IGCSE Science Tutor in Villanova

An IGCSE science tutor in Villanova can mean six different courses, and the cost depends entirely on which one your child sits and whether you buy support in one discipline or three. This page gives the syllabus codes, the honest hours and the AED figures, and explains why paying for all three sciences evenly is the commonest overspend in this belt.

  • Triple and combined routes priced separately, because they differ
  • Support aimed at the weakest discipline, not spread across three
  • Cambridge and Pearson codes confirmed before any session
  • Free first lesson, no card, with the tutor who would continue

IB & IGCSE in Villanova

Three sciences, one grade, and the wrong thing usually gets bought

Villanova is a townhouse community off Al Qudra Road in the Dubailand belt, and its Year 10 and 11 students are split across at least six IGCSE science routes. Some take three separate sciences. Some take Coordinated Sciences as a double award. Some take a single-award combined course. Some sit Cambridge, some Pearson Edexcel. The phrase 'science tutor' covers all of it and distinguishes none of it.

That matters for money because of one structural fact: in a combined or coordinated course, a single weak discipline drags the whole grade. A student who is strong in biology, adequate in chemistry and lost in physics does not get a mid grade in each. They get one grade, pulled down by physics. The efficient purchase is support in physics. The common purchase is support in all three, which costs three times as much and moves the grade by roughly the same amount.

On separate sciences the arithmetic reverses. Three subjects, three grades, three sets of papers, and a weak discipline damages only its own grade. Here the decision is which of the three matters most for the post-16 plan, and whether the student is better served by securing two grades well than by stretching across three.

Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor run AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Budget online tuition starts at AED 33 to 65, per Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel, per Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. Those are market figures from the parties named, not our price list.

IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses: home visits are a service we offer only in India. Villanova students are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which removes the travel premium that in this belt sits at the top of the AED 50 to 150 per hour range. For the sciences there is one honest limitation, discussed properly below: the laboratory stays at school, and no screen replaces handling apparatus.

Everything that follows is about getting the money in the right place: the route your child is on, the discipline that is actually costing the grade, the paper structures and practical components, the topics that repay tutoring quickly, and the entry and resit costs that arrive after the tutoring budget has gone. Every figure is attributed, so you can check it rather than take it on trust, and where a decision depends on your child's specific entry we say to confirm it with the school's exam office rather than guessing from a page.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of science support depends on the route your child is on more than on anything else. These are the three shapes it takes in Dubai schools.

SEPAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Separate sciences: biology, chemistry, physics

Three subjects, three grades, three sets of papers. Cambridge codes 0610, 0620 and 0625; Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. The heaviest content load in the timetable and the right route for a student heading to A Level or IB sciences. Tutoring here is priced per subject, so the decision is which of the three to support rather than how much.

Dubai schools vary in whether separate sciences are offered to all students or only on recommendation. If your child is on this route and struggling in one discipline, that discipline's own grade is at risk but the other two are not, which makes a single targeted block the obvious purchase rather than a general science arrangement.

COORDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Coordinated Sciences, double award

Cambridge 0654 or Pearson 4SD0, covering all three disciplines and awarding two grades. Content is reduced relative to separate sciences but not simplified, and all three disciplines are examined in the same papers. The structural consequence is that the weakest discipline sets the ceiling, which makes diagnosis the first and most valuable step.

This is the most common route in Dubai British-curriculum schools and the one where the most tutoring money is misallocated. Families typically buy general science support when the marked papers show the loss concentrated in one discipline, usually physics or the chemistry calculations.

SINGLEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined or single-award science

Cambridge 0653 or Pearson 4SC0, one grade covering all three disciplines with the lightest content load. Suits a student whose strengths lie elsewhere and who needs a science qualification rather than a science route. Tutoring is usually about securing a reliable grade through exam technique rather than extending content.

For Ministry of Education British-track equivalency, five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the count. A single-award science contributes one subject to that count rather than two, which is worth knowing when option choices are made in Year 9.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the disciplines and components, with the cost logic attached: which topics repay tutoring quickly and which absorb hours without moving the grade.

Physics: electricity and circuits

All routes

The single most reliable weak point across UAE science cohorts and usually the discipline dragging a coordinated grade. Students learn the rules and cannot reason about what happens elsewhere in the circuit when one component changes. Four to six sessions of question-led work typically fixes it.

