IB Physics Tutor in Al Khawaneej

The useful question about an IB Physics tutor in Al Khawaneej is not how far away they live. It is whether they know the course your child is actually taking, because the Diploma Physics guide has been revised and a tutor working from older material will teach content and components that no longer sit where they think. This page tells you how to find out in a few minutes. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Khawaneej

Does anybody near here know the Physics course my child is actually taking?

That is the real question behind a search for a Physics tutor in Al Khawaneej, and it has an unusually specific answer in this subject. Diploma Physics has been revised: the content is organised into themes rather than the older topic-and-option arrangement, experimental technique, technology and mathematics are treated as assessed tools running through the course, and the examination components are not structured as they once were. A tutor who learned the previous version will teach correct physics against a map that no longer matches your child's.

This is not a minor administrative difference. It changes which material belongs together, what a paper expects, and in some cases whether a component a tutor remembers preparing candidates for still exists in the same form. A student can spend a term being well taught and still be surprised by the shape of the examination, which is the most dispiriting way to lose marks that exists.

The second part of the problem is supply, and it is worse in Physics than in almost any other subject. A Dubai secondary school running the Diploma typically has one or two staff able to teach Physics confidently at Higher Level, because the group is small and the content demands it, and those people are employed full time. Al Khawaneej itself holds primary provision and a Dubai Schools campus; its secondary students travel out. The number of people living within a short drive of this community who teach the current Physics course is, realistically, very small. Ask the school how many staff teach it at Higher Level and the local picture becomes clear in one reply.

Put the two together and a local search in this catchment tends to produce approximate matches: a competent science teacher who does not specialise in Physics, a Physics teacher who learned the older course, or an undergraduate who sat the subject recently and has never read a mark scheme as a marker. None of those is dishonest. They are what a distance filter leaves behind, and the only move that genuinely widens the set is removing the distance filter.

That is what IB Gram does: matching on the subject, the level and the current guide, with teaching delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because in-home visiting is a service offered only in India. The rest of this page is the syllabus detail you need in order to judge any tutor, including ours, and the questions that reveal in a few minutes whether somebody knows this course or an older one. None of it requires you to understand the physics; it requires you to know which questions produce a revealing answer.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in the Diploma and is foreshadowed in the programmes before it. These are the three as the schools around Al Khawaneej run them.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Physics taken at Higher or Standard Level within six subjects plus three core elements. The current course organises content into themes rather than the older numbered topics with options, and assesses experimental technique, technology use and mathematical skill alongside the physics itself. Every candidate produces an independent scientific investigation written entirely by the student.

International Baccalaureate programmes held seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, and Diploma Physics groups within that are small. Ask your child's school how many staff teach the subject at Higher Level; the answer explains the availability you will meet when searching locally.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Science assessed against four criteria rather than by papers: knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. Physics content appears inside the sciences strand, usually without the formal uncertainty treatment the Diploma expects from early in the first term.

Students arriving at Diploma Physics from the continuum at Uptown International School in Mirdif generally need uncertainty handling and algebraic fluency addressed in the first weeks. The physics concepts themselves cause far less trouble than the measurement discipline does.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary years with no separate physics. What begins here and matters later is the habit of recording what was actually measured rather than what was expected, and of explaining a result to somebody else in words that could be checked.

Primary provision sits closer to home in this part of Dubai than secondary provision, including a Dubai Schools campus at Al Khawaneej, so younger children finish earlier and tolerate short frequent sessions well.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The subjects around Physics in a Diploma timetable, with a note on what each shares with it. The overlaps are where a single hour of tutoring can pay into more than one grade.

