IB Home Tutor in Al Twar

Searching for an IB home tutor in Al Twar is usually a budget decision disguised as a logistics one. Published in-home rates in Dubai run from AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure, and monthly in-home packages are advertised at AED 1,599 to 1,799. This page sets out what Al Twar families actually pay, what the premium buys and where the money disappears. IB Gram delivers that tuition one-to-one over live video instead, and the comparison table makes the case.

IB & IGCSE in Al Twar

What does an IB home tutor in Al Twar really cost over a year?

Think in months rather than hours, because that is how the bill arrives. The Dubai market advertises in-home packages of four two-hour sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month, and online packages of eight sessions at around AED 799. Bestimate's 2026 rate survey puts monthly spend on a weekly one-hour session at roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. For a Diploma student taking two subjects seriously through DP2, the realistic annual figure in this market sits in the tens of thousands of dirhams, and almost nobody plans it as an annual figure.

That matters in Al Twar specifically, because this is a villa district with household budgets already committed to school fees, and the tutoring line tends to accumulate by the hour rather than get decided once. A family that agrees to two hours a week at AED 250 in September has committed roughly AED 2,000 a month without ever seeing the number written down. The same budget, planned deliberately, buys a different and usually better shape: fewer, sharper hours on the subjects where marks actually move, plus a dated block before mocks.

The second thing worth knowing is where the in-home premium comes from. It is not a quality premium. A tutor driving to Al Twar from anywhere in central Dubai spends forty to sixty minutes in the car across an evening peak, and that time is paid for inside the hourly rate whether it appears as a line item or not. Published figures make the gap visible: Bestimate quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500, against qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300. The difference is logistics, not teaching.

There is a third cost that never appears on an invoice: the restriction of the tutor pool. An in-home arrangement in Al Twar can only use tutors willing to drive to Al Twar at 6pm. For a Standard Level subject with plenty of supply that is a minor constraint. For Higher Level physics, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or an Extended Essay supervisor in a specific subject, it can mean paying a premium rate for the only person available rather than the right person. That is the most expensive mistake in this market and it is invisible on the receipt.

So the honest position. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Diploma and MYP tuition for an Al Twar family is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the reason we make that trade is the one above: dropping the travel requirement removes the premium and removes the pool restriction at the same time. The free trial lesson lets you test whether the format works for your child before any money moves.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What you should spend depends on where your child is in the programme, because the cost per useful hour is not constant across the five years. These are the four stages and what each one justifies.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. Assessment is by written papers with an internal assessment component in most subjects. This is the stage where specialist rates are genuinely justified, because the subject knowledge required is narrow and deep.

For an Al Twar family the Diploma is a two-year spending decision rather than a monthly one. The highest-value expenditure clusters in two places: the first term of DP1, where a weak foundation becomes permanent if left, and the internal assessment window in DP1 summer into DP2 autumn.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight. Marks are lost in criterion profiles rather than in content, which means the useful tutor at this stage is the one who has read a descriptor, not necessarily the most expensive one available.

This is where Al Twar families most often overspend, buying Diploma-priced specialists for MYP 3 work. A mid-band tutor who has genuinely marked MYP tasks is worth more here than a premium Diploma tutor who has not, which is an unusual thing for a tutoring page to say.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary education organised around transdisciplinary themes. Formal subject tutoring is rarely the right purchase here; where support helps, it is usually in reading fluency, number confidence or English as an additional language.

Budget-tier rates are entirely adequate for this work, and in Al Twar it is also the stage where in-home arrangements make most practical sense, because a young child needs supervision as well as teaching. That is a service we run in India rather than in the UAE.

CoreAges 16-19

The Diploma core: TOK, EE and CAS

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. The Extended Essay is a supervised 4,000-word research essay and TOK carries an exhibition and an essay. Both reward process coaching heavily and neither rewards content teaching much at all.

