Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 Tutor in Sharjah

A Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 tutor in Sharjah is usually hired in a hurry, in the week the school adds a second maths subject to the timetable. This page starts where most parents start: with the number. It sets out what the Sharjah market charges by the month, what moves that figure in this emirate rather than in Dubai, and what a family gets for the money. Lessons here run live online, one to one, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

  • Monthly AED bands quoted with the source that published them
  • One subject specialist for both 0606 papers, not a general maths tutor
  • Lessons online over live video, scheduled around Sharjah school-run timings
  • A free trial lesson before any plan is agreed; no card required to book it

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

What 0606 adds to a Sharjah family's tutoring bill, and why

Most families in this emirate meet Additional Mathematics 0606 twice. The first time is a line on a Year 10 options sheet that nobody reads closely. The second is a parents' evening in Year 11, when a maths teacher says the words "she is coping with 0580 but 0606 is slipping", and a household that had budgeted for one maths subject discovers it has two. That is the moment this page is written for, and the first honest thing to say is that the second subject does not cost half as much to support as the first. It usually costs more per hour, because fewer people in the Sharjah market teach it.

The arithmetic is worth doing before the first phone call rather than after the third invoice. Published rates for a qualified subject tutor working online across the UAE sit at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors listing IGCSE support from AED 150. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level tutors are quoted at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table running to AED 450 plus for exam-year specialists. Those are market figures from the providers and the rate survey named, not an IB Gram price list. What this page does with them is translate them into the number a family actually pays, which is monthly.

Monthly is the unit that matters because 0606 is not a subject that responds to a single rescue session. It is a syllabus built on fourteen topic areas where almost every one depends on fluency with indices, surds and algebraic fractions established months earlier. A weekly hour across two terms is cheaper in total than a panic block in April and it produces a different outcome, which makes the monthly band the figure to compare between providers. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year work.

Sharjah complicates the picture in a way Dubai does not. A large share of households in Al Nahda, Al Majaz and Al Khan send children to campuses across the border in Dubai, so the school day ends later than the postcode suggests and the realistic start time for a weekday session drifts towards 18:00 or later. Meanwhile the pool of people in this emirate who have actually taught two full 0606 cohorts is small. Those two facts together are why an in-home maths tutor is quoted higher here than the mileage alone would justify, and why online delivery changes the price as well as the logistics.

So the page below is ordered as a cost argument. It prices a plan by the month, explains why a 0606 hour carries a premium over a 0580 hour, separates the travel component from the teaching component, lays out five ways to buy help from cheapest to dearest, shows which topics the money is actually spent on, and finishes with what a parent in this emirate can check for themselves before paying anyone. IB Gram delivers all of it as one-to-one online tuition over live video; home visits are a service we offer only in India, and no tutor will be sent to a Sharjah address.

At a glance

  • 0606 is graded A* to E, not A* to G — there is no safety net below E
  • Two written papers, two hours and 80 marks each, weighted 50% and 50%
  • No coursework and no practical component, so every mark is sat in the exam room
  • Fourteen topic areas, of which differentiation and integration carry the heaviest tutoring load
  • Market online rates AED 150-300 qualified, AED 200-450+ specialist (Unitors, TutorChase, Bestimate 2026)
  • Cambridge entries for the June series close in the spring, roughly four months before the first 0606 paper, so the tier and route are settled long before revision starts

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics

A second, separate Cambridge IGCSE taken alongside Extended Mathematics 0580 rather than instead of it. Two papers of two hours, 80 marks each, equally weighted, calculator permitted. Content covers functions, quadratics, indices and surds, polynomials, logarithms and exponentials, straight-line graphs, circular measure, trigonometry, permutations and combinations, series, two-dimensional vectors, and differentiation and integration. Graded A* to E only.

A minority of Sharjah timetables carry it. Where it appears it is usually offered to a single top set, often taught in fewer periods than 0580 gets, which is precisely why private support is bought for it more often per candidate than for any other Cambridge maths code in this emirate.

0580Ages 14-16 · Years 9-11

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, Extended tier

The compulsory maths qualification almost every Cambridge candidate in Sharjah sits. The Extended tier is the prerequisite in practice for Additional Mathematics, because 0606 assumes Extended algebra is already automatic rather than something to be reasoned out. Where a student is still working slowly through surd manipulation or algebraic fractions in 0580, that gap surfaces as a calculus problem a term later.

Support for 0580 and 0606 is often sold as two separate weekly hours in this market. It does not have to be. A single specialist hour that treats the 0580 algebra as the warm-up for the 0606 technique is both cheaper and more coherent, and that bundling decision is the single biggest lever a Sharjah family has over the monthly figure.

