IB Tutor near me in Discovery Gardens

Most searches for an IB tutor near me in Discovery Gardens happen in one of two weeks of the year: after a disappointing mock, or six weeks before the papers. The calendar decides what those sessions can achieve, and nobody tells parents that honestly. This page does. IB Gram matches a subject specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a plan built backwards from the session.

IB & IGCSE in Discovery Gardens

The calendar decides what tutoring can do

Two moments in the year generate almost every tutoring enquiry from this community. The first is the week after mock results, usually in the winter term. The second is around six weeks before the papers, when a student has done the arithmetic and a parent has seen the predicted grades. Both are rational moments to act. They are also, respectively, a good moment and a late one, and the difference is worth understanding before any money is spent.

The reason is structural rather than motivational. Diploma subjects carry internally assessed components worth roughly twenty to thirty per cent of each grade, and those are completed, marked and submitted months before the written papers. A family arriving in the spring is buying help with the remaining marks only. Nothing a tutor does in April reaches an Internal Assessment that went to the school in January.

That single fact reorganises everything. It means the autumn term of Diploma 2 is worth more per hour than the spring, that the mock window is a diagnostic opportunity rather than a verdict, and that an eight-week run-in has a specific and limited job: exam technique on the components still unsat. All of those are useful. None of them is a substitute for having started earlier, and a tutor who implies otherwise is selling.

Discovery Gardens shapes the practical side. It is a high-density apartment community of 291 buildings in themed districts beside Ibn Battuta, with its own Route 2020 metro station. Diploma students travel out of the community for school, mostly to Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha or Al Khail, so they are home from about 16:30 and sessions run at 18:00 or later. Study space is a shared desk rather than a room.

IB Gram delivers one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. In a calendar-driven plan that matters more than it sounds, because a session missed in the final eight weeks can be rescheduled to the next evening rather than lost to the following week, and in a short run-in a week is a large fraction of the time available.

What follows is the year laid out backwards: what each number of remaining weeks can realistically achieve, where the mock window fits, how Ramadan and the UAE academic calendar interact with revision, and what the autumn term buys that the spring cannot. We publish no specific IB exam or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date in front of a parent who acts on it is worse than none. The coordinator's internal calendar is the document that matters anyway, because it carries the deadlines that decide most of the grade.

At a glance

  • Internal Assessments are submitted months before the papers
  • The autumn term of Diploma 2 is the highest-value period of the year
  • A mock is a diagnostic document, not a verdict
  • Ramadan shifts about eleven days earlier each year and affects the spring term
  • UAE schools sit the May session; we publish no unverified IB dates
  • All lessons run online, one-to-one, from 15:30 to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each stage has its own calendar, and the deadlines that matter are mostly internal rather than external. These are the stages a Discovery Gardens family will plan around.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma 1, the year nobody plans

Six subjects begin, the Extended Essay supervisor is assigned, Theory of Knowledge starts, and in several subjects the internal component is begun. Almost no families buy support in this year, and it is the year where support is cheapest per mark protected. Students who establish command-term discipline and criteria habits here need far less later.

Diploma 1 students in Discovery Gardens are settling into a longer commute and a heavier load at once, often having changed schools at 16 because full Diploma provision in this corridor is thinner than further north. A weekly session through this year costs less in total than a spring block in Diploma 2 and reaches marks the later block cannot.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma 2, the year of internal deadlines

The year is shaped by internal submissions rather than by the examinations. Extended Essay final drafts, Theory of Knowledge essays and subject Internal Assessments cluster between the autumn and the late winter, then mocks, then the May session. Each internal deadline is a closing door on a share of a subject grade.

This is when almost all Discovery Gardens enquiries arrive. The useful question on first contact is not which subject but which deadlines are still ahead. Where internal work is still open, the hours should go there first; where it has all been submitted, the plan is exam technique and nothing else, and saying so plainly is part of the service.

MOCKSDiploma 2, winter term

The mock window

Schools run full mock papers under exam conditions, usually in the winter term, and produce a paper-level breakdown that most families never ask for. The mock's value is almost entirely diagnostic: it shows which component is losing marks and whether the cause is content, command terms, method or timing. The grade itself is the least useful output.

