IB Tutor near me in Villanova

When you search for an IB tutor near me in Villanova, Google answers with whoever has a map pin and an address, which is not the same as whoever can teach Higher Level Chemistry. This page works out what proximity is actually worth in minutes for a Dubailand household, and what it costs you in choice of tutor. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Villanova

What 'near me' buys a Villanova family, measured in minutes

A 'near me' search is a request for convenience, and convenience is measurable. For a household in Villanova — the townhouse clusters off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand — the question is how many minutes proximity actually saves on an ordinary weekday afternoon, and what you give up to get them. Both halves of that calculation can be put in numbers, which is what this page does.

Start with the obvious part. If a tutor travels to you, you save no minutes at all; the tutor spends them. What you save is your own driving, which matters if the alternative is a tuition centre in Motor City or Sports City. A round trip to Motor City between 16:00 and 17:00 is twenty-five to forty minutes each way from most of Villanova, plus parking and waiting. For two children on different days that is several hours of a parent's week.

An online session saves the same driving and adds something a nearby option cannot: the tutor pool stops being local. This is where 'near me' quietly costs you. Dubai's strongest Higher Level subject teachers are distributed across the emirate and beyond, and they are not evenly spread around Dubailand. Filter by proximity and you are selecting from whoever happens to be close, then hoping the Chemistry HL specialist is among them.

IB Gram does not operate a centre near Villanova, has no UAE office, and does not send tutors to UAE addresses — home visits are a service we offer only in India. The teaching is live, one-to-one and online, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around your child's actual arrival home. Saying that plainly in the first hundred words is deliberate: a family who specifically wants a venue or a visitor should know immediately and go elsewhere.

For everyone else, the rest of this page covers what the minutes are worth, what the three locally available provider models actually offer, what the Dubai market charges and what the travel premium buys, how KHDA's inspection bands should be read when you look at your child's school report, and which regulator governs what across the emirates. Each figure carries its source.

One note on the IB specifically: Dubai's IB cohort is a minority of the private-school population — International Baccalaureate accounts for 7 per cent of students against 37 per cent on UK curricula, per Dubai Media Office figures for 2024-25. That minority status is exactly why subject-level IB expertise is thinly spread geographically, and why 'near me' is a weaker filter for an IB family than for a British-curriculum one. A British-curriculum parent in Dubailand has dozens of plausible local options for IGCSE maths. An IB parent looking for Chemistry at Higher Level, with an Internal Assessment due in a month, may find that the nearest genuinely qualified teacher is twenty-five kilometres away and fully booked on the two afternoons that would have worked.

At a glance

  • A nearby option saves your driving; an online one saves it too and widens the tutor pool
  • IB students are 7% of Dubai private enrolment (Dubai Media Office, 2024-25) — specialists are thinly spread
  • No IB Gram centre, office or home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

A 'near me' search usually comes from a parent at one of three decision points: a primary child drifting, a MYP student whose criteria marks have dropped, or a Diploma student in trouble in one subject. Each needs a different kind of help.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS2 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

No external examinations, so the measure of progress is capability rather than a score. The work that pays off later is number fluency without a calculator, reading stamina and the ability to write three connected sentences about a reason. Sessions are short — 40 to 45 minutes is the practical ceiling for a primary child after a bus journey — and work best with a parent nearby but not narrating.

In Dubai the primary years are when Arabic becomes a real timetabled subject under KHDA requirements rather than an enrichment activity, with separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Villanova families moving from a country where Arabic was optional are often surprised by how much weekly instructional time it carries, which is why Arabic support is usually a separate stream rather than an add-on.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked 0-8, and a descriptor-based system that rewards reading the task sheet. A student whose MYP marks have slipped is usually slipping on one criterion — planning an investigation, or communicating reasoning — rather than across a subject. The diagnostic question is always which criterion, and it is answerable from the last two pieces of marked work.

MYP provision around Dubailand is thinner than Diploma or British-curriculum provision, so MYP families in this belt often travel further to school than their neighbours do. That lengthens the afternoon and compresses the evening, which is the practical reason an online slot is easier to sustain for an MYP student here than a venue-based one.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS, out of 45. Internal Assessments carry 20 to 25 per cent of most subject grades. The Diploma punishes poor sequencing more than weak ability: students who plan backwards from their school's coursework deadlines usually finish calmly, and students who do not spend DP2 recovering.

