IGCSE Home Tutor in Villanova

Most parents hunting for an IGCSE home tutor in Villanova are really asking one question: is there anybody near us who knows this syllabus properly? The honest answer is that proximity to Villanova has nothing to do with it. What matters is whether the tutor can name your child's board and syllabus code. IB Gram matches by exactly that, and teaches one-to-one live online across Dubai.

  • Matched on your child's board and syllabus code, not on postcode
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are taught as different courses
  • Free trial lesson with the tutor who would actually teach
  • Past papers and mark schemes cited from the board, never reproduced

IB & IGCSE in Villanova

Nobody near you needs to know your syllabus — your tutor does

Villanova is a townhouse and villa community off Al Qudra Road in the Dubailand belt, and its children attend schools scattered from The Sustainable City to Al Barsha. Those schools do not all teach the same IGCSE. Some run Cambridge, some run Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, a few run both across different departments, and a handful add Oxford AQA for one or two subjects. A tutor who lives four streets away and 'does IGCSE' may never have taught your child's specification.

This is the gap that makes the local search frustrating. Parents type 'IGCSE home tutor in Villanova' expecting a geography problem and discover a specification problem. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 cover similar content but assess it differently: 0580 is tiered into Core and Extended with two written papers, while 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher and has its own paper structure and formula provision. Teaching one as if it were the other costs marks in exactly the places that are hard to diagnose afterwards.

So the useful filter is not distance. It is whether a tutor can tell you, without looking it up, which papers your child sits, what the tier ceiling is, and where that specification hides its marks. That filter does not care where the tutor sleeps, which is why IB Gram matches on board and tier and teaches the lesson live online, one-to-one. No tutor travels to a Villanova address — home visits are a service we run only in India — and the lesson reaches your child's desk instead.

Being clear about that upfront saves everyone a week. Independent in-home tutors do work in Dubailand and some are excellent; market rates for home visits run roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. If a person in the room is what your child needs, that is the market to approach. If what you need is a Chemistry 0620 specialist who has marked a hundred Paper 4s, geography is the wrong way to find one.

What follows is the information you would need to run that check yourself: how to find your child's board, the syllabus codes worth asking about, what the Dubai market charges from the cheap end upwards, who is legally permitted to tutor here, what the Ministry of Education actually requires for equivalency, and how the June and November series work for a UAE candidate. Sources are named throughout so you can verify rather than trust.

One framing point before the detail. Dubai has 227 private schools teaching 17 different curricula to 387,441 students, with the UK curriculum accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, according to figures published by Dubai Media Office for 2024-25. That is a large and genuinely varied market, and it is why two Villanova neighbours can both say their child does IGCSE and mean materially different courses. The variation is the reason the specification question matters more here than it would in a single-board national system.

At a glance

  • Schools near Villanova use Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, and occasionally Oxford AQA
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are tiered and papered differently — the teaching differs too
  • UAE Cambridge candidates sit June and November; the February/March series is India-only
  • Ask a prospective tutor for the syllabus code before you ask anything else
  • IB Gram teaches live online one-to-one; UAE home visits are not a service we offer
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE tutor for a Villanova family is usually being asked to fix one of three situations: a Year 9 arriving at the specification cold, a Year 10 drifting, or a Year 11 who has run out of runway. They are different jobs.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Pre-IGCSE and Year 9 foundations

Most schools start the two-year IGCSE course in Year 10, which makes Year 9 the cheapest year to fix anything. Algebraic fluency, scientific notation, and writing a paragraph that answers the question asked are the three things that decide IGCSE grades two years later. Work here is unglamorous and highly leveraged: a student fluent in rearranging equations finds Physics 0625 straightforward and one who is not never will.

