IB MYP Physics Tutor in Abu Dhabi

An IB MYP physics tutor in Abu Dhabi sits between two prices: more than a general science tutor, less than a Diploma HL specialist. This page gives you the published AED bands, names whoever published each one, and shows the three things that move a quote in this emirate. Lessons run live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time, so a student in Khalifa City can start at five o'clock without a car journey across the bridge. You also get the four Sciences criteria your child is actually marked against, with physics examples.

  • Market rates quoted in AED, with the publisher of each figure named
  • Sciences criteria A to D explained with physics examples, not slogans
  • Lessons delivered live online, one to one, on Gulf Standard Time
  • Tutors review your child's own work and never produce assessed material

What an MYP physics tutor in Abu Dhabi costs, and what sets the number

Start with the only honest answer: the published range for private tutoring in the UAE runs from AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 an hour for a named premium tutor, and MYP physics sits in the lower middle of that spread. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 and IB tutoring from AED 200. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 and exam-year specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. BartyED quotes AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Those are their figures, read in October 2026, not ours.

MYP physics is cheaper per hour than Diploma physics for a structural reason, not a marketing one. There is no external examination hanging over MYP 1 to 4, no Internal Assessment to supervise, and the assessment is criterion-referenced coursework set by your child's own school. A tutor working in MYP 4 is not preparing a candidate for a terminal paper; they are moving criterion levels on tasks the subject teacher has written. That is skilled work, and it is less specialised work than coaching a Paper 3 option at Higher Level, so the market prices it lower.

What pushes an Abu Dhabi quote up is not the emirate's cost of living. It is three things. First, discrete versus integrated: a tutor asked to cover physics as a separate MYP 5 course is being asked for subject depth, and depth costs more than general science coverage. Second, criterion B and C work: designing a controlled investigation and processing data properly takes longer to teach than recalling definitions, so a term aimed at those criteria needs more hours than a term aimed at criterion A. Third, timing. A request that lands two weeks before an end-of-unit task competes with every other family in the same school for the same evening slot, and scarce evening slots are the only part of this market that behaves like a commodity.

The second cost nobody quotes you is unseen preparation. The MYP does not publish a content syllabus for physics. The IB Sciences guide sets out key concepts, related concepts, global contexts and the four assessment criteria; your child's school then writes its own units and its own tasks. So before lesson one a tutor has to read the unit planner, the task sheet, the criterion rubric and the last marked piece of work. Providers handle that differently: some absorb it, some bill it, some skip it and then teach the wrong thing for a fortnight. Ask which, in writing, before you pay anything.

Lessons from IB Gram are delivered live online, one to one, over video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; home visits are a service we run only in India. For a physics family that is the cheaper and the better arrangement at the same time, because the screen is where the work already lives. Graphs get drawn on a shared whiteboard, a photographed lab book is annotated in real time, and a logger-recorded data set can be opened and reprocessed in front of the student instead of being described from memory.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Abu Dhabi families usually arrive on this page in MYP 3 or MYP 4, when Sciences splits into recognisable physics content and the report card suddenly reads 4, 5, 3, 5 instead of a percentage. Here is where the Middle Years Programme sits either side of that moment, and what the physics workload looks like in each phase.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Five years in which Sciences is one subject group rather than three subjects. In MYP 1 to 3 most Abu Dhabi schools teach integrated Sciences, so physics appears as units on forces, energy and waves alongside chemistry and biology content. In MYP 4 and 5 many schools let students take discrete physics. Assessment is against four criteria, each marked out of eight, set and marked internally by the school.

In this emirate the schools licensed by ADEK publish criterion levels on their reports, and parents routinely see four numbers with no percentage anywhere. ADEK also inspects these schools and publishes ratings, so a weak Sciences department usually appears in the inspection narrative before it appears in your child's grade. A physics tutor here reads the school's own unit planner, because no two Abu Dhabi MYP schools teach the same physics in the same term.

DPAges 16-19 · DP 1-2

Diploma Programme

The two years after MYP 5, where physics becomes Standard or Higher Level with external papers and an Internal Assessment. The jump that catches students is quantitative: DP physics assumes fluent algebra, confident unit work and uncertainty handling that the MYP introduces but does not drill. Hourly rates for Diploma physics support run visibly higher than MYP rates in every published UAE price list.

