IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science Online Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP Sports Exercise and Health Science online tutor in Dubai is priced by scarcity, not by difficulty. Far fewer Dubai schools run SEHS than run Biology, so the specialist pool is thin and the published market bands for IB subject tutors sit at the upper end of them. This page shows those bands in AED with the source named, lists what moves the number in this emirate, and sets out what an hour buys at each stage of the two-year course. Lessons are delivered one to one, online, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

What a SEHS hour costs in Dubai, and why it is not priced like a maths hour

Sports, Exercise and Health Science is a Group 4 science, and in Dubai it is taught in far fewer classrooms than Biology or Chemistry. That one fact sets the price. A parent ringing round for a maths tutor is shopping in a crowded market. A parent looking for someone who has actually marked a SEHS scientific investigation is shopping in a thin one. Published market bands for IB subject tutors in Dubai run from roughly AED 150 an hour at the qualified-generalist end to AED 450 and above for genuine subject specialists, and one Dubai provider advertises AED 650 for examiner-level review.

Those AED per hour figures belong to other providers, were published on their own sites, and were collected in October 2026. Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200 an hour online. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above. BartyED advertises AED 650. EdFlik and Tutopiya sit far lower, from AED 45 to 65 and from AED 33 to 52 respectively, which in practice buys general study supervision rather than criterion-level SEHS feedback. IB Gram publishes no rate card on this page: the trial lesson is free with no card required, and a quote follows the level, the component and the deadline.

Four things move the number for this subject specifically. Higher Level carries extension content that sits inside both papers, so an HL student needs a tutor who has taught that material rather than one who has read it. A DP2 student in the final two terms is competing for the same specialist hours as every other DP2 student in the emirate. A scientific investigation already collected on the wrong protocol costs more to rescue than one planned properly in DP1. And a mid-year move from SL to HL, which Dubai schools do allow in some cases, creates a catch-up block that nobody budgeted for.

What the money buys is narrower and more useful than general science help. The investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria, and the marks are lost in predictable places: a research question about 'fitness' with no measurable variable, means reported with no measure of spread, a conclusion that restates the data instead of interpreting it, and an evaluation whose only improvement is 'more participants'. On the papers, the losses are command-term losses. A question that says outline does not want the same answer as one that says explain, and data-based questions reward reading a graph rather than remembering a fact.

Delivery is the one thing on this page that is not negotiable. Tuition for Dubai families runs online, one to one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run in-person lessons in Dubai and does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; those are a service we provide only in India. For a subject with this few specialists, that is the advantage rather than the compromise: your child works with someone who has marked SEHS investigations, instead of whoever teaches science within a twenty-minute drive of your community.

At a glance

  • SEHS is a Group 4 subject, so it sits in the science block of the Diploma, not alongside PE
  • The scientific investigation is one independent piece of around 3,000 words, marked out of 24
  • Paper 1 carries a multiple-choice section and a data-based section sat in one sitting
  • Higher Level extension content is assessed inside the same papers, not in a separate one
  • Many medical and biomedical courses specify Biology and Chemistry, not SEHS
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

SEHS only exists at Diploma level, but the route into it starts earlier. These are the stages a Dubai student passes through, and what each one leaves them holding when the Diploma begins.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme: Sports, Exercise and Health Science

A Group 4 experimental science built on exercise physiology and nutrition, biomechanics, and sport psychology and motor learning. Students sit two written papers and complete one independent scientific investigation of around 3,000 words, marked out of 24 against four criteria. Higher Level adds extension content assessed inside the same papers rather than in a separate one, which is why an HL student who was taught by an SL-only teacher often arrives with a visible gap.

In Dubai, SEHS is offered by a minority of the emirate's IB World Schools, so cohorts are small and a single teacher often carries both levels. That has a direct effect on tutoring: the school may have no second specialist to ask, and an online specialist becomes the only route to a second opinion on an investigation draft.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme: Sciences and Physical and Health Education

MYP Sciences builds the criterion-based habits that the Diploma investigation then tests under pressure: formulating a question, designing a method, processing and presenting data, and evaluating what went wrong. MYP Physical and Health Education supplies the vocabulary of training, performance and health that SEHS later makes quantitative. Students who did well in MYP Sciences criterion B and C usually find the investigation manageable; those who coasted on practical write-ups do not.