Physics

HL and SL

This page's subject. Content organised into themes covering motion and space-time, matter at the particulate level, wave behaviour, fields, and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extending each. Marks go missing in measurement discipline and in explanation questions answered descriptively.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The mathematical substrate Physics assumes. Rearrangement, trigonometric work, logarithms and calculus all appear inside Physics questions, and a student who handles them slowly spends their attention on the algebra rather than on the physics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics-led route. Its data-handling and regression work transfers usefully into the Physics investigation, while the lighter symbolic manipulation means Physics problem-solving usually needs separate algebra attention.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares unit tracking, significant-figure discipline and the habit of stating conditions precisely. A student who fixes measurement discipline for Physics finds Chemistry calculation marks improving without extra work, which is a useful argument for doing it first.

Biology

HL and SL

Different demands: recall volume and command-term precision rather than calculation. Physics-trained students tend to under-write Biology explanations, assuming that naming the mechanism is the same as explaining the effect.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Chosen by many Physics students. The theoretical sections reward the same decomposition habits as Physics problem-solving; the developed solution is a different kind of project discipline and usually needs its own planning support.

Design Technology

HL and SL

Forces, materials and energy in an applied setting. The written components reward justification rather than description, which is exactly the skill Physics explanation questions test, so progress in one shows up in the other.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Applied mechanics in human movement, including force, work and power. The quantitative sections become straightforward once a student handles units and rearrangement confidently, which is Physics tutoring doing double duty.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL

Energy flows, systems and sustainability, with real quantitative content. A Physics student has an immediate advantage in the calculation sections and often needs help only with the evaluative writing.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory. Physics offers rich material on what counts as evidence in a natural science and how a theory becomes accepted. Support concerns the structure of the argument; the essay and exhibition remain the student's own work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of Physics support, all matched to the current guide and all taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

Measurement discipline first

A short deliberate block on significant figures, uncertainty treatment and graph construction, because these are assessed everywhere and are independent of theme. Six to eight sessions, and it raises marks across motion, fields and the investigation at the same time rather than in one place.

  • Precision limited by the instrument, not by the calculator
  • Uncertainty bars drawn before any line of best fit
  • Gradients taken from the line between widely spaced points
  • Conclusion sentences that name a relationship and attach an uncertainty

Theme-by-theme teaching alongside the school

A weekly slot following what the class is covering now, worked from the student's own notes and returned scripts. The value is in catching a misconception in the week it forms, and in giving the student somewhere to ask the question they did not want to ask in a small Higher Level group.

  • Follows the school's sequence rather than a parallel course
  • Works from the current guide's organisation, not an older map
  • Written note after each session on what to practise
  • Placed after arrival and a break, never straight off the bus

Investigation coaching

Process support on the independent scientific investigation: whether the student's own research question can be measured with available apparatus, whether the plan generates enough data to show a trend, and what each criterion rewards. The writing and the analysis stay the student's own throughout.

  • Feasibility tested before any data is collected
  • Variable control, repeats and uncertainty planned in advance
  • Criteria read with the student in their own words
  • Feedback on their drafts; never writing, rewriting or supplying data

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Khawaneej

01

The tutor who learned the old course

This is the specific risk in Physics, and it is invisible for several weeks. The Diploma Physics guide has been revised, and the revision was not cosmetic: content is now organised into themes rather than the older arrangement of numbered topics plus an option, the assessment components are structured differently, and experimental technique, technology use and mathematical skill are treated as tools running through the whole course rather than as separate add-ons.

A tutor who prepared candidates under the previous guide and has not taught the subject since knows the physics perfectly well. What they do not know is where it now sits, which material is examined together, what a given paper asks for, and whether a component they remember still exists in the same form. The teaching will be good and the preparation will be aimed at a target that has moved. Students notice this first in mock papers, by which point a term has gone.

The remedy is a question rather than a judgement. Ask any prospective tutor when they last prepared a candidate for Diploma Physics and how the course is organised now. A specialist will describe the themes and the tools without hesitation and will refer you to the school's current subject guide as the authority. Somebody working from older material will describe numbered topics and an option. Neither answer is shameful; only one of them is a match for your child. The table below gives the questions and what the answers tell you.

