IB Physics Tutor in Al Barsha South

Parents searching for an IB Physics tutor in Al Barsha South are usually comparing their own district with Dubai Marina or Al Barsha 1, on the assumption that one of them has better tutors. It does not. The Physics your child sits is the same guide, the same five themes and the same 20% investigation whichever villa the lessons happen in. IB Gram teaches it one-to-one over live video, scheduled around the school run out of Al Barsha South, with a free trial lesson before anything is paid for.

  • Lessons run online over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time

IB & IGCSE in Al Barsha South

Al Barsha South, Dubai Marina, Al Barsha 1 — the same Physics paper in all three

An IB Physics tutor in Al Barsha South is a different search from an IB Physics tutor in Dubai Marina only in one respect: the traffic. The syllabus is identical. A student at a school off Hessa Street and a student in a tower on the Marina walk sit the same Paper 1, the same Paper 2, and submit a scientific investigation marked against the same four criteria out of the same 24 marks. If your child is losing marks on uncertainty propagation, the postcode has nothing to do with it and moving to a tutor two districts over will not fix it.

What the postcode does change is which tutors can physically reach you, and that is exactly the constraint worth removing. Al Barsha South sits behind Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, bounded by Dubai Science Park, Arjan and the Jumeirah Village communities. A tutor driving in from Mirdif at 4.30pm on a Tuesday is making a forty-minute trip each way, and you pay for that in the hourly rate whether the invoice itemises it or not. The pool of Physics specialists who will make that drive is small, and it is smaller again if you need Physics HL rather than SL.

Delivered online, the pool stops being a map problem. A family in Al Barsha South 2 can work with a specialist who has taught the fields and nuclear content at HL for years, instead of whoever is free within a twenty-minute radius. That is the whole argument, and it is the same argument a Marina family or an Arjan family would get: the comparison between districts collapses once distance stops being a filter. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India, and saying so plainly is more useful to you than a promise we would not keep.

This page is written for the comparison you are actually running. It sets Al Barsha South against the neighbourhoods either side of it on the things that genuinely differ — school end times, commute windows, which schools each cluster feeds, what the in-home market quotes for a visit — and then shows where those differences stop mattering. It also does the part the competing pages skip: the actual assessment structure, the themes, the places Physics marks disappear, what the Dubai market charges in AED with the source attached, and where the line sits between coaching an investigation and interfering with it.

One thing to settle before you read further. Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted work, not unregulated work. Individuals giving private lessons need the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which u.ae states is granted free of charge for two years. Anyone offering to teach your child in Al Barsha South without one is operating outside that framework, and the official application route is MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. Ask. It is a reasonable question and a tutor who cannot answer it has told you something.

At a glance

  • Physics Paper 1 is 36% of the final grade; Paper 2 is 44%; the investigation is 20%
  • The investigation is capped at 3,000 words and marked on four criteria, 6 marks each
  • HL sits the same themes as SL plus additional higher level content inside each theme
  • Al Barsha South feeds schools in Al Barsha South itself, Al Barsha 1 and Al Sufouh
  • Market rates for a qualified online subject tutor in Dubai run roughly AED 150-300 an hour
  • In-home visits are quoted higher because travel is inside the price, not beside it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics does not begin in DP1. The students who find themes A and B manageable are usually the ones who met forces, energy and particle models properly in MYP Sciences or IGCSE. These are the programme stages we teach into, and what each one needs from a Physics tutor working with a family in Al Barsha South.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Physics

Physics SL and HL share five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics. HL adds further content inside each theme rather than bolting on a sixth. Assessment is Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation. Paper 1 splits into multiple-choice and a data-analysis section, which is where students who have only practised calculation questions get caught.

Al Barsha South students mostly reach DP Physics through one of two routes: a British-curriculum IGCSE at a school in Al Barsha South or Al Barsha 1, or MYP Sciences at an IB continuum school. The two routes arrive with different gaps. IGCSE students are fluent in recall and weak on uncertainties; MYP students are comfortable with investigation design and short on algebraic fluency. The first two lessons establish which of those you have.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

MYP Sciences is assessed on four criteria rather than papers, and Physics content sits inside an integrated sciences course for most of the programme. MYP 4 and 5 are where Physics separates out in many schools. Criterion B and C work — inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating — is the direct ancestor of the DP investigation, so a student who has been coasting on criterion A knowledge drops sharply in DP1.

Several Al Barsha South and Al Barsha 1 families are at IB continuum schools and will choose between Physics SL, Physics HL and a non-Physics science at the end of MYP 5. We treat that choice as a real one with evidence behind it: how the student handled rearranging equations, whether they could design a fair test without a template, and what the MYP 5 criterion scores actually say rather than what the predicted grade feels like.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the pre-DP route

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 are the two syllabuses most British-curriculum schools in this part of Dubai run. Both split into core and extended or tiered papers, and both carry an assessment of practical skills. The content overlap with DP themes A, B and C is substantial, which is why a weak IGCSE Physics grade is a reliable predictor of a difficult DP1.

