IB Home Tutor in Jumeirah Village Circle

Whether hiring an IB home tutor in Jumeirah Village Circle will help depends less on the tutor than on the date. In September almost everything is still available. In February, several levers have already been pulled. This page works the Diploma year backwards so you can see which you are in. IB Gram teaches Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video, and sends no tutors to UAE addresses.

IB & IGCSE in Jumeirah Village Circle

The same enquiry gets a different answer in September and in February

Jumeirah Village Circle generates more tuition enquiries than most Dubai communities, partly because of its size and partly because it is full of families who moved recently and are still working out how the Diploma behaves. The enquiry is almost always the same: my child needs an IB home tutor, what does it cost. The useful reply is a question back. Which term are we in, and what has already been submitted?

The reason is that the Diploma is a two-year machine with deadlines that mostly belong to the school rather than to the board. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment, marked by the teacher and externally moderated, and the school sets its drafting and submission dates months before the examinations. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, together worth up to three of the 45 available points, run on their own internal timelines. By the time the papers arrive, a large share of the grade is already fixed.

So a September enquiry and a February enquiry are different problems. In the first term of Year 12, almost everything is still available: subject and level choices, the Extended Essay research question, the Internal Assessment topic, and the habit of attempting problems unaided. By the second term of Year 13, the Internal Assessments are submitted or nearly so, the core is done, and what remains is examination technique on papers. That is still worth a great deal — technique genuinely moves grades in eight weeks — but it is a narrower job and it should be priced and planned as one.

Which brings in the second thing this page does. Your URL says home tutor, and that is what parents in Jumeirah Village Circle search, so it is answered honestly: what in-home tuition costs in this market, what the travel premium buys, and how families here actually choose. IB Gram delivers one-to-one tuition over live video and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — in-person home visits are a service we run only in India. Stated here rather than after an invoice.

There is a supply consequence to all this that nobody mentions at the point of sale. Rates in Dubai do not move seasonally, but availability does. In the weeks before the May session every Diploma family in the emirate wants the same Higher Level specialists at the same two evening hours, so a family that books in September chooses its tutor and its slot, and a family that books in March accepts whatever is left. That is the strongest argument for acting early, and it has nothing to do with price.

The rest of the page is the calendar in usable form. The Diploma year counted backwards. What eight weeks, four weeks and two weeks can each still achieve. How Internal Assessment season behaves in a household with two children. Where Ramadan and the UAE term structure fall against revision. And what to do if you are reading this in February and worrying that you have left it too late.

At a glance

  • Internal Assessment deadlines are set by the school, months before the papers
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are worth up to three points
  • Technique work genuinely moves grades inside an eight-week window
  • Market in-home rates in Dubai run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour
  • Delivery is live one-to-one video; no tutor visits a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Jumeirah Village Circle families arrive with children in all three IB programmes, and the calendar pressure sits in a different place in each. Knowing which clock is running changes what the next month should contain.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher and Standard Level, each marked out of 7, plus up to three points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, to a maximum of 45. Every subject carries an Internal Assessment on the school's timetable. The calendar runs hardest here: the first term of Year 12 sets the Extended Essay question, the second sets Internal Assessment topics, and Year 13 is submission and examination technique.

UAE schools sit the May session. We publish no IB examination or results dates on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and an unchecked date in front of a parent is worse than none; get yours from your school's IB coordinator or ibo.org. What governs your planning locally is the school's own Internal Assessment calendar, which is published and which most families never ask for.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria lettered A to D, with the Personal Project in the final year. There is no external paper in most schools, so the calendar is a rolling series of classroom tasks rather than a build towards one date. The implication is that help is useful at any point in the year, and that there is rarely a reason to rush.

In Dubai the Middle Years timetable also carries Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies, mandatory in all private schools under KHDA requirements. For a Jumeirah Village Circle family that is real additional load, and it argues for short targeted blocks rather than standing weekly commitments across several subjects.

COREAges 16-19 · across Years 12-13

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Together worth up to three points, and run on school-set internal deadlines spread across both Diploma years. The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent piece with a school supervisor; Theory of Knowledge comprises an exhibition and a prescribed-title essay. Both are won at the question-framing stage, which happens far earlier than most families realise.

