IB Tutor near me in Al Quoz

An IB tutor near me in Al Quoz is a search that asks a map question when the real problem is a calendar one. Al Quoz families are rarely short of nearby tutors in general; they are short of someone who knows that the Mathematics internal assessment has a page guideline, that criterion D in a science IA carries six marks, and when in the two-year cycle each of those stops being fixable. Lessons run live online, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Quoz

Near me is a map answer to a calendar question

Typing IB tutor near me in Al Quoz produces a list sorted by distance. That is a reasonable way to find a dentist and a poor way to find a Diploma Programme teacher, because distance has no relationship to the thing that decides your child's grade. What decides it is whether the person teaching them knows the assessment architecture of one specific subject, and where in the two-year clock the student currently sits.

Al Quoz makes the point by accident. The district is mostly industrial by land area, with housing concentrated in Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3 between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. A map search centred there returns tuition centres, nurseries and general tutors in large numbers, and almost none of them is a Higher Level Chemistry specialist who can tell you that the internal assessment is worth 20 per cent and that a research question too broad to measure in a school laboratory caps the analysis criterion before the student writes a word.

Meanwhile the clock is running. The Diploma Programme is a two-year structure with most of its decisive moments inside the school rather than in the examination hall: subject and level choices at the end of Year 11, internal assessment topics through DP1, the first Extended Essay reflection, Theory of Knowledge exhibition, internal assessment final drafts across the DP2 terms, the school's mock window, then the May session. Each of those has a point after which it cannot be influenced.

That is why this page is organised as a calendar and a set of reference tables rather than as a description of our service. You will find the two-year clock set out term by term, the word and page limits across DP components in one place, the internal assessment criteria discussed by letter with the marks attached, and the Mathematics Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation decision laid against what universities actually ask for. These are the things families most often discover late.

There is a second reason the map is a poor tool here, and it is about supply rather than quality. A tutor who drives can fit two or three sessions into a weekday evening; a tutor who does not can fit four or five, and can take a later slot for a family that needs one. So the early-evening hours Al Quoz parents want most are exactly the hours the in-home model rations hardest, and the rationing gets worse in the weeks before the May session when every DP2 household in Dubai is asking for the same time.

One premise first, stated plainly because the rest only works if it is honest. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition to Al Quoz homes as live online video sessions, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we offer in India only. The gain from working that way is precisely the one a map search cannot give you, which is selection by subject and level instead of by driving distance.

At a glance

  • The Extended Essay is 4,000 words with a required reflection process
  • Science internal assessments are typically 20 per cent of the subject grade
  • Internal assessment criteria are lettered, and the letters carry different mark totals
  • Subject and level choices at the end of Year 11 constrain university options two years later
  • IB session and results dates are not verified here; confirm them with your school's IB coordinator
  • Al Quoz weekday sessions realistically start between 5pm and 5.30pm
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Quoz children meet the IB at different points, and which point they are at changes what support means. Below, each programme is described by its assessment structure, because that is what a tutor works against.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three Higher Level and three Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subject grades run 1 to 7, giving 42 points, with up to three further points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix for a maximum of 45. Every subject also carries internally assessed work marked by the school and moderated by the IB.

This is where nearly all Al Quoz enquiries sit, and the shape of them is consistent. A student arrives from IGCSE comfortable with content recall, meets Higher Level work that rewards reasoning instead, and loses a term before anyone names the difference. The schools in the central corridor across Al Khail Road all run this programme on their own internal deadlines.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, marked out of eight and converted to a 1 to 7 grade. MYP Year 5 includes the Personal Project, which the student develops independently with a process journal. The criterion language is the part families find hardest, because a fluent piece of work can still sit mid-band if it never addressed what the criterion asked for.