02

The themes, and what each one actually demands

Organising Physics by theme rather than by numbered topic is not merely a relabelling. It groups material that shares an underlying idea, which means a student who understands the idea travels well across the theme and a student who has memorised examples does not. The practical consequence for tutoring is that the diagnosis has to find the idea that is missing rather than the lesson that was absent.

Motion and space-time demands confident handling of vectors and of rate, and it is where the gap between understanding a graph and extracting a value from it first shows. The particulate nature of matter demands moving fluently between the microscopic picture and the measurable quantity. Wave behaviour demands holding a geometric picture and an algebraic relationship at once. Fields demands reasoning about something with no visible cause, which is where recitation fails most visibly. Nuclear and quantum physics demands accepting a probabilistic account and reasoning inside it rather than looking for a mechanical analogy.

The table pairs each theme with the misconception that most often sits underneath a lost mark, and with what a session should actually do about it. The reason this is more useful than a list of topics is that the misconceptions are durable: a student who believes a field is a force rather than a property of space will keep producing the same class of wrong answer across several themes until somebody names it. That naming is what a Physics specialist does and what a general science tutor usually cannot.

THE PHYSICS THEMES AND THE MISCONCEPTION UNDERNEATH THE LOST MARK — CHECK CURRENT ORGANISATION IN YOUR SCHOOL'S SUBJECT GUIDE
ThemeWhat it genuinely demandsThe misconception that costs marksWhat a session should do
Motion and space-timeVectors and rate, handled confidentlyReading a graph's shape instead of extracting a valueExtract values and gradients from given graphs
The particulate nature of matterMoving between microscopic picture and measurementTreating temperature and heat as the same quantityForce the distinction in every explanation written
Wave behaviourA geometric picture and an algebra held togetherMemorised ray diagrams with no underlying reasoningPredict before drawing, then check the drawing
FieldsReasoning about a property of spaceTreating a field as a force rather than a propertyConcept questions with no numbers in them at all
Nuclear and quantum physicsReasoning inside a probabilistic accountSearching for a mechanical analogy that worksQuestions that punish the analogy and reward the model
03

The papers do different jobs, and a revision plan should notice

  • Confirm current component structure with the Diploma coordinator
  • Multiple choice rewards pace and a skip rule
  • Data questions reward a conclusion with an uncertainty attached
  • Extended response rewards a visible chain of reasoning

Confirm the current component structure and weightings with your child's Diploma coordinator, because the school's own documentation is the authority and these arrangements have changed. What is stable, and what families consistently miss, is that the written components reward different behaviours and that revising for one does not prepare a student for the others.

A multiple-choice section rewards speed and the fast elimination of a wrong option, and it punishes a student who spends four minutes on the hardest item and then rushes eight easy ones. A data-based section rewards careful reading of a graph or table and the ability to write a conclusion that names a relationship and attaches an uncertainty to it. An extended-response component rewards a visible chain of reasoning in which the physics is made explicit rather than assumed. Those are three different skills, and a student who has only revised content has practised none of them.

There is a practical test a parent can run without knowing any physics. Ask your child how long they should spend on a single multiple-choice item, and what they do if they are still stuck after that long. A student with an answer has been taught to sit the paper. A student without one has been taught the content and left to work out the examination for themselves, which is the most common gap in otherwise well-taught Physics candidates in this catchment. Fixing it costs a session, and it is not a content problem at all.

04

Three things a Physics specialist sees in a marked script

  • Impossible precision: the instrument limits the answer, not the calculator
  • Error bars drawn before the line, never after it
  • Explanation questions that describe rather than account for a result
  • All three are theme-independent and fixable in a few sessions

Hand the same marked Physics paper to a general science tutor and to a Physics specialist and you get two different readings. The general tutor explains the correct physics for each wrong answer. The specialist reads the pattern, and there are three things they look for first, none of which is about content knowledge.

The first is precision that the instrument could not support. An answer quoted to five figures from a measurement made with a metre rule tells an examiner that the candidate does not understand what their apparatus can know, and it loses marks in a question the student otherwise answered. The second is the order in which graph work was done: error bars added after the line of best fit rather than before it, which inverts the logic of the whole exercise and shows up again in every gradient and conclusion that follows. The third is explanation questions answered descriptively, where the student has stated what happened and never accounted for why.

