IGCSE Tutor near me in Remraam

Most families searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Remraam have not yet used the help they already have. School clinics, the subject teacher, the published mark schemes and a marked mock script are free, and between them they close a surprising share of the gap. This page compares every available source of help, paid and unpaid, and says which subjects actually repay a tutoring hour. Lessons reach Remraam one-to-one over live video; IB Gram does not visit UAE homes.

  • Free sources of help compared against paid ones honestly
  • Subjects ranked by how fast an hour of tutoring returns marks
  • What a student can fix alone, stated plainly
  • A free trial lesson runs before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Remraam

Start with what costs nothing, then buy what does not exist for free

A tutoring search is usually the third thing a worried family does and should be the fifth. Before it, there are four free sources of help that most students in this corridor have not fully used: the subject teacher, who sets the papers and knows the mark scheme; the school's own clinic or support sessions, which exist in most schools and are poorly attended; the published mark schemes, which are the clearest statement available of what earns credit; and the student's own marked mock script, which almost always goes in a drawer.

That is not an argument against paying for help. It is an argument for knowing what paid help is for. A tutor is worth money where something cannot be obtained free: individual diagnosis across a whole paper, sustained one-to-one attention on one student's specific error pattern, and the discipline of timed practice someone else marks and reconciles. Those are real and they are not available in a classroom of twenty-four.

Remraam makes the free options unusually accessible. South View School sits close to the community and takes students through Year 11, so a student here can realistically stay after school for a clinic and still be home at a reasonable hour, which is not true from Mudon, Arabian Ranches 3 or Town Square. A family in this community that has not tried the school route first is leaving something genuinely useful unused.

The second half of this page is about where paid hours go once the free help is exhausted, and the answer is not evenly distributed across subjects. Some IGCSE subjects return marks for an hour of tutoring very quickly because their losses are mechanical. Others need weeks of steady work. Spending the same money on the wrong subject is the commonest waste in this market after buying the wrong board's past papers.

One more reason to order things this way: a family that has used the free help arrives at a paid session with better information. They know what the subject teacher said, they have read a mark scheme, and they have the mock script in hand. A first session built on that is worth two built on a general description of worry, and it often turns out that the paid help needed is a single diagnostic hour rather than a term of weekly sessions.

IB Gram delivers lessons one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor matched to the board and code the student is entered for. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only, and no sentence here should be read as an offer to arrive at an Al Thamam or Al Ramth address. The sections below take the free options first, then the paid ones, in that order on purpose.

At a glance

  • Four free sources of help: the subject teacher, school clinics, published mark schemes, the marked mock
  • Paid help buys individual diagnosis, sustained attention and marked timed practice
  • Remraam's short school run makes staying for a clinic genuinely practical
  • Subjects differ sharply in how fast a tutoring hour returns marks
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour (Unitors)
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Two boards and a tier decision define what is being tutored, and both need confirming before any money is spent.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge International GCSE

Linear two-year courses with Core and Extended tiers in several subjects, where Core caps the available grade in the middle of the scale. Codes are public: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English.

UAE candidates sit the June and November series, and the February and March series is offered in India only. Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and states the correct zone timetable must be used, warning it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes include 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology and 4EA1 English Language A, with Mathematics tiered Foundation and Higher. Question phrasing and the expected amount of written method differ from Cambridge.

Pearson International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. As dated examples, the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

TIERDecided late in Year 10

The tier decision

Where a subject is tiered, the entry caps the grade. Core and Foundation cannot reach the top of the scale however well a student performs on the day, and the entry is lodged months before the papers on the basis of work already produced.

This is the one decision worth spending free help on first. Ask the school which tier a child is entered for, what evidence would change it, and the last date an amendment is possible. Those three answers are more valuable than a term of general tutoring.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the subjects most requested from this corridor, with a note on how quickly an hour of help tends to return marks in each.

Economics

IGCSE

The fastest returns in the set. Diagram labelling, axis conventions and precise terminology are mechanical, so a fortnight of drilling moves marks reliably without any new content being learned.

Chemistry

0620 and 4CH1

Fast, for the same reason. Unbalanced equations, missing state symbols and unclaimed qualitative analysis marks are presentation failures rather than knowledge gaps, and they are drillable.

