IGCSE Maths Tutor in Villanova

What an IGCSE maths tutor in Villanova costs depends far less on the hourly rate than on how many hours the job needs — and that is decided by the tier your child sits, the board, and whether anybody has read a marked paper. This page prices the whole thing in AED and shows where Dubailand families overspend. IB Gram teaches one-to-one, live online.

IB & IGCSE in Villanova

The bill is set by the hours, not by the rate

Families in Villanova — the townhouse clusters off Al Qudra Road in Dubailand — usually start the search for an IGCSE maths tutor by comparing hourly rates. That is the wrong variable to optimise. Published Dubai rates for maths run from AED 33 at the budget online end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor, but the difference between a AED 4,000 year and a AED 12,000 year is almost never the rate. It is the number of sessions.

The number of sessions is decided by three things, and a parent can influence all of them. First, how early you start: a problem addressed in Year 9 or early Year 10 takes a fraction of the hours it takes in February of Year 11. Second, whether anybody has read a marked paper, because hours aimed at a diagnosed gap do several times the work of hours spent re-teaching content the student already has. Third, the tier, which sets the grade ceiling and therefore what the hours are even for.

Maths is the most tutored subject in this market, which means the widest spread of both prices and competence. It also means it is the subject where the default purchase — a standing weekly session through the school year, bought in September without a diagnosis — is most common and least efficient. At the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, that default costs roughly AED 4,500 to 9,000 for the year in one subject.

On the 'home tutor' question, which arrives in most enquiries from this community: IB Gram does not send tutors to UAE addresses. Home visits are a service we offer only in India, and teaching for Villanova is live, one-to-one and online. That removes the in-home travel premium, which in this belt sits at the top of the AED 50 to 150 per hour range because the drive out to Al Qudra Road is long. Independent in-home maths tutors do work here at AED 180 to 500 if presence in the room is what your child needs.

Everything priced below is attributed to whoever published it, whether that is a competitor's own page or Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. None of it is IB Gram's price list; we quote per student after the free trial lesson, once somebody has looked at the work and can say how many sessions this realistically takes.

One piece of context for the budget. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package. Fees are the fixed line this year. Tutoring is the line a family actually controls, which is a reason to plan it rather than react to a report card.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The cost of IGCSE maths support is almost entirely a function of when you start. These are the three windows and what each typically consumes.

Y9Ages 13-14

Year 9 — the cheap window

Six to ten sessions in Year 9, costing roughly AED 1,000 to 3,000 at mid bands, commonly removes the need for a year of Year 11 tuition. The work is unglamorous: rearranging equations, fractions and indices, negative numbers handled without hesitation. A student fluent in those finds the IGCSE course ordinary; a student who is not will fight it for two years.

Year 9 in Dubai is also when option choices are set, including whether Additional Maths is realistic and whether triple science is on. Those decisions change the maths workload and the post-16 routes available, so two sessions spent on the decision can be worth more than a term spent on content.

Y10Ages 14-15

Year 10 — steady spend

Most families who spend here buy a weekly slot across the year: roughly thirty sessions, AED 4,500 to 9,000 at the qualified-tutor band. What makes that worth paying is topic-by-topic past-paper work as each topic is taught, so gaps appear in Year 10 rather than in Year 11 revision. What makes it a waste is a session spent reviewing the week's homework without a mark scheme in sight.

Some Dubai schools enter students for maths in the June series at the end of Year 10. If yours does, the entry deadline sits months earlier and the whole budget shifts forward a year. Get the entry list from the exam office in writing rather than assuming the standard two-year pattern.

Y11Ages 15-16

Year 11 — the expensive window

Where most of the money in this market is spent and where it buys the least, because purchases happen under time pressure. A mock-driven block of six to twelve sessions costs roughly AED 1,000 to 4,000 and moves more marks than a year of general weekly tuition. A February start with no diagnosis costs more and delivers less, which is the pattern worth avoiding.

Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. The second series is a resit route, which means a realistic Year 11 budget allows for one subject being sat twice — a second entry fee and possibly a further short block of hours.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

This page is about maths, so these are the topics within it, with the cost logic attached: which ones repay tutoring quickly and which absorb hours without moving a grade.

Algebraic manipulation

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

The highest-return topic in the subject because everything else depends on it. Rearranging, expanding, factorising and simplifying fractions. A student fluent here gains marks in geometry, trigonometry and graph questions without those topics being taught again. Usually three to five sessions of real work.

Algebraic fractions and indices

Extended and Higher

A reliable Extended-tier stumbling block and a frequent source of lost method marks. Students either know the rules or guess, and the guessing is visible within one question. Cheap to fix and immediately worth marks on the harder papers.

Transformations of graphs

Extended and Higher

The most commonly mis-taught topic in this market. Students memorise shift rules instead of understanding operations on a function's input and output, then fail as soon as two transformations combine. Teaching it properly takes two sessions and prevents a recurring loss.

Trigonometry, including non-right-angled

Extended and Higher

Sine and cosine rules, area of a triangle, bearings and 3D problems. Marks go missing on setup rather than on the formula, which means diagram discipline recovers most of them. Bearings questions in particular reward a drawn north line every time.

Probability and tree diagrams

All tiers

Conditional probability and without-replacement problems produce predictable errors that are fixable in one or two sessions. A good-value topic to target because the questions are structurally similar year to year and the technique transfers completely.

Statistics and data handling

All tiers

Cumulative frequency, box plots, histograms with unequal class widths, and averages from grouped data. Histogram frequency density is the classic single-topic gap that costs a specific set of marks on one question and nothing else, which makes it an efficient target.

Vectors and geometry proof

Extended and Higher

Column vectors, vector paths and the geometric reasoning questions on the harder papers. Absorbs hours for a modest number of marks, so for a student short of time this is lower priority than algebra or trigonometry unless a target grade needs the top band.

Number, ratio and percentages

Core and Foundation especially

Compound interest, reverse percentages, ratio sharing and standard form. For a Core or Foundation student these topics carry a large share of the paper, which makes them the right first target. For a confident Extended student they are already secure and tutoring here wastes money.

Calculator technique and non-calculator fluency

Board-dependent

Board structures differ on this and it matters: Cambridge 0580 includes a non-calculator written paper alongside a calculator paper, while Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator throughout. Confirm the current structure for your child's entry, then practise the matching habit — hand fluency or calculator discipline.

Exam technique and method marks

All tiers

Not a topic but the cheapest marks available. Showing working, answering the command word, keeping units and not rounding mid-calculation. Marking three papers strictly to the mark scheme routinely recovers more marks than three topics taught, at a fraction of the hours.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy IGCSE maths support, in ascending order of cost per student. All are delivered live online with no travel for either side.

Pair session on the same specification

Two students on the same board and tier sharing a slot, which splits the cost materially. Because nothing travels, a Villanova and a Serena student can share without either household driving. It works for content and exam technique and stops working the moment the two are on different boards, which in this belt is common enough to verify before arranging.

  • Lowest cost per student of the one-to-one formats
  • Same board, same tier, similar starting point required
  • Two to four students so everyone still answers questions
  • No journey for either family

Mock-driven block

Six to twelve sessions built entirely from a marked mock script, costing roughly AED 1,000 to 4,000 at mid and specialist bands. Every lost mark is categorised as knowledge, method or reading, then addressed in order of volume. For most Year 11 maths cases this is the best value purchase available, because it spends hours on evidence rather than on assumption.

  • Starts from the marked paper, not a placement test
  • Defined session count and a stated finish date
  • Method and reading errors attacked first — they close fastest
  • Repeatable before the November series if needed

Weekly one-to-one across the year

The most expensive format and the right one when a student is genuinely behind rather than inefficient: roughly thirty sessions, AED 4,500 to 9,000 at the qualified-tutor band. What makes it worth the money is a termly review against marked work, asking plainly whether the slot still earns its place. Without that review it becomes a standing order.