Abu Dhabi students choosing physics at Higher Level after MYP 5 are the ones who benefit most from MYP money spent early. Nothing about MYP physics is externally examined, so a thin MYP 4 and 5 leaves no trace on a transcript and a large hole in DP 1. Families who spend on criterion B and C skills in MYP 4 typically buy fewer catch-up hours in DP 1, which is the clearest return-on-cost argument this page can make.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early years to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

The programme that feeds the MYP in continuum schools. Science in the PYP is inquiry-led and not graded on criteria, so there is no physics mark to compare. What carries forward is measurement, recording and the habit of explaining a result rather than stating it, all of which reappear in MYP criterion C.

Several Abu Dhabi schools run the full IB continuum, which means a child can move from PYP 5 into MYP 1 without changing campus. Parents of those children rarely need paid physics support, and we say so plainly rather than selling it. The sensible spend at this stage, if any, is on number fluency, because unit conversion and rearranging a formula are where MYP 3 physics first goes wrong.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

A physics request in the MYP is almost never only physics. Sciences is a single subject group, maths sits underneath every calculation, and the criteria are shared across the group. These are the courses Abu Dhabi families most often book alongside or instead of physics, with what each one actually assesses.

Sciences: the physics strand

MYP 1-5, integrated or discrete

Forces and motion, energy transfer, waves, electricity and magnetism, taught through the school's own units. Marks are lost less on recall than on rearranging a relationship, converting a unit and reading a gradient off a graph with its units attached.

Sciences: the chemistry strand

MYP 1-5

Particle model, bonding, reactions and quantitative work. Shares criteria C and D with physics, so a student who processes data badly in chemistry is almost always processing it badly in physics, and one set of sessions can fix both.

Sciences: the biology strand

MYP 1-5

Cells, systems, genetics and ecology. Criterion B investigation design is identical in structure to physics, which is why a tutor who teaches variables and controls well in biology transfers straight into a physics practical.

Integrated Sciences

MYP 1-3

The single course most Abu Dhabi MYP schools run for the first three years. One teacher, one grade, three sciences inside it. A physics problem at this stage usually shows up as a low criterion A on one unit and a solid level on the next.

Mathematics (Standard)

MYP 1-5

Number, algebra, geometry and statistics. Rearranging a formula, handling indices and plotting a line of best fit are maths skills marked inside physics, so weak standard maths caps a physics level regardless of how well the concept is understood.

Extended Mathematics

MYP 4-5

The faster route for students heading to Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Covers algebraic manipulation and functions at a depth that makes DP physics readable. Often the better purchase for a student whose physics problem is arithmetic, not physics.

Design

MYP 1-5

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, evaluating. The criteria mirror the Sciences investigation cycle closely enough that a student who can plan a Design project can usually plan a physics investigation once the vocabulary is swapped.

Individuals and Societies

MYP 1-5

Investigation, source handling and critical thinking. Shares criterion D ground with Sciences, where students must discuss the impacts of science on people and the environment, and that is the criterion Abu Dhabi students most often leave half-written.

Language and Literature

MYP 1-5

Analysis, organisation, text production and language use. Relevant to physics because criterion D asks for a written discussion, and a student who cannot structure a paragraph loses science levels for writing reasons.

Interdisciplinary units

MYP 1-5

Separately assessed units combining two subject groups, often Sciences with Individuals and Societies in Abu Dhabi schools. They carry their own criteria and their own grade, and parents are frequently surprised to find a second mark on the report with no obvious lesson behind it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Abu Dhabi families buy MYP physics support, with what each costs in hours rather than in marketing. All three are delivered live online, one to one, over video, on Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

One fifty-minute session a week, held at the same time, following your school's own unit sequence. This is the arrangement that moves criterion levels, because it gives a tutor time to set a task, mark it, and teach into what the marking showed. A term of it is roughly twelve sessions.