Families underspend here and then panic. A small number of well-timed sessions on narrowing an Extended Essay question is among the cheapest high-value purchases in the whole Diploma, and supervision means questioning and feedback on the student's own work, never producing it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every subject repays the same rate. These are the ones Al Twar families ask for, with an honest note on where the money works hardest in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The highest-demand subject in this district and the one where specialist rates pay off soonest. Higher Level proof and calculus are where students fall behind irrecoverably if the first term of DP1 is left unaddressed.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistically weighted, with a strong technology component. Often better value to tutor than Analysis and Approaches, because the marks lost are usually in interpretation and presentation rather than in deep technique.

Physics

HL and SL

Few facts, heavy technique. Most lost marks trace to unit handling, to rearranging an equation after substituting, and to skipping the diagram. All three are cheap to fix and expensive to ignore.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics sign conventions, equilibrium reasoning and organic mechanisms absorb the hours. The Scientific Investigation carries about a fifth of the grade and is the component families resource last.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy and easy to revise inefficiently. The best return comes from data-based question practice rather than from re-reading notes, which is also the cheapest intervention available.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline and the internal assessment commentaries drive the grade. A handful of sessions on labelling and justifying a shift is worth more than a term of content review.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-driven and heavily dependent on applying tools to an unseen context. Students lose marks by describing a framework rather than using it, which is a technique fix rather than a knowledge one.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay and the individual oral. The individual oral is routinely under-prepared and is one of the best-value targets for a short block of sessions.

Arabic B

HL, SL and ab initio

Receptive, productive and interactive components each need separate practice. Families often buy generic Arabic tutoring when the gap is specifically in the interactive assessment.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

The exhibition and the essay. Three or four sessions on framing a knowledge question properly tend to outperform a term of discussion, which makes it unusually cheap to support well.

Extended Essay

Core · 4,000 words

Supervision is coaching on the student's own research. The single highest-value hour in the Diploma is the one that narrows an unanswerable question into an answerable one, and it comes early or not at all.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a developed solution, and scoping it realistically is where tutoring earns its fee. Over-ambitious projects are the standard failure and they cost a grade.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy Diploma support, with the cost consequence of each stated plainly. All three are delivered over live video.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

A single fixed hour a week in the subject that is actually costing grades. The cheapest arrangement that reliably changes an outcome, because the learning happens in the week between sessions and one hour leaves room for it to happen.

  • One subject, one tutor, one slot held through the term
  • Written notes after each session so revision has a source
  • Reviewed at the mock window rather than rolling indefinitely
  • Tutor changed at no cost if the match is wrong

A dated block before a specific assessment

Eight to twelve sessions scoped against a date: the mock window, an internal assessment deadline, or the final weeks before the examination series. Fixed scope, fixed end, and an honest statement at the outset of what is recoverable in the time.

  • Priced and scoped before it starts, not open-ended
  • Aimed at one paper or one component, not the whole subject
  • Ends on the agreed date unless you choose to extend
  • Usually better value than a year of low-intensity support

Core support: Extended Essay and TOK

A small number of sessions at the points where the core actually turns: narrowing an Extended Essay question, structuring a TOK essay around a workable knowledge question, and feedback on the student's own drafts. Low total cost, disproportionate effect.

  • The question narrowed until it is answerable
  • Feedback on the student's own writing, never text supplied
  • Scheduled against the school's internal deadlines
  • The academic-honesty boundary stated at the first session

01

What Al Twar families pay per month, and for what

Monthly is the unit that makes sense, because it is the unit a household budget uses. The advertised packages in this market are clear enough to compare directly: around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, against AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Those two numbers buy the same total contact time in very different shapes, and they differ by roughly a factor of two in price. The in-home figure includes the tutor's travel across Dubai twice a week; the online figure does not include travel because there is none.

Underneath the packages, Bestimate's 2026 survey gives monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session: roughly AED 240 to 600 for budget tutoring, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. A Diploma student in DP2 taking two subjects at the specialist band is therefore looking at somewhere between AED 2,000 and 4,000 a month on tutoring alone, which is a figure worth seeing in writing before the term starts rather than discovering in February.

