IB Physics Tutor in Jumeirah Village Circle

Families looking for an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah Village Circle often start by comparing this community with JVT, Al Barsha South and Motor City. The comparison that matters is a different one: physics against the other sciences, because physics is the hardest subject in the Diploma to staff anywhere. IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video and sends no tutors to UAE addresses.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Circle

The comparison families make, and the one that matters

Jumeirah Village Circle sits in a ring of communities that feel like alternatives to each other. JVT is next door. Al Barsha South holds much of the school provision this whole cluster uses. Motor City is eight to fifteen minutes along Hessa Street. Families compare them for rent, for schools and for the commute, and when they start looking for a physics tutor they compare them for that too.

That comparison will not resolve, and the reason is worth understanding rather than asserting. Physics teachers who have taught the IB Diploma to examination standard are scarce in absolute terms. The International Baccalaureate accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, only a portion of that cohort takes physics, and only a portion of those take it at Higher Level. The resulting population across the whole emirate is small and almost entirely employed full time. Those people live wherever they happen to live, and no mechanism concentrates them in one of these four communities rather than another.

So the useful comparison is not between areas. It is between subjects, and it explains a great deal about why finding a physics tutor feels harder than finding a mathematician. Mathematics is taught to every student in every school, so the teacher population is large. Biology has the deepest supply of the three sciences. Chemistry is thinner. Physics is thinnest, and Higher Level physics in the eight weeks before the May session is the single tightest request in this market.

The second comparison worth making is within physics itself: Higher Level against Standard Level, which are routinely described as the same course at different depths and behave as different subjects. The Higher Level extensions in fields and in quantum physics are substantial, the mathematical demand is materially higher, and a tutor who handles Standard Level comfortably may not be the right person for Paper 2 extended responses at Higher Level.

A third comparison is worth flagging early because it changes what you should buy first. A large share of students described as weak at physics have intact physical reasoning and failing mathematics: they know which relationship applies and cannot rearrange it under time pressure. Those two failures look different on a script, they cost roughly the same marks, and they have completely different fixes. One marked paper distinguishes them in twenty minutes, which is why we ask for the script rather than proposing to start at the beginning of the syllabus.

IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, matched by level and theme. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Confirm every weighting and criterion below against your school's subject guide, because science guides are periodically revised and your child's cohort version is the only one that counts.

At a glance

  • Physics specialist supply is an emirate-level constraint, not a local one
  • Of the three sciences, physics is the hardest to staff at Higher Level
  • Higher Level and Standard Level differ enough to need different tutors
  • Data analysis is assessed as a distinct skill and taught unevenly
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video; no tutor visits a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics reaches a Jumeirah Village Circle student through three stages, and the comparison between them is instructive: each one assesses something quite different.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Organised around five themes covering space, time and motion, the particulate nature of matter, wave behaviour, fields, and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extending within each. Assessment combines two written papers, the first of which splits between multiple choice and data analysis, with an internally assessed scientific investigation. Confirm the current structure and weightings against your school's subject guide.

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no IB examination or results dates here, because ibo.org blocks automated verification; take yours from your school's IB coordinator. What governs planning locally is the school's own investigation deadline and laboratory timetable, both set at campus level, which is a genuine difference between the schools this cluster uses.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Assessed against four criteria — knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science — rather than examined. Students arrive into Diploma Physics with strong inquiry habits and, frequently, lighter quantitative fluency, because the criteria model rewards process more visibly than it rewards manipulation.

Several campuses near Jumeirah Village Circle run the Middle Years Programme while others switch to Cambridge IGCSE at 14, so children of the same age in neighbouring communities arrive into the Diploma from different preparation. A Cambridge 0625 student has usually done more calculation; a Middle Years student has usually done more design work.

A LEVELAges 16-19, the alternative route

The A Level physics comparison

Worth understanding because several schools in this cluster offer A Level rather than the Diploma, and families compare the two. A Level physics is narrower and deeper with a modular or linear structure and separate practical endorsement; IB physics is broader, carries a compulsory internal investigation worth a fifth of the grade, and sits inside a six-subject diploma with core components.

For a Jumeirah Village Circle family weighing a school move, this is the comparison that actually matters rather than the commute. Tutor supply for A Level physics in Dubai is a separate pool again, and it is somewhat deeper than IB physics supply because the British-curriculum sector is far larger at 37 per cent of private enrolment against the IB's 7 per cent.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics divides into parts that fail in different ways and that differ sharply in how easy they are to staff. These are the ones Jumeirah Village Circle families ask for.

