IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Quoz 4

Most families looking for an IGCSE science tutor in Al Quoz 4 have already been quoted three very different numbers and cannot tell which one is reasonable. This page publishes the Dubai market bands with the source for each, shows where the spend commonly goes to waste, and names the papers worth paying to improve. Teaching is live online, one-to-one, for households across Al Quoz 4, Al Safa and Umm Al Sheif.

IB & IGCSE in Al Quoz 4

What science tuition costs around Al Quoz 4, and what it buys

A family in Al Quoz 4 asking about IGCSE science tuition will be quoted anything from AED 45 to AED 650 an hour depending on who answers the phone. Nothing on most providers' pages explains the spread, and three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all. One of them asks the cost question in its own list of frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it. That is not a pricing strategy; it is a reason to make the first call elsewhere.

The spread is real and it maps onto something. At the bottom sits a university student working through set homework with your child. At the top sits a scarce specialist in the final term before an exam series. Both are legitimate purchases and they solve different problems. The expensive mistake is buying the first when the problem needs the second, or the second when the problem was never academic in the first place.

Where money gets wasted in this neighbourhood follows a pattern. Families pay for general science support when the mark loss is concentrated in one paper. They pay for two-hour sessions because the package was sold that way, when a fifteen-year-old loses focus at seventy minutes. They pay a travel premium for a tutor crossing Dubai to reach Al Quoz 4 and attribute the higher rate to higher quality. And they pay for months of topic revision while leaving the alternative-to-practical paper, worth a fifth of the grade, entirely untouched.

On delivery, the honest position: IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Science lessons for Al Quoz 4 families are delivered live online, one-to-one, with a shared whiteboard and a camera on the student's working. The cost consequence is straightforward. An hour of teaching stays an hour of teaching rather than an hour of teaching plus ninety minutes of driving that somebody has to pay for.

What makes the biggest difference to a bill is not the hourly rate but the diagnosis. A student entered for Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 who is losing most of their marks on Paper 6 needs perhaps six focused sessions, not a year of weekly lessons. A student who has been placed on Core when they could manage Extended needs a conversation with the school rather than a tutor. Both of those save a family real money, and neither is a conversation most providers are keen to have.

Dubai context helps too. KHDA figures for 2024-25 record 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula, with UK curriculum the largest share of enrolment. KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year. For many households the flat school bill is exactly what makes a weekly science session affordable, which is worth knowing when planning a two-year spend rather than a monthly one.

Cambridge separate sciences

Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625, taken as three separate qualifications. Extended candidates sit a multiple-choice paper worth 30%, a theory paper worth 50%, and either a practical test or the alternative to practical worth 20%. Three separate sciences is the heaviest option on the timetable and the one that most often produces a request for help in a single subject rather than all three.

Schools around Al Safa, Al Barsha and Jumeirah that send students into A Level or the IB Diploma usually push able candidates towards the separates, because the Extended content maps better onto what comes next. For an Al Quoz 4 family, the cost implication is that three subjects may genuinely need three different tutors.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences 0654

A double award covering biology, chemistry and physics in one qualification worth two grades. Extended candidates sit Paper 2 multiple choice at 30%, Paper 4 theory at 50% and Paper 6 alternative to practical at 20%. Content is broad rather than deep, which changes revision strategy: the risk is thin coverage across many topics rather than confusion within one.

This is the most common science entry among British-curriculum schools in Dubai for students not heading into science at A Level. Tutoring for it is usually cheaper in total than separates, because one tutor can cover all three disciplines at this depth.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences

Biology 4BI1, Chemistry 4CH1, Physics 4PH1 and the Science Double Award 4SD0. Pearson's papers are structured differently from Cambridge's and practical skills are assessed within the written papers rather than in a separate practical test. A tutor who teaches one board's past papers to a student entered for the other is a straightforward waste of money.

A sizeable minority of Dubai schools use Pearson rather than Cambridge, and some use both across different subjects. Ask the school which board each science is entered with; families are frequently surprised that it is not the same for all three.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes next: IB Diploma or A Level

An IGCSE science grade is a gate. Diploma science at Higher Level and A Level sciences both assume the Extended content, and students arriving from Core or from a combined course start with a content gap rather than an ability gap. Spending on Year 11 science is often better value than spending on Year 12 remediation for the same reason.