MYP is where the habits that decide DP outcomes are formed, particularly the habit of reading a criterion before writing rather than after. GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail in Al Quoz 2 and several schools in the Al Barsha cluster run it, and their Personal Project deadlines fall in different terms from each other.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-based, with no external examinations, closing with the Exhibition in the final year. Reporting is against learner-profile attributes and approaches to learning rather than subject percentages, which is why PYP reports read so differently from the British curriculum reports many Al Quoz parents grew up with.

Support at this stage is about reading fluency and number sense, not examination technique, because there is no examination. The families who benefit most are those moving from a British or Indian primary into an IB middle school, where the reporting language changes overnight.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

At least two Diploma Programme courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, service learning, personal and professional skills and language development. It is offered by a small number of UAE schools rather than being generally available, and it suits a student who wants IB subject rigour alongside an applied qualification.

An Al Quoz family on the CP route is usually travelling further for school than a Diploma family. The tutoring demand comes from the DP courses inside the programme, which are assessed exactly as they are in the full Diploma, so the reference tables on this page apply to them unchanged.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma subjects Al Quoz families ask for, described by assessment structure. Where a component has a stated limit or weighting, it is named, because that is the information a map search will never give you.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and algebraic fluency. Higher Level adds Paper 3, a longer two-part investigation worth 20 per cent of the grade, which schools often reach late so students practise it least. The internal assessment is an exploration with a page guideline rather than a word count, and most lost marks are notation and justification.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and technology use, with fluent graphical display calculator work assumed throughout. Higher Level also carries Paper 3. The usual failure is a correct calculation presented without the sentence of interpretation that answers the question actually asked.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the most Higher Level weight. The internal assessment is typically 20 per cent, assessed against lettered criteria, and the commonest structural error is a research question that cannot be measured properly with school equipment, which caps analysis and evaluation.

Physics

HL and SL

Paper 1 combines multiple choice with data analysis, Paper 2 is extended response and Paper 3 covers experimental work and the option. Uncertainty treatment, graph gradients used without units, and descriptions offered in place of applied principles are where the marks go.

Biology

HL and SL

The content volume invites memorisation, and memorisation is not what is marked. Command terms decide the grade: an answer that states everything known about a topic scores less than one that answers only what was asked. Statistical treatment is the weak point in most Higher Level internal assessments.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy, correct labelling and evaluation that reaches a judgement. The internal assessment is three commentaries on published news articles, each with a strict word limit, and students lose marks by choosing an article that does not actually illustrate the syllabus concept they intended to analyse.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works, and the Individual Oral connects a global issue to two texts. Higher Level adds the essay. Weak responses summarise; strong ones analyse how meaning is constructed and hold that line across the whole answer.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application under time pressure plus an internal assessment on a real organisation. Choosing a company the student cannot get usable evidence about is the single most common planning error, and it is usually discovered too late in DP2 to change without losing weeks.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all DP students

Assessed by an exhibition of three objects with commentaries and by an essay on a prescribed title. It contributes to the three bonus points alongside the Extended Essay. Students who treat the prescribed title as a topic rather than an arguable question lose marks they never see coming.

The Extended Essay

Core, all DP students

A 4,000-word independent research piece in a chosen subject, with required reflection sessions recorded with the supervisor. The strongest essays have narrow, arguable questions; the weakest have broad topics. Subject-specific criteria differ, so the subject choice changes what a good essay looks like.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Which pattern fits depends on where the student sits on the two-year clock, not on a price tier. All three are live one-to-one online sessions and none involves a tutor travelling to a UAE address.

DP1 foundation work, weekly

One session a week through the first Diploma year, aimed at the transition from IGCSE reasoning to Higher Level reasoning. This is the cheapest useful intervention in the whole programme and the least often booked, because in DP1 nothing looks urgent yet. By DP2 the same gap costs three times the hours.