AS 9709Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge AS and A Level Mathematics

The qualification 0606 was designed to feed. Pure Mathematics 1 revisits differentiation, integration, circular measure, series and trigonometric identities at greater depth and with stricter notation. A student who has sat 0606 arrives having already met every one of those ideas once, which changes the first term of Year 12 from an introduction into a consolidation.

For Sharjah families planning a UK or Gulf engineering or economics route, this is where the 0606 spend is recouped. AS Mathematics 9709 preparation is substantially easier to resource locally than 0606 itself, so the expensive year is Year 11, not Year 12.

IB DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

The other common destination. Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level opens with function notation, transformations, sequences and series, then moves quickly into differentiation. None of that is new to a 0606 candidate. The adjustment is to the IB's command terms and to an internal assessment that has no equivalent in the Cambridge system.

Several Sharjah households switch board between Year 11 and Year 12, usually by moving to a Dubai Diploma campus. A 0606 grade travels well into that move; what does not travel is the assumption that the Cambridge exam technique will score in an IB paper, and that is worth one honest conversation before Year 12 starts.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0606 is fourteen topic areas, and tutoring money is not spent evenly across them. This is where the hours actually go, ordered roughly by how much private support a Sharjah candidate typically needs per topic.

Differentiation

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

The product, quotient and chain rules, stationary points, increasing and decreasing functions, rates of change and small increments. The single largest consumer of tutoring hours in the syllabus. Students usually acquire the rules quickly and then lose marks for a term because they cannot rewrite an expression into a differentiable form first.

Integration

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Indefinite and definite integration, area under a curve, kinematics applications. Marks are lost to omitted constants of integration, limits substituted in the wrong order, and the assumption that an area below the axis contributes positively. Usually the second-heaviest block of paid hours after differentiation.

Indices, surds and algebraic fractions

0606 prerequisite, assessed throughout

Not a glamorous topic area and not where parents expect to spend money, but the hidden tax on everything else. A student who cannot turn one over the square root of x into x to the power of minus a half will be unable to differentiate it, and the symptom presents as a calculus failure rather than an algebra one.

Trigonometry and trigonometric identities

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Identities, equations over a stated interval, amplitude and period, and graphs of the three principal functions. The recurring loss is finding one correct solution and stopping, when the question asks for all solutions in a given range. Easily diagnosed from a marked paper and relatively cheap to fix once seen.

Circular measure

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Radian measure, arc length, sector area and composite shapes. The degree-to-radian switch is where most of the damage happens, because a calculator left in degree mode produces an answer that looks plausible and scores nothing. Typically one or two sessions, not a term.

Functions and inverse functions

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Domain and range stated properly, composite functions, inverses, the modulus function and graph transformations. Notation is assessed here as strictly as method. Students who write a composite the wrong way round lose the marks even where the arithmetic that follows is sound.

Logarithmic and exponential functions

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Laws of logarithms, solving exponential equations, and linearising a relationship to find constants from a straight-line graph. The graph-linearising question is a reliable source of lost marks because it requires a student to decide what to plot before any calculation starts.

Series and binomial expansions

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Arithmetic and geometric progressions, sums to infinity, and the binomial expansion including the term-independent-of-x question. Often left until late in Year 11 and then crammed, which is the expensive way to learn it. Cheaper to take two early sessions in the autumn term.

Permutations and combinations

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Arrangements, selections, restrictions and the repeated-items case. Distinctive because success depends on reading precisely rather than on technique. A student who is strong at calculus can still score badly here, and the fix is a specific style of question practice rather than more teaching.

Vectors in two dimensions

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Position and displacement vectors, magnitude, unit vectors, and velocity problems involving relative motion. A compact topic area with a predictable question style, usually covered in one or two sessions once the notation is settled.

Quadratic functions, equations, inequalities and graphs

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

Completing the square, the discriminant, intersections of a line and a curve, and inequalities involving a modulus. The discriminant conditions are a frequent source of lost marks because students solve the equation rather than answering the question about the number of roots.

Factors of polynomials and simultaneous equations

0606 Paper 1 and Paper 2

The factor and remainder theorems, cubic factorisation, and simultaneous equations where one is non-linear. Mechanically straightforward and well taught in most Sharjah classrooms, so rarely worth buying separate hours for unless a marked paper shows otherwise.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways a Sharjah family buys 0606 support, priced differently and suited to different situations. All three run online, one to one, over live video.

Weekly hour, autumn to series

One scheduled hour a week from September or October through to the examination, following the school's own sequence a fortnight ahead of it. The cheapest route per unit of progress, because nothing is being re-taught from scratch and the calculus block is met before the school reaches it rather than after.