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no IB exam or results dates here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and an unverified date on a page a parent plans around is worse than no date. Get the window and the internal upload deadlines from your child's IB coordinator, and note that the school's own deadlines land weeks before the IB's.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

DP courses combined with a career-related study and a reflective project, assessed partly on written reflection against descriptors most students are never shown. It suits a student who wants IB subject depth without six-subject breadth, and tutoring usually concentrates on the DP courses carried into it plus the personal and professional skills component.

CP provision in Dubai is limited, so a Villanova family weighing it is usually also weighing a school change and a longer commute. Because Ministry of Education equivalency rules are published in specific terms for the British track and not for the IB, check any post-16 route against moe.gov.ae or the emirate attestation authority before deciding on that basis.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IB subjects most requested from the Dubailand belt, with what each assesses and the specific place marks go missing. Availability is tightest in the Higher Level sciences and in Maths AA HL.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-led and calculator-dependent. Students arrive expecting an easier course and meet chi-squared tests, regression and hypothesis testing. Most lost marks are process marks: an answer with no stated test, or a calculator output transcribed without the method visible. The HL content adds substantial breadth that SL students underestimate.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof and calculus. HL Paper 3 is a 60-minute extended-response paper worth 20 per cent of the grade and is the single biggest differentiator at HL. Marks leak in binomial proof, sequences and chain-rule differentiation under time pressure rather than in unfamiliar content.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-dense, with command terms deciding the ceiling on each answer. 'Outline', 'explain' and 'discuss' carry different expectations. Genetics and the nerve-and-hormone material produce the widest spread in Dubai cohorts, and HL students routinely under-practise the statistics inside data-analysis questions.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics and organic mechanisms carry the HL grade. Curly-arrow convention is the most diagnosable error in the subject: students who understand the reaction but start the arrow from the wrong electron pair lose the mark every time. Paper 1 timing is where SL students shed recoverable points.

Physics

HL and SL

Rewards unit discipline, graph reading and derivation over recall. Fields and circular motion are the reliable weak points once mechanics is secure. The data-based question punishes anyone who has not plotted error bars by hand, and extended response punishes description where derivation was asked for.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy is the fastest available gain: a correctly labelled, correctly shifted diagram earns marks prose cannot recover. The three IA commentaries, each on a different unit and each word-limited, separate organised students from capable ones. HL adds quantitative work students often meet too late.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-based and stimulus-driven. Students lose marks by applying Ansoff or break-even correctly in the abstract and never referring to the case. The pre-released Paper 1 case study rewards structured reading months in advance, which almost nobody does without prompting.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Two of three assessed components are oral or non-literary, which surprises students expecting novel essays. The Individual Oral requires a global issue narrow enough to sustain ten minutes and two extracts chosen well in advance; a vague global issue is the commonest cause of a low mark.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Distinct from the KHDA-mandated Arabic provision in school but running alongside it. Assessed through text handling, writing and two oral components. Register is where non-Arab students lose marks most often — formal tasks answered in informal grammar — rather than vocabulary range.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An exhibition of three objects with commentary, plus a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title. More coachable than students expect: most low marks come from objects that illustrate a point rather than evidence a knowledge claim. A tutor may challenge the reasoning; the writing must be the student's own work.

Extended Essay

Core

Four thousand words of independent research with a school supervisor. Support is process coaching: narrowing the question, building a source base, managing reflection sessions and keeping to the limit. We do not draft, rewrite or edit an Extended Essay to completion, and no legitimate tutor will.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are realistically available to a Villanova family, and only one of them removes the journey for both sides. All IB Gram teaching is delivered live online, one-to-one or in a small pair.

Weekly one-to-one, slot fixed to the bus

The same specialist at the same time each week, set against your child's real arrival time rather than a tutor's route or a centre's timetable. For a single weak subject through MYP or DP1 this is the default. The value of fixing it is that a Villanova afternoon with two school timetables in it stops being renegotiated every Sunday.

  • 60 minutes for most under-14s, 90 for exam-year work
  • Same tutor weekly, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Notes after each session naming coverage and homework
  • Can shift later during Ramadan or hold through holidays

Short diagnostic block

Three to five sessions with a defined question: why is this student losing marks, and is the problem content, method or reading. It ends with an answer and a recommendation, which may be that weekly tuition is unnecessary. Families who have been told by a centre that their child needs a year of classes often find this is the cheaper and more honest first step.