  • Targets the step in abstraction between IGCSE and Higher Level
  • Runs alongside the school's scheme of work rather than ahead of it
  • Builds the habit of reading criteria before writing
  • Reviewed at the end of DP1 rather than drifting into DP2

Internal assessment and Extended Essay process coaching

Milestone-driven sessions built around one piece of internally assessed work. The tutor teaches the criteria by letter, interrogates the research question until it is measurable, and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. Nobody writes, rewrites or completes any part of it, because that would put the student's Diploma at risk.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback with the marks named
  • Research question narrowed until the data can actually be collected
  • Checkpoints aligned to the school's internal deadlines, not ours
  • Every word submitted remains the student's own

DP2 component repair before the session

Two sessions a week in a defined block, built from past papers marked against command terms. Chosen when content is broadly known but marks are not arriving, which is the dominant DP2 pattern among students who found IGCSE straightforward.

  • Diagnosis from marked scripts before any teaching starts
  • Timed papers weekly, marked to scheme wording
  • Error log by topic and by command term
  • Ends at a stated review point rather than running to the session

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Quoz

Al Quoz families are matched with teachers who work inside one Diploma subject and can discuss an internal assessment by criterion letter rather than by general impression. The first question they ask is where in the two-year cycle the student is, because that decides what is still worth doing.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Quoz

01

What a near me search returns, and what it leaves out

  • Live online delivery into the home; no tutor at an Al Quoz address
  • Matched on subject and level, with no geographic constraint applied
  • Weekday slots usually between 5pm and 7pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Free trial lesson, used to diagnose before anything is booked

An IB tutor near me in Al Quoz search returns results ranked by proximity. IB Gram answers the underlying need differently: one-to-one Diploma teaching delivered into Al Quoz homes as live online sessions on Gulf Standard Time, matched on subject and level. No tutor is sent to a UAE address, because home visits are a service we run only in India.

The map is not lying to you, it is answering a different question. Proximity is a genuine convenience when the service is interchangeable. Diploma teaching is not interchangeable. A Higher Level Chemistry candidate losing marks on organic mechanisms needs someone who has taught that content and marked that paper; a Mathematics Analysis and Approaches candidate losing Paper 3 marks on notation needs someone else entirely. Neither need is affected by which side of Al Khail Road anyone lives on.

There is also a supply problem built into the district. Al Quoz is predominantly industrial by land area, so the residential population it supports is smaller than the map suggests, and the subset of that population who are qualified Diploma subject teachers, free at 5pm, and holding the MoHRE private tuition work permit required of individuals offering private lessons, is smaller still. Narrow the request to Higher Level Physics and the local list can be empty on the exact day you need it.

What follows replaces the map with a calendar and four reference tables: the two-year clock, the component limits, the internal assessment criteria letters, and the Mathematics route decision. Those are the four things Al Quoz families most often tell us they wish they had known a year earlier.

02

The two-year Diploma clock, term by term

Most of what decides a Diploma score happens before the examination hall, and almost all of it is scheduled by the school rather than the board. The table sets out the sequence so a family can locate their own child on it. Note that the useful column is the last one: what has to be true already, because that is where the realistic plan comes from.

The first term of DP1 is the highest-value and least-used entry point. A student who has just met Higher Level content and is reasoning the way IGCSE rewarded can be redirected in a handful of sessions. The same student in the second term of DP2, with internal assessments due and mocks approaching, needs those sessions plus repair of everything built on the gap in between, and has less time to use them in.

The second thing the table shows is which doors close. Subject and level choices made at the end of Year 11 cannot be revisited from DP2. An internal assessment research question that cannot generate usable data is fixable in DP1 and expensive in DP2. The Extended Essay subject choice shapes what a strong essay even looks like, and it is made early.

IB session and results dates are deliberately absent from the table. ibo.org blocks automated access, so nothing specific has been verified for this project, and a date a parent acts on must come from the school's IB coordinator rather than from any tutoring page, including this one. UAE schools sit the May session; that much is safe to plan around.

