IB Tutor near me in Al Twar

Typing IB tutor near me in Al Twar usually means two things at once: find somebody close, and do not let this get expensive. The cheapest tutors in Dubai advertise from AED 33 to 65 an hour and the dearest from AED 650, and the difference between them is not what most parents assume. This page works upward from the bottom of the market, shows what each band actually buys, and explains why the nearest tutor is often the most expensive per useful hour. IB & IGCSE in Al Twar

What does the nearest IB tutor in Al Twar actually cost you?

Begin at the bottom of the market, because that is where most searches for a nearby tutor begin in practice. In Dubai the published budget end is genuinely cheap: Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, both for online tutoring, with the broader budget and university-student band running from roughly AED 45 to 150. For plenty of jobs that is a fair price for a fair service. Supervising homework so it gets finished, drilling recall, keeping a student ticking over between harder sessions: a careful tutor at AED 60 does those things perfectly well.

What the budget band almost never buys is diagnosis. Diagnosis is watching a student attempt a question and knowing, from the first wrong line, which of four possible faults is actually present. It takes a tutor who has seen that error a hundred times in that subject at that level. In a six-subject Diploma with interlocking content, a tutor without it spends three sessions discovering what a specialist identifies in twenty minutes, and the cheap hours stop being cheap.

Move up a band and you reach qualified online subject tutors at roughly AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Above that sit IB and IGCSE specialists at about AED 200 to 450 or more, where TutorChase publishes AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 survey agrees on the range. At the top, BartyED advertises a named tutor at AED 650. None of those numbers is ours; each belongs to the provider that published it, read in October 2026.

Now the part that this particular search makes relevant. A tutor who is physically near Al Twar is not drawn from the same pool as a tutor who teaches your child's subject. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors, and that premium pays for a car crossing the city at the evening peak. Worse, it narrows the shortlist to people willing to make that drive, which in a Higher Level subject can mean paying a premium rate for availability rather than expertise. That is the most expensive purchase in this market and it never looks like one on the receipt.

So the honest statement of what we do. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Diploma and MYP tuition for an Al Twar family is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We make that trade because it removes the travel premium and the pool restriction in a single move, which means the money buys teaching rather than driving. The trial lesson is free, so you can test the format before any of this matters.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The right price depends on which stage your child is at, because an hour is worth different amounts in different years. These are the four stages and what each justifies spending.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service. Assessed by written papers with an internal assessment component in most subjects. The only stage where the specialist band is routinely justified, because the knowledge needed is narrow and deep.

Al Twar families with a Diploma student should expect the specialist band to be the right purchase for one or two subjects and the budget band to be adequate for everything else. Paying the specialist rate across five subjects is how a household reaches AED 4,000 a month without deciding to.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each marked out of eight. The scarce skill here is criterion literacy rather than subject seniority, which makes the mid band better value than the premium band for most students.

This is where paying more buys least. A tutor priced for Diploma Higher Level work has often never marked an MYP task against a descriptor. A mid-band tutor who has is worth more to an MYP 4 student in Al Twar, and costs roughly half as much.

PYPAges 3-12 · Years 1-6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led primary education organised around transdisciplinary themes. Formal subject tutoring is seldom the right purchase; where help is needed it is usually reading fluency, number confidence or English as an additional language.

The budget band is entirely adequate here, and a parent who is quoted a specialist rate for primary support should ask what specifically justifies it. This is also the one stage where in-person supervision has real value, which is a service we run in India rather than in the UAE.

CoreAges 16-19

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS

The Extended Essay is a supervised 4,000-word research essay; Theory of Knowledge carries an exhibition and an essay. Both reward process coaching and almost none of the usual content teaching, which makes them unusually cheap to support properly.