Mathematics

0580 and 4MA1

Fast for technique, slow for foundations. Early rounding, unshown method and question-order discipline move in weeks; absent algebraic fluency needs months and should be said so.

Physics

0625 and 4PH1

Fast where the cause is mathematical. Rearrangement, standard form and gradients carry marks across the paper, and repairing them lifts chemistry at the same time.

Business Studies

IGCSE

Moderate. Application to the named business is a trainable habit, but it has to be practised across several case studies before it holds under exam pressure.

Biology

0610 and 4BI1

Slower. Terminology precision and command-term reading respond to steady practice over four to eight weeks rather than to a sharp intervention, so it should be started earlier.

English Language

0500 and 4EA1

Slower still. Register and task form can be taught quickly; the writing fluency underneath improves over months, and promising otherwise would be dishonest.

English Literature

IGCSE

Slow but reliable. Quotation security and essay structure respond to repetition, and timing failures are fixable quickly even where the analysis takes longer to develop.

Computer Science

IGCSE

Fast in the mechanical areas. Pseudocode conventions, trace tables and data representation are rule-based, and students who code well often lose exactly these marks.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three paid formats, each worth buying only once the free options have been used. All are delivered over live video.

Single diagnostic session

One session on a marked mock script, producing a written list of where the marks went and what each loss will take to close. Deliberately sold as one session, because for some students that is all the paid help they need.

  • Losses classified as content, method, timing or misreading
  • A written plan the student can follow unaided
  • An honest statement if no further help is needed
  • No obligation to book anything further

Short technique block

Two sessions a week for four to six weeks on the one or two subjects where the marked work shows mechanical losses. Short on purpose, because mechanical losses close quickly or not at all.

  • Timed questions from the entered code every session
  • Student marks their own work against the scheme
  • Block ends on a fixed date rather than rolling
  • Progress measured on the same question types

Long foundation block

A weekly hour over a term or more for genuine content gaps, which do not respond to short interventions. Proposed only where a script shows whole questions abandoned rather than scattered losses.

  • Topics sequenced by marks available in the real paper
  • Low-density topics deliberately excluded
  • Monthly review against the entry and mock dates
  • Honest ceiling stated at the start

Six sources of help, four of them free

Comparing paid help against nothing is the wrong comparison. The right one puts every available source side by side, including the ones that cost nothing, because the free ones are genuinely good at some things and useless at others, and knowing which is which saves money.

The subject teacher is the strongest free resource and the most underused. They set the mock, they know the mark scheme, they know the student's work across two years, and in most schools they will answer a specific question about a specific loss. The limitation is availability: a teacher with five classes cannot sit with one student for an hour a week, which is precisely the thing a tutor sells.

School clinics and support sessions exist in most Dubai private schools and are poorly attended. Published mark schemes are the clearest available statement of what earns credit, and almost no student has read one properly. The marked mock script is the single best diagnostic in the year and is usually filed after the grade is read. None of those four costs anything, and together they close a meaningful share of a typical gap.

What they cannot provide is individual diagnosis across a whole paper, sustained attention on one student's own error pattern week after week, and timed practice that somebody else marks and reconciles against the scheme. That is the honest case for paying, and it is the only case this page makes.

There is a sixth source worth naming, which is other students. A study pair sitting the same code and tier, marking each other's papers against the published scheme, is genuinely effective and costs nothing. It fails where neither student can interpret the scheme, which is why one session on how to read a mark scheme can be worth more than ten on content.

Which subjects repay a tutoring hour fastest

Subjects are not equal in how quickly they convert help into marks, and the difference is large enough to change where a family spends. The pattern follows one rule: the more mechanical the loss, the faster the return. Where marks go missing because of a convention the student does not follow, a fortnight of drilling recovers them. Where they go missing because something was never learned, months are needed.

Economics sits at the fast end. Diagram labelling, axis conventions, curve-shift explanations and precise terminology are rule-based, and a student who already understands the economics can gain visibly within two or three weeks. Chemistry is close behind, because equations, state symbols and qualitative analysis marks are presentation rather than comprehension. Computer Science behaves the same way with pseudocode and trace tables.

Mathematics and physics are split cases. Their technique losses are fast: rounding discipline, shown method, question order, rearrangement at speed. Their foundation losses are slow, and a provider who does not distinguish between the two is guessing. The same marked script that reveals one reveals the other, which is why diagnosis precedes any proposal here.