In Dubai, Year 9 is also when option choices are made, and the school's advice is necessarily general. For a Villanova family the specific question is whether to take triple or combined science and whether Additional Maths is realistic, because those choices constrain A Level and Diploma routes later. Those decisions are also where the MoE equivalency subject count starts to matter.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

IGCSE Year 10

The year content is delivered and the year parents notice drift. A Year 10 student can hold a B-grade appearance while accumulating gaps in topics that are only examined in Paper 4. Useful tutoring here works through past-paper questions by topic as the topic is taught, rather than saving all papers for Year 11, which is how students arrive at revision with no idea which questions they cannot do.

Dubai schools vary widely in how early they enter students for exams; some sit a subject in the June series at the end of Year 10. If your child's school does this, the Year 10 timetable is already an exam timetable and tuition should be planned against the entry deadline rather than the end of the year. Confirm with the school in writing which series each subject is entered for.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

IGCSE Year 11 and the exam run

The year of mocks, entries and the real series. Sessions here are almost entirely past-paper based: timed questions, mark-scheme discipline, and the specific habits that convert knowledge into marks — showing method, using the formula sheet, reading the command word. Content teaching still happens, but only on diagnosed gaps rather than as a sweep from chapter one.

A Villanova Year 11 sitting the June series has a hard stop that cannot move, and a November resit route that most families do not know exists. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November; Cambridge runs June and November. Knowing the resit route exists changes how a January mock result is handled, because it converts a disaster into a decision.

POST16Ages 16+ · Years 12-13

After IGCSE: A Level or IB Diploma

The decision made in Year 11 and felt for two years. IGCSE grades set entry requirements for both routes, and the step up is steeper than the grade suggests: IGCSE rewards coverage, while both A Level and the IB Diploma reward sustained argument and independent work. Bridging support over the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 is consistently better value than remediation in the first term.

Several schools near Villanova offer the IB Diploma and several offer A Levels, which means the choice is often also a change of school and commute. For MoE equivalency on the British track, one A Level at grade E or two AS Levels at E sit alongside the five-IGCSE requirement, so the post-16 route and the equivalency file are linked. Verify current requirements with the Ministry.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Dubailand families ask about most, with the syllabus code and the specific place marks go missing. Codes are the ones to quote when you contact any tutor.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Tiering decides the grade ceiling, so confirming the tier is the first question. Extended and Higher students lose most marks in algebraic fractions, transformations of functions and probability tree reasoning — not in topics they have never met. Method marks lost to unshown working are the cheapest marks to recover.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended; single tier

Electricity is the reliable weak point in UAE cohorts, followed by moments and density calculations. The practical paper or alternative-to-practical component rewards students who have handled apparatus and can describe a method in the passive. Unit errors and significant-figure sloppiness account for a surprising share of lost marks.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended; single tier

Moles calculations and the qualitative analysis tests are the two blocks that separate grades. Students typically understand bonding and fail at stoichiometry under time pressure. Organic chemistry at IGCSE is narrow and highly learnable, so it is usually the fastest available grade gain for a Year 11.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended; single tier

Content-heavy and command-term sensitive. The commonest failure is answering 'explain' questions with description. Transport in plants, enzymes and the nervous system produce the widest mark spread. Diagram labelling and data interpretation from an unfamiliar graph are both coachable in a handful of sessions.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Double and single award

The route most Dubai students take if they are not doing triple science. Content is reduced but not simplified, and the papers still examine all three disciplines, which means a weak discipline drags the whole grade. Tutoring is most efficient when it targets the single weakest discipline rather than all three evenly.

English Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990)

First Language

Directed writing and the composition task carry the grade, and both are structure problems rather than vocabulary problems. Reading questions reward precise lifting and explanation of effect; most lost marks come from students writing about what a passage says instead of how it works.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different course from First Language and frequently confused with it by parents. Listening and speaking components exist and are examined, which changes how a session is spent. Accuracy in tense and article use is where the measurable gains sit for students who speak fluent conversational English.

Economics and Business Studies

IGCSE

Diagram-led in Economics and case-led in Business. Students lose marks by defining terms correctly and then failing to apply them to the stimulus. Six- and eight-mark evaluation questions have a recognisable structure that can be taught in two or three sessions and is rarely taught in class.