Space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, Newton's laws, momentum and, at Higher Level, rotational dynamics. The characteristic error is treating velocity and force as plain numbers, which loses the vector mark while the magnitude is right.

Energy and power transfer

SL and HL

Work, energy, efficiency and conservation arguments. Marks are lost by producing numbers without naming the energy stores involved, which is explicitly what the extended-response scheme asks for. Three sessions corrects the habit.

The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal physics, specific heat capacity, latent heat and the gas laws, with thermodynamic extension at Higher Level. Explanations given in terms of temperature where the scheme wants particle behaviour and mean kinetic energy are the standard loss.

Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Superposition, standing waves, interference, diffraction and the Doppler effect. Standing waves on strings and in pipes is the most commonly muddled item in the theme and is efficient to tutor, because the rules are finite and diagrammatic.

Fields

SL and HL, substantial HL extension

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, circuits, electromagnetic induction and, at Higher Level, orbital motion and field potential. The heaviest Higher Level theme and where most of the session count goes. Circuits collapse on unfamiliar diagrams rather than on missing theory.

Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, the photoelectric effect and, at Higher Level, further quantum phenomena. Content-dense and self-contained, so four or five focused sessions usually secures it — the most efficient theme in the subject.

Data analysis and uncertainties

SL and HL, assessed in the first paper

Gradients, error bars, uncertainty propagation and linearising a relationship. Assessed as its own skill, taught unevenly because it falls between the physics and mathematics departments, and frequently worth a grade boundary for two or three sessions.

Experimental technique and the investigation

SL and HL, 20 per cent of the grade

Research design, variable control, data collection and honest evaluation, marked out of 24 across four criteria. Valuable support sits before the data exists and then again at analysis, always as feedback on the student's own work.

Mathematical fluency for physics

SL and HL

Rearranging equations, indices, standard form, unit conversion and trigonometric resolution of vectors. Not a syllabus topic and very often the actual problem, particularly for a student taking Applications and Interpretation mathematics alongside Higher Level physics.

Extended response technique

SL and HL, second paper

Structuring a multi-mark explanation so each mark-scheme point is separately creditable. Students who know the physics lose marks by tangling three correct ideas into one sentence, of which an examiner can credit one.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of physics support, chosen from what a marked script shows rather than from how worried the household is.

Theme block, five to eight sessions

One named theme worked through with past-paper questions until it holds under timed conditions. Nuclear and quantum physics suits this best at four or five sessions because it is self-contained; fields at Higher Level is the long one and genuinely needs ten to fourteen.

  • A single named theme with a defined end point
  • Theme-specific past-paper questions, marked against the scheme
  • Priced as a block so the total is known at the start
  • Ends when the theme holds under timed conditions

Data analysis and uncertainties block

Two or three sessions on the skill the first paper assesses separately: gradients, error bars, uncertainty propagation and linearising relationships. It falls between the physics and mathematics departments at school and is therefore taught unevenly, which makes it the best-value short block in the subject.

  • Real past-paper data sets rather than textbook examples
  • Uncertainty propagation taught as a procedure
  • Linearising relationships, which recurs in papers and the investigation
  • Finishes in two or three sessions

Investigation design and analysis blocks

Two short blocks timed around the school's laboratory schedule: one before data collection to interrogate the research question and the control of variables, one afterwards on processing, uncertainty and evaluation. Feedback on the student's own work only; the tutor never writes, rewrites or completes any part of it.

  • Research question tested for feasibility before lab time is spent
  • Variable control checked against the design criterion
  • Graphing and propagation worked on a shared screen
  • A dated record of advice given, which protects the student

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Circle

01

Why physics is harder to staff than any other Diploma subject

Start from how teacher supply is produced. Mathematics is taught to every student in every school, so the mathematics teacher population in Dubai is large and a reasonable share of it has taught the Diploma. Biology is the most commonly chosen of the three sciences and has the deepest supply. Chemistry is thinner. Physics is thinnest, and the gap is not marginal.

Then narrow it to the IB. The International Baccalaureate accounts for about 7 per cent of Dubai's private-school enrolment, against 37 per cent for the UK curriculum, out of 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25. A physics teacher in Dubai is far more likely to have taught A Level or a national curriculum than the Diploma. Narrow again to Higher Level and the population is very small, and nearly all of it is employed full time at the handful of campuses offering it.