  • Starts from marked work, not from a placement test
  • Produces a written diagnosis, not a sales plan
  • Can conclude that no further tuition is needed
  • Typically three to five sessions, then a decision

Pairs across neighbouring communities

Two students at the same level in the same subject, taught together online. Because there is no travel, a Villanova student and a Serena or Mudon student can share a slot without either family driving. Good for content and exam technique; unsuitable for Internal Assessment supervision, where the work must be individual and the conversation private.

  • Same subject, same level, similar starting point
  • Two to four students so everyone still speaks
  • No journey for either household
  • Not used for IA, EE or TOK supervision

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Villanova

01

What a 'near me' search actually returns in Dubailand

  • Map results rank proximity and prominence, not teaching quality at HL
  • Run one search for what is near you and a second for subject and level
  • For Higher Level sciences the two shortlists rarely overlap
  • IB Gram has no UAE centre, office or home-visit service

Type the phrase from a Villanova address and the results are shaped by who has a verified business location, not by who teaches the IB well. You get tuition centres in Motor City and Sports City with map pins, directory listings for agencies based elsewhere in Dubai that have added 'Dubailand' to a service-area list, and freelance adverts whose location field is aspirational. None of those signals subject-level competence at Higher Level.

That is not a criticism of the businesses; it is how local search works. A map pack ranks proximity, prominence and relevance to a business category. 'Teaches Chemistry HL to a standard that fixes a 4 into a 6' is not a business category. So the result set answers a question about geography while the parent was asking a question about teaching, and the gap between the two is invisible until week three.

The practical move is to run two searches rather than one. Use the local search to find out what venues and in-home options genuinely exist near you and what they charge, because that is real information and this page quotes the market rates below. Then run a second, separate search on subject and level — Maths AA HL, Biology HL, Economics IA — and compare the two shortlists. For a mainstream need they may overlap. For a Higher Level science they usually do not.

IB Gram sits firmly on the second list. There is no centre near Villanova, no UAE office, and no tutor who will arrive at a Dubailand address; home visits are an India-only service. What exists is one-to-one live online teaching with a specialist in the specific subject and level, scheduled around the bus. If that trade is not what you want, the local list is genuinely worth working through.

02

The minutes proximity actually saves, counted honestly

Put numbers on it and the convenience argument changes shape. The table below compares the three realistic options for a Villanova family on an ordinary weekday: drive to a centre in the nearest cluster, host a tutor who drives to you, or run the session online. The columns are the things that actually differ — your driving, the tutor's driving, how much of the household's evening is consumed, and how wide the pool of available teachers is.

The result is not subtle. A centre in Motor City costs a parent fifty to eighty minutes of driving and waiting per session. An in-home visit costs the parent nothing in driving but is paid for in the rate, because the tutor's forty to sixty minutes each way is priced into the hour — market in-home rates run roughly AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 for the same qualified tutor online. An online session costs neither side any travel at all.

The column worth staring at is the last one. Proximity-based options are selected from whoever is close; online options are selected from whoever teaches the subject. For Year 7 maths that difference may not matter. For Chemistry HL with an Internal Assessment due, it is the difference between a specialist and a capable generalist, and the generalist will cost the same or more.

Where a venue genuinely wins: a student who cannot concentrate at home, a household with no quiet room, or a parent who wants the child out of the house for an hour. Those are real reasons and the centres in Motor City and Sports City serve them. They are not reasons that apply to most Villanova families most of the time.

03

The three provider models near you, compared on model not brand

'Near me' returns at least three different kinds of business, and parents often compare their prices without noticing that they are not the same product. A tuition centre sells scheduled capacity: a room, a timetable and a teacher who may be assigned rather than chosen. A freelance tutor sells their own hours directly, which is why rates vary so widely and why verification falls entirely on the parent. An agency or platform sells matching and replacement.

The table below compares those models on the things that actually differ in practice. It deliberately compares models rather than brands, and quotes rates only where the party named has published them, with the source stated. Comparing yourself against an unnamed 'other platforms' straw man is the standard move in this market and it tells a parent nothing.

Two columns deserve attention. The replacement column matters because tutor turnover is the commonest cause of a failed arrangement: when the tutor leaves, a freelance relationship ends and the family starts again, whereas a matched arrangement should produce a replacement with the notes intact. The permit column matters because private tutoring in the UAE requires a MoHRE permit, and a parent hiring directly is the one who should be checking it.