  • Lowest total cost across the year for a full-course candidate
  • Topic order set by the school's scheme of work, not a generic plan
  • Slot held in Gulf Standard Time, typically 18:00 or later for Dubai-campus families
  • Monthly comparison figure, not an hourly one, for weighing against other providers

Topic block, bought by the unit

Four to six sessions aimed at one topic area — most often differentiation and integration together, sometimes trigonometric identities or the series work. Bought when a marked paper shows the loss is concentrated rather than general. Higher per hour in most of this market, lower in total.

  • Starts from a marked school paper, not a diagnostic test sold separately
  • Fixed number of sessions agreed in advance, so the spend is bounded
  • Suits a strong candidate with one visible hole
  • Can be repeated later for a different topic without committing to a term

Pre-series intensive

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before the papers, built around timed past questions under exam conditions and the specific mark-losing habits a student has shown. The most expensive way to buy 0606 help per hour, and the one families end up in when the autumn hour was skipped.

  • Past questions sat to time, then marked against the published scheme
  • Targets exact-form answers, interval solutions and omitted constants
  • Schedulable around Ramadan timings, including post-Iftar slots
  • Bounded by the entry and examination dates, so availability tightens quickly

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

The bill nobody planned for when 0606 appeared on the timetable

A household supporting one Cambridge maths subject has a predictable cost. A household supporting two does not, because the second subject behaves differently in the market. Extended Mathematics 0580 is taught in every Cambridge school in the emirate, which means supply is deep, rates are competitive and a parent can choose on price. Additional Mathematics 0606 is taught in a minority of Sharjah timetables, often to one set, sometimes in fewer periods than 0580 receives. Supply is thin, and thin supply is what a premium is made of.

The practical consequence is that the first three quotes a parent collects for 0606 will come back wider apart than three quotes for 0580 would. One will be from the budget end of the market, where published online rates start around AED 45 to 65 an hour at EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya. One will be from a qualified subject tutor at AED 150 to 300. One will be from a specialist agency at AED 270 or above. Those are three different products, and the gap between them is not padding.

What turns that spread into a decision is knowing what a 0606 hour has to contain. It is not revision company. A student who can state the chain rule and still cannot differentiate a quotient involving a surd needs someone who recognises that the obstacle is index notation, not calculus, and who will spend twenty minutes on algebraic rewriting before touching a derivative. That diagnosis is what separates the AED 60 hour from the AED 270 hour, and it is diagnosable in a single trial lesson rather than guessable from a profile.

The rest of this page prices that choice out. It starts with the monthly figure, because the hourly rate is the number providers advertise and the monthly total is the number families actually live with.

02

What a 0606 plan costs by the month, not by the hour

Hourly rates are how this market advertises and monthly totals are how households budget, so the table below converts the published bands into the second form. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits.

Read the table as a comparison frame rather than a price list. Every figure in it is attributed to the provider or the rate survey that published it, and IB Gram's own arrangement is a free trial lesson followed by a plan agreed with the family — not a published tariff. The column that usually changes a decision is the last one, because the cheapest monthly figure and the cheapest route to a grade are frequently not the same row.

One number in the table deserves separate mention: the hours remaining. A family that starts a weekly hour in October has roughly thirty sessions before a June series. A family that starts in April has six. The April family will pay a higher hourly rate because intensive work is priced higher, buy fewer hours, and ask those hours to cover the whole calculus block. That is the most expensive version of this purchase available, and it is reached by waiting rather than by choosing.

For a Sharjah household running two Cambridge maths codes at once, the monthly figure is also where bundling shows up. Two separate weekly hours with two separate tutors is two monthly fees. One specialist hour that opens with the 0580 algebra a 0606 question will need is one fee, and in most cases the better lesson.

03

Why an hour of 0606 is priced above an hour of 0580

  • Thin local supply: a minority of Sharjah schools enter candidates at all
  • Opportunity cost: the same tutors can sell the hour at sixth-form rates
  • Marking load: exact-form and interval answers take real time to mark honestly
  • Negotiable: bundle with 0580, and book autumn inventory rather than April inventory

Parents reasonably expect two Cambridge maths codes to cost about the same to support. They do not, and the reasons are worth knowing because two of them are negotiable and one is not.

The reason that is not negotiable is the size of the teaching pool. Extended Mathematics is sat by almost every Cambridge candidate in the emirate, so anyone who has taught IGCSE maths has taught 0580. Additional Mathematics is an optional second subject offered by a minority of schools, so the set of people who have taken a cohort through both papers and seen where that cohort lost marks is far smaller. A Cambridge IGCSE maths tutor in Al Majaz is a straightforward search. A 0606 specialist in the same postcode frequently is not, and scarcity prices itself.

