IGCSE Tutor near me in Discovery Gardens

A search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Discovery Gardens returns four or five different products described in the same language: tuition centres, agency rosters, freelance tutors from community groups, marketplaces and online services. This page compares them on what each can actually do for a Year 11 grade, and explains how IB Gram matches by syllabus code and teaches one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Discovery Gardens

Five different products, one search result

The hardest part of finding IGCSE help in this corridor is not availability but comparison. A search returns tuition centres with premises, agency rosters that place a tutor with you, freelance tutors advertising in building and community groups, international marketplaces listing people in other time zones, and online one-to-one services. All of them describe themselves in near-identical language, and all of them are genuinely different products with different failure modes.

Discovery Gardens makes the question concrete because the options really are nearby. Ibn Battuta sits next door, the community has its own Route 2020 metro station, and there are learning centres and private tutors within a short distance of 291 residential buildings. A parent can plausibly choose a centre on walking distance alone, which is a reasonable thing to want and a poor basis for a Year 11 decision.

What this page does is compare the options on capability rather than on convenience. A tuition centre group class can do things one-to-one cannot, including structure and peer pace at a lower unit cost. One-to-one can do things a centre cannot, including diagnosing why a specific student loses marks on a specific paper. A school clinic is free and is often the best first move. Knowing which tool fits the problem saves more money than negotiating a rate.

The one variable that cuts across every option is the exam board. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE equivalent is 4MA1, with different tiers, paper structures and mark-scheme conventions. Several schools in this corridor enter different boards in different departments. A provider who cannot tell you which board they teach has told you something important regardless of their model.

IB Gram's position in that comparison is specific. We are an online one-to-one service: we match on the syllabus code from your child's entry list, name the tutor and their components before the first lesson, and run every UAE session over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address, since home visiting is a service we offer only in India.

That is a limit and this page states it alongside the comparison rather than burying it. It also means we are the wrong answer for some families, including those who want a group class for motivation or a physically present adult for a younger child. The comparison below should let you work out which you are before you spend anything.

There is one more thing worth doing before any of this, and it is free. Most schools in this corridor run a subject clinic, publish a KHDA inspection report, and hold a paper-level breakdown of your child's last mock. Those three documents between them usually identify the problem, and the problem is what should choose the provider. Families who skip them end up comparing rates for a service they have not yet established they need.

At a glance

  • Centres, agencies, freelancers, marketplaces and online services are different products
  • The school's own subject clinic is free and usually the right first move
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams, whatever the provider
  • Group classes suit broad revision; one-to-one suits a diagnosed gap
  • Published rates: AED 150 to 300 online, AED 180 to 500 in-home with travel
  • We are an online one-to-one service and visit no UAE addresses
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which option fits also depends on the stage. These are the four phases either side of the Year 11 papers and what suits each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external assessment, so the useful work is habits rather than content: reading a task instruction properly, showing method, structuring a written answer, and algebraic fluency. A group class can work well at this stage because the content is shared and the pace suits most of a cohort. One-to-one is worth it only where a specific gap has been identified.

Discovery Gardens students in these years are home earlier and have fewer commitments, which widens the options: an after-school centre class near Ibn Battuta is genuinely practical for a Year 8 student in a way it is not for a Year 11 student home at 16:30 with three subjects of homework waiting.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and International GCSE, Years 10 to 11

Terminal written papers with tiers fixed at entry, and most lost marks coming from method, command terms and reading rather than from content gaps. That shifts the balance towards one-to-one, because diagnosis is what moves these marks and a group cannot diagnose an individual's error pattern.

This is where nearly all Discovery Gardens enquiries sit, and where the comparison matters most. A centre revision course plus a weekly one-to-one session on the one subject that is not moving is the combination many families here end up with, and it is usually the right one.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Advanced Level or IB Diploma afterwards

Most schools want grade 6 or 7 before accepting a subject at Advanced Level, and IB Diploma Higher Level entry usually asks the same, so a capped tier closes routes. Post-16 courses move faster and the specialist pool is thinner, which pushes the balance further towards one-to-one with a subject specialist.

