IB Tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Circle

A search for an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Circle returns distance, which tells you nothing useful. What separates a tutor who moves a grade from one who does not is syllabus knowledge: command terms, paper weightings, where each mark scheme punishes. This page gives you that detail so you can test anybody. IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video and sends no tutors to UAE addresses.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Circle

Test the syllabus knowledge, not the distance

A local search is a reasonable instinct and a poor filter. It ranks whoever has optimised for the place name, and research across sixty-odd competitor pages in this market in October 2026 found agencies routing UAE parents to Indian phone numbers, one page displaying a Dubai footer address on an Abu Dhabi page, and several listing twenty-five or more schools as clients with no apparent relationship. Proximity in a search result is a marketing claim rather than a fact, and it would not predict a grade even if it were true.

What does predict a grade is whether the tutor knows the components. The IB Diploma is not assessed as general subject knowledge; it is assessed through named papers with published weightings, through command terms that carry specific mark allocations, and through Internal Assessments marked against lettered criteria. A tutor who can tell you that a science Internal Assessment typically carries 20 per cent, or that a Higher Level Mathematics student sits a third paper worth 20 per cent, is working inside the actual assessment. A tutor who talks about confidence and study skills is selling something else.

So this page is built as a set of tests you can apply to anybody, us included. It sets out the paper structures of the main Diploma subjects so you can ask which components your child sits. It gives the command terms with what each one actually requires, because that vocabulary is where most marks are lost. It names the mark-scheme traps subject by subject. And it explains what past-paper work looks like when it is done properly rather than handed out.

There is a reason this matters more in Jumeirah Village Circle than in some communities. It is one of the largest and newest residential areas in Dubai, full of families who arrived recently, with a correspondingly large and unregulated local tutoring market. The variation in quality inside the same advertised rate band is wide, and the only reliable way through it is to ask component-level questions.

One thing is worth saying before the detail starts, because it changes what you should buy. The commonest situation we are asked about is a student who clearly knows the content and whose grades do not show it. That is almost never a knowledge problem; it is a mark-scheme problem, and it is diagnosable from one marked script. Tangled extended responses where only one of three correct points can be credited, command terms answered in the wrong register, units and significant figures lost on numerically correct answers. None of it requires new content to be learned, which is why it is both the fastest thing to improve and the most frustrating to leave alone.

IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, matched by subject and level. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Confirm every weighting below against your child's school subject guide, because assessment models are periodically revised and the version your cohort sits is the only one that counts.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes reach Jumeirah Village Circle families, and the assessment vocabulary differs completely between them. A tutor fluent in one is not automatically useful in another.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, each marked out of 7 through a combination of externally assessed papers and an internally assessed component, plus up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, to a maximum of 45. The assessment detail is the subject matter of this page: which papers, what each is worth, and what the command terms in them require.

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no IB examination or results dates on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated verification; take yours from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. For a Jumeirah Village Circle family the dates that actually govern planning are the school's Internal Assessment deadlines, which are published locally and rarely requested.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria lettered A to D, each scored on a published band, with task-specific clarifications written by the teacher. There are no external papers in most schools and no command terms in the Diploma sense, so the assessment language is entirely different and so is the teaching.

Several schools near Jumeirah Village Circle run the Middle Years Programme while neighbouring campuses switch to Cambridge IGCSE at 14, so children of the same age in the same building can be on different models. If your family may move campuses, the transferable gap is extended writing under time pressure rather than content.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Units of inquiry with no external examination and a Year 6 Exhibition. Tuition should be narrow and short at this stage: a specific reading fluency gap, number facts, or written English for a child arriving from another language of instruction. There is no assessment technique to teach, which is why long-running primary tuition usually indicates a misdiagnosis.