All three are mechanical, all three are independent of theme, and all three are fixable within a handful of sessions. That is why a specialist usually starts there rather than with whichever theme the student named. It also explains why a family can buy months of competent content teaching and see the grade barely move: the content was never the binding constraint. For an Al Khawaneej family with limited evening hours, finding the binding constraint quickly is the whole point of paying for a specialist rather than a generalist.

05

The assessed tools: technique, technology and mathematics

One of the clearer improvements in the current Physics course is that experimental technique, the use of technology and mathematical skill are treated as things the course teaches and assesses rather than as background competences a student is assumed to arrive with. For tutoring this is useful, because it makes explicit what good teachers always knew: a large share of Physics marks are lost in these three areas rather than in the physics.

Experimental technique means knowing how to choose an instrument, read it to an appropriate precision, identify what will vary and what must be controlled, and judge whether enough repeats have been taken. These skills are assessed in written questions about experiments the candidate did not perform, which makes them learnable without a laboratory and highly responsive to deliberate practice.

Technology means handling data and representations competently, including producing and interpreting graphs and using software or a calculator efficiently under time pressure. Mathematics means the algebra, trigonometry, logarithms and proportional reasoning that sit inside Physics questions. Most Physics difficulty that families describe as conceptual turns out, on inspection of a script, to be one of these three. Twenty minutes a week of pure rearrangement practice with no physics context remains the single highest-return intervention available in the subject, and it improves Chemistry calculations at no extra cost. The practical instruction for a family with limited evening time is to attack the tools before the themes, because the tools are assessed in every theme and the themes are assessed only when they appear.

06

Fields and quantum physics: where recitation stops working

  • Questions with no numbers are the best diagnostic available
  • Memorised relationships fail as soon as a configuration is rephrased
  • Predict first, justify second, equation third
  • Best addressed in the first year, not the revision term

Two themes expose memorisation more ruthlessly than the others, and they are the ones Higher Level candidates in this catchment most often name when asked what they find hard. Fields asks a student to reason about a property of space with no visible cause. Quantum and nuclear physics asks them to reason inside a probabilistic account rather than to find a mechanical picture that behaves the way they expect.

A student who has memorised relationships will answer confidently on familiar configurations and collapse on anything rephrased. The classic diagnostic is a question with no numbers in it: why is the field inside a hollow conductor zero, what happens to the potential as you move between two like charges, why does a particular decay produce the spectrum it does. A candidate holding the underlying idea can reason towards an answer. A candidate holding memorised results has nothing to deploy.

This is slow work and it does not respond to cramming, which is the argument for addressing it in the first year rather than the revision term. In a session it looks like being asked to predict before any equation appears, and then to justify the prediction. Students find it uncomfortable for a few weeks because it exposes precisely where the understanding stops, and that exposure is the point. It is also something a small Higher Level class cannot safely do to one student in front of their peers, which is one of the better arguments for one-to-one teaching in this subject.

07

The investigation, and what a tutor may and may not touch

Every Diploma Physics candidate produces an independent scientific investigation, assessed against published criteria, and it must be the student's own work. Stating the boundary in both directions is more useful than asserting integrity in general terms, so here it is. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards. A tutor may ask whether a research question can be measured with the apparatus the school actually has. A tutor may point out that a plan produces too few data points to show a trend, that the uncertainty treatment is thin, or that an evaluation lists limitations without ranking them.

A tutor may not write the investigation or any section of it, rewrite the student's sentences into their own voice, supply the data, or hand over a method the student then adopts without understanding. There are operators in this market selling completed Internal Assessments outright. A student who submits one risks their whole Diploma, and that risk does not expire when the document is accepted. IB Gram will not produce assessed work at any price, and the same line applies to the Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge essay.