Dubai MYP cohorts are large and the step to DP1 is where SEHS candidates feel it, because MYP rarely demands uncertainty handling or statistical treatment. A short block in the summer between MYP 5 and DP1 is the cheapest SEHS support a Dubai family will ever buy, and almost nobody buys it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physical Education and Biology as feeders

Most Dubai students arriving in a DP SEHS classroom come from a British-track Year 11 rather than from MYP. IGCSE Physical Education covers anatomy, training principles and components of fitness in descriptive terms; IGCSE Biology covers the systems that SEHS then quantifies. Neither prepares a student for uncertainty, repeatability or a research question with named variables, which is the gap a first tutoring block usually closes.

British-curriculum schools dominate Dubai enrolment, and KHDA's own market figures put the UK curriculum at 37% of private-school students. That means the typical Dubai SEHS candidate is an IGCSE student making a one-year jump into criterion-based science, with no MYP grounding to fall back on.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme: sport, health and wellbeing pathways

A small number of UAE schools run the IB Career-related Programme, where a student takes DP courses alongside a career-related study. SEHS appears in sport, fitness and health pathways, and CP students sit the same SEHS papers and complete the same investigation as DP candidates. What differs is the surrounding workload and the reflective project, which competes for the same autumn weeks as the investigation.

CP is rare in Dubai compared with the full Diploma, so a CP student looking for SEHS help is in an even thinner market than a DP one. Scheduling matters more than price here, because the reflective project and the investigation tend to collide in the same term.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

SEHS is rarely tutored alone. These are the subjects Dubai SEHS students most often pair it with, and what each one actually assesses, so you can decide where a limited budget does the most work.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

HL and SL

Two written papers plus one scientific investigation worth 20% of the grade. Marks are lost on command terms, on data-based questions answered from memory, and on investigations whose research question cannot be answered by the data collected. HL extension content sits inside both papers.

Biology

HL and SL

The subject most SEHS students sit alongside, and the one most medical and biomedical courses actually specify. Shares the same investigation model and the same four criteria, so one tutor can often carry both. Losses cluster in genetics, physiology detail and extended-response structure.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Frequently required with Biology for medicine and dentistry. Carries the heaviest calculation load in Group 4 and the same 20% investigation. A SEHS student taking Chemistry usually needs separate support, because the skill overlap is smaller than families expect.

Psychology

HL and SL

Overlaps SEHS on motivation, arousal and skill acquisition, and shares a research-methods vocabulary. Assessed through papers plus an experimental study, so a student already handling a SEHS investigation has transferable habits around hypotheses, variables and ethics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content here is what makes a SEHS investigation defensible: correlation, regression, significance and spread. Students who are weak in AI statistics usually produce weak data-analysis marks in SEHS, so a short AI block often raises two grades at once.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The route most Dubai schools recommend for engineering and economics destinations. Heavier on algebraic technique and proof than on statistics, so an AA student needs the statistical treatment for a SEHS investigation taught separately rather than assumed.

Physics

HL and SL

Shares the biomechanics ground with SEHS: force, moments, projectile motion and energy. A student taking both can have the mechanics taught once properly and applied twice, which is one of the few genuine efficiencies available in a Group 4 timetable.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The extended responses in SEHS Paper 2 are marked on argument, not on prose style, but students who cannot structure a paragraph lose marks in both subjects for the same reason. Support here tends to show up in science grades within a term.

Business Management

HL and SL

A common pairing for students heading towards sports management rather than sports science. Shares the command-term discipline that SEHS Paper 2 rewards, and the internally assessed work falls in the same autumn window, so the calendar needs planning jointly.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

A SEHS-based Extended Essay is popular and risky: the best ones narrow to one measurable question, the worst read as a literature review of training methods. A tutor can question the scope and the sources and give feedback on the student's own drafts, nothing further.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Dubai SEHS families actually buy support, each with a different price consequence. The hourly band is the same; the number of hours is what differs, and that is where the real cost sits.

Weekly hour across DP1 and DP2

One fixed slot a week, held on the same weekday so it survives the training calendar. Content follows the school's scheme of work rather than a parallel syllabus, so the session is spent on what was taught that week and on what the last assessment showed. This is the cheapest route per mark, because it front-loads the investigation and never pays the crisis premium.

  • 28 to 32 hours across a Diploma year at published specialist bands
  • Written feedback after each session naming the criterion addressed
  • Investigation planned in DP1, not rescued in DP2
  • Slot held on one weekday to protect it from fixtures

Scientific investigation block

A short block of six to eight hours concentrated on the independent investigation: narrowing the research question, naming variables, checking the method is repeatable, choosing a statistical treatment the data can support, and reading the draft against each of the four criteria. The student collects every data point and writes every word; the tutor questions, marks and explains.