Three or four well-timed sessions narrowing an Extended Essay question is among the best-value purchases in the entire Diploma, and families in Al Twar consistently buy it late and expensively instead. Supervision means questioning and feedback on the student's own work, never producing it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every subject repays the same hourly rate. These are the subjects Al Twar families ask for, with a frank note on where an expensive hour earns its fee.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The subject where the specialist band pays off earliest. Higher Level proof, calculus and the pace of DP1 mean a student who falls behind in term one rarely recovers without expert diagnosis of exactly where the sequence broke.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Often cheaper to fix than Analysis and Approaches, because the lost marks sit in interpretation, presentation and technology use rather than in deep technique. The mid band usually suffices.

Physics

HL and SL

Technique-dominated. Units, substitution order and missing diagrams account for most losses, and all three are fixable at the mid band. The specialist band earns its fee on Higher Level fields and the internal assessment.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics signs, equilibrium reasoning and organic mechanisms absorb the hours, and the Scientific Investigation carries about a fifth of the grade. Specialist diagnosis pays here because the faults look alike and are not.

Biology

HL and SL

The cheapest of the three sciences to support well, because the highest-return activity is marked data-question practice rather than re-teaching. A careful mid-band tutor does this properly.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline and the internal assessment commentaries carry the grade. A short block at the mid band on labelling and justifying shifts outperforms a term of content review at any price.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to unseen cases. Students describe tools instead of using them, which is a technique fault and does not need the premium band to correct.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 guided analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay and the individual oral. The individual oral is routinely under-prepared and responds to a small, cheap block of focused sessions.

Arabic B

HL, SL and ab initio

Receptive, productive and interactive components each need separate practice. Families often buy general Arabic hours when the gap is specifically the interactive assessment, which is a costlier mistake than it sounds.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Framing a workable knowledge question is the whole job. Three or four sessions at any competent band beats a term of general discussion, making this the lowest-cost high-value target in the Diploma.

Extended Essay

Core · 4,000 words

Supervision is coaching on the student's own research. The single most valuable hour is the early one that turns an unanswerable question into an answerable one; bought late, the same hour can legitimately do very little.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a developed solution, and over-ambitious scoping is the standard failure. One honest scoping session early saves a great many expensive ones later.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy at three different price points, with an honest note on what each one will and will not do. All are delivered over live video.

Budget-band support

Supervision, recall drilling and keeping practice moving between harder sessions. At the published budget band this is honest value for an honest job, and plenty of students need nothing more than this in three or four of their six subjects.

  • Homework completed rather than argued about
  • Recall and vocabulary drilled to automaticity
  • Suitable for MYP content gaps and Standard Level consolidation
  • Not the right purchase when the problem is unexplained

Specialist one-to-one in one subject

The band where diagnosis lives. A tutor who teaches that subject at that level weekly, identifying the actual fault on the first attempt and spending the rest of the hour repairing it. Bought for one subject rather than five, this is usually the cheapest effective plan.

  • One subject, chosen on the coordinator's advice rather than the student's complaint
  • Marked timed questions from the first fortnight
  • Written notes afterwards so revision has a source
  • Reviewed at the mock window rather than rolling on

A short core block

Three to six sessions on the Extended Essay question, the TOK essay structure or an internal assessment design. Small total cost, disproportionate effect, and legitimate only as questioning and feedback on the student's own work.

  • An unanswerable question narrowed until it is answerable
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never text supplied
  • Scheduled against the school's internal deadlines
  • The academic-honesty boundary stated at the first session

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Twar

01

Working up from the cheapest option in Al Twar

Most pricing pages in this market start at the top and work down, which flatters the expensive option. Start at the bottom instead. The cheapest published tutoring available to an Al Twar family is online and advertised from AED 33 to 52 an hour by Tutopiya and from AED 45 to 65 by EdFlik. A university student or a recent graduate at that rate can mark a problem set, keep a student company through homework, and drill recall until it is automatic. Those are real services and they are correctly priced.

The step that matters is the one to roughly AED 150 to 300, where qualified subject tutors sit and where Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. What you are buying with that step is not enthusiasm; it is pattern recognition. A tutor who has taught Diploma physics for several years knows that a student who gets the right number with the wrong unit has a different problem from one who gets the wrong number with the right method, and treats them differently. That distinction is the entire justification for the price difference.