Primary provision close to Jumeirah Village Circle is dense, so families here often have a short run for a younger child and a longer one for a Diploma student. Video delivery exists partly so those two journeys do not have to collide in the same hour.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each Diploma subject is assessed through its own set of components, and knowing the structure is how you judge both a tutor and a revision plan. Confirm each one against your school's subject guide.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Two papers at Standard Level and three at Higher Level, plus the exploration. The Higher Level third paper is a small number of extended investigative questions where each part feeds the next, which rewards a skill nothing else in the course trains.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The same component structure as Analysis and Approaches, with technology permitted throughout. Mark schemes here reward interpretation sentences: a regression run correctly and then described in words that do not fit the question's context scores poorly.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Two papers plus the scientific investigation, with the first paper divided between multiple choice and data analysis. Mark schemes penalise loose language about bond strength and reward correct state symbols, significant figures and data-booklet use.

Physics

HL and SL

The same structure as chemistry, with data analysis assessed separately from content. Units, vector direction and naming the controlled variable are where capable candidates lose a grade boundary's worth of marks.

Biology

HL and SL

Two papers plus the investigation. Command terms matter more here than in any other science: outline and explain attract different mark allocations and students regularly answer the wrong one, which is a vocabulary problem rather than a knowledge one.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis, a comparative essay, the Individual Oral on a global issue and, at Higher Level, the HL Essay. The Individual Oral is a structured fifteen-minute performance with a published mark scheme, which makes it the most coachable component in the subject.

Economics

HL and SL

Two papers at Standard Level, three at Higher Level, plus a three-commentary Internal Assessment portfolio. Diagrams must be fully labelled and then referred to in the prose; an unmentioned diagram earns very little whatever its quality.

Business Management

HL and SL

Two papers plus a research project. The ceiling is application: tools reproduced accurately and never applied to the stimulus organisation is the standard reason a confident student plateaus below their expectation.

History

HL and SL

A source-based paper, a thematic essay paper, a regional paper at Higher Level, and a historical investigation. The source paper has a fixed question architecture that rewards rehearsal more than reading, which surprises students every year.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core components

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, plus a 4,000-word independent research piece, together worth up to three points. Both are won at the question-framing stage, months before the writing, and both are supervised by school staff.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Subject work takes three shapes, and the marked paper should choose between them rather than habit doing it.

Component block

Four to six sessions aimed at one named component: the Individual Oral, Higher Level Paper 3, the data-analysis section of a science paper, the Economics commentary portfolio. Components have published structures and mark schemes, which means a block can have a defined end point and a measurable outcome.

  • One named component, with its mark scheme open throughout
  • Priced as a block, so the total is known at the start
  • Rehearsal under conditions rather than discussion
  • Ends when the component is reliable

Weekly subject work with marking

A fixed weekly slot with one specialist, sequenced against the school's teaching order, with past-paper questions set between sessions and marked against the published scheme. The marking is the part that matters: a question discussed is worth far less than a question marked.

  • Same tutor, same time in Gulf Standard Time, every week
  • Questions marked against the scheme, with the scheme shown
  • Command-term drilling built into every session
  • Review at each school assessment, with a change if nothing moved

Command-term and technique block

Two or three sessions on the assessment vocabulary itself, across a student's whole subject set. It sounds narrow and it transfers everywhere, because describe, explain, evaluate and discuss mean the same things in every Diploma subject and most students have never been told what they are.

  • Command terms taught with their mark allocations
  • One point per sentence, in the order the question implies
  • Applied to the student's own lost answers across subjects
  • Short, cheap and improves several subjects at once

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Circle

01

Command terms: the vocabulary that carries the marks

If a single thing separates Diploma candidates with similar knowledge, it is command terms. The IB publishes them, examiners apply them, and most students have never had them explained as a list. State wants a short answer with no working. Outline wants a brief account. Describe wants a detailed account without reasons. Explain wants reasons or causes. Discuss wants a balanced review including opposing arguments. Evaluate wants judgements supported by evidence. Compare and contrast wants similarities and differences together, not in sequence.

The mathematical and scientific terms are stricter still. Show that requires a derivation ending at the stated result, and quoting the result earns nothing. Hence means the previous part must be used, and a correct answer obtained another way can lose marks. Deduce requires a conclusion drawn from given information. Determine implies a specific numerical or algebraic answer. Suggest asks for a plausible proposal where more than one answer is acceptable.

The practical consequence is a mark allocation mismatch. A question worth two marks using outline does not want the four-paragraph answer a student gives; a question worth five marks using evaluate does not want the description they write instead. Students lose marks in both directions and the loss is invisible to them, because they knew the content perfectly well.