  • Predictable monthly cost and a fixed slot
  • Reviewed each term against marked papers
  • Topic-by-topic past-paper work as topics are taught
  • Ends when the gap closes, not when the year does

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Villanova

01

What actually decides the size of the bill

Two Villanova families can hire the same tutor at the same rate and spend AED 3,000 and AED 11,000 respectively. The difference is hours, and hours are decided before the tutor is chosen. The table below sets out the honest estimates by starting point, which is the information no tutoring page publishes because it tends to recommend buying less.

The pattern in it is consistent. Early and diagnosed is cheap. Late and undiagnosed is expensive. A student with a marked mock showing method errors needs six to twelve sessions. The same student six months later, with the same errors now habitual and a shorter runway, needs more hours to achieve less. The cost of delay in maths is measured in sessions rather than in rates.

The second pattern is about what the hours are spent on. Re-teaching content a student already knows feels productive to everyone in the room and changes nothing on a paper. Marking a paper strictly, categorising the losses and drilling the specific habit that produced them feels slower and moves grades. A parent can tell which is happening by asking what the session's homework was: a page of similar questions is the first; three questions and a rule about showing working is the second.

Our own practice follows from this. The free trial lesson exists to produce an hours estimate from the work rather than a rate quoted from a price list. Sometimes that estimate is smaller than the family expected. Occasionally it is that no tutoring is needed and the student should be marking their own papers against the mark scheme, which costs nothing.

Tier sets the ceiling, and therefore the budget

Before any money is spent, confirm the tier in writing. It decides the highest grade available to your child, which decides what tutoring can and cannot achieve, which decides how much of it is worth buying. Families regularly discover the tier after months of sessions aimed at a grade the entry did not permit.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 is tiered Core and Extended, with Core graded from C to G and Extended from A* to E; the 0980 variant reports on the 9 to 1 scale with the Core tier capped. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A, 4MA1, is tiered Foundation and Higher, with Foundation reporting 5 to 1 and Higher 9 to 4. Structures and grading can be revised between specification versions, so confirm against the board's current documents and your child's entry.

The budget consequence is direct. A Core or Foundation student aiming for the top of their tier needs accuracy and exam technique, which is a small number of well-marked hours. A student who should move tier needs a content programme and a conversation with the school about the entry, which is a larger commitment and has a deadline attached. Spending specialist money on a Core student's top-band topics is a waste, because those topics are not on their paper.

The question a tutor can genuinely help with is whether the current performance is a tier problem or a preparation problem. A student losing marks on method and reading rather than on content is usually in the right tier with the wrong habits, and the cheap fix applies. One losing marks because whole topics are missing is a different case, and the school holds the assessment record that should decide it.

Board structures differ, and buying the wrong practice is pure waste

The cheapest avoidable error in IGCSE maths tutoring is practising the wrong board's papers. The content overlaps enough that nobody notices for weeks, and the format difference shows up as a timing problem in the real exam, which then gets misdiagnosed as weak knowledge and treated with more hours.

The structures to confirm are the paper count, the calculator rules and the formula provision. Cambridge 0580 includes a non-calculator written paper alongside a calculator paper, so hand fluency is directly examined. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, which shifts the examined habit towards efficient and well-documented calculator use. Formula provision also differs, and a student who has learned to expect a formula on the page loses marks when it is not there.

That difference changes what the sessions are for. A Cambridge student needs regular non-calculator work: arithmetic with fractions, surds where relevant, and mental estimation. A Pearson student needs calculator discipline: showing the input, sketching what the display showed, and not trusting a window that hides a root. Buying the wrong one of those two is buying hours that do not touch the examined skill.