Physics: forces, moments and density

All routes

Moments questions and density calculations produce predictable errors around unit conversion and taking moments about the wrong point. Cheap to address, and the questions are structurally similar year to year, which makes practice transfer unusually well.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended and Higher mainly

The calculation block that separates grades at the upper tier. The problem is fluency under time pressure rather than understanding, so timed calculation practice rather than re-explanation is what works. Three to five sessions.

Chemistry: qualitative analysis and tests

All routes

Ion tests, gas tests and observation wording. Highly learnable, directly examined, and frequently left to last-minute memorisation. One or two sessions of strict marking on the expected wording recovers a specific and predictable set of marks.

Chemistry: organic chemistry

All routes

Narrow at IGCSE and rule-governed, which makes it the fastest available gain in the chemistry component for a Year 11. A student who learns the homologous series properly and the handful of reaction types can bank these marks in a fortnight.

Biology: enzymes and transport

All routes

Enzyme graphs and transport in plants produce the widest mark spread in the biology component. Marks go to explanation of mechanism rather than description of the observation, which is a command-term habit rather than a content gap.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

All routes

Punnett squares and ratio reasoning are reliably available marks for a student who practises the layout, and reliably lost by one who improvises it. A low-cost, high-certainty target in the final weeks before a series.

Required practical skills

All routes

Assessed either through a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical written paper depending on board and entry. Method description, variable control, graph plotting and improvement suggestions are all written skills, examined in writing, and almost never practised deliberately.

Graph and data skills

All routes

Plotting accurately, reading a gradient, choosing scales and interpreting an unfamiliar data set. Shared across all three disciplines, which makes it the one topic where paying for cross-discipline work genuinely pays: one session improves marks in three places.

Command terms in science

All routes

State, describe, explain, suggest and compare carry different expectations and different ceilings. Answering 'explain' with description is the most common silent loss in the whole science component, and it is correctable in a single session with a marked paper in front of the student.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy science support, in ascending order of total cost. All are delivered live online with no travel for either side.

Single-discipline targeted block

Four to eight sessions in the one discipline the marked papers identify, usually physics in a coordinated course. At the qualified-tutor band that is roughly AED 600 to 2,400, and in a double-award course it lifts the grade that all three disciplines share. The cheapest effective purchase in science, and the least often chosen.

  • Diagnosis from marked papers, not from the student's impression
  • Defined session count and finish date
  • In coordinated courses it lifts the shared grade
  • Commonest target: circuits, then chemistry calculations

Cross-discipline skills block

Three to five sessions on the skills examined in all three disciplines: graph plotting and interpretation, command terms, the written practical skills, and data handling. The one case where paying for work that is not discipline-specific genuinely pays, because a single session improves answers in three places at once.

  • Graphs, command terms, practical method description, data questions
  • Improves marks across all three disciplines simultaneously
  • Short, cheap and almost never taught deliberately in class
  • Works for both coordinated and separate science routes

Weekly one-to-one in one subject

The expensive option and the right one for a genuine content deficit on a separate-science route: roughly thirty sessions across the year at AED 4,500 to 9,000 in one subject. What makes it worth the money is a termly review against marked papers, and a willingness to stop when the deficit closes rather than at the end of the year.

  • Priced per subject, so three subjects means three arrangements
  • Reviewed each term against marked papers
  • Topic-by-topic past-paper work as topics are taught
  • For content deficits, not for inefficiency

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Villanova

01

Which route your child is on, and what it costs to support

Before any money is spent, establish the route and the board from the school's entry statement. The six combinations in the table below carry different paper structures, different numbers of grades at stake, and therefore different sensible spending levels. Families regularly buy support for the wrong structure, which is invisible for weeks because the content looks similar.

The crucial distinction is how many grades are at risk. On separate sciences a weak physics performance damages the physics grade and nothing else, so the spending decision is about which subject matters for the post-16 plan. On coordinated or single-award routes all three disciplines feed one or two shared grades, so the weakest discipline sets the ceiling and support aimed anywhere else is close to wasted.

That single fact changes the arithmetic dramatically. In a double-award course, four to eight sessions on circuits may lift both grades. The same budget spread evenly across biology, chemistry and physics produces three partial interventions, none of which reaches the discipline that was dragging the result. We have watched families spend AED 6,000 this way and get a smaller movement than AED 1,500 would have delivered if aimed properly.

So the first conversation about cost is really a conversation about structure. Get the entry statement, identify the route, then read the marked papers by discipline. Only then does the number of hours become a sensible question. The whole exercise costs a phone call to the exam office and ten minutes with a marked paper, which is a better return than any hour you will buy afterwards.