This is also the cheapest grade improvement in the Diploma, because it transfers across every subject at once. Two or three sessions working through a student's own lost answers against the command term and the mark allocation usually produces a visible change at the next assessment. Ask any prospective tutor to explain the difference between discuss and evaluate, and to show you a mark scheme where it matters.

02

Paper structures, subject by subject

You cannot plan revision without knowing what each component is worth, and most families have never seen the figures. The pattern across the Diploma is that external papers carry the large majority and an internally assessed component carries the rest, typically a fifth to a third depending on the subject.

In the sciences, the internal investigation commonly carries 20 per cent with two papers carrying the remainder, the first of which splits between multiple choice and data analysis. In Mathematics, both routes have two papers at Standard Level and three at Higher Level, with the exploration at 20 per cent. In English A, the Individual Oral is a substantial weighting at Standard Level and sits alongside an additional HL Essay at Higher Level. In Economics and History the internal component is weighted more heavily than in the sciences, and Higher Level adds a third paper in both.

Three things follow for a Jumeirah Village Circle family planning work. First, the internal component is worth as much as a whole paper in several subjects, and it is the one where work is done in advance with full access to help — which makes neglecting it the single largest unforced error in the Diploma. Second, at Higher Level the third paper in Mathematics, Economics and History each needs separate preparation, because each rewards a different skill from the first two. Third, revision spread evenly across components is revision spread wrongly.

Confirm all of this against your child's school subject guide. Assessment models are periodically revised, schools work from the version their cohort sits, and no tutoring page — including this one — is the authority on your child's weightings. A tutor who cannot tell you the structure of the subject they are being hired for has told you something important.

Mark-scheme traps, by subject

  • Tangled sentences are the universal trap: one point per sentence
  • Sciences: units, significant figures, register, the controlled variable
  • Mathematics: method lines, rounding carried forward, calculator mode
  • Economics and business: a correct diagram the prose never uses

Mark schemes are lists of discrete creditable points, and most lost marks come from writing in a way that prevents a point being awarded rather than from not knowing it. The commonest trap across the whole Diploma is tangling: three correct ideas woven into one flowing sentence, of which an examiner can credit one. The fix is one point per sentence, in the order the question implies, which feels mechanical and earns marks.

In the sciences, the traps are specific. Units omitted on a numerically correct answer. Significant figures copied from the calculator rather than matched to the data. Explanations given in the wrong register — temperature where particle behaviour was wanted, bond strength where intermolecular forces were wanted. Experiments described without naming the controlled variable, which is a mark explicitly available for a single sentence.

In mathematics, missing method lines on multi-mark questions, intermediate values rounded and carried forward, and calculator mode left in degrees for a radian question. In English, extended paraphrase where short comment on selected evidence was wanted. In Economics and Business Management, a fully correct diagram or tool that the prose never refers to, which earns almost nothing on its own.

Every one of those is visible in a single marked paper, which is why we ask for one before quoting a session count. It is also why the most useful thing a tutor does is mark, with the scheme visible to the student. A question discussed produces agreement; a question marked produces a list of specific sentences that did not earn what they should have.

04

Past-paper work done properly

  • Timed, independent attempt first; then marking against the scheme
  • The marking with the scheme visible is where the learning happens
  • Papers are finite, especially Higher Level third papers; spend them deliberately
  • We link official material rather than redistributing it

Every provider says they use past papers. Almost nobody describes what doing it properly involves, so here is the version worth paying for. The student sits a paper, or a defined section of one, under genuine timed conditions, without notes and without stopping. Then the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme, with the scheme visible, annotating where a mark was available and not earned. Then the next session works on what was lost and nothing else.

What is not past-paper work: going through questions together as they arise, which removes the timed element and the independent attempt. Handing over a folder of papers for the student to do alone, which produces unmarked work and false confidence. Working through answers the student has already seen, which tests recall of the answer rather than the skill.

There is a scarcity point worth knowing. The number of past papers in existence for any component is finite, and for Higher Level third papers it is small. Spending them early, untimed, or without marking is wasteful, because they cannot be re-used as genuine diagnostics once a student has seen the questions. The sensible pattern is a few early for diagnosis, the bulk in the final eight weeks under conditions.