Confirm all of it against the board's current specification for your child's entry year, because paper structures are revised between versions. Those documents are free to read on the board's own site and are the thing any competent tutor works from. Nobody should be selling them to you as a resource pack.

04

Which maths topics repay tutoring, and which absorb it

  • Best value: exam technique and method marks, then algebraic manipulation
  • For Core and Foundation: number, ratio and percentages carry the paper
  • Lowest value when short of time: vectors and proof at the top tier
  • Ask weekly which lost marks the session was aimed at

Not all topics cost the same to fix or return the same number of marks, and a family paying by the hour should know the difference. This is the ranking we would use when time or money is limited.

Highest return, in order: exam technique and method marks; algebraic manipulation; the specific tier-relevant topics that carry the most paper marks. Exam technique comes first because it is not a topic at all — it is showing working, answering the command word, keeping units and not rounding mid-calculation. Three papers marked strictly to the mark scheme routinely recover more marks than three topics taught, and they take a third of the time.

Algebra comes next because everything depends on it. A student fluent in rearranging and factorising gains marks in geometry, trigonometry and graph work without those being taught again. For Core and Foundation students, number, ratio and percentages carry a large share of the paper and deserve the same priority that algebra gets at the higher tier.

Lowest return when time is short: vectors and geometric proof at the top tier, which absorb hours for a modest mark allocation, and any topic the student has already secured. The commonest waste we see in this belt is a weekly session spent reviewing homework the student got right, which is comfortable for everybody and changes nothing. If you are paying by the hour, ask each week which specific lost marks the session was aimed at.

05

Per-hour bands for maths, and what each one really delivers

Maths has the widest price spread of any subject in this market because it has the most sellers. Knowing what each band buys prevents the two classic errors: paying specialist rates for supervision, and paying supervision rates for a diagnosis that will never arrive.

At AED 33 to 65 — Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 — you are buying routine: someone to sit with a student and keep them working through exercises. For a Year 8 who will not start unprompted, that is appropriate and good value. It will not identify why a Year 11 is losing method marks on the harder paper.

At AED 150 to 300 you are buying a trained subject teacher who works from the specification; Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150. This is the right band for most IGCSE maths work and where the hours in the first table are priced. Above it, AED 200 to 450 or more buys board-specific depth and mark-scheme-accurate marking, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 table showing AED 200 to 450+. The top band, AED 500 to 650 and above with BartyED at AED 650, buys scarcity.

In-home visits run AED 180 to 500 including travel, per Bestimate at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500. For maths specifically the premium buys less than in other subjects, because the work happens on a visible page and a shared screen reproduces that almost perfectly — with the useful addition that both people keep the annotated file.

What a marked mock tells you before you spend anything

  • Label every lost mark: knowledge, method, or reading the question
  • Method and reading errors close fastest and are usually the larger share
  • Knowing the split converts a vague year into a defined block
  • No mock yet? Spend two sessions generating the evidence, not discussing it

The single most valuable document in this process is free, and your child's school already produced it. A marked mock paper, read properly, tells you how many hours to buy and what they should be spent on. Most families read the total and file it.

Read it instead by category. Go through every lost mark and label it: knowledge, meaning the student did not know the content; method, meaning they knew it and lost process marks through unshown working, rounding or notation; or reading, meaning they answered a different question from the one asked. Add up the three categories. The proportions are usually a surprise.

In most marked papers we see from this belt, method and reading together account for a substantial share of the loss. That matters financially because those two categories close fastest — a handful of sessions with strict marking and a rule about showing working — while knowledge gaps need teaching time. A family that knows its split can buy six sessions with confidence instead of thirty with hope.

If there is no mock yet, the first two sessions of any arrangement should generate the equivalent evidence from timed past-paper work rather than from a conversation about what the student finds hard. Students are poor witnesses to their own errors, not because they are careless but because the errors are invisible from the inside. The paper is not. Keep the categorised list somewhere you can find it, because it is also the document that tells you when to stop paying: when the method and reading columns have emptied and only a short knowledge list remains, the expensive part of the job is done.