The shape matters as much as the total. Eight shorter contact points across a month give a tutor eight chances to catch an error early; four long ones give four. In subjects where the learning happens in between, through practice, frequent shorter sessions outperform fewer longer ones at the same spend. The exception is coursework work, such as an internal assessment or an Extended Essay draft, where a longer uninterrupted block genuinely helps.

The table sets out the comparison as a monthly decision. Every figure is a published market rate attributed to its source and read in October 2026. IB Gram does not publish an hourly price list on these pages; the trial lesson is free and the consultation sets out what a plan would cost for your child's specific subjects before you commit to anything.

02

What the travel premium buys, and what it quietly costs

The in-home premium is real and it is measurable. Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 350 according to Bestimate, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500. Qualified online subject tutors over the same period are published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. The gap between those bands is the cost of a car in Dubai traffic, paid by the hour, and in Al Twar it is not a small journey: the district sits behind Al Qusais, and a tutor coming from central Dubai at six in the evening is committing well over an hour of driving to deliver one hour of teaching.

What the premium genuinely buys is presence. A tutor in the room can see a seven-year-old stop concentrating, can take a pen out of their hand, and can be supervised by a parent in the next room. For a young child those things matter and are worth paying for. For a sixteen-year-old working through Higher Level calculus on a shared screen, they matter considerably less, and most of what the premium pays for is a benefit the student is not using.

What the premium quietly costs is choice. An in-home arrangement in Al Twar draws from the set of tutors willing to drive to Al Twar on a weekday evening, which is a much smaller set than the set of tutors who teach the subject. For a Standard Level humanity that is fine. For Higher Level physics, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or an Extended Essay supervisor in a specific discipline, the shortlist can collapse to one name, and a shortlist of one is the most expensive thing in tutoring. You end up paying a premium rate for availability rather than for expertise.

This is the whole argument for the online format, and it is an argument about value rather than about convenience. Removing the drive removes the premium and widens the pool in the same move. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. For an Al Twar family the practical effect is that the tutor is selected for teaching the subject at the right level and then scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, rather than selected for geography and hoped to be right.

A two-year Diploma budget, phase by phase

Most families decide tutoring spend monthly and regret it annually. The better approach is to plan the two Diploma years as a whole and distribute the money where it does the most work, because the value of an hour is not constant across the programme. Three phases dominate: the first term of DP1, the internal assessment window from DP1 summer into DP2 autumn, and the final revision run before the examination series.

The first term of DP1 is the highest-value and lowest-spent phase. This is where a weak foundation in a Higher Level subject sets, and where a student who is quietly lost becomes a student who is permanently behind. A single weekly hour in the subject that is going wrong, started in October rather than in March, repeatedly costs less in total than the rescue operation it prevents. Families consistently underspend here because nothing has gone visibly wrong yet.

The internal assessment window is the second. In most subjects the internal assessment carries a meaningful share of the grade, and the work is produced to school deadlines over several months. Supervision here is questioning and feedback on the student's own work. It is also the phase families most often buy in a panic, at the most expensive rate available, in the final fortnight before a deadline, which is both the worst value and the point at which a tutor can legitimately do least.

The final revision run is the third, and it is the one most families already plan for. A dated block of eight to twelve sessions aimed at paper technique rather than content, scoped honestly against what is recoverable, is a defensible purchase. What is not defensible is a year of low-intensity, undirected weekly sessions in five subjects, which is how a household spends AED 40,000 across two years and arrives at the examination series with the same technique problems it started with.

Four ways Al Twar families waste IB tuition money

  • Specialist rates spent on homework supervision
  • Five subjects at low intensity instead of two at useful intensity
  • Emergency internal assessment help, bought too late to be legitimate
  • Diploma-priced tutors for MYP criterion work

The first is paying specialist rates for supervision. A tutor at AED 300 an hour watching a student complete homework they could have completed alone is a babysitting arrangement priced as expertise. If the problem is that the work does not get done, the cheapest honest solution is a budget-tier tutor or a structured study routine, not a Higher Level subject specialist. Separating the two problems, will not and cannot, is the single most useful conversation to have before booking anything.