The practical consequence for a Jumeirah Village Circle household is that a Year 12 student should be having the Extended Essay conversation in the first term, not the third. A badly framed research question is not rescuable in the final months, and that is the single most common reason core points are lost rather than earned.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Different subjects sit on different internal clocks, because their Internal Assessments take different amounts of calendar time. These are the courses Jumeirah Village Circle families ask about most, with a note on when the pressure arrives.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and the Higher Level Paper 3 investigation. The exploration is written over weeks rather than months, so its pressure arrives later than in the sciences, but Paper 3 preparation needs dedicated time in the second half of Year 13.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and, at Higher Level, graph theory. The exploration here depends on data the student must find or generate, which means the topic decision needs making earlier than students expect to avoid a scramble.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Structure and reactivity, with the scientific investigation requiring laboratory access on the school's schedule. That dependency makes chemistry the subject where the calendar bites hardest: the design has to be right before the lab session, not after.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, fields, waves and quantum physics, with the same laboratory dependency as chemistry. Data analysis and uncertainty work can be done at any point in the year and is usually left far too late.

Biology

HL and SL

Unity and diversity, form and function, interaction and continuity. Investigations often involve organisms or fieldwork, which adds seasonal and logistical constraints that students discover only when they try to collect data.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the Individual Oral and, at Higher Level, the HL Essay. The Individual Oral is a scheduled performance, so it has a hard date in the school calendar and rewards rehearsal in the weeks before it.

Economics

HL and SL

A three-commentary Internal Assessment portfolio, each commentary tied to a news article from a specified window. That window is a genuine calendar constraint: students who leave it late cannot use the articles they wanted.

Business Management

HL and SL

Structured response plus a research project requiring access to an organisation. The access is the bottleneck, and it has to be arranged weeks before the writing, which is why this project slips more often than any other.

Theory of Knowledge

Core component

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay. Prescribed titles are released ahead of the session, so the essay has a fixed window, and the exhibition sits on a school-set date in Year 12 that families rarely see coming.

Extended Essay

Core component

A 4,000-word independent piece with a school supervisor and a series of school-set reflection sessions. Won or lost at the question-framing stage in the first term of Year 12, and the hardest component to rescue late.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

What you should buy depends almost entirely on how many weeks are left. These three formats map onto the three positions a Jumeirah Village Circle family can be in.

Early-year foundation and planning block

For the first and second terms of Year 12. Four to six sessions covering the Extended Essay research question, Internal Assessment topic viability, and the habits that make the next eighteen months work: attempting problems unaided, reading command terms, keeping a dated record of drafts. The cheapest block in the whole Diploma and the one almost nobody buys.

  • Extended Essay question narrowed before the first reflection session
  • Internal Assessment topics tested for viability early
  • Command terms taught before they start costing marks
  • Finishes in four to six sessions, with a review at the next report

Weekly subject work through the middle of the course

The standard arrangement for the long middle: a fixed weekly slot with one specialist, sequenced against the school's teaching order, with questions set between sessions and a review at every school assessment. This is where content gaps close, because there is still time for them to close.

  • Same tutor, same time in Gulf Standard Time, every week
  • Work follows the school's scheme rather than a textbook
  • Past-paper questions marked between lessons
  • Review at each school assessment, with a change if nothing moved

Final eight weeks, papers only

For the second term of Year 13. Two or three shorter sessions a week built entirely around papers: sit it under timed conditions, mark it against the scheme, attack only what was lost. This is technique work, and it is the one thing that still moves a grade when the Internal Assessments are already submitted.

  • Whole papers under timed conditions, marked line by line
  • Command-term drilling specific to each subject
  • Timing shifts post-Iftar during Ramadan without renegotiation
  • A hard stop at study leave, agreed on day one

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Jumeirah Village Circle

01

The Diploma year counted backwards

The calendar is almost always described forwards, which is why families act late. Counted backwards it is obvious what is still available. The examination is a fixed point. Internal Assessment submissions sit months in front of it, set by the school. Drafts sit weeks in front of those. Extended Essay reflection sessions sit across both years on the school's own schedule. Subject and level choices sit at the very start, and once made they are the hardest thing of all to change.