Many Al Quoz 4 students move from an IGCSE school into Diploma provision in Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim at sixteen. That transfer is the point at which a Core entry becomes visible as a limitation, so it is worth testing a tier decision in Year 10 rather than accepting it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science requests from this area are rarely for all three disciplines at once. These are the subjects most often asked for, with the specific component each is usually bought to improve.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and waves produce most of the mark loss, usually through formula rearrangement rather than concept. Extended candidates also need confident graph gradient work for the theory paper.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations and ionic equations are the recurring failures. Organic chemistry is shallower than students expect and is often the cheapest grade gain available late in Year 11.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Pearson 4BI1

Content volume rather than difficulty. Marks go on imprecise terminology and on extended-response questions that describe when the command term asked for an explanation.

Co-ordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0654 double award

All three disciplines at reduced depth, examined as Papers 2, 4 and 6. The risk is thin coverage, so tutoring works topic-by-topic against the syllabus checklist rather than by textbook chapter.

Combined Science

Cambridge 0653 single award

One grade across three disciplines. Usually chosen for timetable reasons, and the main tutoring question is whether the student should be moved to the double award while there is still time.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Pearson 4MA1

Bought alongside science more often than any other subject, because rearranging formulae and reading graphs are the mechanical skills physics and chemistry papers assume.

Alternative to Practical

Paper 6 across Cambridge sciences

Worth 20% of the grade and frequently untaught. It rewards knowing how apparatus is drawn, how a variable is controlled, and how a table is set out — all learnable in a handful of sessions.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 · Pearson 4EA1

Requested when extended-response marks are being lost in science as well. Writing precisely to a command term transfers directly between the two.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Taken by students heading for A Level or Diploma sciences. Useful groundwork for the algebra that physics at the next level assumes without teaching.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy science support here, with the cost logic of each. All are delivered live online.

Single-component block

A short run of sessions aimed at one paper rather than a subject. The usual case is Paper 6 alternative to practical, worth a fifth of the grade and often never taught directly. Six to eight sessions covers apparatus diagrams, variable control, table and graph conventions and the standard question types.

  • Priced as a finite block, not an open-ended arrangement
  • Targets a known weighting rather than general improvement
  • Usually the cheapest route to a visible grade change

Weekly subject tuition

One standing hour through Year 10 and 11 in a single science. Sixty minutes suits this age group better than ninety; concentration in a fifteen-year-old drops sharply past about seventy minutes, and a two-hour session sold as better value frequently is not.

  • Sixty-minute sessions, same slot weekly
  • Work set between sessions and marked against the mark scheme
  • Topic record visible to the parent so spend is auditable

Shared household slot

Two siblings in consecutive slots on the same evening with the same tutor where subjects allow. Because nobody travels, the second slot costs nothing extra to arrange, and the tutor already knows the household's timetable. This is the only genuine discount mechanism in this market that does not reduce teaching quality.

  • Back-to-back slots on one evening
  • Works where both students sit the same board
  • No travel to absorb, so the arrangement is easy to hold

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Quoz 4

01

The Dubai science tuition bands, with the source for each

Here is the market, cheapest first, with who publishes what. Budget online tuition from university-student tutors runs roughly AED 45 to AED 150 per hour; EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject tutor working online is published at around AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors quoting IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. In-home one-to-one visits, travel included, run roughly AED 180 to AED 500: Bestimate puts them at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500.

Above that sit the specialists. IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists are published at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and Bestimate's own specialist exam-year band reaching AED 450 and beyond. Premium named or examiner-led provision reaches AED 500 to AED 650, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Monthly packages seen in this market include online bundles near AED 799 for eight sessions and in-home bundles of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits.

Converting to a monthly figure, Bestimate's estimates for one weekly hour are roughly AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to over AED 2,000 for specialist exam-year support. For a two-year IGCSE run that is a meaningful number, and it is the number a family should plan against rather than the hourly rate.

None of these are IB Gram prices. They are what the Dubai market publishes, cited so a parent can check them. Our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about which component actually needs work, because the honest answer in a good proportion of cases is fewer sessions than the family expected.