The second is buying five subjects at once. A Diploma student with six subjects and a household budget tends to end up with four or five low-intensity weekly sessions, none of which produces enough practice between lessons to change anything. The same money concentrated on one or two subjects, with the others left alone, consistently produces more. This is counter-intuitive and it is the advice families push back on hardest.

The third is the late internal assessment panic. A supervisor can do a great deal with an unanswerable research question three months out and very little with a nearly-finished draft three days out, because at that point the only remaining help would cross the academic-honesty line. We will not write, draft or complete any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay, and a service that offers to is selling your child a malpractice risk rather than a rescue. The money spent at that point buys almost nothing legitimate.

The fourth is paying the premium band at MYP level. A tutor priced for Diploma Higher Level work is not automatically better at MYP criterion coaching, and frequently has never marked an MYP task against a descriptor. For an MYP 3 or MYP 4 student the better purchase is a mid-band tutor with real MYP experience. Paying more here buys seniority rather than relevance, and it is the commonest overspend we see in villa districts like Al Twar.

05

Tutoring in the context of an Al Twar education budget

Tutoring is one line in a bigger number, and it is worth placing. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For an Al Twar household that means the largest education line is flat this year, which is precisely the moment to decide the second-largest line deliberately rather than by accumulation.

The wider market context is a sector still growing. Dubai had 387,441 private school students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula in 2024-25, with the UK curriculum accounting for 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian 26 per cent, US 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate 7 per cent. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent. More IB provision means more IB students competing for the same specialist tutors, which is a supply argument for not relying on whoever lives nearby.

Against that, the tutoring decision should be sized honestly. If the household can commit roughly AED 1,000 a month to tutoring, the question is not which subject to spread it across but which single subject will repay it, and the answer is usually the Higher Level subject where the student is furthest from where they need to be. If the figure is AED 3,000, two subjects plus a core block is realistic. Deciding the figure first and the allocation second is the discipline that prevents the February surprise.

The table below puts the lines side by side so a family can see the proportions. Figures for tutoring are published market rates with their sources named; school fee figures vary by school and should be read from the school's own fee schedule, which KHDA requires to be published.

Hidden extras, receipts and what to ask before paying a term up front

  • Per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson
  • Cancellation terms in both directions, in writing
  • Whether materials and marking time are inside the rate
  • Whether the quoted figure is the figure you pay
  • Whether the tutor holds the free two-year MoHRE permit

Several costs in this market do not appear in the headline rate. Ask whether the price is per hour or per lesson, because a fifty-minute lesson billed as an hour is a twenty per cent difference that compounds across a year. Ask what happens to a session cancelled with a day's notice, and what happens when the tutor cancels. Ask whether materials are included or billed, and whether marking time between sessions is charged. Each is a reasonable thing to charge for and an unreasonable thing to discover in month three.

Ask about VAT explicitly, and expect a straight answer about whether a quoted figure includes it. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as settled fact on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's opinion. What any provider can and should tell you is whether the number they quoted you is the number you pay. Get it in writing before the first invoice.

Be cautious about paying a term up front for a discount. The discount is real and so is the risk: the commonest failure in tutoring is a mismatch between tutor and student, and it reveals itself in weeks two to four. A family that has pre-paid twelve sessions will usually persist with a poor match rather than write off the balance, which costs far more than the discount saved. Our arrangement is a free trial lesson first and a change of tutor at no cost if the match is wrong, which addresses the same risk from the other direction.

Finally, ask about the permit, because it is free and therefore a pure honesty test. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own private tutor licensing service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. A tutor who tells you the permit is expensive, optional or unnecessary has told you something checkable and wrong. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so disregard any specific amount you are quoted.