That is the honest answer to a parent comparing Jumeirah Village Circle with JVT or Al Barsha South. You are comparing samples of the same small emirate-wide population, distributed by where individuals happen to rent. Moving house changes the school run and does not change which physicists can teach your child. It is also why a provider claiming a local Higher Level physics tutor for any community should be asked which school they teach at and which papers they have marked.

The practical response is to stop treating distance as a constraint and treat availability as the real one. The table compares the three sciences on how they actually staff, which is information no competitor page in this market publishes and which should change how early a family books.

02

Higher Level against Standard Level, compared properly

Physics Higher Level and Standard Level are commonly described as the same course taught to different depths, which understates the difference. The Higher Level extensions sit within each theme rather than as separate options, and two of them are substantial: fields, which gains orbital motion and field potential, and nuclear and quantum physics, which gains further quantum phenomena. Rotational dynamics appears in the motion theme.

The mathematical demand is the other real difference. Higher Level physics assumes comfortable work with indices, logarithms, trigonometric resolution of vectors and, in places, rates of change. A student taking Analysis and Approaches alongside it meets that content in parallel; a student taking Applications and Interpretation may not meet some of it at all. That is a planning question for Year 11, not a discovery for Year 13.

The teaching consequence is that the two levels are not interchangeable staffing problems. A tutor who handles Standard Level comfortably — explaining circuits, kinematics and waves clearly — may be out of their depth on Higher Level field potential or on a Paper 2 extended response requiring four separately creditable points about induction. Asking which level somebody actually teaches is a fair and non-confrontational question.

For a family choosing between the levels in Year 11, the honest guidance is to check the published entry requirement for the degrees under consideration. Engineering and physics degrees commonly specify Higher Level physics; many other degrees do not require physics at all. Students sometimes carry Higher Level physics through two difficult years for a plan that never needed it.

03

Is it physics, or is it mathematics?

This is the most useful diagnostic comparison in the subject and it is settled by one marked script. A substantial share of students described as weak at physics have intact physical reasoning and failing mathematics. They know that the component of weight along the slope accelerates the block, and then cannot rearrange the resulting expression under time pressure.

The two patterns look different on paper. Physics-reasoning weakness appears as a blank, or as a wrong starting equation — the student did not know which relationship applied. Mathematical weakness appears as the correct starting equation followed by an algebraic slip, an unconverted unit, or a rearrangement performed in the wrong order. The second is cheaper to fix and the fix transfers straight into the student's mathematics course as well.

At Higher Level the overlap widens. Fields, orbital motion and quantum content all assume comfortable manipulation, and a student taking Applications and Interpretation mathematics may not be meeting that elsewhere in their timetable. Where that is the case, four to six sessions of mathematical fluency before the fields theme arrives is better value than more physics teaching during it.

So the instruction to a Jumeirah Village Circle parent is concrete: send the marked paper before asking for a quote, and ask the prospective tutor which of the two patterns they see, with examples from the script. A specialist will tell you. Somebody who proposes starting at the beginning of the syllabus has not looked at it.

Data analysis: the block nobody buys and everybody needs

  • Assessed separately in the first paper and taught unevenly at school
  • Gradients, error bars, propagation and linearising, all learnable
  • Two or three sessions, often worth a grade boundary
  • Pays again in the investigation's data analysis criterion

The first physics paper assesses data analysis separately from content, and it is the single most reliably underprepared part of the course. The reason is structural rather than anybody's fault: it sits between the physics department and the mathematics department, so each assumes the other has covered it, and in many schools neither has done so explicitly.

What it requires is specific and learnable. Reading a gradient correctly from a graph with awkward axes. Drawing and interpreting error bars. Propagating an uncertainty through a calculation rather than quoting it and moving on. Recognising when a relationship can be linearised, and knowing what the gradient and intercept of the linearised form physically represent. None of that is conceptually hard and all of it has to be shown once.

Two or three sessions on real past-paper data sets usually covers it, which makes it the cheapest grade movement available in physics. It also pays twice, because the same skills are assessed again in the internally assessed investigation, where the data analysis criterion carries marks of its own and where uncertainties stated but never propagated is the standard loss.