Above that, the specialist band at roughly AED 200 to 450 or more buys depth in a narrow area: Higher Level content, internal assessment supervision in a specific subject, or examination technique on a particular paper. TutorChase publishes AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 survey places specialists at AED 200 to 450 or more. At the top, BartyED advertises AED 650 for a named tutor, and at that price the purchase is a specific individual rather than a category of service.

Read as a decision, the ladder is less about status than it looks. The right answer for most Al Twar households is a mixture: the specialist band for the one or two subjects where marks are genuinely being lost for reasons nobody has explained, and the budget band or nothing at all for the rest. The expensive mistake is uniformity in either direction. Every figure above is a market rate published by the provider named, read in October 2026; IB Gram publishes a free trial and a consultation rather than an hourly price list.

Group, centre or one-to-one: price per student against value per student

Group tutoring is the obvious way to reduce the hourly figure, and in the right circumstances it is good value rather than merely cheap. The circumstances are narrow: two or three students at the same level, on the same paper, with the same specific weakness, taught by somebody who has checked that this is true. Under those conditions the discussion between students adds something a one-to-one session cannot, and the cost per family falls substantially.

The conditions usually do not hold. The commonest group in a district like Al Twar is assembled because three families live nearby and all want maths help, which produces a session running at the pace of its least prepared member while every family pays. The cost per hour is lower and the cost per useful minute is often higher. Ask who else is in the group, at what level, and on which paper, before agreeing to anything.

Tuition centre classes sit lower again on price and lower again on diagnosis. A centre class is structured recall work delivered to a room, which is a legitimate product and is not a substitute for somebody watching your child's working. Note too that a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal entity from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific licence, and a provider without premises should not be describing itself in those terms.

One-to-one is the only format that reliably diagnoses, and the published bands above are what it costs. The sensible way to use the comparison is by job rather than by budget: a centre class for recall, a matched pair for shared paper practice, and one-to-one for the subject where nobody can explain why the marks are being lost. Buying all three for the same student at once is how a household spends more than it meant to and improves less than it hoped.

Which subjects actually repay an expensive hour

The question nobody asks at the point of purchase is which subject the money should go into. Students nominate the subject they dislike. Parents nominate the subject with the worst grade. Neither is reliably the subject where an hour buys the most marks, and the gap between them is where several thousand dirhams a year disappears in this district.

The test is whether the loss is explained. If a student is losing marks and the school can tell you exactly why, that is usually a technique or practice problem and the mid band fixes it. If a student is losing marks and nobody can say why, including the student, that is a diagnostic problem and it is the one place the specialist band is clearly worth the difference. Paying AED 300 an hour for a tutor to supervise work the student could do alone is the most common misallocation we see.

Subject matters too, because the subjects differ in how interlocked they are. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the most unforgiving: a sequence breaks in October and everything downstream fails until somebody finds the break. Chemistry and physics are intermediate, with distinct fault types that look alike. Biology and the humanities are more forgiving, because the content is more modular and a gap in one topic does not propagate.

The core components are the outlier, and they are consistently mispriced by families. Narrowing an Extended Essay question, framing a TOK knowledge question, and scoping an internal assessment are small jobs with large consequences, and they cost almost nothing when done early. Done late, the same jobs cannot legitimately be done at all, because the only remaining help would cross the academic-honesty line. We will not write, draft, complete or edit any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay.

04

Why the nearest tutor is often the dearest per useful hour

Proximity has a price and it is not the one on the invoice. Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 350 according to Bestimate, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500. Set against qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to 300, the difference is the cost of a car crossing Dubai at the evening peak, paid by the hour. For a family in Al Twar, where the drive from central Dubai takes forty to sixty minutes each way, that premium is being earned honestly and spent reluctantly.