  • Research question narrowed to something measurable before any data is collected
  • Ethics and school approval checked before participants are involved
  • Data analysis reviewed against the published criterion descriptors
  • Evaluation pushed past 'more participants' into specific, costed improvements

Final-term paper clinic

Ten to twelve hours in the run-up to the May session, spent entirely on papers under timed conditions. Paper 1 is drilled for pace across the multiple-choice and data-based sections; Paper 2 is drilled for command-term discipline and extended-response structure. This is the most expensive way to buy marks per hour and the most common way Dubai families buy them.

  • Timed Paper 1 sections marked and returned with a pace analysis
  • Extended responses rebuilt around the command term, not the topic
  • Data-based questions practised on unfamiliar studies, not revision notes
  • Sessions moved to post-Iftar session timing during Ramadan where needed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a SEHS hour in Dubai buys, priced by what you are actually purchasing

A SEHS hour is not a unit of teaching; it is a unit of diagnosis, drafting or drilling, and those three things cost different amounts because they take different numbers of hours. The table below prices the work the way a Dubai family actually buys it: a single diagnostic hour, a weekly slot across a year, a block around the investigation, a paper clinic in the final term. The AED per hour bands are other providers' published figures, collected in October 2026, and the source is named in the last column.

Read the indicative totals rather than the hourly rate. A weekly hour across DP1 at the middle of the specialist band costs more in total than a six-hour investigation block at the top of it, and it buys considerably more. Families who compare only the hourly figure routinely choose the expensive option, because the cheap-looking rate is attached to the stage where the most hours are needed. Nobody ranking for this query publishes totals at all, which is why the comparison is hard to make anywhere else.

One honest caveat about the monthly package row. Advertised Dubai packages at AED 799 a month for eight online sessions work out at roughly AED 100 a session, which is well below the specialist band. That price buys supervision from a generalist, and for a Group 4 subject with a 24-mark investigation that is not the same product. It can be the right purchase for a DP1 student who needs structure rather than subject expertise, and the wrong one for a DP2 student eight weeks from an upload deadline.

What moves the number in this emirate, driver by driver

Dubai has specific cost drivers that a global rate table misses. Specialist scarcity is the first: SEHS is offered in a minority of the emirate's IB World Schools, so the pool of people who have marked an investigation against the current criteria is small, and small pools price upwards. Deadline proximity is the second, and it is sharper here than in a larger market, because every DP2 cohort in the emirate hits its internal upload deadlines inside the same few weeks.

The third driver is level. Higher Level extension content is assessed inside the same two papers rather than in a separate one, so an HL student cannot simply add revision; they need the extension material taught. The fourth is geography, and it works in your favour. An in-home visit in Remraam or Dubailand Residence Complex prices travel into the hour in a way a session in Al Barsha South does not, which is why the published in-home band of AED 180 to 500 overstates what families in outer communities actually pay for an hour of teaching and understates what they pay for an hour of a tutor's time.

Ramadan and the school calendar move the number in a less obvious way. Compressed school days and post-Iftar session timing shrink the usable evening window, so specialist hours in that period are contested, and a family that books late pays the late price. The practical response is to fix the weekly slot before the term starts and to treat the investigation block as a DP1 purchase rather than a DP2 rescue.

The assessment, component by component, and where the marks go missing

SEHS is assessed through two written papers and one independent scientific investigation. Paper 1 carries a multiple-choice section and a data-based section sat in one sitting. Paper 2 carries short-answer questions and extended responses. The investigation is worth 20% of the grade at both levels, which means a fifth of the result is decided by a document the student controls completely and which almost no Dubai family budgets support for until it is nearly due.

The table below sets out the components with the weightings commonly published for this subject. Confirm them against the current subject guide with your school's IB coordinator before planning around a number: guides are revised, and a tutor who quotes a weighting from an older guide is a tutor who will prioritise the wrong component. The right question to ask at a trial lesson is not 'do you know SEHS' but 'which criterion was my child's last investigation draft weakest on, and why'.

The losses are patterned rather than random. On Paper 1A, students guess on items that test a definition rather than a concept, which is recoverable in a fortnight. On Paper 1B, they describe a trend when the command term asked them to explain it, which is a vocabulary problem dressed as a knowledge problem. On Paper 2, extended responses list facts without an argument. In the investigation, the research question is too broad to answer with the data collected, and every downstream criterion then suffers for a decision made in week one.