Families in this corridor frequently change schools at 16 because full IB Diploma provision nearby is thinner than further north. A summer bridging block is worth more here than in communities where students stay put, because the first term brings a new school and new content simultaneously.

RESITAny Year 11 or post-16 candidate

The November series

Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. The decision should come from the paper-level breakdown rather than the overall grade, and the window to enter is short after August results.

For a November entry the comparison narrows sharply, because centres rarely run courses for it and the cohort is small. One-to-one through the UAE summer is usually the only real option, and it is also the easiest time of year to secure a specialist, since Dubai demand collapses after results.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Which option fits also depends on the subject, because some are widely taught in this corridor and some are barely taught at all. Each note names the codes and the supply picture.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1

The most widely available subject in every provider model, so the comparison is genuinely open. Group revision courses exist, centres run them, and one-to-one is plentiful. The deciding factor is whether the student has a diagnosed error pattern, in which case a group cannot address it.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge 0606; Pearson 4PM1

Barely available in any local model. Few centres run it, few freelancers have taught it recently, and the cohort is small. This is the clearest case in the whole subject list where an online match is not a preference but the only realistic route.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Reasonably available one-to-one and less often as a dedicated group course. The practical or alternative-to-practical component is rarely taught well in group settings, because it needs individual marked feedback on tables, graphs and method descriptions.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Widely available at Year 11 level. Mole arithmetic and chemical tests are the reliable losses, and both respond to drilled individual practice rather than to a group walkthrough, because the student needs their own errors corrected repeatedly.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Widely available. The subject's main loss is imprecise language, which is corrected only by having written answers marked individually. A group class can teach the content and cannot mark thirty students' phrasing, which is where the marks go.

Coordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

Group provision is thinner than for separate sciences because the cohort is more varied. The structural issue also argues for one-to-one: a weak discipline appears in every paper, so support must concentrate there rather than following a group syllabus.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Group courses are common and genuinely useful for approach and structure. What they cannot do is mark enough of one student's writing, and reading response marks turn on selective quotation and precise explanation of effect in that student's own answers.

English Literature

Cambridge 0475 and 0992; Pearson 4ET1

The subject with the widest gap between group and individual value. Set-text teaching works in a group; timed essay practice with marked feedback does not, and the latter is the only thing that reliably moves a literature grade.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Group courses cover content and diagrams well. Command-term discipline, which is what separates grades here, requires individual marked answers, because the error is in the student's own paragraph shape rather than in their knowledge.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Patchy local availability and frequently taught by people strong in programming and unfamiliar with the board's pseudocode conventions. Worth asking any provider, in any model, which conventions they teach before committing.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470; Pearson 4GE1 and 4HI1

Case-study content suits a group; source-question technique and essay structure do not. Most students in these subjects know more than their marks suggest, which is a diagnosis problem and therefore an individual one.

Arabic as a first and additional language

Cambridge 0508 and 0544

Mandatory teaching in Dubai private schools under KHDA rules means every student takes Arabic, but entry-level tuition for the first-language qualification is scarce in every model. Confirm which entry your child sits before comparing any provider.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Within one-to-one online tuition, these are the patterns that work for Year 10 and Year 11 students in this community.

Weekly session on one subject

One sixty-minute session a week on the subject the marked evidence says is weakest, working from the school's own assessments rather than a parallel syllabus. This is the pattern that complements a centre revision course rather than duplicating it, which is why many families here run both.

  • Matched to the board and syllabus code on the entry list
  • Built on the school's marked work, not a separate course
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Complements rather than duplicates group provision

Single diagnostic session

One session on one marked paper, ending with a written statement of what pattern connects the lost marks. The cheapest way to find out which of the options on this page you actually need, and many families in this community buy nothing else afterwards.

  • Built entirely on work the school has already marked
  • Produces written findings you can take to the school
  • No commitment to a term or a block afterwards
  • Frequently shows that a group course is the better buy

Marked paper block before the June series

Two shorter sessions a week: a timed paper set in one, marked strictly against the board's own scheme in the next, with errors grouped by cause. This is the thing no group class and no amount of unmarked self-study can replicate, because it requires one student's answers read closely.