A family in Al Barsha South choosing between A Level and IB Diploma at 16 is usually also choosing between two schools in different districts. Physics is the subject where that choice bites hardest, because the IB route keeps the investigation and the data-analysis paper while the A Level route weights the written papers more heavily. We will say which suits a given student rather than which is better in the abstract.

CPAges 16-19

Career-related Programme science components

The Career-related Programme combines DP courses with a career-related study, and students taking a DP Physics course inside CP sit exactly the same Physics assessment as a full Diploma candidate. The difference is the surrounding load: fewer DP subjects, a reflective project, and a service-learning requirement that competes for the same evenings a Physics investigation needs.

CP is offered at a small number of Dubai schools and is rare in the Al Barsha South cluster, so most families here will not meet it. We list it because the Physics component is identical and because parents comparing schools across districts occasionally find it and assume the Physics is lighter. It is not. The papers and the investigation weightings do not change.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely the only pressure point. These are the subjects most often taught alongside it for students in Al Barsha South and the neighbouring communities, with what each one actually assesses and where the marks go missing.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes A to E, with HL extension inside each. Paper 1 at 36%, Paper 2 at 44%, investigation at 20%. The recurring HL failure is fields: students handle gravitational and electric fields separately and never see the shared structure, so transfer questions between them collapse.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The usual partner subject for Physics HL. Calculus fluency is what makes kinematics and rates of change in Physics feel easy or impossible. AA HL students who are secure on differentiation rarely struggle with Physics theme A; the ones who are not, do.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

AI SL alongside Physics SL is a common Al Barsha South combination and it works, with one caveat: AI spends less time on algebraic rearrangement, so Physics becomes the place where that weakness appears. We drill rearrangement inside Physics rather than pretending it is a maths problem.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Shares the four investigation criteria and the same uncertainty conventions as Physics, so the skills transfer directly. Students doing both sciences often write two investigations in the same term; sequencing those so they do not collide is half the support we give in DP1.

Biology

HL and SL

The data-analysis half of Paper 1 rewards the same habits in Biology as in Physics: read the axes, check the units, say what the gradient physically means. Biology students who have been taught to describe rather than interpret lose marks in exactly the same places.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Paired with Physics HL by students heading for engineering. The overlap is logic and systems thinking rather than content, but the internal assessment load is heavy and runs on the same calendar as the Physics investigation, which matters for planning.

Design Technology

HL and SL

The design cycle shares its evaluation habits with the Physics investigation, and students doing both get a genuine advantage in criterion D. The risk is the opposite one: a Physics investigation written as a design project loses marks for having no measurable research question.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Mechanics content overlaps with Physics theme A more than most students expect, particularly around forces, moments and energy transfer. Where a student is taking it instead of Physics, we teach the mechanics directly rather than treating it as applied biology.

Environmental Systems and Societies

HL and SL

Energy flow, efficiency and thermodynamics appear here in a form Physics students recognise immediately. ESS is often chosen as the second science by a Physics HL student, and the quantitative sections are where a Physics tutor is useful to an ESS grade.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The natural sciences area of knowledge is far easier to write about with a worked Physics example in hand than from the textbook treatment. We use the student's own investigation as the case study, which is legitimate and makes the TOK exhibition specific rather than abstract.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics support divides into four honest shapes. Which one you need depends far more on where your child sits in the two-year Diploma than on which part of Al Barsha South you live in.

Weekly one-to-one, online

A fixed slot each week with the same specialist, running alongside the school's scheme of work. This is what most DP1 Physics students need: enough contact to keep the current theme solid, not enough to become a parallel course. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes and the 90 is usually right once past-paper work starts.

  • Same tutor every week, so the diagnosis carries forward
  • Timed to Gulf Standard Time around the Al Barsha South school run
  • Shared screen for working, so you can see the method, not just the answer
  • Session notes after each lesson naming what was fixed and what is next

Paper-focused sprint block

A short, dense block aimed at one paper rather than the whole subject. Paper 1 blocks are built around timed multiple-choice sets and the data-analysis section; Paper 2 blocks are built around extended-response structure and the command terms. This is the right shape for a DP2 student eight to twelve weeks out from the May session.