02

What the hours cost, case by case

Here are honest session estimates by diagnosis, priced at the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300 an hour that most IGCSE science work sits in. The spread between the cheapest and most expensive case is close to tenfold, which is why an hourly rate on its own tells a parent nothing useful.

Read it alongside the route table. A circuits block in a double-award course is four to eight sessions and lifts two shared grades: that is the best value purchase available in IGCSE science and it costs AED 600 to 2,400. A genuine content deficit across a separate-science subject is twenty to thirty sessions and AED 3,000 to 9,000, and it lifts one grade. Both are legitimate; they are simply not the same decision.

The pattern with delay is worth noting because it differs between categories. Technique and habit problems — command terms, graph skills, practical method wording — stay cheap almost until the exam, so a family short of funds in April should spend them there. Content deficits get steadily more expensive and, in the last term, become damage limitation rather than repair. A DP-bound Year 10 with a content gap should spend now; a Year 11 in March should spend on technique.

Our own first session exists to place a student in one of these rows and say so, including when the honest row is 'four sessions and then stop'. That happens often enough in science that we would rather be known for saying it than for selling a weekly year.

Which of the three sciences to actually pay for

  • Separate the lost marks by discipline before buying anything
  • In Dubai cohorts the concentration is most often physics, then chemistry calculations
  • Blank questions mean content; partially right answers mean technique
  • A typical efficient plan: one discipline block plus a short skills block

This is the question that decides whether a science budget works, and it has a factual answer available from the marked papers rather than an opinion answer available from the student.

Take the most recent marked paper or mock and separate the lost marks by discipline. In a coordinated course the papers mix the three, so this takes ten minutes with a pen. In our experience of Dubai cohorts the loss concentrates in physics more often than in anything else, with the chemistry calculation block second. Biology losses tend to be distributed and command-term driven rather than concentrated, which is why biology is usually the wrong place to spend first even when it feels like the hardest subject to a student facing a lot of content.

Then check one thing before committing: whether the loss is content or technique. A discipline where whole questions are blank is a content problem. A discipline where answers are started, partially right, and marked down is a technique problem — and technique problems are cheaper, faster and available in every discipline at once through the command-term and graph work described above.

The result for most Villanova families on a coordinated route is a specific plan: four to eight sessions on the physics weakness, three on cross-discipline graph and command-term skills, and nothing on the two disciplines that were already functioning. That is roughly AED 1,000 to 3,000 rather than AED 6,000, and it is aimed at the thing that was setting the ceiling.

04

Paper structures and the practical component

Science papers differ by board and route, and the practical element differs most of all. Confirming it matters because the practical component is assessed in writing in most entries, and written practical skills are a distinct thing to prepare for.

Depending on board and school entry, practical skills are assessed either through a practical examination taken under supervision or through an alternative-to-practical written paper on unseen experiments. Either way, the examined skills are largely written: describing a method precisely, identifying and controlling variables, tabulating results, plotting and interpreting graphs, discussing uncertainty and suggesting specific improvements. Those are teachable without apparatus, and they are rarely taught deliberately.

That produces a clear and cheap opportunity. Three to five sessions on the written practical skills addresses a component most students have never practised, and the marks are available whether the entry is a practical examination or an alternative paper. Compare that with the same money spent on a general content sweep across three disciplines and the choice makes itself.

Confirm the structure against the board's current specification for your child's entry year, because paper counts and practical routes are revised between specification versions. Those documents are free on the board's own site, and any tutor worth paying works from them. Nobody should be charging you for them. One practical note for Villanova parents comparing notes: because departments inside a single Dubai school sometimes enter different boards, two children at the same school can be on different practical routes, and the recommendation that suited one will not automatically suit the other.

Topics that repay tutoring in each discipline

  • Physics: circuits, then moments and density unit handling
  • Chemistry: qualitative analysis wording and organic, then moles fluency
  • Biology: genetics layout, then explanation versus description on enzymes and transport
  • All three: graphs and command terms, which pay in three places at once

Once the discipline is chosen, the topic choice inside it decides how fast the money works. These are the targets we would pick first in each science, ordered by marks recovered per session.

In physics: circuits first, every time. It is the largest reliable loss in UAE cohorts and it responds to question-led teaching — what happens to the rest of the circuit when this component changes — rather than to re-reading notes. Then moments and density, where errors cluster around unit conversion and taking moments about the wrong point, both of which are correctable in a session.