Computer Science (0478 / 4CP0)

IGCSE

Pseudocode and the theory paper, not programming fluency. Students who write confident Python still lose marks writing board-standard pseudocode and tracing algorithms by hand. Binary, hexadecimal and data-representation questions are formulaic and worth securing early.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language

KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Although these sit outside the MoE equivalency count of five, they are real timetabled work and frequently the subject nobody is supporting.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every IGCSE need in this community. All are delivered live online, one-to-one or in a small pair, with no tutor travelling to a UAE address.

Weekly one-to-one on one specification

A fixed weekly slot with a tutor who works from your child's syllabus code. This is the default for a Year 10 drifting in one subject, and the reason it is one subject is diagnostic clarity: if two subjects start at once and the grade moves, you cannot tell which intervention did it. Sessions run 60 minutes for most Year 9 and 10 students and 90 for exam-year work.

  • Tutor confirmed against the board and tier before lesson one
  • Same tutor weekly, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Topic-by-topic past-paper work rather than a chapter sweep
  • Notes after each session naming what was covered and set

Mock-to-series intensive

A dated block aimed at the gap between a January mock and the June series. Typically six to twelve sessions driven entirely by the mock script: every question lost, categorised as knowledge, method or reading, then addressed in that order. This is the format that moves grades fastest because it works from evidence rather than from a parent's impression.

  • Starts from the marked mock paper, not a syllabus checklist
  • Timed paper practice every second session
  • Clear stop date at the entry or exam deadline
  • Also used for the November resit route after a June result

Sibling pairs on the same specification

Two students in the same year, same board and same tier taught together. Common in Mudon and Serena households and between neighbours in Villanova. It lowers cost per student and works well for content and exam technique. It does not work where the two students are on different boards, which is more common in this belt than families expect.

  • Both students must share board, tier and roughly the same starting point
  • Two to four students maximum so everyone still answers questions
  • One slot to schedule instead of two
  • Not suitable where boards or tiers differ

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Villanova

01

The question behind 'IGCSE home tutor in Villanova'

  • Ask any tutor: which board, which code, how many papers, which tier
  • A tutor who asks for the textbook rather than the code is a generalist
  • Convenience is solved by removing travel, not by reducing distance
  • Home visits are an India-only service; UAE teaching is live online

Decoded, the search means: find me somebody competent, close enough to be convenient, who genuinely knows what my child is sitting. Two of those three are achievable and one is a red herring. Competence and specification knowledge are the whole of it; closeness only ever bought convenience, and online delivery buys more convenience than closeness ever did.

Here is the test worth applying to any tutor, local or not. Ask which board your child's school uses. Ask what the syllabus code is. Ask how many written papers that subject has and whether it is tiered. A tutor who knows the specification answers in one breath. A tutor who has only ever taught 'IGCSE maths' will ask you to send the textbook, which tells you what you need to know. Most families have never asked those three questions, and most tutors are never asked them.

IB Gram's answer to the convenience half is to remove the journey entirely. Teaching is live, one-to-one and online, reaching a desk in Villanova at a time chosen around your child's school day. Nobody drives to Al Qudra Road, in Villanova or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service and we say so before anything is booked. What that trade buys is the specialist half: a tutor selected because they teach your specification, not because they live in Dubailand.

The remainder of this page is the information required to run the specification check for yourself, including the codes, the paper structures and the series that apply to a UAE candidate. If you read nothing else, read the board table below and then go and confirm it against your child's entry letter.

02

Find out which board your child's school actually uses

This is the single most useful ten minutes a parent can spend. The school's entry letter or exam-office statement names the board and the syllabus code for every subject, and it occasionally contradicts what a parent has assumed for two years. Departments within one Dubai school do sometimes differ: Cambridge sciences with Pearson maths is a common combination, and it changes which past papers are worth touching.

