IB Physics Tutor in Al Quoz 4

Parents searching for an IB physics tutor in Al Quoz 4 are usually asking one question: is there anybody near here who actually knows this syllabus? The honest answer is that proximity is the wrong filter. Al Quoz 4 sits between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, and the pool of people within a twenty-minute drive who can teach Theme D fields and coach a scientific investigation is small. IB Gram matches your child to a Physics specialist and teaches live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Specialists matched by theme and level, not by postcode distance
  • Live one-to-one video lessons timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Paper 1A, Paper 1B and Paper 2 technique taught separately
  • Scientific investigation coached against the four published criteria

Why a Physics specialist beats a nearby tutor for Al Quoz 4 families

Al Quoz 4 is a residential pocket inside a district most people associate with warehouses, galleries and car workshops. Families here live close to Al Safa and Al Manara, a short run from Umm Al Sheif, and within reach of the Al Khail Road corridor that feeds Al Barsha South and Dubai Hills Estate. What the neighbourhood does not have is a dense cluster of DP Physics teachers waiting for the phone to ring. Search for a tutor by distance and you get whoever lives nearby. That person may be excellent at GCSE-level mechanics and still be unable to tell you why your child's Theme D answer on gravitational potential scored two marks out of five.

Physics at Diploma level is not general science taught harder. It is a specific syllabus with five themes, a defined set of tools, and an assessment model that rewards a particular kind of written answer. A student can understand electromagnetic induction perfectly well in conversation and still lose marks because the question said 'explain' and the answer only described. That gap is a teaching problem, not an intelligence problem, and it is the single most common reason a bright Al Quoz 4 student sits at a 4 while believing they understand the material.

The honest position on location is this. IB Gram does not send a tutor to a UAE address — home visits are a service offered only in India. Lessons for Al Quoz 4 families run live over video, one-to-one, with a shared whiteboard and a document camera on the student's working. That constraint turns out to be an advantage for Physics specifically, because the subject lives in diagrams, graphs and worked algebra, all of which travel better over a screen than they do over a dining table with a tired tutor who has just driven in from Mirdif.

It also widens the pool enormously. Instead of choosing from the handful of DP Physics teachers who happen to live within driving distance of Al Quoz 4, a family chooses from specialists who have taught the themes their child is struggling with. If the problem is Theme A kinematics and the graph work underneath it, that is one kind of tutor. If the problem is a scientific investigation with no measurable independent variable three weeks before the school deadline, that is a different one. Distance would never have surfaced either.

Parents here tend to arrive with a specific trigger: a mock paper that came back lower than the predicted grade, a Theme E topic test on nuclear decay that went badly, or a school comment that the investigation plan is not viable. The first session is diagnostic rather than remedial. A tutor reads the actual script, finds whether marks were lost on physics, on mathematics, on command-term reading or on timing, and then builds a plan against that. Guessing which of the four it is wastes the first month of tuition, and that is the money most families regret spending.

At a glance

  • Current DP Physics is assessed by Paper 1A, Paper 1B, Paper 2 and one internal investigation — no Paper 3
  • The investigation is a single report of up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24
  • Theme D fields and Theme E nuclear and quantum physics are where HL candidates most often stall
  • Al Quoz 4 students attend schools across Al Safa, Al Barsha and Jumeirah, so school deadlines differ by weeks
  • Market rates for specialist IB science tuition in Dubai run roughly AED 200-450 per hour
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics sits at the end of a longer route. A DP Physics grade is shaped by what happened in MYP Sciences and in IGCSE or MYP mathematics two years earlier, so the programmes below matter even to a family whose only current question is about Year 13.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Five themes: A space, time and motion; B the particulate nature of matter; C wave behaviour; D fields; E nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level adds additional sub-topics within the same themes rather than a separate option. Assessment is Paper 1 (section A multiple choice, section B data and experimental), Paper 2 short and extended response, and the internally assessed scientific investigation worth 20% of the grade.