This is also a point of comparison between the sciences worth knowing. Chemistry and biology both assess data handling, but physics leans on it hardest and expects the most formal treatment of uncertainty. A tutor who proposes a data analysis block before proposing content teaching has probably read the script properly.

It is also the one block whose availability is reliably good, because it does not require a Higher Level fields specialist. That makes it the sensible thing to run while waiting for a tighter match, rather than leaving a student idle for three weeks.

05

Laboratory access, and what online tuition cannot replace

A comparison worth making honestly, because physics is a practical subject and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The school laboratory is where a student develops measurement sense: the parallax on a metre rule, the way reaction time dwarfs a short interval on a stopwatch, the drift on a thermometer that has not settled. Nothing delivered over video substitutes for that, and the investigation data has to be collected there on the school's timetable.

What video does better than paper is the work either side of it. Before the laboratory session, a tutor can interrogate the research question, estimate whether the expected range of readings is measurable with the available equipment, and spot that a variable cannot in practice be controlled — which saves laboratory time, a rationed resource in every school in this cluster. After the session, raw data can be plotted and annotated on a shared screen, uncertainties propagated step by step, and the student's intended conclusion tested against what the data actually supports.

Simulations are sometimes offered as an equivalent and they are not. They are useful for seeing a relationship cleanly and useless for learning that real measurements are noisy, which is half of what the evaluation criterion is assessing. A tutor who leans on simulations instead of asking what equipment the school has is working around a gap rather than addressing it.

One rule on materials. We do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides as downloads. Tutors work from the copies the school provides and link to the official source. A provider offering a complete folder of everything is describing something they should not be doing.

The investigation: 24 marks and four criteria

The internally assessed scientific investigation carries 20 per cent of the physics grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Confirm the current criteria with your school, since the science guides were restructured relatively recently and schools work from the version their cohort sits.

In physics the design criterion is where projects are usually decided, and it is settled before any measurement. A question that cannot generate enough readings across a usable range, or where the controlled variable cannot genuinely be held constant with school equipment, produces a capped mark that no later writing recovers. Three sessions at that stage is a small block with a disproportionate effect, and it is the one families buy least often.

The evaluation criterion is where otherwise strong physicists lose marks. It asks for specific, honest limitation of the method — that the timing method introduced a systematic error of roughly a known size, and what that does to the conclusion — rather than a list of generic improvements. Writing that more repeats would have helped earns very little. That distinction is taught, not intuited.

The boundary is firm. A tutor may question the design, point out that a method will not produce analysable data, explain what each criterion rewards, mark a draft against the criteria, and teach uncertainty convention and referencing. A tutor may not write any part of the report, rewrite the student's prose, supply a research question as a finished product, provide data the student has not collected, or edit a draft to completion. Our tutors decline requests that cross that line. One operator in this market was found selling completed Internal Assessments outright, which is malpractice with consequences that fall on the student.

What it costs, and when to book it

Rates are set by format and tutor category rather than by subject, so physics costs roughly what any specialist subject costs. Published Dubai figures: a qualified subject tutor working online at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level provision at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, one UK-based agency at AED 270, premium named or examiner-led provision as high as AED 650, and budget online tuition from AED 45 to AED 150. In-home visits including travel run AED 180 to AED 500.

What differs in physics is not the rate but the availability, and that is the comparison a family should actually plan around. Higher Level physics in the eight weeks before the May session is the tightest request in this market, because every Diploma family in Dubai wants the same very small group of people at the same two evening hours. A family that books in September chooses; a family that books in March accepts.

In blocks the figures are modest. Data analysis is two or three sessions. Nuclear and quantum physics is four or five. Wave behaviour is five or six. Higher Level fields is ten to fourteen, which is where most of the spend goes. Investigation support is three sessions plus two. A mathematical fluency block, where the script shows that is the real issue, is four to six.

Every figure here was read from the provider's own published page in October 2026 and describes the market rather than IB Gram, whose fee follows a free trial lesson. We make no examiner claims about any tutor, because current examiner status cannot be evidenced from a website and should never be implied to confer access to marking or grade boundaries.

Where a physics session fits in this cluster

  • Inner communities home by 3.45pm; the outer belt after 4.30pm
  • Adjacent academies close the early window regardless of the short run
  • Physics tolerates tiredness worse than any other Diploma subject
  • Weekend mornings for whole timed papers; sessions move in Ramadan

The commute genuinely differs across these communities, and this is the one place the area comparison pays off. Most Jumeirah Village Circle students travel five to fifteen minutes to JVT or Al Barsha South, or eight to fifteen to Motor City, and are home by about 3.45pm. Students commuting from Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon or Town Square are home after 4.30pm.