Most investigation marks are lost at the start rather than in the writing, which is why coaching early is worth several times coaching late. An ambitious question that yields four data points cannot be rescued by careful prose. A narrow question with one clearly measurable independent variable and enough repeats to show a trend can be written up by an average writer and score well. Narrowing the question is the single most valuable hour in the whole project, and it is the hour students resist hardest because narrowing feels like abandoning the interesting version.

08

Starting, and the availability we disclose in advance

Send three things. The most recent marked Physics paper with the teacher's comments intact. The level your child sits and the theme the class is currently covering. And the realistic weekday time your child is genuinely able to work, which for a student travelling home to Al Khawaneej from Mirdif, Al Warqa or Al Qusais is later than families expect.

Then a free trial lesson, one-to-one over live video. Use the questions from this page during it: how the course is organised now, when they last prepared a candidate, what the assessed tools are. Then ask them to read the marked script and say what the pattern is. If the answer names measurement discipline, graph order or descriptive explanation rather than listing topics to revise, you have found a specialist. If the hour is spent on their background, you have learned something about the provider instead.

The disclosure, stated before you ask for it. Higher Level Physics specialists are among the scarcest teaching commodities in this emirate, and there are genuinely weeks when no UAE-based specialist holds an evening slot that fits an Al Khawaneej timetable. Where that is the case you will be told, and offered a specialist based elsewhere teaching the same course on the current guide over the same live video on Gulf Standard Time. What will not happen is a general science tutor being presented as a Physics specialist because a slot needed filling. No competitor page reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit at all.

Where we tutor

Physics supply across the eastern suburbs

These notes are about who is actually available to teach the current Physics course in each direction, which is the only version of local supply worth knowing.

Al Khawaneej 1 and 2

Residential at the city's eastern edge, with primary provision and a Dubai Schools campus. The number of residents here who teach Diploma Physics at Higher Level on the current guide is very small, and a visiting tutor is pricing a long drive.

Mirdif

The nearest school cluster and the best local source of Diploma Physics teaching, all of it employed full time. Apparent supply here does not translate into weekday evening availability.

Al Mizhar

Adjacent and drawing on the same schools. Families searching across both communities are searching one pool, which is worth knowing before concluding the next neighbourhood is better served.

Al Warqa

Large schools and large cohorts, but Diploma Physics groups remain small even in very large schools. Cohort size and Higher Level specialist availability are effectively unrelated in this subject.

Al Qusais

Long journeys and substantial enrolments. Students here arrive home latest, which makes a weekend morning the right slot for problem-heavy Physics work rather than a tired weekday hour.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Growing secondary provision with congested evening routes towards Academic City. Any arrangement involving travel across it starts late, whoever is teaching.

Dubai International Academic City

Where much of the budget tutoring supply studies. An engineering undergraduate knows the physics and usually learned a differently organised version of the course, which is the specific risk this page is about.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Khawaneej

Schools near Al Khawaneej running Diploma Physics

Secondary students here travel west, and the Diploma Physics groups they join are small. Ask the school which guide the course is running to and how the components are arranged this year; that answer is what a tutor should be matched against. Students we support attend schools across this group; no affiliation is implied.

The larger schools west and south

Bigger enrolments and more science teaching overall, though Higher Level Physics stays thinly staffed everywhere. These schools are also where locally advertised group science classes cluster, and a group cannot diagnose one student's measurement problem.

  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Al Warqa
  • The Westminster School

Schools are named to describe the local education ecosystem Al Khawaneej families use; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any of them is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Check the tutor against the current guide

Ask how the course is organised now, when they last prepared a candidate, and what the assessed tools are. A specialist describes themes and tools and points you to the school's subject guide. Somebody on older material describes numbered topics and an option.

  2. 02

Send a marked script and the real evening time

The script gives the diagnosis; the measured time decides whether the slot survives to week nine. For a student on a long run across eastern Dubai, the usable window is later and shorter than the school day's end implies.