07

What an Al Twar parent can establish free before any money moves

Three free checks will improve the purchase more than any amount of comparing websites. The first is the school. Your child's IB coordinator will confirm the subject levels, the internal assessment deadlines and the mock window, and will often tell you frankly which subject is the real problem. That is the diagnostic information a tutoring plan should be built on, and it costs an email. Families who skip it buy tutoring in the subject the student complains about rather than the subject that is costing the grade.

The second is the regulator. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes inspection outcomes on its own site. If your child attends school across the boundary in Sharjah, the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education there and also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Read ratings from the regulator rather than from an agency page, including this one.

The third is the claim check, and it is the cheapest protection available. Nobody offering you private tutoring in Dubai is accredited, approved or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson to do it. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence issued to training institutes with physical premises, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. IB Gram holds no such accreditation and occupies no UAE premises. If a provider claims regulator approval, ask for the permit number; the request is free and the answer is decisive.

Finally, use the free trial for what it is actually good for. Not for watching a tutor explain something well, which almost all of them can do, but for watching what happens in the thirty seconds after your child gets something wrong. The tutor who asks a question there, rather than re-explaining, is the one worth paying for at any band.

Where we tutor

Al Twar and the districts around it

Al Twar sits inland behind Al Qusais, with the airport to the west and the Sharjah boundary to the north-east. Each neighbour changes the arithmetic of a tutor's drive and therefore of the rate.

Al Twar 1, 2 and 3

Villa housing on a grid of quiet internal roads, with school provision including IB continuum teaching. A tutor driving in from central Dubai at 6pm is looking at a forty-minute journey each way in term time.

Al Qusais

Immediately north, with dense school provision and metro access. The closest point of genuine tutor supply to Al Twar, and the reason some Al Twar families find in-home rates slightly keener than the published upper bands.

Al Nahda

North-east on the Sharjah boundary, apartment-dense and sharing Al Twar's school cluster. Al Twar and Al Nahda students often sit in the same Diploma cohort.

Mirdif

South-east, villa housing with its own school provision. Al Twar families frequently consider Mirdif schools, and tutors serving Mirdif can reach Al Twar without crossing the city.

Al Garhoud

West past the airport, with Diploma provision Al Twar families use. The drive is short in theory and unpredictable in practice, which is exactly the cost the travel premium covers.

Muhaisnah

North-east along the Sharjah road, dense and school-heavy. Shares the evening traffic pattern that makes a 5pm in-home appointment in Al Twar hard to keep.

Dubai Festival City

West towards the creek, with international school provision. A popular alternative school destination for Al Twar households and a different term calendar in some cases.

Al Khawaneej

East, lower density and further out. A tutor who serves Al Khawaneej and Al Twar in one evening is making two long drives, and that shows up in the rate they quote.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Twar

Al Twar, Al Qusais and Al Nahda

The immediate cluster, combining IB continuum provision with a large British and Indian curriculum market. School fees in Dubai were confirmed flat for the 2026-27 academic year, which makes this a sensible year to decide the tutoring line deliberately. Current inspection ratings are published on KHDA's own site.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Decide the monthly figure first

Name the number the household can commit each month before choosing subjects. Allocation after budget produces a sharper plan than budget after allocation, and it prevents the slow accumulation that turns two casual hours a week into AED 2,000 a month unnoticed.

  2. 02

Tell us which subject is actually costing the grade

Ask the IB coordinator rather than guessing. Students report the subject they dislike; coordinators report the subject that is losing marks. Those are frequently different, and tutoring the wrong one is the most expensive error in this market.

We match on subject and level

A tutor who teaches that subject at that level, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with no drive to pay for. If no UAE-based specialist is free for a niche requirement we say so before you book, and tell you what we are offering instead.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson, no card details

A full session at no cost. Use it to watch how the tutor handles the moment your child cannot do something, and to confirm the slot works in practice. If the match is wrong we change the tutor rather than asking you to persist.