  • Timed past paper by component, then marked discussion
  • Errors grouped by command term, method and reading
  • Short gap so the set paper is actually completed
  • Defined block of weeks with an end date

Scarce-subject cover

For Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics, Arabic as a first language and the smaller humanities entries, where local provision in any model is thin or absent. Here online matching is not a preference but the practical route to a specialist at all.

  • Subjects centres in this corridor rarely run
  • Matched citywide and beyond rather than locally
  • Confirmed against the exact syllabus code before booking
  • Honest answer where even online cover is unavailable

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Discovery Gardens

01

The options a Discovery Gardens search returns, compared

Five models dominate, and the differences are structural rather than reputational. A tuition centre has premises and runs classes to a timetable, usually in groups. An agency keeps a roster and places someone with you, in person or online. A freelance tutor found through a community or building group works independently. An international marketplace lists individuals, often in other time zones. An online service matches and delivers over video.

Each has a characteristic strength. Centres provide structure, pace and peer motivation at a lower unit cost, which suits a student who is broadly on track and needs momentum. Agencies provide screening and replacement if a match fails. Freelancers can be excellent and are the most variable category, because nothing has been checked by anyone other than the parent who recommended them.

Each also has a characteristic failure. Centres cannot diagnose one student's error pattern, because the content is set in advance and the pace belongs to the group. Marketplaces route you to whoever is listed, sometimes teaching a different qualification with a similar name. Two of the most visible competitor pages in this market route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, and one shows a Dubai footer address on a page written for Abu Dhabi.

The published costs are consistent across the market and worth having in mind while comparing. Budget online provision with student tutors runs AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. A qualified subject tutor online runs AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. In-home with travel runs AED 180 to 350 per Bestimate, with independent tutors advertising AED 200 to 500. Those are market figures read in October 2026, not our prices.

Try the free option first: the school's own clinic

  • The subject clinic answers single-question cases for free
  • KHDA inspection reports name subject-level strengths and weaknesses
  • The paper-level mock breakdown tells you which purchase you need
  • All three are free and most families use none of them

Before comparing paid providers, use the one that costs nothing. Most schools in this corridor run subject clinics or support sessions, and the teacher who set and marked the assessment is better placed than anyone to explain the marking of it. For a specific question about a specific marked answer, that is both free and immediate, and a surprising number of families have never asked whether it exists.

Its limits are real and worth naming. A clinic gives a few minutes per student, it cannot work through a full diagnostic across a subject, and it is not available for the volume of marked practice a Year 11 student needs in the final term. It is a scalpel rather than a programme. But it answers the single-question cases, which are a larger share of the problem than parents assume.

There is a second free document: the KHDA inspection report for your child's school. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes reports that name subject-level strengths and weaknesses. If mathematics attainment is flagged across the school, you are buying support for a structural issue and should brief any provider accordingly.

The third is the paper-level breakdown of the last mock. Schools hold it and often do not send it out. A grade 5 from one weak component needs targeted work; the same grade spread evenly needs broad consolidation; the same grade caused by unfinished papers is a timing problem. Those are three different purchases, and knowing which you need makes every comparison on this page straightforward.

03

Group class or one-to-one, on the arithmetic

Group classes are genuinely cheaper per hour and sometimes the right purchase, so the comparison deserves better than a sales answer. A centre running an IGCSE revision course for a group of eight can price well below any one-to-one rate, and for a student who is broadly on track and lacks structure or momentum that is money well spent. The pace and the peer effect do real work.

What a group cannot do is diagnose. The content is set in advance and delivered to the middle of the room. A student losing marks because their extended answers describe rather than explain, or because their working is never shown, will sit through a syllabus review that never mentions it. The cheaper per-hour option becomes the more expensive per-grade option whenever the problem is specific.

The split that works in practice, and the one many families in this community land on, is both: a centre revision course for structure and breadth, plus a weekly one-to-one session on the single subject that is not moving. That uses each model for what it does well, and it usually costs less than running one-to-one across three subjects.

On small groups of two to four, sometimes offered at a lower per-student rate: these are good value when the students genuinely match on subject, level and weakness, and poor value otherwise, because one student pays to watch the other get taught. Before agreeing to a pairing, ask what the other student's current grade and specific difficulty are. A vague answer is an answer.

