IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Furjan

The real question behind every search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Furjan is simpler than it looks: is there anyone here who actually knows this syllabus? This page answers it honestly. It gives you the five questions that separate a subject specialist from a competent generalist, sets out who is in the Dubai tutor pool, and explains how IB Gram matches by syllabus code and teaches one-to-one over live video.

  • Matched on the syllabus code from your child's entry list
  • Tutor named and their components stated before the first lesson
  • Lessons one-to-one over live video; no tutor visits a UAE address
  • Free trial built around a marked paper you provide

IB & IGCSE in Al Furjan

Proximity is easy to verify. Syllabus knowledge is not.

A search for a tutor near you returns distance, and distance is the one thing about a tutor that does not affect a grade. What a parent in Al Furjan actually needs to know is whether the person on the other end of the enquiry has taught the specific syllabus their child is entered for, can name the papers, knows which tier caps which grade, and has marked work against the board's own conventions. None of that is visible from a listing or a community group recommendation.

This matters more in Al Furjan than in some other parts of Dubai, because the local pool is small. The community sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Yalayis Road, residential rather than academic, with Discovery Gardens to the north and Dubai Investments Park to the south. The tutors who will drive into the villa districts for a 17:00 start are a limited group, and choosing from a limited group means accepting whoever is in it.

The failure mode is quiet. A competent tutor teaches good lessons on the wrong board's material. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is syllabus 0580 and the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE equivalent is 4MA1; the tier names, paper structure, formula provision and mark-scheme conventions differ. Six weeks in, the student is still underperforming and nothing in the lessons looks wrong. That is a term lost to a question nobody asked at the start.

So this page is a verification guide rather than a sales page. It gives you five questions to put to any tutor, in Al Furjan or anywhere else, and tells you what a good answer sounds like. It describes the categories of people who make up the Dubai IGCSE tutor pool and what each is genuinely good for. It explains why knowing a syllabus means knowing a mark scheme. And it says plainly where the honest answer is that nobody available covers your subject.

IB Gram's own position: we match on the board and syllabus code you give us, name the tutor and their components before the first lesson, and deliver every UAE session one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time between 15:30 and 21:30. No tutor attends a UAE address, because home visiting is a service we run only in India. If physical presence is what you need, this is the point to stop reading rather than after a phone call.

One practical instruction before the detail. Ask the school's exams officer for your child's entry list. It shows the board and the code for every subject, and several schools in this corridor enter different boards in different departments. That single document turns a vague search into a specific one, and it is free. Everything else on this page is easier once you have it in front of you.

At a glance

  • Get the entry list from the school: it names the board and syllabus code per subject
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams with different tiering
  • UAE candidates sit the June and November series; February and March is India-only
  • Cambridge allocates each centre to one of six zones, each with its own timetable
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid two years; ask whether a tutor holds it
  • Lessons here run online, one-to-one, with the tutor named in advance
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Verification looks different at each stage, because the evidence available changes. These are the three stages either side of the Year 11 papers and what you can actually check at each.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9

No external assessment, so there is nothing to verify a tutor against except their explanation of what they are building. What they should be building is narrow and checkable: algebraic fluency, formula rearrangement without guessing, and paragraphs that answer the question asked. A tutor who cannot name the specific skills they are developing at this stage is working on generalities.

In Al Furjan this is the stage where verification is easiest to skip and most useful. Year 8 and 9 students are home before 16:30, so a session fits earlier in the afternoon than any Year 11 slot. It is also when the school decides tier recommendations, and a tutor who can read marked work against the Extended tier requirement is giving you information the report card does not.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE and International GCSE, Years 10 to 11

Two years, terminal written papers, and a grade largely decided by mark-scheme compliance rather than by knowledge. A tutor who knows this syllabus can name the paper numbers, state what each is worth, describe the tiering, and explain the difference between describe, explain and evaluate in that board's wording. That is the whole verification test, and it takes five minutes.

This is where nearly every Al Furjan enquiry sits. Year 11 students in this corridor reach home between 15:40 and 16:30, later with a school revision clinic, so a 17:00 or 17:30 start is normal. Verification matters most here because there is no second chance within the two years: the terminal papers arrive once, and the November series is the only other route.

POST16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

Advanced Level or IB Diploma afterwards

The Year 11 grade profile decides which post-16 routes stay open. Most British-curriculum schools want grade 6 or 7 in a subject before accepting it at Advanced Level, and IB Diploma Higher Level entry usually asks the same. A tutor who understands this talks about tier and target grade together rather than treating them as separate conversations.