03

Word and page limits across Diploma components, in one place

Nobody publishes this table, which is odd, because limits are the first thing a student needs and the last thing they are told clearly. Running over a limit does not earn extra credit; in several components it costs marks directly, and in all of them it costs the student time they did not have. Running well under usually means a criterion has been skipped rather than that the work is efficient.

The figures below are the widely published component limits, and they are the ones to confirm against the current subject guide your school holds. We deliberately do not reproduce or supply IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes, because that material is the IB's copyright. Your child's subject teacher has the authoritative current version and the school's own interpretation of it.

The practical use of the table is planning rather than compliance. A 4,000-word Extended Essay with a required reflection process is a different project from a set of three Economics commentaries with a strict limit on each, and a student carrying both in the same term needs those two workloads sequenced rather than stacked. Families who draw this out on a single calendar in DP1 have a markedly easier DP2.

One more use: it exposes the component nobody has started. If your child can tell you the limit for every piece except one, that is the piece to ask about this week.

It is worth adding why under-length work is a warning rather than a relief. A short Extended Essay almost always means the reflection process has not happened, and a short science report usually means the evaluation criterion was reached at midnight. Length is not the thing being marked, but in both of those cases it is a visible symptom of something that is.

DIPLOMA COMPONENT LIMITS AND WHAT THEY IMPLY FOR PLANNING

04

Internal assessment criteria, by letter and by mark

Of all the gaps in this market, this is the widest: across the competitor pages researched for Dubai IB queries, not one names a single internal assessment criterion. Yet the criteria are the whole of the marking, and a student who cannot say what criterion C is asking for is writing blind into 20 per cent of a subject grade.

The letters matter because the marks are not evenly distributed. In the sciences, the criteria run from the research design through data analysis to conclusion and evaluation, and the heaviest weight sits in the middle, on what the student does with the data rather than on how the report reads. Students who spend their effort on presentation and their last evening on evaluation have the allocation exactly inverted.

The table below describes the criterion structure in the terms a parent can act on. Confirm the exact current letters, names and mark totals in the subject guide your school holds, because the IB revises them and we do not republish the guides. What does not change is the relationship: design constrains analysis, analysis constrains conclusion, and evaluation is marked on whether the student can see the weaknesses in their own method.

This is also where the honesty boundary is clearest. A tutor can teach what a criterion demands and tell a student their draft does not yet meet it. A tutor cannot write the section. Knowing the criteria by letter is what makes that distinction workable in practice, because the feedback becomes specific enough to be teaching rather than editing.

HOW INTERNAL ASSESSMENT CRITERIA BEHAVE, AND WHERE STUDENTS LOSE MARKS

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation

This is the decision Al Quoz families revisit most and understand least, and it is taken at the end of Year 11 when the degree the student will apply to is often still vague. Getting it wrong is recoverable in DP1 and not recoverable in DP2, so it belongs on this page rather than in a conversation nobody has.

Analysis and Approaches is the proof, calculus and algebraic route. Applications and Interpretation is the statistics, modelling and technology route. Both are real Mathematics and both come at Higher and Standard Level; the difference is what they prepare a student to do next. Engineering, physics, mathematics and many economics courses commonly expect the Analysis route at Higher Level, and a student who arrives with Applications may find a prerequisite unmet after offers have been made.

The test is not which course sounds harder. It is which one the student can work in fluently, read against the subjects they want to study. A student who enjoys structure, proof and algebraic manipulation is in the wrong course in Applications even if the grade looks better; a student who thinks in data and context is often stronger in Applications and will produce a better internal assessment there.

Check the prerequisite with the universities themselves, including UAE institutions, because requirements differ by programme and they change. What a tutoring page can usefully tell you is that this decision has a deadline, that it is your school's deadline, and that it is worth a conversation with the Mathematics department before it passes rather than after.