Mock results are the single most common trigger for a tutoring enquiry in this community, and the week after them is a good moment to act, provided the paper-level breakdown comes too. Without it, a tutor is working from a grade and a feeling, which produces a generic plan and a term of effort with little to show.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme, the years before

Assessed on four criteria out of eight in each subject group, with no external examinations and therefore no calendar pressure. That absence is why the stage gets skipped, and why Diploma 1 arrives as a shock. The criteria habits built here are exactly what Diploma internal components later assume.

Middle Years students in Discovery Gardens are home earlier, often by 16:00, so a 16:30 session is straightforward to place. Support at this stage is bought by very few families here and is the cheapest insurance available against the Diploma 2 scramble this page is largely about.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The calendar interacts differently with each subject, because the internal components fall at different times and in different forms. These notes name what is time-critical in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The exploration is worth twenty marks and its topic should be settled months before the deadline. In the run-in, Higher Level students need whole Paper 3 questions under timing rather than topic revision, and Analysis and Approaches students need non-calculator fluency maintained rather than rebuilt.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The same twenty-mark exploration on the same timeline. In the final weeks the time-critical work is calculator competence on the school's own model and interpretation of results in context, both of which are quick wins late in the year if they have been neglected.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation is twenty per cent and closes early, so by the spring the available work is Paper 1A timed sets, Paper 1B data processing and Paper 2 command-term discipline. Uncertainty and graph skills are the fastest late improvements in the subject.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Also twenty per cent internally assessed and also closed early. The late-year priorities are mechanism notation, energetics sign conventions and the data booklet, all of which can be fixed in a handful of sessions because they are notational rather than conceptual.

Biology

HL and SL

Late work should focus on precision of language and on statistical treatment of data, both of which are reliably under-taught and reliably examined. A student who learns to name a mechanism and a direction in every answer gains marks across every paper within weeks.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal commentaries spread across the course, so there is usually at least one still open when a family makes contact. Where they are closed, the late-year work is diagrams referenced explicitly in the prose and command-term discipline in extended response.

Business Management

HL and SL

The Higher Level research project needs a real organisation and primary data, so it is the internal component least recoverable from a late start: arranging access takes longer than writing. Where it is done, case-study command terms are the available late work.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral is scheduled by the school and often sits earlier than students expect, which makes it a date to confirm rather than assume. Paper 1 unseen analysis responds well to late work, because the skill is a repeatable approach rather than content.

Language B: Arabic, French, Spanish

HL, SL and ab initio

Oral components are scheduled internally and are the time-critical element. Speaking fluency for the full duration improves with frequent short practice rather than long sessions, so a late start should mean two short sessions a week rather than one long one.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The essay is written to a school deadline from a prescribed title, and the exhibition precedes it. Both are decided by the initial choice, so late help is limited to argument structure on an existing draft. One early session on the title is worth several late ones.

Extended Essay

Core

Final drafts fall in the first part of Diploma 2, so by the spring this is usually closed. Where it is still open, the research question is the first thing to examine, because a question too broad for 4,000 words cannot be fixed by better writing.

Psychology and Geography

HL and SL

Both carry internal components with early internal deadlines and both reward evidence used rather than recited in the papers. Late-year work on using a study or case study to support an argument, rather than describing it, is among the better available improvements.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

The right pattern depends entirely on where in the year you are. These four cover the realistic situations.

Weekly session from the autumn term

One sixty-minute session a week from September, which is the pattern with the highest return and the lowest total cost. It protects internal marks while they are still open, keeps technique improving across both Diploma years, and means the final eight weeks are a refinement rather than a rescue.

  • Starts while internal components are still open
  • Built around the school's internal deadline calendar
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Fewest total hours needed for a given outcome

Post-mock diagnostic block

Three to five sessions immediately after mock results, built on the paper-level breakdown rather than the grade. The job is to establish whether the losses are content, command terms, method or timing, then target the two largest causes. Families who do this in the winter rarely need a panic block in the spring.

  • Requires the paper-level breakdown from the school
  • Errors categorised by cause before anything is taught
  • Produces a written plan with a stated number of sessions
  • Often reveals the problem is not content at all

Eight-week run-in

Two shorter sessions a week for the final eight weeks, on whole timed papers with marked feedback. This is a real and useful purchase provided everyone is honest about its scope: it addresses exam technique on the components still unsat and cannot reach submitted internal work.