A Jumeirah Village Circle parent should therefore ask the school for one document: the published Internal Assessment and core deadline calendar for their child's cohort. Most schools produce it and most families never request it. It is the single most useful piece of paper in the Diploma, because it tells you exactly which months are already committed and which are free.

The second thing worth noting is that the board's own deadlines are invisible to you. Entry deadlines are handled by the school's examinations officer and sit months before the papers. We publish no IB examination or results dates on this page, because ibo.org blocks automated verification and we will not put an unchecked date in front of a parent; take yours from your school's IB coordinator or from ibo.org directly.

The table below is the shape of the two years as a sequence of what-should-be-done-by-then rather than as dates. Find your current position in the left-hand column, and the rightmost column tells you what a tutor can realistically affect from here.

What eight weeks, four weeks and two weeks can each achieve

Families in Jumeirah Village Circle frequently ring with a specific number of weeks left and a reasonable question: is it worth it. The honest answer varies sharply with the number, and it is worth being precise rather than encouraging.

Eight weeks is a real window. It is enough to sit each paper under timed conditions more than once, mark it properly, and fix the three or four recurring technique errors that cost most students a grade boundary: missing method lines, command terms answered loosely, data-booklet or formula-booklet unfamiliarity, extended responses that tangle three creditable points into one sentence. Eight weeks is not enough to teach two missing Higher Level topics and polish technique at the same time, and a provider promising both is selling optimism.

Four weeks narrows it to technique alone, plus securing recallable marks — the qualitative analysis tests in chemistry, half-life calculations, genetics question shapes, the finite rule sets. That is genuinely useful and it should be priced as a short block, not as the start of a relationship.

Two weeks is triage. The useful work is paper-sitting under timed conditions with marking, so the student stops losing marks to process rather than knowledge, and a decision about which topics to abandon. Telling a student what not to revise is one of the more valuable things a specialist can do at that point, and it is rarely what a family expects to pay for.

Beyond twelve weeks the question stops being interesting, because almost nothing is out of reach. That is precisely why the early-year block is the one we push hardest and the one families almost never buy.

The home-tutor question, answered properly

Jumeirah Village Circle is dense and central, which makes it one of the easier Dubai communities for an in-home tutor to reach. So the honest version of this section is not that home tutoring is impractical here; it is that it costs more and narrows your choice of tutor, and that the second effect matters more than the first.

On cost: in-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are advertised at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel, with a rate survey putting the band at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to AED 500. One provider publishes monthly packages of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions against AED 799 for eight online sessions. A qualified subject tutor working online is advertised at AED 150 to AED 300. Those are market figures from the providers named, researched in October 2026, not IB Gram prices.

On choice: the pool of tutors willing to drive to a specific address at a specific hour is far smaller than the pool who teach a specific course. For Standard Level subjects that may not matter. For Higher Level Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches, it matters a great deal, because the number of people who teach those courses to examination standard is small to begin with.

IB Gram resolves it by removing the travel entirely. Lessons are one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, and we do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-person home visits are a service we run only in India. The calendar advantage is concrete: when an Internal Assessment deadline moves, or a mock week lands, a video session can be rearranged inside the same week without a round trip having to be renegotiated.

Internal Assessment season in a Jumeirah Village Circle household

  • Six Internal Assessment deadlines arrive in roughly the same window
  • Start with the pieces that depend on lab access, organisations or article windows
  • Three sessions at the front of each piece beat ten before submission
  • A tutor questions and marks; a tutor never writes any part of it

There is a period, usually spanning the third term of Year 12 and the first term of Year 13, when every subject's Internal Assessment deadline arrives within a few weeks of every other. A student with six subjects faces six pieces of independent work, each with a school-set draft date, while also being taught new content. This is where households come apart, and it is entirely predictable from the school's own calendar.