  • Tutor reads the unit planner and the criterion rubric before lesson one
  • A short written note after each session saying which strand was worked on
  • One marked practice task per unit, returned with criterion levels against the rubric
  • The same tutor throughout, so the second term starts where the first finished

Pre-task intensive block

Three or four sessions in the fortnight before an end-of-unit Sciences assessment. Narrower and more expensive per outcome than weekly work, because it can only polish what is already there. Useful for a student whose understanding is sound and whose exam technique is not.

  • Session one diagnoses on a past task from the same unit
  • Sessions two and three drill the specific strand that lost levels last time
  • Final session works through timing, units and significant figures under the clock
  • Honest limit: four sessions will not build mechanics from nothing

Investigation clinic for criteria B and C

A short run of sessions aimed only at planning a controlled investigation and processing its data. Variables, method, repeats, tables, graphs with units, and an evaluation that names a real limitation. Bought separately because it is the single highest-value purchase in MYP Sciences and transfers to chemistry and biology unchanged.

  • Student brings the task sheet; the tutor never writes a word of the submission
  • Planning worked through on a shared whiteboard, then written up by the student alone
  • Data processing taught on the student's own logger or stopwatch readings
  • Evaluation coached by question, so the limitations named are the student's own

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

There is no MYP physics syllabus to buy, and that shapes the first invoice

Parents arriving from a CBSE, Cambridge or American background look for the MYP physics syllabus and cannot find it, because it does not exist. The IB publishes a Sciences subject guide that sets out key concepts, related concepts, global contexts and the four assessment criteria. It does not prescribe a content list. Your child's school writes the units, chooses the contexts, sets the tasks and marks them against the published criteria. Two MYP 4 students at two Abu Dhabi schools can both be studying physics and be studying completely different physics.

That single fact changes what you are buying. A tutor who walks in with a generic Year 9 physics scheme of work will teach content your child's school is not assessing this term, and the criterion levels will not move. A tutor who reads the unit planner first will know that this term's unit is marked on criteria B and C through a controlled investigation on energy transfer, and will spend the hours on variables and graph work instead of on definitions. The difference between those two tutors is not talent. It is forty minutes of reading before the first lesson.

So ask every provider in Abu Dhabi the same three questions before paying. Who reads the unit planner, and is that time charged? What happens if the school changes the task mid-unit? And will I get a written note after each session saying which criterion was worked on? A provider that cannot answer those is selling hours, not physics. The table below lists what we ask an Abu Dhabi family to send before the first session, who normally holds each document, and roughly how long the unseen preparation takes.

What physics support costs in Abu Dhabi, and who published each figure

Three of the six most visible tutoring pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. So here is the AED picture, assembled from what providers themselves publish and read in October 2026. Treat every row as that provider's claim about its own service, not as a quote from IB Gram, and treat the spread as information about market segmentation rather than about quality.

The budget online band sits at AED 33 to 65 an hour and is populated by university students and generalist tutors. For MYP physics that band can work for a student who needs company while doing homework and cannot work for a student whose criterion B planning is weak, because planning an investigation is a taught skill that a generalist has usually never been marked on. The qualified subject band at AED 150 to 300 is where most MYP Sciences work genuinely lives. Above that, AED 200 to 450 and beyond buys Diploma and A-Level specialism that an MYP 3 student does not need and should not be sold.

In-home visiting rates are the outlier. Bestimate's Dubai table puts home visits at AED 180 to 350 an hour, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500, with monthly in-home packages seen at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. A meaningful part of that premium is the tutor's travel, which buys your child nothing. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, so that premium does not appear in our model at all; the one-to-one hour runs live online instead, and the money that would have paid for a drive across Khalifa City pays for a Sciences specialist instead of whoever lives nearby.

Where the physics money goes: criteria B and C, not criterion A

MYP Sciences is marked on four criteria, each out of eight, and your child's single 1-7 subject grade is produced by adding those four levels and converting the total through a boundary table the IB publishes in its programme documentation. Ask your MYP coordinator for the version your school applies; it is not something to take from a tutoring page. What matters for spending decisions is that the four criteria are not equally expensive to teach.