  • Whole papers under timing, marked against the real scheme
  • Two or three highest-frequency weaknesses targeted, not the syllabus
  • Rescheduling to the next evening when a session is missed
  • Fixed end date at the start of the session window

Internal Assessment rescue, where still open

A short block on whichever internal components remain unsubmitted, taken in preference to exam revision because the marks are still available. A tutor reads the criteria against the draft, questions the research question, teaches the required technique and gives written feedback on the student's own work only.

  • Prioritised over exam technique while the door is open
  • Criteria read strand by strand against the draft
  • Feedback in writing so the school can see the support
  • No drafting, rewriting or supplied content at any stage

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Discovery Gardens

01

What the weeks you have left can actually achieve

The most useful thing a tutor can tell a Discovery Gardens family on first contact is what is still possible. That depends almost entirely on two variables: how many weeks remain, and whether any internal components are still open. Everything else, subject, level, current grade, matters less than those two, because they determine which marks are reachable at all.

With a full year, everything is reachable. Internal components can be planned rather than rescued, technique can be built across both papers, and content gaps can be closed properly. With a term, internal work that is still open is the priority and exam technique follows. With eight weeks, the job is narrow: the two or three most frequent causes of lost marks, drilled on whole papers under timing.

With four weeks or fewer, the honest plan is narrower still and most providers will not say so. Fresh content teaching across a syllabus is not possible in four weeks, and attempting it produces coverage without consolidation, which is worse than targeting less. What four weeks can do is fix command-term behaviour, improve timing, and drill the two highest-frequency question types in each paper.

None of this is an argument against late help. A well-targeted four-week block moves marks and is worth buying. It is an argument against pretending that a late block does what an early one does, which is the standard claim in this market and the reason families feel misled afterwards. The table below is the version we give on the phone.

The Diploma 2 year, read as a sequence of closing doors

  • Every internal deadline closes a share of a grade permanently
  • Deadlines cluster rather than spreading evenly across the year
  • Ask the coordinator for the internal deadline calendar in September
  • We publish no unverified IB exam or results dates

It helps to think of the year not as a run-up to the examinations but as a sequence of doors that close one at a time. Each internal deadline closes a share of a subject grade permanently. The Extended Essay closes. The Theory of Knowledge essay closes. Each subject's internal component closes. By the time study leave begins, a substantial proportion of the final points total is already fixed and unreachable.

The order varies by school, which is why the school's own internal deadline calendar is the document that should drive any plan. Typically the Extended Essay final draft falls in the first part of Diploma 2, the Theory of Knowledge essay in the same period, and subject Internal Assessments between the autumn and the late winter, with several clustering in the same weeks. Mocks then sit in the winter term.

The practical instruction for a family is to ask the Diploma coordinator for that calendar in September of Diploma 2, or better, of Diploma 1. It is not confidential and it is rarely volunteered. With it, a parent can see where the clusters fall and plan support around them. Without it, the first indication that four deadlines share a fortnight is the fortnight itself.

We publish no specific IB exam or results dates on this site. UAE schools sit the May session and we write about it, but the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so we cannot verify a date to the standard required before putting it in front of a parent who might act on it. The coordinator's calendar is both more accurate and more useful, because it carries the internal deadlines that actually decide the grade.

03

Ramadan, the UAE academic year and where revision actually lands

  • The UAE year is interrupted by a winter and a spring break
  • Ramadan shifts about eleven days earlier each Gregorian year
  • Reduced school hours free earlier slots; energy patterns change
  • Agree in advance that the slot will move rather than lapse

Any revision plan written for a UAE family has to account for the local calendar, and almost no tutoring page does. The UAE academic year runs from late summer to early summer, with a winter break around the turn of the year and a spring break later in the second term. That shape means the Diploma 2 run-in is interrupted twice, and both breaks are opportunities or losses depending on whether anyone planned for them.

Ramadan matters more. It moves roughly eleven days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar, so its position relative to the school year shifts, and in recent years it has fallen in the spring term, overlapping with mock results and the start of serious examination revision. UAE schools operate reduced hours during Ramadan, which changes both the teaching time available and the shape of a student's day.