The scientific investigation: four criteria, twenty-four marks, one document

A fifth of a SEHS grade sits in one document, and it is the component where tutoring produces the clearest movement, because the criteria are published and the failures are repetitive. The investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A student who understands what each descriptor rewards writes a different document from one who is writing a lab report from memory.

Research design is where most SEHS investigations are decided. A question about whether 'fitness' improves with training has no measurable variable and cannot score well however good the writing is. A question about the effect of a named warm-up protocol on counter-movement jump height in a stated population has named variables, a repeatable method and a realistic data set. Dubai adds a practical constraint here: school facility access and participant availability are limited, and a question that depends on equipment the school does not have fails before it starts.

The other three criteria follow from that first decision. Data analysis rewards processing that suits the data, with spread and uncertainty handled rather than mentioned. The conclusion must answer the stated question and compare the result against published findings, with a citation. Evaluation is marked on specific weaknesses, their effect on the conclusion, and improvements a student could actually implement. The most common single loss in the whole component is an evaluation whose only suggestion is a larger sample.

SEHS or Biology? The question that decides the subject choice

This is the most consequential question on the page and the one no competitor answers. SEHS is a Group 4 experimental science and satisfies the Diploma's science requirement. That does not mean every destination accepts it in place of Biology or Chemistry, and a Dubai family choosing subjects in Year 11 is usually making a decision about university admission without realising it.

The rule of thumb is that courses which name a science usually name Biology or Chemistry, and courses which name a field accept SEHS. Medicine, dentistry and most biomedical sciences specify Chemistry and often Biology. Physiotherapy, sports therapy, sports science and sports management are far more likely to accept or welcome SEHS. The only safe method is to read the entry requirements on the page for the specific course at the specific university, for the year of entry, and to do that before DP1 subject selection rather than in DP2.

For UAE destinations there is a second layer. Ministry of Education equivalency for a secondary certificate is a separate process from university admission, administered by the ministry and the emirate's attestation authority, not by a school or a tutor. The British-track requirements are published and specific; no verified IB points threshold is published in the sources used for this page, so verify the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority directly. Tutoring is not required for equivalency, and nobody should tell you otherwise.

The timing of the decision matters as much as the decision. Dubai schools confirm Diploma subject blocks in the spring of Year 11, and once the timetable closes a swap from SEHS to Biology may simply be unavailable because the two sit in the same column. A family that reads three course pages in February has more options than one that reads them in DP2. If the destination is genuinely undecided, the safer combination is a named science plus SEHS rather than SEHS alone, and that is a conversation to have with the school's careers lead before the option form goes in.

Where SEHS candidates in Dubai actually lose marks

  • Command-term discipline: the verb in the question decides the shape of the answer
  • Unfamiliar data: practise on studies the student has never seen before
  • Extended responses: a position, evidence and a limitation, not a brain dump
  • Biomechanics: units and moments practised numerically, not read about
  • Energy systems: the common confusion is timescale, not terminology

Command terms cost more marks in this subject than content gaps do. Outline, describe, explain, discuss and evaluate are not synonyms, and each has a mark allocation shaped to it. A student who writes four sentences of accurate description against a question that said explain has written something correct and unmarkable. This is the single cheapest fix available in SEHS, and it is usually worth more than another pass through the theme notes.

Data-based questions are the second pattern. Paper 1B presents data from studies the student has never seen, and the marks go to reading what is in front of them: axes, units, the actual shape of the relationship, the limits of what the data can support. Students trained on revision summaries rather than on unfamiliar data arrive expecting recall and find interpretation. The remedy is practice on studies nobody has pre-digested, which is a thing a tutor can supply and a revision guide cannot.

The third pattern is structural and it shows up in Paper 2 extended responses. Students write everything they know about the topic in the order they learned it. Examiners reward an answer built around the question, with a position, evidence and a limitation. The fourth pattern is biomechanics calculation, where students who are fine on the physiology lose marks on moments, forces and units, usually because the mechanics was taught once and never practised numerically.

A fifth pattern is worth naming because it is specific to this subject. Students who train seriously know a great deal about their own sport, and that knowledge arrives in answers as anecdote rather than as evidence. A question about energy systems wants timescales and substrates, not an account of what a coach says about interval work. The same instinct damages the investigation, where personal conviction about a training method substitutes for a measurable variable. Diagnosing that habit takes one marked script, and correcting it takes a term of being asked, every session, what the question actually requires.