The practical differences are not cosmetic. Tiering, paper count, formula provision and the treatment of practical work all vary between boards for the same subject name. A student revising Cambridge 0580 Extended papers for a Pearson 4MA1 Higher entry is practising the right content in the wrong format, which shows up as a timing problem in the exam and gets misdiagnosed as weak knowledge.

The table below sets out the comparison for the subjects Villanova families ask about most. Treat it as the shape of the difference rather than a substitute for the board's own specification document, which is free, authoritative and the thing any serious tutor works from. We link those documents rather than reproducing them, because reproducing board material is a copyright matter.

There is a second reason to get the entry statement early rather than in Year 11. Tier decisions and subject entries are made against deadlines that sit months before the exam window, and a family that does not know what its child is entered for cannot sensibly question a tier choice. Parents who read the statement in Year 9 or Year 10 are in a position to ask whether Extended is realistic; parents who read it in the spring of Year 11 are reading a decision that has already been made on their behalf and paid for.

Why 'knows IGCSE' is not a qualification

  • 'IGCSE' names a family of specifications, not a single course
  • Ask what appears only on the Extended or Higher paper — a specialist will know
  • Mark-scheme strictness on units, state symbols and command terms costs silent grades
  • We match on specification first and tell you honestly when a slot does not exist

The phrase appears in almost every tutoring advert in Dubai and carries almost no information. IGCSE is a family of several hundred specifications across at least three boards. Knowing IGCSE in the abstract is like knowing 'law'. What a parent needs is somebody who knows the specification their child is entered for, at the tier they are entered at, and who has worked through enough of that board's past papers to recognise its habits.

Specification knowledge shows up in small, checkable ways. A tutor who knows Cambridge 0625 can tell you which topics appear only on the Extended paper. A tutor who knows Pearson 4CH1 can tell you how its practical questions are framed. A tutor who knows 0500 can tell you how the directed-writing task is marked against purpose and audience. None of these are obscure; all of them are invisible to someone teaching from a general textbook.

There is a second, quieter layer: knowing where the board's own marking is strict. Significant figures in Physics, state symbols in Chemistry equations, the difference between 'describe' and 'explain' in Biology. These rules cost grades silently because the student's answer looks right to a parent and to the student. A tutor who marks to the mark scheme rather than to the correct answer catches them in week two.

This is why we match on specification before availability. If the right specialist is not free in your preferred window, we say so and offer what exists. Filling a 0620 slot with a general science tutor would solve the scheduling problem and leave the actual problem untouched, which is a worse outcome than waiting a fortnight.

04

The codes and papers worth knowing before you book

Quote a syllabus code in your first message to any tutor and the conversation changes. It tells a competent tutor exactly what to prepare and tells an incompetent one that they are out of their depth. It also protects you from the commonest waste in this market: paying for sessions that work through the wrong board's past papers.

The table below lists the structures most relevant to Villanova families. Paper counts and components change between specification versions, so treat these as the current shape and confirm against the board's own page for your child's entry year. Both Cambridge and Pearson publish their specifications and provisional timetables publicly, and those documents are the ones to work from.

One practical note on practicals, since it is the question we get most from parents whose children study any science online. Science practical skills at IGCSE are assessed either through a practical examination or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on board and school entry. Online tuition can teach the written assessment of practical skills thoroughly — method description, variable control, graph plotting, uncertainty — but it cannot replace handling apparatus, and the hands-on work happens at school. Any tutor claiming otherwise is overselling.

A last word on past papers, since it is the first thing most families reach for. Past papers are only useful when they match the specification and the tier, and when the work is marked against the board's mark scheme rather than against the answer. A student who does ten papers unmarked has practised being wrong ten times. Two papers marked strictly, with every lost mark categorised and the categories addressed in order, moves a grade further than ten papers ticked at speed.