04

What a community-group recommendation actually tells you

  • Recommendations signal reliability and manner, not subject capability
  • Grade changes are rarely attributable to one intervention
  • Use a recommendation to shortlist, then ask the board and code question
  • The MoHRE permit is free for two years; ask about it in every model

In a community of 291 buildings, recommendations circulate constantly and they are genuinely useful information of a particular kind. What a neighbour's recommendation reliably tells you is that a tutor turned up, was pleasant, and that the family felt better afterwards. Those matter. What it does not tell you is whether the tutor taught the right board, or whether the grade moved for a reason connected to the tutoring.

The gap is not cynicism, it is measurement. Most families cannot attribute a grade change to a specific intervention, because several things change at once: the student matures, the school teaches more, revision intensifies. A recommendation is therefore a reliable signal about reliability and manner, and a weak signal about subject capability. Both are worth having and they are not the same thing.

So use the recommendation to shortlist and then ask the questions yourself. Which board and syllabus code do you teach? What is each paper worth? Where do students in this subject lose marks, and is the answer about a topic or about the mark scheme? How do you mark a timed paper? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? Five minutes of that tells you more than any number of endorsements.

The permit question is worth asking in every model. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here. Because the permit is free, a tutor charging you for it is billing for nothing.

05

Discovery Gardens against Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park on supply

Local supply varies across this corridor in ways worth knowing, because it determines whether a proximity search is even a sensible strategy. Discovery Gardens has good access to nearby commercial space and learning centres, thanks to Ibn Battuta next door, and almost no resident subject specialists. So centre provision is realistic here and private specialist provision is not particularly local.

Dubai Investments Park is the opposite case. It holds several of the schools this corridor attends, which means teachers are physically present in the area during the day. That is the one place nearby where a locally based subject specialist is reasonably likely, and families in and immediately around it occasionally find a good private arrangement that would be hard to replicate from Discovery Gardens.

Jebel Ali and the southern districts have the thinnest supply in either model. Fewer centres, fewer resident specialists, longer drives from where Dubai's tutors live, and a working population whose hours push demand to 19:00, which few local options serve. For those households online delivery is less a choice than the only arrangement that fits the evening.

The conclusion from comparing the three is the same conclusion this page keeps reaching. Local supply determines which options exist; it does not determine which option works. A centre class in walking distance that cannot diagnose a command-term problem is still not the right purchase for a command-term problem, however convenient it is. Matching the tool to the diagnosis is what decides the outcome.

The answer that is the same in every model

  • The board and code decide whether teaching is aimed correctly
  • The tier caps the grade and closes post-16 routes
  • Only marked practice converts past papers into marks
  • The entry list makes every provider comparable in five minutes

Whichever option a family chooses, three things decide the outcome and none of them is affected by the model. The first is whether the teaching is aimed at the right board. Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams with different tiers, paper structures and mark-scheme conventions, and several schools in this corridor enter different boards in different departments. A centre, an agency or a freelancer can all get this wrong equally.

The second is the tier. Core and Foundation entries cap the grade, and post-16 study usually requires grade 6 or 7, so a tier chosen in Year 10 can close a route. No provider model changes that, and no amount of good teaching in Year 11 reopens an entry that closed months earlier. Any provider worth using will ask which tier your child is entered for in the first conversation.

The third is marked practice. Unmarked past-paper work builds recognition of question types and very little else, which is why students who have done a great many papers still plateau. Timed, marked strictly against the real scheme, with errors grouped by cause rather than by topic, is the version that moves marks. Whether that happens is a property of the arrangement rather than of the model.

Which is why the comparison on this page, however carefully drawn, matters less than one document: the entry list from the school's exams officer, naming the board, code and tier for every subject. With it, any provider can be evaluated in five minutes. Without it, the most expensive option in the city can be aimed at the wrong papers and nobody will notice until the mock.

07

How to compare two quotes properly

Most families compare quotes on the hourly rate because it is the only number offered. A more useful comparison takes five minutes and uses six questions, none of which is about price. What is being compared is capability and honesty, and the differences between two providers at the same rate are usually larger than the differences between two rates.