07

Additional Maths, and whether it is worth paying for

  • Useful if the student is heading to A Level Maths or IB AA at Higher Level
  • Questionable if maths stops at sixteen or the main course is still a struggle
  • Spending on a bridging block often beats more support for a secure course
  • Remember the MoE five-subject count excludes Arabic and Islamic Education

A recurring Villanova question, usually from a parent of a strong Year 10: should we add Additional Maths, and should we buy tutoring for it? The honest answer is that it depends on the post-16 plan, and that it is one of the few places where extra tuition is often genuinely the wrong purchase.

Additional Maths exists as a bridge for students who will take maths further — a preparation for A Level Mathematics or for the algebraic demand of IB Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. For a student heading in that direction it is useful and the content is not wasted. For a student who will take Applications and Interpretation, or who will not take maths beyond sixteen, it is an extra examined subject competing for the same evenings as the five that matter more.

The budget logic follows. If your child is heading to AA HL or A Level Mathematics and is comfortable with the main IGCSE course, the money is better spent on Additional Maths or on a bridging block than on more support for a course they already handle. If your child is working hard to secure a grade in the main course, adding another maths qualification and tutoring for it is spending in two directions at once.

There is also the Ministry of Education equivalency angle worth noting. For the British track, five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. An additional maths qualification can help that arithmetic, but a weaker grade in a core subject hurts it, so the sequencing question is worth asking before the subject is added.

08

Entry deadlines, resits and the costs that arrive late

Tutoring is the planned cost. Exam administration is the one that surprises families, and the calendar drives it. For a Villanova household, getting the series right is a budget decision as much as an academic one.

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series. The February/March series is offered to India only and does not apply to a UAE candidate, so advice built around a February window belongs to another country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for the zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask the exam officer which zone applies.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Checkable reference points: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables for later series which may be revised, so always open the live official timetable rather than relying on a restated date.

The financial consequence is that a resit is a second entry fee plus, usually, a further block of hours and a term of divided attention while the next course starts. A Year 11 budget allowing for one subject re-sat in the second series is realistic. One that assumes everything lands first time is optimistic, and the families who get caught out are the ones who had spent their whole tutoring budget by May.

Where we tutor

Villanova and where price comparisons come from

Quotes in this belt vary mostly by travel distance and by whether the tutor knows the board. These are the neighbouring communities whose families compare notes with Villanova households.

Villanova

Amaranta, Casa Dora, La Rosa and Tulipa, off Al Qudra Road. Far enough out that any in-home maths quote carries a real travel component, which is why Villanova families are routinely quoted above the published mid-market band for the same tutor.

Mudon

Adjacent, same travel band. Households here often need two boards covered because siblings attend different schools, which quietly doubles the cost of a single-tutor arrangement unless the specifications match.

Serena

Almost identical intake and travel band, and the most useful community to compare quotes with. Pair sessions between Serena and Villanova students on the same board and tier split the cost without either family travelling.

Arabian Ranches 3

Closer in for most visiting tutors, so in-home quotes here sit roughly AED 30 to 50 per hour below Villanova's for the same person. Worth knowing before you assume a neighbour negotiated better.

Town Square

Apartment-dense with a large Year 10 and 11 cohort, so group maths classes at nearby centres are a common purchase. The per-student economics look attractive until the drive and the waiting time are counted.

Motor City and Dubai Sports City

Where the belt's tuition centres are. The realistic comparison point for group pricing, with monthly packages advertised in this market from around AED 799 for eight sessions.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the board, tier and a marked paper

Three things make the first exchange useful: the syllabus code, the tier, and a photograph of the most recent marked paper. With those we can estimate the hours before anyone discusses a rate, which is the right order. Without them the first two sessions go on finding out what the paper already shows.