Biology, English Language and English Literature sit at the slower end. Their marks depend on terminology precision, register and sustained writing, which improve steadily rather than sharply. They are worth tutoring and they should be started earlier, and anyone promising a transformation in them six weeks out is selling something that does not exist.

A caution about the ranking itself. It describes typical cases rather than any individual student, and the marked script overrides it every time. A student whose chemistry losses are genuinely conceptual will not gain in three weeks whatever this table says, and a student whose biology problem is purely command-term reading will gain faster than the slow label suggests.

What a student can genuinely fix without paying anybody

Several of the most common IGCSE losses are self-correctable, and saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise. The qualification for a self-fix is that the student can detect the error themselves once they know to look for it, which rules out anything requiring interpretation of a whole paper.

Early rounding qualifies. The rule is to hold full precision until the final line and round once, and a student who writes that rule on the front of their folder will apply it. Unshown method qualifies partly: a student who reads one mark scheme properly, for a paper they have already sat, usually sees where the marks sat and adjusts. Question-order discipline qualifies, because it only requires a decision made in advance and a watch.

Command-term reading is the best self-fix available. Take ten past-paper questions, cover the stems, and state what each command term obliges before writing anything. It needs no teacher, works in a fortnight, and lifts every subject at once. The same is true of learning the conventions of a text type in English or a practical-method answer in science: both are lists to be learned rather than skills to be coached.

What is not self-fixable is the diagnosis itself. A student cannot usually tell whether they are losing marks to method, timing, misreading or absence, because all four feel like not knowing enough. That interpretation is what the single diagnostic session on this page exists for, and for some students it is the only paid hour they need.

SELF-FIXABLE AGAINST NOT SELF-FIXABLE
The lossSelf-fixable?What the student doesWhy
Early roundingYesHold full precision, round once at the endA rule the student can apply unsupervised
Question order and timingYesDecide an order in advance and keep a watchRequires a decision, not a skill

04

When one-to-one is the only thing that works

  • Losses spread thinly across every question rather than by topic
  • Strong class contribution with weak paper performance
  • A board mismatch between the entry and the available group revision
  • A student who has stopped attempting questions they can do

There are situations where free help and group help both fail, and they are worth naming so a family can recognise themselves. The first is a student whose losses are spread thinly across every question rather than concentrated in topics. That pattern needs somebody watching one student work, because the fault is in how answers are built and it shows up in the act rather than in the result.

The second is a mismatch between apparent ability and outcome. A student who contributes well in class, understands explanations and then scores two bands below expectation is almost always failing at execution, and a classroom cannot see it because the classroom sees the understanding. Diagnosing that takes a whole marked paper and somebody who knows the scheme.

The third is a board mismatch. Where a student is entered for Pearson and the school's group revision is pitched at Cambridge, or the other way round, group help actively misleads. One-to-one is the only format that can work the exact code the student sits, which is why the entry list matters before anything is booked.

The fourth is confidence. Some students stop attempting questions they could do, and that pattern does not respond to more teaching. It responds to a sequence of questions at the right difficulty, marked promptly, until the evidence of competence accumulates. That is slow in a group and straightforward one to one.

A fifth situation is a student carrying three sciences plus mathematics into a mock fortnight with no plan. That is a triage problem rather than a teaching problem, and it needs somebody to read all the scripts together and say which two subjects get the remaining weeks. A group class cannot do that, and a subject teacher sees only their own subject.

05

Remraam specifics: short school run, thin tutor pool

  • South View School's proximity makes free school clinics genuinely usable
  • A short run means an early-evening session with a student who is not tired
  • The local tutor pool is broad rather than deep
  • Selecting by board and code beats selecting by driving distance

Remraam is a low-rise apartment community in Dubailand, built as the Al Thamam and Al Ramth clusters with its own park and retail, reached from Al Qudra Road and Emirates Road. South View School sits close by and takes students through Year 11, which gives families here two advantages the rest of this belt does not have.

The first is that free school help is practical. A student can stay for a clinic or a support session and still be home at a reasonable hour, which is not a realistic proposition from Mudon, Arabian Ranches 3 or Town Square where the run is considerably longer. Any family in this community that has not tried that route is leaving the cheapest useful help on the table.