The deeper cost is the shortlist. An in-home arrangement in this district can only use tutors prepared to drive to Al Twar on a weekday evening. For a Standard Level humanity that is an acceptable constraint. For Higher Level physics, Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, or an Extended Essay supervisor in a specific discipline, the list of nearby candidates can collapse to one person, and at that point you are not choosing a tutor; you are accepting one. A shortlist of one is the single most expensive condition in tutoring, and nothing on the receipt reveals it.

There is a third effect that is specific to villa districts. Because the drive is long, in-home tutors in Al Twar price for and plan around back-to-back appointments, which means the session has a hard stop and the last ten minutes, the part where a student finally asks the question they were embarrassed about, gets cut. Over a term that is a meaningful share of the value, lost for logistical reasons that have nothing to do with teaching.

This is why we deliver one-to-one over live video rather than sending anybody to a UAE address, and why the saving is not the main argument. The main argument is that the same money buys a tutor selected for the subject and the level instead of a tutor selected for being willing to drive. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India, and we would rather state it plainly than let a page imply otherwise.

05

Two budgets: one that assumes nothing goes wrong, one that does not

Families plan the first budget and live the second. The optimistic version has one subject tutored weekly through the year at the mid band, which on Bestimate's monthly estimates is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, and nothing else. It is a perfectly reasonable plan and it holds for about one household in three. The other two meet something unplanned: a second subject that slips in DP1 spring, an internal assessment that needs supervision, or a mock result that triggers an eight-week block.

The realistic version therefore reserves rather than allocates. Commit the monthly figure for one subject, and set aside a block budget for one dated intervention per Diploma year: roughly ten hours at the mid-to-specialist band, which at AED 200 to 450 an hour is somewhere between AED 2,000 and 4,500 as a one-off. Planning that reserve is the difference between a household that absorbs a bad mock and a household that panics and buys at the premium band in week one of the crisis.

At the top end, the honest numbers are worth stating. Two subjects at the specialist band through DP2, using Bestimate's specialist monthly estimate of AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more per subject, is AED 2,000 to 4,000 a month. Across a two-year Diploma, a household running that pattern throughout is spending a figure in the tens of thousands of dirhams. Very few families decide to do that; a good many end up doing it by adding one more subject at a time.

The table sets out three shapes. The point of it is not to recommend one but to make the totals visible before they accumulate, which is the single most useful thing a cost page can do. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total, so this is a year in which the tutoring line is the one genuinely under a household's control.

How to buy diagnosis rather than company

  • Watch the thirty seconds after an error, not the explanation
  • Ask what the first three sessions would contain, and listen for a plan
  • Ask what would make the tutor advise stopping
  • Separate will not from cannot before choosing a band
  • Ask the coordinator which subject is actually costing the grade

The practical test fits into a trial lesson, and it has nothing to do with how well the tutor explains things. Almost every tutor at every band can explain something clearly; that is the easy half of the job. What separates the bands is what happens in the thirty seconds after your child gets something wrong. A tutor who re-explains has given you company. A tutor who asks a question designed to find out which of three possible misunderstandings is present has given you diagnosis, and that is what the price difference is for.

Ask two questions before booking as well. First: what would you do in the first three sessions? A specialist answers with a diagnostic plan, something like a diagnostic set, then the two topics the set exposes, then a timed question to check it transferred. A weaker answer is a list of topics, which is a syllabus rather than a plan. Second: what would make you tell us to stop? A tutor who can answer that honestly is one who will tell you when the money has stopped working.

Separate two problems before you spend anything, because they have different and differently priced solutions. Will not and cannot look identical on a report card. A student who is not doing the work needs structure, supervision and possibly a conversation that has nothing to do with tutoring, and the budget band is the correct purchase. A student who is working hard and still losing marks needs diagnosis, and the specialist band is the correct purchase. Buying the specialist solution for the structural problem is the commonest overspend in this market.

Finally, use the school. Your child's IB coordinator will usually tell you frankly which subject is costing the grade and why, and that single conversation reliably changes which tutor you should buy. Students nominate the subject they find unpleasant; coordinators nominate the subject that is losing marks. It costs an email and it routinely saves a term of well-intentioned spending in the wrong place.