Dubai schools running DP Physics sit the May session, which places the investigation deadline somewhere in the first term of Year 13 for most Al Quoz 4 students. Schools near this neighbourhood set that internal deadline at noticeably different points, so a tutor working with two students from two schools is working to two calendars.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Sciences in MYP is assessed against four criteria — knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, reflecting on the impacts of science. Students work on a 1 to 8 scale per criterion. The physics content is lighter than IGCSE, but the investigation skills are heavier, which is why MYP students often arrive in DP strong on method and thin on algebra.

Several continuum schools serving the eastern and central parts of Dubai run MYP straight into DP without an IGCSE year. For an Al Quoz 4 family on that route, the gap to close before DP1 is almost always mathematical: rearranging formulae, handling indices, and reading gradients off a graph confidently.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Mathematics alongside Physics

Physics HL leans on Analysis and Approaches content: trigonometric functions for wave behaviour, logarithms for radioactive decay, and calculus intuition for rates of change in Theme A. Students taking Applications and Interpretation alongside Physics HL are not blocked, but they carry more mathematical load inside the Physics lessons themselves, and that changes how a tutoring plan is built.

University admissions teams at institutions in the UAE and abroad differ on whether they accept Applications and Interpretation for engineering entry. An Al Quoz 4 family choosing in Year 11 should check the specific course page rather than relying on general advice, and should treat Physics HL plus Analysis and Approaches as the lower-risk combination for engineering.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the entry route

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 both feed DP Physics. The Extended tier of 0625 covers the mathematical treatment DP assumes; the Core tier does not. A student entering DP Physics from Core, or from a school that taught combined science, starts with a content gap rather than an ability gap, and it is a closable one if it is identified early.

British-curriculum schools dominate private enrolment in Dubai, so a large share of DP Physics students in and around Al Quoz 4 come through IGCSE rather than MYP. The practical difference shows in Paper 1B: IGCSE candidates handle uncertainty and data better, MYP candidates handle investigation design better.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is the page you are reading, but almost no family tutors one subject in isolation. These are the subjects most often requested alongside DP Physics by households in and around Al Quoz 4, with the specific thing each one is tutored for.

Physics

DP HL and SL

Themes A to E, with Paper 1B data and experimental technique taught as its own skill. Marks are most often recovered in graph interpretation, uncertainty treatment and the difference between describe, explain and deduce.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The mathematics Physics HL assumes. Logarithmic manipulation for decay curves, trigonometric identities for superposition, and differentiation as a rate of change rather than a procedure to memorise.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics-heavy and modelling-led. Students pairing this with Physics HL need extra support on algebraic rearrangement, since the Physics papers assume fluency the AI course does not drill.

Chemistry

DP HL and SL

The common second science. Energetics and bonding reward the same quantitative discipline as Physics, and students who fix significant figures and unit handling in one subject usually gain marks in both.

Biology

DP HL and SL

Chosen by medicine applicants who also take Physics for engineering-adjacent options. The tutoring focus is command-term precision and the data-based questions that mirror Physics Paper 1B.

Computer Science

DP HL and SL

Pairs naturally with Physics HL. Support concentrates on the internal assessment solution scope and on the algorithmic thinking paper, which rewards the same stepwise reasoning as a Physics derivation.

Design Technology

DP HL and SL

Shares the investigation skills DP Physics assesses. Students taking both benefit from one tutor voice on experimental design, variable control and the evaluation criterion.

Economics

DP HL and SL

Often the third HL for a Physics student. Tutoring targets diagram accuracy and the evaluation sentence that converts a level-2 response into a level-3 one in the extended-response paper.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The TOK essay is a reasoning task, not a research task. Support is on turning a prescribed title into a knowledge question, selecting two areas of knowledge, and building a counterclaim that is genuinely a counterclaim.

Extended Essay in Physics

Core

A 4,000-word independent investigation. Coaching covers research-question scoping, whether the proposed measurement is actually feasible at home or in a school lab, and the reflections that carry marks of their own.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover almost every Physics request from this neighbourhood. All are delivered live over video; none involve a tutor travelling to an address in Dubai.

Weekly one-to-one Physics

A fixed slot through the school year, usually sixty or ninety minutes. The ninety-minute version earns its length in Physics because a full Paper 2 extended-response question plus feedback does not fit in sixty. Work runs one or two topics ahead of the school's scheme so the student arrives at a lesson already having seen the idea once.