The second reason is that 0606 overlaps with AS-level content, which means the tutors who are genuinely comfortable with it are usually also teaching AS Mathematics 9709 or IB Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Those are higher-rate engagements. An hour sold to a 0606 candidate is an hour not sold at a sixth-form rate, and quotes reflect that. The third reason is preparation load: the two papers reward exact-form answers and complete solution sets over stated intervals, so a tutor who marks properly is spending time outside the session on work a parent never sees.

Two of those three are negotiable in practice. Bundling 0580 and 0606 into one weekly specialist hour reduces the total fee without reducing contact time on either, because the algebra one subject needs is the algebra the other is assessed on. And starting early converts specialist hours from scarce exam-season inventory into ordinary autumn-term inventory, which is a different price in every tutoring market there is.

04

The travel line: an in-home maths tutor in Sharjah against the same hour online

In-home tutoring is a real and legitimate market in this emirate and parents are right to ask about it. Published figures put an in-home one-to-one visit, travel included, at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. Set against a qualified online rate of AED 150 to 300, the difference is not a quality difference. It is a logistics charge, and the table below separates it out so a family can decide whether to pay it.

In Sharjah that charge buys something specific, and it is worth being precise about what. It buys a tutor physically present in the room, which helps a younger or less organised student stay on task. It costs three things: money, the tutor's travel window either side of the hour, and the available pool. A tutor who will drive to Tilal City at 17:30 on a Tuesday is selected from the people willing to make that drive, not from the people who have taught 0606 twice. For a niche syllabus code, that constraint is the whole argument.

The timing arithmetic is sharper here than almost anywhere else in the UAE. A family in Al Nahda whose children attend a Dubai campus often sees the bus arrive after 16:30. An in-home session booked for 17:00 on the corniche side of Al Khan starts late because the tutor is in the same traffic the bus was. By the time the hour genuinely begins it is 17:25, and the hour is billed from 17:00. Online, the same session starts when the student sits down.

IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we provide only in India, and no tutor will be sent to a Sharjah address. What a Sharjah family gets instead is access to the specialist rather than to whoever is within a twenty-minute drive, which on a subject taught by a handful of people in the emirate is the more valuable thing to be buying.

Cheapest first: five ways to buy 0606 help in this emirate

Most pages about tutoring costs start with the premium option and work down. This one goes the other way, because a family deciding how to spend AED 600 a month needs to know what the cheap options genuinely deliver before being shown what AED 1,800 adds. Three of the five rows below cost nothing or almost nothing, and at least one of them should be exhausted before any money changes hands.

The free options are real. Cambridge publishes the syllabus for 0606 on cambridgeinternational.org, which states exactly what is assessed in each topic area; reading it with a child for twenty minutes removes a surprising amount of anxiety and shows precisely which of the fourteen areas have not yet been taught. Most schools in this emirate run some form of maths support session, and the maths department will usually say, if asked directly, whether the problem is a topic gap or a pace problem. That answer determines which of the paid rows is appropriate and is worth more than the first paid session.

What the paid rows buy, in ascending order, is diagnosis. A budget tutor at the AED 45 to 150 band will answer the question a student brings. A qualified subject tutor at AED 150 to 300 will sequence teaching ahead of the school. A specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above will look at a marked paper, identify that the lost marks are index notation rather than calculus, and change what is taught. The price difference tracks that difference, and a trial lesson is how a parent tells which one they are actually being offered.

The row families most often get wrong is the group option. Small-group tuition at two to four students lowers the per-student rate, and for a well-taught subject with a broad cohort that trade is often sensible. For 0606 in Sharjah it rarely works, because the cohort is small, the students in it are at different points in the calculus, and assembling three candidates on the same syllabus code in the same week is harder than it sounds.

Where the money actually goes: the calculus block and the eight weeks around it

  • Expensive: differentiation and integration, and the index work underneath them
  • Mid-cost: trigonometric identities, logarithms and the graph-linearising question
  • Cheap: circular measure, vectors, factor and remainder theorem
  • Practice rather than teaching: permutations and combinations, binomial expansions

Across a full year of 0606 support, spending is not evenly distributed and should not be. A family that understands which weeks are expensive can plan the budget rather than react to it. In this syllabus the costly stretch is the eight to ten weeks in which differentiation and integration are taught, and the reason is that those weeks expose every earlier gap at once.

Here is the mechanism. Differentiation itself is a short list of rules that a capable Year 11 student can learn in two sessions. What takes ten weeks is the rewriting that has to happen first: turning a root into a fractional index, splitting a fraction into separate terms, recognising that a product has to be expanded before it can be differentiated term by term. All of that is 0580 Extended algebra. A student who has been reasoning it out slowly rather than performing it automatically will appear to have a calculus problem, and a tutor who treats the symptom will bill hours against the wrong topic.