What none of the models can offer is a guarantee of a grade, and any that does should be read carefully. There is no honest version of that promise in any model, and a refund clause only means something if the exact terms are published on the same page where the promise is made.

What the Dubai market charges, and what the travel premium buys

Take the proximity question to its logical end: what is a nearby tutor's drive actually worth in money? The answer is roughly AED 50 to 150 an hour, and for Villanova it sits at the top of that spread because the community is far enough out that few tutors reach it quickly. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350, while independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. The same qualified tutor teaching online sits at roughly AED 150 to 300.

That premium does not buy teaching. It buys presence, and presence is worth paying for in specific cases: a young child who needs an adult in the room, a student with a need that makes screen work genuinely harder, a household where the only quiet surface is the dining table and someone has to sit at it. Those are real. Paying the premium because 'in person must be better' is the commonest avoidable cost in this belt.

The table below lays out the full market from the budget end upwards, with every figure attributed to whoever published it. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list; we quote per student after the free trial because an Economics IA block and a Year 5 numeracy slot are not the same product and should not carry the same number. Monthly packages visible in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

For budgeting, Bestimate's monthly estimates for one hour a week are AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A Diploma family running one specialist subject weekly for a year should plan against the third of those figures, not the first.

Where availability is genuinely tight, and what we do about it

  • Tightest coverage: Chemistry HL, Physics HL, Maths AA HL, TOK, Arabic first language
  • We offer the real slots, give an honest wait estimate, or tell you to look elsewhere
  • A generalist is never substituted into a specialist request
  • Ask three to four weeks ahead for niche HL subjects and coursework support

No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is a strange silence given that every tutoring service has one. Ours is specific and worth stating: the tightest availability is in Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Maths AA HL, Theory of Knowledge supervision, and Arabic as a first language at Diploma level. Those are the requests most likely to come back with a wait rather than a slot.

What happens when a request lands in one of those gaps matters more than the gap itself. The honest options are to offer the windows that genuinely exist even if they are not your preferred ones, to give a realistic estimate of when the preferred window may open, or to say that we cannot cover it and that you should look elsewhere. All three get used. What does not happen is a general tutor placed into a specialist slot, which solves our scheduling problem by transferring the real one to you.

This is also where the geography argument inverts completely. A near-me search in Dubailand for Chemistry HL has a genuinely small candidate set, and a family that insists on proximity may find nobody at all and settle for a generalist. Removing the travel requirement means the question becomes one of calendar availability rather than catchment, which is a much easier constraint to work around.

Practical advice, independent of who you use: for niche Higher Level subjects and for coursework supervision, ask three to four weeks before you need to start. The week before an Internal Assessment deadline is when every family in Dubai asks the same question, and good supervision cannot be conjured at that notice by anyone.

06

Reading your school's KHDA inspection report properly

  • KHDA inspects on six bands; a band describes a school, not a department
  • Ask about the subject and level, not the headline rating
  • Dubai: 227 private schools, 17 curricula, 387,441 students (2024-25)
  • No fee increase for 2026-27, confirmed by KHDA in May 2026

KHDA is 'responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education' in Dubai, per u.ae, and it inspects private schools on a six-band scale. Those bands appear in school marketing constantly and are understood by parents rarely. They describe a whole school across many measures, which means a school in a strong band can still have a weak department, and a school in a middling band can have an outstanding one.

That is the practical lesson for a tutoring decision. The question is never 'is this a good school' but 'how is this department, for this subject, at this level'. A Diploma cohort's results in Chemistry HL can differ sharply from the school's overall band, and the school's own subject reports or a conversation with the head of department tells you more about whether your child needs support than the inspection headline does.

Context worth having: Dubai's private sector has 227 schools teaching 17 curricula to 387,441 students as of 2024-25, and the sector is still growing — seven new private schools were approved for the 2026-27 intake, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after six opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package.

A necessary clarification, because the phrase is abused across this market: naming KHDA and explaining what it does is not a claim of approval. IB Gram holds no KHDA permit of any kind, and the KHDA Educational Services Permit that does exist applies to training institutes with premises in Dubai. Any service that describes its tutors as approved by KHDA is making a claim you should ask it to evidence with a permit number.