07

Free checks that lower the bill before it arrives

Three things cost nothing and improve the purchase more than comparing providers does. The first is the permit question, which doubles as an honesty test because the permit itself is free. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and is applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own private tutor licensing service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone who tells you the permit is costly or optional has told you something checkable and wrong, and individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so ignore any specific figure.

The second is the regulator. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai and publishes inspection outcomes on its own site; Abu Dhabi's ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in that emirate, and the Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in Sharjah and also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Read a school's rating from the regulator rather than from a tutoring page, this one included.

The third is the accreditation check, which is free and decisive. Nobody selling you private tutoring in Dubai is accredited, approved or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson to do it. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific licence for training institutes with physical premises. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and occupies no UAE premises; we name regulators to explain what they do. If a provider claims otherwise, ask for the permit number before you ask for a price.

And one note on claims that cost you money indirectly. Treat any published rating, student count or success percentage without a stated sample size, date and method as decoration. Competitor pages in this market show different ratings in different places on the same page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews alongside a headline student count in the thousands. A provider that cannot show its arithmetic on something that simple is not a provider whose diagnostic claims should be taken on trust.

Where we tutor

Where 'near me' reaches from Al Twar

A nearby tutor in Al Twar means somebody willing to drive here on a weekday evening. These are the districts that pool is drawn from, and what each drive actually costs in time.

Al Twar 1, 2 and 3

Villa grids behind Al Qusais. A tutor who genuinely lives in Al Twar is the cheapest nearby option and also the smallest pool, usually with no Higher Level subject coverage at all.

Al Qusais

The nearest district with real tutoring supply. Ten to fifteen minutes away, which is why Al Twar families occasionally find in-home quotes below the published upper bands.

Al Nahda

North-east on the Sharjah boundary, dense and tutor-rich, but mostly in Indian and British curriculum teaching rather than Diploma subjects.

Mirdif

South-east, villa housing, fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on the hour. Tutors serving Mirdif can add Al Twar without crossing the city, which keeps quotes reasonable.

Muhaisnah

North-east along the Sharjah road. Close in distance and slow at peak, so the time cost in a quoted rate is higher than the map suggests.

Al Garhoud

West past the airport, with Diploma provision and therefore more Diploma-literate tutors. Twenty-five to forty minutes at peak, and the premium reflects it.

Deira and Bur Dubai

The old city, with the deepest tutoring market in this half of Dubai and the longest drive. A 6pm appointment in Al Twar means leaving before five.

Downtown and Business Bay

Where much of the Diploma specialist supply sits. Forty-five to sixty minutes to Al Twar at peak, which is the full travel premium and the clearest argument for working on screen.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Twar

Al Twar, Al Qusais and Al Nahda

The local cluster, mixing IB continuum provision with a large British and Indian curriculum market. Dubai private school fees were confirmed flat for the 2026-27 academic year, so the tutoring line is the one still worth deciding deliberately. Inspection ratings are published on KHDA's own site.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Separate will not from cannot

Before any money moves, decide which problem you have. Work that does not get done needs structure and the budget band. Work that is done properly and still loses marks needs diagnosis and the specialist band. Buying the wrong one is the commonest overspend in this district.

  2. 02

Ask the coordinator which subject to fund

One email. Coordinators name the subject losing marks; students name the subject they dislike. Those are frequently different, and only one of them repays an expensive hour. This single step reliably changes which tutor you should be looking for.

We match on subject and level, not distance

A tutor who teaches that subject at that level, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, with no drive inside the rate. Where no UAE-based specialist is free for a niche requirement we say so before booking and state what we are offering instead.

  4. 04

Free trial, and watch the right thing

A full session at no cost and no card details. Judge it on what the tutor does in the thirty seconds after your child gets something wrong, not on how clearly they explain. That is the behaviour the price difference is actually buying.