The practical response is sequencing rather than more hours. Get the published deadline calendar, lay the six deadlines out, and identify which pieces depend on something outside the student's control: laboratory access for the sciences, an organisation for a Business Management project, articles from a specified window for Economics commentaries, data collection for a Mathematics exploration. Those are the ones to start first, because an external dependency that fails cannot be recovered by working harder.

Where a tutor helps most is at the front of each piece: interrogating the research question, checking that a method will generate analysable data, confirming the mathematics is at the level of the course. Three sessions spread across the right three weeks is worth more than ten in the fortnight before submission, and it costs less.

The boundary matters most in exactly this period, because the pressure is highest. A tutor may teach content, explain each criterion, question a research question, mark a draft against criteria and say which criterion is losing marks, and teach referencing. A tutor may not write any part of the work, rewrite prose, supply a finished question, provide data the student did not collect, or edit to completion. Our tutors decline requests that cross that line. One operator in this market was found advertising completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750; buying one is malpractice and the consequence falls on the student.

05

Ramadan, terms and holidays against the revision calendar

  • Three UAE terms from late August to early July, with breaks that fall near deadlines
  • Ramadan currently overlaps the heaviest Diploma revision period
  • Post-Iftar sessions, shorter, with heavy work moved to weekend mornings
  • Winter and spring breaks are the most underused weeks in the whole course

The UAE academic year runs in three terms from late August to early July, with a winter break around the turn of the year and a spring break in the second half of the year. For a Diploma student those breaks are not neutral: the winter break sits close to Internal Assessment drafting for many subjects, and the spring break sits inside the run-up to the May session. How a family uses them makes a measurable difference.

Ramadan adds a second layer. School days shorten, evenings restructure around Iftar, and energy patterns change for the whole household, including for students who are not fasting. Because Ramadan moves earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, in the current period it falls in the part of the year when Diploma revision is at its most intense. Planning around it rather than being surprised by it is simply better practice.

What works, in our experience with Dubai families: shift sessions to post-Iftar, keep them shorter, and move the heaviest cognitive work — timed papers, Higher Level problem sets — to weekend mornings during that month. Online delivery makes all of that administratively trivial, because nothing has to be renegotiated with a driver or a travel schedule.

The holidays themselves are the most underused resource in the Diploma. A student who does four or five sessions across a winter break, working on an Internal Assessment draft or a weak topic, gains a term's worth of ground without competing with homework. Families almost never plan it, because holidays feel like time off, and then February arrives with the same gap still open.

06

What IB tuition costs, and when demand spikes

Rates in this market are published by format and tutor category rather than by season, but availability is seasonal and it affects what you can actually buy. Published Dubai rates for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-Level provision is quoted at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, one UK-based agency publishing AED 270, and premium named or examiner-led provision as high as AED 650. Budget online tuition, typically a university student, is advertised from AED 45 to AED 150.

The seasonal effect is on supply, not price. In the eight weeks before the May session, every Diploma family in Dubai wants the same Higher Level specialists at the same two or three evening hours. A family that books in September has a choice of tutors and slots; a family that books in March takes what is free. That is the strongest practical argument for the early-year foundation block, and it has nothing to do with rates.

On monthly figures: independent estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support. One provider publishes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Every figure here was read from the provider's own published page in October 2026.

Our own fee is quoted after a free trial lesson, because the honest number depends on how many weeks are left and what the marked work shows. For budget context, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion, so fees are the fixed line this year and tuition is the variable.

If you are reading this in February

  • By February, the internal components are largely fixed; the papers are not
  • Technique errors are visible in one marked mock and move fast
  • Teaching missing content and polishing technique at once does not work
  • A November session or a revised plan is a decision, not a failure

This section exists because most people reach a page like this late, and a page that only addresses September enquiries is not much use. If you are in the second term of Year 13, here is the honest position. The Internal Assessments are submitted or nearly so, so roughly a fifth of each subject grade is already determined. The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge are done or close, so the core points are what they are. What remains is the external papers, and they are worth the large majority of the grade.

That is genuinely good news, because examination technique is the most improvable thing in the Diploma and the fastest to move. A student losing marks to missing method lines, loose command-term responses, formula-booklet unfamiliarity and tangled extended responses can recover a meaningful amount in eight weeks, and those four errors are visible in a single marked mock.