In chemistry: qualitative analysis wording and organic chemistry, because both are narrow, rule-governed and directly examined. A student who learns the expected observation wording for the standard ion and gas tests banks a predictable set of marks for an hour or two of work. Moles and stoichiometry come next, treated as a fluency problem with timed practice rather than as a comprehension problem with more explanation.

In biology: genetics and inheritance, where the Punnett square layout is worth practising until it is automatic, and then command-term discipline on enzyme and transport questions, where students describe the observation instead of explaining the mechanism. Biology rewards precision of language more than any other discipline at this level, and precision is cheaper to teach than content. Across all three disciplines, the cheapest work of all is graph and data skills, because the same hour improves answers in biology, chemistry and physics at once and the questions that test it appear on every paper regardless of route.

06

Online or in-home for science, and the laboratory question

  • Apparatus work stays at school, with the school's equipment and supervision
  • Written practical skills are where most practical marks sit, and they are screen-teachable
  • In-home premium over twenty sessions is commonly AED 1,000-3,000
  • No UAE home visits from IB Gram; India-only service

The fair question from any science parent: can this subject be taught properly without apparatus in the room? The honest answer splits the work and is more useful than a reassuring generality.

The apparatus work stays at school. That is where the equipment, the technician and the safety framework are, and it is where your child builds the circuit, times the reaction and records the readings. No online session substitutes for handling equipment, and any tutor who claims otherwise is overselling. For families whose children are entered for a practical examination, the procedural rehearsal happens with the school's teacher and the school's apparatus.

What online teaching covers is the written part of practical assessment, which is where most practical marks actually sit: method description, variable control, tabulation, graph plotting and interpretation, uncertainty and specific improvements. It also covers every other part of the course. On a shared screen, graphs can be plotted live, a data table annotated in a second colour, and the marked work saved so both the tutor and the student keep the record.

The cost difference is real. In-home visits to this belt run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against AED 150 to 300 for the same qualified tutor online, and Villanova sits at the top of the in-home range because the drive out is long. Over a twenty-session block the travel component commonly adds AED 1,000 to 3,000. That premium buys presence, which is the right purchase for a child who genuinely cannot work on a screen. IB Gram does not offer it anywhere in the UAE, because home visits are an India-only service.

07

Where science tutoring money gets wasted in this belt

  • Paying for all three sciences when one discipline set the ceiling
  • Buying content teaching for what was a technique problem
  • Group classes bought to fix an individual diagnosed gap
  • Practising the wrong board's past papers
  • No reserve left for a November resit entry

Five patterns, each common enough in Dubailand enquiries to be worth naming, and each avoidable with one question asked before the first payment.

First and largest: buying support in all three disciplines when the marked papers show the loss concentrated in one. In a coordinated course this triples the cost for roughly the same grade movement, because the ceiling was set by the weak discipline and the other two sessions were spent maintaining things that already worked. Second: buying content teaching when the problem is technique. A student whose answers are started and marked down needs command-term and graph work, not more topics.

Third: buying group science classes to fix an individual gap. A group delivers one pace to everyone, which suits consolidation and cannot reach a specific circuits problem. Monthly packages in this market are advertised from around AED 799 for eight sessions, which looks cheap until the mismatch and the drive from Villanova to Motor City are counted.

Fourth: practising the wrong board's papers because nobody confirmed the codes, which makes every hour less effective without anyone noticing for weeks. Fifth: spending the whole budget before results, leaving nothing for a resit entry in the November series if one subject goes wrong. A realistic plan keeps a reserve, because a second entry fee is a real cost that no tutoring quote includes. The through-line in all five is the same: money committed before the marked paper was read, when the marked paper was free and already in the house.

08

Entries, series and the costs that arrive after the tutoring

Exam administration is the cost that catches families out, and it is driven by the calendar rather than by choice. For a Villanova household, getting the series right is a budget decision as much as an academic one.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate sitting in the UAE, so advice built around a February window belongs to a different country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your school's exam officer which zone applies.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Checkable reference points: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables for later series that may be revised, so work from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

The money consequence: a resit is a second entry fee, quoted by the exam centre rather than by any tutor, plus whatever further hours you decide on. For a science student on a coordinated route the decision is more complicated than for a single subject, because the shared grade means the whole award is re-sat rather than one discipline. Ask the exam office what that involves before results day rather than after it.

Villanova and the communities on the same science timetable

Science routes and board choices differ between schools rather than between neighbourhoods, which is why families in these communities swap recommendations that do not transfer. These are the neighbours Villanova compares with.