That is why an 0606 calculus tutor online is worth paying more per hour than a general maths tutor, and why the trial lesson matters more than the profile. The question to listen for in that first session is not whether the tutor can differentiate — everyone can — but whether they ask the student to simplify before differentiating, and whether they notice the hesitation when the student does it. The tutors who do that convert a ten-week problem into a four-week one, and that is where the premium pays for itself.

The weeks either side of the block are cheaper and should be budgeted as such. Circular measure, vectors and the polynomial work are compact, well taught in most Sharjah classrooms, and rarely need more than a session each. Permutations and combinations needs question practice rather than teaching. Series needs two early sessions in the autumn so it is not being met for the first time in April. Planning around that shape is how a family spends AED 700 a month for eight months instead of AED 1,800 a month for three.

07

Paying twice: 0580 and 0606 in the same series, one tutor or two

A Sharjah candidate sitting Additional Mathematics is almost always sitting Extended Mathematics 0580 in the same series. That means four written papers in one subject area, and it raises the question most directly responsible for an inflated monthly figure: does the family buy two weekly hours from two tutors, or one from one?

The case for two is honest and occasionally correct. The papers differ in style, the 0580 Extended papers reward breadth and careful arithmetic across a wide syllabus while the 0606 papers reward technique and exact presentation, and a student genuinely behind on both may need separate time. Where a child is at risk of a grade 4 or 5 in 0580 rather than chasing an A in 0606, the two subjects have different problems and splitting them can be sensible.

The case for one is stronger for most families, and it is cheaper. The 0606 content assumes 0580 Extended algebra is automatic, so a well-built single hour uses the first fifteen minutes on the exact 0580 skills the 0606 work will need next, then spends the rest on the technique. The student gets both subjects taught by one person who can see which is causing the other to fail. The household pays one monthly fee. And the written work comes back marked by someone who knows what the student did last week, which is not true of two tutors who never speak to each other.

There is a scheduling argument as well, and in this emirate it carries weight. Two weekly sessions means two slots to protect in a week that already contains Arabic and Islamic education homework, a Dubai school run and, for many families, a bus that returns after 16:30. One slot survives a busy term. Two tend to become one anyway, usually the wrong one, with the fee still being paid for both.

08

What a Sharjah parent can verify before paying anyone

Almost everything in a tutoring pitch is unverifiable, and almost everything that matters is checkable. The table below is the short list of things a parent in this emirate can confirm independently, with where to confirm them. None of it takes more than an evening, and doing it before the first payment is the cheapest insurance available in this market.

Start with the permit position, because it is the one most providers are vague about. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered through MoHRE, whose service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, MoHRE lists a two-working-day completion time, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so any page quoting an amount is guessing. Because it is free, a tutor's permit costs a family nothing and should never appear as a line in a quote.

Next, the regulator. Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for the emirate's private schools. That is a school-level remit, not a tutoring one: SPEA does not set what a private tutor may charge, and no tutoring provider — IB Gram included — may describe itself as holding an approval or accreditation from SPEA, from the Ministry of Education or from Cambridge. IB Gram holds none of those, and a page claiming otherwise is the clearest warning sign in this SERP.

Finally, check the materials question, because it separates teaching from selling. Cambridge syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables are Cambridge's copyright material and are distributed through schools and the official site. A tutor refers to them, cites them and works from them; a provider that offers to supply a bundle of them as a download is telling you something about how it operates.

Does the 0606 spend pay? AS 9709, Maths AA HL and the equivalency count

  • Cambridge A Level route: the clearest payback, realised in the first term of Year 12
  • IB Diploma route: content transfers, exam technique does not
  • Five IGCSE subjects at E or grade 3 for the British equivalency track, Arabic and Islamic education excluded
  • Verify any equivalency requirement on moe.gov.ae before acting on it

The honest answer to whether an expensive Year 11 is worth it depends on where the student is going in Year 12, and for Sharjah families there are three realistic destinations. Each changes the calculation.

If the destination is Cambridge A Level Mathematics 9709, the return is direct and measurable in time. Pure Mathematics 1 revisits differentiation, integration, circular measure, series and trigonometric identities, with stricter notation and harder questions. A 0606 candidate has met every one of those ideas already, which turns the first term of Year 12 into consolidation rather than first contact. Families who skipped 0606 frequently buy that term back in paid support instead, which means the cost does not disappear — it moves.

If the destination is the IB Diploma, the return is real but partial. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level opens with functions, transformations, sequences and series and moves quickly into calculus, so the content advantage holds. What does not transfer is exam technique: the IB's command terms, its mark-scheme conventions and its internal assessment have no Cambridge equivalent. Budget for a short adjustment period in Year 12 rather than assuming the Cambridge habits will score.