What will not work is attempting to teach missing content and improve technique simultaneously in the same eight weeks. If a Higher Level student is two topics behind, the choice is to secure the rest and accept a ceiling for this session, or to work on the missing topics and leave the technique errors in place. A specialist should tell you which trade they are making and why, and should be willing to say that one of the six subjects is beyond rescue this session.

The other thing available in February is the honest conversation about a November session or a university plan that does not depend on this specific points total. Neither is a failure, and both are better decided in February than in July. We will have that conversation rather than selling a schedule that was never going to fit.

08

Who is permitted to tutor, and what nobody is approved for

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Do not approach your child's own teacher privately, least of all in IA season
  • No individual tutor holds a KHDA licence; that permit covers premises
  • Official papers and mark schemes are linked, never redistributed

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and administered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own listing for issuance of a new work permit for private tutor licensing shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Eligible categories include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure can honestly be quoted and we do not quote one.

A boundary that becomes tempting precisely when the calendar tightens: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct carries a similar restriction. That is press-reported and should be verified against the current ADEK policy document before being relied on as exact wording. Whatever the precise text, do not approach your child's own teacher privately in Internal Assessment season.

And what nobody holds. A tutoring business with premises in Dubai needs an Educational Services Permit for a training institute from KHDA. IB Gram holds no such permit, operates no UAE office or centre, and is not accredited, licensed, approved by or partnered with KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson. We also do not reproduce or distribute IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; tutors reference and link to the official source.

Where we tutor

Jumeirah Village Circle and the Dubailand belt around it

Jumeirah Village Circle sits between Al Khail Road, Hessa Street and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, at the edge of the villa communities running out towards Dubailand. These are the areas families here travel to and compare notes with.

Arabian Ranches

Fifteen to twenty-five minutes along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with long-established Diploma provision. The direction most Jumeirah Village Circle families drive for an IB continuum place.

Arabian Ranches 2

Slightly further out and newer, with its own school provision and a quieter afternoon exit than the original community. A Diploma student here is home around 4.20pm.

Arabian Ranches 3

The newest phase and the longest run of the three, which pushes session times later. Families here often prefer weekend mornings for Extended Essay and Internal Assessment work.

Dubai Hills Estate

Ten to twenty minutes depending on the route, with substantial recent school provision. The closest well-served alternative for Jumeirah Village Circle families reconsidering schools mid-year.

Motor City

Eight to fifteen minutes along Hessa Street, with a large British-curriculum campus. The nearest community where IGCSE rather than Middle Years is the Year 10 conversation.

Dubai Sports City

Adjacent to Jumeirah Village Circle and full of academies that take students out between four and six. The single biggest reason sessions here start at seven rather than five.

DAMAC Hills

Twenty to thirty minutes out along the Umm Suqeim Road corridor, with its own school inside the community. Families here face the longest afternoon leg in this cluster.

Town Square

Twenty-five to thirty-five minutes along Al Qudra Road, which puts a Diploma student home well after 4.30pm and makes the later evening slot the only workable one.

Mudon

Twenty to thirty minutes, and another community where the school is inside the development. Useful comparison for Jumeirah Village Circle parents weighing a move for the commute alone.

JVT and Al Barsha South

The immediate neighbours, five to fifteen minutes away, holding most of the IB provision closest to Jumeirah Village Circle. The shortest run available from this community.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Jumeirah Village Circle

Jumeirah Village Circle, JVT and Al Barsha South

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the date, not just the subject

Which term, what has been submitted, and when the next school deadline falls. A September enquiry and a February enquiry get different plans, different session counts and different prices, and a provider who does not ask is about to sell you the same package either way.

  2. 02

    Get the school's deadline calendar

Most schools publish an Internal Assessment and core deadline schedule for each cohort and most families never request it. Send it to us. It shows which months are already committed and which are free, and it turns a vague worry into a sequence of dated tasks.

  3. 03

Send one marked paper or draft

A marked mock shows the technique errors in twenty minutes; a returned Internal Assessment draft with criterion feedback shows exactly which criterion is costing marks. Either is worth more than a conversation, and together they determine the realistic session count.