  2. 02

    Hours estimated, then priced

We quote after the free trial lesson because the rate depends on the level of work and the number of sessions depends on the evidence. A single headline figure quoted before anyone has seen a marked paper is a figure set for the seller's convenience rather than the student's need.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with the matched tutor

A real lesson with the person who would continue, no card required. It produces a diagnosis and an hours estimate: which losses are knowledge, which are method, which are reading the question. Sometimes the estimate is smaller than you came expecting, and occasionally it is that no tutoring is needed.

  4. 04

A plan with a session count and a finish date

You get the topics, the order, the number of sessions and the date it ends, set against the school's own deadlines and the board entry date. A plan without a finish date is a subscription. Eight sessions that close a gap beat thirty that keep a slot warm.

The size of an IGCSE maths bill is set by the number of sessions, not the hourly figure, so the free trial lesson produces an hours estimate from marked work. That occasionally means recommending fewer sessions than a family arrived expecting to buy, which is the point of estimating honestly.

No travel, so no travel premium

Nobody drives to Al Qudra Road and no parent drives to Motor City. That removes the AED 50 to 150 hourly premium a visiting tutor charges in this belt and the two hours of household time a centre visit consumes. In maths the online format gives up almost nothing.

Board and tier confirmed first

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ on tiering and calculator rules, so practice on the wrong board's papers is wasted money that nobody notices for weeks. We confirm the specification and tier before the first session rather than after a term of it.

Marked to the mark scheme

Work is marked the way the examiner marks it, with method marks, notation and rounding treated seriously rather than ticked as broadly right. That is where the cheapest recoverable marks are, and it is why three strictly marked papers often beat three topics taught.

Every figure sourced

Each AED band on this page names who published it and is presented as the market rather than our price. We publish no statistic without a source, no self-awarded rating, and nothing sold that should not be — no promises about final grades and no resold board material.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Villanova: your questions answered

What does IGCSE maths tutoring cost for a Villanova family over a year?+

At the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300 an hour, a weekly slot across the school year is roughly thirty sessions and AED 4,500 to 9,000. A mock-driven block of six to twelve sessions is AED 900 to 3,600 and for many Year 11 students does more. In-home visits to this community run AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel. Those are published market figures; our own rate is quoted after the free trial, once the hours estimate exists.

How many maths sessions does my child actually need?+

It depends on the starting point far more than on the tutor. A Year 9 with shaky algebra typically needs six to ten sessions. A Year 10 with one diagnosed topic gap needs four to eight. A Year 11 working from a marked mock needs six to twelve. A student genuinely behind on content needs twenty to thirty across a year. The expensive case is a February start with no diagnosis, where hours get bought under pressure and there is no time left for the cheap fixes.

Why does the tier matter before I spend money on maths tutoring?+

Because it sets the highest grade available, which decides what the hours can achieve. Cambridge 0580 is tiered Core and Extended, with Core graded C to G and Extended A* to E; Pearson 4MA1 is tiered Foundation and Higher, reporting 5 to 1 and 9 to 4. Spending specialist money on top-band topics for a Core student is waste, because those topics are not on their paper. Confirm the tier in writing from the entry statement and check it against the board's current documents.

My Villanova neighbour's child does a different maths paper - why?+

For tutoring, yes. Cambridge 0580 includes a non-calculator written paper alongside a calculator paper, so hand fluency is directly examined. Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers, which shifts the examined habit towards documented, efficient calculator use. Formula provision also differs. Practising the wrong board's past papers is the cheapest avoidable waste in this market: the content looks similar enough that nobody notices for weeks, and the mismatch shows up as a timing problem in the real exam.

Which maths topics give the best return for the money?+

Exam technique first, which is not a topic: showing working, answering the command word, keeping units, not rounding mid-calculation. Three papers marked strictly to the mark scheme routinely recover more marks than three topics taught. Then algebraic manipulation, because geometry, trigonometry and graph work all depend on it. For Core and Foundation students, number, ratio and percentages carry a large share of the paper. Lowest return when time is short: vectors and geometric proof at the top tier.