Criterion A, knowing and understanding, is the cheap one. It rewards explaining scientific knowledge, applying it to solve problems and analysing information. A student who revises will move on criterion A, and a tutor adds least here. Criterion B, inquiring and designing, and criterion C, processing and evaluating, are where hours disappear and where levels stall for years. These ask a thirteen-year-old to write a testable research question, identify and control variables, justify a method, process raw data into something interpretable, present it correctly and then evaluate the method honestly. None of that is physics knowledge. All of it is taught.

Criterion D, reflecting on the impacts of science, is the one Abu Dhabi students most often leave half-finished, because it is a writing task hiding inside a science course. It asks for the application of science to address a specific problem, the implications of using science, and accurate use of scientific language. A physics student who can calculate the efficiency of a solar panel and cannot discuss the consequences of deploying it loses two levels for reasons that have nothing to do with physics. The table sets out where a Year 9 physics student in this emirate typically loses ground, criterion by criterion, and how many sessions it usually takes to move one level.

Online lessons against a visiting tutor, with Abu Dhabi travel costed honestly

The comparison most Abu Dhabi families are actually making is not between tutors. It is between a visiting tutor and a screen. So compare them on the things that differ: the published rate, what the travel does to a weekday evening, how deep the tutor pool goes for a specific subject, and what is included when the hour ends.

Travel is not a small factor in this emirate. A tutor living on the island and teaching in Khalifa City at five o'clock is committing to the bridge in both directions, which in practice means the family pays for ninety minutes of the tutor's time to receive fifty minutes of physics. Rearrange the session to six o'clock and the traffic improves but the student is tired. Cancel at short notice because a sibling has a fixture and the tutor has still spent the drive. None of those costs appear on an advertised hourly rate, and all of them are real.

Depth of pool is the argument that matters more. MYP physics taught as a discrete MYP 5 course is a narrow specialism. The number of tutors who can confidently teach it and mark against criterion C is small anywhere, and the number who can do that and live within a twenty-minute drive of Al Raha Gardens is smaller still. Online delivery replaces the geographic filter with a subject filter. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, which is precisely why the match can be made on the physics rather than on the postcode.

Equations, units and gradients: the line items that repeat every single term

Across MYP physics requests from this emirate the same three technical failures recur, regardless of school or year group. The first is algebraic rearrangement. A student who understands that resistance relates voltage to current, and who cannot make current the subject of the equation without guessing, will lose criterion A marks on a topic they genuinely understand. The fix is not physics teaching. It is twenty minutes a week of rearrangement practice until it stops being a thinking task.

The second is units, and specifically the conversions that MYP tasks quietly require: centimetres into metres before a density calculation, grams into kilograms before anything involving mass, minutes into seconds before a speed. Students lose levels not for failing to convert but for converting inconsistently inside the same calculation, which produces an answer that is numerically wrong and dimensionally meaningless. A tutor who insists on units written at every line of working, every time, removes a whole class of lost marks without teaching any new content.

The third is graph work, which is where criterion C is won and lost. Plotting points is rarely the problem. The problems are choosing a scale that uses the paper, drawing a line of best fit rather than joining the dots, calculating a gradient from two points on the line rather than two data points, and then stating what the gradient physically means with its units attached. A gradient of 9.8 is not an answer; 9.8 metres per second squared, interpreted as the acceleration of free fall, is. That distinction is worth two criterion C levels and takes about three sessions to make automatic.

None of these three are advanced physics. They are the mechanical skills that MYP tasks assume and MYP lessons rarely have time to drill. If a household has budget for one term of physics support and nothing more, spending it on rearrangement, units and gradients will return more criterion levels than spending it on the content of the current unit.

06

The Abu Dhabi evening, and the hour you are actually buying

An Abu Dhabi weekday leaves a narrow window for serious physics. School buses on the island routes return students between half past two and half past three; buses serving Khalifa City, Al Raha and the mainland communities regularly land later. Add a prayer time, a sibling's activity and a meal, and the first realistic start for focused work is somewhere between four and six o'clock depending on which community you live in. The window closes earlier than parents expect, because a tired fourteen-year-old does not plan an investigation well at eight in the evening.