07

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the IB

  • Mandatory in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum (KHDA)
  • Separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs; combined classes prohibited
  • Instructional time based on a 40-minute lesson unit; 25 minutes advised as a minimum
  • Additional or different content needs prior MoE permission — tutoring follows the school's programme

This is the part of a Dubai IB timetable that tutoring services almost never mention, and it is mandatory. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with the requirements to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year, or April 2026 for schools whose year begins in April.

The organisational rules are specific enough to matter. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, Arabic for Social Studies for Arab students, and the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and Moral, Social and Cultural studies.

Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory-subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. Schools must also ensure all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. For these subjects specifically, the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited.

What that means for tutoring is narrower than parents assume and should be said plainly. Support in these subjects follows the school's own approved programme rather than any alternative syllabus, and it works best as language and study-skills help alongside the school's material. For a non-Arab Diploma student, these periods are real additional workload in a language not used at home, and they are frequently the only part of the week nobody is helping with.

08

Who regulates what, across the seven emirates

A Villanova family only needs KHDA today, but UAE households move, and the regulator changes with the emirate rather than following the school group. The map is complete and published on u.ae, and it is worth knowing before a move to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah turns into a surprise.

Dubai sits with KHDA. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain sit with ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in that emirate — and which, remarkably, is named by none of the competitor pages researched for this market. Sharjah sits with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education.

The powers are not identical. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum and fee approval sits with the emirate regulator rather than only inspection. At the federal level, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations — which is the rule behind every emirate's mandatory-subject requirement.

One Abu Dhabi rule is worth knowing even from Dubai, because families cross the border for schools. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That is press-reported rather than read from the policy document, so verify it before relying on the exact wording — but never arrange for your child's own class teacher to tutor them privately.

Where we tutor

Villanova and what 'near' means around it

Proximity in Dubailand is best measured in afternoon minutes rather than kilometres. These are the communities around Villanova and what the drive between them actually looks like at school-run time.

Villanova

Clusters including Amaranta, Casa Dora, La Rosa and Tulipa, off Al Qudra Road. Fibre connectivity throughout, which is the practical precondition for online tuition and the reason it is viable here now in a way it was not a decade ago. Young family profile, so primary and MYP demand leads.

Mudon

Five to ten minutes away and sharing much of the same school intake. Families here often field two bus timetables from one household, which is why back-to-back sibling slots rarely work and staggered ones do.

Serena

Comparable stock, nearly identical school intake, and close enough that word-of-mouth moves between the two communities. A tutor covering a Villanova household and a Serena one in consecutive online slots is common and costs nobody a journey.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

The nearest cluster of schools and tuition centres, and the nearest thing to a literal answer to 'near me'. Twenty-five to forty minutes each way from Villanova between 16:00 and 17:00, before parking and waiting time.

Arabian Ranches and Ranches 3

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes, and the easiest school run in the belt. Families here start sessions earlier than Villanova does, which is worth knowing when comparing notes with a neighbour whose child attends a different school.

Dubai Hills Estate

Closer to Al Khail Road and therefore to the Al Barsha IB schools. The commute advantage shows up as earlier realistic session starts and a higher appetite for two sessions a week in the Diploma years.

Town Square and Remraam

Apartment-dense and further out respectively. In both, finding a quiet room for a video lesson is a real constraint that is better solved before a weekly slot is booked than after. Evening slots after 19:00 are the norm here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Villanova

Dubailand, Motor City and Arabian Ranches

The genuinely near cluster. Bus returns to Villanova from this group typically land between 15:40 and 16:20, which supports a 16:30 or 17:00 session. This is also where the belt's tuition centres sit, so it is the realistic comparison for a venue-based option.

  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • Victory Heights Primary School
  • Jebel Ali School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Ranches Primary School
  • South View School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School

Al Barsha and Jumeirah South

Where most of Dubai's full IB continuum provision sits. Thirty-five to fifty minutes back to Villanova against the afternoon flow, which means students travelling here are the ones for whom an 18:00 or later online slot is not a compromise but the only workable option.

  • GEMS World Academy, Dubai
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School, Dubai
  • Safa Community School
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Dubai British School, Jumeirah Park

Named schools describe the educational context around Villanova and the commutes families face; no affiliation, endorsement, partnership or client relationship with any named school or group is implied or held.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the arrival time, not just the subject

The useful first message says which school, which year group, which subject and level, and what time your child actually walks through the door. With those four facts we can tell you honestly whether the subject is covered and which slots exist. A subject name alone takes two more exchanges before anyone can answer anything.