That short run looks like it should open an early slot and it usually does not, because Dubai Sports City is adjacent and its academies take students out between four and six. So physics sessions work around 5.30pm for students without a club and 7pm to 8.15pm for the many with one, with the later end for the outer belt.

Physics in particular should not be scheduled early and tired. It requires holding a physical model, applying mathematics to it, and tracking units and vector directions at the same time, which a student cannot do well at five o'clock after a full day. Mathematics tolerates fatigue better, because a familiar procedure can run on autopilot; physics does not.

Place the session after a first attempt at the school's problem set. A student who has tried the questions arrives with a specific sticking point, which is what forty minutes with a specialist resolves. Weekend mornings are the right slot for whole timed papers. Online delivery keeps it flexible: sessions move within the week when an investigation deadline or a fixture collides, shift post-Iftar during Ramadan, and stop at study leave, agreed on day one.

Who is permitted to teach physics privately here

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Scarcity is not a reason to engage your child's own physics teacher
  • No individual tutor holds a KHDA licence; that permit covers premises
  • We make no examiner claims, because they cannot be publicly evidenced

Because the specialist pool is so small, families in this situation sometimes consider approaching the school directly, which makes the permit position worth knowing precisely. Private tutoring in the UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own listing for issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

The eligible list is wider than most parents assume, and in a cluster where the physics pool is this thin it is worth reading properly: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. That last category explains the cheapest cards pinned to JVC community boards, and a sixth-former is not disqualified from drilling kinematics even though they are plainly not the person for Higher Level fields and quantum phenomena. The penalty side is where honesty runs out. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, but no fine schedule has been published, so no amount can honestly be quoted and we do not quote one - where a figure appears on a page serving JVC, JVT or Al Barsha South, somebody has supplied it from nowhere.

The boundary matters here more than in most subjects. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. That is press-reported and should be verified against the current ADEK policy document before being treated as exact wording. Whatever the precise text, scarcity is not a reason to engage your child's own physics teacher privately.

And what nobody in any of these communities holds. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from KHDA. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and is not accredited, licensed, approved by or partnered with KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

Where we tutor

The four communities, compared for physics

These are the areas a Jumeirah Village Circle family weighs against each other. Note that the school access genuinely differs and the physics tutor pool does not.

Jumeirah Village Circle

Dense mid-rise and townhouse community between Al Khail Road, Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Short school runs, with Dubai Sports City adjacent taking students out between four and six.

JVT

Immediately next door and lower-density, with school provision inside and beside it. Five minutes of commute advantage over the Circle and an identical physics specialist pool.

Al Barsha South

Holds much of the IB provision this cluster uses, including continuum campuses that offer Higher Level physics. Living here shortens the school run and does not change tutor access.

Motor City

Eight to fifteen minutes along Hessa Street, predominantly British curriculum, so physics here is more often A Level or IGCSE than IB. Relevant if a school move is being considered.

Dubai Sports City

Adjacent to the Circle, apartment-heavy, and the single biggest influence on when a physics session can run in this whole cluster.

Dubai Hills Estate

Ten to twenty minutes, with substantial recent provision. The nearest genuine change in school choice rather than in tutor availability.

Arabian Ranches

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with established Diploma provision and Higher Level physics cohorts that are typically small.

Arabian Ranches 3 and Mudon

Twenty to thirty minutes out, where the commute genuinely changes session timing and pushes physics towards 7pm or weekend mornings.

Town Square

Twenty-five to thirty-five minutes along Al Qudra Road, the longest run in this comparison, putting a Diploma student home after 4.30pm.

Jumeirah Park

Ten to fifteen minutes towards the coast, British curriculum, and another common destination for students travelling out of the Circle for school.

School ecosystem

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Give us the level and the theme

Physics Higher Level fields and Standard Level wave behaviour are different jobs with different session counts. Tell us the level, the theme being taught now, and whether the trouble is the content, the data analysis or the investigation, because that third answer changes the timing of the whole block.

  2. 02

    Send one marked script

It settles the question this subject turns on: whether the losses are physics reasoning, mathematical manipulation, units and conventions, extended response structure, or data analysis. Those five have different fixes, and a script distinguishes them in twenty minutes where a conversation cannot.