Ask which board and syllabus code they teach, and listen for the code rather than a reassurance that the syllabuses are similar. Ask what each paper is worth, and whether they can state it from memory. Ask where students lose marks in this subject, and whether the answer names a mark-scheme behaviour or a difficult topic. Only the first kind of answer is useful.

Then ask three more. How do you mark a timed paper, and does marking happen at all? What will you not do with assessed work, which a good provider answers unprompted? And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid for two years, so there is no reason for an evasive answer.

Finally, check what you are being shown. Treat an untraceable star rating with caution: one competitor in this market displays two different ratings and review counts on the same page. Treat examiner claims with caution unless current status is evidenced, since examiner status gives nobody access to marking, boundaries or paper content. And treat any grade guarantee as a sales device, because no provider can honestly offer one.

Where we are the wrong answer, and our limits

  • A centre is better for group structure and motivation
  • A school clinic is better for a single question, and free
  • We fit a diagnosed problem, a scarce entry, or a late slot
  • No UAE home visits, no UAE office, no grade guarantees

A comparison page that concludes in favour of its author on every axis is not a comparison. So here are the cases where IB Gram is not the right option for a Discovery Gardens family. If you want a group class for motivation and structure at a lower unit cost, a centre near Ibn Battuta is the better buy. If you want a physically present adult for a child under about eight, we cannot provide that in the UAE.

If what the household needs is supervision rather than teaching, a cheaper service is the honest answer, and paying a subject rate for an invigilator is the largest avoidable waste in this market. And if the question is a single query about one marked answer, the school's subject clinic will deal with it today for nothing, which is a better outcome than buying an hour.

Where we do fit is narrower and clearer: a diagnosed problem in a specific subject, a scarce entry no local provider covers, marked paper work that needs one student's answers read closely, and situations where the household needs a 19:00 slot that nothing local serves. We match on the syllabus code, name the tutor and their components before the first lesson, and deliver one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30.

The standing limits apply. No tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. There is no IB Gram office in the UAE. We do not reproduce board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes, and we cite and link official sources instead. We hold no approval or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson. We do not guarantee grades, and if no specialist is free for your board and slot we say so.

Where we tutor

Discovery Gardens and the supply around it

Where help actually comes from differs by community in this corridor. These are the neighbours and what each contributes to the local pool.

Discovery Gardens

An apartment community of 291 buildings beside Ibn Battuta with its own metro station. Good access to nearby commercial space and learning centres, and almost no resident IGCSE subject specialists, which is the distinction that matters.

Al Furjan

Villas and townhouses immediately south on shared bus routes. Easier for a visiting tutor to serve because there is usually a room, and drawing on exactly the same citywide pool of specialists.

Ibn Battuta and The Gardens

The adjacent commercial and low-rise residential area. The nearest concentration of learning centres and the reason a centre class is a realistic option for younger students in this community.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds several of the schools this corridor attends, so some teachers are in the area during the day. The one place nearby where a locally based subject specialist is reasonably likely.

Jebel Ali

Established schools and long-settled families further south. Free zone working hours mean many households need a 19:00 slot, which rules out most centre timetables and most visiting tutors.

Dubai Production City

Townhouses and apartments along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, closer to the Al Barsha cluster where more of Dubai's tutors actually live and work.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest districts, furthest from both the school cluster and the tutor supply, with the thinnest local options of anywhere in this corridor.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Use the free options before comparing paid ones

The school's subject clinic, the KHDA inspection report and the paper-level mock breakdown cost nothing and together tell you which purchase you need. Most families in this community use none of the three before spending money on the wrong model.

  2. 02

Get the entry list from the exams officer

It names the board, syllabus code and tier for every subject. With it, any provider in any model can be evaluated in five minutes. Several schools in this corridor enter different boards in different departments, so one document can change two subjects' plans at once.

  3. 03

Put the six questions to every shortlisted provider

Board and code, paper weightings, where marks are lost, how papers are marked, what they will not do with assessed work, and whether they hold the MoHRE permit. The differences between two providers at the same rate are usually larger than the differences between rates.