  • Two sessions a week for a fixed number of weeks, then it stops
  • Every session ends with a timed set marked against the real mark scheme
  • Command-term drilling: explain, deduce, determine, suggest
  • Error log carried forward so the same mistake is not re-taught

Investigation supervision

Support on the scientific investigation that stays on the right side of the academic-honesty line. The tutor teaches research design, uncertainty treatment and how the four criteria are actually awarded, reviews the student's own drafts and gives feedback. The tutor does not supply a research question, produce data, or write any part of the report.

  • Research-question scoping against what can actually be measured
  • Uncertainty propagation taught once, properly, rather than patched
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, criterion by criterion
  • A written record of what was advised, which the school can see

MYP to DP bridge

A summer or first-term block for students moving from MYP 5 or IGCSE into DP Physics. It targets the three things that reliably break in DP1: algebraic rearrangement under time pressure, the difference between describe and explain, and uncertainty as a habit rather than a formula to recall.

  • Diagnostic on rearrangement, graphs and units before anything is taught
  • The DP1 content the school will cover in term one, pre-loaded
  • Investigation criteria introduced before the first real one is set
  • Runs through July and August when Dubai schools are closed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Barsha South

01

What a search for an IB Physics tutor in Al Barsha South is actually asking

A parent in Al Barsha South typing this phrase is asking two questions at once, and only one of them is about Physics. The first is whether a competent DP Physics specialist can be found who will work with their child. The second, usually unspoken, is whether living in Al Barsha South rather than Al Barsha 1, Dubai Marina or Emirates Hills puts them at a disadvantage. The answer to the first is yes. The answer to the second is that it did, until delivery stopped being geographic.

Here is the concrete version of that. The in-home tutoring market in Dubai works on a radius. A tutor advertising DP Physics HL will cover the districts they can reach inside roughly half an hour, because an hour of unpaid driving around a 60-minute lesson makes the economics impossible otherwise. Al Barsha South sits behind a motorway interchange and the inbound traffic at 5pm is the worst part of the day. The practical result is a thinner list of people willing to come, and a higher quoted rate from the ones who are.

Online delivery removes the radius entirely, and that is a bigger change than it sounds for a subject as specialised as Physics. The constraint on Physics tutoring is not supply of tutors in general; it is supply of tutors who have taught theme D at HL often enough to know where students lose the marks. That person might be anywhere. Matching on syllabus experience rather than driving distance is the single most useful thing this format does, and it applies identically to a family in Al Barsha South 2 and a family in JLT.

So the honest framing of this page is not that Al Barsha South is special. It is that the comparison between Al Barsha South and the district next door, which is the comparison most parents here are running, stops being a factor once the lesson happens over video. What remains worth comparing is school end times, which school each pocket feeds, and when a session can realistically start. Those are real differences and the next section sets them out.

02

Al Barsha South against the districts either side of it

This is the table nobody publishes, because publishing it concedes that the differences between Dubai districts are mostly logistical. Set side by side, Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Heights and the Emirates Hills cluster differ on commute, school pool and when an evening session can start. They do not differ on syllabus, assessment, grade boundaries or anything else that determines a Physics grade.

Read the last column first. Every row ends in the same place: it changes the scheduling conversation and nothing about the teaching. A student in Al Barsha South 4 who cannot start before 5.15pm needs a later slot than a student in Al Barsha Heights who walks home. Both need the same work on uncertainty propagation and the same number of timed Paper 1 sets before May.

The one row worth dwelling on is tutor pool. In-home coverage genuinely varies between these districts, and it varies most for the narrowest subjects. A family wanting general maths support will find someone locally in any of them. A family wanting Physics HL with real theme D experience will find the list short in all three, and shortest in whichever district is furthest from where tutors actually live. That asymmetry is the one the online format erases, which is why the comparison ends in a draw.

If you are weighing a school move between these clusters, weigh it on the school: Physics HL availability, how many students the department runs, whether the investigation is scheduled early or late in DP1, and what KHDA's current inspection report says. Those are the differences that reach the grade. Driving time to a tutor is not one of them any more.

03

IB Physics assessment structure, and what each component actually rewards

Most pages selling Physics tutoring describe the subject as challenging and stop there. The useful version names the components, their weightings and what each one tests, because a student losing marks in Paper 1 needs completely different work from a student losing them in the investigation. Physics at both levels is assessed by Paper 1, Paper 2 and the scientific investigation, weighted 36%, 44% and 20%.

Paper 1 is the component families underestimate. It divides into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section, and those two halves reward opposite habits. Multiple-choice punishes slow, full working; data analysis punishes fast, pattern-matched answers. A student who has only practised Paper 2-style extended questions arrives at Paper 1 able to do the physics and unable to do the paper. That is a technique problem and it is fixable in weeks.