One rule about materials. We do not reproduce or distribute IB past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables, syllabus documents or subject guides as downloads. Tutors reference them and work from the copies the school provides, linking to the official source. A provider offering a complete folder of everything is describing something they should not be doing, and it is a reasonable signal about the rest of their practice.

05

Internal Assessments: criteria, not impressions

  • Internal components are marked against published lettered criteria
  • Knowing which criterion carries the most marks tells you where to work
  • Three sessions at the question stage beat ten before submission
  • A tutor questions, marks and gives feedback; never writes or completes

Every Diploma subject has an internally assessed component, marked by the teacher against published lettered criteria and externally moderated. The weighting is substantial — commonly a fifth of the grade in the sciences and more in some other subjects — and it is the only part of the course completed in advance with full access to help, which makes it the most efficient place to earn marks and the most dangerous place to cross a line.

The criteria are the whole of it. A science investigation is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A mathematics exploration is assessed on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics, with use of mathematics carrying the largest allocation. Knowing which criterion carries the most marks tells you where the work should go, and students who do not know usually distribute effort by what feels most enjoyable.

The highest-value help is always earliest. Interrogating a research question so the available evidence can answer it, checking a method will produce analysable data, confirming the mathematics is at the level of the course: three sessions at that stage is a small block with a large effect. Trying to rescue a finished piece built on an unworkable question in the final fortnight is expensive and usually unsuccessful.

The boundary is firm and worth stating because this market contains providers who ignore it. A tutor may teach content, explain each criterion, question a research question, point out that a method will not work, mark a draft against the criteria and teach referencing. A tutor may not write any part of the work, rewrite prose, supply a finished question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit to completion. Our tutors decline when asked. One operator in this market was found advertising completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; buying one is malpractice and the student carries the consequence.

06

Five questions that identify a real IB specialist

Since distance tells you nothing, here is what to ask instead, and it works on any provider including us. First: which components does my child's subject have, and what is each one worth? A specialist answers without hesitating and adds that you should confirm it against the school's subject guide. Second: what is the difference between discuss and evaluate, and can you show me a mark scheme where it matters?

Third: what are the Internal Assessment criteria for this subject, by letter, and which carries the most marks? This is the question that most cleanly separates somebody who teaches the course from somebody who knows the content. Fourth: can you mark this specific question my child lost, with the mark scheme, and tell me which available marks were not earned and why?

Fifth, and the one nobody asks: do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and under which category? Private tutoring in the UAE requires that permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. It is a fair question and a permitted tutor will answer it in a sentence.

Those five questions take about ten minutes and they are considerably more informative than any amount of profile reading. A capable generalist will answer the first two approximately and the third not at all, and will steer the conversation towards confidence, motivation and study skills. That is a real service and a different one, and it should not be bought at a specialist rate.

What this costs, and which band to buy

Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level provision is quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with one UK-based agency publishing AED 270, and premium named or examiner-led provision as high as AED 650. Budget online tuition, typically a university student, is advertised from AED 45 to AED 150, one platform listing from AED 33 to AED 52 and another from AED 45 to AED 65.

For the work described on this page — component technique, command terms, mark-scheme marking, Internal Assessment criteria — the specialist band is the right one, because the whole value is in knowing the assessment. The budget band buys supervision and structure, which is a real service for a student who will not start homework unaided and useless for a Higher Level mark scheme. Paying a specialist rate for homework supervision is equally wasteful in the other direction.

The premium band, up to AED 650, buys scarcity and reputation. Where a claim of examiner status is attached to it, ask what evidence supports it: current examiner status for a named individual cannot be verified from a website, and nobody should be implying it confers access to marking or grade boundaries. We make no such claims about any tutor.

In blocks, the figures are modest. A command-term block is two or three sessions. A component block is four to six. An Internal Assessment question-stage block is three. Every figure above was read from the provider's own published page in October 2026 and describes the market rather than IB Gram, whose fee follows a free trial lesson.