Villanova

Amaranta, Casa Dora, La Rosa and Tulipa, off Al Qudra Road. A genuinely mixed board and route picture, so a neighbour's excellent science tutor may be teaching a different specification from your child's. Confirm before taking the recommendation.

Mudon

Adjacent and sharing much of the bus network. Households here often have one child on coordinated sciences and another on separate sciences, which are different purchases with different session counts and different priorities.

Serena

Almost identical school intake. Serena and Villanova students on the same specification and discipline pair well in a shared online slot, which splits the cost without either family travelling.

Town Square

Apartment-dense with a large Year 10 and 11 cohort, so group science classes at nearby centres are a common purchase. They suit consolidation and cannot address a single-discipline gap in a coordinated course.

Arabian Ranches 3

Closer in for visiting tutors, so in-home quotes sit roughly AED 30 to 50 per hour below Villanova's for the same person. Worth knowing before assuming a neighbour negotiated a better deal.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Where the belt's schools and tuition centres are concentrated, with monthly packages advertised in this market from around AED 799 for eight sessions. The realistic comparison for group pricing once the drive is counted.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the route, the codes and a marked paper

The entry statement gives the route and the syllabus codes; the marked paper shows where the loss is. With both, we can tell you which discipline is setting the ceiling and roughly how many sessions it takes. Without them, the first exchanges are spent establishing what your child is actually sitting.

  2. 02

Diagnosis by discipline, then a price

We separate the lost marks by discipline and by cause before quoting, because the honest answer ranges from two sessions to thirty. A rate quoted before anyone has read a paper is a figure set for the seller's convenience rather than an estimate of what the job needs.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

A genuine lesson with the person who would continue, no card required. It tests the diagnosis and the fit together: whether the losses are content or technique, and whether the pair of them work well. If the pace or style does not suit your child, say so and we match again.

  4. 04

A plan in spending order, with a finish date

The plan names the discipline block first, the cross-discipline skills work second, and nothing for the disciplines that were already functioning. Each item carries a session count and an end date set against the school's mocks and the board entry deadline, rather than running on indefinitely.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One discipline, not three

In coordinated and single-award courses the weakest discipline sets the shared grade, so support aimed at it lifts the whole result. Spreading the same budget evenly across three sciences produces three partial interventions and leaves the ceiling where it was.

Technique before content, where the papers say so

Blank questions mean a content gap; partially right answers marked down mean a technique gap. Technique is cheaper, faster and improves all three disciplines at once through command-term and graph work, which almost nobody teaches deliberately.

Codes and route confirmed first

Cambridge 0654 and Pearson 4SD0 are not interchangeable, and neither are the separate-science codes. Practice on the wrong board's papers is wasted money that goes unnoticed for weeks, so the specification is confirmed before the first session rather than after a term.

Honest about the laboratory

Apparatus work stays at school. What online teaching covers is the written practical skills — method, variables, tabulation, graphs, improvements — which is where most practical marks sit and which is almost never practised deliberately.

Figures with their sources

Every AED band here names who published it and is presented as the market rather than our price. We publish no statistic without a source, no promises about final grades, no resold board material, and no self-awarded ratings.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Villanova: your questions answered

Should I pay for all three sciences or just one?+

In a coordinated or single-award course, almost always one — the discipline the marked papers show as the concentration of lost marks, which in Dubai cohorts is most often physics. Because all three feed one or two shared grades, the weakest discipline sets the ceiling and support aimed elsewhere maintains what already worked. Spreading the budget evenly triples the cost for roughly the same movement. On separate sciences the logic differs: each grade stands alone, so choose by which subject matters for the post-16 plan.

What does IGCSE science tutoring cost in the Dubailand belt?+

A qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Budget online tuition starts at AED 33 to 65, per Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel, and Villanova sits at the top of that range because the drive is long. The useful number is the total: a four-session circuits block is AED 600 to 2,400, while a year of weekly sessions in one subject is AED 4,500 to 9,000.

How do I find out which science route and codes my child is on?+

Ask the exam office for the entry statement, which names the board, the syllabus code and the tier for every subject. It takes ten minutes and it settles three things at once: whether the route is separate, coordinated or single award, how many grades are at stake, and which board's past papers are worth the hour. Departments within one Dubai school sometimes differ, so check discipline by discipline rather than assuming the school uses one board throughout.

Which science topic is the best value to tutor first?+

Circuits, in almost every case. Electricity is the largest reliable loss across UAE science cohorts, it responds to question-led teaching rather than re-reading notes, and in a coordinated course it lifts the grade all three disciplines share. Four to eight sessions typically does it. The next best buys are cross-discipline: graph plotting and interpretation, and command-term discipline, both of which improve answers in biology, chemistry and physics simultaneously for a handful of sessions.