What IGCSE tuition costs in the Dubailand belt, cheapest first

Begin at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families start and where most of the disappointment lives. Online tutoring from university students and budget platforms is advertised in Dubai from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour — Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. At that price you are buying homework supervision and content recap. For a Year 8 who will not sit down, that may be exactly right and excellent value.

One step up, a qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150. This is the band where specification knowledge starts to be realistic, and it is where most exam-year IGCSE tuition sensibly sits. Above it, IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more — TutorChase at AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 table at AED 200 to 450+ — and premium named tutors at AED 500 to 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

In-home visits sit across the middle and upper bands at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, per Bestimate's AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Every figure here was published by the party named; none is IB Gram's price, which is quoted per student after the free trial.

Where the money is actually wasted in this belt: paying a specialist rate for homework supervision, paying the in-home premium for a child who works fine on a screen, and buying a year of weekly sessions when a six-session block off the back of a mock paper would have done it.

A tutor at the door, or the specialist on the screen

  • In-home premium in Dubailand sits at the top of the AED 50-150 per hour spread
  • In-home search selects by travel radius; online search selects by specification
  • A clashed online session usually moves; a missed home visit is a charged journey
  • In-home is the right call for a child who cannot work on a screen — not as a default

For a Villanova family the comparison is lopsided in a way it would not be in, say, Jumeirah. The community sits far enough out that a tutor's round trip is forty to sixty minutes each way for most of Dubai's tutoring workforce. That cost appears in two places: in the rate, where the in-home premium runs AED 50 to 150 an hour above the online equivalent, and in the slot, because a tutor who has to drive can only offer you the time that fits their route.

The deeper cost is selection. Searching in-home filters candidates by willingness to drive to Al Qudra Road, then asks you to pick the best of whoever remains. For a mainstream need that pool probably contains somebody good. For Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry at Higher tier with a January mock to recover from, it may contain nobody who has taught that specification, and the family ends up paying a premium rate for a generalist.

Online removes the travel from both sides and lets the filter be specification and tier. It also makes rescheduling survivable: a clashed online session can usually move inside the same week, while a missed home visit is a wasted journey and is normally charged. Across a two-year IGCSE course with mock weeks, travel and illness, that is several hours of teaching kept rather than lost.

Being fair to the alternative: a student who needs an adult physically present to stay on task, or who has a specific need that makes screen work genuinely harder, may do better in the room. That is a legitimate reason to use the in-home market, and a family in that position should look there. It is not a reason for everyone else to pay the premium by default.

07

The five-subject rule: MoE equivalency for IGCSE students

  • Five IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 (British track)
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five that count
  • Plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E
  • Verify current requirements on moe.gov.ae — we publish no unsourced figure

If a UAE university is a possibility, the Ministry of Education equivalency requirements decide which IGCSE subjects matter. Gulf Today reported the Ministry's clarification for the British track: students must pass 'five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3', and must also submit proof of 'one accredited subject at the Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E' or 'two accredited subjects at the Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade'.

The clause families miss is the exclusion: Arabic and Islamic education 'are not included among the five required subjects'. That has a real consequence in Dubai, where both are mandatory school subjects under KHDA requirements. A student with seven IGCSEs, two of which are Arabic and Islamic Education, has five that count — exactly at the line, with no margin for a failed subject. Knowing that in Year 9 changes option choices; discovering it in Year 12 does not.

It is also worth knowing that one competitor ranking for these searches publishes a six-subject requirement. Five is the number in the sourced clarification. For the American track, the same clarification sets mathematics at a minimum SAT Maths score of 450 and English proficiency at IELTS academic 5, TOEFL iBT 61, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section.

Two honest caveats. Equivalency is a Ministry process; IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee it, and no tutoring is required for it. And requirements change, so confirm current rules on moe.gov.ae or with your emirate's attestation authority before making a decision that depends on them.

08

Entries, series and results for a UAE IGCSE candidate

The calendar point that matters most is also the one most generic articles get wrong for this country. Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a candidate sitting in the UAE. If an article or a tutor mentions a February or March exam window for your Dubai-based child, they are reading Indian material.

Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, and its exams officers' guide states that 'it is essential that you use the correct version of the timetable for your zone', adding that Cambridge 'cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam' where the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exam officer which zone the centre sits in before you print or diarise anything.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. Checkable past dates: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables for future series which can be revised, so always open the live official timetable rather than relying on a restated date.

Working backwards from any series, the order that matters is: the school's internal coursework and mock deadlines first, then the board entry deadline, then the exam window. The first is the earliest and the one a family can actually miss. The November series also functions as the resit route after a June result, which is why a bad January mock is a decision point rather than a catastrophe.

Villanova and the communities that share its school intake

The Dubailand belt sends children to a wide spread of schools, which means neighbouring communities often share a board mix rather than a catchment. These are the ones whose families ask the same questions.

Villanova

Clusters including Amaranta, Casa Dora, La Rosa and Tulipa, off Al Qudra Road. A young demographic, so Year 7 to Year 11 demand dominates. Board mix is genuinely split here, which is why the first question in any enquiry is which specification the school teaches.

Mudon

Adjacent and sharing much of the same bus network. Households here frequently run two boards at once — one child on Cambridge, one on Pearson — because siblings attend different schools. That makes a single generalist tutor a poor fit for a two-child arrangement.

Serena

Similar stock and almost identical school intake to Villanova, close enough that neighbour recommendations move between the two. Serena families report the same split between the near Dubailand schools and the longer Al Barsha run.

Town Square

Apartment-heavy, with a strong Year 10 and Year 11 population and high demand for maths and the sciences. Finding a quiet room for a video lesson is a genuine constraint here, and it is worth solving before booking a weekly slot.

Arabian Ranches 3

Short commute to the Ranches schools, heavier primary weighting, and a growing cohort now reaching Year 9. Option-choice questions arrive from this community earlier in the year than from the rest of the belt.

Motor City and Sports City

The nearest established school cluster, and the source of most of the belt's afternoon congestion between 15:00 and 16:00. Families here can start sessions earlier than Villanova, which is worth knowing if you are comparing notes with a friend.

Remraam

At the far edge of the belt for most routes. Later realistic start times, so evening slots after 19:00 are normal rather than exceptional, and the subject mix skews towards exam-year maths and science.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Villanova

Dubailand, Motor City and Arabian Ranches

The nearest cluster and a mixed-board one. Before booking any tutor, confirm in writing with the school which board and tier each subject is entered for — departments within one school sometimes differ, and the entry letter is the document that settles it.

  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • South View School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Fairgreen International School

Al Barsha, Jumeirah Park and Jumeirah South

A longer afternoon run from Villanova and home to several large British-curriculum schools running IGCSE at 16. Return journeys of 35 to 50 minutes are routine, which pushes exam-year sessions into the evening for students travelling here.

  • Dubai British School, Jumeirah Park
  • Safa Community School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School, Dubai
  • GEMS World Academy, Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject, the code and the year group

The most useful first message names the subject, the syllabus code if you have it, the tier, and your child's year group and school. With that we can say honestly whether the specification is covered and in which slots. Without the code, the first two exchanges are spent establishing what your child is actually sitting.

  2. 02

We match the specification, then the slot

The tutor is selected because they teach that board and tier, not because a slot happened to be open. If nobody suitable is free when you want, you are told that rather than offered a near-enough substitute. Niche combinations and exam-year windows are where availability is tightest, so ask early.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, taught by the matched tutor

The first session is a genuine lesson with the person who would continue, not an introductory call. No card is required. The purpose is diagnosis against the specification: what your child can do, which paper the marks are leaking from, and whether the two of them work well together. Wrong fit means we match again.

  4. 04

A plan driven by mock scripts and school dates

After the trial you receive a short plan ordered by evidence: the questions lost in the most recent mock or assessment, categorised and sequenced, set against the school's own deadlines and the board entry date. If there is no mock yet, the first two sessions generate the evidence instead of assuming it.