  2. 02

    Matched by subject and level

The tutor is chosen because they teach that subject at that level — Maths AI SL and Maths AA HL are different jobs — rather than because a slot was free. If the right specialist is not available in your window you are told, with an honest estimate of when that may change, rather than offered a substitute.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson, taught by the matched tutor

The first session is a real lesson with the person who would continue, not a consultation. No card is required. It exists to produce a diagnosis: what your child can already do, which paper or criterion the marks are leaking from, and whether the pair of them work well together. A wrong fit means another match.

  4. 04

A plan set against your school's dates

You get a short written plan after the trial, ordered by what the evidence shows and timed against your school's own internal deadlines and mock weeks rather than a generic syllabus sweep. The slot and the tutor are then fixed, so the household's afternoon stops being negotiated weekly.

  5. 05

Notes every week, review when something lands

Each session produces notes naming what was taught and what was set, which matters when two parents on different schedules both need the picture. When a report, mock or result arrives the plan is revised rather than continued out of habit, and if the subject no longer needs weekly support we will say so.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The travel disappears for both sides

No parent drives to Motor City and no tutor drives to Al Qudra Road, which removes fifty to eighty minutes of household time per session compared with a centre and removes the travel premium from the rate compared with a home visit. The session time can then be chosen around the bus instead of around a route.

Selection by subject, not by catchment

IB students are a minority of Dubai's private-school population, so subject specialists at Higher Level are thinly spread geographically. Matching online means the pool is chosen on who teaches Chemistry HL rather than on who lives within twenty minutes of Dubailand.

Coverage limits stated, not hidden

Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Maths AA HL, TOK supervision and first-language Arabic are where availability is tightest. We say so, offer the slots that exist, and tell families to look elsewhere when we cannot cover something — rather than filling the gap with a generalist.

Regulators named, never claimed

KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education and MoHRE are described on this page because knowing what they do is useful. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from any of them, has no UAE office or centre, and claims no named school as a client.

Every figure carries its source

Each AED band is attributed to the competitor or rate table that published it and presented as the market rather than our price. We publish no statistic without a source, no self-awarded rating, and no IB exam date we have not been able to verify against an official page.

A defined finish, not a standing order

Most problems in this belt are finite: one criterion, one paper, one coursework deadline. A short diagnostic block that ends in a recommendation — sometimes that no tuition is needed — is cheaper and more honest than a weekly slot that runs until somebody notices it is no longer earning its place.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Villanova: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor based near Villanova, or will it be online?+

With IB Gram it is online, every time. We have no centre in Dubailand, no UAE office, and no tutor who travels to a UAE address — home visits are a service we run only in India. Teaching is one-to-one over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time around your child's arrival home. Tuition centres do exist nearby in Motor City and Sports City, and independent in-home tutors work in this belt at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, so if a venue or a visitor is what you want, those options are real and worth pricing.

How much time does a nearby tutor actually save a Villanova household?+

If the tutor comes to you, nothing in driving — you save the journey you would have made to a centre, which is twenty-five to forty minutes each way to Motor City plus waiting, so roughly two hours of household time per session. An online lesson saves exactly the same journey. The difference is in the rate and the pool: the in-home option prices the tutor's forty to sixty minutes each way into the hour, and restricts you to tutors willing to drive to Al Qudra Road. Online costs no travel on either side and selects on subject instead.

Why does a search for an IB tutor near me in Villanova return tuition centres?+

Because local search ranks businesses by proximity, prominence and category relevance, and a tuition centre with a verified address in Motor City satisfies all three. 'Can teach Chemistry HL to the level that moves a 4 to a 6' is not a category any map can rank on. The practical response is to treat the local results as information about venues and prices near you, which is genuinely useful, and to run a separate search on subject and level for the teaching question. For Higher Level sciences the two lists rarely contain the same names.

What do IB tutors charge in the Dubailand area?+

Market figures, with sources: qualified subject tutors teaching online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200; IB and IGCSE specialists are quoted at AED 200 to 450 or more, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 table at AED 200 to 450+; in-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel; and premium named tutors reach AED 650, per BartyED. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 240 to 600 for budget weekly sessions and AED 1,000 to 2,000+ for specialist exam-year support. IB Gram's own rate is quoted after the free trial.

