IB Home Tutor in Al Taawun

Most families who have already paid for an IB home tutor in Al Taawun do not ask what tutoring costs. They ask why the last arrangement produced so little. This page answers that: the seven ways Diploma tutoring money disappears, and the audit that tells you which one is happening. IB Gram matches Sharjah Diploma families with subject specialists teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

  • An audit you can run on any existing arrangement, in twenty minutes
  • Component specialists rather than general Diploma tutors
  • A stopping condition agreed before the first session
  • Free trial lesson judged on diagnosis, not on how it felt

IB & IGCSE in Al Taawun

The second-time question

Al Taawun sits at the Sharjah end of the Al Mamzar lagoon, towers facing the water with the Dubai boundary a few minutes west and Al Khan immediately south. It is a settled, dense residential district, and a high proportion of the Diploma families who contact us from here have hired a tutor before. Their question is not what it costs. It is why the last one made so little difference.

That is a better question than the one most tutoring pages answer, and it has specific answers. Diploma tutoring money disappears in a small number of recognisable ways, and almost none of them involve a bad tutor. They involve a competent person doing work that was not the work required: explaining content when a component needed diagnosing, covering a syllabus when a deadline needed clearing, or providing company when a criterion needed reading.

The published rates set the stakes. Qualified online subject tutors advertise from roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB tuition from AED 200. Specialist IB and IGCSE tutors are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270, and premium named provision advertised as high as AED 650. In-home visits including travel run from about AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table placing the usual band at AED 180 to 350. A term of weekly sessions at the middle of those ranges is a serious sum, and a term is also what gets lost when the work is misaimed.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the country; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. On this corridor that removes the travel component from the rate and removes the waste that comes from a visit cut short by an unpredictable afternoon, which is one of the seven ways money disappears.

What follows is a taxonomy and a tool. The seven failure modes, with how each one looks from a parent's side, what it costs and the counter to it. An audit you can run in twenty minutes on an arrangement you already have, or on one being proposed. An honest section on why a likeable tutor and a pleasant session are not the product. And a method for deciding in advance when to stop, which is the single discipline that prevents the most expensive failure of all.

One note on dates. We publish no International Baccalaureate examination or results dates on these pages, because the board's own site cannot be verified by automated checking and a wrong date is something a parent acts on. UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session; your school's coordinator holds the internal calendar that governs the year.

At a glance

  • Most waste involves a competent tutor doing the wrong work
  • A term of weekly specialist sessions is a substantial commitment
  • The audit on this page takes twenty minutes and costs nothing
  • A stopping condition agreed in advance prevents the worst outcome
  • Teaching is online one-to-one; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The failure modes differ by stage, because what the student needs differs. These four are where money most often goes astray.

Pre-DPAges 16 · the break

The summer before the Diploma

Rarely bought, and when it is bought it is rarely wasted. Four to six sessions on fluency, extended writing and research-question design. The waste here is of a different kind: not spending at all, and then paying several times as much for emergency work in the first autumn.

In this district the move into a Diploma cohort often means a change of school and sometimes a crossing of the emirate boundary, which leaves coverage gaps nobody has mapped. One mapping session before term identifies them while they are still cheap to close.

DP1Ages 16-17 · DP1

Diploma Year 1

The commonest waste here is general weekly support bought because a report was disappointing, with no component named and no diagnosis made. It feels responsible and produces very little, because nothing in the first year is yet urgent enough to focus the work.

A Diploma student crossing the boundary daily has roughly two usable weekday evenings. A weekly session that occupies one of them without a specific target is not neutral; it displaces the independent practice that converts teaching into marks.

DP2Ages 17-18 · DP2

Diploma Year 2

The expensive year for waste as well as for spend. Sessions spread across three struggling subjects, content taught after coursework deadlines have passed, and blocks continued past the point where the evidence said stop. All three are avoidable with a prior agreement about priority and stopping.

Ask the school for its published internal deadline calendar in the autumn. Money spent teaching content in a subject whose coursework deadline has already passed is the clearest form of waste in the programme, and it is entirely preventable.

CoreAcross both Diploma years

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Waste here is usually in timing rather than in choice. Coaching bought when a draft is already late can only improve the draft; coaching bought when the research question is being chosen can change the ceiling. The same money, at two points in the year, buys very different outcomes.