The travel premium, and what the market charges in AED

Most price comparisons in this market start at the premium end, which flatters the premium end. Start instead with the question a near me search is implicitly asking: what does physical proximity cost? The answer is visible in the bands. Market rates for an in-home one-to-one visit in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour with travel built in, against roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, according to Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table and providers' own published rates.

That spread is the travel premium, and it buys a person in the room rather than better teaching. It also buys a smaller pool to choose from, because a tutor who drives fits two or three sessions into an evening where a tutor who does not fits four or five, and the scarce early-evening slots go to the families closest to them. In the weeks before the May session, that is exactly when Al Quoz parents are competing for the same hour.

The specialist bands are separate from the format question. IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists are published at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase showing AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 at the top. Budget online provision starts far lower, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, and at that level the service is general support rather than Diploma component diagnosis. Every figure here is another provider's published rate as at October 2026, not an IB Gram price list.

For household context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in Dubai private school fees for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. Tutoring is the variable line in an education budget, which is why a plan with a stated end point matters more than an hourly rate.

Ramadan, holidays and the shape of the UAE academic year

  • Ramadan sessions commonly move to post-Iftar timing for the month
  • The winter break sits between internal assessment drafts and mocks, which makes it the best block in DP2
  • Summer suits the IGCSE to Diploma transition, which is where most DP1 trouble starts
  • Lessons continue across time zones because nothing depends on a Dubai address

No competitor page in this research set discusses this, and every UAE family plans around it. The academic year here has a rhythm of its own: shortened days during Ramadan, a long summer that falls between the examination session and the start of the next year, and a winter break that lands in the middle of DP2 at a point when internal assessments are usually overdue.

During Ramadan the school day is shortened and household routines reshape around Iftar. In practice tutoring sessions move to post-Iftar slots for the month, which is agreed with the tutor rather than imposed, and attention in those sessions is often better than in a 5pm slot during a fasting day. Families who try to keep the pre-Ramadan timetable unchanged usually lose a fortnight to cancellations instead.

The winter break is the most undervalued block in the DP2 year. It falls after internal assessment drafts should exist and before the mock window, which makes it the one period when a student can work on a component without a competing deadline. Al Quoz families who use four sessions in that break typically arrive at mocks with the component already fixed rather than still diagnosing it.

Summer works the same way for DP1 students moving into DP2, and for IGCSE students entering the Diploma. Nothing is tied to a Dubai address, so lessons continue while the family travels, at a time that works in both zones. The practical point is that holiday weeks are not lost time; they are the only uncrowded time the year offers.

08

Academic honesty, and the line this market keeps crossing

  • Permitted: teaching criteria, interrogating a design, feedback the student can defend
  • Not permitted: writing, rewriting, completing or supplying any assessed work
  • Not permitted: redistributing board syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes
  • No regulator or board approval is claimed, because none is held

One operator researched for these pages sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750. That is not a grey area; it is an academic honesty breach that can cost a student the entire Diploma, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller. IB Gram does not write, complete, edit to completion or supply coursework of any kind, and no tutor working through us is permitted to.

What a tutor does instead is teach the assessment. That means explaining each criterion in the IB's own terms, pressing on a research question until it can actually generate data, reading the student's own draft and saying where it sits against the criteria and why, and teaching whatever skill the draft shows is missing. The student writes every word. The useful test after a session is whether the student could explain and defend every change in their own words.

A second boundary concerns materials. We do not publish, reproduce or offer IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade boundary tables as downloads, because that material is the boards' copyright and, for unreleased content, a malpractice exposure. We cite the official source and link to it, and the school holds proper access.

There is a related claim worth refusing explicitly. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and no UAE office or centre. We describe what those bodies do. Any tutoring page implying endorsement is describing something it cannot show you.