  4. 04

Take the free trial on a real problem

You and your child meet the proposed specialist over live video. Hand them the lost question or the criterion feedback. Afterwards you get their read, a plan sized to the weeks remaining, and the fee. No payment is needed to reach that point.

Set the stop date with the plan

Every block gets an end: a named deadline, a mock, or study leave. In a calendar-driven course that discipline matters more than in most, because an arrangement with no end quietly becomes a monthly cost nobody reviews while the deadlines that mattered pass anyway.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The plan is sized to the weeks remaining

Twelve weeks, eight weeks and two weeks are different jobs, and we will tell you plainly what each can and cannot achieve. A provider offering the same weekly package whatever the date is not planning; they are selling a subscription against a fixed deadline.

We ask for the school's deadline calendar

The real deadlines in the Diploma are set by the school, not the board, and most families have never seen their own cohort's schedule. Working from it is the difference between sequencing six Internal Assessments and discovering them one panic at a time.

Honest about late starts

If you are in February with two Higher Level topics missing, we will say that securing the rest and accepting a ceiling is the realistic plan, and that one subject may be beyond rescue this session. That conversation loses bookings and is more useful than a schedule that cannot work.

Online delivery, stated before booking

Lessons are live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram makes no home visits in the UAE; in-person home tutoring exists only in our India service. The calendar benefit is real: a session moves inside the same week when a deadline shifts, with no round trip to renegotiate.

The coursework line holds under pressure

Internal Assessment season is when requests cross the line, and that is exactly when it matters. Tutors teach, question, mark against published criteria and give feedback on the student's own work. They never write, rewrite or complete it, and they will decline.

Attributed figures and no guarantees

Every AED rate here belongs to the provider or survey that published it, with the research date stated, and our fee follows the trial. No guaranteed grades, no satisfaction percentages without a sample size and method, and no self-asserted ratings.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Jumeirah Village Circle: your questions answered

Can an IB home tutor come to our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle?+

Not through IB Gram. We teach Jumeirah Village Circle students one-to-one over live video at a fixed weekly time in Gulf Standard Time, and we make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Independent in-home tutors do work here, and published market rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. Dropping the visit widens the tutor pool from those willing to drive to the Circle at a given hour to everyone who teaches your child's exact course.

We are already in the second term of Year 13. Is it worth starting now?+

Yes, with a narrower aim. By that point the Internal Assessments are submitted or nearly so and the core is done, so roughly a fifth of each subject grade is fixed. What remains is the external papers, which carry the large majority of the grade and are the most improvable part of the Diploma. Eight weeks is enough to sit each paper timed, mark it properly, and fix the three or four recurring technique errors that cost a grade boundary. It is not enough to teach missing content as well.

What should I ask my child's school for before hiring anyone?+

The published Internal Assessment and core deadline calendar for your child's cohort. Most Dubai schools produce one and most families never request it. It shows when each subject's draft and final submissions fall, when the Theory of Knowledge exhibition sits, and when the Extended Essay reflection sessions happen. With that document a vague worry becomes a dated sequence, and you can see immediately which months are already committed and which are genuinely free for tuition.

Which Internal Assessments should my child start first?+

The ones that depend on something outside their control. Laboratory access for the sciences, because the school controls the timetable. An organisation for a Business Management research project, because access has to be arranged. Articles from a specified window for Economics commentaries, because late students cannot use the pieces they wanted. Data collection for a Mathematics exploration. Those dependencies cannot be recovered by working harder later, whereas a purely written component can be compressed if it has to be.

How early should the Extended Essay question be settled?+

In the first term of Year 12, before the first school reflection session if possible. The Extended Essay is won at the question-framing stage: a question narrow enough that available evidence can actually answer it makes the writing straightforward, and a badly framed one is the single most common reason core points are lost rather than earned. It is also the component that is hardest to rescue late, because the research has usually been done by the time anyone notices the question was wrong.