Up to three points sit in the combination of these two components, and a low grade in either can create a failing condition. That makes the core the place where under-spending is itself a form of waste.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each entry names the component where money most often goes to the wrong work, because that is the practical form the waste takes.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Money is wasted re-teaching content to a student whose losses are unclaimed method credit, and on Paper 1 practice for a student whose real gap is the extended-problem paper. Both are visible in a marked script within one session.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The classic waste is a tutor defaulting to Analysis habits: algebraic drill for a student who loses marks by failing to interpret a figure in context, or who cannot drive a graphing calculator at speed.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Content revision bought for a student whose investigation is losing marks on the evaluation criterion. The criterion wants the effect of each limitation on the conclusion, and no amount of additional content addresses that.

Physics

HL and SL

Physics sessions bought for a mathematics problem. Many paper questions are rearrangement and logarithms in physical clothing, and where that is the gap a maths specialist fixes it faster and often more cheaply.

Biology

HL and SL

The heaviest content load, which makes it the subject where families most readily buy more coverage. Where the losses are command terms — an analysis question answered with a description — coverage is the wrong purchase entirely.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Essay practice bought for a student whose weakest component is the individual oral, which is usually the least rehearsed part of the Diploma and the cheapest place in this subject to gain marks.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Definition and diagram drill bought for a student who already knows both and does not evaluate. The internally assessed work also carries word limits, and writing to a limit is a planning skill rather than a content one.

Diploma core: TOK and the Extended Essay

Compulsory

The waste is timing. Coaching on a late draft improves the draft; coaching at the research-question stage changes what the component can reach. Same fee, very different return.

Second language subjects

Language acquisition and language A

Thin supply makes a near-match tempting here, and a near-match in a language subject is the most complete form of waste in this list: the fee and the term both go.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language streams

Carried alongside the Diploma under the federal position, in separate streams for Arab and non-Arab students, and excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts on the British track.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements designed around the failure modes rather than around a price list. Each has a built-in mechanism for noticing when it is not working.

Audit session before anything else

One session spent reading the student's marked work and existing drafts against the published criteria, producing a written statement of which component is losing marks and why. Bought by families who have already paid for tutoring that did not work, and the cheapest way to avoid repeating it.

  • Reads marked work and drafts against the actual criteria
  • Names the component and the criterion, not the subject
  • Produces a written diagnosis you keep regardless
  • Explicitly says where no paid support is needed

Component block with a stopping rule

Three or four sessions on one named component, with the evidence that would justify continuing and the evidence that would justify stopping both agreed before the first session. The stopping rule is the product as much as the teaching is.

  • One component at a time, never three in parallel
  • Criteria taught by letter with mark allocations named
  • Stopping condition written down in advance
  • Ends when the component is submitted or the rule triggers

Weekend-anchored arrangement

Built for the commute, because a mistimed slot is one of the seven failure modes. The main session at a weekend morning when the student is rested, with a short weekday slot used only to mark work and set the next piece.

  • Main session where concentration actually exists
  • Survives an unpredictable afternoon without rescheduling
  • Short midweek check-in rather than a second lesson
  • Protected hour available for core work

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Taawun

01

What is actually being wasted

  • The problem is rarely a bad tutor; it is misaimed work
  • Nobody established what was required before sessions began
  • Mismatch stays invisible while sessions remain pleasant
  • A term is the usual unit of loss, not a fee

An IB home tutor in Al Taawun, in the sense families here use the phrase, is a Diploma subject specialist working one-to-one with one student. IB Gram provides that over live video to Sharjah families and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. But the question most families in these towers arrive with is not about delivery. It is about why the previous arrangement achieved so little.

The answer is almost never that the tutor was bad. Teaching is a reasonably well-distributed skill and most people selling it can teach. The answer is usually that the work done was not the work required, and that nobody established what was required before the sessions started. A student loses marks on an evaluation criterion; a tutor revises content. A coursework deadline is three weeks away; a tutor works through the syllabus in order. A student cannot drive a graphing calculator; a tutor explains the mathematics.

That mismatch is invisible from the outside for a surprisingly long time. The sessions are pleasant, the student is engaged, homework gets done. What is absent is any evidence that the specific losses are closing, because nobody wrote down what the losses were. By the time a mock or an internal deadline exposes it, a term has gone.