09

Starting from Al Quoz, and the limits we will tell you about

  • Send subject, level, school and the last two marked pieces of work
  • Free trial lesson, diagnostic before it is anything else
  • Honest disclosure when a narrow specialism is not available in your slot
  • No grade promises and no claimed regulator approval

The sequence is short and the first step does most of the work. Send the subject, the level, the school and the last two marked pieces, whether that is a paper or an internal assessment draft. A specialist reading those can usually name the failing pattern in one sentence, and the free trial lesson exists to do exactly that before any money changes hands.

Then the honest part. Narrow Diploma specialisms at popular hours are genuinely constrained in the weeks before the May session, when a large share of Dubai's DP2 students want the same early-evening slot. When that happens you get told, offered the nearest workable alternative, and given a realistic view of when the slot you wanted opens. No generalist is quietly substituted for the specialist you asked for, which is the standard failure mode in this market.

A few facts to carry into any conversation with any provider, including this one. Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023; it is granted free of charge for two years, and those operating without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule, so no amount is quoted here. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional ethics rules bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

Finally, nobody can promise a grade, and tutoring is not required for equivalency, university admission or school progression. What is being offered is a specialist who knows the component, a plan with an end point, and a review at which stopping is a legitimate answer.

Where we tutor

What near me actually covers around Al Quoz

If you ran the map search, these are the districts it returned. Each note says what changes for a Diploma family there, which in practice is session timing and nothing else.

Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3

The residential plots, with school runs going outwards in several directions. Weekday sessions realistically start between 5pm and 5.30pm; earlier on days with no after-school commitment.

Al Quoz Industrial 1 to 4

Warehouses, workshops, showrooms and the Alserkal Avenue arts spaces rather than housing. This is why a map search centred on Al Quoz returns a tutor count that has little to do with families.

Business Bay

Dense towers with no school inside the district, so children travel out and back. The practical floor for a weekday Diploma session is nearer 6pm, and DP2 revision often shifts to the weekend.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Served by an IB continuum school on the creek side, so the school run is short. Families here mostly compare online specialists against tuition centres in Oud Metha.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities with nearby schools, giving a 4.30pm to 5pm start. In the final weeks before the May session that extra hour decides whether two sessions a week fit.

Sobha Hartland

Two well-known schools inside the community itself. Demand skews to Higher Level sciences and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, which is also where specialist supply is tightest in this corridor.

Downtown Dubai

Apartment living with long runs in both directions and the latest practical start of this group. Weekend mornings carry a disproportionate share of the revision load.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

A newer villa district filling with families moving out of Downtown and Business Bay apartments. Session timing here behaves like Meydan rather than like the towers they left.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Quoz

Al Quoz, Al Safa and Al Barsha

The cluster most Al Quoz children attend, mixing British, Indian and IB provision within a few kilometres. One household can hold an MYP student and an IGCSE student whose deadlines never align, which is why a single family calendar is worth drawing.

  • GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail
  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • Repton School Al Barsha
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School, Al Quoz

The central corridor across Al Khail Road

The IB-dense cluster Al Quoz families compare themselves with. These schools run the Diploma on their own internal deadline calendars, which is the single biggest reason two neighbours get different advice in the same week.

  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy, Nad Al Sheba
  • Kent College Dubai

Schools appear here as context for the Al Quoz education market. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any of them, and none is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Locate the student on the DP clock

DP1 first term and DP2 second term need completely different plans, and the same symptom means different things at each point. Telling us which term your child is in, and what is due next, shapes the whole conversation more than the subject does.

  2. 02

Send marked work, not just a grade

A grade says there is a problem. A marked script or a returned internal assessment draft says where. Photographs are fine, and a specialist reading two of them can usually say whether the issue is content, technique, timing or design before the first session.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson used as a diagnosis

One live session before any payment. By the end you should have the failing pattern named in a sentence, an estimate of how many sessions it takes, and a straight answer if the honest estimate is fewer sessions than you expected to buy.

  4. 04

Book a slot the school run survives

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the real end of the day, which for Al Quoz usually means 5pm to 7pm on weekdays, with weekend mornings used when a DP2 block needs two sessions and the evenings cannot hold them.