Paper 2 is where the five themes are tested in extended response, and where command terms decide the mark. Explain, deduce, determine, suggest and state ask for structurally different answers, and the mark scheme awards the structure as much as the content. A student who writes a correct paragraph in answer to determine has not answered the question. This is the most reliable source of recoverable marks we see in DP2.

The investigation carries a fifth of the grade on a report capped at 3,000 words and marked on four criteria of six marks each. It is the only component where a student controls the conditions entirely, and the only one where a careless research question limits the ceiling before a single measurement is taken. Treating it as coursework to be completed rather than a designed experiment is the single most expensive mistake available in DP Physics.

Where IB Physics marks are lost, theme by theme

  • Theme A: vectors handled as scalars; relative motion; energy accounting with no system defined
  • Theme B: heat versus temperature; sign conventions; ideal gas assumptions applied where they fail
  • Theme C: phase and path difference; standing-wave boundary conditions; superposition sketched not reasoned
  • Theme D: gravitational and electric fields learned as unrelated topics, so transfer questions fail
  • Theme E: mass defect versus mass number; half-life questions attempted arithmetically rather than exponentially
  • Everywhere: missing units, missing direction, and the wrong command term answered confidently

Physics marks do not leak evenly. They cluster, and they cluster in the same places across every school in Dubai we have worked with. Knowing the cluster matters because it converts a vague instinct that a child is struggling with Physics into a short list of fixable things, which is what a first diagnostic lesson is for.

In theme A, the loss is almost always vectors treated as numbers. A student who can quote that momentum is conserved but cannot handle a two-dimensional collision has a vector problem, not a momentum problem. In theme B, it is the difference between heat and temperature, and the sign conventions in the first law. Students who can recite the equations lose marks because they cannot say which way energy moved.

Theme C punishes imprecision about phase and path difference, and standing waves are where that becomes visible. Theme D, fields, is the reliable HL killer: gravitational and electric fields are taught weeks apart, learned as separate formula sets, and never connected, so any question that transfers between them finds the gap. Theme E loses marks on decay and binding energy because students work with mass numbers instead of mass defect.

Across all five, two habits cost more than any content gap. The first is omitting units and direction, which the mark scheme penalises without mercy. The second is answering the command term the student wishes had been asked. Both are trainable, both are fast to train, and both are why a student who understands the physics can still sit at a 4. We start there because it is the quickest honest gain available.

05

What Physics tutoring costs in this part of Dubai, with the sources

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families begin and where most of the disappointment happens. A university-student tutor working online is advertised in Dubai from around AED 45 to AED 65 an hour by EdFlik, and Tutopiya's published rates start lower again at roughly AED 33 to AED 52. At that level you are buying homework supervision. For DP Physics HL specifically, that is not what is needed, and families who try it usually pay twice.

Move up one tier and the figures change shape. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 and IB tutoring from AED 200 an hour, which is the honest band for a qualified subject tutor working online. TutorChase quotes around AED 270. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level support at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and BartyED sits at the top of the visible market at AED 650 for premium named tutors. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this search publish no price at all.

The in-home column is the one worth reading carefully, because it is where the travel premium becomes visible. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to AED 500. The gap between the online and in-home band for the same tutor quality is not a quality difference. It is the drive to Al Barsha South, priced in. Monthly packages seen in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

None of those are IB Gram's prices and none of them are quoted as ours. They are the market, cited so you can check them yourself against the same pages we read. What a parent should take from the table is the shape rather than any single number: the jump from budget to qualified is large and worth paying, the jump from qualified to premium is smaller and much more dependent on the individual, and the in-home premium buys travel rather than teaching.

Online against a tutor driving to Al Barsha South, compared honestly

A fair comparison has to concede what in-home tutoring genuinely does better. A tutor in the room can see a student's page without asking, can hand them a paper and watch them start, and removes any argument about whether the camera is on. For a younger child who needs a physical presence to stay on task, that is a real advantage and no amount of video quality replaces it. Saying otherwise would be dishonest.

What it costs is visible in the previous table. The in-home band sits AED 100 to AED 200 above the online band for comparable experience, and Al Barsha South is on the expensive side of that spread because of the interchange traffic. Beyond the rate, the hidden cost is cancellation: a tutor stuck on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at 5pm loses the session, not half of it, and in DP2 a lost week before the May session is not recoverable by doubling up later.

The decisive factor for Physics specifically is the tutor pool. In-home restricts you to specialists within driving range of Al Barsha South who happen to have a free slot at 5pm. For Physics HL with real theme D depth, that list is short in every Dubai district, and short lists mean you take availability over fit. Online, the filter is syllabus experience, which is the filter that actually predicts whether a student's uncertainty work improves.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE, so this is not a comparison we are pretending to be neutral about, and you should read it knowing that. Our home-visiting service operates only in India. What we will do is set out the trade-off with the numbers attached, point you at the market rates so you can check them, and let a family in Al Barsha South who genuinely needs someone in the room go and find that person locally.