Al Furjan families moving from IGCSE into the IB Diploma generally change schools, because full Diploma provision in the Jebel Ali corridor is thinner than further north. The widest gap in the whole transition is mathematics: Extended IGCSE builds procedure, while Mathematics Analysis and Approaches Higher Level expects calculus notation and sustained proof from the first term.

RESITAny Year 11 or post-16 candidate

The November series and resit route

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. A resit is worth entering when the paper-level breakdown shows a near miss on one component in a subject needed for an offer, and is usually the wrong answer when marks were spread evenly below target across every paper.

The November route is the easiest time of year to verify and secure a specialist, because demand across Dubai collapses after August results. For an Al Furjan family that means a genuine choice of tutor rather than whoever is left, and sessions running through the UAE summer when nothing else is competing for the evening.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What counts as syllabus knowledge differs by subject. For each of these, the note names the specific thing a tutor should be able to tell you in the first conversation.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580; Pearson 4MA1

Ask which tier your child is entered for and what grade it caps at. A tutor who knows this subject talks about method marks before answers, and can explain why a correct final answer with no working scores below a wrong answer with sound method in a multi-step question.

Additional and Further Pure Mathematics

Cambridge 0606; Pearson 4PM1

Ask how much calculus the paper examines and how it differs from the main entry. This is the best bridge into Advanced Level or Diploma mathematics and the most under-taught subject in this corridor, so a tutor who has actually taught it is worth holding onto.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Ask whether the entry carries a laboratory paper or the alternative-to-practical written paper. A specialist will then talk about gradients, unit conversion and naming control variables, because that is where the marks go, rather than about which topics are hardest.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Ask how they teach the chemical tests. The right answer involves observations and conclusions rather than a memorised list, because the paper asks what you would see and what it shows. Mole calculations are the other reliable source of lost marks across every cohort.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Ask what makes an answer about an increase score zero. A specialist will say immediately that naming the mechanism and the direction is required and that vague cause-and-effect answers earn nothing. Genetic crosses and required practical technique are the other two recoverable areas.

Coordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

Ask which award the school entered, because double and single award differ in content and in what they allow afterwards. A weakness in one discipline is carried into every paper here, so a tutor needs to be credible across all three rather than strong in one.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990; Pearson 4EA1

Ask what a reading question rewards. The answer should be selective quotation with precise explanation of effect, not summary. A tutor who talks about writing everything the student noticed is describing the commonest way marks are lost in this paper.

English Literature

Cambridge 0475 and 0992; Pearson 4ET1

Ask how they mark a timed essay. The grade depends on argument structure and embedded quotation rather than plot recall, and the only intervention that moves it is repeated timed writing with marked feedback, which is labour-intensive and therefore a useful honesty test.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Ask them to distinguish explain, analyse and evaluate in that board's wording. Students who write the same paragraph shape for all three cap out around grade 6, and a tutor who cannot separate them cannot fix it.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Ask about pseudocode conventions. Confident coders routinely lose marks writing pseudocode that does not follow the board's own notation, which is a narrow and quickly closed gap but only if the tutor knows the convention exists.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470; Pearson 4GE1 and 4HI1

Ask what a source question expects. Content recall without mark-scheme awareness is the standard failure in both subjects, and a tutor who talks only about case studies has not seen enough marked scripts.

Arabic as a first and additional language

Cambridge 0508 and 0544

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic to all pupils under KHDA rules, in separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. Ask which entry your child sits, since first language and additional language are different qualifications, and support works from the school's own prescribed material.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Once a tutor is verified, the question becomes how often. These are the three patterns that work for Year 10 and Year 11 in this corridor.

Weekly session alongside the school's teaching

One sixty-minute session a week, working from the school's own scheme of work and its marked assessments rather than running a parallel course. This is the pattern that lets a tutor verify their own usefulness week by week, because they see every returned piece of work and can show you the pattern in it.

  • Same tutor and slot through the term, matched to the entry code
  • Built around the school's marked assessments
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise
  • Early flag if the entry tier looks wrong for the target grade

Paper drilling from the mock window onward

Two shorter sessions a week: a timed paper set in one, marked feedback in the next, with errors grouped by command term and topic rather than by question number. This is the pattern where syllabus knowledge becomes visible, because a tutor who does not know the mark scheme cannot mark the paper usefully.