  5. 05

Scope, review, and stop when it is right to

Blocks have end dates. Weekly arrangements get reviewed at the mock window against what has moved. We will tell you when the honest answer is fewer hours, a different subject or a cheaper band, because an unreviewed arrangement is how budgets double quietly.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The cheap band is recommended where it fits

We will say when supervision at the budget band is the right purchase rather than selling a specialist hour for a job that does not need one. A page that recommends its most expensive option for every situation is not giving advice.

Figures come with their publishers

Tutopiya, EdFlik, Unitors, TutorChase, BartyED and Bestimate's 2026 survey are named beside their own numbers, read in October 2026. IB Gram publishes a free trial lesson and a consultation rather than an invented price list.

Distance is removed from the price

In-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutors, and the gap is travel. Teaching over live video removes that cost instead of repackaging it. IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE; that is an India-only service.

A shortlist of more than one

The nearby pool in Al Twar is small and shrinks to nothing for niche Higher Level needs. Matching on subject rather than postcode is what keeps the choice real, which is where the actual value sits.

Diagnosis is defined, not implied

We describe exactly what a specialist hour buys: identifying the actual fault on the first attempt rather than the third. That is testable in a trial lesson, which is why the trial exists and why it costs nothing.

No regulator claims, no UAE premises

IB Gram holds no accreditation, approval or licence from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and occupies no premises in the UAE. Regulators appear here only to explain what they govern.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Twar: your questions answered

What is the cheapest way to get IB tutoring in Al Twar?+

The published budget end of the Dubai market is online and starts at roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya advertising from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, read in October 2026. At that band you are buying supervision, recall drilling and homework completion, which for several subjects in a six-subject Diploma is genuinely all that is needed. What it does not buy is diagnosis of an error pattern nobody has been able to explain, and that is the one job worth paying more for.

Does a tutor who lives near Al Twar work out cheaper?+

Rarely, once the real costs are counted. Published in-home one-to-one rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 350 according to Bestimate, and up to AED 500 with independent home tutors, against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online subject tutors. The premium pays for forty to sixty minutes of driving each way at the evening peak. The larger hidden cost is that the nearby pool is small, so for a niche Higher Level need you may be paying a premium for availability rather than for expertise.

Will IB Gram send somebody to our home in Al Twar?+

No. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Diploma and MYP tuition for an Al Twar family is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason is the one this whole page is about: removing the drive removes both the travel premium and the restriction of the tutor pool, so the same money buys a tutor selected for the subject rather than for willingness to cross the city.

What am I actually paying extra for at AED 300 an hour?+

Pattern recognition. A tutor who teaches that subject at that level weekly knows that a student producing the right number with the wrong unit has a different fault from one producing the wrong number with the right method, and treats them differently. That is diagnosis, and it means the actual problem is found on the first attempt rather than the third. In an interlocked subject such as Higher Level mathematics, that difference is worth considerably more than the hourly gap suggests.

Is group tutoring better value than one-to-one?+

Only when the group is genuinely matched: two or three students at the same level, on the same paper, with the same specific weakness. Then the cost per family falls and the discussion adds something. The common failure is a group assembled because three families live nearby and all want maths help, which runs at the pace of its least prepared member while everyone pays. Ask who else is in the group, at what level and on which paper before agreeing to anything.

Which subject should we spend the tutoring budget on?+

Ask the IB coordinator rather than the student. Students nominate the subject they find unpleasant; coordinators nominate the subject that is losing marks, and those are frequently different. Then apply one test: if the school can explain why marks are being lost, it is a technique problem and the mid band fixes it. If nobody can explain it, including your child, it is a diagnostic problem and that is where the specialist band earns its fee.

How much should a whole Diploma year cost in tutoring?+

It depends on the shape you choose, and seeing the totals first is the point. One subject weekly at the mid band is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month on Bestimate's monthly estimates, or AED 7,200 to 14,400 a year. Adding a reserved one-off block of about ten hours at AED 200 to 450 takes that to roughly AED 9,200 to 18,900. Two subjects at the specialist band through DP2 is AED 2,000 to 4,000 a month, which annualises into the tens of thousands.