02

Five ways science tuition money is wasted in this neighbourhood

  • Buying a subject when the mark loss sits in one component
  • Drilling the wrong board's past papers
  • Two-hour sessions bought as a discount
  • Reading a travel premium as a quality premium
  • No agreed end point, so a block becomes a subscription

The first and largest waste is buying a subject when the problem is a paper. A Cambridge science grade is 30% multiple choice, 50% theory and 20% practical or alternative to practical. A student losing most of their marks on Paper 6 does not need a year of topic revision; they need six sessions on apparatus diagrams, variable control and table conventions. Families routinely spend ten times what the fix requires because nobody looked at the component breakdown.

The second is the wrong board. Cambridge and Pearson structure their papers differently and assess practical skills differently. A tutor drilling Cambridge 0625 past papers with a student entered for Pearson 4PH1 is teaching real physics and the wrong exam. Ask the school which board each science is entered with, and do not assume it is the same for all three, because frequently it is not.

The third is session length sold as value. Two-hour sessions appear in several published packages in this market. A fifteen-year-old's useful attention in a one-to-one science session runs to about seventy minutes, and the final fifty are mostly expensive company. Two sixty-minute sessions on separate days produce more than one two-hour block at the same cost, and the research on spacing has said so for a long time.

The fourth is paying a travel premium and reading it as quality. The in-home band sits above the equivalent online band because somebody is driving to Al Quoz 4 in late-afternoon traffic. That is a real cost and it is honestly charged, but it buys a journey. The fifth waste is the slowest: continuing a weekly arrangement for a year after the original problem was solved, because nobody set an exit point. A block with a defined end is cheaper than an open arrangement with good intentions.

03

The papers you are actually paying to improve

A Cambridge science entry at Extended tier is three papers. The multiple-choice paper carries 30% of the grade, the theory paper 50%, and either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper 20%. Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 follows the same pattern as Papers 2, 4 and 6. Those three numbers should govern where tuition money goes, and in practice they almost never do.

The theory paper deserves the largest share because it carries half the grade, but it is also the component where improvement is slowest, since it rewards accumulated content across the whole syllabus. The multiple-choice paper responds faster than families expect: much of the mark loss there is misreading the stem or eliminating two options and guessing between the remaining pair, and both are trainable in a few timed sets with every wrong option reviewed rather than just the right one identified.

The practical component is the one with the best return per hour spent. It tests a limited and highly predictable set of skills: drawing apparatus correctly, identifying independent and controlled variables, setting out a results table, plotting and reading a graph, and suggesting a specific improvement rather than a generic one. Students are rarely taught these as skills in their own right, which means the marks are sitting there for anyone who spends six sessions on them.

Tier choice sits underneath all of this. Core and Extended are different papers with different grade ceilings. A student placed on Core who could cope with Extended has had their maximum grade decided for them, and that decision is reviewable with the school while there is still time. It is the one conversation that can change an outcome without any tuition spend at all, and it is worth having before signing up for anything.

04

Paper 6 is where the cheap marks are

If a family in Al Quoz 4 can only afford a short block of science tuition, the alternative-to-practical paper is where to spend it. It is worth 20% of a Cambridge science grade, it tests a narrow and repetitive skill set, and it is the component schools have least curriculum time for, because practical lessons are usually spent doing the practical rather than rehearsing how it would be written up in an exam.

The question types recur almost without variation. Draw the apparatus you would use. Name the independent variable and two variables to keep constant. Complete the results table with appropriate headings and units. Plot the points and draw a line of best fit. Read a value from the graph. State one source of error and one specific improvement. A student who has practised each of those a dozen times answers them quickly and accurately, and a student who has not loses marks on every one.

The traps are small and consistent. Apparatus drawn in perspective rather than as a labelled section. Variables confused with measurements. A table with units in the cells rather than the header. A line of best fit drawn through the first and last points rather than through the trend. An improvement stated as 'repeat the experiment' or 'be more careful', neither of which earns a mark. Each of these is a correctable habit, not a gap in understanding.

For a student sitting the practical test rather than the alternative, the same skills apply with the added pressure of doing them in a room under time. The teaching is similar; the rehearsal differs. Either way, a block aimed squarely at this component is the clearest example in IGCSE science of a small spend with a measurable, predictable effect on a grade.