Can I use my child's mock paper to decide how much tutoring to buy?+

That is exactly what it is for, and it is free. Go through every lost mark and label it knowledge, method, or reading the question, then total the three categories. In most papers we see from this belt, method and reading together are a large share, and those close fastest — a handful of sessions with strict marking and a rule about showing working. Knowledge gaps need teaching time. Knowing your split turns a vague year of sessions into a defined block.

Is a group maths class at a Motor City centre cheaper overall?+

Per hour, clearly; monthly packages in this market are advertised from around AED 799 for eight sessions. Overall, count the drive: twenty-five to forty minutes each way from Villanova plus waiting is around two hours of household time per session. A group also delivers one pace to everyone, which suits a student who is broadly on track and needs more practice, and cannot address an individual diagnosed gap. If you can name the problem in one sentence, a short one-to-one block is usually cheaper to the finish line.

Will a maths tutor come to our house in Villanova?+

Not one of ours. IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service we offer only in India, so no tutor will arrive at a Dubailand address. Independent in-home maths tutors work in this belt at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, and Villanova sits at the top of that range because the drive is long. For maths the online format gives up unusually little, since the whole lesson is a shared working surface that both people can write on and keep.

Should we add Additional Maths, and pay for tutoring in it?+

Only if your child is heading towards A Level Mathematics or IB Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level and is already comfortable with the main IGCSE course. In that case the content is not wasted and the money is better spent there than on more support for a course they already handle. If maths stops at sixteen, or the main course is still a struggle, adding a second maths qualification plus tutoring for it is spending in two directions at once.

What if we run out of budget before the June series?+

Then spend what is left on marking rather than teaching. The cheapest effective arrangement for a student with some content knowledge is two or three sessions in which a timed past paper is marked strictly to the mark scheme and the losses categorised, with the student doing the papers alone between sessions. That is where most recoverable marks are. It also helps to keep a small reserve: a resit in the November series means a second entry fee, which no tutoring quote includes.

How much does a maths resit cost after a disappointing June result?+

A second entry fee, quoted by the exam centre rather than by any tutor, plus whatever further hours you decide on — typically eight to fifteen sessions for a focused resit, since the diagnosis already exists. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates and Pearson runs May/June and November, so there is a route each year. Ask the school's exam office for the actual entry figure rather than estimating it, because centre charges vary.

Are maths tutors working with Dubai students required to hold a permit?+

Yes. A MoHRE private tuition work permit is required for individuals providing private tutoring in the UAE, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Because the permit is free, no tutor should be passing on a licensing cost. No fine schedule is published, so treat any amount quoted at you as unverified.

Does the quoted hourly price include VAT and materials?+

Ask, and get it in writing. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than an opinion — so the practical rule is to require clarity from whoever is invoicing you. On materials: nobody should be charging you for Cambridge or Pearson past papers, mark schemes or specifications, which are published by the boards and should be linked rather than resold as a resource pack.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education affect the maths plan in a Dubai school?+

Indirectly, through the timetable. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, with instructional time based on a 40-minute lesson unit and separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs. Those periods are real workload competing with maths revision. Note also that for Ministry of Education British-track equivalency, Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from the five subjects that count, which is worth knowing when option choices are being made.

Price the hours, not the hour

Before you hire an IGCSE maths tutor in Villanova, do two things that cost nothing. Get the entry statement so you know the board and the tier, and go through the last marked paper labelling each lost mark as knowledge, method or reading. Those two documents turn a vague year of weekly sessions into a defined number of hours with a defined target. Send them to us and you will get an honest hours estimate and a rate quoted after the free trial lesson, taught by the tutor who would continue. Teaching is live, one-to-one and online, and nobody drives to Dubailand.