  • Timed past paper by component, then marked discussion
  • Errors grouped by type to show the pattern
  • Short gap between sessions so set work gets done
  • Runs as a defined block with an end date

Single diagnostic session

One session, one marked paper, one question: what pattern connects the lost marks? Some Al Furjan families use this on its own, take the written findings to the school, and decide afterwards whether ongoing tutoring is needed. It is the cheapest honest way to test both the tutor and the problem.

  • Built entirely around work the student has already had marked
  • Produces written findings you can show the school
  • No commitment to a term or a block afterwards
  • Often reveals a timing or command-term issue rather than a content gap

November series preparation

A block running through the UAE summer and autumn for candidates entered for the November series, whether as a first entry or a resit. Specialist availability is at its widest in these months because Dubai demand collapses after August results, so verification is easier and choice is real.

  • Planned from the published official timetable, not from memory
  • Focused on the specific papers that pulled the grade down
  • Entry deadlines confirmed with the school's exams officer
  • Widest choice of specialist in the tutoring year

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Furjan

01

What a search for a tutor near you actually returns

  • Listings rank by distance and placement, not by syllabus match
  • Ask who teaches, from where, and in which time zone
  • A local-looking page may route to an overseas number
  • The entry list from school is the only filter that matters

A proximity search ranks by distance and by who has paid to appear, and neither correlates with teaching the right syllabus. What comes back is a mix of agencies with managed rosters, international marketplaces listing tutors in other time zones, freelance tutors advertising in community groups, and tuition centres selling group courses. Each of those is a different product and a different risk, and the listing does not distinguish them.

The second thing a proximity search hides is time-zone and location reality. Two of the most visible competitor pages in this market route UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, and one shows a Dubai footer address on a page written for Abu Dhabi. A page can appear local without anything behind it being local, and the only reliable test is asking directly who will teach, from where, and in which time zone.

The third is the board. Nothing in a listing tells you whether the tutor teaches Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel, and in Dubai both are common. Several schools in this corridor enter Cambridge in one department and Pearson in another, so even a tutor who teaches at your child's school may know the wrong set of papers for the subject you need. That is not incompetence; it is a mismatch nobody checked.

What replaces proximity as a useful filter is the syllabus code. Get the entry list from the school's exams officer, which names the board and code for every subject, and use it as the first question in every enquiry. IB Gram matches on that code and names the tutor and their components before any lesson. The lesson itself runs one-to-one over live video; no tutor attends a UAE address.

02

Five questions that separate a specialist from a generalist

Verification takes about five minutes if you ask the right things. The questions below are not technical tests of the tutor; they are tests of whether they have taught this specific qualification to this specific board recently enough to remember how it is marked. A tutor who has will answer all five without hesitating. A tutor who has not will answer in generalities that sound reasonable.

The pattern to listen for is specificity about assessment rather than about content. Anyone can say that electricity is a hard topic in Physics. A specialist says that students lose marks on gradient calculations because they read coordinates off the plotted points rather than from the line of best fit. The first is a topic observation; the second is a mark-scheme observation, and only the second changes a grade.

Watch for one particular evasion. Asked which board they teach, a weak answer is that the syllabuses are broadly similar. They are not, in the ways that matter: tier names, paper counts, formula provision and mark-scheme conventions all differ between Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel for the same subject. A tutor who treats that as a detail is telling you they work from generic material.

Finally, ask what they will not do. A tutor who volunteers that they teach technique and give feedback on the student's own work but do not write or rewrite assessed work is describing the correct boundary unprompted. In a market where at least one provider openly sells completed coursework, that answer is informative about everything else in the arrangement.

03

Who is actually in the Dubai IGCSE tutor pool

The pool is not one group of people and the differences are practical rather than snobbish. School teachers tutoring privately bring current classroom and marking experience, but they are constrained: ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. So the appealing option of hiring your child's own teacher is the one specifically excluded.

Recent graduates and university students are the budget end of the market, and published rates reflect it: Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 per hour. They are genuinely useful for structured homework support and for keeping a capable student moving. They are not usually the right choice for a tiering decision, a coursework boundary question or a mark-scheme diagnosis, because they have never marked to a published scheme.

Career tutors and agency rosters sit in the AED 150 to 450 band, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase AED 270. This is where board-specific experience concentrates, and it is the group worth putting the five questions to, because within it the range of actual syllabus knowledge is wide. The examiner-experienced end of the market, where BartyED publishes AED 650, is rarely necessary before the final two terms.