  • Fixed weekly slot from 17:00 onwards, after Al Quoz 4 bus returns
  • Shared whiteboard plus a camera on the student's handwritten working
  • Past-paper questions set between sessions and marked to the published criteria
  • Topic-by-topic record so a parent can see what has actually been covered

Investigation coaching block

A short run of sessions around the scientific investigation. The tutor works on research question, variable choice, whether the measurement can produce enough range to analyse, uncertainty treatment and the evaluation. The student designs, performs and writes the investigation; the tutor teaches, questions and gives feedback on the student's own draft and nothing more.

  • Feasibility check before the student commits to a method
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation
  • Uncertainty and error-propagation taught as a transferable skill
  • Written feedback the student can show their school supervisor

Pre-exam intensive

A compressed block in the weeks before the May session or before school mocks. Sessions are built around timed sections rather than topics: a Paper 1A multiple-choice set under the clock, a Paper 1B data question, then the marking conversation. Most of the gain here is in timing and command-term reading rather than new content.

  • Timed Paper 1A sets with a review of every wrong option, not just the right answer
  • Paper 1B data and experimental questions treated as their own paper
  • Extended-response structure drilled for Paper 2
  • Two sessions a week available during study leave

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Quoz 4

01

What 'IB physics tutor in Al Quoz 4' actually returns, and what it should

The literal answer: an IB physics tutor in Al Quoz 4 is almost always found online rather than down the road, because DP Physics specialists are thin on the ground in any single Dubai sub-community and Al Quoz 4 is a small residential pocket inside a largely commercial district. Searching by distance filters on the wrong variable. Searching by theme and level filters on the right one.

Type the phrase into Google and most results are area-named blog posts written to catch the query rather than answer it. Several name no school, no syllabus theme and no price. One of the better-ranking pages in this market asks the cost question in its own list of frequently asked questions and then declines to answer it. That is the standard this page is written against, and it is a low one.

What a family in Al Quoz 4 should want from the search is four pieces of information: whether anyone can actually teach the themes their child is stuck on, when a session can realistically start given the school bus, what the market charges so they know whether a quote is sane, and what a tutor is and is not permitted to do with an internal assessment. Those four are answerable, and the rest of this page answers them.

The thing proximity genuinely buys is nothing in this subject. A Physics lesson is a diagram, a graph, a page of algebra and a conversation. All four work over video. What proximity costs is the specialist: once the radius shrinks to twenty minutes of Dubai traffic from Al Quoz 4, the person available is whoever is available, and for Theme D fields that is rarely enough.

02

The DP Physics syllabus your child is sitting, theme by theme

Current DP Physics is organised into five themes rather than a core plus options. Theme A covers space, time and motion: kinematics, forces, work and energy, momentum, and at Higher Level the rotational and relativistic extensions. Theme B is the particulate nature of matter, which carries thermal physics, the gas laws, current electricity and the circuit work students usually meet first. Theme C is wave behaviour, from simple harmonic motion through superposition, standing waves and the Doppler effect.

Theme D is fields, and it is where Higher Level candidates most often stall. Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields are taught as one idea expressed three ways, and the syllabus expects a student to move between them fluently. The difficulty is rarely the equations. It is that a question about gravitational potential and a question about electric potential look different on the page and are the same physics underneath, and a student who memorised them separately has twice the work and half the confidence.

Theme E is nuclear and quantum physics: radioactive decay, binding energy, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect and at Higher Level matter waves and the quantum model. It arrives late in the course, often in the same term as the investigation deadline, and it is routinely the theme with the weakest school coverage simply because the calendar ran out. For an Al Quoz 4 student, Theme E support in the second term of Year 13 is one of the highest-value interventions available.

Running underneath all five themes are the tools: experimental technique, technology and mathematics. These are not a separate unit to revise. They are what Paper 1B tests directly and what the investigation is marked on, and a student who can state Theme C perfectly while being unable to draw a line of best fit with an uncertainty estimate will lose marks in both places.