Book earlier than you would for other subjects

Higher Level physics in the weeks before the May session is the tightest request in this market, because the specialist population is very small and every Diploma family wants the same two evening hours. Booking in September means choosing a tutor; booking in March means accepting one.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on the lost question

You and your child meet the proposed specialist over live video. Hand them the question with the mark scheme. Afterwards you get their read on which of the five patterns is operating, a session count and the fee, and you decide. No payment is needed to reach that point.

  5. 05

Time the investigation blocks to the laboratory

Book the design block before the laboratory session and the analysis block after it rather than as one continuous arrangement. The design criterion is settled before a single reading is taken, and there is genuinely little a tutor can add while measurements are being collected.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

We say that the area is not the variable

Physics specialist supply is an emirate-level constraint produced by school staffing, and the population is very small. A family in Jumeirah Village Circle is not disadvantaged against one in Al Barsha South, and a provider claiming a local Higher Level physicist should be asked which school they teach at.

Levels staffed separately

Higher Level extends within every theme and assumes materially more mathematics, and a tutor comfortable at Standard Level may be out of their depth on field potential or a four-point extended response. We propose a tutor with the level named rather than offering physics as one job.

Data analysis proposed first

It is assessed separately in the first paper, falls between departments at school, and is therefore the most reliably underprepared part of the course. Two or three sessions is often worth a grade boundary, and it pays again in the investigation's data analysis criterion.

Maths against physics diagnosed before anything is bought

A large share of physics problems are manipulation problems wearing a physics costume, and the two have different fixes. One marked script distinguishes them, which is why we ask for the script rather than proposing to start at the beginning of the syllabus.

Honest about what the laboratory does

Measurement sense is built at school with real equipment and we will not claim otherwise, or offer simulations as a substitute, because simulations remove exactly the noise the evaluation criterion assesses. What video does better is the design work before and the analysis after.

Online delivery and no invented claims

Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time; IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE, as in-person home tutoring exists only in our India service. No examiner claims, no guaranteed grades, and every AED figure here credited to its published source.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Circle: your questions answered

Is it easier to find an IB physics tutor in Jumeirah Village Circle or in Al Barsha South?+

Neither, and physics is the clearest illustration of why. Physics teachers who have taught the Diploma to examination standard are scarce in absolute terms: the IB is about 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, only a portion of that cohort takes physics, and fewer take it at Higher Level. The resulting population across the whole emirate is small and almost entirely employed full time. Those people live wherever they live, so both communities are drawing from the same small pool by accident of where individuals rent.

Why is physics harder to staff than chemistry or biology?+

Because the supply chain is narrower at every step. Biology is the most commonly chosen of the three sciences and has the deepest teacher supply; chemistry is thinner; physics is thinnest. Then the IB filter applies: a physics teacher in Dubai is far more likely to have taught A Level or a national curriculum than the Diploma. Then the Higher Level filter. Higher Level physics in the eight weeks before the May session is the single tightest request in this market, which is an argument for booking in September rather than March.

How different is Physics HL from SL, really?+

Different enough to need a different tutor. The Higher Level extensions sit within each theme rather than as separate options, and two are substantial: fields gains orbital motion and field potential, and nuclear and quantum physics gains further quantum phenomena, with rotational dynamics added to motion. The mathematical demand is materially higher, assuming comfortable work with indices, logarithms and trigonometric resolution. A tutor who explains Standard Level circuits clearly may be out of their depth on a four-point extended response about induction.

How do I tell physics reasoning from failing algebra on a script?+

Frequently, and one marked script settles it. Physics-reasoning weakness appears as a blank or a wrong starting equation — the student did not know which relationship applied. Mathematical weakness appears as the correct starting equation followed by an algebraic slip, an unconverted unit, or a rearrangement done in the wrong order. The second is cheaper to fix and transfers into the student's mathematics course too. At Higher Level the overlap widens, particularly for students taking Applications and Interpretation alongside Higher Level physics.

What is the best-value short block in IB physics?+

Data analysis and uncertainties, at two or three sessions. The first paper assesses it separately from content, and it falls between the physics and mathematics departments at school, so each assumes the other covered it and often neither did explicitly. It requires reading gradients from awkward axes, drawing and interpreting error bars, propagating uncertainty through a calculation, and recognising when a relationship can be linearised. It also pays twice, because the same skills carry marks in the internally assessed investigation.