  5. 05

    Review at the mock window

Scoped blocks end on their agreed date, and weekly arrangements are reviewed against the school's mocks. We will say when the honest answer is to stop, change subject or change tutor, because an arrangement that rolls on unreviewed is how budgets quietly double.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The travel premium is removed, not re-labelled

Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutors. The gap is a car in evening traffic. Delivering one-to-one over live video removes that cost rather than packaging it differently.

Every figure carries its source

The AED numbers on this page belong to EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase, BartyED and Bestimate's 2026 survey, read in October 2026, and to published market packages. We publish a free trial and a consultation rather than inventing a price list.

The tutor pool is not limited by geography

An in-home arrangement in Al Twar can only use tutors willing to drive to Al Twar at 6pm. For Higher Level physics or a specific Extended Essay discipline that shortlist can collapse to one name, which is the most expensive thing in tutoring.

Spending advice that sometimes says spend less

We will tell you that five low-intensity subjects is worse value than two at useful intensity, that MYP work does not need a premium Diploma tutor, and that late internal assessment panic buying cannot legitimately be fixed with money.

No home visits claimed anywhere in the UAE

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or anywhere else in the country; home tutoring is an India-only service. Saying so plainly is worth more than a page that implies otherwise and disappoints later.

No regulator claims and no UAE centre

IB Gram holds no accreditation, approval or licence from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and operates no premises in the UAE. Regulators are named here to explain what they do.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Twar: your questions answered

How much does an IB home tutor in Al Twar cost per month?+

The market's own advertised figures are the clearest guide. In-home packages of four two-hour sessions are listed at AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month, against around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. On an hourly basis Bestimate quotes in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors up to AED 500. For a Diploma student taking two subjects at the specialist band, Bestimate's monthly estimates imply AED 2,000 to 4,000 a month. These are market rates read in October 2026, attributed to their publishers, not IB Gram prices.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to our villa in Al Twar?+

No. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Diploma and MYP tuition for an Al Twar family is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We make that trade for two reasons that both show up in the price: the published in-home premium pays for a car in Dubai traffic rather than for better teaching, and an in-home arrangement limits you to tutors willing to drive to Al Twar on a weekday evening.

Why is in-home tutoring in Dubai so much more expensive than online?+

Because a tutor driving to Al Twar from central Dubai at six in the evening commits well over an hour of travel to deliver one hour of teaching, and that time is paid for inside the hourly rate whether it is itemised or not. Published figures make the gap visible: Bestimate quotes in-home at AED 180 to 350 and independents up to AED 500, while qualified online subject tutors are published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. The difference is logistics rather than teaching quality.

Is a cheaper tutor ever the right choice for a Diploma student?+

For some jobs, yes. Budget and university-student online tutors advertise from AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik at AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya at AED 33 to 52. That band can genuinely handle recall drilling, homework supervision and keeping practice ticking over between specialist sessions. What it rarely buys is diagnosis, which is the ability to identify the actual fault in one attempt instead of three. Many families get the best result by mixing bands rather than buying entirely at one end.

Where do Al Twar families most often waste tuition money?+

Four places. Paying a specialist rate for homework supervision, when the problem is that work does not get done rather than that it cannot be done. Spreading a budget across five subjects at an intensity too low to change any of them. Buying emergency internal assessment help in the final fortnight, when the only remaining help would cross the academic-honesty line. And paying premium Diploma rates for MYP criterion work, where a mid-band tutor with real MYP experience is worth considerably more.

Should I pay for a whole term up front to get a discount?+

Be careful. The discount is real, and so is the risk it creates. The commonest failure in tutoring is a mismatch between tutor and student, and it usually becomes clear in weeks two to four. A family holding twelve pre-paid sessions tends to persist with a poor match rather than write off the balance, which costs far more than the discount saved. Our arrangement addresses the same risk differently: a free trial lesson before any payment, and a change of tutor at no cost if the match turns out wrong.

When in the two Diploma years is tutoring money best spent?+

Three phases dominate. The first term of DP1, because a weak Higher Level foundation sets permanently and a single weekly hour started in October costs less than the rescue it prevents. The internal assessment window from DP1 summer into DP2 autumn, where scheduled supervision beats panic buying. And a dated block of eight to twelve sessions before the examination series, aimed at paper technique. Families consistently underspend in the first phase, because nothing has visibly gone wrong yet, and overspend in the last.