  5. 05

Review at the next internal deadline

The plan is reviewed against the next school assessment, mock or internal assessment checkpoint. If the component is fixed, stopping is the right call. The expensive pattern in this market is a standing session nobody examines until the session has already happened.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Selection by subject, not by proximity

A near me search ranks by distance; Diploma teaching does not vary by distance. Because lessons are online, an Al Quoz family reaches the same Higher Level Physics specialist as a family in Sobha Hartland, and the 5pm car journey stops rationing who is available.

Criteria discussed by letter

Across the competitor pages researched for Dubai IB queries, not one names a single internal assessment criterion. Feedback that identifies which criterion a draft fails, and by how many marks, is teaching. Feedback that says the work needs improving is not.

Limits and weightings published, not implied

The 4,000-word Extended Essay, the strictly limited Economics commentaries, the page-guided Mathematics exploration and the 20 per cent science internal assessment weighting are all on this page, with a pointer to the school's own current subject guide to confirm them.

Dates handled honestly

UAE schools sit the May session, and that is as specific as this page gets, because ibo.org blocks automated access and no IB date in this project is independently verified. Cambridge and Pearson dates are sourced and cited. A date a parent acts on should come from the school.

Rates attributed and dated

Every AED figure here names the provider who published it, as at October 2026. Three of six researched competitors publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency a Dubai family transacts in.

Coverage limits disclosed

When no specialist covers a narrow request at the hour you want, you are told and given a realistic date. No page in this research set discloses a coverage limit, which cannot be true, because every service has one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Quoz: your questions answered

Why does a near me search not find the IB tutor we actually need?+

Because it ranks by distance and Diploma teaching does not vary by distance. A map search centred on Al Quoz returns tuition centres and general tutors, very few of whom can tell you that a science internal assessment is typically 20 per cent of the grade or which criterion your child's draft is failing. The useful filter is subject, level and component. Once lessons are delivered online, which is how we work, that filter is the only one that needs applying.

Do you send an IB tutor to our address in Al Quoz?+

No. IB Gram delivers one-to-one Diploma tuition into Al Quoz homes over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to any address in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we run only in India. Dubai providers who do visit homes charge roughly AED 180 to 500 per hour with travel included, per Bestimate's 2026 rate table. What online delivery buys you is the ability to pick the subject specialist rather than the nearest available person.

How long is the IB Extended Essay and when should it be started?+

It is 4,000 words with a required reflection process recorded with the school supervisor, and it should be started in DP1 rather than DP2. The strongest essays have narrow, arguable research questions; the weakest have broad topics that cannot be answered in the word count. Because the subject-specific criteria differ, the subject choice changes what a good essay looks like. Confirm the current requirements with the subject guide your school holds rather than with any tutoring website.

What is the internal assessment worth in IB sciences?+

Typically 20 per cent of the subject grade, marked by the school against lettered criteria and moderated by the IB. The marks are not evenly spread across those criteria: the heaviest weight sits on what the student does with their data rather than on how the report reads. That is why a research question too broad to measure with school equipment caps the available marks before any writing happens, and why design work in DP1 is worth more than polishing in DP2.

Which IB Maths course should my child take for an engineering degree?+

Engineering, physics and mathematics courses commonly expect Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, and a student arriving with Applications and Interpretation can find a prerequisite unmet after offers are made. But verify the requirement with the specific programmes and universities on the list, including UAE institutions, because requirements differ by course and change. The decision is taken at the end of Year 11 to a school deadline, so it is worth a conversation with the Mathematics department before that date passes.

My child found IGCSE easy but is struggling in DP1. Why?+

Because the two reward different things. IGCSE rewards accurate recall and method; Higher Level work rewards reasoning, justification and the ability to apply a named principle rather than describe a phenomenon. A student who got by on recall arrives in DP1 with a strategy that quietly stops working, and the grades fall before anyone names the cause. It is a handful of sessions to redirect in the first DP1 term, and considerably more by the second term of DP2.