05

The journey, priced: online against in-home for Al Quoz 4

This page targets a search that assumes a tutor arriving in person, so the comparison should be made properly rather than avoided. In-home science tuition in Dubai is a real market with real practitioners. It costs more per hour at the same quality tier, and the difference is the drive. For Al Quoz 4, which sits in a mainly commercial district with few resident tutors, nearly every in-home quote is a travel quote.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all; home tutoring is an India-only service. Every lesson for a family here runs live online, one-to-one. The reason is partly cost and mostly supply: once the radius narrows to a tutor who can reach Al Quoz 4 by five o'clock, the person available is whoever is available, and for a specific Pearson science specification that is often nobody suitable.

The practical difference in a science lesson is smaller than people expect. A shared whiteboard handles apparatus diagrams and graph work better than paper, because both people can draw on the same figure. A camera on the student's written answers gives the tutor the same view a tutor at the table would have. The school lab remains the school lab in both cases; no visiting tutor brings one.

What online removes from the bill is the travel premium, and what it removes from the week is the risk. A session at 17:00 that depends on a drive from the other side of the city is a session that will be late sometimes. A session at 17:00 that depends on a laptop is not. Over a two-year IGCSE run, that reliability is worth more than most families estimate in advance.

Two years of science, costed in context

A family planning IGCSE science spend should look at the two-year figure rather than the hourly rate, because that is the decision actually being made. One weekly hour of mid-market online tuition across Years 10 and 11, excluding holidays, is on the order of AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month on Bestimate's estimates. Specialist exam-year support in Year 11 runs higher, AED 1,000 to over AED 2,000 a month. A finite component block is a fraction of either.

That sits against a school bill that is not rising this year: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Private provision in the emirate is also expanding, with seven new private schools and 16,846 new places announced for the 2026-27 intake and enrolment up 6% during 2025-26.

There are costs beyond tuition worth putting on the same page. Exam entry fees are payable through the school or, for a private candidate, through an exam centre, and they vary by board and subject count. Resit entries for the November series are a separate fee. Past papers and the syllabus document itself are published free by the boards, and no tutor should be charging for them or supplying copies; the correct route is to reference and link the official page.

Set against those, the most cost-effective interventions are unglamorous. Review the tier entry with the school. Confirm the board for each science. Spend a short block on the practical component. Then, if a weekly arrangement is still needed, set a review point at the end of a term rather than letting it run. A family that does those four things usually spends less and sees more movement than one that signs up for a year on the first phone call.

Permits, paperwork and what to ask before paying a deposit

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine amounts are published; treat quoted figures as unverified
  • A KHDA training-institute permit applies to premises, not to platforms
  • Ask which component the tutor thinks is losing the marks, and why
  • Set an end point before paying, not after

Private tutoring in the UAE operates under a permit regime. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with applications made through its app, website or e-services. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published; Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify amounts, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different matter and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, which is a specific thing issued to specific organisations and should never be implied by a platform that does not hold one. IB Gram does not.

Before paying a deposit, four questions are worth asking any science tutor. Which board and syllabus code has your child's school entered them for, and have you taught it? Which component do you think the marks are being lost on, and what evidence are you using? What is the agreed end point of this arrangement? And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition permit? A provider who answers the second question with a testimonial rather than a component is telling you something useful.

One further caution worth stating because competitors in this market breach it: no tutor may write, complete or produce assessed coursework, and no tutor should be supplying board-published past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. Reference them and link the official source. A service offering to produce a student's work is selling them a malpractice finding, and the consequence lands on the child.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Quoz 4

These notes are about what a family in each community actually pays and why, rather than a list of places served.

Al Quoz 4

A residential pocket in a mostly commercial district, so in-home tutors quoting here are usually travelling from elsewhere and pricing the journey. Online removes that line from the bill entirely.

Al Safa

Dense in British-curriculum schools, so the local tutor market is competitive and quotes cluster in the AED 150 to AED 300 band for a qualified subject tutor working online.

Al Manara

Villa community with short school runs. Families here are often quoted in-home rates near the top of the AED 200 to AED 500 range purely because villas suggest a willingness to pay it.

Umm Al Sheif

Immediately west, sharing school routes with Al Quoz 4. Households here frequently split one tutor across two siblings in consecutive slots, which is the cheapest real saving available.