Is the quoted tutoring rate per hour or per lesson?+

Ask, because it varies and the difference compounds. A fifty-minute lesson billed as an hour is a twenty per cent difference across a year. While you are asking, settle three more things in writing: what happens to a session you cancel with a day's notice, what happens when the tutor cancels, and whether materials and marking time between sessions are inside the rate or billed separately. Each of those is a reasonable thing to charge for and an unreasonable thing to discover in month three.

Does a tutoring quote in Dubai include VAT?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as settled fact here, because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's assertion. What any provider can tell you is simply whether the figure they quoted is the figure you will pay. If the answer is vague, treat that as information. The relevant question is never the tax rule in the abstract; it is whether your invoice will match your expectation.

Is it better to fund one subject properly or spread the budget wider?+

One or two, almost always, and this is the advice families resist hardest. A Diploma student with six subjects and a limited budget tends to end up with four or five weekly sessions at an intensity too low to produce the practice that actually drives improvement. The same spend concentrated on one or two subjects reliably produces more movement. Choose the subject the coordinator identifies rather than the one the student complains about, because those are frequently different and only one of them is costing the grade.

Can we pay a tutor to finish my son's internal assessment?+

No, and nobody honest will. IB academic-honesty rules require the work to be the student's own, and a malpractice finding falls on the student, potentially costing the whole Diploma rather than a few marks. Legitimate supervision is questioning the research question until it is answerable, challenging an uncontrolled variable, teaching conventions in general terms, and giving feedback on the student's own draft including flagging unsupported claims. We will not write, draft, edit to completion or supply any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay.

How does the Dubai school fee freeze affect what we should spend?+

It gives you an unusually clear year to plan. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. With the largest education line flat, this is the right moment to decide the second-largest line deliberately: name the monthly tutoring figure, then allocate it, rather than letting hours accumulate until a February statement delivers the total you never agreed to.

Is a small group cheaper than one-to-one for Diploma subjects?+

Per hour, yes, and whether it is better value depends entirely on how closely matched the group is. Two or three students at the same level, on the same paper, with the same specific weakness, can learn well together and share the cost. A group assembled because three families live nearby and all want maths help will move at the pace of its weakest member while being billed for everyone. For diagnosis of an individual error pattern, one-to-one is the only format that works.

What should I ask a tutor before paying anything in Al Twar?+

Six questions. Which subject and level do you teach, and how many students at that level do you currently have? What would you do in the first three sessions? Per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson? What are the cancellation terms, both ways? Do you hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and valid two years? And can we do a trial session before any payment? Hesitation on the permit question or the cancellation terms is the most informative answer you can get.

Do I get a refund if the tutoring does not improve my child's grade?+

We do not offer outcome-linked refunds, and we would be cautious about anyone who does. A grade depends on the student's own work, the school, the subject, the examiner and the paper, so a promise tied to it is either carefully hedged in terms you have not read or not meant seriously. What we offer instead is a free trial before any payment, a change of tutor at no cost if the match is wrong, and scoped blocks that end on their agreed date rather than rolling on.

Does the permit cost anything, and why should I ask about it?+

It costs nothing, which is exactly why the question is useful. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own private tutor licensing service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. A tutor who tells you it is expensive, optional or unnecessary has said something checkable and wrong. Individuals tutoring without one face fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

Name the monthly figure, then spend it where it works

If you are weighing an IB home tutor in Al Twar, start with two numbers rather than a shortlist: what the household can commit each month, and which subject the IB coordinator says is actually costing the grade. Those two decide almost everything else. The published market rates on this page are there so you can compare any quote you receive against a named source instead of a feeling. Then take the free trial lesson, which costs nothing and needs no card details, and watch what the tutor does in the thirty seconds after your child gets something wrong. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