03

Where Al Quoz 4 students actually lose Physics marks

  • Theme D potential questions failed because gravitational and electric cases were memorised separately
  • Uncertainty quoted to more significant figures than the measurement supports
  • Graph answers that read values off the axes instead of taking a gradient
  • Theme E decay questions attempted without logarithms available
  • Extended responses that never state the physical principle before the algebra

Mark loss in DP Physics is diagnosable, and it falls into four buckets that need four different responses. The first is physics: the student does not know the content. This is the easiest to fix and the least common in the students who come through this page, because a family paying for tuition has usually already noticed their child works hard.

The second is mathematics. A Theme C question on standing waves is solvable by a student who is comfortable with wavelength relationships and unsolvable by one who stalls on rearranging to find the unknown. In practice a meaningful share of Physics mark loss at Standard Level is arithmetic and algebra wearing a physics costume. The tutoring response is to fix the mathematics inside the physics question rather than sending the student off to do unrelated algebra drills.

The third is command terms, and this is the one schools flag least often. State, describe, explain, outline, deduce, discuss and determine each require a different shape of answer. 'Explain' wants a causal chain. 'Describe' wants the observation without the mechanism. A student who writes a beautiful explanation where the question asked for a description has done more work than required and scored less than they could. Drilling this takes a fortnight and is often worth a grade band.

The fourth is timing. Paper 1B runs slower per mark than Paper 1A because every question requires reading a table or a graph before any physics happens. Students who treat the whole paper as one undifferentiated clock routinely leave section B half finished. Splitting the paper mentally into two papers with two budgets is a technique, not a talent, and it is taught in a single session.

04

The scientific investigation: 24 marks, four criteria, one report

The internal assessment in DP Physics is a single scientific investigation worth 20% of the final grade at both levels. It is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report runs to a maximum of 3,000 words. That structure matters more than most students realise, because six marks for evaluation means the paragraph a student writes last, usually at midnight, carries the same weight as the whole experimental design.

The most common failure is upstream of the writing. A student picks a research question that sounds interesting and produces three data points clustered in a narrow range. No amount of good writing rescues an investigation that cannot generate enough variation to analyse. A feasibility conversation before the method is fixed is the highest-value hour a Physics tutor spends, and it is the hour schools have least time for because a supervisor is managing a whole cohort.

The second common failure is treating data analysis as a graph. The criterion wants processing that is appropriate to the data, uncertainty carried through the processing, and a graph that shows the relationship being claimed rather than a scatter with a line forced through it. Students who learned to propagate uncertainty for Paper 1B tend to score well here; students who met uncertainty only as a rule to quote tend not to.

The boundary matters and it is firm. A tutor may teach experimental design, question whether a method will work, explain uncertainty, review a draft the student has written and give feedback on it. A tutor may not write, draft, restructure or produce the investigation, or any part of an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. The work must be the student's own, and the IB treats breaches of that as malpractice with consequences that fall on the student.

What Physics tuition costs around Al Quoz 4, and what moves the number

Start with the monthly figure, because that is the number a household budget actually sees. One sixty-minute Physics session a week lands somewhere between roughly AED 600 and AED 1,200 a month on mid-market rates, according to Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost estimates, and between roughly AED 1,000 and over AED 2,000 a month for specialist exam-year support. Two sessions a week in the final term doubles that. Published monthly packages in this market include online bundles around AED 799 a month for eight sessions and in-home bundles around AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour visits.

Hourly, the market splits into clear tiers. Budget online tuition from university-student tutors runs around AED 45 to AED 150 per hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to AED 52. A qualified subject tutor online sits around AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists run roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. Premium named or examiner-led tutors reach AED 500 to AED 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

The in-home tier is its own band: roughly AED 180 to AED 350 on Bestimate's figures and AED 200 to AED 500 for independent home tutors. The premium over an equivalent online rate is not a quality premium. It is travel. For a tutor crossing from one side of Dubai to Al Quoz 4 in the late afternoon, an hour of teaching can cost ninety minutes of driving, and that is priced in whether or not anyone itemises it.

Three things actually move a Physics quote: level, specificity and urgency. Higher Level costs more than Standard Level because the tutor pool is smaller. Investigation coaching costs more than topic teaching for the same reason. And a request made six weeks before the May session costs more than the same request made in September, because availability in the exam run-up is the genuinely scarce thing. None of these figures are IB Gram prices — our matching starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about what the student actually needs.