The Physics investigation: what a tutor may do, and what would be malpractice

  • Legitimate: teaching research design, uncertainty treatment, criterion structure, graphing conventions
  • Legitimate: feedback on the student's own draft, naming which criterion is weak and why
  • Not legitimate: supplying the research question or the data set
  • Not legitimate: rewriting, editing to completion, or producing any section of the report
  • Ask for the session record - a tutor who keeps one has already thought about this line

The scientific investigation is worth a fifth of the Physics grade and it is the component where outside help goes wrong most often. The IB's academic-honesty rules make the student the author of the work, and a breach is an expulsion risk for the student rather than an inconvenience for the tutor. So the boundary needs stating in plain terms before any investigation support begins, not after.

What a tutor can legitimately do is teach. That means teaching how a research question becomes measurable, teaching uncertainty propagation properly rather than as a formula to be recalled, explaining how the four criteria are awarded and what the six marks inside each are actually for, reviewing the student's own draft and giving feedback that names the criterion. All of that is teaching and all of it is normal practice between a student and any teacher.

What a tutor must not do is author. A tutor does not supply the research question, does not generate or adjust data, does not rewrite the student's prose into their own, and does not produce any part of the report. One competitor in this search sells completed Internal Assessments outright at a published price. That is not a cheaper version of tutoring; it is the thing that gets a diploma withheld, and no page on this site will offer it.

The practical test we apply is simple and you can apply it too. If the tutor's contribution can be described to the school's IB coordinator without anyone being embarrassed, it was teaching. We keep a written record of what was advised in each investigation session for exactly that reason. Ask any tutor you are considering what their record-keeping looks like; the answer tells you where they think the line is.

08

The mandatory UAE subjects sitting alongside Physics

A Physics-focused page has to mention something that no competitor page in this search does: your child's Diploma is not the whole timetable. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's own guidance states its requirements must be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Those lessons take hours out of the same week Physics needs.

The organisational rules are specific, and they explain timetable decisions parents often find puzzling. For Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, KHDA requires schools to organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and states that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic is required as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language.

KHDA also sets the instructional time, calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, with schools permitted to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met and with the advice that any mandatory-subject lesson runs at least 25 minutes. It further requires that teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate KHDA approval to teach those subjects. That is a credential question you are entitled to ask your school directly.

Why this belongs on a Physics page: when a DP1 student is drowning, the first instinct is to add Physics hours. Often the actual problem is that Arabic and Social Studies homework is eating the two evenings Physics needed, and the fix is sequencing rather than more tuition. We would rather say that than sell you a second weekly slot. One more constraint worth knowing: for the mandatory UAE subjects, use of different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, so these are not subjects where a tutor can substitute their own material.

KHDA, your school's inspection report, and what it tells a Physics parent

Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah has SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. For a family in Al Barsha South, KHDA is the only one that matters, and its inspection reports are public.

An inspection report is more useful to a Physics parent than a school's own marketing, because it reports on teaching and assessment at each phase rather than on the school overall. A school can carry a strong headline band while the secondary science provision is the weakest thing in the report. Read the phase-level judgements and the section on students' attainment and progress in science specifically, then read what the inspectors said should improve.

The scale and context are worth knowing too. Dubai's private school sector held 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, and the enrolment split by curriculum ran UK 37%, Indian 26%, US 14% and International Baccalaureate 7%. That last figure explains something families in Al Barsha South notice: IB Diploma provision is a minority of a very large market, which is why Physics HL groups can be small and why specialist availability inside one district is unreliable.

Two further pieces of context for anyone budgeting. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for Dubai private schools for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package. And the 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. More IB places in the pipeline is good news for this area.

If no Physics specialist is free: the honest version of availability

  • Weekend morning slots are often better for Physics than a 6pm weekday session
  • A Maths AA HL specialist is a real fit for mechanics work and a poor one for nuclear and quantum
  • If the wait is two weeks, we say two weeks rather than filling the slot with anyone
  • Use the school's own science clinics first; they are already paid for

Every tutoring page in this search implies unlimited instant availability. None of them discloses what happens when a specific subject at a specific level is not covered, which is the moment a parent most needs to be told the truth. Physics HL is one of the narrower requests in the UAE market, and a week in which no suitable specialist has a 5pm slot is a normal week, not a failure.

What we do in that case is say so and offer the alternatives. Sometimes the answer is a different slot, including a weekend morning, which for Physics is often better than a tired weekday evening anyway. Sometimes it is a tutor whose primary subject is Maths AA HL with strong Physics coverage, which is a genuine fit for theme A and mechanics work and an honest mismatch for theme E. Sometimes it is a wait of a week or two, with the school's own department clinics in the meantime.