The practical adjustments are straightforward once anticipated. Reduced school hours free earlier afternoon slots, which is useful. Energy patterns shift, so a 19:00 session may work better than a 17:00 one for a fasting student, or the reverse, and it is worth asking rather than assuming. Long revision blocks are less effective than shorter, more frequent ones during this period for most students.

What goes wrong is only ever the unplanned version: a family books a fixed weekly slot in January, Ramadan arrives, the slot stops working, two sessions are missed and the arrangement quietly lapses in the term that mattered most. Agreeing in advance that the slot will move for that period costs one conversation and protects the plan. In a compressed run-in, two missed sessions is a significant share of the total.

04

What a mock is for, and the document to ask for

  • Ask the school for the paper-level breakdown, not just the grade
  • The same grade can mean three different problems
  • A mock is often the first genuine timed attempt a student makes
  • Three to five post-mock sessions can replace a spring panic block

Mock results are the most common trigger for a tutoring enquiry from this community and the most commonly misused document. Parents read the grade; the grade is the least informative part. What matters is the paper-level breakdown: which component the marks came from, and within it what kind of error recurred. Schools hold that information and frequently do not send it out unless asked directly.

The reason it matters is that identical grades mean opposite things. A 4 produced by one weak paper with the others solid needs targeted component work. A 4 spread evenly across every component needs broad consolidation. A 4 caused by three unfinished papers is a timing problem and nothing else. Those are three different plans, and a tutor working from the grade alone will default to content revision for all three.

A mock also provides the only realistic timing data available before the real papers. Students almost never practise under genuine exam conditions alone, so a mock is often the first full-length timed attempt. If papers were unfinished, that is the headline finding, and it is fixable with practice in a way that content gaps in April are not.

The best use of the week after mocks is therefore diagnostic: three to five sessions working through the breakdown, categorising errors by cause, and producing a written plan with a stated number of sessions. Families in Discovery Gardens who do that in the winter term rarely make a second, more expensive enquiry in the spring, which is the pattern this page is written to interrupt.

05

An eight-week run-in, week by week

Eight weeks is the window most families in this community actually have when they make contact, so it deserves a concrete plan rather than general encouragement. The principle is narrow focus: identify the two or three highest-frequency causes of lost marks from marked papers, then spend the whole eight weeks on those using whole papers under timing. Resist the urge to cover the syllabus, which cannot be done in the time.

The first week is diagnosis and nothing else. Two marked papers, errors categorised by cause, a written plan. The second to fifth weeks are the working period: one timed paper or section set per session, marked strictly against the real scheme in the following session, with the targeted causes reviewed each time. Progress is measurable because the error categories either shrink or they do not.

The sixth and seventh weeks shift to whole papers under full timing, including the components students avoid: the data-based section in the sciences, Paper 3 in Higher Level mathematics, the unseen analysis in literature. These are the components where avoidance is most common and improvement is quickest, precisely because they have been neglected.

The final week is for exam-room behaviour rather than content: reading a paper before starting, allocating time per mark, recognising command terms, knowing when to leave a question and return. Nothing new is taught. Families who try to learn content in the last week lose the consolidation that the previous seven weeks earned, which is the commonest way a good run-in is wasted.

06

What the autumn term buys that the spring cannot

  • Autumn hours reach internal marks that spring hours cannot
  • Specialist availability is widest in September and tightest in January
  • Technique established early applies to eight months of assessment
  • A steady weekly commitment costs less in total than a rescue block

The strongest argument for starting early is not diligence but arithmetic. In the autumn term of Diploma 2, internal components in several subjects are still open, which means a share of twenty to thirty per cent of each of those grades is still reachable. By the spring, most of that is submitted. The same tutor, the same rate and the same number of hours therefore buy access to a smaller pool of marks.

The second advantage is specialist availability, which is a genuine market effect rather than a sales line. In September, tutors in most Diploma subjects have space, so a family in Discovery Gardens can choose on subject and level. In January and February the whole city is looking at once, and the choice narrows to whoever is free in the evening slots that this corridor's commute allows.

The third is that technique improvements compound. Command-term discipline established in October is applied across every assessment for eight months, including the mocks and the internal work. The same improvement made in April applies to the final papers only. That is the same teaching producing several times the benefit, purely because of when it happened.

