those who train at a club in the Zayed Sports City area usually need 8pm instead.

Khalifa City

The largest cluster of our Abu Dhabi Diploma caseload. The drive back from training on the island pushes sessions late, and a fixed weekly slot held from October matters more here than a lower hourly rate.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

Heavy after-school commitments and a long mainland commute. Families in this corridor book the latest slots we run and value a tutor who will take a session at 8.30pm in term time.

Yas Island

Sports and event infrastructure on the doorstep, and traffic that becomes unpredictable on race and concert weekends. We schedule investigation reviews mid-week here rather than at weekends.

Saadiyat Island

Short commutes and a concentration of students training in swimming and tennis. The most common pattern is an early evening session in the off-season and a late one once the competitive calendar starts.

Al Mushrif

Central and school-dense, with many households running two or three children through different year groups. Separate hours work better than a shared slot once one of them reaches DP2 coursework deadlines.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Outer mainland communities where an in-home visit means a long drive each way, so the online rate wins on arithmetic before any argument about specialism.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

A large residential catchment with a wider local tutoring market, but very few people who have taught a Diploma group 4 subject. This is where online matching changes the available choice most sharply.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Island and Corniche schools

Established Diploma cohorts where group 4 option blocks are set early in Year 11. Whether SEHS runs in a given year depends on numbers, so confirm with the school before planning a subject choice around it.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the training schedule and the deadline

For this subject the training diary matters as much as the level. A short message naming the school, the level and whether the scientific investigation has been chosen lets us say honestly which slots exist and what a realistic plan costs.

  2. 02

A written quote per 60 minutes

One figure, stated inclusions, no joining fee and no package requirement. The quote names what marking is included and the cancellation rule. If no SEHS specialist is free in your slot, we say so rather than offering a general science tutor at a specialist rate.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson with the tutor who would teach

The student brings their own marked work and spends the hour on it. Afterwards you receive a written view of where marks are going and how many hours a sensible plan needs. A wrong match is changed rather than defended.

  4. 04

A fixed slot that survives the sport calendar

The slot is set around training, fixtures and school examination weeks, with a standing alternative agreed in advance for fixture season. During Ramadan sessions usually move to after Iftar, planned at the start of the term rather than week by week.

  5. 05

Marked work and a written note every week

A note naming what was practised, what was set and what the marked paper showed. Across a term those notes turn a vague worry about a science grade into a specific list of components and command terms to work on.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

A specialist, not the nearest science teacher

SEHS cohorts in this emirate are small and often taught by a Biology specialist covering the subject. Online delivery means your choice is among tutors who have taught the current guide, rather than among those free to drive to your community by 7.30pm.

Scheduling designed around training

Half our Abu Dhabi SEHS students train seriously. Slots are built around pool sessions, club evenings and fixture weekends, with a standing alternative for the weeks fixtures move, because a missed DP2 session is rarely recovered.

The investigation stays the student's work

The student chooses the question, runs the protocol, analyses the data and writes every word. A tutor questions scope, checks the method is ethical and repeatable, teaches the statistics and marks a practice version. We will not hand back a rewritten document.

Figures that can be traced

Every AED band on this page is attributed to the provider or rate survey that published it, read in October 2026. Where a number cannot be verified, including any penalty for tutoring without a permit, we leave it out and say why.

Honest about delivery and about ourselves

Every UAE session is one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi. There is no UAE office, no local branch, and no claim of approval by ADEK, the Ministry of Education or any examination board.

No promises about grades

Nobody can guarantee a mark, and a provider who offers to is telling you about their sales process rather than your child. What an hour a week offers is a marked paper, a named weakness and a specific thing to practise before the next one.

Student and parent reviews

What students and parents say about working with IB Gram

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What is the going rate for a SEHS tutor working with Abu Dhabi students?+

Specialist Diploma rates quoted in this market run from roughly AED 200 to AED 450 an hour, read in October 2026. Below about AED 150 you are generally buying a non-specialist working from a textbook rather than the current subject guide. Above AED 500 you are paying a reputation premium that should be evidenced. The figure reflects scarcity rather than difficulty: few teachers in the emirate have taught this subject. IB Gram quotes per 60 minutes in writing after a free trial lesson, with marking and a written session note inside the rate.

Is Sports Exercise and Health Science really a lighter group 4 choice?+

The content load is lighter than Biology and the mathematics is lighter than Physics, so the reputation is not baseless. The assessment style is not light at all. Students must read data from exercise physiology precisely, apply it to named sporting situations and obey the command term, and they must design and report an investigation involving human participants. In our Abu Dhabi caseload the first marked paper is where the surprise usually lands. It is a different kind of demanding rather than an easier subject.

How do I find out whether my child's Abu Dhabi school is running SEHS this year?+

Ask the IB coordinator directly, and ask two things: whether the subject is running for your child's cohort and at which level. Group 4 option blocks in this emirate depend on numbers, and a subject can appear on the sheet one year and not the next. We do not publish a list of which school teaches what, because such a list goes out of date within a year and a parent relying on it plans around a course their child cannot take. The school is the only reliable source.