Fitting subject work into a Jumeirah Village Circle week

  • Short school runs here, but adjacent academies close the early window
  • Weekday slots work at 5.30pm without a club, 7pm to 8.15pm with one
  • Schedule after the student's own attempt, which the work depends on
  • Weekend mornings for whole timed papers; sessions move in Ramadan

The afternoon here has a particular shape. Most students travel five to fifteen minutes to JVT or Al Barsha South, or eight to fifteen to Motor City, so they are home earlier than families in the outlying villa communities — often by 3.45pm. Dubai Sports City is immediately next door, though, and academies there take students out again between four and six, which closes the window that short commute appeared to open.

So the workable slots are around 5.30pm for students without a club and 7pm to 8.15pm for the many with one. Students travelling in from Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon or Town Square are home after 4.30pm and sit at the back of that range.

Place the session after a first attempt at the school's work rather than before it. A student who has tried the questions arrives with a specific sticking point, which is what a specialist resolves in forty minutes; a session before homework becomes supervised homework. This matters more for the work described on this page than for content teaching, because command-term and mark-scheme work needs the student's own flawed answer to work on.

Weekend mornings are underused in this community and they are the right slot for whole timed papers, which need ninety uninterrupted minutes. Online delivery keeps all of it flexible: sessions move within the week when a deadline or a fixture collides, shift post-Iftar during Ramadan, and stop cleanly at study leave, which is agreed at the start.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah Village Circle and the belt behind it

Jumeirah Village Circle sits inside Al Khail Road, Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with the Dubailand villa communities beyond. These are the areas families here use for school and compare with.

JVT and Al Barsha South

Five to fifteen minutes and home to most of the IB provision nearest the Circle, including continuum campuses. The shortest school run available from this community.

Motor City

Eight to fifteen minutes along Hessa Street, predominantly British curriculum, so a useful comparison point when a family is weighing IGCSE against the Middle Years Programme at 14.

Dubai Sports City

Adjacent, and the reason Diploma sessions here commonly start at seven. Academy training occupies the hour parents first offer.

Dubai Hills Estate

Ten to twenty minutes depending on route, with substantial recent provision. The nearest serious alternative for a family reconsidering schools between Diploma years.

Arabian Ranches

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with long-established Diploma provision and a correspondingly long afternoon leg.

Arabian Ranches 2 and 3

Newer phases further out. The third phase adds enough driving that weekend mornings become the practical slot for anything needing ninety uninterrupted minutes.

DAMAC Hills

Twenty to thirty minutes via the Umm Suqeim Road corridor, with a school inside the community. Short school run, long everything else.

Town Square

Twenty-five to thirty-five minutes along Al Qudra Road, which puts a Diploma student home after 4.30pm and makes the late evening the only workable session window.

Mudon

Twenty to thirty minutes, another self-contained community. A common comparison for Circle parents weighing a move purely on commute.

Jumeirah Park

Ten to fifteen minutes towards the coast, British curriculum, and another frequent destination for students travelling out of the Circle.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah Village Circle

Jumeirah Village Circle, JVT and Al Barsha South

The immediate cluster, five to fifteen minutes out, and where most Jumeirah Village Circle IB students actually study. Continuum provision sits here, which means a household can have Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma children on three different assessment models at once.

  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Sunmarke School
  • JSS International School
  • Arcadia School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Dubai Hills, Motor City and the Arabian Ranches belt

The second ring, ten to twenty-five minutes away, mixing IB continuum campuses with British-curriculum schools. Subject availability at Higher Level varies across this cluster, which is part of why specialist demand concentrates in the sciences.

  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Arabian Ranches
  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS Metropole School, Motor City
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Ranches Primary School

Schools are named as context for families in and around Jumeirah Village Circle. IB Gram has no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any of them, and none is a client.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the subject, level and component

Not just chemistry but Chemistry Higher Level, and whether the problem is the data-analysis section, the extended responses or the investigation. Components have published structures and mark schemes, so naming one turns a vague request into a block with a defined end.

  2. 02

    Send one marked paper

A marked script shows which mark-scheme traps are operating: tangled sentences, missing units, command terms answered loosely, method lines omitted. Those are different fixes with different session counts, and the script identifies them in twenty minutes where a conversation cannot.