If the destination is a UAE university and Ministry of Education equivalency, 0606 is a useful subject but not a required one, and this is where families should be careful with what they read. The British-track rule requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One competitor page ranking for these searches states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring provider performs or can promise, and nothing on this page should be read as implying that tutoring is needed to obtain it.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

What a 0606 session costs in practice depends on where in the emirate a family lives, because travel and school-run timing change both the price quoted and the hour available. These are the Sharjah communities this page is written for.

Al Nahda

Dense apartment blocks on the Dubai boundary, with a large share of children at Dubai campuses. The school bus often returns after 16:30, which pushes a weekday maths session to 18:00 and makes an online slot materially easier to hold than a visit.

Al Majaz and Al Qasba

Central, well served by schools, and the part of Sharjah where in-home tutoring is most actively marketed. That competition keeps quoted rates visible but does not remove the travel component, which is still built into every in-home figure.

Muwaileh and University City

Home to several Cambridge centres and to a university population from which cheaper tutoring supply is drawn. An Additional Maths tutor in Muwaileh is easier to find at the AED 45 to 150 budget end than at specialist level, which is the trade this page is about.

Aljada and Al Zahia

Newer master-planned communities with young families and a growing school count. Demand for 0606 specifically is thin here because the cohort is younger, so the realistic pool is emirate-wide rather than neighbourhood-level.

Al Khan and Al Taawun

Coastal, mixed housing, heavy commuter flow towards Dubai. Evening traffic on the corniche road is the practical reason an in-home session booked for 17:00 starts at 17:25, and that lost time is paid for at the full hourly rate.

Tilal City and Sharjah Garden City

Outlying villa communities where in-home quotes rise fastest, because a tutor is pricing an hour of teaching plus the better part of an hour each way. Online 0606 lessons in Sharjah remove that line from the invoice entirely.

Khor Fakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn

The east-coast exclaves, still under SPEA, and effectively outside any in-home tutoring market for a niche Cambridge code. Families here either travel for hours or work online, and the second option is the only one that scales.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

Sharjah Cambridge centres where 0606 appears on a timetable

Students we support in Sharjah attend British-curriculum and Cambridge campuses across the emirate. Whether Additional Mathematics is offered at all, and to which set, is a decision each campus makes for itself — the examinations officer at your child's own school is the only reliable source for the entry and the administrative zone that applies.

Dubai campuses attended from Al Nahda and Al Khan

A substantial number of Sharjah households run the IGCSE years at a Dubai campus. That places the school under KHDA rather than SPEA, changes the mandatory-subject requirements the school must implement, and can place the centre in a different Cambridge administrative zone from a Sharjah school a few kilometres away.

Where a 0606 candidate goes next

Sixth-form destinations matter to the cost question, because the value of a 0606 grade is realised in Year 12. These are campuses Sharjah families commonly move to for Cambridge A Level Mathematics or for the IB Diploma, and the reason an expensive Year 11 can be the cheaper decision overall.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked paper, not the report card

A school report says a grade. A marked 0606 paper says which topic area lost the marks and whether the cause was method, notation or algebra underneath. Photograph the most recent one and send it with the enquiry. It is the single thing that makes the first session useful rather than exploratory.

  2. 02

Take the free trial lesson and watch for one thing

The trial lesson is one hour, online, with no card required and no obligation. Watch whether the tutor asks the student to simplify an expression before differentiating it, and whether they notice any hesitation. That behaviour, not the profile, is what distinguishes a specialist from a competent generalist on this syllabus.

  3. 03

Agree the plan shape and the monthly figure

Decide between a weekly hour to the series, a bounded topic block or a pre-series intensive, and fix the number of sessions a month so the cost is known rather than accumulating. Ask whether 0580 can be folded into the same hour; for most candidates it can, and that is the largest single saving available.

  4. 04

Hold one slot, in Gulf Standard Time

Pick a time that survives a bus arriving after 16:30 and an evening containing Arabic and Islamic education homework. For most Sharjah families with children at Dubai campuses that means 18:00 or later. One protected slot a week outlasts two optimistic ones, and it is cheaper.

  5. 05

Review at week six against written work

Six sessions in, look at marked questions rather than impressions. Exact-form answers presented correctly, complete solution sets over a stated interval, constants of integration present. If those are moving, the plan is working. If they are not, change the tutor rather than adding hours to the same arrangement.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate bands on this page are attributed

Every AED figure here is traceable to the provider or the rate survey that published it — EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table. None of them is an IB Gram price. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars.