This is where online delivery stops being a compromise and starts being the reason the session happens at all. A fifty-minute slot at five o'clock from a bedroom desk is attainable four weeks out of four. The same slot with a tutor driving in from the island is attainable until the first accident on the bridge. Fixed weekly timing also matters more than most families realise: a session at an unpredictable hour becomes the thing that gets cancelled, and cancelled sessions are how a term of planned criterion work turns into four random hours.

Ramadan reorganises everything, and it is worth planning for rather than pausing through. School days shorten, energy in the afternoon drops, and post-iftar evenings are genuinely productive for many students. Sessions can be moved to a late slot for the month and moved back afterwards. Summer is the opposite case: with no school deadlines, it is the only period in the year when criterion B and C skills can be taught slowly, out of context, without a task breathing down the student's neck. Families who buy their investigation clinic in July rather than in February get noticeably more out of the same hours.

07

Who may legally charge you for private physics lessons in this emirate

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the position is clearer than most tutoring pages admit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and it is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page, 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. Anyone offering private tutoring without that permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here or anywhere else on this site.

Eligibility is broad. Teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen can all apply. That breadth is why the AED 33 to 65 band exists: a university student with a permit is operating entirely legally at that price. It is also why asking about the permit tells you about legality, not about teaching quality. Both questions need asking separately.

Abu Dhabi adds a condition worth knowing. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's own code of conduct has been reported as barring the same arrangement. Verify the current wording against ADEK's published policy before relying on it, but treat the principle as settled: your child's own Sciences teacher is not the right person to hire privately, however convenient it looks. No part of our model depends on that arrangement.

Five years of MYP Sciences, and the terms when physics money is worth spending

Spending the same amount in different years produces very different returns. In MYP 1 and 2, Sciences is integrated, the units are short and the criteria are being introduced rather than enforced. Paid physics support here is usually premature. The exception is a student who cannot handle number work, because every subsequent physics problem will be an arithmetic problem wearing a physics costume, and that is worth fixing at eleven rather than at fifteen.

MYP 3 is where the first honest signal arrives. Criterion levels start separating, and a pattern of 5, 3, 3, 4 across the four criteria tells you something specific: knowledge is adequate, investigation and data work are not. A term of targeted criterion B and C support at this point costs the same as a term of general science help and does considerably more, because the skill it builds is used in every Sciences unit for the next three years and again throughout the Diploma.

MYP 4 and 5 are the expensive years, and the ones where families most often overpay for the wrong thing. Here Sciences may split into discrete physics, tasks get longer, and MYP 5 adds the Personal Project and, in some Abu Dhabi schools, on-screen eAssessment. The temptation is to buy an intensive block two weeks before a task. The arithmetic argues against it: three sessions of polish on top of weak criterion C will shift one level, while twelve weekly sessions spread across a term will usually shift two or three and leave the student able to do it unaided. If the budget is one term, buy the term early rather than buying a panic fortnight late.

Where we tutor

Where Abu Dhabi MYP physics families sit, and what that does to a session time

Delivery is online, so none of these notes are about travel distance for a tutor. They are about the clock in your household: when school ends, when the driver gets home, and when a fifty-minute physics session can realistically start without the student arriving at it exhausted.

Al Reem Island

Island-side bus runs land many MYP students home by half past three. Al Reem families book the earliest slots on this page, which are also the easiest to get at short notice before an end-of-unit task.

Khalifa City

Buses to the island and back make four o'clock unreliable for Khalifa City MYP 4 students. A five o'clock physics session with the lab book open, scanned before the lesson, works better than a rushed four o'clock.

Masdar City

Families here often have a parent working in energy or engineering, and the physics requests we get from Masdar City lean towards extension rather than remediation: a level 6 student who wants level 7 criterion D writing on energy.

Al Bateen

Short school runs and a cluster of long-established island schools. Al Bateen requests tend to arrive mid-term, triggered by a single marked Sciences task rather than a whole-report conversation.

Al Raha Gardens

A villa community feeding the Al Raha and Khalifa City schools. Two-child bookings are common here, usually one MYP student and one younger sibling, and the physics hour is the one the household protects.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Longer commutes and later arrivals home. Sessions from six o'clock onwards are the norm, and a weekend morning block is often the only time a full investigation write-up can be worked through properly.