Then there are overseas online tutors, who may be excellent and may be teaching a different qualification under a similar name. GCSE and IGCSE are not identical, and a tutor trained on the English domestic GCSE may not know the International GCSE papers your child sits. Ask the question directly. All rates quoted here are published market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

04

Knowing the syllabus means knowing the mark scheme

  • Command terms decide the shape of the answer, not just its content
  • Method marks reward working, so calculator-only answers lose marks
  • Practical papers reward specific recordable behaviours
  • None of these are content gaps, so topic revision does not fix them

Parents reasonably assume that a tutor who knows the subject knows what the exam wants. At IGCSE those are different bodies of knowledge. The subject is the content; the exam is a set of conventions about how that content must be expressed to earn a mark. A graduate chemist can explain a reaction mechanism beautifully and still not know that the paper awards a mark for the observation and a separate mark for the conclusion.

The clearest example is command terms. Describe, explain, compare and evaluate each require a different shape of answer, and the boards publish what each one means. A student who writes a description when the paper asked for an explanation loses the marks regardless of how accurate the description is. A tutor who knows the syllabus corrects that in the first session; a tutor who knows only the subject may never notice it.

The second example is method marks in mathematics. In a multi-step question, a wrong final answer with sound working often scores more than a correct answer with no working. Students who do everything on the calculator lose marks they have genuinely earned. This is not a content gap and no amount of topic revision fixes it, which is why topic-based tutoring can run for a term without moving a grade.

The third is practical skills in science. Whether the entry carries a laboratory paper or the alternative-to-practical written paper, the marks go to specific behaviours: units in the table heading, a scale that fills the grid, a named control variable with a method for controlling it, an explained anomaly rather than a circled one. Those are trainable in a handful of sessions, and they are where a specialist earns their rate.

05

What a tutor should be able to tell you about the papers

A short test that works well on a first call: ask the tutor to describe the assessment structure of the subject without looking anything up. Not the content, the structure. How many papers, roughly what each is worth, what tier applies, and whether there is a practical or coursework component. Someone teaching that qualification this year will do it immediately. Someone working from generic material will offer to send details later.

The reason this works is that structure is what planning depends on. If a student is losing marks predominantly on one component, the revision plan should weight that component, and that is impossible to design without knowing what each is worth. A plan that treats every paper as equal is a plan written by someone who does not know which paper matters most for this student.

Boards differ here in ways that matter. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel structure the same subject differently, assess practical skills by different routes, and provide different formula support in the exam room. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge runs June and November and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, stating that it is essential to use the correct zone timetable and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

One caution on documents. We do not reproduce or distribute board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, and nor should any tutor. The correct practice is to cite and link the official source and work from material the school has issued to the student. A tutor offering you a folder of downloaded papers and mark schemes is offering something that is not theirs to give.

WHAT A TUTOR SHOULD KNOW WITHOUT CHECKING, BY SUBJECT
SubjectShould be able to stateThe detail that reveals real experienceWhere the entry varies
MathematicsTier, paper count and calculator provisionWhy method marks beat a bare correct answerCore and Extended, or Foundation and Higher

How a parent in Al Furjan verifies the permit and the claims

  • Ask directly whether the tutor holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free for two years, so no permit fee can be passed on
  • KHDA licenses schools and institutes, not individual tutors
  • Treat untraceable star ratings and unevidenced examiner claims with caution

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit, and the facts are simple enough to check in a single question. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 on private tuition work permits, issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The ministry's service page is titled Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, and runs through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system.

The permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and because no fine schedule has been published this page quotes no amount.

Then verify the claims rather than the credentials. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, which means school licensing and inspection, not tutor approval. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a separate licence issued to training institutes operating premises in Dubai. So a claim of KHDA endorsement for an individual tutor describes something that does not exist in that form. IB Gram holds no such approval and does not claim one.

Be equally careful with examiner claims and review scores. Describing a tutor as a current examiner is only meaningful with evidence of current status, and examiner status does not give anyone access to marking, boundaries or paper content. On reviews, one competitor shows two different star ratings and review counts on the same page. A rating you cannot trace to countable, dated reviews is a marketing figure.