  3. 03

    Ask the five questions

Components and weightings; discuss against evaluate; Internal Assessment criteria by letter and which is heaviest; mark this lost question; and do you hold the MoHRE permit. Ten minutes of concrete answers tells you more than any profile, and it works on us as well as on anyone else.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on the lost question

You and your child meet the proposed specialist over live video. Give them the question and the mark scheme. Afterwards you get their read on which traps are operating, a session count and the fee, and you decide. No payment is required to reach that point.

  5. 05

Insist that questions get marked, not discussed

The agreement worth making is that work set between sessions comes back marked against the published scheme, with the scheme visible to the student. A question discussed produces agreement; a question marked produces a list of specific marks that were available and not earned.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by component, not by distance

We propose a tutor with their subject, level and papers named, because that is the information that predicts a grade. A pin on a map does not, and in this market a claim of local coverage costs a provider nothing to make and is almost impossible for a parent to check.

Command terms taught as a list

The IB publishes them, examiners apply them, and most students have never seen them explained. Two or three sessions on assessment vocabulary improves several subjects at once, which makes it the cheapest grade movement in the Diploma and the one nobody sells.

Marking, with the scheme visible

Work set between sessions comes back marked against the published scheme rather than discussed. That is the difference between a student agreeing with a correct answer and a student seeing which available marks their own sentences failed to earn.

Internal Assessments handled at the question stage

The internal component is worth as much as a whole paper in several subjects and is the only part completed in advance. We push for three sessions at the research-question stage, because a finished piece built on an unworkable question cannot be rescued late.

Online delivery, stated before booking

Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; in-person home tutoring exists only in our India service. You read that before booking, and no UAE enquiry is routed to a non-UAE phone number.

No examiner claims and no invented data

We do not describe any tutor as a current examiner, because that cannot be evidenced publicly and should never imply access to marking or boundaries. No guaranteed grades, no statistics without a sample size and method, and every AED figure here credited to its source.

Student and parent reviews

What students and parents say about working with IB Gram

Practical feedback on tutor fit, revision structure and communication from IB and IGCSE families we have taught.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Circle: your questions answered

Is there an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Circle who visits the apartment?+

Not through IB Gram. We teach Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors serve this community readily, since it is central and dense, at published market rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. What dropping the visit buys you is a tutor chosen for the components your child sits rather than for the drive.

What should I ask an IB tutor to find out if they really know the syllabus?+

Five things. Which components does my child's subject have and what is each worth? What is the difference between discuss and evaluate, and can you show me a mark scheme where it matters? What are the Internal Assessment criteria by letter, and which carries the most marks? Can you mark this specific lost question with the scheme and name the marks that were available? And do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, under which category? Ten minutes of concrete answers beats any amount of profile reading.

Why do command terms matter so much in the IB?+

Because they determine what an examiner can credit. State wants a short answer, outline a brief account, describe a detailed account without reasons, explain reasons or causes, discuss a balanced review including opposing arguments, evaluate judgements supported by evidence. In mathematics and the sciences they are stricter: show that needs a derivation ending at the stated result, and hence means the previous part must be used. Students lose marks in both directions — essays for two-mark outlines, descriptions for five-mark evaluations — while knowing the content perfectly well.

How much is the Internal Assessment worth in my child's subjects?+

It varies by subject and is substantial everywhere. In the sciences the investigation commonly carries 20 per cent; in Mathematics the exploration carries 20 per cent; in Economics and History the internal component is weighted more heavily again; in English A the Individual Oral is a significant weighting at Standard Level. Confirm the exact figures against your child's school subject guide, because assessment models are periodically revised. The planning point is that it is worth as much as a whole paper and is done in advance with access to help.

What does proper past-paper work actually involve?+

Three stages, and most providers skip two of them. The student sits a paper or a defined section under genuine timed conditions, without notes and without stopping. The tutor then marks it against the published scheme, with the scheme visible, annotating where a mark was available and not earned. The next session works only on what was lost. Going through questions together as they arise removes the timed independent attempt; handing over a folder produces unmarked work and false confidence. Papers are also finite, so they should be spent deliberately.