Yas Island

Newer schools, newer MYP cohorts, and parents who have not seen a criterion-level report before. The first physics session for a Yas Island family is often spent reading the report rather than teaching mechanics.

Shakhbout City

Mainland villas with mixed school destinations across the island and Khalifa City. Scheduling here is set by the driver's return, so a fixed weekly slot matters more than the exact hour chosen.

The longest-established international cohort in the emirate, and the one where MYP physics requests most often concern extension rather than rescue. Programme offerings change year to year, so check the current offer on the school's own site or on the ADEK school listing before assuming a campus runs the MYP.

  • Al Bateen Academy
  • American Community School of Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Repton School Abu Dhabi

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Yas Island

The corridor that produces most of our MYP Sciences enquiries, partly because it holds the largest concentration of continuum schools and partly because the school-run clock here pushes families towards evening online sessions. Students we support attend schools in this corridor; no affiliation is implied by the listing.

  • Raha International School
  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy - Abu Dhabi
  • Reach British School
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Yasmina British Academy

Mainland: Mussafah, Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shakhbout City

Larger year groups, more variation in how Sciences is taught, and the longest gap between school ending and a student being ready to work. Physics requests from this cluster cluster around end-of-unit tasks and the MYP 4 subject-choice conversation.

  • Al Dhafra Private Schools
  • GEMS Cambridge International School - Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi Indian School
  • Bright Riders School
  • The Pearl Academy

Schools are named here as context for the Abu Dhabi education market only. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any school named on this page, and programme offerings should be confirmed with the school or on ADEK's own listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the three documents

Email the current Sciences unit planner, the most recent marked task with the teacher's comments, and the latest report card showing criterion levels. Those three tell a tutor more in ten minutes than a phone call does in an hour, and they determine whether the sessions aim at criterion A or at criteria B and C.

  2. 02

    Trial lesson at no charge

One fifty-minute session with an MYP Sciences specialist, at no charge, one per family, with no card details taken and nothing to cancel afterwards. The tutor works on a real task from your school's current unit, not a demonstration topic, so what you see is what the paid sessions look like.

  3. 03

Agree the target and the price in writing

Before any payment you receive which criterion the term is aimed at, how many sessions, the rate per session in AED, whether preparation time is charged, and the reschedule terms. Anything a provider will not put in writing is something you will argue about in week six.

  4. 04

    Run the weekly cycle

Teach, set a task, mark it against the published criterion rubric, teach into the result. A short written note after each session records which criterion strand was worked on and what the student should practise before the next one, so a parent can follow the work without being a physics teacher.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks on evidence

Compare marked tasks from week one and week six, strand by strand, and decide whether to continue, change tutor or stop. If the evidence shows no movement we say so and look at why, which is sometimes a tutoring problem and sometimes a timetable problem.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices you can check

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the month it was read. No price here is presented as an IB Gram price list, and none of it is invented. You can open the sources and verify the bands yourself before deciding what is reasonable.

Matched on physics, not on postcode

Because delivery is live online across the whole emirate, the filter is which tutor has taught MYP Sciences criterion C well, not which tutor lives near Al Raha Gardens. For a narrow specialism like discrete MYP 5 physics that difference is the difference between a specialist and whoever was available.

The school's own unit, not a generic scheme

The MYP prescribes no physics content, so a tutor who ignores your school's unit planner teaches the wrong material. Ours read the planner, the task sheet and the rubric before the first lesson, and the sessions follow the sequence your child's teacher is actually assessing.

A clear academic-honesty line

Tutors teach, question, review and give feedback on the student's own work. They do not supply submissions, and they do not touch the wording of a Personal Project report or an investigation write-up. That boundary is stated to the student in the first session, because it protects them and nobody else benefits from blurring it.

Evidence a non-scientist can read

Criterion levels, a marked task from week one against a marked task from week six, and a one-paragraph note after each session. No dashboards, no scores we invented. A parent with no physics background can see which strand moved and which did not.