  3. 03

Free trial read as a pattern diagnosis

Ask the tutor what the pattern in the marked script is. Measurement discipline, graph order and descriptive explanation are the answers a specialist gives. A list of topics to revise is the answer a generalist gives, and it is worth noticing the difference.

  4. 04

Fix the tools before the themes

Significant figures, uncertainty treatment, graph construction and rearrangement are assessed everywhere and are independent of theme. Six to eight sessions on them raises marks across motion, fields and the investigation at once.

  5. 05

Review at four sessions against a script

Fewer answers with impossible precision, graphs built in the right order, explanation questions that account rather than describe. If none of that has changed, the method or the tutor changes rather than the hours increasing.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the current guide

Diploma Physics has been revised into themes with assessed tools, and a tutor working from older material teaches correct physics against a map that has moved. The questions that establish which you are speaking to are published on this page.

Honest about Physics supply

A typical Dubai school has one or two Higher Level Physics teachers and they are employed full time. Al Khawaneej has no large secondary Physics cohort inside the community, so a local search returns approximate matches rather than specialists.

Diagnosis by pattern, not by topic

Impossible precision, error bars added after the line, and explanation questions answered descriptively are the three things a specialist looks for first. All are theme-independent and fixable within a handful of sessions.

Tools treated as assessed content

Experimental technique, technology use and mathematical skill are where most Physics marks are actually lost. Twenty minutes a week of context-free rearrangement practice remains the highest-return intervention in the subject.

Concept questions with no numbers

Fields and quantum physics expose memorisation, and the best diagnostic is a question with no numbers in it. One-to-one teaching can do that to a student safely; a small Higher Level class in front of their peers cannot.

The investigation line in writing

A tutor explains criteria, tests feasibility and gives feedback on the student's own drafts, and does not write, rewrite or supply data. The line is published because operators selling completed assessments are active in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Khawaneej: your questions answered

How do I know whether a Physics tutor knows the current IB course?+

Ask how the course is organised now and when they last prepared a candidate. A current specialist describes the content as themes with experimental technique, technology and mathematics as assessed tools running through them, and points you to your school's own subject guide as the authority. Somebody working from older material describes numbered topics plus a chosen option. Neither answer is shameful, but only one matches the course your child is taking, and the mismatch stays invisible until mock papers.

Why is a Higher Level Physics tutor so hard to find near Al Khawaneej?+

Arithmetic rather than bad luck. A Dubai secondary school running the Diploma usually has one or two staff able to teach Physics confidently at Higher Level, because the group is small and the content requires it, and those people are employed full time. Al Khawaneej holds primary provision and a Dubai Schools campus rather than a large secondary Physics cohort. Add a requirement for weekday evening availability and proximity, and the set of candidates is frequently one person or none.

What does a Physics specialist notice that a general science tutor misses?+

Three things, and none of them is content. Answers quoted to a precision the instrument could not support, which loses marks on otherwise correct work. Graph questions where the error bars were added after the line of best fit rather than before it, inverting the logic and affecting every gradient and conclusion that follows. And explanation questions answered descriptively, stating what happened without accounting for why. All three are theme-independent, all three are mechanical, and all three are fixable in a handful of sessions.

Which Physics theme causes the most difficulty?+

Fields, usually, because it asks a student to reason about a property of space with no visible cause, and memorised relationships collapse the moment a configuration is rephrased. Quantum and nuclear physics is a close second for the same reason: students look for a mechanical analogy that behaves the way they expect, and there is not one. The best diagnostic in both is a question with no numbers in it, which reveals immediately whether the student holds the idea or a set of results.

What are the assessed tools in IB Physics?+

Experimental technique, the use of technology, and mathematical skill. The current course treats them as things it teaches and assesses rather than as competences a student is assumed to arrive with, which is a genuine improvement because it names where most marks are actually lost. Technique covers instrument choice, precision, variable control and judging repeats. Technology covers data handling and representation. Mathematics covers the algebra and trigonometry inside Physics questions, which is where most apparently conceptual difficulty turns out to live.