Subject-matched rather than distance-matched

Additional Mathematics is on a minority of Sharjah timetables, so a tutor chosen from those within driving distance of Tilal City or Kalba is chosen from a very short list. Online delivery removes geography from the selection and puts the choice back on who has taught both 0606 papers.

One hour can carry both maths codes

Most Sharjah 0606 candidates are also sitting 0580 Extended in the same series. Where the same specialist covers both, the algebra one subject needs becomes the warm-up for the other, the household pays one monthly fee, and the marked work is seen by someone who remembers last week.

What a tutor will and will not do is stated

A tutor teaches, marks, and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nobody here will produce assessed work for a student, and no Cambridge syllabus, past paper, mark scheme or grade-boundary table will be supplied as a download — those are the awarding body's to distribute, and schools already have them.

Scheduling that accounts for a Sharjah week

Slots are held in Gulf Standard Time around a school day that for many families ends in Dubai, and can shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. A session that survives the term is worth more than a session that looked convenient when it was booked in September.

No grade promises, in either direction

No tutor can guarantee a grade in a Cambridge examination and any page selling one should be read carefully. What can be shown is movement in marked written work week by week, which is the only honest evidence available before results day and the thing to ask any provider for.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

What should a Sharjah family budget per month for Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 support?+

Work from the monthly bands rather than the hourly ones. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts a weekly one-hour arrangement at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For 0606 specifically, most families land in the middle or upper band because the subject is taught by fewer people. Advertised packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are published market figures, not an IB Gram tariff; our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a plan agreed with you.

Is 0606 tutoring priced differently from 0580 tutoring in the Sharjah market?+

Usually yes, and by more than parents expect. Extended Mathematics 0580 is sat by almost every Cambridge candidate in the emirate, so supply is deep and rates are competitive. Additional Mathematics is an optional second subject carried by a minority of Sharjah timetables, so the pool of tutors who have taken a cohort through both papers is small. Scarcity shows up in the quote. The content also overlaps with AS-level work, so the tutors comfortable with it can often sell the same hour at sixth-form rates. Bundling both codes into one specialist hour is the most reliable way to bring the monthly total back down.

How much of an in-home rate in Sharjah is the drive rather than the teaching?+

A useful amount. Published in-home one-to-one rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate quoting AED 180 to 350 and independent tutors quoting AED 200 to 500. Qualified online rates sit at AED 150 to 300. The gap is largely movement, not teaching quality, and in outlying communities such as Tilal City or Sharjah Garden City it widens because a tutor is pricing the better part of an hour each way. There is a second cost that never appears on an invoice: a session booked for 17:00 in Al Khan traffic often starts at 17:25 and is still billed from 17:00.

Can we buy 0606 help by the topic instead of committing to a whole term?+

Yes, and for a strong candidate with one visible hole it is often the cheaper choice. A bounded block of four to six sessions aimed at a single topic area — most commonly differentiation and integration together — keeps the spend known and finishes. The condition is that the diagnosis has to be right before the block starts, which is why we ask for a marked school paper rather than selling a separate assessment. Where a marked paper shows losses spread across several topic areas, a block will not fix it and a weekly hour across the year costs less per mark gained.

Do tutoring providers in Sharjah quote per sixty minutes or per lesson for maths?+

Both conventions are in use, which makes advertised rates hard to compare. A rate quoted per lesson can mean 45, 50, 60 or 90 minutes, and a monthly package quoting a number of sessions tells you nothing until the session length is stated. Before comparing two quotes, get the session length in writing and convert both to a cost per sixty minutes of contact time. This is the most common reason a cheaper-looking package turns out to be dearer, and it costs nothing to check. Our sessions are stated as 60-minute hours and the monthly figure follows from the number agreed.

Does the AED figure quoted by a maths tutor include tax?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing, because practice varies and the published rates on this page are taken from competitor listings that do not consistently state it. The UAE VAT treatment of tuition is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority rather than for a tutoring page, so we will not characterise it here; the authority's own guidance is the place to confirm it. What we can say is that any figure we quote you for a plan is stated as the amount you pay, with nothing added at invoice, and that a provider unwilling to confirm the same in writing is telling you something useful.

Is a cheaper 0606 tutor at AED 60 an hour ever the right choice?+

Sometimes, and it is worth being honest about when. Budget online rates start around AED 45 to 65 an hour at EdFlik and from roughly AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya, and at that price a capable student who simply needs company while working through set problems may be well served. What the band does not reliably buy is diagnosis — recognising that a student's calculus failure is actually index notation, and changing what is taught as a result. If the problem is motivation or organisation, the cheap row works. If the problem is a prerequisite gap, it will consume months without finding it.