The second is that evening sessions can start early. A student home by four has a usable hour at a quarter past four, when they are not yet tired, and that hour is worth more than the same hour at eight. Families who moved here from communities with long commutes often do not realise the option exists.

The disadvantage is the tutor pool. The people advertising along this corridor are based around Dubai Investment Park, Dubai Sports City and Motor City, and most cover several subjects at IGCSE level rather than one deeply. For a specific Extended-tier paper close to a series, that pool is shallower than its advertising suggests, which is the argument for selecting by board and code rather than by distance.

06

Choosing between two tutors at the same price

  • Which papers have you marked, by code?
  • What happens in the first session, specifically?
  • What will you refuse to do with coursework?
  • Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit?
  • What happens if you become unavailable six weeks before the papers?

Once a family has decided to pay, the choice is usually between options that cost about the same, and rate tells you nothing at that point. Four questions separate them, and all four have checkable answers.

Which papers have you marked, by code. A tutor who can name 0620 Paper 4 or 4MA1 Paper 2 and describe what the scheme rewards there is in a different category from one who says they teach chemistry. Second, what will you do in the first session. The right answer involves a marked script; an answer involving a syllabus overview means the diagnosis has been skipped.

Third, what will you refuse to do with coursework. A tutor who says they give criterion feedback on the student's own writing and will not draft, rewrite or supply text is describing the correct boundary. A tutor who offers to handle it is describing something that puts the student at risk. Fourth, do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free of charge, valid two years and issued in a stated two working days, so there is no cost reason not to hold one.

A fifth question is worth asking of any provider rather than of a tutor: what happens if this person becomes unavailable six weeks before the papers. A freelance arrangement simply ends. A centre reassigns somebody who may not know the board. A managed match proposes a replacement with a fresh trial. The answers differ sharply and the question is never answered in a search result.

07

What the paid options cost, with sources

  • Cheapest published online rate in this market: AED 33 an hour (Tutopiya)
  • Qualified online band: AED 150 to 300 (Unitors IGCSE from 150)
  • Specialist band: AED 200 to 450 and above (TutorChase 270)
  • In-home band: AED 180 to 500, travel inside the quote
  • Highest published rate found: AED 650 an hour (BartyED)

Published rates in this city span a wide range, and knowing where an offer sits in that range is most of what a parent needs. Budget online and university-student tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52. That tier can be reasonable value for working through exercise sets with an organised student and is a poor fit for diagnosis.

A qualified subject tutor working online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Subject specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai cost table giving AED 200 to 450 or more. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel folded into the price, Bestimate's range being AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors publishing AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages seen in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Across a month, Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For household context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27. These are market figures with their sources named, not IB Gram prices.

08

Permits, premises and coursework limits

  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free, two years, two working days to issue
  • Centres with premises need a KHDA Educational Services Permit, renewed annually
  • No published fine schedule exists for unpermitted tutoring
  • A teacher tutoring their own enrolled students is the arrangement to refuse
  • Official board material is referenced and linked, never redistributed

There is a fifth free check that belongs beside the four in the first section, and almost no Remraam parent runs it: ask whoever you are about to pay whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. The eligibility list explains what you will find in a pool this thin, because it covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. The neighbour offering maths at a kind rate is therefore often a serving teacher or an undergraduate rather than a full-time tutor, and either one can be properly permitted. The instrument behind it is Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years, so no part of the rate you are quoted can honestly be attributed to the cost of holding one.

MoHRE's own service listing is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, shows no fees and a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule is published, any amount quoted to you as the penalty is unverified.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff needs a different authorisation: a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. IB Gram has no UAE premises, holds no such permit, and does not use a regulator's name to describe its tutors.

One arrangement to decline: Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. Separately, where a centre runs assessed coursework it must be the student's own, so a tutor explains criteria, critiques an approach and marks a draft the student wrote, and never writes, drafts, completes or edits the work to completion.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Remraam

Access to free school help varies more across this corridor than access to paid help does, which is the opposite of what families assume.

Remraam

South View School sits close by, so staying for an after-school clinic and getting home at a sensible hour is genuinely practical here.

Mudon

Villas across Al Qudra Road with no school inside the community, which makes staying late for school support a longer and less appealing proposition.