Online against a tutor at the door: the Al Quoz 4 arithmetic

This page targets a search phrase that includes the idea of a tutor arriving in person, so the comparison deserves a straight answer rather than a dodge. In-home Physics tuition in Dubai is a real and legitimate market. It costs more per hour than the online equivalent, the tutor pool is restricted to people who can reach your address, and scheduling is hostage to traffic. For a family in Al Quoz 4, the practical consequence is that a 17:00 session needs a tutor who left wherever they were at 16:00.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. That service exists only in India. Every UAE lesson is delivered live online, one-to-one, and the reason is not cost-cutting. It is that restricting the tutor pool by driving distance is the single biggest determinant of whether a DP Physics HL student gets someone who knows Theme D or someone who is reading ahead of them.

There is one genuine argument for in-person tuition in a practical science, which is apparatus. A tutor at a table cannot provide a lab either, and the DP investigation is normally carried out at school or with equipment the student can access. What a tutor contributes to the practical side is design, uncertainty treatment and analysis, all of which are screen-friendly. A shared spreadsheet with the student's raw data is a better teaching surface than a printout on a dining table.

The arithmetic for Al Quoz 4 specifically: online removes the travel premium from the hourly rate, removes the traffic risk from the schedule, and makes a second session in an urgent week possible without a second journey. It removes nothing that a Physics lesson needs. Families who have tried both usually describe the difference as administrative rather than educational.

The exam calendar counted backwards from the May session

Dubai schools running the IB Diploma sit the May session, and a Physics plan that starts from the exam date and works backwards is a different plan from one that starts in September and hopes. The fixed points a family in Al Quoz 4 should put on a wall chart are the school's internal investigation deadline, the school mock window, the final weeks of Theme E teaching and the start of study leave. Confirm each with the school's IB coordinator, because they vary by school and the IB's own published dates should be checked against ibo.org rather than taken from a tutoring page.

Counting backwards, the investigation is the item with the least slack. Most schools set an internal deadline in the first or second term of Year 13, and the data collection has to happen before that, which means the research question has to be settled weeks earlier still. A student who reaches the school deadline with unusable data has no route to recover 20% of the grade. This is why investigation coaching is scheduled in the first term, not the last.

Mocks are the second fixed point and the most useful diagnostic a family will get for free. A mock script tells a tutor whether the problem is content, mathematics, command terms or timing, and it does so with real evidence rather than a parent's impression. Bringing the marked script to a first session is worth more than any amount of describing the problem in advance.

For families whose child sits Cambridge or Pearson qualifications alongside or before the Diploma, the series are different and so are the deadlines. Cambridge International runs June and November series for UAE candidates — the February and March series is offered to India only, so it should not appear in any UAE plan. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers, which is why a resit decision made after results is often already late for the next available window.

KHDA, the school report, and what it tells you about Physics teaching

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and the reports are published. For a family in Al Quoz 4 choosing between schools, or trying to understand why a child's Physics experience differs from a cousin's across the city, these reports are the only public evidence available.

What an overall band does not tell you is anything specific about Physics. A school rated Very Good overall can have a small, thinly staffed Diploma science department, and a school rated Good can have a long-serving Physics teacher whose cohorts do well. The useful part of a report is the subject-level commentary and the section on teaching and assessment, not the headline. Read those and the picture of what your child is actually getting becomes clearer.

Dubai's private sector is large and still growing. KHDA figures for 2024-25 put enrolment at 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37%, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7% of enrolment. That last figure explains the thin Physics specialist market directly: IB is a minority curriculum here, DP Physics HL is a minority choice within it, and the pool of people who teach it well in any one neighbourhood is correspondingly small.

KHDA also confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Useful context when a family is weighing tuition spend: the school bill is flat this year, which for some households is what makes a weekly Physics session affordable. None of this means IB Gram holds any status with KHDA. It does not, and no tutoring platform should imply otherwise.