The fourth is less obvious and matters to households: an early start is cheaper in total. A weekly session across a year at published mid-market online rates of AED 150 to 300 an hour is a steady, plannable commitment. A spring rescue is usually two or three sessions a week at specialist rates, bought under pressure, with a lower ceiling. Those figures are market rates read in October 2026 and not an IB Gram price list.

07

Results, and the decisions that follow quickly

The calendar does not end with the papers. After results there is a short window in which several decisions have to be made, and families who have not anticipated them make them badly. For Diploma students that includes whether to query a result through the school's own process and how that interacts with university offers. The school is the route for all of it, and the timeline is tight rather than generous.

For families in this corridor with younger children sitting IGCSE, the parallel decision is the November series. Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. A resit is worth entering when the paper-level breakdown shows a near miss on one component in a subject needed for an offer, and usually is not when marks sat evenly below target.

The published Pearson dates give a sense of how tight the window is: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Entry decisions for a November series therefore have to be made within days of August results rather than weeks, with the school's exams officer involved from the start.

The useful habit is to review results with the breakdown in hand in the first week rather than the third, and to decide on evidence rather than disappointment. A tutor can help read that breakdown honestly, including when the honest answer is that another sitting is unlikely to move the grade and the energy belongs elsewhere. We would rather say that than sell a second block by default.

08

What a calendar-led tutor does differently, and our limits

  • The first questions are about deadlines, not about grades
  • Open internal work takes priority over exam revision
  • A missed session in a short run-in moves to the next evening
  • No written coursework, no reproduced materials, no grade guarantees

A tutor working from the calendar asks different questions at the start. Not what grade is the student getting, but which internal components are still open, when the school's deadlines fall, when the mocks are, and how many weeks remain. The plan then follows from the answers, and it changes shape as doors close. That is a different service from a weekly hour of general subject support, and it is what this page is describing.

It also means being willing to decline work or reduce it. Where a family arrives with three weeks and six subjects, the useful answer is to pick one subject and one component rather than spread three weeks across everything. Where internal work is still open, exam revision waits. Where the honest assessment is that a block will not move the grade, we say so, and some enquiries end there.

Our delivery limits are the same as on every page of this site. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address; home visiting is a service we offer only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the UAE. In a compressed run-in the online format has a practical advantage, because a missed session moves to the next evening instead of the next week.

On internal work and claims the boundaries are fixed. Tutors read criteria with the student, question a research question, teach technique and give written feedback on the student's own drafts; they do not write, rewrite or supply content. We do not reproduce IB syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes. We hold no accreditation or partnership from the IB, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education, and we do not guarantee grades.

Where we tutor

Discovery Gardens and the corridor around it

These communities share Discovery Gardens' school routes and term calendar. Session timings quoted here apply across the corridor.

Discovery Gardens

An apartment community of 291 buildings in themed districts with its own Route 2020 metro station. Diploma students travel out for school and are home from about 16:30, which places sessions at 18:00 or later in the run-in.

Al Furjan

Villas and townhouses immediately south on shared bus routes. Arrival times are spread wider by long bus loops, which matters most in the final weeks when every evening counts.

The Gardens

The adjoining low-rise community sharing metro access and school routes, with the same term calendar and the same preference for later slots during the exam run-in.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds several schools from this corridor, including IB continuum provision. Students on these routes are home earliest, which gives them the longest usable evening in the final term.

Jebel Ali

Established schools further south. Free zone working hours push many households to 19:00, which is workable online and effectively unavailable from a visiting tutor in evening traffic.

Dubai Production City

Townhouses and apartments along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, closer to the Al Barsha corridor where several full Diploma schools sit, so the commute home is shorter.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest districts with the longest bus runs, so Diploma students here are home latest and lose the most usable evening time during the run-in.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us how many weeks you have

Before the subject, we need the timeline: how many weeks until the papers, and which internal components are still open. Those two answers determine what is reachable, and a provider who does not ask them is going to sell you the same plan whatever month you call in.

  2. 02

    Get the internal deadline calendar

The Diploma coordinator holds it and rarely volunteers it. It shows where internal deadlines cluster, which is what any sensible plan is built around. Ask for it in September of Diploma 1 if you can, and of Diploma 2 at the latest.