How many hours does a 0606 candidate in Sharjah usually need before the series?+

There is no single figure, but the shape is predictable. A weekly hour started in October gives roughly thirty sessions before a June series, which is enough to meet each topic area shortly before or alongside the school and to spend eight to ten of those weeks on differentiation and integration. Started in April, the same weekly pattern gives about six sessions, which is why families in that position buy intensives at a higher rate instead. The cost difference between those two routes is larger than the cost difference between a budget tutor and a specialist, which makes timing the more important decision.

We have two children on Cambridge maths. Does the second child cost the same?+

Per hour, broadly yes — one-to-one teaching is one-to-one teaching, and a second child in a different year group needs their own hour. Where households do save is in coordination rather than discount: one provider, one marking convention, one set of slots to protect in a week that already contains Arabic and Islamic education homework and a school run. If both children are in the same year and on the same syllabus code a shared session is theoretically cheaper, but the 0606 cohort is small and two siblings are rarely at the same point in the calculus, so it seldom teaches well.

Why is a 0606 specialist harder to price in Sharjah than in Dubai?+

Because the market is thinner in both directions. Dubai has 227 private schools across 17 curricula, which supports a visible tutoring market with competing published rates. Sharjah's private sector is smaller, a minority of its campuses enter candidates for Additional Mathematics at all, and a significant share of households attend Dubai schools from Al Nahda or Al Khan rather than locally. The result is fewer local quotes to compare and a wider spread between them. Online delivery is what levels this: the rate is set by who has taught the syllabus, not by who lives within driving distance of your community.

Does the Sharjah Private Education Authority set what a private maths tutor can charge?+

No. SPEA regulates private education in the emirate and, like Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for private schools. That remit covers schools, not individual tutoring arrangements, so a tutor's hourly rate is a matter between the tutor and the family. Private tutoring is governed separately, through the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. No tutoring provider, including IB Gram, holds an approval or accreditation from SPEA, and any page suggesting otherwise should be treated with real scepticism.

What does the free trial lesson for 0606 cover, and is there a condition attached?+

One hour, online, one to one, with no card required and no obligation to continue. It is best spent on a marked school paper you send in advance: the tutor works through two or three questions the student lost marks on and says where the loss actually came from. The thing to watch for is whether the tutor asks the student to simplify an expression before differentiating it. That single behaviour separates a 0606 specialist from a competent general maths tutor, and it is visible in sixty minutes. After the trial you decide the plan shape and the monthly figure, or you decide nothing.

If we stop 0606 support after a month, what have we actually paid for?+

Four sessions and, if the arrangement was built properly, four pieces of marked written work you keep. That is the test to apply when comparing providers: ask what remains in your possession after a month. Annotated questions showing where marks were lost, and a note of which topic areas have been covered, are useful to the school and to any tutor who comes next. An arrangement that leaves nothing behind has sold you attendance. We agree plans by the month rather than by the term for this reason, and nothing here is tied to an outcome.

Does a tutor's permit cost money that ends up in our hourly rate?+

It should not, because the permit is free. The MoHRE private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page — Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing — lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. So a licensing line in a quote has nothing behind it. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published.

Is it cheaper to start 0606 in Year 10 or to wait until Year 11?+

Starting earlier is almost always cheaper in total, for a reason that has little to do with hourly rates. The expensive part of 0606 is the eight to ten weeks of differentiation and integration, and what makes those weeks long is unfinished 0580 Extended algebra underneath them. Two or three Year 10 sessions spent making index and surd manipulation automatic shorten that block materially. Waiting until Year 11 means buying the same algebra at a calculus-session rate, inside a timetable that also contains nine other subjects. The cheapest version of this purchase is small and early, not large and late.

Which 0606 topics are worth paying a specialist for, and which can the school handle?+

Pay for differentiation and integration, and for the index and surd work that sits beneath them — that is where a specialist changes the outcome rather than the atmosphere. Trigonometric identities and the graph-linearising logarithm question are mid-cost: worth a session or two each. Circular measure, two-dimensional vectors and the factor and remainder theorem are compact, well taught in most Sharjah classrooms and rarely need paid hours. Permutations and combinations needs question practice rather than teaching. Planning spend against that shape is how a family runs eight months of support instead of three months of intensive.

Start with the marked paper, then decide the monthly figure

If Additional Mathematics has just appeared on your child's timetable in Sharjah and you are trying to work out what it will cost, do two things before comparing quotes. Photograph the most recent marked 0606 paper, and take a free trial lesson with no card required. The marked paper tells a specialist whether the problem is calculus or the algebra beneath it, and the trial tells you which of the market's three price tiers you are actually being offered. Lessons run online, one to one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Send the paper and we will suggest a plan shape and a monthly figure you can hold to.