09

Permits, honesty and the questions worth asking a tutor

  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years
  • No fine amounts are published; treat any quoted figure as unverified
  • A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on the student's own investigation draft
  • A tutor may not write, draft or restructure an investigation, Extended Essay or TOK essay
  • Ask which HL themes a tutor has taught before agreeing a rate

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, which grants it free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any specific figure a parent reads should be treated with suspicion.

There is a related point that matters in Abu Dhabi and is good practice everywhere: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. A parent who is offered 'your child's own teacher, privately' is being offered something the rules do not contemplate.

The questions worth asking any Physics tutor are short. Which themes have you taught at Higher Level? Can you talk me through how you would check whether my child's investigation design will produce usable data? What exactly will you do with a draft, and what will you refuse to do? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition permit? A tutor who answers all four clearly is a different proposition from one who answers with a testimonial.

On our side, the honest version includes what happens when the match is hard. Some Physics requests are narrow — a specific Higher Level theme, an unusual timetable, an investigation three weeks from a deadline. If no specialist is free for the slot a family in Al Quoz 4 needs, we say so and offer the nearest workable alternative rather than filling the slot with a generalist. A free trial lesson exists precisely so that judgement sits with the parent after seeing a tutor teach, not before.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Quoz 4

Students matched through this page live across the central corridor. The notes below are the operational detail that changes how a session is scheduled — not a list of places we happen to have heard of.

Al Quoz 4

Residential sub-community bordering Al Safa, with access via Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. School buses commonly return between 15:00 and 16:15 depending on route, so a 17:00 Physics session is the earliest reliable slot.

Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3

Progressively more industrial moving east. Families here usually attend schools in Al Safa, Al Barsha or Jumeirah, which means a long bus route and a later realistic start time than the map suggests.

Al Safa

Dense in British-curriculum schools, with several IGCSE-to-A-Level pathways. DP Physics students from Al Safa often transferred in from an IGCSE school, so their Paper 1B data skills are usually ahead of their investigation design.

Al Manara

Villa community between Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. Short school runs, which makes a 16:30 start workable for younger MYP students who need science support before DP.

Umm Al Sheif

Coastal villa district immediately west of Al Quoz 4. Families here frequently use the same school buses, so sibling sessions can be stacked back to back on the same evening.

Al Barsha South

Reached via Al Khail Road and home to several continuum schools. MYP-to-DP students from this direction tend to need the mathematics underneath Physics addressed before the physics itself.

Dubai Hills Estate

A newer catchment with its own schools, so bus journeys are short. Evening slots free up earlier here, which is useful during an investigation crunch when a student needs two sessions in one week.

Business Bay

Apartment living with high school-choice variety, so two students on the same street may sit different boards. Each needs their own calendar rather than a shared revision timetable.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Quoz 4

Al Safa, Al Manara and Jumeirah

The closest dense school cluster to Al Quoz 4 and the one most of the neighbourhood's secondary students attend. It mixes IGCSE-to-A-Level schools with full IB continuum schools, which is why two neighbours can be sitting entirely different Physics qualifications in the same year group.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Horizon English School
  • Safa British School
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School
  • GEMS Jumeirah Primary School

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

Reached from Al Quoz 4 along Al Khail Road or Sheikh Zayed Road. Several IB Diploma schools sit here, and their internal investigation deadlines are among the earliest in the city, which shortens the window a Physics tutor has to work in.

  • Dubai American Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • American School of Dubai
  • Dubai College

Umm Suqeim and the coast

A short run west. These schools draw heavily on villa communities around Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara and include IB Diploma provision, so Physics HL cohorts here are small and a student who falls behind has few classmates to compare notes with.

  • Raffles World Academy
  • Kings' School Dubai
  • Al Ittihad Private School Jumeira
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park

Schools are named as local context for families in Al Quoz 4; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Tell us the actual problem

Not 'Physics', but which theme, which paper and what the last mark looked like. A sentence about the mock script is worth more than a paragraph about effort. If the trigger is an investigation deadline, say the date, because that changes which tutor we look for first.

  2. 02

    Send the evidence

A marked mock paper, a topic test or the school's current scheme of work. Al Quoz 4 students attend schools across Al Safa, Al Barsha and Jumeirah, and those schools teach the themes in different orders, so a tutor needs to know where the class actually is.