Why do families end up spending more than they planned?+

Because tutoring accumulates one subject at a time. A household commits to one subject in September, adds a second after a disappointing DP1 mock, adds internal assessment supervision in the summer, and buys an emergency block in the spring. No single decision was unreasonable and the total was never agreed. The fix is to name a monthly figure and a one-off reserve at the start of the year, then allocate within them, which is also the only way to notice when the money has stopped working.

Is a premium tutor at AED 650 an hour ever worth it?+

For a narrow, specific, high-stakes job occasionally, and as a default never. BartyED advertises AED 650 for a named tutor, and at that price you are purchasing one individual's attention rather than a category of service. If the requirement is genuinely singular, such as one paper in one Higher Level subject where a specific person has deep expertise, a small number of hours can be defensible. As a standing arrangement across a programme it is a poor use of a household budget.

Can a cheap tutor supervise an internal assessment?+

They can supervise the process honestly at any band, and no band may do more than that. Legitimate support means questioning the research question until it is answerable, challenging an uncontrolled variable, teaching conventions in general terms, and giving feedback on the student's own draft. We will not write, draft, complete or edit any part of an internal assessment, Extended Essay or TOK essay at any price. IB academic-honesty rules make that a malpractice question and the consequence falls on the student, not the tutor.

When is the cheapest moment to fix an Extended Essay problem?+

At the question stage, months before the deadline, when three or four sessions at any competent band can turn an unanswerable question into an answerable one. That is the lowest-cost, highest-value purchase in the entire Diploma and families routinely skip it. Bought late, the same intervention cannot legitimately be made at all, because the only remaining help would involve producing the student's work. Timing, not rate, is what determines the value of core support.

Should I pay a deposit or a term in advance for a lower rate?+

Be cautious. The discount is real and so is the risk attached to it: tutor and student mismatches usually become clear in weeks two to four, and a family holding a dozen pre-paid sessions tends to persist with a poor match rather than write off the balance. That costs far more than the discount saved. Our arrangement handles the same risk from the other side: a free trial lesson before any payment, and a change of tutor at no cost if the match turns out to be wrong.

How do I tell a diagnostic tutor from a well-spoken one?+

Watch what happens immediately after your child gets something wrong. A tutor who re-explains the topic has given you company. A tutor who asks a question designed to establish which of several possible misunderstandings is present has given you diagnosis. Then ask what the first three sessions would contain: a diagnostic set, the topics it exposes, and a timed check is a plan, while a list of topics is just the syllabus read back to you.

Does the private tutor permit cost the tutor anything?+

No, and that is why the question is a useful honesty test. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, applied for through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's own private tutor licensing service, which lists a two-working-day completion time. A tutor who tells you it is expensive or unnecessary has said something checkable and wrong. Those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

Should I trust a tutoring site's star rating when comparing prices?+

Only if it shows its arithmetic. Treat any rating, student count or success percentage published without a sample size, a date and a method as decoration rather than evidence. Pages in this market display different ratings in different places on the same page, and one shows five stars from twenty reviews beside a headline student count in the thousands. A provider that cannot be accurate about something that simple should not be trusted on the harder claim that its tutors diagnose well.

What is the smallest sensible purchase to start with?+

A free trial lesson followed by three or four sessions in one subject, with a review at the end. That is enough to establish whether the tutor diagnoses or merely explains, whether the slot works in a real Al Twar week, and whether anything has moved. It is also small enough that getting it wrong costs very little. Starting with five subjects and a term paid up front maximises both the spend and the chance of discovering a mismatch too late to act on.

Decide the band before you choose the tutor

If you are searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Twar, two decisions matter more than the shortlist. First, whether the problem is work not being done or work being done and still losing marks, because those need different bands and the cheaper one is often correct. Second, which subject the coordinator says is actually costing the grade, which is frequently not the subject your child nominates. The published market rates on this page let you test any quote against a named source. Then take the free trial, watch the thirty seconds after an error, and decide. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