Everything on this page is designed to make that mismatch visible early. The taxonomy below names the seven forms it takes. The audit after it is a twenty-minute test you can run on an arrangement you already have. And the stopping rule in the final sections is what turns the audit into a decision rather than a worry.

02

Seven ways Diploma tutoring money disappears

Each of these was observed repeatedly in families who came to us after a previous arrangement, and each has a cheap counter. They are listed in rough order of frequency rather than cost, although the last two are the most expensive.

The pattern across all seven is the same: a decision made without evidence, or a decision deferred until evidence arrived too late. The counters are correspondingly unglamorous — ask for marked work, name the component, agree a stopping rule, fix a time that holds. None of them require a better tutor; they require a better brief.

It is worth noticing which of the seven are the provider's responsibility and which are the family's. Placement into the wrong component and vagueness about coursework are ours. Buying before evidence exists, spreading across three subjects and continuing past the stopping point are usually the family's, and they are the three that cost most. That division is not an attempt to shift blame; it is where the leverage actually sits.

The table below is the version to keep. If an arrangement you are considering or already have contains two or more of these, it is likely to under-deliver whatever the hourly rate is.

A word about why these persist. None of the seven is anybody's deliberate choice, and several are produced by entirely reasonable instincts: a parent who buys quickly is responding to a disappointing report, a parent who funds three subjects is being fair between them, and a parent who keeps a likeable tutor is protecting a child's confidence. The failure modes survive because the honest alternative requires an awkward conversation at a point when nobody wants one. Writing the brief and the stopping rule down in advance is how a family avoids having to be unkind later.

03

The audit a parent can run in twenty minutes

This is a test rather than an argument, and it works on an arrangement you already have as well as on one being proposed. It needs no subject knowledge, which is the point: a parent should not have to understand Higher Level chemistry to tell whether chemistry is being taught usefully.

Ask your child six questions and look for specificity in the answers. What component are you working on with the tutor? Which criterion is costing you marks? How many marks does that criterion carry? What did you do differently in your last piece of work because of a session? What has the tutor refused to do with your draft? And what will you be able to do by the end of this block that you cannot do now?

A student in a well-aimed arrangement answers most of those in specifics, sometimes grudgingly. A student in a misaimed one answers in generalities: we go over the topics, he explains it well, it's helpful. Those are not complaints about the tutor and the student is not being evasive. They are evidence that nobody named a target, which is the diagnosis the audit exists to deliver.

Then ask yourself two questions. Can I name, in one sentence, what this block is supposed to change? And do I know what would make me stop? If either answer is no, the arrangement is at risk regardless of how good the teaching is, and the fix is a conversation rather than a different tutor.

04

Comfort is a real benefit and it is not the product

  • A likeable tutor is a real benefit, not the product bought
  • Comfort is why blocks are extended past their useful life
  • Test for change in the written work, not in the mood
  • Where support is the need, it is available far more cheaply

This section is the uncomfortable one. A likeable tutor who turns up, is patient with a tired teenager and makes a hard subject feel manageable is providing something genuinely valuable, particularly for a student under pressure in a six-subject programme. Families are right to want it and wrong to mistake it for the thing they are paying for.

The distinction matters because comfort is the reason blocks get extended past their useful life. A parent sees a child who is calmer about chemistry and concludes the money is working. A student who likes their tutor reports that sessions are helpful. Neither observation says anything about whether the evaluation criterion is still costing six marks, and that is the question the fee was meant to answer.

The practical test is whether anything in the student's written work has changed. Not their mood, not their confidence in conversation, but the work: a method line claimed, a limitation explained rather than listed, a figure interpreted in context, an essay planned to a word budget. Those are visible, and if none of them have appeared after four or five sessions, the arrangement is providing support rather than teaching.

Where comfort is genuinely the need — a student overwhelmed rather than behind — it is available more cheaply. Entry-level provision advertised in this market from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour supplies structure and company perfectly well. Paying specialist rates from AED 200 to AED 450 and above for reassurance is the most polite form of waste in this list, and the hardest to raise with a family who likes the person they have hired.