  3. 03

    Send the paper-level breakdown

After mocks, ask the school for the component-level detail rather than accepting the grade. Identical grades mean opposite things depending on whether marks were lost in one paper, spread evenly, or lost to unfinished papers. The plan depends entirely on which.

  4. 04

    Free trial, diagnosis first

The trial is built on two marked papers and ends with errors categorised by cause: command term, method, reading, timing, content. No payment is taken and there is no obligation. If the diagnosis says tutoring is not the right purchase for the time remaining, we will say that.

  5. 05

Agree a plan with a stated end date

A weekly slot for a term, a post-mock block of three to five sessions, or an eight-week run-in with a fixed finish. Knowing the number of sessions in advance is what stops a compressed run-in turning into an open monthly charge nobody reviews.

  6. 06

Plan around Ramadan and the breaks

Agree at the start that the slot will move during Ramadan and across the winter and spring breaks, rather than discovering it. In a short run-in, two sessions lost to an unplanned calendar clash is a large share of the total time available.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Honest about what a late start reaches

Internal components are submitted months before the papers, so hours bought in the spring cannot touch twenty to thirty per cent of each subject grade. We say that on the first call, because a family who understands it buys the right thing rather than feeling misled in July.

Plans built from the school's own calendar

The coordinator's internal deadline calendar shows where the clusters fall, and that is what the plan is organised around. Working from the examination month alone ignores the deadlines that actually decide most of the grade.

Diagnosis before teaching

The first session categorises errors by cause from marked papers. Nine lost marks usually come from two causes, and content revision is the default answer for all of them only when nobody has looked properly.

The UAE calendar accounted for

Ramadan shifts about eleven days earlier each year and UAE schools run reduced hours during it, which changes both available time and energy patterns. We agree in advance how the slot moves, rather than losing sessions in the term that matters most.

Rescheduling that protects a short window

Online delivery means a missed session moves to the next evening rather than the next week. Across an eight-week run-in from this corridor, where Diploma students are home late, that difference is several usable sessions.

Willing to decline the work

Where three weeks remain and six subjects need help, the useful answer is one subject and one component. Where a block will not move the grade, we say so. That costs us enquiries and is the reason to trust the rest of the page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Discovery Gardens: your questions answered

We have eight weeks before the IB papers. Is it worth starting now?+

Yes, with a narrow plan. Eight weeks can address the two or three highest-frequency causes of lost marks, drilled on whole papers under timing, plus the components students avoid such as the data-based section in the sciences or Paper 3 in Higher Level mathematics. What it cannot do is reach submitted Internal Assessment marks, which are typically twenty to thirty per cent of each subject grade, or cover a syllabus. A plan that promises both is not a plan.

Why can tutoring in the spring not fix an Internal Assessment?+

Because it has already gone to the school. Internal components are completed, marked internally and submitted months before the written papers, along with the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay. Once submitted, those marks are fixed. Tutoring after that point works on the remaining written components only, which is a smaller pool. This is the single most important reason the autumn term of Diploma 2 is worth more per hour than the spring.

What should I ask the school for after mock results?+

The paper-level breakdown, not just the grade. Identical grades mean opposite things: a 4 from one weak paper needs targeted component work, a 4 spread evenly needs broad consolidation, and a 4 caused by unfinished papers is a timing problem with a completely different fix. Schools hold this detail and often do not send it unless asked. Without it, a tutor is working from a grade and a feeling and will default to content revision.

How does Ramadan change a Diploma revision plan in Dubai?+

It shifts roughly eleven days earlier each Gregorian year, so its position in the school year moves, and in recent years it has fallen in the spring term overlapping mock results and the start of serious revision. UAE schools run reduced hours during it, which frees earlier afternoon slots and changes energy patterns through the day. The practical step is agreeing in advance that the session slot will move for that period, rather than losing two sessions and letting the arrangement lapse.

When is the best month to start IB tutoring for a Discovery Gardens student?+

September, and preferably September of Diploma 1. Internal components are still open then, so hours reach marks that later hours cannot. Specialist availability is also widest, so you choose on subject and level rather than on who is free; by January the whole city is looking for the same evening slots. And technique improvements made early apply to eight months of assessment including the mocks, rather than to the final papers alone.