07

Academic honesty when the data comes from human participants

  • School approval for human-participant work comes before data collection, not after
  • Consent is documented, and vulnerable participants bring additional restrictions
  • A tutor marks and explains; every sentence of the document is the student's own
  • Published findings are cited, not reproduced
  • A provider selling finished internal assessments puts the student at risk, not itself

SEHS puts a boundary question in front of students that most Diploma subjects do not, because the data comes from people. Participants have to consent, the protocol has to be approved by the school before anything is measured, and vulnerable participants bring further restrictions. A tutor's role here is to ask whether approval exists before a single data point is collected, because an investigation built on unapproved human data is a problem no amount of good analysis repairs.

The second boundary is authorship, and it is the one worth stating plainly. A tutor teaches, questions, marks against published criteria and explains why a paragraph does not score. A tutor does not supply a research question, hand over a data set, or put sentences into a student's document. Every word and every measurement in an internal assessment must be the student's own. Any provider offering a finished investigation is offering an academic-honesty breach, and the consequence lands on the student, not on the provider.

The third boundary is sources. Comparing a result against published findings is required by the conclusion criterion, and that comparison has to be cited. Reproducing figures or passages from a syllabus document, a textbook or a past paper into an investigation is a copyright and an honesty problem at once. Reference the source, cite the official URL, and link out. That is also the habit that makes the evaluation criterion easier, because a student who has read the published method can see what their own method lacked.

08

Fitting a SEHS hour into a Dubai training week

SEHS students are disproportionately athletes, and that makes timetabling the deciding factor in whether tutoring works. A session at 16:00 competes with training. A session at 18:00 competes with the drive home from training. In Dubai Sports City the two happen in the same place, so an evening slot after 19:30 Gulf Standard Time usually holds; in Nad Al Sheba or Remraam the commute is the constraint and the later slot is the only one that survives a term.

The practical answer is a fixed weekday rather than a flexible one. Families who agree to 'find a slot each week' lose roughly a third of their sessions to fixtures, and a lost specialist hour near a deadline is not easily replaced in a thin market. Two 45-minute sessions a week often work better than one 90-minute session during an investigation block, because the student has something to do between them and the tutor has something to mark.

The academic calendar adds two fixed pressures. Ramadan compresses school days and moves family routines, and the usable window narrows to post-Iftar session timing for most households; agreeing that shift in advance is better than renegotiating weekly. The second pressure is the autumn of DP2, when internally assessed work across six subjects falls inside a few weeks. A SEHS investigation competing with an Extended Essay and two other internal assessments is the normal situation, not the unlucky one, and planning the block in DP1 is what keeps it out of that pile-up.

How delivery works, and what IB Gram does not do in the UAE

  • Live video, one to one, Gulf Standard Time, with the annotated file kept by the student
  • Written feedback after each session, naming the criterion addressed
  • No in-person lessons and no UAE home visits; home visiting is an India-only service
  • Permit position explained with the official MoHRE route, not glossed over
  • Honest availability: a stated 'not this fortnight' rather than a generalist in the slot

Every lesson for a Dubai family runs online, one to one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. The tutor and the student share a screen, work on the same document or paper, and the student keeps the annotated file afterwards. Written feedback follows each session, naming the criterion or the command term that was addressed, so a parent can see what was worked on without sitting in the room.

IB Gram does not run in-person lessons in Dubai and does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE. Home visiting is a service we offer only in India. That is stated on every UAE page on this site, and for a subject like SEHS it is the stronger offer rather than the weaker one: the question is whether your child can work with someone who has marked investigations against the current criteria, and a twenty-minute driving radius in Dubai is a poor filter for that.

Two further things are worth stating plainly. Anyone providing private tuition inside the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which is granted free of charge for two years through the MoHRE smart app and e-services; the official service page is 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing'. And if no SEHS specialist is genuinely free in the window you need, we say so and offer the nearest honest alternative rather than putting a generalist in the slot and calling it a match.

Where we tutor

Where Dubai SEHS families are, and what the week looks like there

SEHS students are disproportionately committed athletes, which makes scheduling, not geography, the live problem. These are the Dubai communities where SEHS enquiries concentrate, and what the training week does to a session slot in each.

Dubai Sports City

Academy training and school fixtures are in the same postcode, so a student can finish a session at the pitch and be online twenty minutes later. Evening slots after 19:30 GST are the ones that survive the training calendar here.

Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities with long school runs towards Meydan and Al Quoz. Sessions that start before 17:00 GST tend to be missed in term time; a single later weekly slot holds better than two early ones.