How should my child prepare for the multiple-choice section?+

By practising the behaviour rather than the content. The section rewards pace and fast elimination of wrong options, and punishes a candidate who spends four minutes on the hardest item and then rushes eight easy ones. The practical test a parent can run is to ask your child how long they should spend on a single item and what they do if still stuck. A student with an answer has been taught to sit the paper. A student without one has been taught the content and left to work out the exam alone.

Can a tutor coach the Physics investigation legitimately?+

Yes, inside a line worth stating in both directions. A tutor may explain what each criterion rewards, ask whether a research question can be measured with the school's actual apparatus, say that a plan yields too few data points, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any section, rewrite the student's sentences, supply the data, or provide a method the student does not understand. Operators selling completed Internal Assessments exist, and submitting one risks the whole Diploma.

When should the investigation work start?+

Earlier than most students begin, because the marks are lost at the start rather than in the writing. An ambitious question producing four data points cannot be rescued by careful prose, while a narrow question with one clearly measurable variable and enough repeats to show a trend can be written up by an average writer and score well. Narrowing the question is the single most valuable hour in the project and the one students resist hardest, since narrowing feels like abandoning the interesting version of the idea.

My child is strong in maths and weak in Physics. Why?+

Two patterns produce that combination. The first is measurement discipline: a student can solve the algebra flawlessly and lose marks for quoting an impossible precision or omitting an uncertainty, which is a Physics-specific habit rather than a mathematical one. The second is explanation: Physics asks for a chain of reasoning in words, and strong mathematicians often give the calculation and stop. Both are diagnosable from one marked script and both respond quickly, which makes this a cheaper problem to fix than it first appears.

Does my child need Physics at Higher Level for engineering?+

Check the specific programme at the specific institution, because requirements vary and change. Engineering faculties commonly expect Physics and a mathematics subject at Higher Level, and some name Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches rather than Applications and Interpretation. Read the admissions page for the exact degree, note what it names, and plan the Diploma choices backwards from that. A tutor can help with the Physics; the entry requirement itself should come from the university rather than from any tutoring provider.

Is online teaching workable for a subject with practical work?+

For the written assessment of experimental skills, yes, and arguably better than the alternative. The questions ask about experiments the candidate did not perform, testing variable identification, precision, anomaly explanation and method improvement, all of which are learnable without apparatus and respond strongly to deliberate practice. A shared whiteboard with the student's own script and graphs on screen covers the working methods the subject needs. The school supplies the laboratory work; tutoring supplies the discipline around interpreting and writing about it.

How many Physics sessions a week does a Higher Level student here need?+

One, placed well, plus practice between sessions that actually happens. Two short sessions on separate evenings beat a single long block for Physics, because the subject needs repeated practice at starting questions rather than extended explanation. For a student travelling home to Al Khawaneej from Al Qusais or Al Warqa, the binding constraint is attention rather than hours, so a weekend morning generally outperforms a second tired weekday evening by a clear margin.

Where should we get Physics past papers and the current subject guide?+

From your child's school, which holds the current guide and the material it is entitled to use, and from the board's own published pages. Files circulating in parent groups are frequently from the previous version of the course, and an outdated guide is worse than none because it looks authoritative and quietly misplaces whole sections of content. IB Gram does not reproduce or distribute syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables.

What should an Al Khawaneej family send before a first Physics session?+

Three things. The most recent marked Physics paper with the teacher's comments left on, which is where any real diagnosis comes from. The level sat and the theme the class is currently covering, so the session connects to this week rather than to a generic syllabus order. And the measured weekday time your child can genuinely work, taken from a week of noting when the first page was actually open rather than estimated from the end of the school day.

Ask about the course, then about the script

Physics is the subject where a tutor can know everything and still be aimed at the wrong target, because the course has been reorganised and older material maps badly onto it. Ask how the course is structured now and when they last prepared a candidate. Then send the most recent marked script and ask what the pattern is: impossible precision, graphs built in the wrong order, explanations that describe rather than account. A specialist names the pattern inside an hour. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