07

Try the free options before you pay for anything

Two useful things in this market cost nothing, and a family that tries them first buys tutoring more intelligently afterwards. The first is the school's own subject clinic or support session. The teacher who set the assessment is the person best placed to explain the marking of it, and in most Dubai schools that time exists and is under-used. It is limited and rarely diagnostic across a whole subject, but it is free and immediate.

The second is the KHDA inspection report for your child's school. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports, which name subject-level strengths and weaknesses rather than giving a single verdict. For an Al Furjan parent deciding whether a weak mathematics result is a child problem or a department problem, that document answers the question before any tutor is hired.

Third, ask for the paper-level breakdown of your child's last mock. Schools hold it and often do not send it out. A grade 5 that came from one weak component is a different problem from a grade 5 spread evenly across every paper, and the two need opposite plans. This is also the document that makes a trial lesson useful rather than conversational.

Only after those three does a paid tutor become a well-specified purchase: you know the subject, the component, the pattern of lost marks and whether the school can address it. That is what we ask for at the start, and it is why our free trial is built around a marked paper you provide rather than around a general conversation about how your child is finding school.

08

When the honest answer is that nobody available covers it

  • Core IGCSE subjects usually matched within a few days
  • Additional Mathematics and Arabic first language take longer
  • Study leave before the June series is the tightest period of the year
  • If we cannot cover a subject we say so rather than substituting

Every tutoring page in this market implies a bottomless roster. The truthful position is that some subjects at some times are not available, and an Al Furjan family deserves that answer before paying rather than after. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English at IGCSE are usually matched within a few days. Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics, Arabic as a first language, Computer Science and the smaller humanities entries take longer.

Timing compounds it. In the four weeks of study leave before the June series, every Year 11 family in Dubai is looking at once, and specialists in the common subjects fill first. In the summer and autumn, when November-series candidates are the only demand, the same specialists have space. So the same request produces a different answer depending entirely on the month in which it is made.

When the right specialist is not free for your slot, we give one of three answers: a different time with the correct tutor, a short wait with a date attached, or a straight recommendation to look elsewhere. We will not put a tutor who teaches the other board on the call, and we will not describe a generalist as a specialist. That substitution is the exact failure this page exists to help you avoid.

The free trial is where all of this gets tested, by you rather than by us. Bring the marked paper, ask what pattern connects the lost marks, and judge the answer. Nothing is paid, and if the match is wrong you say so and we try once more or stop. Treating that hour as an interview is the single most useful thing an Al Furjan parent can do in this process.

Where we tutor

Al Furjan and the corridor a Dubai tutor would drive

These are the communities a visiting tutor reaches on the same journey as Al Furjan. Families here are drawing on the same small local pool, which is why verification matters across the whole corridor.

Al Furjan

Villas and townhouses across four districts with two Route 2020 metro stations. Residential rather than academic, so the number of IGCSE subject specialists who live within a short drive is genuinely small.

Discovery Gardens

Apartment blocks immediately north, feeding many of the same British-curriculum schools and drawing on the same tutor pool. Families here verify online tutors more readily because hosting a visitor is impractical.

Dubai Investments Park

Holds several of the schools Al Furjan children attend, which means some teachers are already in the area by day. That is the one place in this corridor where a locally based subject specialist is reasonably likely.

Jebel Ali

South of Al Furjan with established schools and long-settled families. Parents working in the free zone often need a 19:00 start, which the local in-home pool largely cannot serve.

Green Community

Low-rise housing inside Dubai Investments Park, minutes from school. The shortest school run in the corridor and the earliest workable session start, from around 15:50.

Dubai South and Emaar South

The newest districts, furthest from the city's tutor supply, with the longest bus runs. Verification matters most here because the available local pool for any given subject may be one person.

Dubai Production City

Townhouses and apartments along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, closer to the Al Barsha school and tutor cluster. Board entries across its schools are mixed, so the code check is essential.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the entry list and send us the codes

The school's exams officer holds the list naming the board and syllabus code for every subject. Send those rather than subject names. For an Al Furjan family the second thing we need is the earliest time your child is at the desk after the bus, which decides which specialists are actually available.

We name the tutor and their components

Before any lesson you are told who will teach, which board they work to, and which components they have taught or marked. If we cannot match the exact code we say so rather than offering a near equivalent, because practice papers from the wrong board waste a term without looking like a mistake.

  3. 03

Put the five questions to them yourself

Use the verification table on this page during the trial. Ask for the paper structure from memory, ask where students lose marks, and listen for mark-scheme answers rather than topic answers. You are better placed to judge that than any testimonial on any website.