Al Barsha South

Along Al Khail Road, with longer bus routes and later arrivals. A late slot narrows the available tutor pool, and a narrow pool is what pushes a quote upwards.

Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3

Progressively more industrial. Few tutors live here, so every in-home quote is a travel quote, and the differential against online is at its widest.

Business Bay

Apartment living with high school-choice variety, so two neighbours may sit different boards and cannot share a tutor however convenient it would be financially.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Quoz 4

Al Safa, Al Manara and Jumeirah

The nearest cluster and the one with most IGCSE provision. British-curriculum schools here run Year 11 entries across both Cambridge and Pearson, and in some cases across both boards within the same student's subject set, which is the first thing to confirm before paying for past-paper work.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Horizon English School
  • Safa British School
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School
  • Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira

Al Barsha, Al Sufouh and Umm Suqeim

Reached from Al Quoz 4 along Al Khail Road or Sheikh Zayed Road. This cluster includes schools that take students through IGCSE into either A Level or the Diploma, so tier decisions made in Year 10 here have visible consequences at sixteen.

  • Dubai College
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Confirm the board and the code

Get the syllabus code for each science from the school's entry list: 0610, 0620, 0625, 0654 for Cambridge, or 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1, 4SD0 for Pearson. Tutoring priced before this is tutoring priced blind, and drilling the wrong board's papers is the most common avoidable waste.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper, not a description

A marked mock or topic test shows which component is leaking marks and whether the cause is content, arithmetic, command-term reading or timing. Three pages of real working tells a tutor more than a paragraph of explanation, and it often shortens the plan.

  3. 03

Take a free trial and ask for a diagnosis

The trial lesson is live, one-to-one, and in the slot you intend to use. At the end, ask the tutor to name the component and the specific habit costing marks. A clear answer is the thing you are buying; a vague one is a reason to try somebody else.

  4. 04

Buy a block with an end point

Agree how many sessions, aimed at what, and what will be different at the end. A finite block against a known weighting is both cheaper and easier to judge than an open weekly arrangement that nobody reviews until the exam.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices published with their sources

Every AED figure on this page names who published it and which tier it sits in. Three of the best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and one asks the question in its own list of questions and then declines to answer.

Component diagnosis before a plan

A Cambridge science grade is 30%, 50% and 20% across three papers. We work out which of the three is losing marks before recommending anything, because that single step is what separates a six-session block from a two-year arrangement.

The practical paper taught deliberately

Alternative to practical carries a fifth of the grade and is the component schools have least time for. Apparatus diagrams, variable identification, table conventions and graph work are taught as skills with their own drills.

No travel in the hourly rate

Lessons are live online, so nothing is priced for a drive across Dubai to Al Quoz 4. The published in-home band sits above the online band for exactly that reason, and the difference is a journey rather than better teaching.

An agreed stopping point

We would rather recommend eight sessions that work than a year that drifts. Open arrangements are how families end up spending far more than the original problem required, and setting the end point at the start prevents it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Quoz 4: your questions answered

How much should IGCSE science tuition cost in Dubai right now?+

Published rates span a wide band, and the band maps onto what you get. Budget online tuition runs around AED 33 to AED 150 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33 and EdFlik from AED 45. Qualified subject tutors online sit at AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium provision reaches AED 650, as BartyED publishes. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to AED 500 because they include travel.

Which part of an IGCSE science grade is cheapest to improve?+

The alternative-to-practical paper, by a clear margin. It carries 20% of a Cambridge science grade and tests a narrow, repetitive skill set: drawing apparatus, naming independent and controlled variables, setting out a results table with units in the headers, plotting a line of best fit, reading a value off a graph, and suggesting a specific improvement rather than a generic one. Schools have little curriculum time for it because practical lessons are spent doing practicals. Six to eight focused sessions usually show up directly in the mark.

Why is an in-home science tutor in Al Quoz 4 quoted more per hour?+

Travel. Al Quoz 4 is a residential pocket inside a largely commercial district with few resident tutors, so nearly every in-home quote includes a drive across Dubai in late-afternoon traffic. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 an hour and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalent qualified tutor online. The premium is honestly charged and it buys a journey rather than better science teaching.