  3. 03

Meet a Physics specialist on a free trial

A live one-to-one lesson, not a sales call. The tutor teaches something real and the student says afterwards whether it made sense. A trial that produces a clear diagnosis is useful even if the family then chooses a different tutor.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the bus

School buses into Al Quoz 4 typically return between 15:00 and 16:15 depending on route, so sessions are usually set from 17:00. We fix one weekly slot and keep it, because a moving appointment is the most common reason tuition quietly stops.

  5. 05

Review against the calendar, not the clock

Progress is checked against the next fixed point — the investigation deadline, the mocks, the start of study leave — rather than a number of hours served. If the plan needs two sessions a week for a fortnight and then none, that is what we recommend.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specialists, not the nearest available person

Matching is by theme and level. A student stuck on Theme D fields gets someone who has taught it at Higher Level repeatedly, rather than whoever could reach Al Quoz 4 by five o'clock. That is the whole case for online delivery in this subject.

Paper 1B treated as its own paper

Data analysis and experimental technique is the component students most often leave half finished, and the one schools have least time to drill. We teach it separately from topic content, with timed sets and a review of uncertainty handling.

A firm line on assessed work

Tutors teach, question and give feedback on the student's own draft. They do not write or produce an investigation, an Extended Essay or a TOK essay. This is stated to the student in the first session, because the consequences of a breach fall on them.

Prices you can check against the market

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the competitor or source that published it, with the tier it sits in. We would rather a family knew the market range before talking to us than discovered it afterwards.

An honest answer when we cannot help

If no DP Physics specialist is free for the slot a family needs, we say so. Filling a Higher Level request with a generalist costs a term and produces a worse outcome than waiting two weeks for the right tutor.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Quoz 4: your questions answered

Is there an IB Physics tutor actually based in Al Quoz 4?+

Almost certainly not a Diploma Physics specialist, and that is the useful answer rather than a discouraging one. Al Quoz 4 is a small residential pocket inside a mainly commercial district, and DP Physics is a minority subject within a minority curriculum in Dubai. Filtering tutors by driving distance from this neighbourhood leaves a handful of people, most of whom teach general science. IB Gram matches on the themes your child is struggling with instead and teaches live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time. For a subject built on diagrams, graphs and algebra, nothing is lost on a screen.

Does IB Gram send a Physics tutor to our villa in Al Quoz 4?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Every lesson for an Al Quoz 4 family is delivered live over video, one-to-one, with a shared whiteboard and a camera on the student's handwritten working. The reason is deliberate. Restricting the tutor pool to people who can drive to your address by five o'clock is the single biggest cause of a Higher Level student ending up with a tutor who does not know Theme D. Online removes that constraint and the travel premium with it.

Which Physics themes cause the most trouble at Higher Level?+

Theme D fields and Theme E nuclear and quantum physics, for different reasons. Theme D stalls students who learned gravitational, electric and magnetic fields as three separate sets of equations instead of one idea in three forms, so every question feels new. Theme E tends to arrive late in the course, often alongside the investigation deadline, and is the theme schools most often teach in a rush. Decay questions also need confident logarithms, which catches students taking Applications and Interpretation mathematics. Both are tractable with targeted work rather than a general revision course.

How many Physics marks does the internal investigation carry?+

The scientific investigation is worth 20% of the final Physics grade at both Standard and Higher Level, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report has a 3,000-word maximum. The weighting surprises families who assume coursework is a minor component. In practice it means one report, written largely in one term of Year 13, carries more weight than any single examination paper section, which is why feasibility work on the research question is time well spent.

Can a tutor help write my child's Physics investigation?+

No, and any tutor who offers to is putting your child at risk. A tutor may teach experimental design, question whether a proposed method will generate usable data, explain uncertainty and error propagation, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write, draft, restructure or produce the report, or any part of an Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay. IB academic-honesty rules treat that as malpractice, and the consequences land on the candidate rather than on the tutor.

What is a fair hourly rate for DP Physics tuition in Dubai?+

Published rates in this market fall into tiers. Budget online tuition from university-student tutors runs roughly AED 45 to AED 150 per hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 and Tutopiya from around AED 33. Qualified subject tutors online sit around AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650 for premium provision. Higher Level Physics and investigation coaching sit in the specialist band because the tutor pool is small.