Which schools near Villanova offer the full IB programme?+

Full IB continuum provision around Dubailand is limited, and most Villanova families on an IB track travel towards Al Barsha, where schools such as GEMS World Academy Dubai, Dubai International Academy Al Barsha and Nord Anglia International School Dubai sit. Closer in, Fairgreen International School in The Sustainable City is the nearest IB option for many families in this belt. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds three new International Baccalaureate schools alongside four UK-curriculum ones, so provision is expanding. We name schools as local context; no affiliation with any of them is implied or held.

Does my child need to be good with computers for online IB lessons?+

No more than for schoolwork, which in the Diploma is already largely screen-based. What matters is a quiet room, a stable connection — Villanova has fibre throughout, which removes the main technical obstacle — and a notebook, because the most useful IB work still happens on paper and is then held up to the camera or photographed. Younger children need an adult nearby for the first few sessions to settle the routine. Sixteen-year-olds generally work better without a parent in the room narrating the lesson from behind them.

Which IB subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in this part of Dubai?+

Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Maths Analysis and Approaches at HL, Theory of Knowledge supervision and Arabic as a first language at Diploma level. Those are the requests most likely to come back with a wait rather than a slot, from any provider. If you need one of them, ask three to four weeks ahead rather than in the week a deadline lands. If we cannot cover it we will say so and suggest you look elsewhere, which is more useful than placing a general tutor into a specialist request.

Can I choose the tutor myself rather than be assigned one?+

You approve the match, which in practice is the part that matters. We propose a specialist for the subject and level, you meet them in a free trial lesson, and you decide whether to continue. If the pace or the communication style does not suit your child, say so and we match again — mismatches are usually about style rather than competence and are obvious to everyone inside one session. What we do not do is present a long list for you to sift, because selecting a Higher Level specialist from a profile page is a harder job than it looks.

What does my school's KHDA rating tell me about whether my child needs tutoring?+

Less than parents assume. KHDA inspects Dubai private schools across six bands from Outstanding to Very Weak, and a band describes a whole school across many measures. A strongly rated school can have a weak department, and a middling school can have an excellent one. For a tutoring decision, the useful questions are about the subject and level: how did last year's Chemistry HL cohort do, what does the head of department say about the current group, and what do your child's own marked papers show. The inspection headline answers none of those.

Do IB tutors working with students in Dubai need a government permit?+

Yes. Individuals providing private tutoring in the UAE need a MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, applied for through MoHRE's Private Tutor Licensing service. Operating without one attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no fine schedule is published, so treat any quoted figure as unverified. A permit confirms lawfulness, not teaching ability.

Can my child's own teacher at their Dubai school tutor them privately?+

It is not an arrangement to pursue. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. That position is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify the current wording with the school or the authority. The underlying conflict of interest is obvious enough that the safest route is a tutor with no connection to the school.

How quickly can a Villanova family get started after enquiring?+

For mainstream subjects and levels, usually within a few days, because there is no travel to schedule and the only constraint is the specialist's calendar. For the tight categories — Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Maths AA HL, coursework supervision — it can be two to four weeks, and we will tell you which case you are in rather than booking you into a holding pattern. The free trial lesson is the first session either way, so you will know whether the match works before any paid block is arranged.

Are Arabic and Islamic Education required for an IB student at a Dubai school?+

Yes. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit and at least 25 minutes advised for any mandatory-subject lesson. Separate classes must be organised for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes are prohibited. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education must hold appropriate KHDA approval. Because additional or different content requires prior Ministry permission for these subjects, tutoring here follows the school's approved programme rather than any alternative syllabus.

If we move from Dubai to Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, does anything change?+

The regulator does, and with it some of the rules. Dubai sits with KHDA; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain with ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation of private schools; Sharjah with the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah with its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah with the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve fees, curricula and assessment methods. Online tuition itself travels with you, which is one practical advantage for families who relocate inside the UAE mid-programme.

Measure the minutes, then choose

If you are searching for an IB tutor near me in Villanova, do the arithmetic before you shortlist. Count the journey to the nearest centre, count what a visiting tutor's drive adds to the hour, and then ask whether the person at the end of either journey teaches your child's subject at your child's level. For a Higher Level science the answer often decides it. Send us the school, the year group, the subject and level, and the time your child gets home, and you will get a straight answer about coverage and slots. The first lesson is free, taught by the tutor who would continue, live and online.