  4. 04

Free trial around a marked paper you provide

Bring a marked paper or returned assessment. Forty to sixty minutes is enough for the tutor to name the pattern in the lost marks and for you to judge whether the answer was specific. No payment is taken and there is no obligation to continue afterwards.

  5. 05

Fix the slot and the plan in writing

A weekly slot for the term or a defined block with an end date, plus a short written note after every session naming what was covered and what was set. That record is how you keep verifying the arrangement after the first week rather than trusting it indefinitely.

  6. 06

    Review against the paper breakdown

Every few weeks we check progress against the component-level evidence rather than against hours taught. Before mocks that usually means two shorter sessions a week on timed papers; afterwards it returns to one. The plan follows the marked evidence.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the code, not the subject name

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different exams. We match on the code from your child's entry list and confirm it before the trial, because competent teaching aimed at the wrong papers is the commonest waste in this market and the hardest to spot.

The tutor is named before you commit

You know who will teach, which board they work to, and which components they have taught, before any lesson. That is what makes verification possible, and it is the thing most listings and agency enquiries do not give you.

A pool larger than the Al Furjan map

In-home hiring here draws from whoever will drive into the villa districts for 17:00. Online draws from everyone available in UAE evening hours, which is how a family in Masakin reaches an Additional Mathematics specialist at all.

Regulators described, never claimed

KHDA licenses schools and institutes; MoHRE permits individual tutors. We explain both and claim neither. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership, and says so rather than letting the ambiguity work in our favour.

No untraceable statistics

There is no self-reported star rating, no satisfaction percentage and no student count on this page. Every AED figure names the provider that published it and the month it was read. Figures without a source are the normal currency of this market and they are worth nothing.

A stated boundary on assessed work

Tutors teach technique and give written feedback on the student's own drafts. They do not write, rewrite or supply submitted content. Where a provider in this market sells completed coursework, a clear boundary in writing is what protects your child's entry.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Furjan: your questions answered

Is there anyone in Al Furjan who genuinely knows my child's IGCSE syllabus?+

Possibly, and the way to find out is the entry list rather than a community recommendation. Al Furjan is residential rather than academic, so the number of subject specialists within a short drive is small, and smaller still once you require a specific board. Get the board and syllabus code from the school's exams officer, then ask any tutor to state the paper structure for that code from memory. Someone teaching it this year answers immediately. That question filters the local pool faster than anything else available to you.

Why does the exam board matter so much if the subject is the same?+

Because the exam is not the subject. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580 and the Pearson Edexcel International GCSE equivalent is 4MA1, and between them the tier names, paper count, formula provision and mark-scheme conventions all differ. A tutor working from the wrong board's material teaches good lessons that aim at the wrong target. Nothing about those lessons looks wrong, which is why the mistake survives for a term. Several Dubai schools also enter different boards in different departments, so one student can need two sets of papers.

Can I just hire a teacher from my child's own school privately?+

That is the one arrangement the rules specifically exclude. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. A teacher from a different school is a different matter, and brings current marking experience with them. What your child's own teacher can legitimately give is time in the school's subject clinic.

What single question best exposes a tutor who does not know the papers?+

Ask where students lose marks in this subject, and listen to whether the answer is about a topic or about the mark scheme. A topic answer, such as electricity being difficult, is something anyone could say. A mark-scheme answer, such as students reading gradients from plotted points instead of the line of best fit, or writing a description where the paper asked for an explanation, can only come from someone who has marked scripts. Only mark-scheme errors are quickly recoverable, so only the second answer is useful to you.

Does a university student tutor at AED 50 an hour ever make sense?+

For structured homework support and keeping a capable student moving, yes, and published Dubai rates at that end run AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya and AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik. What that tier cannot usually do is diagnose a mark-scheme pattern, advise on a tiering decision, or hold a coursework boundary, because nobody in it has marked to a published scheme. Spending AED 50 an hour on the wrong task costs more than spending AED 200 on the right one. Match the tier to the problem rather than to the budget.

How can I tell whether an online tutor teaches International GCSE or the English GCSE?+

Ask outright, because the qualifications are not identical and a tutor trained on the English domestic GCSE may not know the International GCSE papers your child sits. Follow it with the code question: name the syllabus, and ask them to describe the components. A specialist in Cambridge 0620 or Pearson 4CH1 will do it without checking. This matters particularly for overseas online tutors, who may be excellent teachers of a qualification with a similar name and a different paper structure.