  4. 04

Send us the codes and your quiet hour

If one-to-one is the right model for your diagnosis, send the code, the tier, the component losing marks and the hour your household can protect. In an apartment the last of those matters as much as the first, and it is better agreed at the start.

Free trial around your marked paper

Bring the most recent marked work and ask what pattern connects the lost marks. A specialist names behaviours rather than topics. No payment is taken for the trial, there is no obligation, and if the answer is that a group course would serve you better we will say so.

Run models together where that is cheaper

A centre revision course for structure plus one weekly one-to-one session on the subject that is not moving usually costs less than one-to-one across three subjects and works better than either alone. We are happy to be one part of that arrangement.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is made honestly

This page names the cases where a centre, a school clinic or a cheaper supervision service is the better purchase. A provider unwilling to say where it is the wrong answer is not comparing anything, and that is most of this market.

Matched on the code, in a market that rarely checks

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams, and a centre, an agency or a freelancer can all aim at the wrong one equally. We confirm the code from the entry list before the trial, because that error is invisible until the mock.

Marked practice, which models cannot replicate at scale

Nobody can mark thirty students' timed essays weekly. Reading one student's answers closely, against the real scheme, with errors grouped by cause, is the thing one-to-one does that group provision structurally cannot.

Reaches the subjects nothing local covers

Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics, Arabic as a first language and the smaller humanities entries are barely taught in any local model in this corridor. Online matching is the practical route to a specialist rather than a preference.

Slots that local provision does not serve

Sessions run to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time, seven days. For households in this corridor where a parent is home at 19:00, or a student at 17:30 from the Al Barsha run, that is a window most centres and most visiting tutors do not offer.

Figures and claims you can trace

Every AED rate names the provider that published it and the month it was read. No self-reported ratings, no satisfaction percentages, no unevidenced examiner claims and no grade guarantees appear anywhere on this page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Discovery Gardens: your questions answered

What options does a Discovery Gardens family actually have for IGCSE help?+

Five paid models and three free ones. Paid: a tuition centre group class, an agency roster, a freelance tutor from a community group, an international marketplace, or an online one-to-one service. Free: the school's own subject clinic, the KHDA inspection report for the school, and the paper-level breakdown of the last mock. Most families compare the paid options on price and use none of the free ones, which is the wrong way round, because the free ones tell you which paid option you need.

Is a tuition centre near Ibn Battuta a good option for Year 11?+

For structure, pace and momentum, yes, and it prices well below one-to-one. For a diagnosed problem, no. A group class delivers content set in advance to the middle of the room, so a student losing marks because their extended answers describe rather than explain will sit through a syllabus review that never addresses it. Many families here get the best result from both: a centre revision course for breadth, plus one weekly one-to-one session on the subject that is not moving.

What does a neighbour's tutor recommendation really tell me?+

That the tutor turned up, was pleasant and that the family felt better afterwards. Those are worth knowing. What it does not tell you is whether the tutor taught the right exam board, or whether a grade moved for a reason connected to the tutoring, because most families cannot attribute a grade change to one intervention when the student is also maturing and the school is also teaching. Use a recommendation to shortlist, then ask the board and code question yourself.

How do I compare two tutors quoting the same rate?+

With six questions, none about price. Which board and syllabus code do you teach? What is each paper worth? Where do students lose marks in this subject? How do you mark a timed paper? What will you not do with assessed work? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit? Listen for the code rather than a reassurance that the syllabuses are similar, and for a mark-scheme answer rather than a hard-topic answer. The differences at one rate are usually larger than between rates.

Which IGCSE subjects have no local provision in this corridor?+

Additional Mathematics and Further Pure Mathematics, Arabic as a first language, Computer Science to any depth, and the smaller humanities entries. Centres rarely run them because the cohort is too small, and few local freelancers have taught them recently. These are the clearest cases where online matching is a practical necessity rather than a preference, because the constraint is the citywide supply of those specialists rather than anything about this community.

Does Discovery Gardens have fewer tutoring options than nearby communities?+

It has more centre provision than most of the corridor, because Ibn Battuta and The Gardens are next door, and about as few resident subject specialists as anywhere. Dubai Investments Park is the one nearby place where a locally based specialist is reasonably likely, because several of this corridor's schools are there and teachers are in the area during the day. Jebel Ali and the southern districts have the thinnest local supply in either model.