An honest account of availability

If no MYP Sciences specialist is free in your preferred slot we tell you the earliest one that is, rather than filling the hour with a generalist. For discrete MYP 5 physics that sometimes means waiting a week, and we would rather say so than sell the wrong tutor.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does an MYP Sciences tutor charge per hour for physics in Abu Dhabi?+

Published UAE rates read in October 2026 put budget online tutoring at AED 33 to 65 an hour, qualified subject tutors at AED 150 to 300, exam-level specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more, and premium named tutors as high as AED 650. MYP physics generally sits in the AED 150 to 300 band, below Diploma physics, because the assessment is internally set coursework rather than external papers. Those figures are the providers' own published claims, not an IB Gram price list. For our own pricing, ask on the consultation; the bands above are here so you can judge any quote you receive against the market.

Is there an MYP physics syllabus I can buy for my child?+

No, and this surprises most families. The IB publishes a Sciences subject guide covering key concepts, related concepts, global contexts and the four assessment criteria, but it prescribes no content list. Your child's Abu Dhabi school writes its own units, chooses its own contexts and sets its own tasks. That is why a tutor needs your school's unit planner rather than a textbook: two MYP 4 students at two schools in the same emirate can be studying genuinely different physics in the same term. Ask your MYP coordinator for the current planner, and ask any prospective tutor whether they will read it.

My son is in MYP 3 and his report says Sciences, not physics. Why?+

Because in the MYP, Sciences is one subject group rather than three subjects. Most Abu Dhabi schools teach it as an integrated course in MYP 1 to 3, so physics content appears as units on forces, energy or electricity alongside chemistry and biology units, all marked against the same four criteria and reported as a single Sciences grade. From MYP 4 many schools offer discrete physics. If you want to know how the physics units specifically went, ask for the criterion levels from each unit rather than the overall grade, which averages the lot and hides exactly what you are looking for.

How many hours does a criterion B investigation task usually take to teach?+

Moving one level on criterion B generally takes four to eight sessions, which is more than most parents expect and less than the whole term. The reason is that inquiring and designing is a composite skill: writing a testable question, identifying and controlling variables, justifying a range and a number of repeats, and planning something that could actually be carried out. A student rarely fails all four at once, so the first session is diagnostic. Criterion C, processing and evaluating, runs on a similar timescale. Criterion A moves faster, in two to four sessions, because revision does much of the work.

Why would a first invoice include preparation time?+

Because a competent first lesson requires reading. The unit planner takes twenty to forty minutes, the task sheet and criterion rubric fifteen to thirty, the last marked task twenty to thirty, and the report card around fifteen. Providers handle that cost in different ways: some absorb it into the hourly rate, some bill it separately and openly, and some skip it entirely and then teach material your school is not assessing. None of those is dishonest except the last. Ask which model you are buying before you pay, and get the answer in writing with the rest of the terms.

Is a visiting physics tutor in Abu Dhabi worth the extra AED per hour?+

The published premium for in-home tutoring in this market runs from AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online work, and a real share of that gap is travel. An island-based tutor teaching in Khalifa City at five o'clock spends forty to eighty minutes on the road each way. Your child receives none of that time. The bigger cost is the narrowing of the pool: insisting on a short drive means choosing from tutors who live nearby rather than tutors who teach MYP Sciences well. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi for exactly that reason.

Does my child need a laboratory to do MYP physics investigations properly?+

For the school's assessed practical work, no, because that happens in the school laboratory with the subject teacher. What a tutor works on is everything around the apparatus: the research question, the variables, the method, the data table, the graph and the evaluation. Those are paper and screen tasks, and they are where the criterion levels are won. Where home practicals are genuinely useful, physics is unusually generous: a ruler, a stopwatch, a phone sensor app and a kitchen scale cover motion, period and density work convincingly enough to practise the full inquiry cycle.

How do online physics lessons handle practical data and graph work?+

The student photographs or scans the lab book and sends it before the session, and it goes on the shared screen where the tutor annotates it live. Data gets typed into a spreadsheet and replotted during the lesson, so a student watches a badly scaled axis become a usable graph rather than being told about it. Gradients are calculated on the screen with units attached at every step. In practice this is closer to how physics is actually done than a tutor reading over a shoulder at a kitchen table, because the working is visible to both people at once and is saved afterwards.