Why does in-home Physics tuition cost more per hour here?+

Travel, almost entirely. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one tutoring in Dubai at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 per hour, and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500, against AED 150 to AED 300 for an equivalent qualified tutor online. For a tutor reaching Al Quoz 4 in the late afternoon, an hour of teaching can consume ninety minutes of driving, and that time is priced into the rate whether or not it appears on the invoice. The premium buys a journey, not better physics teaching.

When can a session realistically start on a school night?+

Seventeen hundred is the earliest reliable slot for most Al Quoz 4 households. School buses serving this area typically return between 15:00 and 16:15 depending on route, and students attending schools in Al Barsha, Al Safa or Jumeirah are on the longer routes. A session booked for 16:30 looks fine on paper and collapses the first week there is traffic on Al Khail Road. Online delivery helps here: there is no second journey to absorb, so the slot that works stays the slot that works.

Does my child need Analysis and Approaches to take Physics HL?+

Not formally, but the mathematical load differs noticeably. Physics HL draws on trigonometric functions for wave behaviour, logarithms for radioactive decay and calculus intuition for rates of change in Theme A. Students taking Applications and Interpretation can and do succeed, but they carry more mathematical work inside the Physics lessons themselves, and a tutoring plan has to allow for it. For engineering applications, check the specific university course page rather than general advice, since institutions differ on which mathematics route they accept.

Should I check whether a Physics tutor holds the MoHRE tuition permit?+

Yes to the permit and no to the cost. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is administered through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so distrust any specific amount you see quoted.

My child has six weeks before the Physics exams. Is it worth starting?+

Yes, with a changed plan. Six weeks is too short to reteach five themes and long enough to make a real difference to how marks are collected. The work becomes component-led rather than topic-led: timed Paper 1A sets with every wrong option reviewed, Paper 1B data questions treated as a separate paper with their own clock, and extended-response structure drilled for Paper 2. Command-term precision alone often moves a borderline script. What six weeks cannot fix is an unusable investigation, which is why that piece is scheduled much earlier.

How do KHDA inspection reports help me judge Physics teaching?+

Read past the headline band. KHDA inspects Dubai's private schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak and publishes the reports, but an overall rating says nothing specific about a Diploma science department. The useful sections are the subject-level commentary and the notes on teaching and assessment. A school rated Very Good overall can run a thinly staffed DP Physics cohort, and a school rated Good can have a strong long-serving Physics teacher. The detail is where the answer sits, and it is public.

Can one tutor cover both Physics and Mathematics for my child?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking for when the mark loss in Physics is mathematical rather than conceptual. A tutor comfortable with both can fix algebraic rearrangement inside a Theme C question instead of sending the student off to practise unrelated exercises. Where the two subjects both need substantial independent work — Higher Level Physics plus an Analysis and Approaches exploration, for instance — two specialists usually serve better. We will say which applies after a trial lesson rather than before.

What should we bring to the first Physics session?+

A marked mock or topic test, the school's current scheme of work or topic list, and the date of the investigation deadline if one is set. The marked script is the valuable item, because it shows whether marks went on physics, mathematics, command-term reading or timing, and those four need four different plans. Describing the problem in advance is far less useful than letting a tutor read three pages of real working. Bring the investigation draft too, if one exists, in whatever state it is in.

Which exam series do UAE students sit for Cambridge qualifications?+

June and November. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only, so it should not appear in a UAE plan at all. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones and must use the timetable for its own zone. Check the live official timetable on the board's site rather than relying on dates restated elsewhere.

Start with a diagnosis, not a package

If your child is sitting DP Physics and the marks are not matching the effort, the first useful step is finding out which of four things is costing them: physics, mathematics, command terms or timing. A free trial lesson with a Physics specialist answers that, and it answers it with your child's own marked script rather than a general assessment. From there a plan is short and specific — Theme D rebuilt as one idea, Paper 1B drilled separately, an investigation design checked before data collection starts. Tell us the theme, the paper and the deadline, and we will tell you honestly whether we have the right person free for an Al Quoz 4 timetable.