05

Group, centre or one-to-one for a Diploma student

  • Group provision can cover content; it cannot read one student's draft
  • Internally assessed components sit inside every Diploma subject
  • A tight budget is best split: group for content, one-to-one for components
  • A centre course adds a round trip at the worst hour of the day

Families here ask whether a cheaper format would have done, and for the Diploma specifically the answer is narrower than for IGCSE. The reason is where the marks sit.

A group class or a tuition centre course can retell a syllabus with structure, which helps a student who has fallen behind on content across a subject. For the examined papers that is a legitimate and cheaper purchase. What it cannot do is read one student's investigation against the published criteria, or test whether an Extended Essay research question can carry four thousand words. Those are one-to-one activities because they depend on one student's specific work.

Since internally assessed components sit inside every Diploma subject, and up to three points sit in the core, a family that uses only group provision is leaving the most improvable part of the grade untouched. The sensible combination, where budget is tight, is group or centre provision for content coverage and a small number of one-to-one sessions for the components. That is cheaper than weekly one-to-one across a subject and considerably more effective than group work alone.

On this corridor there is also a logistics argument. A centre course adds a round trip at exactly the hour the crossing is worst, which for a student already getting home after half past four is a meaningful cost in both time and energy. Where a centre option is chosen, a weekend timetable is worth seeking out for the same reason a weekend one-to-one session outperforms a weekday one here.

06

Deciding when to stop, before you start

  • Write the continuing and stopping conditions before session one
  • Papers: a second timed paper compared by topic
  • Coursework: a section lifted into a higher band against the criteria
  • The midpoint review becomes administrative rather than personal

The most expensive of the seven failure modes is continuing a block that is not working, and it is the one most easily prevented. The prevention is a sentence written before the first session: what evidence, by when, would justify continuing, and what evidence would justify stopping.

For a paper-based problem the standard is straightforward. A second timed paper at the midpoint, marked against the same criteria and compared with the first by topic. Movement in the areas the diagnosis named, not just in the total. For a coursework component it is a specific deliverable: a section lifted into a higher band against the same descriptors, or a research question narrowed into something answerable. For a technique problem, the student performing the specific task unaided.

Writing that down changes the conversation at the midpoint from a social one into an administrative one. Nobody has to decide whether they like the tutor; they have to read the evidence against a sentence everybody agreed to a month earlier. That is the only version of this decision that reliably gets made, because the alternative requires a parent to end an arrangement with somebody their child is fond of.

It also protects the provider from a different failure, which is being blamed for an outcome nobody defined. A block with a written target and a written stopping rule can succeed or fail honestly. A block with neither can only ever be continued, which is why so many of them are.

07

Permits, claims and the coursework boundary

  • The MoHRE permit is free for two years, so ask whether it is held
  • No provider here holds regulator or board approval, including us
  • Treat outcome-linked refund promises as marketing, not protection
  • The student writes every word of any submitted component

Three things to check before money moves, all of which are free and none of which depend on judging teaching quality.

The permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, free of charge, for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, any page quoting an amount has invented it. The code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

The claims. Refuse any guarantee of a grade, a points total or a university place. Refuse any claimed approval, accreditation or licence from the Sharjah Private Education Authority, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Ministry of Education or an examination board — IB Gram holds none and claims none. Refuse any school presented as a partner or client, any rating or satisfaction figure without the number, date and method behind it, and any outcome-linked refund promise, which in practice is a marketing device rather than an enforceable term.

The coursework boundary. A tutor teaches the skill a component assesses, explains the published criteria and what their command words require, tests whether a topic or research question can carry the work, questions the student about their own reasoning and gives feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor does not write, complete or rewrite any part of it. This region's market includes a provider advertising completed Internal Assessments for sale; that is academic malpractice, and the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller. We also do not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables.

Where we tutor

Al Taawun and the districts along the water

Geography matters here mainly because one of the seven failure modes is a session time that never worked. These are the districts and their arrival patterns.

Al Taawun

Towers along the corniche facing the Al Mamzar lagoon, with schools in two emirates in reach. Cross-border arrivals after 4.30pm make an afternoon slot unreliable, which is how arrangements here quietly decay.

Al Khan

Immediately south along the water, with the same commute profile and the same school mix. Families compare across the two districts and find the same answers.

Al Majaz

East along the lagoon, with a comparable split between local and cross-border schooling and the same preference for a fixed later slot.