The Springs and The Meadows

Feeds a cluster of British-track and IB schools towards Al Barsha and Emirates Hills. SEHS candidates here usually arrive from IGCSE rather than MYP, so the first block is almost always investigation design.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Dense apartment communities with large Indian and Arab cohorts and a strong maths and science culture. SEHS is often the second science rather than the first, and families here ask about the Biology pairing more than anywhere else.

Town Square and Reem

Younger families, longer commutes to Dubai's IB schools, and a lot of DP1 students. Early DP1 support is cheaper and more effective here than crisis help in DP2, which is the pattern the rate table on this page is meant to make visible.

Remraam and Dubailand Residence Complex

Far enough out that an in-home tutor's travel fee is a real part of the price, which is one reason online delivery costs less here in practice than the published in-home band suggests.

Damac Hills and Mudon

Villa communities with a strong school-sport culture and several academy swimmers and footballers. Training clashes are the main cause of cancelled sessions, so slots are held on a fixed weekday rather than moved weekly.

Al Barsha South and Arjan

Walking distance to several IB and British-track schools, so school-run time is short and 16:30 GST slots actually hold. Useful for students who need two shorter sessions a week during an investigation block.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Dubai IB World Schools where SEHS candidates are concentrated

Not every IB World School in Dubai offers SEHS, and the ones that do often run a single mixed SL and HL class. Students we support attend schools across this group; the list is ecosystem context for a parent working out whether their school has a second specialist to ask.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Emirates International School Meadows
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Dubai schools running the Diploma alongside a British track

These schools run IGCSE to 16 and then offer the Diploma, A Level or both. A SEHS candidate here has usually come through IGCSE Physical Education or Biology rather than MYP Sciences, which changes what the first tutoring block has to cover.

  • GEMS Wellington International School
  • GEMS Modern Academy
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Dubai schools with strong sport programmes feeding SEHS interest

Academy and performance pathways push students towards SEHS as a subject choice. The academic consequence is a crowded week, and the practical consequence is that session timing decides whether tutoring works at all.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Dubai English Speaking College
  • Repton School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • Safa Community School
  • Sunmarke School

Schools are named here as context for Dubai's IB ecosystem only; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and curriculum details should be confirmed with the school.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the component and the deadline

Three facts decide everything that follows: Standard or Higher Level, which component is in trouble, and the date it is due. A DP1 student planning an investigation and a DP2 student eight weeks from the May session need different tutors, different session lengths and different numbers of hours.

  2. 02

We check who has actually marked a SEHS investigation

Availability is checked before a match is offered, and the filter is narrow: experience teaching the current themes, and experience marking the investigation against the four published criteria. If nobody who meets that is free in your window, we say so rather than widening the filter quietly.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on real work

The trial runs on your child's own marked paper or current draft, not on a sample exercise, and no card is required to book it. At the end you should know which criterion is weakest and roughly how many hours the fix needs. If the answer is 'fewer than you expected', that is the answer you get.

  4. 04

A quote in AED against a number of hours

Pricing follows the plan rather than preceding it: the level, the component, the session length and the number of hours. The published market bands on this page are the context you can check it against, and they are other providers' figures, not ours.

  5. 05

    Weekly sessions with written feedback

Sessions run in Gulf Standard Time on a fixed weekday, with post-Iftar session timing agreed in advance during Ramadan. Written feedback after each session names what was addressed and what the student should do before the next one, so progress is visible between reports.

  6. 06

The block ends when the component is done

An investigation block ends at submission; a paper clinic ends at the May session. There is no rolling commitment, and a family who wants to stop after one lesson stops after one lesson. Most Dubai SEHS families come back for the next component rather than staying on a monthly plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates in AED, with the source named

Three of the six ranking pages for Dubai tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote USD. This page publishes AED bands, attributes each one to the provider that published it, and gives the month they were collected, so you can check the figure rather than trust it.

Criterion-level feedback, not general science help

The investigation is marked out of 24 across four published criteria, and feedback that does not name one of them is not feedback a student can act on. Every session note says which criterion or which command term was addressed and what changed as a result.

A stated boundary on assessed work

A tutor teaches, questions, marks and explains. No part of an internal assessment is supplied, drafted or edited into shape by us, and the research question is the student's. The boundary is on the page because the alternative is a risk carried by the student.