What we will not do is put a general science tutor in front of a Physics HL student and let you find out in a month. The cost of that is not the wasted fees; it is the month. In DP2 a month is a measurable fraction of what is left before the May session, and recovering it means doubling session frequency at exactly the point a student has least capacity. Disclosing a gap up front is cheaper for everyone.

This is also why the free trial exists in the shape it does. One lesson, no card details, and the tutor tells you afterwards what they found and whether they are the right person. A tutor saying they are not the right fit for a particular student is useful information, and a platform that never produces that answer is not screening anybody.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Barsha South

Al Barsha South is not one place. It is five numbered sub-communities plus the developments that press against it, and the practical difference between them is a matter of minutes on the school run and which gate the bus uses. These are the pockets we most often schedule around.

Al Barsha South 1 and 2

Villa and townhouse stock closest to Hessa Street, with school access northwards towards Al Barsha 1. A 4pm session is realistic here; a 3.30pm one usually is not, because the bus run has not finished.

Al Barsha South 3

Compounds and low-rise apartments bordering Dubai Science Park. Families here often have one child at a school inside Al Barsha South and one at a school in Al Sufouh, which splits the evening into two different windows.

Al Barsha South 4 and 5

Closer to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the Me'aisem side. Good access outbound, slower coming back in at 5pm, which is the single most common reason a weekday session gets rescheduled.

Dubai Science Park

Apartment towers with a working-parent profile, so sessions skew later: 7pm and 8pm slots fill first here. Useful for Physics, because a tired 4pm student does not do uncertainty work well anyway.

Arjan

Dense apartment development immediately south, with a younger family profile and more MYP than DP demand. Physics support here is more often MYP 4 and 5 preparing for the SL or HL choice than exam-year work.

Al Barsha Heights and TECOM

Apartment district on the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road, ten minutes north in clear traffic and closer to twenty-five at 5pm. Shares the same school pool as Al Barsha South, which is why the two areas are usually compared.

Jumeirah Village Circle and Triangle

Directly adjacent and often treated by families as the same catchment. Several Al Barsha South school buses run JVC routes, so the end-of-day timing is close enough to plan identically.

Al Barsha 1 and Al Sufouh

The older cluster to the north holding several of the IB Diploma schools this area feeds into. A ten to fifteen minute drive out, long enough that an in-home tutor based there prices the trip in.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Barsha South

Al Barsha South and Al Barsha Heights

The schools inside or immediately beside Al Barsha South are predominantly British curriculum, which is why the DP Physics demand from this area often arrives from a student who sat IGCSE Physics rather than MYP Sciences. Check each school's current curriculum and inspection band on KHDA's own school pages, because both change.

  • GEMS Founders School - Al Barsha South
  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • American School of Creative Science - Al Barsha

Al Barsha 1 and Al Sufouh

The cluster ten minutes north carries most of the IB Diploma provision this area draws on, so a family in Al Barsha South comparing districts is usually comparing a school here with one closer to home. Physics HL availability differs between them and is worth asking about directly.

  • Al Mawakeb School - Al Barsha

Emirates Hills, The Greens and The Meadows

The next cluster west, and the one Al Barsha South families most often mention when they ask whether tutors are better in another district. It holds long-established Diploma schools, and students from all three clusters sit the same Physics papers in May.

  • Dubai International Academy - Emirates Hills
  • Dubai British School - Emirates Hills
  • Regent International School
  • Emirates International School - Meadows

Schools are named here as context for the Al Barsha South education market only. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, the IB organisation, Cambridge International, Pearson or KHDA.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the three things that actually help

Your child's current Physics level and set, the most recent mark breakdown by paper rather than the overall grade, and the school's scheme of work for this term. The mark breakdown is the one that matters. A 4 built on a strong Paper 2 and a collapsed Paper 1 needs different work from a 4 built the other way round.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, no card taken

One full session with a Physics specialist, online, at a time that works around the Al Barsha South school run. It is a working lesson, not a sales call: the tutor teaches something and then reports what they found. No payment details are collected to book it, and there is nothing to cancel if you stop there.

  3. 03

    A diagnosis you can read

After the trial you get a short written note naming what is wrong in specific terms: vectors treated as scalars, command terms misread, uncertainties bolted on at the end. Vague feedback about confidence is not a diagnosis. If the tutor cannot name the problem in syllabus language, that is a signal about the tutor.

  4. 04

A weekly plan tied to the school's calendar

Sessions are scheduled against what the school is teaching and when its assessments and investigation deadlines fall, not against a generic course sequence. For DP2 that means counting backwards from the May session and deciding how many timed Paper 1 sets have to be marked before it.