DAMAC Hills

Jebel Ali School sits inside the community and takes students through Year 11, giving families there the same clinic advantage Remraam has.

Motor City

GEMS Metropole School in the community, plus the densest concentration of paid tuition centres serving this part of Dubai.

Dubai Investment Park

Adjacent along the corridor and the base for several of the freelance tutors advertising to Remraam families, mostly covering IGCSE broadly.

Arabian Ranches 3

A young population with the school run outward in every direction, so after-school support costs an extra journey for parents.

Town Square

The longest run of the group, which makes both school clinics and centre classes expensive in time even when they are free in money.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Use the school first

Ask the subject teacher one specific question about one specific loss, and find out whether a clinic or support session exists. From Remraam that is practical in a way it is not from most of this belt, and it is the cheapest useful help available.

  2. 02

Get the entry list in writing

Subject, board, code and tier for each IGCSE entry. Schools in this corridor do not all use one board across a timetable, and group revision pitched at the other board actively misleads. One message, and every later decision gets easier.

  3. 03

    Buy one diagnostic session

Send a marked mock script and book a single session. The output is a written list of where the marks went and what each loss will take to close. For some students that is the only paid hour needed, and we will say so when it is.

  4. 04

Then buy the block the diagnosis implies

Mechanical losses need four to six weeks of twice-weekly technique work. Genuine content gaps need a term. Those are different products with different prices, and the script decides which, not the level of worry in the house.

  5. 05

Fix a slot and set an end date

Sessions sit on Gulf Standard Time and can start early given the short run from South View School. Because nobody travels, a slot can move within the evening or after Iftar during Ramadan at no cost, and every block ends on a stated date.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The free options are compared honestly

The subject teacher, school clinics, published mark schemes and the marked mock cost nothing and close a real share of a typical gap. A page that pretends otherwise is selling rather than advising, and families notice eventually.

Subjects are ranked by return, not by demand

Economics, chemistry and computer science repay an hour within weeks because their losses are mechanical. Biology and English take longer. Spending the same money on the wrong subject is a common and avoidable waste.

One session is a product we actually sell

A single diagnostic session on a marked script, with a written plan the student can follow unaided, is offered on its own. Sometimes that is the whole answer, and nothing further is proposed when that is the case.

Blocks end on a date

Mechanical losses close in four to six weeks or they are not mechanical. Open-ended weekly arrangements are easier to sell and worse value, so every block proposed here carries a length and a purpose.

Board and code come before teaching

Cambridge and Pearson phrase questions differently and expect different written method. Confirming the code per subject costs one message and prevents a term of practice that teaches the wrong habits.

No regulator names used as credentials

IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no KHDA permit, no ADEK registration, no board affiliation and no UAE office. Where a competing page attaches a regulator's name to its tutors, that is a claim to check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Remraam: your questions answered

Should a Remraam family try school support before hiring anyone?+

Yes, and this community is better placed for it than most of the belt. South View School sits close by, so staying for a clinic or support session and getting home at a reasonable hour is realistic, which it is not from Mudon, Arabian Ranches 3 or Town Square. The subject teacher sets the mock, knows the mark scheme and has two years of context on your child. What school support cannot provide is an hour of individual attention each week on one student's own error pattern.

Which IGCSE subject gives the quickest improvement for the money?+

Economics, usually, followed closely by chemistry and computer science. All three lose marks mechanically: diagram labelling and terminology in economics, equations and state symbols in chemistry, pseudocode conventions and trace tables in computer science. A student who already understands the material can gain visibly in two to four weeks because nothing new has to be learned. Biology, English Language and English Literature move more slowly, since they depend on terminology precision, register and sustained writing that improve over months.

Can my daughter fix her own timing problems without a tutor?+

Usually yes, and it is one of the better self-fixes available. Timing collapse shows as a strong first half and an abandoned final page, and the repair is a decision rather than a skill: choose a question order in advance, keep a watch visible, and allocate time by marks available rather than by how interesting a question looks. Three or four full papers sat under those rules settle it. What she probably cannot do alone is work out whether timing is actually her problem, which needs a marked script read by someone who knows the scheme.