Scarcity handled honestly

SEHS runs in a minority of Dubai IB schools and the specialist pool is correspondingly thin. When nobody suitable is free in the fortnight you need, you get told that, with the nearest alternative and the rate that would apply, rather than a generalist presented as a specialist.

Scheduling built around the Dubai week

Fixed weekday slots that survive fixtures, split sessions during an investigation block, post-Iftar session timing agreed before Ramadan rather than during it, and Gulf Standard Time as the default. Most lost tutoring money in Dubai is lost to cancelled sessions, not to hourly rates.

Subject-choice advice that points at the course page

Whether SEHS satisfies a university's science requirement is decided by the entry requirements for that course in that year, not by a tutor's opinion. We will tell you where to look and what to look for, and we will not imply that tutoring is required for admission or for equivalency.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How much does an IB DP Sports, Exercise and Health Science tutor cost in Dubai?+

Published market bands for IB subject tutors in Dubai, collected in October 2026, run from about AED 150 an hour for a qualified online generalist to AED 450 and above for subject specialists, with one Dubai provider advertising AED 650 for examiner-level review. Unitors lists IB tuition from AED 200 online and TutorChase quotes AED 270. SEHS sits at the upper end of those bands because the subject runs in a minority of Dubai IB schools, so few tutors have marked the investigation. IB Gram publishes no rate card here; the trial lesson is free with no card required, and the quote follows level, component and hours.

Why is a SEHS specialist harder to find in Dubai than a Biology tutor?+

Because supply follows classrooms. Dubai has 227 private schools, and Biology is taught in almost all of the IB ones; SEHS is offered by a minority of them, often as a single mixed Standard and Higher Level class with one teacher. That produces a small local pool of people who have taught the current themes and marked the investigation against the four published criteria. Online delivery is the direct answer to that scarcity: your search is no longer limited to the people who happen to live within driving distance of your community, which is a poor filter for subject expertise in any case.

What exactly is the SEHS scientific investigation, and how is it marked?+

It is one independent investigation of around 3,000 words, worth 20% of the grade at both levels, marked out of 24 across four criteria of six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Research design decides the rest, because a question with no measurable variable cannot score well however carefully it is written. Data analysis rewards handling spread and uncertainty rather than mentioning them. The conclusion must answer the stated question and compare the result against published findings, with a citation. Evaluation is marked on specific weaknesses and realistic improvements. Confirm the current criteria and limits with your school's IB coordinator.

Can a tutor help design an investigation that uses human participants?+

A tutor can question whether the research question is measurable, whether the method is repeatable, and whether the school has approved the protocol before any data is collected. That approval is not optional, and it comes first: an investigation built on unapproved human data is a problem good analysis cannot repair. What a tutor must not do is supply the research question, hand over a data set, or put sentences into the document. Every measurement and every word belongs to the student. Consent needs documenting, and investigations involving younger or vulnerable participants carry further restrictions that the school, not a tutor, decides.

Is Sports, Exercise and Health Science an easier Group 4 science than Biology?+

It is a different science rather than a lighter one. The content volume is usually smaller than Biology at Higher Level, but SEHS demands biomechanics calculation, statistical treatment of human data, and command-term discipline in extended responses, and those defeat students who chose it expecting coursework about sport. The investigation carries the same 20% and the same 24 marks as the other sciences. Where it genuinely is easier is engagement: students who train seriously find the material intuitive. Where it is harder is the papers, because familiarity with the topic tempts students into writing what they know rather than answering the question.

Does my child need Biology as well as SEHS for a medical degree?+

For medicine and dentistry, assume Chemistry is required and Biology is usually expected, and treat SEHS as a third science rather than a substitute. The decision is made by the entry requirements published for that specific course, at that specific university, for the year of entry, and those pages differ more than families expect. Check them before DP1 subject selection rather than in DP2, when the timetable has closed. Physiotherapy, sports therapy, sports science and sports management are much more likely to accept SEHS. No tutor should tell you a destination accepts it without pointing you at the page that says so.

What is the real difference between SEHS at Standard and Higher Level?+

Higher Level carries extension content across the themes, and it is assessed inside the same two papers rather than in a separate third paper. That matters practically: an HL student cannot cover the gap by revising harder, because the extension material has to be taught. The investigation is the same component with the same 20% weighting and the same 24 marks at both levels. Students who move from Standard to Higher Level mid-year in a Dubai school almost always need a catch-up block of eight to ten hours, which is a cost nobody budgets for at subject-selection time.