  5. 05

Session notes and a review point

Each lesson ends with notes naming what was fixed and what is next, so you are not relying on your child's summary. Every six to eight weeks there is a deliberate review: is this working, should the frequency change, is the same tutor still the right fit. Changing tutor at that point is a normal outcome, not a complaint.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on theme experience, not driving distance

The filter is whether the tutor has taught the content your child is losing marks on, at the level they are sitting it. For Physics HL that usually means asking directly about theme D and the HL extension material, because those are the places a generalist runs out of depth and an online match is what makes the question answerable.

Prices on the page, attributed to their source

Three of the six strongest pages in this search publish no rate at all, and two quote in US dollars. This page publishes the Dubai market in AED with each figure attached to the company that published it, so you can check us. Those are market rates and not our price list, which is a distinction we state rather than blur.

The academic-honesty line stated before the work starts

Investigation support is teaching, feedback and process coaching on the student's own work. A tutor working with us does not supply a research question, generate data or produce any part of a report, and keeps a record of what was advised so the school can see it. The alternative is a risk carried by the student, not the tutor.

Permit status is a question we expect you to ask

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on the MoHRE private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years according to u.ae, and applied for through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service. We would rather you asked every tutor you consider, including ours, than assumed it does not apply.

Availability disclosed rather than implied

When no Physics specialist has a suitable slot, you are told that and offered a real alternative: a different time, a partial-fit tutor with the mismatch named, or a wait. No competitor page in this search discloses a coverage limit, which is why families discover them a month into paying.

Independent, which means we can say what does not need buying

IB Gram has no affiliation with any school, school group or examination board, so there is nothing to protect by overselling. On this page that produces advice against its own interest more than once: use the school's science clinics first, and if your child needs somebody physically in the room, hire locally.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barsha South: your questions answered

Is it harder to find an IB Physics tutor in Al Barsha South than in Dubai Marina?+

For in-home tutoring, slightly, and for one reason: Al Barsha South sits behind a motorway interchange that is slow inbound at 5pm, so fewer tutors will make the trip and those who do price it in. The pool is thin for Physics HL in both districts, because theme-level specialists are scarce across Dubai rather than concentrated anywhere. Online, the difference disappears entirely, since the match is made on syllabus experience rather than driving range. If you are comparing the two districts for a school move, compare the schools' Physics HL provision instead.

My child is at a British-curriculum school in Al Barsha South and moving into IB Physics. What breaks first?+

Three things, predictably. Algebraic rearrangement under time pressure, because IGCSE Physics rewards recall more heavily than DP does. Uncertainties, which IGCSE touches and DP treats as a habit running through every piece of practical work. And the gap between describe and explain, because DP command terms are enforced in the mark scheme in a way IGCSE ones often are not. A bridge block over the summer that drills rearrangement, graph interpretation and the four investigation criteria before the first real one is set removes most of that first-term shock.

How much of the IB Physics grade is the scientific investigation, and can a tutor help with it?+

The investigation is 20% of the grade at both SL and HL, reported in up to 3,000 words and marked on four criteria of six marks each. A tutor can teach research design, uncertainty propagation and how the criteria are awarded, and can give feedback on your child's own draft naming which criterion is weak. A tutor cannot supply the research question, generate the data, or produce any part of the report. That boundary is set by the IB's academic-honesty rules and breaching it puts the student's diploma at risk, not the tutor's business.

What do Physics tutors charge per hour in this part of Dubai?+

The published Dubai market spreads widely. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from around AED 33 to 52 at the budget end. Unitors lists IB tutoring from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. TutorChase quotes about AED 270, Bestimate's 2026 table puts specialist support at AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED sits at AED 650. In-home visits are quoted AED 180 to 500 because travel is inside the rate. Those are other companies' published figures, not ours; check them at source.

Why is Physics HL theme D such a common problem for Dubai students?+

Because gravitational fields and electric fields are usually taught weeks apart, learned as two separate formula sets, and never explicitly connected. The syllabus treats fields as one idea with different sources; students treat them as two chapters. Any exam question that transfers reasoning from one to the other then finds the gap instantly, and because theme D sits late in most schemes of work it gets taught under time pressure in DP2. The fix is one or two sessions building the shared structure deliberately, before past-paper work rather than after it.

Can my child start Physics tutoring eight weeks before the May session?+

Yes, and the shape of it should be different from year-round support. Eight weeks is not enough to re-teach five themes, so the work becomes triage: find the two themes carrying the most recoverable marks, fix command-term technique across Paper 2, and run timed Paper 1 sets with the data-analysis section practised separately from the multiple choice. Expect two sessions a week rather than one. What we will not do is tell you a grade this produces, because nobody honest can, and anyone offering a figure is selling something else.