Do sessions need to stop during mock exam weeks?+

Usually pause rather than stop, and it should be planned rather than improvised. In mock weeks a student's time is better spent on the school's own schedule than on an extra session, with one exception: a single session spent marking a mock they have just sat, against the scheme, is often the most valuable hour of the term. After mocks is also the right moment to review the whole arrangement, because a marked set of six papers is the clearest diagnostic information you will get all year.

How does Ramadan affect a Diploma revision plan in Dubai?+

School days shorten, evenings restructure around Iftar, and the whole household's energy pattern changes, including for students who are not fasting. Because Ramadan moves earlier each year against the Gregorian calendar, in the current period it falls in the part of the year when Diploma revision is heaviest. What works is shifting sessions to post-Iftar, keeping them shorter, and moving the heaviest work — timed papers and Higher Level problem sets — to weekend mornings for that month. Online delivery makes the rearrangement trivial.

Should we use the winter break for tuition?+

It is the most underused resource in the whole Diploma. Four or five sessions across a winter break, spent on an Internal Assessment draft or a specific weak topic, gains a term's worth of ground without competing with homework or school deadlines. Families rarely plan it because holidays feel like time off, and then February arrives with the same gap still open. The same applies to the spring break, which sits inside the run-up to the May session and is therefore even more valuable.

Does it cost more to book a tutor close to the exams?+

Not in rate, but it costs you in choice. Published Dubai rates do not move seasonally: a qualified subject tutor online is advertised at roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour and specialist IB provision at AED 200 to AED 450 and above throughout the year. What changes is supply. In the eight weeks before the May session every Diploma family in Dubai wants the same Higher Level specialists at the same two evening hours, so a family booking in September chooses and a family booking in March accepts.

How many points can realistically move in one term?+

We will not put a number on that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What can be said is where movement comes from: technique errors recovered on papers, one weak topic repaired, and criterion-level improvement on a draft that has not yet been submitted. What cannot move is a submitted Internal Assessment or a completed Extended Essay. Any provider promising a specific points gain is making a claim they cannot support, and grade guarantees are something we neither offer nor believe in.

Is it better to tutor one subject properly or three a bit?+

One, nearly always, and the reason is the calendar rather than the money. A student needs unaided practice between sessions, and that attempt is where the learning happens. With six Diploma subjects, Internal Assessment deadlines and academies in nearby Dubai Sports City, three weekly tuition slots leave no room for it. Pick the subject that most affects the overall total or the university plan, run a block, review at the next assessment, and then decide whether a second subject is needed.

What happens if a school deadline moves after we have booked?+

The session moves, usually inside the same week. This is the clearest practical advantage of video delivery for a calendar-driven course: nothing has to be renegotiated with a driver or a travel schedule, so when a draft deadline shifts or an unexpected mock appears, the week reshuffles. Schools in Dubai do adjust internal dates, particularly around Ramadan and the spring break, so an arrangement that can absorb that without lost sessions is worth more than it sounds in September.

Can a tutor help with an Internal Assessment draft that is already written?+

Yes, within a firm boundary, and less usefully than help at the start. A tutor can mark the draft against the published criteria, say which criterion is losing marks and why, point out that a conclusion is not supported by the data, and teach referencing properly. A tutor cannot rewrite the prose, write any new section, supply data the student did not collect, or edit it to completion. Our tutors decline requests that cross that line, and keeping the dated session notes protects the student if authenticity is ever queried.

What if no specialist is free in the weeks we need?+

You get the realistic wait and the specialist's location rather than a substitute. Availability is tightest in the eight weeks before the May session, which is when most families ring, and thinnest for Higher Level Physics, Computer Science and Theory of Knowledge support. In the meantime we can often run a useful adjacent block — data analysis, a marking session on a mock — with a different specialist. Where the available tutor is based outside the UAE, we say so, including the time zone, before any payment.

Tell us the date first

The most useful thing a Jumeirah Village Circle family can send is not a subject name but a position in the calendar: which term, what has been submitted, and when the next school deadline falls. Add the school's published Internal Assessment schedule and one marked paper, and we will tell you what the remaining weeks can realistically achieve and what they cannot. Then you meet the proposed specialist in a free trial lesson over live video and decide. No home visits in the UAE, no promised points, and no figure on this page we cannot attribute to its source.