How do the data-based questions in SEHS Paper 1 actually work?+

Paper 1 has a multiple-choice section and a data-based section sat in one sitting. The data-based questions present results from studies the student has never seen, and the marks go to reading what is on the page: axes, units, the shape of the relationship, and the limits of what the data can support. Students who revised from summary notes arrive expecting recall and meet interpretation instead. The fix is practice on unfamiliar studies rather than on pre-digested revision material, and the most common single loss is describing a trend when the command term asked for an explanation.

How many hours of SEHS support does a Dubai DP2 student usually need?+

It depends entirely on which component is in trouble. A scientific investigation block typically runs six to eight hours, spread over the weeks the student is collecting and writing. A Paper 2 extended-response clinic runs four to six. A full final-term consolidation before the May session runs ten to twelve. A weekly slot across a whole Diploma year is 28 to 32 hours, costs more in total than any single block, and buys considerably more, because it front-loads the investigation and avoids the crisis premium that Dubai's bunched DP2 deadlines create.

Do you send a tutor to our home in Dubai for SEHS lessons?+

No. Every lesson for a Dubai family is delivered online, one to one, over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we provide only in India. For this subject that is the stronger option rather than a compromise, because the pool of tutors who have marked a SEHS investigation is small and a driving radius makes it smaller. Published in-home bands of AED 180 to 500 an hour price travel into the lesson, which is a cost that buys presence rather than subject expertise.

Which Dubai schools offer SEHS at Higher Level?+

SEHS is offered by a minority of Dubai's IB World Schools, and whether Higher Level runs in a given year usually depends on how many students opt in. Ask your school's IB coordinator two questions directly: is SEHS running at Higher Level for this cohort, and is the class mixed with Standard Level. A mixed class is common in small cohorts and is the single best predictor that an HL student will need outside support for the extension content. Schools named elsewhere on this page are ecosystem context only; confirm current provision with the school.

Can one tutor cover SEHS and Biology for the same Diploma student?+

Often, yes, and it is one of the few genuine efficiencies in a Group 4 timetable. Both subjects use the same investigation model and the same four criteria, so the research-design conversation transfers directly, and the physiology overlap is real. Chemistry is a different matter and usually needs a separate specialist, because the calculation load and the content have less in common with SEHS than families expect. If a tutor claims to cover SEHS, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level, ask which of them they have marked internal assessments in.

Does SEHS count towards UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Equivalency is a ministry process, separate from university admission, and it is administered by the Ministry of Education and the emirate's attestation authority rather than by a school or a tutor. The British-track requirements are published and specific: five accredited subjects at no less than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels. For the IB, no verified points threshold appears in the sources used for this page, so verify the current position on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority. Tutoring is not required for equivalency.

How do sessions fit around school fixtures and academy training in Dubai?+

By fixing the weekday rather than negotiating weekly. Families who agree to find a slot each week lose roughly a third of their sessions to fixtures, and a specialist hour lost near a deadline is hard to replace in a thin market. In Dubai Sports City an evening slot after 19:30 Gulf Standard Time usually survives training; in outer communities such as Remraam or Nad Al Sheba the commute decides it. During an investigation block, two 45-minute sessions a week often work better than one long one, because there is something to do and something to mark between them.

Does Ramadan change when a SEHS session can realistically run in Dubai?+

Yes, and agreeing it before the month starts is better than renegotiating during it. School days compress, family routines shift, and the usable evening window narrows for every household at once, which means specialist hours in that period are contested. Families who set post-Iftar session timing in advance keep their slot; families who try to rearrange week by week tend to lose sessions at exactly the point in DP2 when internally assessed work across six subjects is landing. The same applies to the autumn pile-up, when the investigation competes with an Extended Essay and other internal assessments.

What happens if no SEHS specialist is free when we need one?+

You get told, with the nearest honest alternative and the rate that would apply, rather than a generalist placed in the slot and described as a specialist. For a subject this thinly staffed in Dubai that conversation happens more often in the weeks before internal upload deadlines than at any other time, which is the practical argument for booking an investigation block in DP1 and a final-term clinic before the winter break. No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which does not mean they do not have one.

Start with the number, then decide the hours

If you take one thing from this page, take the difference between an hourly rate and a total. A weekly slot across DP1 at the middle of the published Dubai band costs more over a year than a six-hour investigation block at the top of it, and it prevents the problem the block exists to fix. Tell us the level, the component and the deadline; we will check who has genuinely marked a SEHS investigation, offer a free trial lesson on your child's own work, and quote in AED against a number of hours. Lessons run online, one to one, in Gulf Standard Time.