Can a tutor help design an investigation that uses other students as participants?+

Yes, within strict limits. A tutor can question whether the research question is narrow enough, confirm the protocol is repeatable, check that consent and participant safety are planned rather than improvised, and teach the statistics the data will need. The student recruits the participants, runs every trial, records every measurement, performs the analysis and writes the document. Nothing is handed back rewritten. School squads are a legitimate participant source once the teacher has agreed, and short protocols recruit far more easily than demanding ones.

How many hours does an Abu Dhabi SEHS student usually need before the May session?+

Two patterns are common in our caseload. A weekly hour through DP1 term two and DP2 comes to roughly fifty hours across the two years and costs less per mark gained. A compressed plan is a six to eight hour investigation block plus fifteen to twenty hours of paper technique in the final term. Students starting in February of DP2 use more hours for less movement, because content gaps and coursework pressure arrive together. These are our own observations rather than a published standard.

My daughter trains six mornings a week. Can sessions realistically fit?+

They can, but the plan has to be built around the training rather than squeezed beside it. The pattern that works for early-morning swimmers and runners is one weekend morning session plus one weekday evening, with work set between them so the week is not empty. Late twice-weekly slots after evening training look fine on paper and produce tired, unproductive hours. We would rather agree a realistic two-slot pattern in October and hold it than book four slots and lose two every month.

Does my child need Biology alongside SEHS for a medical degree?+

Most medicine and dentistry routes expect Biology and Chemistry, and SEHS is generally not accepted in place of Biology for them. Many sports science, physiotherapy and exercise physiology degrees accept it directly and value it. The decision should be made against the published entry requirements of the specific universities on your child's list, checked on their own admissions pages, and ideally before the Year 12 option sheet is signed rather than during Year 13 when changing a subject is difficult.

Why is a SEHS tutor harder to find in Abu Dhabi than a Biology tutor?+

Supply. The subject runs in a limited number of schools in the emirate, usually as one class in a year group, so very few teachers have taught it. Those who have are mostly employed full time. Press reporting on ADEK's professional-ethics rules describes school staff being barred from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, which removes the obvious candidate. Verify that wording against ADEK's own policy document. The practical result is a short local list and a waiting period, which is what the rate reflects.

Do the data-based questions actually carry recoverable marks?+

They are the most recoverable marks in the subject. The common failure is describing a trend without quoting a value, a unit or a comparison, which scores a fraction of what the student knows. The fix is mechanical: quote the evidence, then interpret it, then link it to the physiology. A term of marked practice usually moves this measurably, and it is the first thing we drill with a student whose content knowledge is sound but whose paper marks are not. No tutor can promise a grade, but this is technique rather than talent.

Should we pay for an investigation block or a term of weekly sessions?+

If the investigation is unchosen or newly started, the block is the better purchase: hours spent narrowing a question in November remove several hours of repair in March. If the content itself is shaky, weekly sessions first and the block later works out cheaper, because an investigation written on weak physiology needs both fixed anyway. Families who buy the block after data collection has finished are paying specialist rates for damage limitation, which is the most expensive version of this subject.

Does the heat in Abu Dhabi affect what protocols are workable?+

It affects outdoor protocols significantly. A method designed in November that requires participants to run outside behaves differently in March and April, and data collected across both is not comparable. We raise this at the design stage, because the alternative is discovering it in the evaluation section, where it becomes a limitation the student has to explain rather than a problem they avoided. Indoor protocols using school facilities are usually the safer design for a student collecting data into spring.

Can one tutor take both SEHS and Biology for the same student?+

Often yes, and it can save time rather than only money. Respiration, circulation and homeostasis appear in both syllabuses with different emphasis, and one tutor can stop a student answering a SEHS question with molecular Biology detail the command term never asked for. The rate is per hour rather than per subject, so two subjects in one hour means less time on each. In DP2, with an investigation deadline approaching, separate hours are usually the better arrangement.

What does an in-home SEHS tutor in Abu Dhabi charge?+

Published in-home rates in this market run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The premium pays for travel, fuel and the hour the tutor cannot teach anyone else. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visits are a service we provide only in India. For a subject taught through graphs, marked past questions and a coursework document, presence in the room adds very little to the teaching.

What happens if no SEHS specialist is free in the slot we need?+

We tell you, rather than offering a general science tutor at a specialist rate. In practice there are three honest options: take a different slot that a specialist does have, start with a Biology specialist for the physiology content while waiting for a SEHS slot to open, or wait. Which one makes sense depends on how close the deadline is and whether the problem is content or technique. Availability in March and April is the tightest of the year, which is the argument for holding a slot in the autumn.

How should I compare two SEHS tutoring quotes from Abu Dhabi providers?+

Convert both into cost per marked, documented hour. Ask whether the rate is per 60 minutes or per lesson and how long a lesson runs; whether marking of set work is included and whether feedback is written; what happens in May if the tutor becomes unavailable; and which subject guide and cohort the tutor last taught. Then request the cancellation rule in writing. Most of the apparent gap in this market closes once both quotes answer the same five questions.

Book the slot before the calendar decides for you

If you are looking for an IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science tutor in Abu Dhabi, the useful first step is a free trial lesson with the tutor who would actually teach. Your child brings their own marked work, and afterwards you get a written view of where the marks are going, how many hours a realistic plan needs, and a rate per 60 minutes with inclusions stated. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around training and fixtures. Specialist slots in this subject are scarce in the emirate and April availability is the tightest of the year, so autumn is the sensible time to hold one.