What does physics help cost if we only want support before one end-of-unit test?+

A pre-task block is usually three or four sessions in the fortnight before the assessment, so at market rates for a qualified subject tutor you are looking at the equivalent of three to four hours rather than a term. It is the most expensive way to buy criterion levels, because polish can only improve what already exists. It works well for a student whose understanding is sound and whose technique under time pressure is not. It will not build mechanics from nothing in two weeks, and any provider suggesting otherwise is selling you something that does not exist.

Can one tutor cover physics, chemistry and biology inside MYP Sciences?+

In MYP 1 to 3, usually yes, and often that is the better arrangement. Integrated Sciences is marked against four criteria that are identical across the three strands, so a tutor who teaches investigation design and data processing well improves all three at once. From MYP 4, where schools offer discrete courses, the content depth starts to matter and a physics specialist pulls ahead for physics. A practical rule: buy one tutor for criteria B and C across Sciences, and buy subject depth separately once your child is sitting a discrete physics course.

Does a private physics tutor in Abu Dhabi need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Teachers, public and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and students aged fifteen to eighteen can all apply. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any specific amount you read elsewhere with suspicion. Ask a prospective tutor directly whether they hold one.

My daughter is strong at maths but weak at physics. Will tutoring fix that?+

Usually yes, and faster than the reverse case, because the harder half is already in place. A student who is fluent in algebra and poor at physics is typically losing marks on modelling rather than on calculation: choosing which relationship applies, deciding what the question is actually asking, and interpreting an answer physically. Those are teachable in a handful of sessions. The reverse profile, confident with concepts and shaky with rearrangement, takes longer, because every physics problem then carries an arithmetic risk. Send a marked task and the diagnosis takes one session rather than guesswork.

Should we wait until MYP 5 before paying for physics support?+

Waiting is usually the more expensive choice. MYP 3 is where criterion levels first separate clearly, and a pattern like 5, 3, 3, 4 tells you knowledge is fine and investigation work is not. Fixing that at thirteen costs the same per hour as fixing it at fifteen and buys three more years of use, because criteria B and C reappear in every Sciences unit and again throughout the Diploma. MYP 5 is also the busiest year, with the Personal Project and on-screen components in some Abu Dhabi schools competing for the same evenings. Early is cheaper here.

Do quoted MYP physics tutoring rates in Abu Dhabi include VAT?+

Treat it as unresolved until the provider states it. We do not publish a position on the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation we are not going to approximate. What you should insist on is simpler: ask whether the AED figure you have been quoted is the amount that will be charged, and get that confirmed in writing alongside the reschedule terms and the cancellation window. A quote that becomes a different number on the invoice is a commercial problem regardless of how the tax question is answered.

How do we fit physics sessions around the Abu Dhabi school run and Ramadan?+

School buses on the island routes typically return students between half past two and half past three, while Khalifa City, Al Raha and mainland runs land later, so realistic start times range from four o'clock to six depending on your community. A fixed weekly slot survives better than a flexible one. During Ramadan, shorter school days and low afternoon energy make post-iftar sessions genuinely productive, and the slot can move for the month and move back afterwards. Summer is the best window for criterion B and C work, because the skills can be taught without a task deadline pressing.

Will a tutor come to our villa in Abu Dhabi for physics lessons?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, and home visits are a service we run only in India. Every UAE lesson is one to one, live over video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. For physics specifically that is an advantage rather than a concession: the lab book is annotated on a shared screen, data is replotted live, and the match is made on who teaches MYP Sciences criterion C well rather than on who lives within a short drive of your community. Anyone promising a tutor at an Abu Dhabi address is describing a different service.

Start with the numbers, then with one marked task

If you have read this far you already know more about MYP physics pricing in this emirate than most of the pages ranking above it. The next step is small: send the current Sciences unit planner, the last marked task with the teacher's comments, and the report card showing criterion levels. A specialist will read the three, tell you in plain language which criterion is actually costing your child levels, and run one fifty-minute session at no charge on a real task from your school's own unit. After that you will have a written note, a quoted rate in AED and a decision to make, rather than a sales conversation.