Do tutors come to homes in Al Barsha South?+

Not through IB Gram. Our tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one online over live video, and we do not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Independent tutors and local agencies in Dubai do offer it, quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the rate. If your child genuinely needs somebody in the room to stay on task, that is a real need and hiring locally is the right answer. For DP Physics, where theme-level fit matters more, we think online wins on merit.

What time can a weekday session realistically start if we live in Al Barsha South 4?+

Around 4.15pm at the earliest, and often 4.45pm once the bus run from schools in Al Barsha 1 or Al Sufouh is counted. South 4 and 5 sit closer to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, so inbound traffic at 5pm is the main variable. Many families here settle on a 6pm or 7pm slot instead, and for Physics that is usually better: uncertainty work and extended-response practice are poor use of a tired student. Weekend mornings are the other option and they are the most productive slots we schedule.

Does my child need a permit-holding tutor, and how would I check?+

Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. According to u.ae it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, is the official route. Ask any tutor directly. Operating without a permit carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published.

Which schools near Al Barsha South would a Physics student typically attend?+

Inside or beside Al Barsha South the schools are mostly British curriculum, including Nord Anglia International School Dubai, GEMS Founders School - Al Barsha South, Safa Community School, Dubai Heights Academy and Kings' School Al Barsha. The IB Diploma provision this area feeds into sits largely in Al Barsha 1 and Al Sufouh, at schools such as Dubai American Academy and GEMS World Academy - Dubai. We name these as market context only; IB Gram has no affiliation with or endorsement from any of them, and curriculum offerings change, so check with the school.

Is online Physics tutoring actually workable for practical and data skills?+

For data skills, yes, and arguably better: the entire Paper 1B skill set is reading an unseen data set, plotting it correctly, and interpreting gradient and intercept, which is screen work. Uncertainty propagation is the same. What online cannot do is replace the student's own hands-on practical sessions at school, and it should not try. The tutor's job around the investigation is design, treatment of uncertainty and criterion-level feedback on the student's own write-up. The measurements stay the student's, taken in their school laboratory under their teacher's supervision.

How many Physics sessions a week do Al Barsha South families usually start with?+

One, almost always, and that is the right number for DP1. A single 60 or 90-minute weekly slot keeps the current theme solid without becoming a parallel course that competes with school homework and the mandatory Arabic and Social Studies lessons. Frequency goes up in two situations: an investigation in progress, where a short block of extra sessions is better than a permanently higher rate, and the final eight to twelve weeks before the May session. We review frequency every six to eight weeks rather than leaving it to drift.

What should I read in my school's KHDA inspection report if I care about Physics?+

Skip the headline band and go to the phase-level judgements for secondary and post-16, then find the attainment and progress judgements for science specifically. A school can hold a strong overall band while secondary science is the weakest area in the report. Read the recommendations section too, because that is where inspectors name what the school was told to fix. KHDA publishes these, and u.ae describes KHDA as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. It is free and more candid than any prospectus.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education lessons really affect how much Physics tutoring we need?+

More than most families expect. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the international curriculum licensed, with KHDA requiring implementation from the start of the 2025-26 academic year and setting instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit. That is real homework in real evenings. When a DP1 student is overloaded, the fix is often sequencing the week rather than adding Physics hours, and we would rather tell you that than sell a second slot.

What happens if the first Physics tutor is not the right match?+

You say so and we change them, and the review point every six to eight weeks exists partly to make that conversation routine rather than awkward. A tutor who reports after a trial that they are not the right person for a particular student is doing their job, not failing it. The mismatch that matters most in Physics is level and theme depth: somebody strong at SL mechanics can be genuinely out of their depth on HL nuclear and quantum content, and finding that out in week two costs you a week rather than a term.

Can one tutor cover Physics and Maths AA for the same student?+

Sometimes, and when it works it works well, because the calculus in AA HL is what makes rates of change in Physics theme A feel natural. The combination to be careful about is the reverse: a Maths specialist covering Physics HL will usually be solid through themes A and B and thinner on D and E. We will name that mismatch rather than let it surface in April. If the student needs both subjects at HL, two specialists is normally the better arrangement, scheduled on different evenings.

Start with one lesson and a real diagnosis

If your child is sitting IB Physics at a school this part of Dubai feeds, the next useful step is small: send the most recent mark breakdown by paper and book a free trial lesson. No card details are taken to arrange it. A Physics specialist teaches a full session online at a time that fits the Al Barsha South school run, then writes you a short note naming what is actually wrong in syllabus terms rather than in generalities about confidence. If the diagnosis is that school science clinics would fix it, we will say so. If it is theme D and command terms, you will know that within a week instead of in April.