What exactly does a single diagnostic session produce?+

A written list. The session reads a marked mock or past paper and separates content absence, visible as untouched questions, from method loss where the approach was right and the presentation lost marks, from timing collapse, from misreading caused by skipping a command term. Each has a different repair time, from a fortnight to several months. The output is that classification plus a plan the student can follow unaided. For some students no further paid help is needed, and we say so rather than proposing a block.

Is a cheap online tutor at AED 50 an hour ever the right choice?+

For some jobs, yes. Budget online and university-student tutors advertise from roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour in this market, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52, and for working steadily through exercise sets with an organised student that is defensible value. What that tier rarely provides is diagnosis: recognising from a marked script which of four failures is costing the marks and which three topics carry the most recoverable ones. Ask any tutor at any price which papers they have marked.

Why does group revision sometimes make things worse?+

Board mismatch, mostly. If a student is entered for Pearson 4CH1 and the room is working from Cambridge 0620 papers, the practice teaches question styles and method conventions that will not appear, which is worse than no practice. Mixed-board groups form because centres need the numbers, and the teacher then has to cover content rather than paper technique. Ask the centre which codes the room is working from, and treat a vague answer as the answer.

How do we choose between two tutors who charge the same?+

Four questions with checkable answers. Which papers have you marked, by code. What happens in the first session, specifically. What will you refuse to do with coursework. And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free, valid two years and issued in a stated two working days. A tutor who can name a paper and describe what its scheme rewards is in a different category from one who says they teach the subject. Rate tells you nothing at this point.

Our son understands everything in class and then underperforms. Why?+

Because the classroom sees understanding and the paper tests execution. The three failures behind this pattern are predictable: no question-order strategy, so the last page is abandoned; no habit of showing method, so multi-step marks go uncollected; and command-term misreading, so a good answer addresses a question that was not asked. None of them is visible to a teacher watching him contribute well. All three show in a marked paper and all three move within a few weeks once named.

What should a student do with a published mark scheme?+

Mark their own paper with it, line by line, for a paper they have already sat. Reading a scheme properly is a skill: understanding that a mark is awarded for a specific statement, that bracketed alternatives are acceptable, that consequential marks can follow a correct method to a wrong value, and that a right answer without required working does not always score. Students who learn this stop guessing what examiners want, and it costs nothing. Most have never been shown how.

Is it worth tutoring English Language eight weeks before the papers?+

Partly, and the honest answer is narrower than families want. Register and task form can be taught quickly: a task asking for a speech that receives an essay loses marks that strong writing cannot recover, and learning the conventions of each text type is a short piece of work. The writing fluency underneath improves over months, not weeks. So eight weeks can secure the mechanical marks and will not transform the analysis, and anyone promising otherwise is selling something that does not exist.

How many paid hours does a typical Year 11 actually need?+

Fewer than most families buy, if the sequence is right. A single diagnostic session, then four to six weeks of twice-weekly work on the one or two subjects showing mechanical losses, is enough for a large share of students. A term-long block is appropriate where a script shows whole questions abandoned rather than scattered losses, because content genuinely absent needs months. Buying three subjects at once produces three sets of homework and no practice time, which is the most common way money gets wasted here.

Will a tutor come to an apartment in Al Ramth or Al Thamam?+

Not one arranged through IB Gram. Lessons are taught one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only. Visiting tutors exist in Dubai and are advertised at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the price, per Bestimate's Dubai cost table and the rates home tutors publish. The online route also avoids a fixed arrival window, which matters when a bus runs late and a visiting tutor has another household to reach afterwards.

What happens if our tutor leaves Dubai before the papers?+

Ask every provider that before committing, because the answers differ sharply and none of them appears in a search result. A freelance arrangement simply ends, which is the main risk in the cheapest tier. A centre reassigns a teacher who may not know the board. With IB Gram a replacement is proposed and a free trial lesson applies again, so you are not paying to find out whether the new match works. Getting the answer in writing is worth more than twenty dirhams off the rate.

Does a tutor need a permit to teach along this corridor?+

The individual does. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and covers registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's listing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, so there is no cost reason not to hold one. Anyone tutoring without it is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

Use the free help, then buy one session

The order that saves money from Remraam is: ask the subject teacher one specific question, find out whether a school clinic exists, get the board, code and tier list in writing, and then send one marked script for a single diagnostic session. What comes back is a written list of where the marks went and what each loss will take to close, including the case where no further paid help is needed. Lessons are delivered online on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only.