Does IB Gram send science tutors to homes in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Science lessons for Al Quoz 4 families are delivered live online, one-to-one, with a shared whiteboard both people can draw on and a camera on the student's written working. For apparatus diagrams and graph work the shared whiteboard is arguably better than paper. The school laboratory stays the school laboratory either way, since no visiting tutor brings one.

Is Co-ordinated Sciences 0654 easier to tutor than three separate sciences?+

Cheaper, usually, rather than easier. The double award covers biology, chemistry and physics at reduced depth in one qualification worth two grades, examined as Papers 2, 4 and 6. One tutor can realistically cover all three disciplines at that depth, where three separate sciences at Extended often genuinely need two or three different people. The risk with 0654 is thin coverage across many topics, so the work goes topic-by-topic against the syllabus checklist rather than chapter-by-chapter through a textbook.

Do we need to know the syllabus code before booking?+

Yes, and it is the single cheapest thing you can do. Cambridge codes are 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences and 0653 Combined Science; Pearson's are 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0 for the double award. The boards structure papers differently and assess practical skills differently, so a tutor drilling Cambridge past papers with a Pearson candidate is teaching real science against the wrong exam. Ask the school for the entry list, and do not assume all three sciences use the same board.

Are two-hour science sessions better value than two short ones?+

Rarely, for this age group. Several published packages in this market are sold as two-hour visits, and the length is presented as value. A fifteen-year-old's productive attention in a one-to-one science session runs to roughly seventy minutes, after which the remaining time is expensive company. Two sixty-minute sessions on separate days cost about the same and produce more, because the material is revisited rather than crammed. Ask for the shorter format even when the longer one is offered as a discount.

Can the school change my child from Core to Extended?+

It is a conversation worth having, and it costs nothing. Core and Extended are different papers with different grade ceilings, so a Core entry caps the maximum grade available regardless of how well the student performs. Schools make the tier decision on evidence from Year 10, and that evidence can be revisited while there is still time to switch. For a student heading towards A Level or Diploma sciences, Extended is the content those courses assume. Raise it before committing to any tuition spend.

What does a Year 10 and Year 11 science plan cost in total?+

Plan against the monthly figure rather than the hourly rate. Bestimate's estimates for one weekly hour are roughly AED 240 to AED 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to over AED 2,000 for specialist exam-year support. Across two academic years that is a substantial commitment, which is why a finite block aimed at one component is often the better first purchase. KHDA confirmed no private school fee increase in Dubai for 2026-27, which helps the overall household arithmetic.

Should we pay for past papers or mark schemes?+

No, and a tutor offering to supply them is a warning sign. Cambridge and Pearson publish syllabus documents and past materials through their own channels, and reproducing or redistributing them is a copyright matter rather than a service. The correct approach is to reference the official page and link to it. What you are paying a tutor for is the marking conversation afterwards: why this answer earned two marks out of four, and what the mark scheme actually wanted the student to write.

Can one tutor cover physics, chemistry and biology for Year 11?+

At Co-ordinated Sciences depth, usually yes. At separate-science Extended depth it is less realistic, and a tutor who claims equal strength in all three at that level is worth questioning. The practical compromise most Al Quoz 4 families reach is one tutor for the two sciences that share mathematical demands, physics and chemistry, with biology handled separately or left alone if the marks there are already secure. The decision should follow the marked papers rather than convenience.

Do tutors in Dubai need a licence, and should we check?+

Yes, and it takes one question. The UAE private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is administered by MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years, with a two-working-day completion time listed on MoHRE's own service page. Teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18 can all apply. Tutoring without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no amounts have been published.

When do IGCSE exams run for a student in Dubai?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; the February and March series is offered to India only, so it has no place in a Dubai plan. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and must use the timetable for its own zone. Check the live official timetable, because entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers themselves.

How many IGCSE subjects does the UAE equivalency process require?+

Five, not six. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires passes in five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure. Verify the current rule through the Ministry's own channel before acting on it.

Spend on the component, not the subject

Before paying for IGCSE science tuition, find the syllabus code, look at which of the three papers is losing marks, and check the tier entry with the school. Those three steps cost nothing and they frequently change the size of the purchase. If a block is still the answer, a free trial lesson with a tutor who teaches your child's actual board will tell you whether the diagnosis holds. We will give you the component, the habit costing the marks and an honest estimate of how many sessions it takes — including the cases where the answer is very few.