Villanova lessons are online - so who supervises the practical work?+

The apparatus work stays at school, where the equipment, the technician and the safety framework are, and where your child builds the circuit and records the readings. Online teaching covers the written practical skills, which is where most practical marks sit: describing a method precisely, identifying and controlling variables, tabulating, plotting and interpreting graphs, discussing uncertainty and suggesting specific improvements. Those are examined in writing whether the entry is a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical paper, and they are rarely practised deliberately.

Is biology, chemistry or physics the hardest for Dubai students?+

Physics produces the largest concentrated losses, chemistry the most calculation-driven ones, and biology the most distributed ones. That is not the same as hardest: biology feels hardest to many students because of the content volume, but its losses tend to be command-term driven — describing an observation where an explanation of mechanism was asked for — which is a language habit rather than a content gap. Physics losses tend to be genuinely conceptual, which is why physics is usually where a limited budget should go first.

Will a science tutor come to our house in Villanova?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video, and home visits are a service we run only in India, so no tutor will arrive at a Dubailand address. Independent in-home science tutors work in this belt at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Villanova at the top of that range. Over twenty sessions the travel element commonly adds AED 1,000 to 3,000, and it buys presence rather than better teaching of circuits or moles calculations.

Are group science classes at a centre worth it?+

For consolidation, yes; for a diagnosed gap, no. A group delivers one pace and one sequence to everyone, which suits a student broadly on track who needs more exposure and practice. It cannot reach an individual circuits problem or a chemistry calculation weakness. Monthly packages in this market are advertised from around AED 799 for eight sessions, which looks inexpensive until you add the drive from Villanova to Motor City — twenty-five to forty minutes each way plus waiting — and the mismatch between the class plan and your child's actual loss.

My child is in Year 11 and the mock was poor across all sciences. What now?+

Separate the lost marks by discipline and by cause before buying anything, which takes ten minutes with the marked paper. A poor result across all three usually turns out to be one content gap plus a technique problem that was costing marks everywhere. In that case the efficient plan is a four to eight session block on the weak discipline and three sessions on command terms and graph skills, which is roughly AED 1,000 to 3,000 rather than the AED 6,000 that three separate arrangements would cost.

Does the science route affect MoE equivalency?+

It affects the subject count. For the British track, Gulf Today reported the Ministry's clarification that five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates are needed at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. A double-award science contributes two subjects to that count while a single award contributes one, which is worth knowing at option time. Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae, and note that no tutoring is required for equivalency.

Can a single tutor handle all three sciences for a Villanova Year 11?+

Someone will offer to, and for a single-award or coordinated course at a mid grade it can work adequately. For a targeted intervention it is usually weaker than a specialist in the one discipline that matters. The compromise most families land on is a specialist for the weak discipline and school support elsewhere, plus a short cross-discipline block on graphs and command terms where a generalist is genuinely fine. Depth beats convenience when a specific grade is at stake.

What does a science resit cost if June goes badly?+

A second entry fee quoted by the exam centre, plus whatever further hours you decide on. For a coordinated or double-award route it is more involved than for a single subject, because the shared grade means the award rather than one discipline is re-sat, so ask the exam office exactly what a resit entails before results day. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates and Pearson runs May/June and November, so there is a route each year. Keeping a reserve in the budget is sensible.

Is the quoted price per hour or per lesson, and does it include materials?+

Ask, and get it in writing before the first paid session, along with the cancellation notice period and whether an hour means sixty minutes. On materials: nobody should be charging you for Cambridge or Pearson specifications, past papers or mark schemes. Those are published free by the boards and should be cited and linked, not resold as a resource pack. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition as a general fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an opinion.

Is a permit needed to tutor science privately in Dubailand?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service. Since the permit is free no tutor should pass on a licensing cost, and because no fine schedule is published, treat any penalty figure quoted at you as unverified.

Find the discipline, then spend the money

The most useful ten minutes a Villanova family can spend on IGCSE science costs nothing: get the entry statement so you know the route and the codes, then go through the last marked paper separating lost marks by discipline and by cause. That turns a vague three-subject worry into one targeted block and one short skills block, which is usually a quarter of the spend. Send us both documents and you will get an honest session count and a rate quoted after the free trial lesson. Teaching is live, one-to-one and online; the laboratory stays at school.