Which document should drive a tutoring plan?+

The school's internal deadline calendar, held by the Diploma coordinator. It shows when the Extended Essay draft, the Theory of Knowledge essay and each subject's Internal Assessment are due, and crucially where those cluster, because they rarely spread evenly. Four deadlines in one fortnight is a predictable event and the commonest cause of a dropped grade. Ask for the calendar in September; it is not confidential and it is almost never volunteered.

What does the final week before the papers get used for?+

Exam-room behaviour, not content. Reading a paper before starting, allocating time per mark, checking the command term before writing, and knowing when to leave a question and come back. Nothing new should be taught. Families who try to learn fresh content in the last week lose the consolidation the previous weeks earned, which is the most common way a well-run eight-week block gets wasted at the very end.

Are IB exam and results dates listed on this page?+

No. UAE schools sit the Diploma in the May session and we write about that session, but we publish no specific IB exam or results dates, because the IB's own site blocks automated checking and an unverified date in front of a parent who acts on it is worse than no date. Your child's Diploma coordinator holds both the examination information and the internal deadline calendar, and the latter is the one that actually shapes the year.

My child has four weeks and six subjects. What do we do?+

Pick one subject and one component. Spreading four weeks across six subjects produces an hour of attention on each and no measurable change anywhere. Choose the subject where a grade boundary is closest and where the marked papers show a single dominant error cause, then spend the whole four weeks on that. It is a smaller ambition and it is the only version with a realistic chance of moving a result in the time available.

Should a student still do mocks seriously if the grade will not count?+

Yes, and more seriously than most do. A mock is usually the first full-length timed attempt a student makes, which makes it the only realistic timing data available before the real papers. If papers were unfinished, that is the headline finding and it is highly fixable. Treating mocks as a rehearsal rather than a verdict is the right framing, and the output that matters is the breakdown rather than the grade on the front.

What time do sessions run for a Diploma student in Discovery Gardens?+

Usually 18:00 or later on weekdays. Students here travel out of the community for school, mostly to Dubai Investments Park, Al Barsha or Al Khail, so they are home from about 16:30 and later with a Creativity, Activity, Service commitment or a fixture. Sessions run to 21:30 Gulf Standard Time. In a compressed run-in the useful detail is that a missed session can move to the next evening rather than the next week, because nobody is travelling.

Is it ever right to say tutoring will not help?+

Yes, and we do. With two weeks left and losses spread evenly across every component in several subjects, a block of sessions will not change the outcome and the student's time is better spent on their own structured revision and sleep. We would rather say that and lose the enquiry than take a payment for a plan with no realistic path to a different result. That position is also why the rest of this page is worth believing.

How should the winter and spring breaks be used?+

Deliberately, which usually means a short block rather than either nothing or a full timetable. The breaks interrupt the Diploma 2 run-in twice, and they are the only periods with whole days available. Three or four well-targeted sessions across a break, on whole timed papers with marked feedback, is worth more than a daily schedule that collapses after three days. Agree the block before the break starts, because specialists fill those weeks quickly.

My younger child is sitting IGCSE. When do we decide about a November resit?+

Within days of August results, not weeks. Cambridge runs IGCSE in June and November, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Published Pearson dates show how the calendar runs: June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. Review the paper-level breakdown in the first week with the exams officer involved, and decide on evidence rather than disappointment.

Can a tutor still help with an Internal Assessment that has not been submitted?+

Yes, and it should take priority over exam revision while the door is open, because those marks are still available. A tutor may read the criteria strand by strand against the draft, question the research question, teach the technique the component requires, and give written feedback on the student's own work. A tutor may not write, rewrite, outline for completion or supply content. Feedback is given in writing so the school can see the nature of the support.

What is the single biggest calendar mistake families here make?+

Waiting for a bad result before acting. The result that prompts the call usually arrives after the internal components have closed, which means the enquiry happens at the exact point when the available ceiling has dropped. The second biggest is booking a fixed weekly slot without planning for Ramadan and the breaks, so sessions are lost in the term that mattered most and the arrangement quietly lapses rather than being rescheduled.