Which physics theme takes the most tutoring hours?+

Fields, by a wide margin, and especially at Higher Level. Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, circuits, electromagnetic induction and the Higher Level extensions into orbital motion and field potential together account for most of the session count we propose — typically ten to fourteen sessions against five or six at Standard Level. Circuits specifically collapse when a diagram is unfamiliar rather than when the theory is missing. Nuclear and quantum physics is the opposite: content-dense, self-contained and usually secure in four or five sessions.

Can online physics tuition work without laboratory access?+

For the taught parts yes, and for measurement sense no, and we would not claim otherwise. The school laboratory is where parallax on a metre rule and reaction time against a short interval become real, and investigation data has to be collected there on the school's timetable. What video does better than paper is the work either side: interrogating the research question before laboratory time is spent, then plotting and propagating uncertainties on a shared screen afterwards. Simulations are not a substitute, because they remove the noise the evaluation criterion assesses.

When should we get help with the physics investigation?+

Twice, in two short blocks, and barely at all in between. Three sessions before the laboratory work, because the design criterion is settled before any reading is taken and a question that cannot generate enough readings across a usable range caps the mark permanently. Then two sessions after collection, on processing, uncertainty propagation and the evaluation — where strong physicists lose marks by listing generic improvements instead of naming a specific systematic error and its effect on the conclusion.

Would moving to a different community improve our physics options?+

No, though it might improve two other things. A move to JVT or Al Barsha South shortens the school run by ten or fifteen minutes each way, which is real time in a teenager's week, and a move to Dubai Hills Estate or Motor City may change school provision — including whether the school offers the Diploma at all rather than A Level. What it does not change is which physicists can teach your child, because that pool is emirate-wide and very small.

How does IB physics compare with A Level physics?+

A Level physics is narrower and deeper with a separate practical endorsement; IB physics is broader, carries a compulsory internal investigation worth a fifth of the grade, and sits inside a six-subject diploma with core components. Several schools in this cluster offer A Level rather than the Diploma, so it is a genuine choice for families weighing a move. Tutor supply for A Level physics in Dubai is a separate and somewhat deeper pool, because the UK curriculum is 37 per cent of private enrolment against the IB's 7 per cent.

Does my child need Physics HL for their degree plan?+

It depends entirely on the degree and the institution, and the only reliable source is the published entry requirement for the specific course. Engineering and physics degrees commonly specify Higher Level physics; many other degrees do not require physics at all. Students sometimes carry Higher Level physics through two difficult years for a plan that never needed it, which is worth checking in Year 11 rather than Year 13. Write down three or four degree subjects and look the requirement up at two or three universities each.

How much does IB physics tutoring cost around here?+

Published Dubai rates run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200 to AED 450 and above for specialist IB provision, one UK agency at AED 270, and up to AED 650 for premium examiner-led work. In blocks: two or three sessions for data analysis, four or five for nuclear and quantum, ten to fourteen for Higher Level fields. The real constraint in physics is availability rather than price. Market rates researched October 2026, not IB Gram's prices, which follow the trial.

When should a physics session run for a student in the Circle?+

Around 5.30pm for students without a club and 7pm to 8.15pm for those with one, later for anybody commuting from Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon or Town Square. Most Circle students travel only five to fifteen minutes and are home by 3.45pm, but Dubai Sports City is adjacent and its academies occupy four to six. Physics in particular should not be scheduled early and tired, because it requires holding a model, applying mathematics and tracking units simultaneously — which mathematics tolerates and physics does not.

What happens if no Higher Level physicist is free when we need one?+

You get the realistic wait and the tutor's location rather than a general science tutor. Availability is tightest in the eight weeks before the May session, which is exactly when demand peaks, and for the fields theme specifically. In the meantime a data analysis block or a mathematical fluency block can usually run with a different specialist, and both are genuinely useful rather than filler. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE, we say so, including the time zone, before any payment is taken.

Compare the subject, not the street

If you are weighing Jumeirah Village Circle against JVT, Al Barsha South or Motor City for physics, the comparison will not resolve: the specialist pool is emirate-wide and very small, and it is sampled by where individuals happen to live. The comparisons that pay are physics against the other sciences, Higher Level against Standard Level, and physics reasoning against mathematical manipulation in your child's own script. Send us the level, the theme and one marked paper, and we will propose a physicist you can test in a free trial lesson over live video.