Can a tutoring centre tell me whether my child is on the right tier?+

Usually not, because that requires reading several pieces of this student's marked work against the tier demands, and a group class does not involve anyone doing that. The school is the primary source, since it makes the entry recommendation, and an individual tutor reading three marked papers can give a second view. Core and Foundation entries cap the grade, and post-16 study usually needs grade 6 or 7, so the question deserves answering in Year 10 rather than Year 11.

Why does the school's subject clinic get overlooked?+

Because it is not advertised and it feels like asking a favour. In most schools in this corridor it exists, and the teacher who set and marked the assessment is better placed than anyone to explain the marking of it. Its limits are real: a few minutes per student, not a programme, and no capacity for the volume of marked practice a Year 11 student needs. But for a single question about a specific marked answer it is both free and immediate.

Are small groups of two or three students good value?+

When the students genuinely match on subject, level and weakness, yes, and the lower per-student rate is a real saving. When they do not, one student pays a rate only slightly below one-to-one to watch the other get taught. Before agreeing to a pairing, ask what the other student's current grade and specific difficulty are. If the answer is vague, decline, because it means nobody has matched them on anything other than availability.

Should I worry if a tutoring website shows a UAE address or a foreign number?+

Check both. Two of the most visible competitor pages in this market route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, and one shows a Dubai footer address on a page written for Abu Dhabi. A page can look local without anything behind it being local. Ask directly who will teach, from where, and in which time zone. For the record, IB Gram has no office, centre or branch in the UAE, and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

Can a tutor charge me for their UAE permit?+

No, because it is free. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years, covering registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so no amount is quoted here.

What is the cheapest way to find out what my child actually needs?+

A single diagnostic session on one marked paper, which ends with a written statement of what pattern connects the lost marks. Many families in this community buy exactly that and nothing else, take the findings to the subject teacher, and decide afterwards. At published Dubai rates of AED 150 to 300 an hour for a qualified tutor, it is the least expensive way to avoid buying the wrong model for a term, which is the real cost in this market.

Do group revision courses work for English Literature?+

For set-text teaching, yes. For exam preparation, only partly, and this is the subject with the widest gap between group and individual value. A literature grade moves through repeated timed essay practice with marked feedback, and nobody can mark thirty students' essays weekly. If a group course is sold as examination preparation in this subject, ask specifically how much of the student's own writing will be marked and returned, and judge the answer.

When should I book, whichever option I choose?+

Earlier than feels necessary, and for structural reasons rather than urgency. Centres fill their revision courses before study leave, and one-to-one specialists in the common subjects fill during the four weeks of study leave before the June series, when every Year 11 family in Dubai is looking at once. The quietest and easiest time to secure anything is the UAE summer and early autumn, when November-series candidates are the only demand in the market.

Is there a case where you would tell me not to hire you?+

Several, and they are on this page. If you want group structure and motivation at a lower unit cost, a centre is the better buy. If you need a physically present adult for a child under about eight, we cannot provide that in the UAE. If the household needs supervision rather than teaching, a cheaper service is the honest answer. And if your question is a single query about one marked answer, the school's clinic will deal with it today for nothing.

What one document makes all of this easier?+

The entry list from the school's exams officer, naming the board, syllabus code and tier for every subject. With it, any provider in any model can be evaluated in five minutes, because you can ask them to describe the papers for that code and listen to whether they can. Without it, the most expensive option in the city can be aimed at the wrong papers and nobody finds out until the mock. It is free and it takes one email to request.

Work out which option you need, then compare properly

If you are searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Discovery Gardens, the first job is diagnosis rather than comparison. Use the school's subject clinic, the KHDA inspection report and the paper-level mock breakdown, all free, to establish what the problem actually is. Then put the six questions on this page to any provider you shortlist, in any model. If one-to-one with a code-matched specialist is what the diagnosis calls for, send us the code, the tier and the hour your household can protect, and we will run a free trial around your child's marked paper. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