  5. 05

Notes weekly, review when results arrive

Every session produces notes naming what was taught and what was set. When a report, mock or result lands, the plan is revised rather than continued out of inertia. When the subject stops needing weekly support we will tell you so, because a slot running on habit is a cost to you and no credit to us.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the code, not the postcode

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are taught as different courses because they are assessed differently. Matching online rather than by travel radius means the selection can be made on specification and tier, which is the variable that actually moves grades in an exam-year subject.

Marked to the mark scheme

Work is marked the way the board marks it — units, significant figures, state symbols, command terms — rather than ticked for being broadly correct. That is where silent grades hide, and it is the fastest diagnosable gain available to most Year 10 and Year 11 students.

Board material cited, never copied

We reference and link official specifications, timetables and past-paper sources rather than reproducing or supplying them. Board documents are free and authoritative; redistributing them is a copyright matter, and any service handing you a bundle of mark schemes is cutting a corner you should notice.

Rates shown with their source

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the competitor or rate table that published it, with the band stated as the market rather than as our price. We publish no statistic without a source, no self-awarded rating, and no exam date we cannot point at an official page for.

Honest about coverage and about delivery

There is no IB Gram office or centre in the UAE, we claim no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or MoE approval, and no named school is a client or partner. Teaching is live, one-to-one and online across the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. You test all of it in a free trial first.

A stop date, not a subscription

Most IGCSE problems are finite: a tier decision, a topic block, a mock recovery. We would rather run six sessions that close a gap and end than a standing weekly slot that nobody reviews. The plan names its own finish line, and we revisit it when results arrive.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Villanova: your questions answered

How do I find out which IGCSE board my child's Villanova school uses?+

Ask the exam office for the entry statement, which names the board and syllabus code for every subject your child is entered for. That document settles it; a parent's assumption often does not. Departments inside one Dubai school sometimes use different boards — Cambridge sciences alongside Pearson maths is a common mix — so check subject by subject rather than school-wide. Once you have the codes, quote them to any tutor you contact. It takes ten minutes and it eliminates the single most expensive mistake in this market, which is paying for sessions that work through the wrong board's past papers.

Is there an IGCSE tutor actually living near Villanova who knows my child's syllabus?+

Possibly, but it is the wrong question to optimise for. IGCSE covers several hundred specifications across at least three boards, and the chance that the person nearest you teaches your child's exact specification and tier is largely luck. IB Gram selects on board and tier and teaches live online, which makes the question irrelevant — no one drives to Villanova, so no one is excluded by the drive. If a tutor in the room is genuinely what your child needs, the independent in-home market in Dubailand exists and charges roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel.

What does an IGCSE tutor cost per hour in Dubai, from the cheap end up?+

Budget online tuition is advertised from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya publishing from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65; at that level you are buying supervision rather than diagnosis. A qualified subject tutor online runs roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. IGCSE and A Level specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more, and in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 including travel. Those are published market figures, not IB Gram's prices, which are quoted after the free trial.

Do Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE teach the same thing?+

Similar content, different assessment, and the difference matters for tuition. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended with its own paper structure; Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher with different papers and different formula provision. Sciences differ in how practical skills are assessed and in question style. English differs in task types. Past papers from the two boards are therefore not interchangeable, and a student practising the wrong board's papers often develops a timing problem that gets misread as weak knowledge. Confirm the board, then revise within it.

When do IGCSE exams happen for a student sitting in Dubai?+

Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates. The February/March series is offered to India only, so any article quoting a February or March window is not describing your child's exams. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. For reference, the November 2026 Pearson final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached students on 20 August 2026. Because provisional timetables can be revised, open the board's live official timetable rather than relying on any restated date, including ours.