Which mark-scheme trap costs the most marks across subjects?+

Tangling: three correct ideas woven into one flowing sentence, of which an examiner can credit one. Mark schemes are lists of discrete creditable points, so the fix is one point per sentence in the order the question implies, which feels mechanical and earns marks. After that come subject-specific traps — units and significant figures in the sciences, missing method lines in mathematics, paraphrase instead of selected evidence in English, and a correct diagram the prose never refers to in Economics or Business Management.

Does the Higher Level third paper need separate preparation?+

Yes, in every subject that has one. In Mathematics it is a small number of extended investigative questions where each part feeds the next, so an early slip propagates and there is little room to recover; the skill is following an unfamiliar chain of reasoning, which nothing else in the course trains. Economics and History each add a third paper rewarding different skills from the first two. Available past-paper material for third papers is scarce, which is an argument for spending it late and under timed conditions.

What is the boundary on Internal Assessment help, component by component?+

Within a firm boundary, and earliest is best. A tutor can teach content, explain what each lettered criterion rewards, interrogate and narrow a research question, point out that a method will not produce analysable data, mark a draft against the criteria and teach referencing. A tutor cannot write any part of it, rewrite prose, supply a finished question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit to completion. Our tutors decline requests that cross that line; one operator in this market was found selling completed Internal Assessments outright.

Which single block improves the most subjects at once?+

A command-term and technique block, two or three sessions, worked on the student's own lost answers across their whole subject set. Describe, explain, discuss and evaluate mean the same things in every Diploma subject, and the one-point-per-sentence habit applies to every extended response in the course. It is the cheapest improvement available and almost nobody sells it, because it does not look like teaching a subject and it finishes in three sessions rather than running for a year.

My child knows the content but the grades do not reflect it. What is happening?+

Almost always a mark-scheme problem rather than a knowledge problem, and it is diagnosable from one marked paper. The usual combination is tangled extended responses where only one of three correct points can be credited, command terms answered in the wrong register, and in the sciences units or significant figures lost on numerically correct answers. None of it requires new content to be learned, which is why this particular situation is the fastest to improve and the most frustrating to leave alone.

Does the Individual Oral in English really repay coaching?+

More than almost any component in the Diploma. It is a structured performance of about fifteen minutes with a published mark scheme, which means the format, the timing and the criteria are all known in advance and all rehearsable. A student who has run it twice with feedback performs differently from one who has only discussed it. The global issue and the extract choice also matter considerably and are decided weeks earlier, so the useful conversation happens before any rehearsal starts.

How much should component-level IB tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Published rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with specialist IB provision quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above and premium examiner-led work as high as AED 650. For the work on this page the specialist band is the right one, because the value is entirely in assessment knowledge. The blocks are small: two or three sessions for command terms, four to six for a component, three at an Internal Assessment question stage. Market rates researched October 2026.

When can a session happen for a Diploma student in the Circle?+

Around 5.30pm for students without a club and 7pm to 8.15pm for the many with one. Most Jumeirah Village Circle students travel only five to fifteen minutes to JVT or Al Barsha South and are home by 3.45pm, but Dubai Sports City is next door and its academies take students out again between four and six. Students commuting in from Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon or Town Square are home after 4.30pm. Weekend mornings are the right slot for whole timed papers.

What if no specialist is free for my child's component?+

You get the realistic wait and the tutor's location rather than a substitute. Availability is thinnest for Higher Level Physics and Computer Science, for Theory of Knowledge support, and for Higher Level third papers in the weeks before the May session. In the meantime a command-term block or a marking session on a recent mock can often run with a different specialist, which is useful work rather than filler. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE, we say so, including the time zone, before any payment.

Ask about components, not kilometres

A search for an IB tutor near me in Jumeirah Village Circle sorts by the one thing that does not matter. The things that do are component weightings, command terms, Internal Assessment criteria by letter and whether somebody will mark your child's work against a published scheme rather than discuss it. Send us the subject, the level, the component and one marked paper, and we will propose a specialist you can test on exactly those in a free trial lesson over live video. No home visits in the UAE, no promised points, and every figure here attributed.