Can a tutor look at my child's internal assessment draft?+

Yes, and that is one of the most useful things a tutor does. They can explain what each criterion demands, say where the draft currently sits against it and why, press on a research question that cannot generate usable data, and teach a skill the draft shows is missing. They cannot write, rewrite or complete any part of it. The test afterwards is whether your child could explain and defend every change in their own words; if not, the line has been crossed.

Which term of the Diploma is the best time to start tutoring?+

The first term of DP1, which is also the least popular answer because nothing feels urgent yet. At that point a student can be redirected from IGCSE habits to Higher Level reasoning in a small number of sessions, and internal assessment research questions can still be chosen well. By the second term of DP2 the same gap needs those sessions plus repair of everything built on top of it, with internal assessments due and mocks approaching, so the hours cost more and buy less.

Does it matter that Al Quoz is mostly an industrial district?+

It matters for the map search and for nothing else. Al Quoz Industrial 1 to 4 are warehouses, workshops, showrooms and the Alserkal Avenue arts spaces, with housing concentrated in Al Quoz 1, 2 and 3. So a proximity search returns a tutor count that has little to do with families living there, and the pool of qualified Diploma subject teachers who are both nearby and free at 5pm is smaller than the result list suggests. Online delivery removes the issue entirely.

How should we use the winter break in DP2?+

As the one uncrowded block in the year. It falls after internal assessment drafts should exist and before the mock window, which means a student can work on one component without a competing deadline for the first time since September. Four focused sessions across that break typically mean arriving at mocks with the component fixed rather than still being diagnosed. Nothing is tied to a Dubai address, so the sessions continue if the family travels, at a time that works in both zones.

Does the Ramadan timetable disrupt a DP2 revision block?+

Only if you leave the slot where it was. Most Al Quoz families move the session to a post-Iftar time for the month. The school day shortens and the household rhythm reshapes around Iftar, so a 5pm session during a fasting day is usually worse than a later one. The slot is agreed with the tutor rather than imposed by a timetable. Families who try to keep the pre-Ramadan schedule unchanged tend to lose a fortnight to cancellations, which in DP2 is a fortnight that was carrying an internal assessment deadline.

What happens to the three bonus Diploma points?+

They come from the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay matrix, which combines performance on both into up to three additional points on top of the 42 available from six subjects. Students routinely treat both as administrative obligations and then discover in DP2 that they are three points short of an offer. Both reward the same thing: a narrow, genuinely arguable question. A prescribed TOK title treated as a topic rather than an argument cannot reach the upper bands.

How many sessions a week does a DP2 student need?+

One a week per subject during term, rising to two in a defined block before mocks or the session. More than two a week in one subject rarely helps, because the student needs the days in between to practise independently and that is where the learning consolidates. If two subjects are failing at once, one session each works better than two in whichever feels most urgent this week. The block should carry a review date from the start.

What if no specialist covers our subject at the time we need?+

We say so and give you a realistic date, rather than substituting someone general. Narrow Higher Level specialisms at early-evening hours are genuinely constrained in the weeks before the May session, when a large share of Dubai's DP2 cohort wants the same slot. You will be offered the nearest workable alternative and told when the one you wanted is likely to open, so the decision to wait or proceed stays with you rather than being made quietly on your behalf.

Replace the map with a calendar

If you came here from a proximity search, the useful next move is to put the map away and find out two things from your child's school: which term of the Diploma they are in, and what is due next. Then send us the subject, the level and the last two marked pieces of work, and take the free trial lesson, which is diagnostic before it is commercial. You should finish it knowing which criterion or component is costing marks and roughly how many sessions it takes to change. Lessons run live online into your Al Quoz home on Gulf Standard Time, planned against your school's deadlines rather than ours.