Al Qasimia

Inland, where locally schooled children arrive earlier and an earlier session genuinely works. The one district here with real afternoon availability.

Al Nahda, Sharjah

The densest commuting belt on the boundary, with the latest arrivals. The district where a mistimed slot wastes the most money fastest.

Muwaileh and University City

Inland towards the campuses, with shorter runs and Diploma provision of its own. More weekday flexibility and therefore fewer missed sessions.

Dubai's Al Mamzar and Al Qusais

Across the lagoon and the boundary, where a share of these students are schooled. The crossing is short in distance and the least predictable part of the afternoon.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Taawun

Where Al Taawun students are typically placed, on both sides of the boundary. Worth asking each which Higher Level options actually ran last year, because a budget built around a subject that does not run is waste before it is spent.

  • American School of Creative Science
  • Wesgreen International School

Dubai schools reached across the lagoon

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us what the last arrangement did

If you have hired a tutor before, say what happened and why it stopped. That history is the most useful thing we receive, because it identifies which of the seven failure modes to design around rather than repeat.

  2. 02

Send marked work and any drafts

A recent marked paper, or the current state of a coursework component with the criteria the school has given. That is what makes the first session a diagnosis rather than an introduction, and it is free to obtain.

  3. 03

    Free trial, judged on diagnosis

Run by a specialist in that component, with the criteria open beside the work. Afterwards use the audit on this page: can your child name the component, the criterion and what they will change? If not, the match is wrong and we replace it.

  4. 04

Agree the target and the stopping rule

One sentence for each, written down before the first paid session. What this block is supposed to change, by when, and what evidence would mean ending it. That document is what stops the most expensive failure mode.

  5. 05

Review against the rule, not the relationship

At the midpoint the evidence is read against the sentence everybody agreed to. Continue, change or stop, and stopping is a normal outcome rather than a failure of goodwill on either side.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We name the failure modes

Seven specific ways Diploma tutoring money disappears, with the counters, including the three that are the provider's fault. A page that only argues tutoring is valuable is not much use to a family who has already paid for some.

An audit you can run without us

Six questions to your child and two to yourself, taking twenty minutes. It works on an arrangement you already have, and if it shows that the existing tutor is well aimed, the right outcome is to keep them.

A stopping rule written first

What evidence would justify ending the block, agreed before the first session. It turns the midpoint review from a social decision into an administrative one, which is the only way it reliably gets made.

Component specialists, not general tutors

Diploma marks sit substantially inside internally assessed components with published criteria. Reading one student's draft against those descriptors is the work, and it is not something a subject generalist does reliably.

Honest about cheaper alternatives

Where the need is structure and company, entry-level provision at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour supplies it. Where content coverage is the gap, a group course is cheaper. We will say so rather than selling a specialist hour.

Nothing claimed that cannot be shown

No regulator or board approval, no partner schools, no ratings, no statistics without number and method, no grade guarantees, no outcome-linked refunds and no production of assessed work.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Taawun: your questions answered

We paid for a Diploma tutor last year and saw no difference. What went wrong?+

Usually that the work done was not the work required, rather than that the tutor was poor. The common versions: content revised while a coursework criterion kept losing marks; a subject named but no component identified; sessions spread across three struggling subjects; or a block continued past the point the evidence said stop. Run the audit on this page — six questions to your child about component, criterion, marks and what they changed — and the version that applied to you is usually obvious within twenty minutes.

How do I tell whether sessions are aimed at the right thing?+

Ask your child what component they are working on and which criterion is costing marks. A well-aimed arrangement produces specifics: the investigation, the evaluation criterion, six marks, and a named habit they changed in their last piece of work. A misaimed one produces generalities: we go over the topics, he explains it well. Neither answer is a complaint about the tutor; the second is evidence that nobody set a target, which is a brief problem rather than a teaching problem.

Does IB Gram send a Diploma tutor to a tower in Al Taawun?+

No. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Teaching here is one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with the draft or paper on a shared screen. That removes the travel component from the rate and removes one of the seven failure modes on this page: a visit cut short or cancelled by an unpredictable afternoon on the crossing.