How are IGCSE science practicals handled if lessons are online?+

The hands-on work stays at school, where the apparatus is. What online tuition can teach thoroughly is the assessed written element of practical skills: describing a method precisely, identifying variables, tabulating results, plotting and interpreting graphs, discussing uncertainty and suggesting improvements. Depending on board and school entry, that is examined either through a practical examination or through an alternative-to-practical paper, and for many students it is where practical marks are actually lost. A tutor who claims online lessons can replace laboratory handling is overselling; one who drills the written assessment is doing the useful part.

My child's mock came back badly in January — is it too late before the June series?+

No, and a marked mock script is the most useful document you can hand a tutor. The efficient approach is to categorise every lost mark as knowledge, method or reading, then address them in that order, because reading and method errors are faster to fix than content gaps and usually account for more marks than parents expect. Six to twelve focused sessions driven by the script typically does more than a year of general weekly tuition. If the gap turns out to be too wide for the June series, the November series is a genuine resit route.

Should my child take Core or Extended, Foundation or Higher?+

Tier sets the grade ceiling, so this is a consequential decision and the school's advice should carry most of the weight — they hold the assessment record. The question a tutor can help with is whether the current performance is a tier problem or a preparation problem. A student losing marks on method and reading rather than on content is usually in the right tier and the wrong habits. Decide early, because entry deadlines sit months before the exam window and a late tier change is an administrative problem on top of an academic one.

How many subjects should we get IGCSE tutoring in at once?+

One, in most cases, and for a diagnostic reason as much as a financial one. If two subjects start simultaneously and grades move, you cannot tell which intervention worked or whether the student simply settled. Starting with the weakest subject, or the one with the nearest deadline, gives you a clean read within a month. Exam-year students sometimes carry two, but rarely more than two well. Where a household has several children, separate slots for separate specifications beat one tutor covering everything adequately.

Can one tutor cover maths and all three sciences for a Villanova Year 11?+

Someone will offer to, and it is usually a poor trade in an exam year. Maths and Physics overlap enough that a strong tutor in both is realistic and useful. Chemistry and Biology are different disciplines with different mark-scheme conventions, and depth beats convenience when a target grade is at stake. The practical compromise most families land on is one specialist in the weakest subject and school support elsewhere, rather than four subjects covered thinly by one person across a single weekly hour.

Are the tutors teaching Villanova students legally permitted to tutor in the UAE?+

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and applications go through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published — so treat any specific amount quoted at you as unverified.

Can a tutor help with IGCSE coursework or a school project?+

A tutor can teach the skills the task requires, explain what the assessment criteria ask for, and give feedback on work your child has written. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it, supply the data, edit it to a finished state, or hand over another student's work as a model. Those cross into passing off someone else's work as the student's own, which is misconduct and risks the entry rather than just the grade. Ask any prospective tutor this question directly; a vague answer is itself the answer you needed.

Does my child still have to study Arabic and Islamic Education on an IGCSE timetable in Dubai?+

In a Dubai private school, yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and separate classes organised for Arabs and non-Arabs, since combined classes are prohibited. Schools must also ensure that teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate KHDA approval. Note that for Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five subjects that count — which is worth knowing before option choices are finalised.

What happens if the first Villanova tutor turns out not to suit my child?+

Say so and we match again. That is the entire purpose of making the first lesson a free trial with the tutor who would continue rather than a call with a coordinator: you are testing teaching, not sales. Mismatches are usually about pace or communication style rather than competence, and they are obvious inside one session to everyone involved, including the tutor. What we will not do is keep a weekly slot running because it was booked. If a specification cannot be covered well, we would rather tell you to look elsewhere.

Get the code, then get the tutor

Before you contact anyone about an IGCSE home tutor in Villanova, ask your child's school for the entry statement and write down the board, the syllabus code and the tier for the subject that is going wrong. Send those three things and you will get a straight answer about whether we cover that specification and in which slots — or a straight answer that we do not. The first lesson is free and is taught by the tutor who would continue, so you are judging teaching rather than a pitch. All lessons are live, one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time; no one drives to Dubailand.