What does the KHDA inspection report tell an Al Furjan parent before hiring anyone?+

Whether the problem is your child or the department. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes reports that name subject-level strengths and weaknesses rather than giving one overall verdict. If mathematics attainment is flagged across the school, a tutor is addressing a structural issue and should be briefed accordingly. If the department is strong and your child is not, the diagnosis is individual. The report is free and public, and almost nobody reads it before buying tutoring.

My child got a grade 5 in the mock. What should I ask the school for?+

The paper-level breakdown, which schools hold and often do not send out. A grade 5 produced by one weak component is a different problem from a grade 5 spread evenly across every paper, and the two need opposite plans: targeted component drilling in the first case, broad consolidation in the second. Without that breakdown any tutoring plan is guesswork. It is also the document that turns a trial lesson into a diagnosis rather than a conversation about how your child is finding school.

Can a tutor give me past papers and mark schemes to work through at home?+

A tutor should not be distributing them, and one offering a folder of downloaded board material is offering something that is not theirs to give. IB Gram cites and links official sources and works from material the school has issued to the student. Reproducing syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables is a copyright matter, and for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure for the student. Ask the school what it can release; most will share past papers for the student's own entry.

How quickly can a verified IGCSE specialist actually start in this corridor?+

For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, usually within a few days. Additional Mathematics, Further Pure Mathematics, Arabic as a first language, Computer Science and the smaller humanities entries take longer at any time of year. Availability tightens sharply during the four weeks of study leave before the June series, when every Year 11 family in Dubai is looking at once, and is at its widest in the summer when November-series candidates are the only demand. The same request gets a different answer in different months.

Should I trust a tutoring site that advertises a 4.9 star rating?+

Only if the reviews are countable, dated and attributable. One competitor in this market displays two different ratings and review counts on the same page, and another shows a perfect score from twenty reviews next to a student count it cannot support. Self-asserted rating markup is against Google's structured-data policy and, as a commercial representation in the UAE, carries consumer-protection exposure. This page carries no rating, no satisfaction percentage and no student count, because we cannot produce the underlying data for any of them.

What should a first session look like if the tutor really knows the syllabus?+

It should start with your child's marked work rather than with a syllabus overview. Within twenty minutes the tutor should be naming a pattern: command-term errors in extended response, method marks lost to calculator-only working, units misplaced in practical tables. By the end you should have a stated number of sessions and a specific first target. A first session spent on introductions, a diagnostic quiz and a general plan is a sales call, and you have learned nothing you could not have read on a website.

Is online tuition a compromise for a Year 11 student in this part of Dubai?+

For Year 10 and Year 11 work it is usually the better option, because what decides the grade is the match on board and component rather than physical presence. A session is largely a marked paper, a mark scheme and a discussion of specific answers, all of which share to a screen cleanly. It also removes the travel constraint that keeps the Al Furjan in-home pool small. The honest exception is children under eight, who are easier to hold in a room than on a call.

Which boards do UAE candidates sit, and when?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level in a June series and a November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge's February and March series is offered to India only and must not be used to plan a UAE entry. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct zone timetable, warning that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong version. Get the zone timetable from your school.

Does my child still take Arabic alongside IGCSE at a Dubai school?+

Yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, under KHDA requirements. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, and states that combined classes are strictly prohibited. Ask which Arabic entry your child sits, since first language and additional language are separate qualifications, and support works from the school's own prescribed material.

What happens if I decide after the trial that the tutor is not right?+

You say so and nothing is owed. No payment is taken for the trial lesson and there is no obligation afterwards. We will either try one more tutor or tell you honestly that we cannot cover your subject and slot, which happens with the scarcer entries and during study leave. Families in Al Furjan who treat the trial as an interview, with a marked paper and a prepared question, make this decision confidently in one session instead of discovering a mismatch six weeks into a monthly commitment.

Start with the entry list, then test the answers

If you have been searching for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Furjan, the useful first move costs nothing: ask the school's exams officer for your child's entry list, which names the board and syllabus code for every subject. Send us those codes with the earliest time your child is at the desk after the bus. We will name a tutor and the components they have taught, then run a free trial built around a marked paper you provide, so you can put the five verification questions to them yourself. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. If the answers do not convince you, say so and nothing is owed.