Our child likes the tutor but the grades have not moved. Is that worth keeping?+

It depends what you are buying. A likeable tutor who makes a hard subject feel manageable provides something real, particularly for a student under pressure in six subjects. But comfort is why blocks get extended past their useful life. Test for change in the written work rather than in the mood: a method line claimed, a limitation explained rather than listed, an essay planned to a word budget. If none of that has appeared in four or five sessions, you are buying support, which is available far more cheaply.

What is the single most expensive mistake in Diploma tutoring?+

Continuing a block that is not working, because the tutor is likeable and stopping feels like giving up on the child. It costs more than any hourly rate, and it is the easiest to prevent: write down before the first session what evidence by what date would justify continuing, and what would justify stopping. That turns the midpoint review into an administrative reading of evidence rather than a social decision nobody wants to make.

Should we fund all three subjects our DP2 child is struggling in?+

No. Spreading a limited number of sessions across three subjects in the second year reliably produces no visible movement in any of them, and it is one of the seven failure modes. Fund the one or two nearest a grade boundary, or where a coursework band can still be lifted, and deliberately leave the third for the term. A provider who accepts all three without discussing priority is taking an order rather than planning, and the result is predictable.

Would a group course at a centre have been cheaper and just as good?+

Cheaper, and good for one thing. A group course can retell a syllabus with structure, which helps a student behind on content for the examined papers. It cannot read your child's investigation against the published criteria or test whether an Extended Essay question can carry four thousand words, because those depend on one student's own work. Since internally assessed components sit inside every Diploma subject, group-only provision leaves the most improvable part of the grade untouched.

What should we ask a new tutor that we did not ask last time?+

Four things. Have you marked this specific component, and what are its criteria and mark allocations? What will you refuse to do with my child's draft? What is this block supposed to change, in one sentence? And what evidence would make you recommend stopping? The last question is the most revealing, because a provider who cannot describe a stopping condition is selling a subscription, and that is how the previous arrangement probably continued longer than it should have.

When is core coaching worth paying for, and when is it wasted?+

The same fee buys very different outcomes depending on timing. Coaching at the point a research question is being chosen can change what the component is capable of reaching, because a question that cannot carry four thousand words caps the essay however well it is written. Coaching on a draft that is already late can only improve that draft. Up to three points sit in the combination of Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, so under-spending early here is itself a form of waste.

How does a mistimed session time waste money on this corridor?+

Twice over. The fee goes, depending on cancellation terms, and the homework cycle breaks: work set at the previous session goes unmarked, so the next session is spent catching up and two weeks produce one week of progress. Worse, a student who sees a slot move twice stops treating it as fixed and stops preparing. Set the slot from measured arrival times across three ordinary weekdays and put the hardest work at the weekend, where the crossing is irrelevant.

Is a cheap tutor ever the right answer for a Diploma student?+

Where the need is structure rather than assessment, yes. Entry-level provision advertised in this market from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour supplies company and routine perfectly well, and for an overwhelmed student in a six-subject programme that can be exactly what is required. Where the marked work shows a criterion losing marks, it will not help, because reading a draft against band descriptors needs somebody who has marked the component. The marked work tells you which situation you are in.

Does a Diploma tutor working with a student in Al Taawun need a permit?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and its code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school.

Are money-back guarantees any protection against a wasted term?+

Very little. An outcome-linked refund requires published, enforceable terms and a provider willing to honour them, and in practice the conditions are narrow enough that the promise functions as marketing. It also returns only the fee, while the expensive loss in a wasted block is the term. We do not offer one. What protects a family instead is a free trial before commitment, a written target, a written stopping rule and a rematch mechanism if the match is wrong.

What should the first session with a new tutor produce?+

A written statement naming the component, the criterion or error type costing marks, and what the block will change. Not a reassurance that your child is capable, and not a plan to work through the syllabus from wherever the class has reached. Your child should be able to repeat the component and the criterion afterwards in their own words. If the first session produces none of that, the arrangement has already started down one of the seven failure modes on this page.

Run the audit before you buy anything else

Ask your child the six questions on this page, and ask yourself the two. If the answers are specific, keep whoever you have. If they are general, send us the marked work and any coursework drafts, tell us what the previous arrangement did, and we will name the component and the criterion, set a target and a stopping rule in writing, and arrange a free trial lesson with a specialist who has marked that component. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time for Diploma families across Al Taawun and the Sharjah lagoon districts.
